Man Kills Sisters On 5-Year-Old's Birthday

By GLEN JOHNSON, AP

MILTON, Mass. (March 29) -- A man on a rampage fatally stabbed his 17-year-old sister, decapitated his 5-year-old sister in front of a police officer and then headed toward his 9-year-old sister before officers shot him amid what their chief described as "a killing field."

There is no clear motive yet for the events that unfolded about 5 p.m. Saturday in this tony Boston suburb that is also home to Gov. Deval Patrick. But there is no doubt at the carnage wrought by 23-year-old Kerby Revelus against his three sisters in the two-family home they shared with their parents and grandmother.

North Carolina Nursing Home Shooting Kills 6, Injures 3

CARTHAGE, N.C. — A lone gunman burst into a North Carolina nursing home Sunday morning and started "shooting everything," barging into the rooms of terrified patients, sparing some from his rampage without explanation while killing seven residents and a nurse caring for them.

Authorities said Robert Stewart also wounded three others, including the Carthage police officer who confronted him in a hallway of Pinelake Health and Rehab and stopped the brutal attack.

"He acted in nothing short of a heroic way today, and but for his actions, we certainly could have had a worse tragedy," said Moore County District Attorney Maureen Krueger. "We had an officer, a well-trained officer, who performed his job the way he was supposed to and prevented this from getting even worse than it is now."

GM CEO Wagoner To Step Down At White House Request

I know the government can attach all the strings it want's to it's bail out money but when The President of the United States can demand that the CEO of an American company step down it WREAKS of socialism.

DETROIT — General Motors Corp. Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner will step down immediately at the request of the White House, administration officials said Sunday. The news comes as President Obama prepares to unveil additional restructuring efforts designed to save the domestic auto industry.

The officials asked not to be identified because details of the restructuring plan have not yet been made public. On Monday, Obama is to announce plans to restructure GM and Chrysler LLC in exchange for additional government loans. The companies have been living on $17.4 billion in government aid and have requested $21.6 billion more.

Wagoner's departure indicates that more management changes may be part of the deal. Wagoner, 56, has repeatedly said he felt it was better for the company if he led it through the crisis, but he has faced sharp criticism on Capitol Hill for what many lawmakers regard as years of missteps, mistakes and arrogance by the Big Three automakers.

Tributes Honor Four Murdered Oakland Police Officers

OAKLAND, Calif. - The city virtually halted Friday for the funeral of four slain police officers, with a populace still in shock jamming a large sports arena, spilling into an overflow stadium and filling the streets to pay their last respects. The funerals for Mark Dunakin, John Hege, Ervin Romans and Daniel Sakai, who authorities say were gunned down March 21 by a parolee, shut down major freeways into and out of Oakland for much of the day as their long processions made their way to and from the Oracle Arena. - 03/27/09

The last time four officers were shot and killed, was 16 years ago when four federal agents were killed, raiding that compound in Waco, TX.

Just A Reminder

Hebron Commissioners Pass Waller Landing Project

Hebron Commissioners have passed the mega-project of Waller Landing. An appeal seems imminent.

Waller has even drawn the attention of Environment Maryland and is cited as an example in its Report. See Press Release below.

At noon on Wednesday, April 1, Environment Maryland has scheduled a press conference on the plaza in front of the County Office Building on Division St in Salisbury.

This statewide organization has researched the issue of compliance of various counties with their own comprehensive plans -- and is issuing a strong report on sprawl in the rural zones, citing several examples where development is proposed, out of synch with the comprehensive plan. Four of the 12 cases they cite are in Wicomico County -- namely Whiton, Waller Landing, Meadows at Barren Creek, and Essex Ridge.

The timing of this report is designed to support the Smart and Sustainable Growth Act of 2009 (SB 280, known otherwise as the Terrapin Run Bill) proposed by Governor O'Malley to strengthen the planning process in the counties, and to counter the recent Court of Appeals decision which weakens the link between zoning and smart planning

Another City Crime

Joe

Just a few minutes ago an ambulance was dispatched to Back Street Grill for a subject that was assaulted in the area and walked to back street grill for help. This on top of the college student that was assaulted yesterday shows that crime is out of control. We need to keep this information in the public light as I am sure the Police department will not release this information during the campaign.

A Letter To The Editor On Crime

HEY CHIEF WEBSTER: WE’RE NOT AS DUMB AS YOU THINK!

In the report on crime data for Salisbury that aired on WBOC-TV Friday evening, Chief Webster demonstrated that he is either ignorant or is willing to treat Salisbury residents as ignorant in order to do the bidding of Barrie Tilghman and Gary Comegys. The report focused how the crime rate in Salisbury compares to that in other cities.

A local resident, Mark McIver, has researched the per capita data for cities of Salisbury’s size throughout the United States. "Out of 746 cities across the nation in our population category, Salisbury is showing up here at number 9 out of 746 cities across the country," McIver says.

