Missing Man

Its Time For Me To Take A Break

Its time for me to get some down time and take a break from the Blog for a few hours. I mention this so you don't get disappointed in not seeing your comments going up for a while. I'll be back.

Delaware Crews Are Ready For Weekend Snowfall

While totals may only reach 4 inches, agencies are prepared for more

Dover
-- The notoriously unpredictable weather in Delaware makes it necessary for state agencies to prepare for more snow than is forecast this weekend, officials from various state agencies say.

Carolann Wicks, secretary of The Delaware Department of Transportation, said her department is ready for the storm. ''In Sussex County, our crews spent yesterday applying brine, which is a salt and water mixture,'' Wicks said. ''Today, we are switching over vehicles so they can apply only salt, and we are also studying the weather forecasts.''

Wicks said DelDOT equipment and materials have been fixed and replenished since the mid-December snow storm. ''Since that storm, our people been working hard to replenish the salt stockpiles and make repairs on the vehicles. The tanks are full and we're ready. Drivers, mechanics, dispatchers and supervisors have been told to be ready, and I am confident that if needed, the people at DelDOT will once again do an outstanding job.''

DelDOT supervisors will decide about when, and if, to call in crews, as the storm comes nearer.

As of Friday morning, the National Weather Service is forecasting that Delaware will not see much, if any, snow accumulation from the storm heading across from the mid-South. Sussex County is expected to receive, at most, only one to two inches with accumulation decreasing on the northern edges of the storm track across the county. Some southern areas might see up to four inches, others only a dusting. No accumulation is expected from mid-Kent and north to New Castle County.

The Delaware Department of Emergency Management (DEMA) reminded the public to be aware of road conditions before traveling. ''Even a light layer or dusting of snow can affect steering and stopping,'' said spokesperson Rosanne Pack.

Pack said that state officials will continue to monitor the storm's progress and will stay in communication with other state officials, local emergency management agencies and responders ''The public should be aware that regardless of the nature of this approaching storm, it is a good time to review personal emergency plans, including supplies for a three- to five-day period when travel and utilities might be affected. Food and water supplies should always include special dietary and medical needs for household members and food and sanitation supplies for pets,'' Pack said.

Warner Calls It Quits; Hall Of Fame Next For QB?

Cardinals quarterback rose from free agency to Pro Bowl star

Kurt Warner has called an end to one of the great storybook careers in NFL history.

The 38-year-old quarterback announced his retirement from the game on Friday after a dozen years in a league that at first rejected him, then revered him as he came from nowhere to lead the lowly St. Louis Rams to two Super Bowls, winning the first of them.

Written off as a has-been, he rose again to lead the long-suffering Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl a year ago.

Face To Face, Obama Urges GOP To Cooperate

Republicans question president, push back on criticism of 'party of no'

BALTIMORE - In a remarkably frank encounter, President Barack Obama chastised Republican lawmakers on Friday for opposing him on taxes, health care and economic stimulus, while they accused him of ignoring their ideas and driving up the national debt.

The president and GOP House members took turns questioning and sometimes lecturing each other face to face for more than hour at the Republican gathering.

Obama warned that their sharp criticisms of him over the past year make it almost politically impossible for them to agree with him even if an accord would help the American people. They said he was misleading the American people in saying they had offered no serious alternatives to his proposals.

Weather Event Informational Bulletin

Wicomico County Department of Emergency Services

Weather: Forecast from National Weather Service

A conference call was held on the upcoming weather for this weekend. The national Weather Service in Wakefield Virginia is predicting snow to start falling on Friday evening (1/29/2010) and continuing through Sunday morning (1/31/2010) with the heaviest snow fall occurring Saturday afternoon/evening. At this time the total predicted snow fall amounts will be in the 3” to 4” range for our area.

Tides should not cause any flooding associated with this system as the winds will be mostly from a northern direction. Winds along the coast could have gusts 30-35 mph decreasing as you move inland.

The weather service advises this should be an all snow event with no rain, sleet or ice. This snow will not be a heavy wet snow, so power lines and trees should not present a problem.

The Department of Emergency Services is continuing to monitor the situation in conjunction with representatives of surrounding counties, local government representatives and first responders, and the National Weather Service, and MEMA.

Pence Exhorts Obama To Listen Well

The chairman of the House Republican Conference says he expects President Barack Obama to do more listening than talking when he visits a GOP retreat Friday.

Rep. Mike Pence said "we want to have a serious conversation with the president about our proposals." Asked if Republicans were ready to meet Obama halfway on such volatile issues as health care, tax cuts and federal spending, Pence said these issues must be discussed.

