ANN WISEMAN NAMED JUNIOR COTILLION DIRECTOR

Charlotte, NC – The National League of Junior Cotillions has announced the appointment of Ann Wiseman as the new director for its Eastern Shore Chapter in Wicomico County, MD.

The National League of Junior Cotillions program, which features character education, etiquette, and social dancing training for 6th through 8th grade students, includes five classes and one ball over a six-month period. The program gives students instruction in the social courtesies and ballroom dancing needed for better relationships with their family and friends. Students actively learn life skills through a creative method employing role-playing, skits and games.

The social behavior component ranges from rules of conversation to formal and informal table manners. In addition to the usual courtesies connected with dancing, etiquette instruction is also provided with regards to the following: acknowledgment of gifts, behavior at cultural and civic events, correspondence, interaction in groups, introductions, paying and receiving compliments, receiving lines, sportsmanship and sports etiquette, instructional dinners, telephone and cell phone courtesy, and many other areas of social conduct.

The National League of Junior Cotillions setting will encourage children to be comfortable together, to make new friends and to enjoy themselves. Communication skills learned by young ladies and gentlemen in a peer group setting provide graduating students with increased confidence and poise in social situations.

Executive Director Anne Colvin Winters said, “We are very happy to have a community leader with the experience of Ann Wiseman to head up our new Eastern Shore Chapter in Wicomico County.” Mrs. Wiseman is currently vice president of the board of directors and development director for Women Supporting Women, a cancer support organization headquartered in Salisbury with offices in Berlin, Easton, and Crisfield, as well as assisting businesses on the Eastern Shore with marketing and network training as the director of the Business Networking International (BNI) Eastern Shore with eight chapters in her area.

Mrs. Wiseman grew up on the Delmarva Peninsula and graduated with a nursing degree from the Eastern Shore Community College in Melfa, VA. She specialized in both labor/delivery and as a surgical nurse for several years around the country. In 2004, after graduating from the Dale Carnegie Leadership Class in Salisbury, Mrs. Wiseman earned national certification as a legal nurse consultant and started her own firm, B. Ann Wiseman and Associates working with attorneys through the Mid-Atlantic area. In 2005, she received one of five “Oscars” of the National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants at their conference in New Orleans.

Currently, Mrs. Wiseman is a member of the Shore Leadership Class of 2009. In 2005, she was a member of the Maryland State Team for the Lumina Foundation on the Study of Retention of Low-Income Adult College Students. Immediately after Hurricane Katrina hit the New Orleans area, Ann was asked to chair St. Paul’s Church’s Family-to-Family Task Force, and currently serves on the Shepherd’s Board and on the Praise and Worship Team at SonLife Community Church.

The National League of Junior Cotillions is headquartered in Charlotte, NC, where the program was established in 1979. There are hundreds of chapters in 33 states across the country, involving thousands of students. Winters said, “We are delighted to see cotillion training expand into Wicomico County. It will have a great impact on the self-esteem and social development of young people across the nation.”

If you would like to know more about the program, please contact Ann Wiseman at (410) 341-0065, the National Headquarters at (800) 633-7947, or visit the NLJC award-winning website at http://www.nljc.com/.

Democrat Sen. Tom Carper: Read The Bill? Are You Kidding Me!

Sen. Thomas Carper (D.-Del.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, told CNSNews.com that he does not “expect” to read the actual legislative language of the committee’s health care bill because it is “confusing” and that anyone who claims they are going to read it and understand it is fooling people.

“I don’t expect to actually read the legislative language because reading the legislative language is among the more confusing things I’ve ever read in my life,” Carper told CNSNews.com.

Carper described the type of language the actual text of the bill would finally be drafted in as “arcane,” “confusing,” “hard stuff to understand,” and “incomprehensible.” He likened it to the “gibberish” used in credit card disclosure forms.

2,200 Wicomico Elementary Students Receive FluMist Vaccine

More than 2, 200 Wicomico Elementary Students Receive FluMist Vaccine; Statewide Suspension Cancels Seasonal Flu Vaccine at Two Wicomico Schools

When Maryland health officials suspended the administration of all seasonal FluMist vaccinations in elementary schools, students at two Wicomico County schools — Beaver Run Elementary and Fruitland Primary — did not receive the FluMist vaccination because of the state’s suspension of the program. Parents/guardians at those two schools were notified by the school system’s ParentLink rapid notification system.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, the Wicomico County Health Department announced the suspension of the program, citing the need for a monthlong interval between administering two live viruses — the FluMist live virus for seasonal flu and the FluMist form of the H1N1 vaccine. All other schools with students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade already held their FluMist clinics for students. Through the 2009 FluMist vaccination effort by the Wicomico County Health Department and Wicomico County Public Schools, more than 2,200 students K-5 were vaccinated between Sept. 24 and Oct. 1.

