Stocks Tumble As Stronger Dollar Hits Commodities

NEW YORK -Bad economic news and doubts about the market's ability to rally dealt stocks a huge setback.

The Dow Jones industrials fell 187 points Monday, their biggest drop since April 20. All the major market indexes fell more than 2 percent.
Trading volume was light, suggesting an absence of buyers rather than a flood of sellers rushing to dump stocks, but the pullback nonetheless was another sign that the market's spring rally has stalled.

Some Doctors Boo President For Stance On Malpractice Awards

Obama Pushes Health System Overhaul
By CHARLES BABINGTON,
AP

CHICAGO (June 15) -- President Barack Obama bluntly told doctors Monday he is against their highest legislative priority — limiting malpractice awards — and earned a smattering of boos from an audience he was here to court for his health care overhaul plans.

Pushing anew to reshape the nation's health care delivery system and extend coverage to the millions who don't have it, Obama went before the annual meeting of the American Medical Association and took on others who take issue with parts of his plan as well.

Blognetnews "Delmarva" Has Become Pretty Much Worthless

Fetched: June 15, 2009, 8:11am EDT is the last Post, (or should I say the top Post) on Blognetnews Delmarva.

Quite frankly, if they want to be respected, they need to put up refreshed Posts every hour or half hour.

In the mean time, if you want fresh news at this point and time you're better off going directly to each of your favorite Blog Sites on your own. Relying on them over the past month has proven to be worthless on the Delmarva side of things anyway.

I did make contact with GA Harrison referencing this matter this morning, (he is the Editor of the Delmarva Site) and he said he'd see what they can do. In the mean time they're almost 12 hours behind and in the news and information business, especially since they work off of RSS Feeds, this is pretty much a joke any more and if they can't maintain it they should at least shut down the Delmarva Site.

STATE POLICE ARREST SCHOOL PRINCIPAL FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES

(Galena, MD) - The Maryland State Police have arrested a Queen Anne’s County school principal today on three counts of illegal sexual conduct involving a 14-year-old girl.

The accused is identified as Lowell S. Litton, Jr., 39, of the 400-block of Dudley Corner Road in Sudlersville, Maryland. He is charged with third degree sex offense, fourth degree sex offense, and sex abuse of a minor. If convicted, Litton faces up to 36 years imprisonment.

The investigation began yesterday evening when state police at the Centreville Barrack received a complaint of possible inappropriate sexual relations involving a juvenile victim. Information received revealed an ongoing and inappropriate sexual relationship between a 39-year-old man and a 14-year-old female victim. Subsequently, state police criminal investigators immediately initiated an investigation into the allegations.

Investigators learned the juvenile victim had become acquainted with Litton about four years ago. Further information revealed the relationship consisted of several sexually oriented incidents in various locations throughout Maryland and Delaware.

Police also learned that Litton is employed as the principal of Eastern Shore Junior Academy in Sudlersville, Maryland. It is the policy of the Maryland State Police to not identify victims of sex crimes. The juvenile victim will remain anonymous.

Litton was asked to come to Centreville barracks where he was interviewed and subsequently arrested without incident. He is currently being held on a $25,000 bond at Kent County Detention Center.

Police executed a search warrant at Litton’s Queen Anne’s County residence today, seizing his computer and several printed documents relevant to the investigation. The seized computer will be sent to the State Police Forensics Laboratory and the Computer Crimes Unit for examination.

Because this investigation involves a principal of a school, the State Police coordinated efforts with the Department of Education, the Queen Anne’s County Department of Social Services, and the Kent County State’s Attorney Office.

Although there is no indication at this time of other victims, police urge anyone who may have information relevant to this case to please contact state police investigators at Centreville Barracks at 410-758-1101.

The investigation continues…

Try something new after work. Let a friend know about Salisbury News and invite them to visit the Site.

No, I'm not desperate for hits. However, when you get this close so early on, this time I'd like to see us surpass our former record. It's more a challenge and quite frankly we came so close the other day, I hate seeing us miss it by so little.