The Indiana Republican told ABC's "Good Morning America" the GOP plans to "hear from the president for a few minutes, but he's going to hear from us for a while" at the session in Baltimore...

In Loving Memory Of Sarah Foxwell, "Our Christmas Angel"

First of all, let me thank Salisbury Monument for all of their hard work in making this very special monument for little Sarah become a reality. Between the Disharoon Family and multiple Wicomico County Firefighters who reached into their own pockets to help make this a reality, Thank You and God Bless each and every one of you.

I arrived at 12:30 to Sarah's grave site today with great anticipation as this special monument had been in the works for many weeks now. Sarah's image had to be custom etched into the stone as well as a very special rose on the back side near Sarah's image.

Let me also take this opportunity to thank the Holloway Family as well. Their generosity and love is so comforting, knowing there are still very special people within this community that have never forgotten where they came from.

Steele Told He Must Win Tea Partiers' Trust

Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey has warned Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele that his plans to align the Republican Party with the "tea party" movement will fail unless Mr. Steele proves his bona fides on taxing-and-spending issues.

Mr. Armey told The Washington Times that he had told the chairman that if the Republican Party wants to earn the trust of skeptical tea partiers, it must show it is serious about "not lying to its voters" on those issues as it did in the George W. Bush administration.

Mr. Steele, regarded with suspicion by some RNC members, including some conservatives, has sought to address tea-party events and has called himself a "tea partier."

But Mr. Armey says he told Mr. Steele that he has not gained the trust of the movement, though he said one way to change that would be for Mr. Steele to drop his objections to two resolutions being proposed by the tea-party-friendly, 24-member National Republican Conservative Caucus during the four-day meeting of the Republican National Committee at a Waikiki Beach resort hotel.

"I could support both of the resolutions," said Mr. Armey, who also is chairman of FreedomWorks, which has helped organize many of the biggest tea-party protests.

A Book-And-Blanket Weekend

While arctic air will keep a major snowstorm south of New England, New York, Pennsylvania and much of New Jersey, it will fuel the storm over much of the Virginias and the Delmarva Friday night and Saturday.

While the storm will not quite match the magnitude of the December snowfall for many areas, it will lead to major ground and flight delays, as well as foiled plans. If you are driving north or south within the limits of this storm, you will have problems and could get stuck.

Increasing winds with blowing and drifting snow are anticipated in the heavy snow area.

Much of our area will see snowfall in the 4-6 inch range, but the wind, and the very cold temps will cause it to be a 'dry', drifting snow that could make it seem like more. The wind chill will also be a factor.

Kevin Cox Arrested

Troopers Searching for Robbery Suspect Who Used a Hypodermic Needle as a Hold-up Weapon

Resume: Kevin Cox was arrested a short time ago in Delaware. He is currently at Troop 2 in Glasgow. A more complete news release will be forthcoming later this evening when the details surrounding his arrest are known and confirmed.

GO HERE to see last yesterday's story.

UPDATE:

Troopers Searching for Robbery Suspect Who Used a Hypodermic Needle as a Hold-up Weapon

Resume: Earlier today, DSP Troopers set up surveillance in multiple areas of the City of Wilmington in an attempt to locate Kevin Cox. Detectives had a stroke of luck when one of them spotted Mr. Cox at an undisclosed location in the city. Officers converged on the scene as they prepared to take Cox into custody.

The suspect then got into a taxi cab which headed southbound on Route 13- it is not believed that he knew officers were closing in on him. The taxi was stopped on Route 13 in front of the old Troop 2 and Cox was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators were interested to see that Cox had changed his hair color to black in recent days in an attempt to conceal his identity.

Kevin Cox was charged with felony Aggravated Menacing, felony Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony, felony Attempted Robbery 1st, felony Robbery 1st and issued a detainer from Pennsylvania on charges stemming from incidents in that state. Bail was set at $93,000 cash and Cox was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute.

Detectives have been unable to locate the vehicle (a 2002 Lexus RX-3 SUV, silver in color, displaying a PA registration of EMD 6030) Cox was using during his robbery spree. A like picture is included below. Should anyone come across it, they are asked to call 911 immediately.

Massive Earthquake Strikes The East Coast

While much of the world's attention has been focused on the earthquake in Haiti, most people missed the massive earthquake that struck the East coast of the United States last week. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Boston, Massachusetts and for the first time in modern history, seismologists were able to determine the exact cause. They found that the earthquake was caused by former Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy rolling over in his grave on Jan. 19th, 2010.