But Webster says per capita reports mislead the public because the crime number gets multiplied to show a city of 100,000 people.

That comment by the Chiefy is absolute nonsense – the per capita data indicates the occurrence of crime in a city relative to its population, not the actual number of crimes, so that the frequency, or rate of occurrence can be compared between cities. This is a common statistical practice. Here are some readily available (by using “google”) discussions of the “per capita” concept:

To find out if one city really is more dangerous than another, you need to determine a per capita murder rate. That is, the number of murders for each person in town. To find that rate, simply divide the number of murders by the total population of the city. To keep from using a tiny little decimal, statisticians usually multiply the result by 100,000 and give the result as the number of murders per 100,000 people.

The original phrase came from Latin, and meant "per head." It is used in statistics to measure the average amount of something per person. Crime rates are at times measured on a per capita basis.

In essence, to calculate the per capita data, each city’s actual data is adjusted to express it on the common population size – 100,000 – to allow instant comparison. The adjustment maintains the relative frequency of occurrence for each city. And this ain’t rocket science, Chiefy.

The real reason that Webster and his bosses – Barrie and Bubba – don’t want city residents to compare Salisbury’s crime rate to that in other cities is because it shows very clearly that the crime rate in Salisbury is one of the highest in the nation. In fact, in 2007, the rate of violent crime in Salisbury was the highest of Maryland’s major cities, including Baltimore.

Here's A Thought For Our New President

A Patriotic retirement:

There're about 40 million people over 50 in the work force; pay them $1 million apiece severance with stipulations:

1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

Some people make things so complicated when they don't have to be.

Barrie = Gary Questionable Intent?

Good morning Joe,

First of all, please do not post my name as I fear it may jeopardize my relationships at work.

I received a notice in my mailbox on Friday, not post marked by the way.

It was a three page stapled, unfolded notice,

The first pages is a follows.

Attention Residents of Ellington & Schumaker Manor

Mayor Barrie P. Tilghman invites all residents of both Ellington and Schumaker Manor to a meeting to discuss any issues or concerns in the neighborhoods.

Date: Thursday, April 2, 2009

Time: 5:00 PM

Place: Fire Station #1, Meeting Room
1100 Beaglin Park Drive

If you have any questions regarding this meeting, please contact the Mayor’s office at 410-548-3100

The next two pages appear to be from the Student Government Association of Salisbury University

It concerns an event called Salisbury University’s Big Event

It is scheduled for April 18, 2000

It says……

Created in 1982, The Big Event started as a one day community service project at Texas A&M University. It was a way for the students to say “Thanks you” to the surrounding towns for their support to the university.

This year the Salisbury University Student Government Association is sponsoring its 5TH annual Big Event in the Salisbury community. This year’s Big Event will be a one day community service project for the citizens residing around the Salisbury University campus.” ….. and so on

Here is my take on the first page. I suspect this is a campaign ploy for Gary Comegys in disguise. I would be interested in what others think as well.

As far as the other two pages, I suspect that it is legitimate. What I don’t understand is that these two events were stapled together. Why are that related? Any ideas?

Another concern is that it was in my mailbox without postage. If my memory serves me correctly, it is illegal to put anything in a post box without postage. Can someone out there verify this for me?

SUMBITCH

A filthy rich North Carolina man decided that he wanted to throw a party and invited all of his buddies and neighbors. He also invited Leroy, the only redneck in the neighborhood.

He held the party around the pool in the backyard of his mansion. Leroy was having a good time drinking, dancing, eating shrimp, oysters and BBQ and flirting with all the women.

At the height of the party, the host said, "I have a 10ft man-eating gator in my pool and I'll give a million dollars to anyone who has the nerve to jump in.

The words were barely out of his mouth when there was a loud splash and everyone turned around and saw Leroy in the pool!

Leroy was fighting the gator and kicking its butt! Leroy was jabbing the gator in the eyes with his thumbs, throwing punches, head butts and choke holds, biting the gator on the tail and flipping the gator through the air like some kind of Judo Instructor.

The water was churning and splashing everywhere. Both Leroy and the gator were screaming and raising hell. Finally Leroy strangled the gator and let it float to the top like a dime store goldfish. Leroy then slowly climbed out of the pool. Everybody was just staring at him in disbelief.

Finally the host says, "Well, Leroy, I reckon I owe you a million dollars."

"No, that's okay. I don't want it," said Leroy.

The rich man said, "Man, I have to give you something. You won the bet. How about half a million bucks then?"

"No thanks. I don't want it," answered Leroy.

The host said, "Come on, I insist on giving you something. That was amazing. How about a new Porsche and a Rolex and some stock options?"

Again Leroy said no.

Confused, the rich man asked, "Well, Leroy, then what do you want?"

Leroy said, "I want the name of the sumbitch who pushed me in the pool."