"We are anticipating receipt of the H1N1 influenza vaccine in the near future," Lori Brewster, health officer in Wicomico, said Thursday. "FluMist (for seasonal flu) is a live virus, as is the intranasal form of the H1N1 vaccine. There must be a four-week interval between the two live viruses, which is the rationale behind the suspension."

Approximately 400 children at the two schools were signed up to receive the FluMist vaccine. The Health Department said parents/guardians can have their child vaccinated with the injectable form of the seasonal vaccine through their pediatrician, or the county Health Department, Brewster said. A parent who wants their child to receive the injectable form of the seasonal flu vaccine at the Wicomico County Health Department, also can call 410-543-6943.

Dates for the H1N1 vaccination clinics will be posted on the Wicomico County Health Department website at www.wicomicohealth.org, and on the Public Health Information Line, at 410-543-6943, as soon as the H1N1 vaccine arrives and clinic schedules are determined.

Dr. John Fredericksen Involved With Interference Call In Football Game?

The Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen made an executive decision to let the "star" football player for Parkside High School play in the game tonight, after the information about the child going home yesterday with a 103 degree fever and the POSSIBILITY of the H1N1, was released.

I believe the County rules for going home from school was not to return for a full 24 hours after the fever is gone, because the child is still ABSOLUTELY contagious!

Now from inside sources I understand that they are trying to say his fever is gone(yes, after taking half a bottle of Tylenol) I really would like to know why Dr. Fredericksen took it upon himself to RISK all the football players from BOTH SCHOOLS getting sick, so that one child can play. I thought this man was going to be good for the BOE, but apparently his decision making skills are a little off!

What parent in their right mind would want their SICK Child out playing football anyway? I just do not understand this whole situation, does anyone out there have any insight on this or why the BOE would risk spreading the H1N1 to all the Wicomico County students!

GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY PROCLAIMS OCTOBER AS CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS MONTH

ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 2, 2009) – As critical sectors of Maryland’s economy and service delivery systems become increasingly reliant on effective and secure flow of electronic information and communications systems, Governor Martin O’Malley has proclaimed October 2009 Cyber Security Awareness Month to remind all Marylanders that maintaining the security of cyberspace is a shared responsibility among all of us.

“Threats such as identity theft, network viruses, loss of sensitive information and other malicious activity are part of the ever evolving world of cyber information and communications,” said Governor O’Malley. “As public servants, our most solemn obligation is to protect the safety of the citizens we serve, and that includes protection from cyber threats. All Marylanders have an obligation to protect themselves as well, as we address this modern security threat as One Maryland.”

The theme of National Cyber Security Awareness Month this year is “Our Shared Responsibility.” The initiative is a coordinated effort of the National Cyber Security Alliance, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC). Maryland is a participating member of MS-ISAC.

“Cyber security is a growing national security threat, and one I take very seriously,” said Senator Mikulski, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and cosponsor of a U.S. Senate resolution designating the month of October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month. “Empowering Internet users about simple steps they can take to safeguard themselves from the latest online threats and respond to cyber crime will further our efforts to keep our kids, schools and communities safe from cyber crime.”

“Victims of identity theft know that the time, resources and productivity lost by this crime can never be completely recovered. I encourage all Marylanders to educate themselves about cybersecurity and take steps to improve their own online safety,” said Senator Benjamin L. Cardin, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Terrorism and Homeland Security Subcommittee. “Strengthening cybersecurity requires close coordination and vigilance at individual, household, business and government-levels. I look forward to working with Governor O’Malley, federal officials and my colleagues in Congress, as we implement a comprehensive plan, in conjunction with private sector partners, to better protect our computers systems and personal information from malevolent attacks.”

President Obama recently released the “Cyberspace Policy Review” calling for a national campaign to promote cyber security awareness and digital literacy and to build a digital workforce for the 21st century. National Cyber Security Awareness Month compliments the President's public awareness priority by actively engaging public and private sector partners through events and initiatives to increase overall awareness and minimize vulnerabilities.

“Our nation’s networks power our computers, cell phones, Blackberries and I-pods, and the electrical grid that allows us to turn the lights on. As Chairman of the Technical and Tactical Intelligence Subcommittee, I believe aggressive precautions are necessary to keep our networks safe. We must have the proper defenses in place to prevent serious cyber attacks from hackers,” said Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, Chair of the House Select Intelligence Subcommittee on Technical and Tactical Intelligence, a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, and a member of the House Cyber Security Caucus.

Under Governor O’Malley’s leadership, Maryland’s Department of Information Technology (DoIT) has established a Cyber Security Policy based on international best practices. In addition to the policy, DoIT is leader cyber security awareness trainings for Maryland state agencies and employees during Cyber Security Awareness Month. Governor O’Malley is also co-Lead on Homeland Security for the National Governors’ Association Public Safety Task Force and serves on the U.S. Homeland Security Advisory Council, where he looks forward to drafting recommendations that will help shape national homeland security policy.