Aftershocks were felt as far away as Louisiana, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Nevada and even the left coast of California. Seismologists have said that this quake was so massive that they think aftershocks are likely to be felt throughout the country through the end of November 2010. Fortunately, there were only 3 reported casualties: Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barrack Obama. The quake is reported to have broken their hearts and damaged their agendas.

State Of The Union Address...

It's all Bush's fault ....

Jakubiak – Cronyism In the ‘Bury

Take a gander at page 2 of today’s Daily Times.  Big and bold; in color and above the fold is a picture of Democrat State Senate candidate Chris Jakubiak and former Salisbury city councilman Mike Dunn.

As we noted yesterday, Jakubiak “negotiates” annexation agreements for the city of Salisbury with developers.  I’m sure that his contract with the city had nothing to do with his relationship with Dunn and former mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman – including being an advertiser on the radio stations Dunn works for.

I wonder if Jakubiak’s vision for Maryland is similar to his pals’ vision for Salisbury:

  • High Crime
  • Giveaways to Special Interests
  • Rotting Infrastructure
  • Higher Taxes
  • Wasted Taxpayer Dollars (how’s that $84 million WWTP working Barrie and Mike?)

I sure hope that the voters of District 37 have the good sense to re-elect Richard Colburn.

US Unemployment Map

This is an extraordinary (and scary) representation of what's happening with regard to unemployment in the US. The northern plains states are least affected but the rest of the country looks very bad. There must be no single item on the government's agenda more important than jobs. Higher employment means more tax dollars flowing to all government entities whereas higher taxes will ultimately result in greater unemployment.

This is really quite incredible. A visual depiction of unemployment, by County, for the entire United States , over the last 2.5 years. Amazing to watch and only takes a minute or so.
Great to live in SD or NB.

REAL American Values

Wednesday night, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell delivered the GOP response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address:

What American’s witnessed was not merely one politician giving an opposing view.  McDonnell’s address was a true contrast – the overreaching arm of government vs. what made America the greatest nation on earth.

Democrats Confused About Path Ahead

A day after Obama's State of the Union speech, party in disarray

A day after President Obama called on them to renew efforts to pass his ambitious agenda, congressional Democrats remained in disarray Thursday about how to move forward, with at least some pointing at the White House as the cause of the legislative standstill gripping Capitol Hill.

Democrats left town early Thursday weighing their next steps on everything from the stalled health-care bill to competing job-creation packages. Before they departed, some criticized Obama for casting blame on the Senate, where moderates felt singled out for ridicule. Others sought to shift the burden to the GOP, latching on to Obama's call for Republicans to share responsibility for governing after a devastating special-election loss left Democrats a vote shy of a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Still others said the president's calls for bipartisanship were wishful thinking and suggested that daring Republicans to block their ambitious agenda would set up a "liberating" contrast for November's midterm elections.

"We also have the responsibility, if we can't find that common ground, to stand our ground on principles," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), rejecting bipartisanship as a goal unto itself. "If we can't find a bipartisan way to do it, we are not going to say, 'Well, if it is not bipartisan, we are not going to do it.' We are going to do what we believe."

Call For Breast Milk Donations In Haiti Goes Bust

Intentions may be good, but supply isn't safe or necessary, aid groups say

When lactation consultant Faith Ploude heard that babies in Haiti might need donated breast milk, she made sure to get the word out to her classes at Mercy Hospital in Miami — and her database of more than 1,000 nursing moms.

“Everybody is moved because Haiti is so devastated,” she said.

But it turns out that Ploude and a bevy of United States breast-feeding advocates may have unleashed a well-meaning but misguided flood of mothers’ milk to the earthquake-shattered nation, one that aid workers in Haiti say was not requested — and is not needed.

Obama Versus Obama

Will the real Barack Obama please stand up?
by Victor Davis Hanson
National Review Online

There is little need any more to offer consistent opposition to Barack Obama, since he himself is already running hard against the many previous incarnations of Barack Obama.

The first one we met was Barack the radical progressive, in his primary campaign against Hillary. Then in the general election we were introduced to the centrist Obama, who promised to invade Pakistan if need be, called for an end to partisanship, and lectured about fiscal sobriety.

Then with congressional majorities, soaring public support, and obsequious media attention came the leftist ideologue President Obama, who tried to ram through a statist healthcare regime, gobbled up private enterprises, and gave us Anita Dunn and Van Jones.

