Mobile Meat-Market on the road again.....

Not too long ago some Salisbury News readers reported men going door-to-door selling meat from the back of a pickup truck in the Fruitland-Salisbury area and apparently they have moved southward.
I was at work in Crisfield today and a clean cut white man came in claiming he represented a company called Midwestern and he needed to sell off the rest of his steaks before he "headed back in".I was suspicious because he was not in a uniform of any kind and rather than a reefer truck he was driving an older model pickup with an ancient household chest-type freezer in the bed of the pickup.I watched as he left and he was driving a gold-colored older model (circa 1975-1979) full-size Dodge pickup with Delaware tags.He may be legit, but it all seemed suspect to me,so I wanted to share this info so that the public is aware. Also, the truck he was in bore no vendor or trader's license number,or company name.He was offering steaks at ridiculously low prices and I am a firm believer in the old adage,Caveat Emptor(buyer beware).

Who Would You Really Vote For?

As election day draws near, many people are going to vote for either a Republican or Democrat. These are the two major parties in our country. Although there are several other parties, most of them don't get much if any support.

If we didn't have any political parties and strictly voted for the person that we thought was the best to run our country, who would that be? Who would you vote for President if you had your choice? Why?

SHELBY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!!

"Hey Joe,

Wanted to let you know that a family saw Shelby on your site and came and adopted her! Yay! Hopefully the first of many! Thank you so much for your help!

Linda"

Remember Folks, there are quite a bit of animals looking for a wonderful home here in Wicomico County. Thank You so much for adopting this animal and viewing Salisbury News.

Salisbury Zoo Delivers Another Baby

"Joe, why no coverage of the new Zoo baby? It is a very important birth, the 47th Titi monkey in the US. That makes two very important births at the Zoo in just a couple months. Sounds like the Zoo has it going on. Check it out at your favorite newspaper, they outscooped you."

First of all, I was not contacted by the Zoo in reference to this mater but it certainly is exciting. There have been other births at the Salisbury Zoo just as exciting over the years.

Sadly, however, most of them didn't survive. Take the Sloths for instance. Many of their babies would fall off their mother and fall to their death onto a concrete floor. I was told by other Zoo Directors in the past that once they learn of such issues, they do everything they can to correct it. There's still a concrete floor at the Salisbury Zoo and one would think after so many deaths that they would relocate the Sloths to another area until the baby is out of such danger.

I'm excited for the Zoo and the new leadership with Joel Hamilton. He's not a passive kind of guy like the last Zoo Director and hopefully things are much better now for these animals.

Now if you think I was out scooped, perhaps you're right. However, the Daily Times has to have something to keep their readers buying their paper because people certainly aren't buying their Stock!

In closing, have you read about all the animal deaths in the past several years at the Salisbury Zoo in the Daily Times? NO! I guess it's only important when an animal is born and not important when they die by the hundreds. Just remember this while you're trying to rag on me, anonymous. My Wife raised, (by hand) most of the animals at the Salisbury Zoo from birth or close to it. Yes, it's always exciting when animals are born and they're a lot of work to keep alive. When you spend so much time caring for them, the pain of losing any one of them is almost as hurtful as losing one of your own children. The Salisbury Zoo needs better caretakers for these animals and under Joel's leadership I'm confident things have gotten much better. However, it was impossible to live with under Jim Rapp's leadership.

Blog Issues

I know some, (if not all) of you are having some problems with Salisbury News this morning. The problem should be resolved very soon, something to do with code. Nevertheless, I'm sorry for the inconvenience and we'll be back as good as new in just a little while.

Explanation of Politics

Whether Democrat or Republican, you should get a kick out of this!

A little boy goes to his dad and asks, 'What is Politics?'

Dad says, 'Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I am the head of the family ,so call me The President. Your mother is the administrator of the money, so we call her the Government. We are here to take care of your needs, so we will call you the People. The nanny, we will consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we will call him the Future. Now think about that and see if it makes sense.'