FDA Approved H1N1 Vaccines Contain Ingredients Known To Cause Cancer And Death

Most health experts will agree that vaccine reactions can occur. It is estimated that roughly 1 in every million people will react to their vaccine. Even then, health officials maintain that it is usually a simple case of inflammation at the injection site and/or a slight fever. On a rare occasion, anaphylactic shock may occur due to the patient reacting to a substance that they are allergic to. However, the FDA recently approved four H1N1 vaccines that not only contain very questionable ingredients, but some of those ingredients have even been proven to cause cancer and death.

The FDA has awarded H1N1 contracts to the following companies: MedImmune, LLC (1), CSL Limited (2), Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics Limited (3), and Sanofi Pasteur (4). Their package inserts became public knowledge in recent weeks.

All four vaccines list hypersensitivity to eggs as a contraindication (1) (2) (3) (4). This means that it is not advisable to administer any one of these products to a person suffering from a severe egg allergy or egg protein allergy. This contraindication may affect as many as 15 million people (based on a population of 300 million). (5). While parents are instructed not to feed their infant eggs until 1 year of age, these same infants will be exposed to eggs by way of their H1N1 vaccine and/or seasonal flu vaccine beginning at 6 months of age.

CSL’s vaccine (2) also lists hypersensitivity to chicken protein as a contraindication. “While most people who are sensitive to eggs can eat chicken, there is one protein that is present in both eggs and poultry — alpha-livetin, or chicken serum albumin — that can cause allergies to both foods.” (6) It is unknown at this time how many people are allergic to the aforementioned proteins. Going into anaphylactic shock is a very real possibly if one were to receive an ingredient that he/she is allergic to.

Neomycin and polymyxin are listed as contraindications for CSL’s (2) and Novartis’ (3) vaccines. “Neomycin may cause damage to the kidneys and/or nerves. Kidney function and drug levels in the blood may be monitored with blood tests during treatment. Tell your doctor if you experience decreased urination, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, feeling of fullness in the ears, dizziness, numbness, skin tingling, muscle twitching, or seizures which may be signs of kidney or nerve damage.” (7) According to Teva Pharmaceuticals, the effects of neomycin may not be evident until long after the medication has been discontinued. Just exactly how long is unclear at this time. (8) Polymyxin has its own set of possible adverse reactions. “Neurotoxic reactions may be manifested by irritability, weakness, drowsiness, ataxia, perioral paresthesia, numbness of the extremities, and blurring of vision. These are usually associated with high serum levels found in patients with impaired renal function and/or nephrotoxicity.” (9)

Gentamicin (10) is listed as a contraindication for MedImmune’s vaccine (1). It too, has its own list of possible side effects, which may include nephrotoxicity and/or neurotoxicity.

STATE ATTORNEY DAVIS RUARK VICTORIUS IN PIRKLE CASE

The day had finally come for the trial of Brittany Barclay. She along with two other convicted teenage murderers Kenneth Alvira age 16 and Briana Brinkley age 19 carjacked and viciously and brutally stabbed 25 yr old Anitra Pirkle on a cold evening this past Jan 22 2009 and left her in a field on Williams Mill Pond road to later die All who attended the trial found their way to the fourth floor of the courthouse and entered courtroom three. The room was familiar to me since I had attended the other two trials which were in this same courtroom. I took the seat near the huge windows that had provided such warmth and comfort from the sun streaming through them just like in the previous trials. It gave me a sense of such gratitude to be able to see and feel the sun to know that I was alive to see another day, that was not afforded to dear Anitra. State attorney Davis Ruark and assisting attorney Jamie Lynn Dykes who had been the prosecuting attorneys in each of the other two trials were seated in the courtroom early and going over notes and trying to make sure their presentation of the facts in this case to the jury would ensure them a victorious outcome. Not only for the family of Anitra but for the safety of the community. Davis knew this case was not as cut and dry as everyone tried to make it seem. There were three perpetrators of this crime all trying to put the blame on each other and each one trying to make their part seem lesser than the others. He knew just like in the previous trials that the defense attorney was there to fight tooth and nail to try to get this predator off or at least leniency. It couldn't happen at least not on his watch.

On day one of the trial court was now in session and the Honorable Judge D.William Simpson had taken his seat on the bench. He is known to be a no nonsense judge and if you are in trouble you did not want to come before him in a courtroom. He lived up to his reputation. He was a small framed, distinguished gentleman but when he spoke his voice shook the walls of the courtroom. He was stern and direct and very matter of fact. He had no time for idol chatter in his courtroom, just the facts and the verdict that's all he needed to know and he would handle the rest. The jurors filed in one by one taking their seats to hear of probably one of the most gruesome and horrific slaughters of an innocent human being they had ever heard of in the state of Maryland. Davis knew their lives would never be the same.