Now we are back to sorta centrist Obama, who is going to fight terror, not apologize any more to the Muslim world, and freeze spending rather than give us another $2 trillion in debt.

These serial reset Obamas are quite astonishing even for a politician.

Take the examples of public advocate Obama’s once idealistic promotion of C-SPAN broadcasts of the healthcare debate, and Obama’s current fiery lamentations over the Supreme Court decision overturning elements of the McCain-Feingold limitations on corporate campaign donations.

But Obama, the current reformer, seems to be railing at Obama, the cynical backroom organizer, who would never dare televise anything about his thousand-page healthcare mess. Yet Obama II not only nixed Obama I’s repeated promises of C-SPAN debates, but outsourced his healthcare bill to congressional insiders, who did more backroom-dealing, vote-buying, and quid-pro-quoing than at any other time in recent memory.

So there is no consistency even in the flip-flopping. Obama III as the sudden guardian of campaign-financing curbs is antithetical to Obama I, the rejectionist of any government interference. In 2008 Obama I destroyed the idea of public campaign financing of presidential elections. Indeed, in his efforts to raise a billion dollars of private money, Obama became the first presidential candidate in the general election in over 30 years to back out of public financing, an idea which is now more or less kaput.

So what is the present-day Obama III? Nothing and everything. We have no idea whether he is against corporate campaign contributions, given Obama I/II’s voracious appetite for them. Will he accept public campaign financing in the future? Only if his money machine stalls? Is C-SPAN necessary for or irrelevant to public debate?

Thank God Its Friday

What Will You Be Doing This Weekend?

Eye Opener

A lot of us watch this man almost every day and never knew he was paralyzed.

Dr. Charles Krauthammer

Dr. Krauthammer is on Fox News. He is an M.D. and a lawyer and is paralyzed from the neck down. A friend went to hear Charles Krauthammer. He listened with 25 others in a closed room. What he says here, is NOT 2nd-hand but 1st. The ramifications are staggering for us, our children and their children.

Last Monday was a profound evening; Dr. Charles Krauthammer spoke to the Center for the American Experiment. He is a brilliant intellectual, seasoned & articulate. He is forthright and careful in his analysis, and never resorts to emotions or personal insults. He is NOT a fear monger nor an extremist in his comments and views . He is a fiscal conservative, and has received a Pulitzer Prize for writing. He is a frequent contributor to Fox News and writes weekly for the Washington Post.

The entire room was held spellbound during his talk.
I have summarized his comments, as we are living in uncharted waters economically and internationally. Even 2 Dems at my table agreed with everything he said! If you feel like forwarding this to those who are open minded and have not drunk the Kool-Aid, feel free.

Summary of his comments:

1. Mr. Obama is a very intellectual, charming individual. He is not to be underestimated. He is a cool customer who doesn't show his emotions. It's very hard to know what's behind the mask. The taking down of the Clinton dynasty was an amazing accomplishment. The Clintons still do not understand what hit them.
Obama was in the perfect place at the perfect time.

2. Obama has political skills comparable to Reagan and Clinton . He has a way of making you think he's on your side, agreeing with your position, while doing the opposite. Pay no attention to what he SAYS; rather, watch what he DOES!

3. Obama has a ruthless quest for power. He did not come to Washington to make something out of himself, but rather to change everything, including dismantling capitalism. He can't be straightforward on his ambitions, as the public would not go along. He has a heavy hand, and wants to level the playing field with income redistribution and punishment to the achievers of society. He would like to model the USA to Great Britain or Canada .

4. His three main goals are to control ENERGY, PUBLIC EDUCATION, and NATIONAL HEALTHCARE by the Federal government. He doesn't care about the auto or financial services industries, but got them as an early bonus. The cap and trade will add costs to everything and stifle growth. Paying for FREE college education is his goal. Most scary is his healthcare program, because if you make it FREE and add 46,000,000 people to a Medicare-type single-payer system, the costs will go through the roof. The only way to control costs is with massive RATIONING of services, like in Canada . God forbid!

5. He has surrounded himself with mostly far-left academic types. No one around him has ever even run a candy store. But they are going to try and run the auto, financial, banking and other industries. This obviously can't work in the long run. Obama is not a socialist; rather he's a far-left secular progressive bent on nothing short of revolution. He ran as a moderate, but will govern from the hard left. Again, watch what he does, not what he says.

