WBOC-TV Salisbury circa 1985

As many of you know, I make the majority of my money in broadcasting, in addition, I am a broadcasting geek...a big broadcasting geek. For those who have not been on you tube, I will give you a benefit of my geekery. I happen to come across this video recently. Someone posted this video of WBOC-TV (Channel 16) from 23 years ago. This clip is super intriguing considering that they are currently building a brand new set right now.

Here is the video from 1985 of the last few minutes of the Delmarva Report.

Here's MY Question Of The Day....

How many of you have paid for things in the Office or brought things into the Office and were never repaid or reimbursed for it?

There are MANY employers who want things and never pay for them. Radios, bottled water, Propel drinks, documents brought into the Court House, not enough postage on envelopes/mail brought to the Post Office, LUNCH, COFFEE, gas in your vehicle for running errands, etc......

Come on now, let's see just how screwed employees get too?

Why Is The Mayor So Hell Bent On The North Prong?

I just checked the condos on Riverside Drive (“River Place”). As of June 1 they have deeded 3 of 42 units, the last one sold in Dec. 2007. Two other condo projects on Riverside have been killed before they even start.

This plus the now defunct and part built condo on Fitzwater says a whole lot about how the “North Prong” and downtown development is likely to fare.

Also understand that the available residential units on the market in Wicomico County is now at an all-time high. The vacant commercial space seems to be growing all over the City, just look around.

The Downtown Plaza is just loaded with commercial and residential space available and nothing is moving at all. When I was in Ocean City yesterday it was just unbelievable the amount of commercial space that was available.

Mayor Barrie Tilghman has had 10 years to do something/anything with the Downtown Plaza and I'm sorry Folks but if you can't get ANYONE excited about that area, you're not going to get anyone else excited about any other area either.

I've even heard through the grapevine that there are now some serious issues with the plans of commercial space and or the entire commercial project over by the Shorebirds Stadium.

"Motive" is the key word here referencing the Mayor and the North Prong along the River. It doesn't take a Rocket Scientists to clearly see this Mayor is banking on development on the West side of the City. Look, she wants a new GOB and they still haven't signed contracts with the County for their share of that building. They built a $10,000,000.00 Fire Station over there. They have a newer Police Station, the Mayor wants that land cheap and the fact that she has absolutely 100% failed at revitalizing the Downtown area, she wants the taxpayers to relocate everything elsewhere and create a new City of Salisbury. Nevertheless, they can take that land cheap. Write up enough properties in the depressed areas of the City and take those properties back for nothing. This Mayor isn't stupid.

The Downtown area is NOT a lost cause. When you set a goal to make something work, it usually works, especially when you have the infrastructure already in place. What the taxpayers of Salisbury need to realize is, this Mayor has burned out her welcome and has proven she's just not the right person to run this City.

It's time for a change and Enough is Enough! Keep the old Fire Station and use it to relocate one of the branches of Government the City needs to relocate out of the GOB. Heck, why not move the Mayor's Office and the Administration to that facility? There's lots of great ideas that can be done and it would save some of the historical parts of Salisbury everyone would enjoy.

The North Prong is NOT something the City should be considering right now. Start with the Downtown Plaza and prove it's worth growing any more and look at the signs all around you, NOTHING is selling or renting and we as a Country, (let alone a City or County) are not in a position for growth right now.

Two Shorebirds Earn All-Star Status, Sambo To Coach

Joe Nowicki and Sean Gleason both earned South Atlantic League All Star spots this year. Coach Ramon Sambo was selected to be the coach for the North Division. Nowicki is batting .310 with 8 hits going yard. Gleason is 2-0 with an 2.03 ERA.

The Shorebirds are 33-24 and are a half game behind Lake County for first place. The Birds are fighting for their first appearance into the playoffs since 2005. Delmarva returns home next Thursday against the Lakewood Blue Claws for 96 Rock's Thirsty Thursday.

John Wade Belongs In Jail

Why aren't you seeing this in the Daily Times, WBOC & WMDT? Because they weren't there in the end when the absentee ballots were being opened.

However, you look at the second photo and click on it to enlarge it and you tell me, are those the same signatures? They're not even signatures, they're hand written and they're all written by the same person. It doesn't take an expert to see the fraud here.