Their was a silence over the courtroom except for the faint whimpering of Anitra's mother and family as state attorney Davis called each witness to testify about the events of the tragic night of Anitra's death. Anitra stopped at the tastee freeze to grab a bite to eat on her way home from work. She didn't see Brittany, Brianna or Alvira when she pulled up but these three " animals" from a distance saw her pull into the tastee freeze and waited for her to come out. They wanted her car. She didn't know them and never saw them coming. At that moment I could only imagine the sheer and utter terror she felt. An eye witness who had the courage to come forward and testify saw Anitra in her car and while putting her food down and adjusting herself in the front seat saw Brittany, Alvira and Barclay appear out of nowhere and all three positioned themselves at her front and rear car doors and simultaneously jumped in.

The jurors "gasped " when state attorney Davis presented them with the "sword" that was used to kill Anitra. Briana and Alvira testified how Anitra initially was stabbed twice in the chest with this huge hideous medieval type sword dagger which from testimony of her female lover was stolen from a flea market by Barkley weeks prior. Anitra was then forced to drive as she pleaded for her life and begged to be taken to a hospital because she was having a hard time breathing. She was loosing air. She was dying. They continued to force her to drive down Williams Mill Pond Rd in Delmar where they made her stop the car. They pulled her out of the car as she continued to plead for her life. "Please don't kill me " Please don't kill me" I'll give you anything you want. Her cries for mercy fell on deaf ears. As some of the jurors gently wiped tears from their eyes to hear of this horror that had taken place others just sat with the look of anger to think that such heartlessness existed in this world and in the community in which they lived. They forced Anitra to lie down in the field on that cold January night where they repeatedly sliced and stabbed and mutilated her tiny frame. They thought she was dead. They then jumped in her car and drove off to joy ride the rest of the night away. They didn't know little Anitra wasn't dead yet. She was a fighter. She clawed her way and drug her almost lifeless body through the field to the edge of the road where a motorist spotted her from the faint light of her headlights on that dark and lonely road in Delmar. She stopped and used her cell phone to call for help. Anitra stayed alive long enough to to give police a description of her carjackers and killers.

She died at the hospital where the doctors and nurses worked frantically to try to save her. The wounds were too much for her tiny body to take. She could fight no more. The doctor who tried to save Anitra sobbed as he gave his testimony of what he had experienced that night. It was one of the most horrific stabbings he had seen in his career as a doctor.

The defendant Brittany Barkley was seated beside her lawyer. She was very tall and husky and dressed like a man in a suit and collared shirt. Her hair was cut and faded like a man. Evil in its purest form sat in the courtroom that day. I had to close my eyes every now and then to separate fact from fiction. In fact I was looking at a girl but my eyes and mind just kept saying "He". "Why did "he" have to kill little Anitra." Why did "he" bother her at all? Why not just take the car and let her go ?So many unanswered questions. She sat in her seat and showing no emotion or sorrow for the crime she had helped commit and shifting from side to side, holding the side of her face as if she was board testimony and evidence presented against her.

The sun rose early on the steps of the court house for the second and final day of the trial. There was one more testimony linking Barkley directly to the crime and then the state rested its case. Attorney Jamie Lynne Dykes was first to give her closing arguments. She was a beautiful intelligent and articulate young woman. She had a calm and gentle demeanor but delivered her closing argument with such passion and compassion for Anitra and her family to help assure that justice would be served in this case. "Senseless brutal and random" The jurors never took there eyes off her from the moment she uttered those words. They knew that this case had to do with the safety of the community as well as justice for Anitra.

State attorney Davis Ruark stood up to close out the final arguments. I knew this case had affected him deeply because of the senselessness of this crime and the heartless merciless slaughter of this innocent college graduate, law abiding member of the community, hardworking ,tax paying tiny framed young woman. She just stopped to get a bite to eat. This could have been any one of us in this community. Brianna Brinkley, Brittany Barkley, and Kenneth Alvira are menaces to our society and states attorney Davis knew they hat to be stopped. His dramatization of the events of this case where compelling and the jurors were spellbound by his delivery of the facts and the evidence presented. I didn't know Davis Ruark before this case, I only knew of him. It was amazing to see him work. He was handsome, intelligent, articulate and he knew the law inside and out. He broke the law down in layman's terms so that the jury and everyone in the courtroom was well informed. There was no small print, no hidden fees, just straight law no chaser.I admired how he surrounded himself with people who knew there job as well to help him get this case solved. This case to me was like a relay race for Ruark. He acknowledged all the runners in the race.

