Subject Pulls Gun at Claymont Clinic
WANTED
Location of Incident: Claymont Treatment Center, 2999 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Delaware, New Castle County
Date and Time of Occurrence: Monday, April 20, 2009, at approximately 10:50 a.m.
Suspect(s): John Peticca, 31, of Madison Avenue, Chester, Pennsylvania
Resume: Earlier today, Mr. John Peticca responded to the Claymont Treatment Center on Philadelphia Pike, a facility where he regularly visits. While inside the location, an employee asked Mr. Peticca how he was. Peticca, who appeared agitated, pulled a handgun and pointed same at the employee.
The employee, who knows Peticca by name, told him to put the gun away and he complied. Peticca then pulled his shirt up and brandished a large knife. Words were exchanged and Peticca fled the building.
A computer check revealed John Peticca was a person prohibited from owning or possessing a handgun. Also, he is wanted on two additional capiases.
Warrants were completed charging Peticca with the following offenses: Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited (felony), Aggravated Menacing (felony), Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (felony) and Possession of a Concealed Deadly Instrument (misdemeanor).
Troopers are looking for Mr. Peticca’s whereabouts. Anyone who may know where he might be is asked to call Troop 1 at 302-761-6677 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.

A Rob/Brooke Mulford Update
Home from CHOP after Round 5 At long last it is me Brookie checking in with you all. Daddy came and picked me and Mommy up today and we are home in Salisbury. Round 5 of Chemo is behind us, just have to get thru the after effects the next few days. Monday after Easter we went to CHOP as you know and started round 5. This is a quick summary of my week. Monday night I was up a lot having to change sheets and diapers because of all the fluids I must take with this round.
By Tuesday morning I was getting sick and very tired. Today I also had to get a CT scan to see how the Chemo was working on my tumor. In order to get the scan I had to drink this stuff and because of all the fluids I could not. So I had to have a G Tube or feeding tube feed thru my nose, this was no fun! I was so worn out after today and so was Mommy and Grammy, it was a long day for everybody.
On Wednesday I was feeling a little better but still getting sick and not eating much. Mommy and I got a huge boost of spiritual uplifting when Reverend Patterson paid us a surprise visit. This especially gave Mommy a much needed lift. Thank you so much Reverend Patterson for giving my Mommy that extra boost of energy. A little later in the day Mommy got a surprise visit from Bill and Suzanne Hoover, friends from New Jersey. Grammy was here today as well. I also had some energy when I got my Easter baskets from Grammy and Aunt Johanna and Uncle Johnny. I got some stuff Mommy was not to happy with. I did have some smiles when Sara from Child Life helped me paint a couple piggy banks and do a scavenger hunt.
By Thursday we were into the routine of getting sick, not eating much and not getting much sleep because of all the fluids round the clock. It was a long day and night for everyone. Grammy was here most of the day trying to give Mommy a break.
Friday was here and I finished getting my fluids and Mommy packed up the room and Daddy loaded it into the van. We left the hospital around 2:30 PM and got to our house around 6PM. I was tired, but it was soon time for an ouchie. I really really did not want that today. Something different this time before going to bed I have a Wall-E pole at my house so I can get fluids for a few days at home to try to avoid another trip in an ambulance to CHOP, because of dehydration. Hopefully with all the precautions this time these few days go a little easier than round 3. Mommy should be a nurse by now with all the procedures she has to do for me. Well I think Daddy wants to say a few things and I am very tired. Just bless you all for all the prayers and thoughts you have been saying for me, God is hearing them all and guiding my fight against this cancer. I am going to BEAT THIS CANCER!!!
Sorry for not updating this week. With the weather turning it is a lot of work at Market Street trying to get the outside ready to go. I also made a comment that some people were confused on “The poodles are coming”. Next week the Poodle Club of America is in town and it is there big event of the year. People are in Salisbury from all over the world with there poodles and they all like to sit outside with there poodles. This is very busy for us and with the economy the way it is, this is a much welcomed event. If anyone is looking for something to do and you would like to see the most beautiful poodles in the world, take a trip to Salisbury and check it out!
Also next week is professional’s day and that is crazy for us. Then we go right into Salisbury Festival which is a big festival in downtown Salisbury. Hopefully that clears some things up on what is going on also in my life and delaying updates.
To update everyone; here is some things going on and will be going on with Brooke. After the CT Scan they said, “the tumor has not shrunk any more, but that is ok, because Brooke’s Doctors have decided to remove her adrenaline gland that the tumor is on.” This way they are sure to get the entire tumor, because it is in a tricky place to try to remove it. What this means is when Brooke was scheduled to begin round 6 she will instead have surgery on that day. We will go to CHOP on Monday May 4th for Pre Op stuff and then go back on Wednesday May 6th for the surgery. She will then have 3 to 4 days of recovery and then start Round 6. This will be between a 9 to 12 day hospital stay. We also do not know the extent of the amount of hearing loss that will occur from one of the Chemo drugs. Also after this we hope to have some more definite answers on when the Stem Cell Transplant will occur. This will be about a 30 day hospital stay.
I think that brings everyone up to speed. We have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. I can not express enough to everyone out there the gratitude that Amy and I and our family as well can Thank You All for the Support, Thoughts, Prayers, Fundraisers and Concern that has blessed our family. Please know that it has made this difficult situation such a better situation and a manageable way to care for Brooke.
Along this journey it has changed and touched many lives, and because of everyone out there our family will be doing many things in the future to help others who may be less fortunate, raise awareness and establish funds to battle this terrible thing that no family, individual or especially a young child should have to go thru. For now our main focus is to do what’s best for Brooke and do all we can to help her BEAT THIS CANCER! I can tell you this; she is already working on her invitations for her Birthday Party in November!