6. Obama doesn't really see himself as President of the United States , but more as a ruler over the world. He sees himself above it all, trying to orchestrate & coordinate various countries and their agendas. He sees moral equivalency in all cultures. His apology tour in Germany and England was a prime example of how he sees America , as an imperialist nation that has been arrogant, rather than a great noble nation that has at times made errors. This is the first President ever who has chastised our allies and appeased our enemies!

7. He is now handing out goodies. He hopes that the bill (and pain) will not come due until after he is reelected in 2012. He would like to blame all problems on Bush from the past, and hopefully his successor in the future. He has a huge ego, and Dr. Krauthammer believes he is a narcissist.

8. Republicans are in the wilderness for a while, but will emerge strong. Republicans are pining for another Reagan, but there will never be another like him. Krauthammer believes Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty & Bobby Jindahl (except for his terrible speech in February) are the future of the party. Newt Gingrich is brilliant, but has baggage. Sarah Palin is sincere and intelligent, but needs to really be seriously boning up on facts and info if she is to be a serious candidate in the future. We need to return to the party of lower taxes, smaller government, personal responsibility, strong national defense, and state's rights.

9. The current level of spending is irresponsible and outrageous. We are spending trillions that we don't have. This could lead to hyperinflation, depression or worse. No country has ever spent themselves into prosperity. The media is giving Obama, Reid and Pelosi a pass because they love their agenda. But eventually the bill will come due and people will realize the huge bailouts didn't work, nor will the stimulus package. These were trillion-dollar payoffs to Obama's allies, unions and the Congress to placate the left, so he can get support for #4 above.

10. The election was over in mid-September when Lehman brothers failed, fear and panic swept in, we had an unpopular President, and the war was grinding on indefinitely without a clear outcome. The people are in pain, and the mantra of change caused people to act emotionally. Any Dem would have won this election; it was surprising it was as close as it was.

11. In 2012, if the unemployment rate is over 10%, Republicans will be swept back into power. If it's under 8%, the Dems continue to roll. If it's between 8-10%, it will be a dogfight. It will all be about the economy. I hope this gets you really thinking about what's happening in Washington and Congress. There is a left-wing revolution going on, according to Krauthammer, and he encourages us to keep the faith and join the loyal resistance. The work will be hard, but we're right on most issues and can reclaim our country, before it's far too late.

Authorities Quietly Reverse Underwear Bomber Official Story

Authorities have quietly reversed the official story behind the Christmas Day underwear bomber attack and acknowledged that an accomplice was involved, despite weeks of denial and derision of eyewitness Kurt Haskell’s description of a sharp-dressed man who helped Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab board Flight 253 in Amsterdam.

Buried in the last two paragraphs of a story about alleged female suicide bombers coming from Yemen, an ABC News report contains the following bombshell.

“Federal agents also tell ABCNews.com they are attempting to identify a man who passengers said helped Abdulmutallab change planes for Detroit when he landed in Amsterdam from Lagos, Nigeria.”

“Authorities had initially discounted the passenger accounts, but the agents say there is a growing belief the man have played a role to make sure Abdulmutallab “did not get cold feet.”

Detroit lawyer Kurt Haskell maintained from the beginning that he saw a well-dressed Indian man aid the accused bomber to board the plane despite the fact that he had no passport and was on a terror watch list.

“While Mutallab was poorly dressed, his friend was dressed in an expensive suit, Haskell said. He says the suited man asked ticket agents whether Mutallab could board without a passport. “The guy said, ‘He’s from Sudan and we do this all the time,’” reported the Michigan Live news website.

FBI agents interviewed Haskell and he told them about the sharp-dressed man but officials refused to admit that a wider conspiracy was at hand, stoically maintaining the official story that Abdulmutallab had acted alone. Authorities claimed that videotapes did not show a second man accompanying Abdulmutallab and yet they refused to release any footage of the alleged bomber.

A Special Thank You To The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office

Joe,

I would like to publicly thank Wicomico county sheriff's office and first Sgt Tim Robinson.

My neighborhood is setting up a crime prevention program. We asked Tim Robinson to present and he did so last night. I know for a fact that he had already put in his eight hours for the day at the sheriff's office and then he still presented along with addressing concerns from residents at our meeting. This is just one example of how the Sheriff's office is going above and beyond to meet the needs of the community. Tim Robinson reflects good credit upon himself and the Wicimico county's sheriffs office.

A Hillary Clinton Primary Challenge To Obama In 2012?

When President Barack Obama asked New York Sen. Hillary Clinton to join his cabinet as secretary of state, the move was widely praised. Clinton, his principal rival for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination, added a measure of gravitas to his team of advisers and would, it was suggested, help unite the president's party at a time the Republicans appeared to be on the verge of complete collapse.