The police who helped him gather information and pass the baton, the detectives and investigators especially Scott Cook and Sabrina Metzger who helped him gather information and pass the baton ,the sherriff's dept, the doctors, forensics and all of the witnesses and his assisting attorney Jamie Lynn Dykes. He was passed the baton (facts, evidence, law) ran the race and crossed the finish line and passed the baton to the jurors that ended this race victoriously. The jury found Brittany Barkley guilty on all counts including first and second degree murder. Her sentencing date is pending a PSI, (Pre Sentencing Investigation). I know attorney Davis Ruark may not win every case that he prosecutes but he and his team went into the battle armed prepared and ready to fight their best fight and at the end of the day that's all you can ask of any human being.

As the sun set on the state court house the final trial of Anitra Pirkle's killers was over. I'm sure she is looking down from heaven pleased at all the love and concern and support that was shown to her and her family by this is entire community. She will always be loved, missed and never forgotten. May you rest in peace 'Little Angel' who once lived and walked among us.

State Of Maryland Businesses About To Get Screwed

ALL businesses in the state of Maryland will have their Unemployment Fees raised THREE times more next year than what they're paying currently.

This is the maximum increase by law the state can increase. This means the prices of EVERYTHING will go up dramatically.

So tell me, do YOU see any economic recovery in the future? I've been trying to tell everyone, it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

SALISBURY FIRE DEPARTMENT TO GO ON RECONNAISSANCE MISSION IN NORTH PRONG

Salisbury Mayor James Ireton, Jr., announces that the Salisbury Fire Department will be operating a reconnaissance dive mission in the North Prong of the Wicomico River, at the City of Salisbury Public Works location at 404 W. Isabella Street, on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 12:30pm. The purpose of this dive operation is to locate and identify a partially submerged barge which is impeding the waterways.

"Our commitment to the Wicomico River takes another step next Monday,” said Mayor Ireton. “The combined efforts of the Salisbury Fire Department, Salisbury Public Works, and Neighborhood Services to determine the exact location of the barge, the possible environmental impact of its location, and determining options for its removal are our goals. I am proud of the commitment of all our employees in the goal of cleaning up the Wicomico River."

Unemployment Rate Rises To 9.8 Percent As 263,000 Jobs Are Cut

WASHINGTON - The U.S. unemployment rate rose to 9.8 percent in September, the highest since June 1983, as employers cut far more jobs than expected. The report is evidence that the worst recession since the 1930s is still inflicting widespread pain.

Persistently high unemployment could weaken the recovery as consumers, concerned about their jobs and incomes, restrain spending. Consumer spending accounts for about 70 percent of the U.S. economy.

The Labor Department said Friday that the economy lost a net total of 263,000 jobs last month, from a downwardly revised 201,000 in August. That's worse than Wall Street economists' expectations of 180,000 job losses, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.

Knife Held To 3-Year-Old Child’s Neck In Tobacco Shop Robbery

Location: Tobacco Express, 16465 Pulaski Highway, Bear, Delaware, New Castle County

Date of Occurrence: Thursday, October 1, 2009, at 10:23 p.m.

Suspect(s): Black male, 25 – 30 years old, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, tan pants and a baseball cap.

Resume: Most police officers will tell you that the crimes that bother them the most are those that involve the helpless and children- this crime is no exception.

At 10:23 p.m. last evening, Troopers were called to the Tobacco Express on Pulaski Highway for a knife point robbery. This investigation revealed a black male suspect entered the store and approached the service counter. He was armed with a large knife and walked up behind the store owner and surprised her. He grabbed the store owner’s 3-year-old daughter and held a knife to her neck and demanded money.

The mother grabbed her daughter and pulled her away from the suspect. The suspect then wielded the knife and held it toward the mother’s 14-year-old son who subsequently received a superficial wound on his stomach.

The suspect obtained the night deposit bag from the business and fled the store with same.

The 14-year-old boy was treated at the scene and was not transported to the hospital.

Detectives are diligently working this case and do not have any surveillance video to disseminate at this time.

Anyone with information pertaining to this case is asked to call investigators at 302-834-2630 ext. 6 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.

Happy Fall

Dear Dogs & Cats:

The following was found posted very low on a refrigerator door.

Dear Dogs and Cats: The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort, however. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.

The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.

Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door:

TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:
(1) They live here. You don't. (2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it 'fur'-niture. (3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people. (4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they (1) eat less, (2) don't ask for money all the time, (3) are easier to train, (4) normally come when called, (5) never ask to drive the car, (6) don't hang out with drug-using people; (7) don't smoke or drink, (8) don't want to wear your clothes, (9) don't have to buy the latest fashions, (10) don't need a gazillion dollars for college and (11) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children

Brooke Mulford Update

Sorry for no updates since we’ve been home. First couple of weeks were tough. She didn’t have any energy at all and her taste buds were shot, so while she was very motivated to eat nothing tasted right to her and it became very frustrating. Last Wed, the 23rd, Brooke had an appt at Univ. of Penn to get set up for her radiation and to get her tattoos (6 small dots about the size of a freckle). I found out that the plans have changed for her radiation. They (about a dozen radiation oncologists) have decided that her entire skull needs to have radiation so the planning has become more complex and her radiation start date has been postponed (was supposed to start on Mon the 28th) and will now start on Thurs October 1st (9:30am appt with an arrival time of 7:25). It is scary enough that she is getting radiation but the fact that her whole skull is being radiated is terrifying. They assured me that they will do everything they can to spare as much as her brain as possible but some will get through. Please, if you will, pray for her brain to be spared as much as possible if not totally. She will also be getting radiation to the surrounding areas from where her initial tumor was (the Right adrenal gland) and also both of her femurs. She will be getting her radiation treatments daily for 12 business days (starting tomorrow morning).

The past week has been much better. She was finally feeling up to a playdate on Thurs and asked her buddy Greyson to come over. They had so much fun riding around in the Barbie Jeep and chasing bubbles in the front yard with Bailey. A photographer also came over that day to take some pictures of Brooke for an article that is supposed to be going into USA Today (sometime mid October). We’ll keep you posted on that! Brooke had a wonderful visit Friday with her teacher, Mrs. Katzaman, who brought her the activities that the other kids have been doing in her class. Brooke had a great time and was so happy to meet her teacher. God bless you Mrs. Katzaman that was so thoughtful of you! Brooke and I drove up to NJ for the night Sat for the Parkway Run/Walk in Philly on Sunday which raised money for pediatric cancer research at CHOP (Brooke stayed with Grammy at her house). In spite of the rainy weather it was a wonderful event…Go Team Brooke! Thanks to all the members of our team (We wound up with 56 people on our team-not bad for our first year)! The event raised over $550,000!

We headed back up to NJ today. We will be staying at Grammy’s while Brooke is getting her radiation treatments as an outpatient. Brooke had a clinic appt this afternoon. Her Red Blood Cells were low for radiation (9.2 and they’re supposed to be 10) but it was too late to get a blood transfusion (takes about 3 hours) so they told us to come back tomorrow as soon as she is done with radiation. They didn’t think that it should cause a delay in radiation since she will get the transfusion right after (please pray that it all goes well). Also, please pray for Rob tomorrow morning as he will be leaving our house at 4am to get here in time to go with us. Today was Rob’s birthday but as most special occasions this year for us we didn’t get a chance to celebrate it. Brooke wants to give him his presents in the hospital tomorrow and maybe eventually we’ll even get to give him a birthday cake! I think we can all guess what his birthday wish will be when he blows out the candles! Well, I’m probably missing a lot of info but I really need to try to get some sleep tonight for the big day tomorrow but wanted to keep everyone posted.

God Bless,

Amy

How Gubmint Works

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So They created the following positions, a time keeper, and a payroll officer, Then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?" So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one Year and we are $18,000 over budget, we must cutback overall cost."

So they laid off the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let it sink in.

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY .... During the Carter Administration?

Anybody?

Anything?

No?

Didn't think so!

Bottom line. We've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency ... the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember!

Ready??
It was very simple ... and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8-04-1977.
TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND NOW, IT'S 2009 -- 32 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. THEY HAVE 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB THEY HAVE DONE! THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, "WHAT WAS I THINKING?"

Ah, yes -- good ole bureaucracy.

AND, NOW, WE ARE GOING TO TURN THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY OVER TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

HELLOOO ! Anybody Home?

Obama Care????? I Think Obama Don't Care!!!!!

WARNING!!!!!!!!! ONLY Read This Once You Are Able To LAUGH OUT LOUD.

I went to Bunnings(Home Depot) recently while not being altogether sure that course of action was a wise one. You see, the previous evening I had prepared and
consumed a massive quantity of my patented 'you're definitely going to s**t yourself road-kill chilli. Tasty stuff, albeit hot to the point of being painful, which comes with a written guarantee from me that if you eat it, the next day both of your butt cheeks WILL fall off.

Here's the thing. I had awakened that morning, and even after two cups of coffee
(and all of you know what I mean) nothing happened. No 'Watson's Movement 2'. Despite habanera peppers swimming their way through my intestinal tract, I was unable to create the usual morning symphony referred to by my dear wife as 'thunder and lightning'.

Knowing that a time of reckoning HAD to come, yet not sure of just when, I bravely set off for Bunnings, my quest being paint and supplies to refinish the den. Upon entering the store at first all seemed normal. I selected a cart and began pushing it about dropping items in for purchase. It wasn't until I was at the opposite end of the store from the restrooms that the pain hit me.

Oh, don't look at me like you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm referring to that 'Uh, Oh, S**t, gotta go' pain that always seems to hit us at the wrong time..
The thing is, this pain was different. The habaneras in the chilli from the night before were staging a revolt.