WITH unemployment rising and the financial system in shambles, it’s hard not to feel negative about the economy right now. The answer to our problems, however, could well be more negativity. But I’m not talking about attitude. I‘m talking about numbers.
Let’s start with the basics: What is the best way for an economy to escape a recession?
Until recently, most economists relied on monetary policy. Recessions result from an insufficient demand for goods and services — and so, the thinking goes, our central bank can remedy this deficiency by cutting interest rates. Lower interest rates encourage households and businesses to borrow and spend. More spending means more demand for goods and services, which leads to greater employment for workers to meet that demand.
The problem today, it seems, is that the Federal Reserve has done just about as much interest rate cutting as it can. Its target for the federal funds rate is about zero, so it has turned to other tools, such as buying longer-term debt securities, to get the economy going again. But the efficacy of those tools is uncertain, and there are risks associated with them.

Salisbury Police Department Press Releases
Willie Lewis Ballard Jr, 28yoa of Salisbury, MD was arrested for Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Officers responded to the 400 block of West Main Street on April 18, 2009 for a reported assault in progress with a firearm. On arrival, the officers located two subjects. One subject fled from the officers but the other, Ballard Jr, remained and was detained. A wanted check was conducted on Ballard and it was learned that Ballard had an outstanding arrest warrant for Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance-Not Marihuana through the Maryland State Police, Salisbury Barrack. A search of Ballard incident to his arrest, officers confiscated a quantity of suspected crack cocaine indicative of distribution. Ballard Jr was transported and released to the custody of Central Booking.
Deonte Lamont Grant, 25yoa of Salisbury, MD was arrested on an outstanding Parole Retake Warrant for a parole violation. Grant was the subject that fled from the police in the 400 block of West Main Street. Officers located Grant after a brief foot chase in the area of Lake Street and West Isabella Street. Grant was released to the custody of the Maryland State Police.

Santiago Jimenez Lopez, 19yoa of Salisbury, MD was arrested for Disorderly Conduct on April 18, 2009. Officers responded to the 300 block of East Vine Street at approximately 2:26pm for a reported fight. On arrival officers met with Lopez who was having a verbal argument with a resident. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on Lopez and ordered him to leave the area and go home. Lopez refused and continued to yell and curse causing residents to come outside and see what the commotion was. Karen Lee Maisel, 34yoa of Salisbury, MD was arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Fail to Obey a Lawful Order on April 18, 2009. Officers responded to Chef Fred’s restaurant at 1801 North Salisbury Blvd for a disorderly female refusing to leave the establishment. On the arrival of the officers at approximately 2:15am, Maisel was located inside the bar of the restaurant being loud and belligerent to the employees. Officers requested Maisel to leave on several occasions and she refused. Maisel was arrested, transported and released to the custody of Central Booking.

