City of Salisbury Emergency Operations Center
State of Emergency
On this date at 2:00 pm, pursuant to Section 2.08 of the Salisbury City Code, Mayor James Ireton has declared a state of emergency in the City. “Any natural disaster …resulting in the death or injury of persons or the destruction of property to such an extent that extraordinary measures must be taken to protect the health, safety, and welfare” is the section of code cited. Section 2.08.040 states that the mayor “in the interest to public safety and welfare can make the following orders:
Order the temporary closing of any and all streets, alleys and other public ways in the city
Issue such other orders as are imminently necessary for the protection of life and property.”
The staff of the Salisbury Emergency Operations Center has been activated and a further update on this situation will be released during a press conference at the Salisbury Police Department at 3:00 pm.
The National Weather Service has advised that the City of Salisbury is under blizzard conditions from 9:00 am until 12 midnight, with an expected snow accumulation of approximately 7 to 9 additional inches and winds gusts in excess of 45 miles per hour.
The state of emergency will be in effect at 2:00 pm, and due to the “white out” blizzard conditions, all snow removal vehicles have been pulled from removal activities.
The Wicomico County Department of Emergency Management has been notified of this action and the staff of the Salisbury Emergency Operations Center will be requesting assistance from Wicomico County as needed.
The Salisbury Emergency Operations Center is requesting that all members of the public refrain from driving in the city due to the current conditions. After 6:00 pm on this date, pursuant to the provisions cited in section 2.08.040 of the City code, vehicles operating on the roadway may be stopped and enforcement action may be taken.

Wow! pulling all 1 of their snow removal vehicles off the road will really make a difference. We may not be able to get to the mall, now.

Does this mean that those with personal plow vehicles are not allowed on the roads as well? Please only respond if you know for sure.
Wimps ! You people on the shore need to suck it up and toughen up. The first bit of snow causes a panic and you shut down everything. Where was your emergency center for the past two storms? Grandstanding is what your doing now. Trying to justify your jobs and put on this front that your looking out for us. Leave us alone and plow the streets, we'll be fine.
How long is this in effect?
Any subject except emergency personel who are found on the roadway after 6 pm can be stopped and be ticketed ($500 fine).
People are so harsh. If the Mayor did nothing you'd be bi*ching cause he did nothing...he tries to take some control of a once in a lifetime series of storms and what do you do - bi*ch! I think the City workers are doing a great job. They have been out around the clock for almost 2 straight weeks. You complainers have been home sitting on your duffs or out sledding with your family. These guys have been working and are extremely worn out! Give them a break.

I have also heard that Princess Anne has the State of Emergency in affect as well. I hope my husband makes it home safe from work and doesn't get a ticket, due to he works until 7 at ECI.(if he is able to come home at all)
2:23, I'm not sure how the snowplower guys have become worn out. Maybe they're plowing places that I don't see. Those of us who live in the Camden area--but I suspect anyone who lives within the Salisbury city limits--can easily see that there has been virtually no plowing. The picture of Md. Ave. that ran in today's paper can represent all of the side streets. Yes, we know that conditions are bad, but we just don't see any results of plowing, if indeed plowing is really happening. If it is and the guys have been out hours and are really worn out, then I apologize.
@12:46 I was told this morning that the OFFICIAL position of the mall management company that runs the mall is that they are no longer going to "close". It was up to the stores if they wanted to close, I hope everyone one of the people that manage the mall get a ticket today maybe then they will change their OFFICIAL position!! It is a mall not the hospital. You really DON'T NEED anything that in the mall!!

Guess What Daily Times is doing to their delivery drivers?! Sam Oradat is the supervisor for drivers and he is telling his drivers to go out anyway and they can go out and just be sure that they don't "get caught". I am dead serious Joe!
Sam has dropped off papers in our front yard the past few days because my husband will not go out and risk his life to deliver newspapers. Sam Oradat and Gannett Co are looking to kill people just to get the newspapers out to people--REGARDLESS of the law!!
What should they tell this man??? He is psycho! He is driving people crazy with texts and phone calls. HIS BOSS even has been to our house and done the same too but I dont' know his name. Please let the community know what is going on with psycho Daily Times!