In a mad rush for freedom they bullied their way through the small intestines,
forcing their way into the large intestines, and before I could take one step in the direction of the restrooms which would bring sweet relief, it happened. The peppers fired a warning shot.

There I stood, alone in the paint and stain section, suddenly enveloped in a noxious cloud the likes of which has never before been recorded. I was afraid to move for fear that more of this vile odor might escape me.

Slowly, oh so slowly, the pressure seemed to leave the lower part of my body, and I began to move up the aisle and out of it, just as a red aproned clerk turned the corner and asked if I needed any help.

I don't know what made me do it, but I stopped to see what his reaction would be to the malodorous effluvium that refused to dissipate.. Have you ever been torn in two
different directions emotionally? Here's what I mean, and I'm sure some of you at least will be able to relate.

I could've warned that poor clerk, but didn't. I simply watched as he walked into an
invisible, and apparently indestructible, wall of odor so terrible that all he could do before gathering his senses and running, was to stand there blinking and waving
his arms about his head as though trying to ward off angry bees. This, of course, made me feel terrible, but then made me laugh. .........BIG mistake!!!!!

Here's the thing. When you laugh, it's hard to keep things 'clamped down', if you know what I mean. With each new guffaw an explosive issue burst forth from my
nether region. Some were so loud and echoing that I was later told a few folks in other aisles had ducked, fearing that someone was robbing the store and firing off a
shotgun.

Suddenly things were no longer funny. 'It' was coming, and I raced off through the store towards the restrooms, laying down a cloud the whole way, praying that I'd
make it before the grand mal assplosion took place.

Luck was on my side. Just in the nick of time I got to the john, began the inevitable 'Oh my God', floating above the toilet seat because my ass is burning SO BAD, purging. One poor fellow walked in while I was in the middle of what is the
true meaning of 'Shock and Awe'. He made a gagging sound, and disgustedly said,
'Son-of-a-bitch!, did it smell that bad when you ate it?', then quickly left.

Once finished and I left the restroom, reacquired my partially filled cart intending to carry on with my shopping when a store employee approached me and said, 'Sir, you might want to step outside for a few minutes. It appears some prankster set off a stink bomb in the store. The manager is going to run the vent fans on high for a minute or two which ought to take care of the problem.'

My smirking of course set me off again, causing residual gases to escape me. The employee took one sniff, jumped back pulling his shirt up to cover his nose and,
pointing at me in an accusing manner shouted, 'IT'S YOU!', then ran off returning moments later with the manager. I was unceremoniously escorted from the premises
and asked none too kindly not to return

Home again without my supplies, I realized that there was nothing to eat but leftover chilli, so I consumed two more bowls. The next day I went to shop at Woolies.

I can't say anymore about that because we are in court over the whole matter.

Bastards claim they're going to have to repaint the store.

Clean Up At The Port Of Salisbury???

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND THINKING, SURELY I CAN'T LOOK THAT OLD. WELL.... YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONE.

MY NAME IS ALICE SMITH AND I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST
APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST. I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME.

SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 30-ODD YEARS AGO.

COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN?

UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT. THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE.

AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MORGAN PARK HIGH SCHOOL .

'YES. YES, I DID. I'M A MUSTANG,' HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.

'WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?' I ASKED.

HE ANSWERED, 'IN 1975.. WHY DO YOU ASK?'

'YOU WERE IN MY CLASS!', I EXCLAIMED.

HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY.

THEN, THAT UGLY,
OLD,
BALD,
WRINKLED,
FAT ASS,
GRAY-HAIRED,
DECREPIT
SON-OF-A-BITCH ASKED,

'WHAT DID YOU TEACH ???

Overseas Scam Artists Target Local Elderly

Location: State of Delaware
Date of Occurrence: Ongoing
Suspect(s): To be determined

Resume:
On Tuesday of this week, a Troop 1 patrol officer was dispatched to the WSFS bank on Marsh Road for a fraud report.

In this case, an 84-year-old female victim advised she had received a post card in the mail (unknown exactly when, but several months ago) for which she could fill out and send back to be enrolled in a sweepstakes. She put her information on this card and put it in the mail.

The victim was then called in July. During this call, the subject on the phone told the victim she had won a $2.4 million dollar sweepstakes. At first, the victim did not believe she had won and hung up. The alleged sweepstakes company then started to call the victim on a regular basis until she finally fell for the scam.

In order to speed up the winnings the victim was advised that she would be sent several checks in the mail. She was then advised to deposit the money in her bank account and in turn wire a portion of the funds to a bank account in Jamaica for tax purposes.

Within several days, the victim received three checks totaling $10,500.00. She did as she was told and ultimately wired over $1,000.00 to the Jamaica account. An alert WSFS bank employee smelled crime afoot and worked to freeze the funds and contacted the police. The checks were also proven to be fraudulent.