The Salisbury Police Department is trying to locate Daniel Marvin Stormes Sr, 45yoa, White Male, approximately 6’0hgt, 180-200wgt, black hair, brown eyes and a last known address of 316 Naylor Street, Salisbury, MD.
Stormes is wanted for questioning in a Strong Armed Robbery that occurred on April 19, 2009 at approximately 8:30am in the parking lot of Giant Foods on South Salisbury Blvd.
The victim of the robbery advised that she was approached by a white male wanting some change. When the victim went to get change from her wallet, the white male grabbed the victim’s wallet and the keys to the victim’s vehicle that he victim held in her hand. The white male then fled from the parking lot in a gold or tan colored four door sedan similar in size and shape of a Toyota Corolla.
Through the initial investigation, the officer was able to determine that the white male suspect could be Daniel Marvin Stormes Sr. Anyone with information on the location of Stormes is asked to call the Salisbury Police Department at 410.548.3165 or Crime Solvers at 410.548.1776. Narrative: On April 18th, 2009 at 10:55 a.m. Fruitland Police responded to 307 Herbal Court in reference to person or persons unknown, slashing the tires on the victim’s work vans. Upon arrival the investigating officer observed that the passenger side Front and rear tires had been cut on the sidewall of two Ford work vans and were Damaged beyond repair. Replacement value of the tires was estimated at $728.00.
The victim’s advised that they believed that a person known to them as “Robbie” who was staying at 302 Herbal Court may have been responsible as the resident known to them as Tina had been to their house the previous evening and “Robbie” was angry about it.
On the same date at 3:30 p.m. Fruitland Police responded to 302 Herbal Court In reference to a theft which had just occurred at that location. The victim had related
to police dispatch that the person who took her property was the suspect/accused
ROBERT THOMAS BUIE II, and that he had just left her house wearing a black jacket
and riding a red bicycle. The victim also reported to dispatch that among the items taken were two video game controllers.While reroute to the scene, officers observed a subject riding a red bicycle and wearing a black jacket. The subject was also wearing a back pack. As officers approached the subject, they could plainly observe through the mesh of the back pack he was wearing, two video game controllers. The subject was identified as ROBERT THOMAS BUIE II. When ordered to remove the back pack,
BUIE refused to cooperate. Buie was given repeated verbal commands to comply and he continued to refuse. When the officers attempted to place him under arrest, BUIE resisted, resulting in him being placed upon the ground and restrained.
Upon contacting the victim of the theft, she related to the officers that BUIE was also responsible for the damage done to her neighbors’work vans. She related that BUIE was very angry at her neighbors because she had been over to their house earlier the night before and she had observed him slashing their tires. She stated that BUIE had a pocket knife which he used to slash the tires. Fruitland officers had located a Leatherman multi tool which was equipped with a sharp blade on his person at the time of his arrest.
All of the property reported stolen by the victim was recovered having been located in the back pack worn by BUIE. Also located in the back pack was a metal hatchet.

Narrative: On 17 April 2009 at 11:24 PM, a deputy stopped a small pickup truck for driving without headlights on Naylor Mill Road. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy observed the three occupants frantically moving around and looking back at the approaching deputy. Upon the making contact with the operator, Garry Elmidort, the deputy detected a distinct odor of marijuana emanating from the passenger compartment. The driver and his two passengers, William Matthews and Adam Calloway, all exited the vehicle and were searched by deputies who located marijuana.
All three were placed under arrest and transported to the Central Booking Unit where they were processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, all three were released by the Commissioner on Personal Recognizance.

Location: 6700 block of Blue Ribbon Drive, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Jeremy P. Polnac, 22, Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On 19 April 2009 at 2:40 PM, a deputy assigned to the Pork in the Park event at Winter Place Park responded to a complaint of an intoxicated individual who had jumped into a hot tub at a sales display inside the event. The deputy discovered that the individual, identified as Jeremy Polnac, got into the hot tub wearing only underwear. While in the hot tub, Polnac removed his underwear and stood up in the hot tub naked, exposing himself to the other patrons attending the event. The incident created a disturbance within the event and was witnessed by many individuals. The deputy removed Polnac from the hot tub and arrested him.
The deputy transported Polnac to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner released Polnac on Personal Recognizance.