At the time, comparisons were made to Abraham Lincoln. Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin recounts in her book Team of Rivals how the 16th president of the United States invited others who held leadership claims on the new Republican Party into his cabinet in an effort to present a united front. But Lincoln's decision to invite his rivals for the 1860 Republican nomination--William H. Seward, Edward Bates, and Salmon P. Chase--into his administration was also a matter of political preservation. Their inclusion in the cabinet kept them inside the tent looking out rather than outside the tent looking in, forcing an alliance with Lincoln as the Union threatened to come apart.

It will be up to history to judge whether Obama's selection of Clinton falls in the same category. Whether it does or not depends on what Clinton decides to do.

Obama Spending Freeze Trickery

Barack Obama is up to some spending "freeze" trickery when he claims that he will seek a freeze on a part of the budget for some domestic programs.

In reality, the Obama "freeze" will actually lock in an already weighty, 20%, average increase for FY 09 and 10 in the budgets of departments that Obama claims will have their spending "frozen" for three years. These departments exclude the Pentagon, Homeland Security, and others which administer programs like Social Security.

According to Charles Krauthammer who appeared on the O'Reilly Factor, what Obama wants to do is to deviously preserve massive increases in departments that the President instituted last year under the guise of helping the economy rise out of the recession through massive government-spending increases.

This deviousness from Obama, under the guise of pretending to sell himself as a more moderate president all of a sudden concerned with even a small degree of fiscal conservatism, is particularly egregious when we consider that normal budget increases in departments are merely 3 or so percent. However, last year's whopping 20% spending increases were unwarrantably extreme, and to now sell his "freeze" as something that will guard against increasing deficits is just more of the same, business-as-usual chicanery from Obama.

Newt Gingrich: A New 'Contract With America'

“It is clear that the country is increasingly angry with the Obama-Pelosi-Reid team,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich writes in the February issue of Newsmax. “But it is equally clear that Americans still distrust Republicans almost as much as they fear liberal Democrats . . . there has to be a lucid set of reforms both on the legislative process and on spending for the Republicans to be seen as truly reformed from the party that was defeated in 2006 and 2008.

“So the question is whether a new Contract with America would provide the extra focus and extra energy needed to change the results of the 2010 elections from the expected Republican gains to a Republican majority that will deliver.

“I believe there would be a lot of advantages in October to having a contract-centered campaign if the House Republicans can work their way to a serious, collective, positive commitment."

A contract is NOT a platform:

• A platform says we are for something and we may or may not get it done.

• A contract is an explicit commitment to act. (The original Contract with America was eight reforms of Congress we promised to pass our first day and 10 pieces of legislation we promised to vote on in the first 100 days.)

Delmar's Redistricting

I have seen a lot of post about WCBOE redistricting ideas, but latest is absurd. Check out the front page of the Laurel Star or the link here http://www.laurelstar.com/index.cfm?ref=42578&ref2=241.

Delmar is proposing to send 5th graders from Delmar Elementary to Delmar Middle / High School. That means 5th through 12 graders will be at the same school. I personally don't want my 9/10 year old son or daughter with kids that old. Of course they will say they the middle schoolers are separated from older kids, but that is just unrealistic.

Why don't they just get rid of all the students who go to Delmar Elementary by using other people's address and lying about where they live. That would solve part of the problem, but WCBOE doesn't seem to want to listen to any of our ideas.OR even let us know about this latest CRAZY idea.

Pelosi Pushes $300 Billion 'Fix' To Senate Health Care Bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is pushing a $300 billion "fix" to the Senate health care bill, saying that her chamber could approve the Senate's package if those changes are made first.

Senior Democratic aides told Fox News that Pelosi has offered up the new package of changes to Senate Democratic leaders, with the hope that they will be able to pass it using a controversial procedural maneuver known as "reconciliation." The maneuver would allow Democrats to pass the measure with just 51 votes, without having to first overcome the normal 60-vote threshold.

Some Democrats are keen on using that process, since the election last week of Republican Scott Brown to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts broke the Democrats' 60-vote supermajority. However, some Democratic moderates -- notably Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln and Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh -- have balked at using the controversial tactic to ram through health care reform measures.

Well here you go people Queen Pelosi is giving the middle finger to the American people and doing what SHE feels is right for us.

Counties Seek Blanket Permission To Cut School Aid

Counties seek blanket permission to cut school aid
By Len Lazarick

There was so much bad news for county governments in the governor’s budget that they want to be able to pass some of the trouble down to their school systems.

The Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) will ask the legislature to lift the requirement that local governments maintain the level of public school spending for the coming year.

The counties had already been seeking legislation to make it easier for individual counties to apply for a waiver of this “maintenance of effort” law, but this change would give "blanket" permission for all counties to cut spending, though local school boards have been wary of reductions.

The maintenance of effort requirement mandates that jurisdictions give local schools at least the same amount next year as they did this year.

Continued funding cuts in the state budget proposed by Gov. Martin O’Malley, combined with local revenue drops, led counties to propose the blanket waiver to the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee Wednesday.

“We’ve had [the blanket waiver proposal] in reserve,” MACo executive director Michael Sanderson told MarylandReporter.com. “With the degree we’re getting cut now this is probably a button we need to push.”

The General Assembly granted counties a similar general waiver during the deep recession of the early 1990s, and “counties again need a ‘blanket’ waiver to address comparable budgetary challenges,” MACo told the committee in written testimony.

The full board of MACo, with representatives from all 23 counties and Baltimore City, has yet to vote on the proposal, according to Ned Cheston, legislative director for Howard County.

But Wicomico County Executive Richard Pollitt said, “A blanket waiver may be the efficient way to handle” the problem. Wicomico, Montgomery and Prince George’s were each denied waiver requests by the state Board of Education last year.

Pollitt, who spent nine years on the county school board, said seeking the waiver is “personally abhorrent” to him and he does it with “a certain amount of shame.”

“We don’t want to cut education,” Pollitt told the senators. “When we go asking for a waiver, it means we can’t do our part.”

“We just think the current system isn’t working,” Pollitt said.

The penalty if a county does cut education funding is particularly onerous, he said. The schools lose not only the local dollars but any additional state aid they would have received.

“The children have a double hit,” Pollitt said.

He was part of a panel of county officials who described the severe financial stress on local governments. Many of them, like Wicomico, spend more than half their budgets on education.

O’Malley has not cut basic school aid, partly because of similar maintenance of effort requirements on states getting federal stimulus money. But state aid for other county functions has gone down 63 percent since 2007, MACo said.

The biggest hit to the counties has been the loss this year of 95% of their highway user revenues to pay for new roads and maintenance. O’Malley's budget continues that deep cut to help balance the books.

“The counties are really getting whacked,” said Sen. James Robey, a budget committee member and former Howard County executive who served as MACo president. “I know how they’re squealing.”

Robey said he would be "interested in taking a look" at the waiver proposal, but he would also want to hear from the school boards about their concerns.

Why I Will Vote Democratic

Why I will vote the Democrat ticket.....

I will vote Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my dog Tango.

I will vote Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

I will vote Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

I will vote Democrat because Freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I will vote Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they are doing because they now think we are good people.

I will vote Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

I will vote Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

I will vote Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

I will vote Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits.

I will vote Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit.

I will vote Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite The Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

I will vote Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my YOU KNOW WHAT, that it is unlikely I'll ever have another point of view.

Where Did $50 Million Go?

Auditors find loose ends from last year's budget

Maryland government agencies will have to reconcile more than $50 million that was misplaced, forgotten or unaccounted for in fiscal 2009, according to an audit released this week.

The report from the Office of Legislative Audits looked at the closeout of the fiscal year, and finds that several agencies miscalculated their assets or debts at the end of last June. The explanations range from federal cash that never got claimed to money that was counted twice.

Del. Steven DeBoy, D-Baltimore and Howard, House chair of the legislature’s audit committee, said he is never pleased to find agencies leaving money on the table. Though he is still reviewing the report, he said he doesn’t see the findings causing a big problem during the budget process.

But DeBoy, who sits on the Appropriations Committee, said individual agencies will have to answer for the findings during this year’s budget process.

“For every dollar that they can’t find, it makes our lives that much more difficult,” he said.

Legislative Auditor Bruce Myers said his office finds loose ends after the close-out of every budget year. He suggested a tempered reaction to the figures, though they are higher than last year’s nearly $40 million. He said many agencies can find the money they’re missing within the budgets they already have for this year.

“Most of the balance, that will get resolved the next year,” he said, “but there will be new things.”

Supreme Court Ruling Won't Affect Maryland State Elections

ANNAPOLIS - Last Thursday's Supreme Court ruling, which struck down restrictions on political spending by corporations, would have no effect on Maryland state elections, according to the State Board of Elections.

In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that bans on political advertising financed by corporations or unions violate the First Amendment right to free speech.