This investigation is ongoing.

Unfortunately, this type of crime is all too common and the elderly population seems to be targeted the most. Why? Well, many senior citizens are on fixed incomes. What law enforcement officials have found is that with the rising costs in health care, and other monetary factors, the idea of receiving extra income seems all too tempting for these proposed victims and some fall for this trickery. The fact is that these scam artists know this all too well.

The best way to combat this type of crime when it occurs is to inform the public, and not just the targeted victims. Caregivers and financial institutions alike need to be aware of these types of crimes and work to help those who need looking out for.

Don’t Be a Fraud Victim Tips and Ideas

Should someone solicit you, never give them your social security number.
Keep your banking information to yourself. Under no circumstance, give anyone your banking information including account numbers or routing information
Beware of scammers; the IRS rarely calls citizens on the phone. They usually correspond via the mail.

If you receive a letter asking for your personal information, be wary. If there is a service you want, seek out the service yourself by contacting the Better Business Bureau or by looking in the phone book.

It’s America; you will never receive something for nothing. Avoid believing in a promise of money from unknown sources.

Don’t be embarrassed. If you were scammed, report it and share your experience with others.

Dr. Charles Stanley's Sunday program "In Touch"

On Dr. Charles Stanley's Sunday program "In Touch", the guest speaker was more of a historian than a Biblical speaker, but he is very famous for his knowledge of historical facts as well as Biblical truths.

Dr. David Barton is his name. He is an expert on the subject of whether or not the United States was founded as a Christian Nation.

Dr. David Barton - on Obama

Respect the Office ? Yes.
Respect the Man in the Office? No, I am sorry to say.

I have noted that many elected officials, both Democrats and Republicans, called upon America to unite behind Obama.
Well, I want to make it clear to all who will listen that I AM NOT

uniting behind Obama !

I will respect the Office which he holds, and I will acknowledge his abilities as an orator and wordsmith and pray for him, BUT that is it.

I have begun today to see what I can do to make sure that he is a
one-term President !

Why am I doing this ?
It is because:

- I do not share Obama's vision or value system for America ;

- I do not share his Abortion beliefs;

- I do not share his radical Marxist's concept of re-distributing wealth;

- I do not share his stated views on raising taxes on those who make $150,000+ (the ceiling has been changed three times since August);

- I do not share his view that America is Arrogant;

- I do not share his view that America is not a Christian Nation;

- I do not share his view that the military should be reduced by 25%;

- I do not share his view of amnesty and giving more to illegals than our American Citizens who need help;

- I do not share his views on homosexuality and his definition of marriage;

- I do not share his views that Radical Islam is our friend
and Israel is our enemy who should give up any land;

- I do not share his spiritual beliefs (at least the ones he has made public);

- I do not share his beliefs on how to re-work the healthcare system
in America ;

- I do not share his Strategic views of the Middle East ; and

- I certainly do not share his plan to sit down with terrorist regimes such as Iran .

Bottom line: my America is vastly different from Obama's, and I have a higher obligation to my Country and my GOD to do what is Right !

For eight (8) years, the Liberals in our Society, led by numerous entertainers who would have no platform and no real credibility but for their celebrity status, have attacked President Bush, his family, and his spiritual beliefs !

They have not moved toward the center in their beliefs and their philosophies, and they never came together nor compromised their personal beliefs for the betterment of our Country !

They have portrayed my America as a land where everything is tolerated except being intolerant !

They have been a vocal and irreverent minority for years !

They have mocked and attacked the very core values so important to the founding and growth of our Country !

They have made every effort to remove the name of GOD or Jesus Christ from our Society !

They have challenged capital punishment, the right to
bear firearms, and the most basic principles of our criminal code !

They have attacked one of the most fundamental of all Freedoms,
the right of free speech !

Unite behind Obama? Never ! ! !

I am sure many of you who read this think that I am going overboard, but I refuse to retreat one more inch in favor of those whom I believe are the embodiment of Evil!

PRESIDENT BUSH made many mistakes during his Presidency, and I am not sure how history will judge him. However, I believe that he weighed his decisions in light of the long established Judeo-Christian principles of our Founding Fathers!!!

Majority rules in America , and I will honor the concept; however, I will fight with all of my power to be a voice in opposition to Obama and his "goals for America ."

I am going to be a thorn in the side of those who, if left unchecked, will destroy our Country ! ! Any more compromise is more defeat !

I pray that the results of this election will wake up many who have sat on the sidelines and allowed the Socialist-Marxist anti-GOD crowd to slowly change so much of what has been good in America !

"Error of Opinion may be tolerated where Reason is left free to combat it." - Thomas Jefferson

GOD bless you and GOD bless our Country ! ! !