That being said, I called certain officials in Princess Anne this morning and they are planning on presenting it to the State Election Board and I'm staying on top of this one till the bitter end.

You know something Folks. If there's one thing I've learned, (especially recently) it's one thing to knowingly do something like this and it's another when it's a clerical error. The burden of proof is making sure someone knowingly did something to lie in order to benefit their goals. If this isn't a clear cut case of fraud and blatantly lying, I don't know what is.

The Lt. Governor is in Princess Anne as I draft this Post. I have asked Mr. Frank White to confront him and ask him how they feel about Mr. John Wade being on the State Liquor Board for Somerset County while he has a GA. Drivers License. Hopefully Mr. Whit gets that opportunity and Governor O'Malley reads this Post as well as others to see the kind of man Mr. Wade actually is and the steps he'll take to take advantage of the United States of America.

We're Not This Close, We're This Close!

There's a HUGE difference between former Salisbury Council President Mike Dunn and Princess Anne Town Manager Jay Parker. Jay likes to lead people down the right path with something we call, TRUTH. So Mikey, HOW CLOSE ARE WE NOW?

Debbie Farrow Begs For Votes

John Wade thanks his supporters and asks them to vote for me instead.

This was the last minute desperate effort for Debbie Farrow in Princess Anne to collect votes, any votes!

All of this was being done while John Wade was nowhere to be seen. Where was his endorsement to Debbie Farrow? It may have simply been a smart move to ask the "8" legitimate voters in the entire District to vote for Debbie but it still didn't pan out to help her in any way, shape or form.

Debbie sat in the building till the very last vote was counted, almost in disbelief that she lost and even lost BIG. Her pushing and shoving others outside the polls clearly proves she wasn't the right person for the job anyway. It also shows her mentality when she customized the sign she painted and aligning herself with an alleged con man.

Like my Father always told me, "Desperate People Do Desperate Things." So the next time you see a woman on her hands and knees with a bottle of spray paint spraying a white sheet, think twice before voting for them.

Today's Wildlife Photos

This series of 5 photos were taken last evening on the pond in front of our home. Notice the Goldfish this Heron has in his mouth.

The Princess Anne Police Department

Ladies & Gentlemen, this building has so much history to it, it isn't funny! Built in the 1800's, clearly things were different back in the day and with towns developing like mad, everyone has expected to build new. Not in Princess Anne! They are just days away from a complete renovation of this facility and I have to honestly tell you, it's beautiful!

Not that many people would want to visit a Police Station, I'd call in advance and ask if they'd give you a tour. I took one and it was really cool. YES, without handcuffs on! LOL

Rick Pollitt Appears to Have Agenda With New Law Department

Bringing counsel in-house with the Wicomico County Department of Law (the department already existed, the job was just contracted out to Ed Baker) may be just the tip of the iceberg, both for the taxpayer and for County Council.

According to supporters such as Councilman Bill McCain (D), bringing counsel in-house will be cheaper. Given McCain's views on taxes, we should expect such cockeyed math. By the county's own admission, the taxpayer will be subsidizing Baker's pension by at least $500,000. I believe the basis for that estimate to be overly optimistic, but we'll accept that number for the sake of this argument.

Upon delving deeper, we discover that bringing counsel in-house CANNOT be cheaper. According to Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollit:

Pollitt, who recommended the department's creation, said having Baker in-house eliminates the confusion of having Baker on-call for two clients, the executive and the council.

"The recent confusion over collective bargaining (with the county's Sheriff's Office) shows us that the two bodies cannot effectively continue to share one attorney," he said.

Baker will no longer be the COUNTY ATTORNEY. His client will be the County Executive. This causes problems similar to ones evident in Salisbury. Baker will be placed in the unenviable position of defending Pollitt's actions rather than providing objective advice to the County Council. Pollitt's own statement makes it clear that a RESPONSIBLE council will engage it's own counsel. This will drive up the legal costs taxpayers are forced to pay. Regardless of the cost, Pollitt has made it necessary for council to take such action UNLESS it is their desire to degrade into a mere rubber stamp for the executive.

While I have like Rick Pollitt and have wished him nothing but success in his position, actions such as this, coupled with his refusal to be candid on the subject (as evidenced by this morning's appearance on WICO) are cause for great concern to voters.