Location: 31000 block of Old Ocean City Road, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Troy C. Conners, 44, Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On 18 April 2009 at 3:27 AM, a deputy investigated an assault the reportedly occurred inside a residence in the 31000 block of Old Ocean City Road. Upon the arrival of the deputy, he met with a victim who claimed to have been assaulted by Troy Conners during an argument. The deputy observed injuries on the victim consistent with the allegations. The deputy then placed Conners under arrest for the assault.
The deputy transported Conners to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Conners was detained in the Wicomico County Detention Center by the Commissioner in lieu of $10,000.00 bond.
Charges: Assault 2nd degree
The deputy transported Conners to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Conners was detained in the Wicomico County Detention Center by the Commissioner in lieu of $10,000.00 bond.

Having spoken to some SEAL pals here in Virginia Beach yesterday and asking why this thing dragged out for 4 days, I got the following:
1. BHO wouldn't authorize the DEVGRU/NSWC SEAL teams to the scene for 36 hours going against OSC (on scene commander) recommendation.
2. Once they arrived, BHO imposed restrictions on their ROE that they couldn't do anything unless the hostage's life was in "imminent" danger
3. The first time the hostage jumped, the SEALS had the raggies all sighted in, but could not fire due to ROE restriction
4. When the navy RIB came under fire as it approached with supplies, no fire was returned due to ROE restrictions. As the raggies were shooting at the RIB, they were exposed and the SEALS had them all dialed in.
5. BHO specifically denied two rescue plans developed by the Bainbridge CPN and SEAL teams
6. Bainbridge CPN and SEAL team CDR finally decide they have the OpArea and OSC authority to solely determine risk to hostage. 4 hours later, 3 dead raggies
7. BHO immediately claims credit for his "daring and decisive" behaviour. As usual with him, it's BS.

This was again due to the cautious stance assumed by Navy personnel thanks to the combination of a lack of clear guidance from Washington and a mandate
from the commander in chief’s staff not to act until Obama, a man with no background of dealing with such issues and no track record of decisiveness, decided that any outcome other than a “peaceful solution” would be acceptable.

SHOULD - AND CAN - MAYOR IRETON MAKE CHANGES AT THE TOP?
In this year’s Salisbury election much support for Jim Ireton was by voters who believe that the city administration is contaminated more broadly than just the mayor’s office. Many voted for Mr. Ireton in order to obtain major changes in the City’s departmental leadership. Their greatest focus is probably on the Police Chief, who is particularly objectionable to many City residents for a variety of reasons, not merely his job performance, including:
1. Continuing to reside a considerable distance from Salisbury
2. Conduct during and after the altercation that occurred between Barrie Tilghman’s daughter and then City Council member Rachel Polk.
3. Harassment of vocal critics of Barrie Tilghman, including the operator of this blog
4. Activist role in Comegy’s campaign for mayor – disputing charges and positions of Mr. Ireton
It is apparent that Chief Webster and Mr. Ireton completely disagree about community policing and the incidence of crime in Salisbury. Immediately upon taking office Barrie discharged then Police Chief Dykes, who was highly regarded by the public, for a matter that only she and a small coterie considered serious. Apparently, the City reached a confidential settlement with Dykes that included his resignation.
In general it is relatively easy to replace the police chief, either by promoting a current City officer or hiring someone from elsewhere with the requisite experience. Law enforcement and the chief’s position are fairly standard across the country. However, there is a rumor that Chief Webster’s contract with the City provides for special benefits (“golden parachute”) if he is terminated – if so, that may protect him from being discharged.
And there is another matter that could protect Chief Webster and other “department heads” from termination by Mayor Ireton – the Salisbury City Charter provides that “all department heads shall serve during good behavior and shall be dischargeable only for cause.” This provision (set forth in full, below) defines what constitutes “cause” and provides for a right to consent by the Council under which the termination decision must be affirmed by at least 3 members for it to become effective.
Whatever it may be, Mayor Ireton’s decision whether to retain or replace Chief Webster or anyone else should be made as soon as possible.
§ SC2-10. Procedure for discharge of certain department heads.
All department heads shall serve during good behavior and shall be dischargeable only for cause. “Cause” is hereby defined to mean either incompetency, inefficiency; neglect of duty; malfeasance, misfeasance; insubordination; habits or traits of character which render retention in employment to be against the public interests; material violation of the City’s drug and/or alcohol use policies as established from time to time; a continuing mental or physical disability of such a nature as to prevent adequate performance of duties (subject to applicable federal or state laws prohibiting discrimination against disabled individuals); or any conduct tending to prejudice good government or tending to bring the City, or any agency thereof, into public disrepute.
If the Mayor decides that a department head should be terminated, then the Mayor shall serve a written notice upon the department head at least thirty (30) days in advance of the intended termination date. The written notice shall set forth a brief summary of the cause or causes upon which such termination is based. Within five (5) days after receipt of such notice, the department head may elect to have a hearing on such termination by serving a written notice of such election upon the City Administrator, in which event the department head’s termination shall be deferred until a decision is rendered in connection with the hearing. A hearing before the Mayor and City Council will then be scheduled within twenty (20) days from the date of service of notice of the election by the department head. The hearing shall be closed to the public and be conducted in accordance with such rules and procedures as may be proposed by the Mayor and adopted by the Council, from time to time. Sworn testimony may be provided at that time.
After the conclusion of the hearing, the Mayor and Council may privately deliberate before rendering a decision; provided however, that a written decision must be rendered within five (5) days from the conclusion of the hearing. In order to uphold the termination of the department head, the vote of the Mayor and at least three (3) votes of the Council must be in favor of termination.
The Mayor shall have the power to suspend without pay any department head upon whom a notice of termination has been served pending the outcome of the termination hearing before the Mayor and Council. If the termination is not upheld, nothing herein shall prevent the Mayor from taking other disciplinary action with respect to the department head. [1959 Code, sec. 295] [Added 9-9-57 by Ord. No. 765A as sec. 14A; Amended 5-23-05 by Res. 1247]

