Single Vehicle Fatal Crash Investigated East of Seaford

Seaford - The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred east of Seaford.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Sunday August 13, 2017 as a 31-year-old Bridgeville man was operating a 2003 Hyundai XG sedan northbound on King Road just north of Dove Road at an apparent high rate of speed. While attempting to negotiate a moderate right curve on a rain soaked roadway, the operator lost control, causing the car to rotate in a clockwise direction off the east side of the roadway. The front of the Hyundai then struck a large tree causing a violent rotation, partially ejecting the driver, while simultaneously striking a second tree before coming to a stop.

The 31-year-old operator was not properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this case. King Road was closed for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers Investigating Apparent Attempted Murder-Suicide In Wicomico Co.

(WILLARDS, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating an apparent attempted murder and suicide that left one man dead and one wounded tonight in Wicomico County

The victim of the attempted murder is an adult male. He is currently being treated for apparent gunshot wounds at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition

The suspect is an adult male. He was found deceased with an apparent gunshot wound. A handgun was found in his possession

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. today, Maryland State Police at the Salisbury Barrack responded to a call for a shooting reported at a residence in the 36000-block of Sheppards Crossing Rd., in Willards, Md. Responding troopers found the male victim at the residence, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

As troopers were responding to the home, another call was received about a vehicle submerged in water a short distance away in the 34000-block of Tingle Road. Wicomico County deputies responded to the scene and directed a tow truck to pull the vehicle from the water.

Inside the vehicle, troopers found the body of a deceased man, who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. A handgun was found with the body.

Maryland State Police investigators from the Criminal Enforcement Division are conducting an ongoing investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect, for unknown reasons, drove to the victim’s home and began knocking on his door, demanding the keys to his vehicle. The victim was shot while he spoke with the suspect at his front door

The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect then stole the victim’s vehicle and drove from the residence. He then traveled to where the vehicle was found submerged

Details remain few at this time. A motive is unknown and investigators do not know if the victim and suspect knew each other.

Investigators believe the situation is contained to this attempted murder and suicide. The investigation is continuing.

WICOMICO: Some County Retirees Get the Lush Life

By Thornton Crowe

We’ve all heard the horror stories about how many retired seniors not having enough income to cover basic living expenses, but there are retirees who live large on annual incomes that put most workers’ pay to shame! If you retire from Wicomico County service, you have the potential of raking in big bucks, watching Dr. Phil reruns on OWN all day!

And the best part is, it’s all on your dime! Yes, taxpayers working one, two or possibly three jobs to irk out a meager existence are footing for this rather hefty bill.

Reality is this: some retirees make in upwards of 80+% of their largest salary during their service (formula below). For example, well-known retiree, Matt Creamer, pulls in around $100K per annum, while his fellow retiree, Ed Baker, pockets around $50K per year. This income is in addition to their Social Security and any 401K or other investments payouts. Additionally, County retirees get 85% of their healthcare/prescription costs covered by taxpayers while 75% of their spouses’ medical is covered, too. (Guess it pays to marry a County employee, too.)

Stunning amounts considering most private sector and lower paid County retirees rely solely on meager Social Security payments and unstable 401K returns which, depending on who’s in the White House, can fluctuate like the Great Wonder at Six Flags!

A Viewer Writes: Delays and lack of response

Hey Joe! Was listening to the scanner today and couldn't help but notice how many times SFD crews were tied up and unable to respond to calls they were dispatched for. At least 3 and possibly 4 times today engine 16 and truck 1 were dispatched and responded to the calls together (Have noticed this happens with most large structure - don't have anything against it but what about the rest of the city and county?) Anyhow, the assistant chief on duty requested all 3 city stations be toned out for volunteer response specifically for a medical assist and got NO RESPONSE from either volunteer.

In addition, did anyone else hear SFD respond to Hebron last night to an incident on Levin Deshiell? Did they notify Hebron as a courtesy and I missed it? I can only imagine how Hebron is feeling about it. Seems SFD thinks they can just do as they please and they are superior to the other county stations. When is enough enough?