We'll try to keep the news flowing into this evening so you have good reason to return or send someone new. I don't want to say at the end of the day, (Maxwell Smart) Missed It By That Much!

Family Of John Short Files $7,000,000.00 Law Suit

Family of John Short Files Suit Against Underage Impaired Driver Who Forced His Tractor Trailer Off The Chesapeake Bay Bridge

Suit Highlights Use of Alcohol by 19 Year Old Student

Deterring Underage Drinking is Central to MADD’s Mission

Centreville, M.D. (June 16, 2009) The family of John R. Short, Sr. whose tractor trailer was struck and caused to plunge off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge into the waters of the Chesapeake Bay where he drowned has filed a Seven Million ($7,000,000.00) Dollar lawsuit today in the Circuit Court for Queen Anne’s County against Candy Lynn Baldwin, the 19 year old underage drinker who killed Mr. Short on August 10, 2008. In doing so the family seeks to establish the role that Candy Baldwin’s drinking and driving the night before and the morning of the crash played in the death of their beloved husband and father. No charges for manslaughter or homicide on account of alcohol impairment were filed against Ms. Baldwin because no breath or blood test legally admissible for criminal evidentiary purposes was requested of Ms. Baldwin until 6 ½ hours after the crash. At that time the result showed Candy Baldwin had consumed alcohol but not enough to show impairment at the time of the test. She was cited for underage drinking which is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 in Maryland.

In its Mission Statement, Mothers Against Drunk Drinking (MADD) has listed the prevention of underage drinking as one of its three top priorities to reduce alcohol related fatalities. Caroline Cash, Executive Director of MADD Maryland and Delaware indicated, “When young impaired drivers with little experience driving or drinking get behind the wheel it makes for a potentially explosive result. This tragic case is one more example where making poor choices can lead to a lifetime of grief for an innocent person’s family.”

The family is represented by Azrael, Gann & Franz, LLP a Baltimore law firm known for its work advocating for victims’ rights. Keith S. Franz, lead counsel for the Short family states, “Justice has not been served in this case. Candy Baldwin mailed in $470.00 for traffic tickets she received and is still permitted to drive. She never had to appear in court to face any criminal charges or be confronted about her activities that led to John Short’s death. The Short family never had an opportunity to express to the court the severe impact that John’s death has caused their family. This family deserves answers and accountability and with this civil suit that is what they will now get.”

The crash occurred 3:48 a.m. on a Sunday morning during the August rush of vehicles over the Bay Bridge to and from Ocean City and other Eastern Shore locations while the “westbound” span of the Bridge was closed for maintenance. The “eastbound” 2-lane span was in two-way or contraflow operation when Candy Baldwin crossed the center line directly into the path of the fully loaded tractor trailer owned by Mountaire Farms and operated by John Short. In an effort to deter a head-on collision, Mr. Short quickly veered his vehicle against the right parapet wall (commonly referred to as a Jersey wall) and succeeded in avoiding a head-on crash that would have likely caused the death of Candy Baldwin and her 22 year old passenger and cousin, Trisha Carrigan of Quincy, California. Rather, their sports car crashed into the front left tire of Mr. Short’s rig and again impacted at the third axle, bursting both tires and crushing the wheel causing the tractor trailer into an uncontrolled left turn. Consequently, the truck careened off the right parapet and ran up the left parapet wall approximately 100 feet until it reached a section that failed to remain attached to the Bridge plunging the truck with John Short inside the cab into the waters of the Chesapeake Bay approximately 30 feet below. Mr. Short was not killed by the crash on the bridge or the impact with the water, but rather by drowning. When his cab submerged he was able to remove his seat belt but was unable to extricate himself before he drowned.

Trooper Pushed Into Harms Way While Trying To Help Pedestrian

Location of Incident: I-95 northbound at Churchmans Marsh, Newark, Delaware, New Castle County

Date of Occurrence: Sunday, June 14, 2009, at approximately 1:40 p.m.

Suspect(s): Dwayne Johnson, 27, of North Pine Street in Wilmington, Delaware

Resume: On Sunday afternoon, a Troop 6 patrol officer was traveling on the Interstate when she observed a subject crossing the highway on foot. The officer stopped her car and approached the man- later identified as Dwayne Johnson- and tried to give him a ride.