At the end of 2010 they will no longer be manufacturing R-22 refrigerant, the stock piles will last a few years most likely but the price will go from a few hundred dollars a 30 pound can to over a thousand in the process.
These old units CAN NOT be outfitted with the new R-410a refrigerant the equipment must be replaced. Pretty much all the residential and light commercial units around here are R-22 systems, people don't realize it but a quick charge me up for the summer days are gone.
There is a rebate/tax credit of up to $1500.00 for replacing your system with an R-410a system that has a minimum seer and h.s.p.f. rating. Trust me home-owners are not ready for this.
The new R-410a systems are more efficient and bigger in physical size, some of them wont even fit in the places the existing systems are at, more money. Its coming.

The tension and emotion of the moment may ignite Barrie’s notorious ability to denigrate her opponents. If you can’t attend, watch live on PAC 14 if only to see if she is flaming, and, if so, whether Louise Smith will try to muzzle her by invoking the “3-minute rule”!

THE SILVER SCREW
Once upon a time, a young lad was born without a belly button. In its place was a silver screw. All the doctors told his mother that there was nothing they could do.
Like it or not, he was stuck with it . . . He was screwed.
All the years of growing up were real tough on him, as all who saw the screw made fun of him. He avoided leaving his house . . ... And thus, never made any friends.
One day, a mysterious stranger saw his belly and told him of a monk in Tibet who could get rid of the screw for him. He was thrilled. The next day, he took all of his life's savings and bought a ticket to Nepal
After several days of climbing up steep cliffs, he came upon a giant monastery. The monk knew exactly why he had come. The screwy guy was told to sleep in the highest tower of the monastery and the following day when he awoke, the screw would have been removed. The man immediately went to the room and fell asleep.
During the night while he slept, a purple fog floated in an open window. In the mist floated a solid silver screwdriver. In just moments, the screwdriver removed the screw and disappeared out the window.
The next morning when the man awoke, he saw the silver screw laying on the pillow next to him. Reaching down, he felt his navel, and there was no screw there! Jubilant, he leaped out of bed . . . . And his butt fell off..
The moral to this is:

Alexis Guerrero Earns Respect In The Ring!
Photo courtesy of Cheryl NemazieAfter winning the MD /DC Golden Gloves Championship in Landover, MD's, Sugar Ray Leonard Gym a few weeks back, Main St Gym's Alexis Guerrero stepped into the ring Friday evening for the Golden Gloves Regional Championship at the Waldorf's Jaycee Center. His opponent was a rock solid US Marine in Bryant Tune. In the words of Gary Digital Williams who reported the fight for his famed "Boxing Along The Beltway" website,
"Delmar, MD's Alexis Guerrero won the 201-pound title by decision over Bryant Tune of the United States Marine Corps (USMC)/Camp Lejeune, NC. Guerrero was extremely sharp in this bout, repeatedly beating Tune to the punch" .
The win will advance Guerrero to the USA National Golden Glove Tournament in Salt Lake City from May 4- May 8. Guerrero, older brother to Fernando Guerrero has been boxing for some time now but has had to split his time between family, his job at Perdue Farms and Main St Gym. According to Coach, Hal Chernoff, "Alex wants to turn professional and I thought it was best to see what he can do when he really commits here in the amateurs. He lost the USA Regional Tournament a couple months back, when he had points taken for loosing his mouthpiece 3 times in a bout. Then he almost did the same thing in the MD/DC Golden Glove Championships, when he lost it again a couple times, but we fixed the problem and he was able to think about just executing his skills. Every fight that he gets closer to a national championship will be invaluable to him in his pro career when this tournament is over."
By advancing to the National Golden Glove Tournament Alexis makes the 3rd of the three Guerrero brothers to fight in that tournament on the national level. Middle brother Carmelo did it early in his boxing career and youngest brother Fernando made it twice, winning the silver medal in his last Golden Glove Tournament.
"I look forward to fighting out in Salt Lake City and will be as ready as possible. I know I can win this if I put all the pieces together out there. After that I can't wait to fight here in Salisbury, maybe on the under card of one of my brothers fights, then as a main event, but I have a lot of work ahead of me first.
Like Fernando, Alexis is a very likable person with that same contagious Guerrero smile. At 6'3" 192lbs
The chiseled boxer is an intimidating figure, but he is as gentle as a lamb.......... until he steps through the ropes.
ANOTHER SALISBURY NEWS EXCLUSIVE
No, this was not staged. No, I had absolutely no clue this was going on. On Saturday I was all over the place with Little League opening day just about everywhere you can think of. Then there was the Frank Kratovil Open House, Pork in the Park, man, it was simply a crazy day all around. That being said, I decided to head over to Frank Kratovil's Office in Downtown Salisbury when I noticed the Plaza blocked off. I thought, maybe there's a Band playing on the Plaza or some kind of Arts event going on. I got 1/2 way up the hill by the whatever you want to call that thing near WMDT and I saw a Public Works truck and some people planting and cleaning up the Downtown Plaza. All I could think was, this is a nice sight.
As I continued to walk I could see Debbie Campbell and then our new Mayor Jim Ireton as well as several other people putting down mulch, sweeping the street and cleaning up what has been a mess all winter long.
Then I thought to myself, you know what, Gary Comegys kept saying how the Downtown Plaza was the most important project in Salisbury. He said, "If you're going to have landscaping, you must maintain that landscaping." Then it triggered in my head, YOU people really made the right choice here with Jim Ireton. Jim didn't run around saying he was going to do something like this, he's just doing it.
Comegys could have just as well been out there fulfilling his campaign promise as a Council Member, but he was full of sh!t, he never meant it and he would have said anything to get elected and the overflowing trash on the Plaza was absolute proof he truly doesn't care anyway.
No one got a Press Release on this clean up. No one was called. They simply wanted to do what was right and I happened to be at the right place at the right time, (like I usually am) and this is the end result.
While we had to move on to the Kratovil Open House, we did get to discuss some ideas on how to improve things on the Plaza and quickly came up with some things that just may help boost interest. Time will tell. Nevertheless, I wanted to share these pictures, especially the one of Mayor Ireton teaching Public Works how to PROFESSIONALLY hold up a rake.
Congressman Frank Kratovil Hosts Open House In Salisbury Office
Congressman Frank Kratovil welcomed a ton of dignitaries at his new Office in Downtown Salisbury Saturday. It was good to see Frank once again face to face. We shook hands and said polite hello's and I wished him well. I did mention to him that he looked like he could afford to gain a few pounds, he said he's pretty much the same weight as he usually is. As mentioned in yesterday's article, the outgoing Mayor Barrie Tilghman stopped in for a brief moment to say hello and wished him well as well. New Mayor Jim Ireton got the chance to say hello as well after scrubbing all the dirt off his hands from cleaning up the Plaza. It was a nice meet and greet and even Worcester County's States Attorney Joel Todd popped in to say hello. I'll save that picture for later.
What is 420?
What does 420 mean? There are varying theories on the origin of 420. Some say that 420 originated from a police code that announces marijuana use is taking place. Yet another story is that a group of guys (Waldo's) in the 1970's made 4:20 their official meeting time to smoke marijuana after school. Whether or not 4:20 p.m. is the best time of day for your first hit depends on your own body, your own needs. Some folks feel that waiting until 4:20 enhances ones appreciation of the herb. Of course, your mileage may vary.
In the 21st Century, 420 is firmly established as a code amongst tokers, a time of day and even sort of a toker's New Year's Day. It's in our culture now and only time will tell where it ends up.