SFD egos are getting out of control. The city clearly doesn't have the volunteer support they have claimed to have since those other volunteers left. They repeatedly told the media that those members had a less than 50% response but anything is better than what they are getting now. The city and county came to an agreement giving the city more control. The city agreed to service the county territory but clearly they don't have the means to provide and unfortunately there will come a day when someone suffers due to SFD not being able to respond in a timely manner and then not having any volunteers to respond either. This agreement only benefits the city and screws the county in the long run.

The leadership on both sides is ridiculous. Jake Day who acts like everything is sunshine and rainbows, John Cannon who kisses Jake's butt in return for who knows what, and Bob Culver who goes back and forth on every decision he makes. EVERYONE on both sides need to be replaced with people who actually care about the tax payers, both city and county.

You have a station, who is recognized by Wicomico county and the state of Maryland as a legitimate fire department but they aren't being utilized because that would mean the city would lose revenue that they shouldn't be getting anyways. SFD is struggling to cover calls without being realerted and this could be drastically changed by simply utilizing this available independent company.

Joe, I'm not sure what it will take for the officials and SFD administration to realize the lives of the citizens have the potential to be severely impacted by the delay in response from SFD. Do you have any suggestions so our voices can be heard on this matter? Is there any way this agreement can be reversed as it clearly was not created to benefit anyone but the City? When will the county wake up? Does it take someone losing their life due to delayed or lack of response from SFD to make the officials see they made a huge mistake by making this agreement? I hope and pray it doesn't happen to my family, but best believe, if it does, they will experience a wrath like no other.

Does anyone truly believe that firefighters deserve the same pay as PARAMEDICS, POLICE or SOLDIERS? 24 on, 72 off with sleep, meals and games included...

When is the last time your community suffered from a catastrophic fire? I'm not saying that firefighters aren't needed and appreciated... but to ride the coattails of police retirements and EMS pay the way they do bankrupts communities and is undeserved. We all train to save lives and go into emergency situations. COPS are trained to TAKE a life. PARARMEDICS perform medical lifesaving.

SOLDIERS are under the gun daily. Firefighters...not so much. Just saying. Stop with the self-promulgatimg sprinklers and blue reflector "cat eyes" and building inspections... sure they are necessary, but they don't justify you getting a cop's pension. Politicians lump it all together when it's sooo different... think about it...

Bring on the hate about running into burning buildings... is that really the best you've got?

WHY THE HELL DIDN'T THE SIRENS GO OFF? 8-7-17

Local Fire Stations have been saying for a hundred years now that they keep the sirens operating for emergency situations. WHY didn't the sirens go off throughout our communities when this tornado touched down?

Boy Mayor Lies To The Press

It seems the Boy Mayor has what us seniors call, select memory. When it comes to the fire service, this is the map Executive Culver delivered and Day agreed upon. Boundaries were in fact agreed upon and mapped out, (on the record) but Day denies recalling anything of the sort.

It's been reported Salisbury Fire Departments have been seriously slacking and frankly the County Volunteers are sick and tired of having to race into the City to help them out while the City refuses to back up the County calls. We're told the SFD is lagging by up to 18 minutes on any given call. So much for saving lives and giving a damn about their community.

Ladies & Gentlemen, do NOT pay any attention to your local media about this matter. They are purposely trying to make Day look like a Saint in this matter and as much and often as Culver tries to deliver the media evidence, they refuse to correct their false statements. The Daily Times IS FAKE NEWS.

WBOC Still Won't Call It A Tornado 8-8-17

That being said, let's take a poll on this matter then.

Do you believe Salisbury experienced a tornado after all the evidence we provided yesterday?

Improper Display Of The American Flag At Salisbury McDonald's

The McDonald's at 2709 North Salisbury Blvd. in Salisbury has the American flag inverted. The upper clasp is broken, rendering the flag to fly upside down. I went and informed the staff on 9 August, they said they would fix it. I went by again on 10 August and its still being displayed improperly. Today I spoke with the shift manager Crystal. She was aware of the flag situation but seemed unconcerned of the severity of the issue. I informed her that if it cannot be displayed properly it should be lowered and removed properly. Her response was that she would have to call the general manager and get permission. I asked if I could lower it and stow it properly, she said no. The staff was in bewilderment as I informed the manager of proper use and display of the American flag. No one seemed concerned at all, just concerned with the next order. Sad times in hometown Salisbury!