Mr. Johnson initially ignored her and then cursed at her. The officer then attempted to take Johnson into custody. He turned toward the Trooper in a menacing manner and pushed her toward the northbound lanes of I-95. After regaining her balance, the Trooper returned to her police car and called in for assistance. A New Castle County Police Officer arrived first on the scene to help.

This NCCPD Officer ordered Johnson to stop, however, he again refused. This officer then took out his Taser and told Johnson he would use this device if Johnson would not comply. That was all Mr. Johnson needed to hear as he then surrendered peacefully.

Dwayne Johnson was transported back to Troop 6 where he was formally charged with the following misdemeanor offenses: a pedestrian violation, Menacing, Reckless Endangering and Offensive Touching. He was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $25,000.00 secured bond.

Stop For Seatbelt Violations Yields Thousands In Stolen Merchandise

Location of Incident: Coastal Highway, north of Munchy Branch Road, Rehoboth, Delaware, Sussex County

Date of Occurrence: Sunday, June 14th, 2009, at approximately 6:49 p.m.

Suspect(s):
Juan Ricardo Rayo Romero, 32, of Queens, New York
Maria Cristina Gomez Reyes, 52, of Corona, New York

Resume: Police officers here in Delaware will tell you that enforcing the state’s seatbelt law saves lives. They will also tell you that while conducting this type of enforcement, other good things happen too.

On Sunday, June 13th, a Troop 7 patrol officer was conducting seatbelt enforcement in the area of Route 1 when a van traveled by the officer in which the passenger was not belted. A traffic stop ensued and the van pulled over on Coastal Highway, just north of Munchy Branch Road.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Maria Cristina Gomez Reyes and the passenger was identified as Juan Richardo Rayo Romero. Neither occupant had a valid driver’s license nor was the van properly insured. During this contact with the operator, the Trooper noticed a large quantity of merchandise in the back of the van. The property, which consisted mainly of clothing items, was stored in double lined plastic bags (a method of concealing merchandise in order to defeat shoplifting sensors).

Through the officer’s investigation, it was determined that the merchandise was stolen from twelve (12) different stores at the Rehoboth area outlets. In all, $8,969.50 in stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the merchants in Rehoboth… all because of a seatbelt violation.

The two suspects were each charged with the following offenses:
Nine counts of Shoplifting (misdemeanor)
One count of Conspiracy (felony)
Three counts of Shoplifting (felony)
One count of Possession of Shoplifting Tools (felony)

Ms. Reyes was also charged with Driving without a License and No Proof of Insurance. She was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $29,200.00 secured bond. Mr. Romero was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $28,000.00 secured bond.

Life Is About GIVING BACK

This FRIDAY Fernando Guerrero will take on probably his biggest challenger to date. Salisbury News will be promoting this Fight each and every day in the hopes many of you will give back and support a young man that does more than you know to give back to his community, Salisbury.

While ticket sales are slow, the Main Street Gym and Prize Fight Promotions needs your help. There are plenty of tickets still available and while an error was recently made on a block of FRONT ROW SEATS, several have just become available but you must act quick and contact the Civic Center.

More reasonably priced tickets are also available and you can see at least 6 fights for a mere $15.00 a ticket. Summer time events like this are always tough sellers as so many people are on vacation and so forth but we need your help and support.

Everyone should also realize that Prize Fight Promotions can easily hold these fights in Casinos in other states and always draw a decent crowd. If we don't support this fight it may be quite some time before they consider another one here in Salisbury.

Tickets can be bought in person at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center box office at 500 Glen Ave, Salisbury, MD, online at www.wicomicociviccenter.org, or over the phone by calling the box office at 410-548-4911.

If Fernando wasn't such a great young man and didn't do so much for other children I'd truly not push so hard for your help. This kid deserves to be supported and I hope to see many of you at the Fight this Friday Night. Thank You!

Happy 10th Anniversary, Jon & Kate!