Whatever the real story is, 420 has been an important part of the marijuana culture since the 1970's. The significance of 420 has been kept underground and is mostly known only among marijuana smokers. Many non-smokers aren't aware of the symbolism when they see someone wearing a T-shirt or baseball cap that says 420 across the front.
When the 420 icon is somehow discreetly worked into a mainstream product like a film, marijuana users take notice. The film Pulp Fiction is rumored to have had all clocks throughout the movie set to 4:20. Marijuana smokers familiar with the symbol picked up on it—most people, however, did not.

Recent Trail Cam pictures sent from a friend who lives near Uvalde, TX. The pictures were taken on a ranch in South Texas. For those of you not familiar with the varmits in South Texas , the last photo shows illegals moving north to collect government benefits from your hard earned tax dollars.
Delegate Mathias Recognizes Cub Scout Douglas Buck
Back in March 2009 we presented THIS ARTICLE on a wonderful young man who caught his Teacher as she was falling from almost fainting in the Classroom. This was the young man who was invited to the White House where he got to meet President Obama.On Saturday, Douglas and his Parents visited Congressman Kratovill's new Office in Downtown Salisbury. Delegate Jim Mathias was in a hurry to leave as he had three additional meetings to go to that day and as I knew he was heading out the door to get to his next meeting, the next thing I knew he was delighted to see this young man in uniform and wanted to say hello. He quickly learned who this young man was and immediately reached into his pocket and presented this young man with a Maryland Desk Flag. He then asked if I'd take a moment to get a picture of the two together.
I think most of you know, I have known Jim Mathias for many, many years and I enjoy Jim & Kathy Mathias like they were immediate Family. I can't tell you just how many times we have gone or been places together where Jim ALWAYS stops and gets on his knees to talk to children. This day I thought I was about to watch Jim reach into his pocket and pull out a couple of tickets to Jolly Rogers but instead he had something even better in mind.
Delegate Mathias told this young man he wanted to give him this Maryland Flag but he wasn't going to tell him what the Flag actually means, he wanted the young man to look it up and encourage him to be proud of what it symbolizes.
I encourage each of you to click on the link above and read this story we provided back in March. This is a pretty remarkable young man and his Parents are just as special. My hat is tipped to all within this story. It certainly made my day and it was an honor to meet you Douglas. Keep up the good work.
I don't care what anyone says about Delegate Jim Mathias, this guy loves children, loves Ocean City and loves the Eastern Shore. I can also tell you that this man works his tail off.

Could There Be A New Beginning On The Plaza?
It has been a treat to see so much activity on the Downtown Plaza lately. The Citizens have elected a new Mayor and all of a sudden things are starting to change. Can you smell that Folks? Can you smell the fresh air?COUNTY EXECUTIVE POLLITT, SALISBURY MAYOR IRETON TO OBSERVE ARBOR DAY WITH G.O.B. TREE-PLANTING
Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr. and new Salisbury Mayor James Ireton will preside at an Arbor Day tree-planting ceremony on the Government Office Building Plaza on Friday, April 24, at 1:00 P.M. The public is invited.
The 6 new deep-rooting Cherry trees replace their shallow-rooting predecessors that had caused damage to the pavement on a large portion of the plaza resulting in unsafe pedestrian conditions.
Mr. Pollitt said, “This will mark our second formal observance of Arbor Day. The occasion is symbolic of how important our unique natural resources…our forests and trees…are to us in Wicomico County. We must strive to preserve them wherever it is possible.”
Mayor-Elect Ireton commented, “These new trees symbolize the revitalization and growth that we need to bring to Downtown Salisbury. As you watch them grow, watch our city get better and better.”

The Lines Were Still Crazy On Sunday!
As you can see there was still a wait in some of the lines to grab some food and the place was packed again on Sunday. Not as busy as Saturday but it was busy. Some vendors had even sold out the day before as they simply couldn't keep up with the volume. While some complained, many have to realize that it takes 12 hours to cook this food. Nevertheless, I couldn't be more please for Wicomico County. No one got out of line. No one got arrested. It was good clean fun. Well, that is, until you got home and realized just how much you had eaten. Falling asleep couldn't have been a challenge for anyone who attended this event.