Princess Anne Elections

Now that the election is all over and people are getting their lives back in order, it's time for me to express some of my experiences down there.

A kinder group you'll not meet anywhere on earth! Black/White, from what I've learned over the past three years of visiting Princess Anne, 95% of the people living there are COLOR BLIND! Oh, and you know who the other 5% of the a$$holes are in that Town.

If you haven't been to UMES, GO! I'm telling you, it's a sight to see. Get inside these buildings and take a look around, you'll be amazed. Meet the Staff! These are the kindest, most respectful people you'll ever come to meet on the Eastern Shore.

Have you seen the recently renovated Police Department? That's my next Post. Princess Anne is the kind of place you stop by, fall in love and find yourself going back time and time again because you just can't get enough of the people.

If you'd like to meet some of these wonderful people, go to their Hot Dog In The Park every last Friday of every month. If you're seriously considering selling your home in Salisbury, go 10 minutes South and visit Princess Anne and let them show you around. It certainly would have been nice in the Mayor of Salisbury's 10 years of being in Officer for her to have revitalized the Downtown Plaza area like they have in the main section of Somerset Ave in Downtown Princess Anne. It is absolutely breathtaking, especially at night.

Today's Question 6-5-08

Have you ever taken something from work to use at home? Is taking office/janitorial/medical supplies from work the same as shoplifting or stealing? Have you ever taken something from work for personal use? Did your boss know about it?

NORTH PRONG PUBLIC MEETING TONIGHT

JUNE 5th - 6 pm

NEW FIRE HOUSE - CYPRESS ST., SALISBURY

A Friend Writes In.......

"With everyone in Salisbury being stingy with the police as far as budgets and raising sewer rates thought you would be interested in how a little town like Crisfield does it. This week the City Council approved new patrol cars for the Crisfield PD-The Crisfield Chief wears a standard issue uniform just like his men and he has done such a good job that local drug thugs have threatened him-and although there is a MAJOR sewer project underway in Crisfield right now,the council voted NOT to raise water/sewer rates-in fact they also voted to give senior citizens a tax break on assessments in town. Maybe the people being priced out of Salisbury should look South."

I couldn't agree more. Seriously though, Princess Anne is also another beautiful town to consider. Your best bet and or best buy is in Delmar, DE. though. The taxes are 70% less, (if not more) and you get the luxury of everything Salisbury has to offer for free anyway. Start looking now while the market is right.

The Daily Times Fails To Deliver Again!

It's been three days in a row we've gone out to our mailbox and there's been NO newspaper. I know some of you are sick of hearing me complain but the point here is, if you're no longer getting their newspaper you're not missing out on anything. We continue our subscription so we can keep up on things like this as well as read the BS they still continue to impress people with, like information on/from the Mayor.

Brass Balls

Back before missiles, it was necessary to keep a good supply of cannon balls near the cannon on war ships. But how to prevent them from rolling about the deck was the problem.. The best storage method devised was to stack them as a square based pyramid, with one ball on top, resting on four, resting on nine, which rested on sixteen. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon.

There was only one problem, how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding/rolling from under the others. The solution was a metal plate with 16 round indentations, called a Monkey. But if this plate was made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to therusting problem was to make Brass Monkeys.

Few landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than iron when chilled. Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannon balls would come right off the monkey. Thus, it was quite literally, cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.

And all this time, you thought that was a vulgar expression, didn't
you?

Skateboard Park Fundraiser This Weekend

There will be a Skateboard Park Fundraiser this Saturday the 7th from noon until 5. It will be held in the municipal parking lot between the library and WMDT. $10 entry fee… wristbands will be given and must be worn at all times. All skateboarders must fill out a waiver form and wear a helmet while skating. There will be various ramps and obstacles set up. Contests will be held (highest ollie, biggest air, longest powerslide, etc…) & trophies will be given to winners. Several local bands will be performing. There will be food and sodas available from Flannery’s. Salisbury Bible Fellowship will be selling Italian ices. This even is meant to be a “block party” type of event, open to the public. Hopefully this will draw people who are not skateboarders as well. This is to raise money and public awareness for the Salisbury Skatepark.