With all of the rumors and drama surrounding Jon and Kate Gosselin's marriage, it'd be easy to overlook that today is their tenth wedding anniversary. So, no matter what happens in the future with their relationship, we just want to take the time on this fine Friday to wish the two of them a happy anniversary. Cheers, you crazy kids!

Price Gouging!

If you'll look to the right of the Blog you'll see Sam's Club selling gas for $2.35 a gallon right now. However, this Exxon by WorWic is clearly much higher. Please, don't come back on here and tell me gas stations make pennies on the gallon. Many of them are screwing people who are already having a difficult enough time in this economy. I strongly urge our readers to NOT purchase their gas from this location.

I Told You, DON'T MESS WITH ME!

I was heading West on Rt. 50 Saturday when I came across this vehicle with both children not wearing seat belts, as well as the Mother. I snapped off a few shots, called the State Police and they were pulled over and ticketed.

I play no games and have absolutely no sympathy for ANY adult who has children in a vehicle not wearing seat belts or in a child seat.

So know this right here and now. If I happen to catch you, YOU WILL BE BLOGGED! I encourage others to do the same.

Saint Pelosi

On a Saturday afternoon, in Washington, D. C., House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's aide visited the Cardinal of the Catholic cathedral.

He told the Cardinal that Nancy Pelosi would be attending the next day's sermon, and he asked if the Cardinal would kindly point out Pelosi to the congregation and say a few words that would include calling Pelosi a saint.

The Cardinal replied, "No. I don't really like the woman, and there are issues of conflict with the Catholic Church over certain of Pelosi's view." Pelosi's aide then said, "Look ... I'll write a check here and now for a donation of $100,000 to your church if you'll just tell the congregation you see Pelosi as a saint."

The Cardinal thought about it and said, "Well, the church can use the money, so I'll work your request into tomorrow's sermon." As Pelosi's aide promised, House Speaker Pelosi appeared for the Sunday sermon and seated herself prominently at the edge of the main aisle.

And, during the sermon, as promised, the Cardinal pointed out that House Speaker Pelosi was present.

Then the Cardinal went on to explain to the congregation -- "While Speaker Pelosi's presence is probably an honor to some, she is not my favorite person. Some of her views are contrary to those of the church, and she tends to flip-flop on many other views. Nancy Pelosi is a petty, self-absorbed hypocrite, a thumb sucker, and a nit-wit. Nancy Pelosi is also a serial liar, a cheat, and a thief.

Nancy Pelosi is the worst example of a Catholic I have ever personally witnessed.

She married for money and is using it to lie to the American people.
She also has a reputation for shirking her Representative obligations both in Washington, and in California. She simply is not to be trusted."

The Cardinal completed his view of Pelosi with, "But, when compared to Senators Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, and John Kerry, House Speaker Pelosi is a saint."

TICK WARNING SCAM

I hate it when people forward bogus warnings, and I have even done it myself a couple of times unintentionally...but this one is real, and it's important. So please send this warning to everyone on your e-mail list.

If someone comes to your front door saying they are checking for ticks due to the warm weather and asks you to take your clothes off and dance around with your arms up, DO NOT DO IT!! THIS IS A SCAM!! They only want to see you naked.

I wish I'd gotten this yesterday. I feel so stupid.......

In my short ride out of Town it was clear to see several violations, three of which I was able to catch on camera. We sure do need someone from OC on Salisbury News. I know I could spend a day there and walk away with a thousand pictures.

The Chuck Campbell Fundraiser At Seacrets

Hundreds turned out for a Fundraiser for Chuck Campbell at Seacrets and enjoyed three fantastic Bands. My old friend Scotty has a new Band called OC Loud Love. Folks, anyone who was at Seacrets last night was absolutely blown away by this Group. The drumming was a show in itself, seriously. Go to their Website and check them out.

We're not privy to how much was raised yesterday for Chuck Campbell but the event was a blast and it was great to see Chuck having a good time. Please keep Chuck in your thoughts and prayers and hopefully sooner than later we'll be able to help Chuck get that new set of lungs and live a productive life in good health.