"Maryland never had any sort of prohibition against corporate speech," said Jared DeMarinis, director of candidacy and campaign finance for the State Board of Elections.

"Corporations were always free to make independent expenditures in the state," DeMarinis said. "They were also free to make contributions directly to candidates and candidate committees."

Thursday's decision, DeMarinis said, "would affect federal candidates in Maryland, but would have no impact on state or local candidates."

This is because corporations already adhere to the same rules as people in Maryland.

A corporation can donate up to $4,000 to any one candidate and $10,000 in total direct donations during a four-year election cycle, DeMarinis said

GOVERNOR O’MALLEY TOURS MCCORMICK’S TECHNICAL INNOVATION CENTER, MEETS WITH EMPLOYEES

Governor congratulates company on record earnings, being named among 100 Best Companies to Work For

ANNAPOLIS, MD
- Governor Martin O’Malley today joined McCormick & Co.’s CEO Alan Wilson for a tour of the company’s Technical Innovation Center in Hunt Valley, the company’s global hub for research and development. The Governor, who has visited a number of Maryland companies recently, was invited by McCormick’s leadership to tour the facility, which houses the company’s research labs, test kitchen and test panel room. Following the tour, the Governor met with company employees in the CreateIT Center, where new flavors are created for retail and industrial products, and offered his congratulations to McCormick on today’s record earnings report and for recently being named among the Best 100 Companies to Work For by Fortune Magazine.

“Thanks to companies like McCormick – the world’s #1 spice maker, and one of the best 100 companies to work for according to Fortune Magazine – our State is in a better position to get through this economic downturn more quickly than many other states,” said Governor O’Malley. “Companies like McCormick are helping us grow our scientific research and development and scientific management sectors. We are happy to partner with Maryland businesses like McCormick to help them do what they do best – grow, innovate, and create jobs.”

"We were pleased that Governor O'Malley had the opportunity to visit our Technical Innovation Center in Hunt Valley and witness firsthand some of the exciting work under way here,” said CEO Alan Wilson. “In Maryland, McCormick has nearly 2,000 employees engaged in a wide range of tasks focused on bringing great flavor to consumers around the world. We especially wanted to tell the Governor our compelling story with regards to innovation, sustainability and the valued role a thriving manufacturer, such as McCormick, plays in our community. We want Maryland to be a state that helps businesses grow and create more jobs. "

Today, McCormick reported that its Fiscal Year 2009 earnings per share climbed 10 percent, marking the fourth consecutive year of achieving a double-digit increase in earnings per share. Cash flow from operations exceeded $400 million for the first time to $416 million. The company’s attributes the record earnings to acquisitions, cost savings and effective management of working capital and said it expects solid sales and earnings growth in 2010 as a result of new products and a substantial increase in brand marketing.

McCormick ranked 72 on the list of Best 100 Companies to Work For, which Fortune released last week. As the reasons behind the selection, Fortune noted that McCormick was able to grow its U.S. workforce by 2 percent during the recession and that nearly 25 percent of its workforce has been with the company more than 20 years. In addition, it added that 14 "junior boards of directors" give employees at all levels input into decision-making. In addition to McCormick, two additional Maryland-based companies made the Fortune list – Bethesda-based Marriot International, which ranked 82, and Baltimore-based LifeBridge Health, which ranked 96.

You were so kind to post two articles I wrote about my father Harvey Hastings
being inducted into the Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame back on July 31, 2009 in
Knoxville, Tennesse. My father was born and raised here in Salisbury and
graduated from Wicomico High School so when this rare footage of one of his most

She was a friend to many here on the eastern shore (attended schools here) and also leaves behind many family members. No family should have to go through this as we know all too well around here lately. Her family is for help from the public. It is going to cost thousands of dollars to have Crystals body back here for a proper burial and sincere goodbye. You can make donations at any Bank of Delmarva in her name, "Crystal Lynn Baker"

Manson Cult Member Recommended For Parole

Bruce Davis, 67, was convicted in the murders of a musician and a stuntman

LOS ANGELES
- Bruce Davis, a member of Charles Manson's murderous cult who participated in two killings, was recommended for parole Thursday after nearly four decades in prison.

The 67-year-old Davis has been in prison since 1972 after being convicted in the murders of musician Gary Hinman and stuntman Donald "Shorty" Shea.

Attorney Michael Beckman, who represented Davis at the parole hearing, said Davis acknowledged for the first time that he shared responsibility for the crimes, even though he didn't kill anyone himself.