So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper.

So the little boy goes to his parents' room and finds his mother asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed.

The next morning, the little boy says to his father, 'Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now.'

The father says, 'Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about.'

The little boy replies, 'The President is screwing the Working Class while the Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored and the Future is in deep shit.'

Remembering Eddie Plank

13 Years ago today we lost Trooper First Class Eddie Plank. Below is his page from the officers down memorial site. We will never forget...

"Joe,

I found this link very interesting and it shows the attempts on U.S presidents in history. This directly correlates with your post titled "What If Obama Is Killed? What If McCain Dies In Office? What If Obama Loses?"

It is more likely than people realize that someone will attempt to assassinate the next president whether it be McCain or Obama. I guess the real question is how would the U.S citizens respond in comparison to an attempt on either candidate."

More Un-Reported Crime In Salisbury

"Hey Joe,

Yet another crime in Salisbury has not been reported. Last night, a female was shot in the back (spine area) on Bailey Lane on the "West Side". I guess the Mare and her flunkies don't think that anyone has police scanners, when they say that Salisbury has a "low crime rate"....yeah right. Just keep on lying to us, Barry Tilghman...you're days in office are numbered! What really disturbes me, is that the T.V. and radio stations are under her power too. I'm so glad that you aren't!"

If Only ALL Of Our Younger Americans Were So Smart

"Joe,

I am a regular reader of the blog, sometimes I disagree greatly, most of the time we are coming from the same angle. I am constantly reading about how bad things are and I have to wonder, what if it is not just poor policy that got us into this but poor personal and laziness . I am 25 years old, I own my own home on my income while my fiancé’ finishes up school. I make pretty good money, but am on 100% commission so I have to earn every penny that I make. I love that, I love knowing that if the money isn’t there than it’s my fault and I need to work harder. During the summer my fiancé works full time and I work another part time job to ensure our economic stability. Point being that we enjoy the personal responsibility. I don’t look to anyone else to give me hand outs or “bail me out”. I know that there are a lot of people that are struggling out there that are working very hard and that have circumstances that significantly affect their ability to provide for themselves, but I also feel that there are even more people that can and don’t. Especially people my age to their 40’s. They want to be coddled, and point to everyone else to solve their problems for them instead of sucking it up and doing it themselves. A lot of politicians reinforce this ideal logy by making victims out of everyone. How come no one can say, well Mr. smith maybe you have to get a second job, or do a job that you don’t want to do, or in some cases even move to an area where there are jobs. This idea that life should be easy and everyone should have a job they love making tons of money, live in a beautiful house is ridiculous. Shouldn’t someone say, okay our economy sucks and the only way to fix it is not by taxing production, but increasing production so that more income is generated. Maybe you work 50 hours a week instead of 40, maybe you do whatever, but you are more productive because its needed. Isn’t that real freedom, isn’t there something to take out of having to buckle down and really challenge yourself. Now I am a young guy and could be way off on this, but do know this to be true. Anything that I had to bust my ass to get, anything that required me to work hard for I appreciate more than if it was just given to me through no effort of my own. If the American people do not start providing for themselves, eventually the burden on those that are called on to provide for them will be so great that the incentive for those providers will be lost, and without incentive are economy is nothing.

Question of the Day, Fri 10/17

October is National Family Sex Education Month.

I know this is a taboo subject, but sometimes parents need other parents' input. My children are 7 and 9. I remember being 9 in the 4th grade at Pittsville Elementary School, and having the teachers split the class - boys and girls. I don't know what the boys watched, but I remember my movie with the girls, talking about menstruation, boobs, hair and all that woman stuff.

My daughter is now 9 and in the 4th grade. There has been no mention of such talk or movie explaining these things. I'm not saying I don't talk to my 9-year-old about this stuff, but sometimes it's helpful for a child to talk about it with their peers and another adult body that they look up to.
