Fernando Guerrero Gets His 6th Straight Knock Out Last Night
Fernando Guerrero, now 6-0 Salisbury MD fought Anthony Bowman, 7-29 Jackson MS. and knocked the man OUT in the 3rd of 6 rounds!
I received a call this afternoon from our Friend and Fernando's Trainer Hal Chernoff explaining how his fight last night went.
In the first round, Fernando toyed with Bowman and did what they call, feeling him out. In the second round Fernando started getting more and more comfortable in the ring and knocked Bowman onto the canvas for a standing 8 count. He survived the round but things got even more serious in the 3rd round when Fernando quickly knocked him down once again as Bowman received yet another standing 8 count. He was able to get up and continue the fight but Fernando quickly went in for the kill and knocked him down for a second time in the 3rd round, this time Bowman told the Referee he couldn't continue.
Fernando got the TKO and continues his Professional Career undefeated with a 6-0 record. Fernando and Hal are back in Salisbury as we speak and again our Congratulations goes out to this young man once again. Great work guys!

Two escapees apprehended
Sorry I couldn't get this up any earlier, but it seems that the two escapees from WCDC who stole a van from the Civic Center have been apprehended. Witnesses who live on Mt. Hermon Rd. in the area of Kaywood Dr. Say they heard sirens coming up the road in their direct. One man (who wished to remain anonymous) stated that as the sirens got closer he observed a mini van being chased by a Maryland State Police patrol car passing in front of his house with a "donut spare" on the right front. He stated that as the van went by his house the MSP patrol car executed a PIT manuever at which time the back end of the van began to slide sideways. He stated that the back of the van went from side to side at which time another MSP patrol car hit the van in the front just hard enough to stop it completely after which Troopers broke the windows out of the van and .....assisted.......three suspects out of the vehicle. The witness stated that there were also Delaware State Police and Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office involved in the pursuit. I believe the witness may have confused Worcester Co. Sheriff's office patrol cars for DSP cars. Great job!
Forum On The Environment Scheduled For Mallard Landing
The Wicomico Neighborhood Congress is pleased to announce its 3rd community forum; A discussion of issues facing the environment in Wicomico County. Experts from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, The Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, and the Audubon Society are slated to present to members, the public, and residents of Mallard Landing in Salisbury on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 7:00 PM.
Margaret Vivian, Heart of the Chesapeake Coordinator for Chesapeake Bay Foundation will present on the challenges facing the Wicomico River basin and ways that citizens of the county can protect the health of the river. Her presentation will include the statistics of the 2007 Creekwatchers Report - the most comprehensive, unbiased, and scientifically credible information available on the health of the Wicomico River. Vivian will also present on rain barrels and rain gardens and how their use by citizens are a benefit to the environment.
Megan Ward will continue the evening with a comprehensive look at the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance project to monitor the health of the Nanticoke River and its watershed – which encompasses over 370, 000 acres, and five counties in two states. Megan will discuss the framework of the Alliance’s program, what aspects of water quality are monitored, and what NWA hopes to achieve as a result of the project.
David Curson, Director of Bird Conservation for Audubon MD-DC, will discuss “Important Bird Areas on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore” and the “Prioritization of Sites for Bird Conservation.” Mr. Curson’s presentation will focus on habitat loss and the strategic approach to bird conservation for bird species in particularly vulnerable areas.
This Wicomico Neighborhood Congress forum follows November 2007’s forum on “Growth and Development” in Hebron, MD, January 2008’s forum on “Crime” in Delmar, MD. Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt encouraged the public to attend and added, “After its first forums on growth and crime, the WNC is taking another big step into an issue that affects every neighborhood in Wicomico County…the environment. I hope many of us will attend and take advantage of this opportunity to become involved in the issues that affect our quality of life.” Pollitt formed the WNC with community activist Rocky Burnett and Salisbury City Councilwoman Debbie Campbell, shortly after being elected County Executive in late 2006.
WNC Chairman Jim Ireton is equally excited to hold the Environment Forum at Mallard Landing in Salisbury. “With the view of Schumaker Pond on the way into Mallard Landing, it’s not hard to realize the connectivity of all of our waterways and that this forum will highlight the Wicomico and Nanticoke Rivers. We are lucky to have the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, and the Audubon Society join with us in our continued effort to educate and organize citizens around common problems that face Wicomico County. Their efforts to give us tangible evidence and best practices in conservation and preservation are deeply appreciated. As always the public is invited and encouraged to attend.”
Mallard Landing Retirement Community is located 1107 S. Schumaker Drive in Salisbury. The WNC meeting will take place in the community clubhouse on the Mallard Landing campus. Questions and information? Please contact WNC Chairman Jim Ireton at 410-749-5712.

Mistake In Post Yesterday
As I was made well aware that the post about a fatal accident on Rt. 13 yesterday was in fact an error, it turns out some guy was running down Rt. 13 naked as a jay bird and was wrestled down (with a fight) by a Police Officer and one passer by helping out. Once he was handcuffed the Sheriff's Department used a wool blanket and covered the man.
My guess is when my source for this information passed by, at that point the man was fully covered with a blanket and lying still on the ground, assuming he was dead.
I do NOT believe it is so horrible the other post went up as there are going to be times we're going to make mistakes. It's a Blog and it's Free! I chose not to drive to the scene as I've also decided I need to pick and choose what I'm going to actually head out to.
That being said, we're sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused, (none) and we'll try to do better to please our free reading public. Think again before you send any more nasty comments. Quite frankly I found them pathetic.

The Salisbury Festival At Night
I don't know who makes up the schedule for this event but only having the beer and bands go from 4 PM to 8 PM on Saturday night is just flat out stupid. You'd think that after a quarter of a century long event would have a good idea as to what works and what doesn't and I just can't imagine the schedule offered as making any kind of good sense financially.
I'll continue by stating, look at the difference between the Pork in the Park event and the Salisbury Festival. For starters, GET THIS, the vendors were charged $400.00, (including power) at Pork in the Park. The Salisbury Festival charges a minimum of $700.00 and that does NOT include power!
The Police presence at both events was night and day. Pork in the Park only had Sheriff's Deputies while the Salisbury Festival had private security guards, Salisbury Police Officers, County Sheriff's Deputies AND Correctional Officers to boot!
Oh, and if you weren't aware, the Salisbury Festival costs YOU the taxpayer around $300,000.00 to pull off! I should not forget the difference between Rides and Tickets. In Salisbury, many Rides cost 3 tickets while these same Rides in Pork in the Park only cost 2 tickets.
In closing, the event was much smaller this year than it was last year. Last year you couldn't budge, seriously. It was a more social event last year but the economy is one part of it. Another part is the lack of respect towards local politicians. More and more people have become disappointed in what they're seeing and they're simply giving up. I expect a record turn out for the Mayoral Election.
Slow Start
I wish I could say I've been sleeping in but that's not the case. I'll have several posts up in just a little while.