Chelsea Manning touts Vogue swimsuit cover: ‘This is what freedom looks like’

Chelsea Manning took to social media on Thursday to celebrate Vogue magazine’s September issue, which features the transgender activist in a one-piece swimsuit.

The ex-soldier formerly known as Private First Class Bradley Manning was released from a federal prison in May because of a commutation of sentence by former President Obama. That freedom — the result of Mr. Obama’s decision to end a 35-year prison sentence for espionage after just seven years — is on full display in a photo taken by Annie Leibovitz for the lifestyle magazine’s latest publication.

“Guess this is what freedom looks like,” the 29-year-old said to 280,000 followers on Twitter and another 63,000 on Instagram.

Hillary Clinton Considering Becoming a Methodist Preacher

Having failed to win the White House in November and with a new book on the way, Hillary Clinton is reportedly looking at turning to a more publicly religious role. Her pastor is saying she wants to get into preaching.

According to The Atlantic, Clinton told her longtime pastor Bill Shillady, at a recent photo shoot for his new book, that she wants to preach — something that the outlet says has always been a dream for her.

This comes on the back of a report that Clinton told an editor in 1994 that she thought “all the time” about becoming a minister. Per the Atlantic:

Last fall, the former Newsweek editor Kenneth Woodward revealed that Clinton told him in 1994 that she thought “all the time” about becoming an ordained Methodist minister. She asked him not to write about it, though: “It will make me seem much too pious.” The incident perfectly captures Clinton’s long campaign to modulate—and sometimes obscure—expressions of her faith.

Boy Mayor Jake Day Makes An Ass Out Of Himself: UPDATE

This just in: Boy Mayer Day reporting that there is "nothing to see here" and that there was no tornado in Salisbury.

Don't believe the pictures you see on rogue news blogs. - Jake Day

A Viewer Writes: Above the Law

Hi Joe,

I don’t know if this is worth of the blog spot, but today, my son and his girlfriend picked up my special needs 2yr old granddaughter from my house. As they were driving down the road, 2 houses away from my house, a Silver Silverado backed out of a driveway right in front of them causing my son to have to slam on his brakes to stop. This guy then pulled forward about 20 feet and slammed on his brakes again, no signal, my son again had to swerve and slam on his brakes. The truck parked on the lawn of the house he was going to.

This person in the Silverado got out of his truck walked past my sons car and walked away

My son called out the window, didn't you see me? you pulled out in front of me and then slammed on your brakes. I have my daughter in the car. You walk past me here and don't even look or acknowledge what you did while I am on the road close to your truck? Did you look? The man gave my son the finger and told him to get lost. My son's girlfriend said you could have killed us and our daughter. The man said "you have no right to talk to me like that and beside, you were speeding, I saw you." So this guy saw my son coming when he pulled out of our driveway 2 houses away, with a car with manual transmission, but this guy claims my son was speeding, he SAW him, and pulled out in front of him deliberately, moved forward 20 feet and deliberately slammed on his brakes again. Then after my son just wanted to ask this guy if he saw him and why did he do that and let him know that his special needs child was in the car and that could have seriously injured them and her if he was unable to stop,. Then this man claimed he was going to beat the shit out of him and came up to the car and said he was going to fuck him up and started yelling at him to get out. Then he walked around to the drivers side and said get out that he was going to fuck him (my son) up. This went on long enough for my son's girlfriend to call us and we got there and saw the threats being made. This man even said, there is a state trouper living right there, go ahead and get him.

THIS HAPPENED AT COUNCILMAN DAVIS’S HOUSE. There were cars and trucks all over the road and parked in his yard. This man felt he was above the law and could beat the shit out of my son because he was at councilman Davis’s house and obviously, councilman Davis knew the State trouper that lived behind him. So this guy thought he could get away with beating my son.

I feel this is unacceptable behavior. Just because you are on a councilman’s front lawn? With my 2 year old special needs child in the back seat who could have been killed if my son wasn’t able to stop?

This jerk gets out and starts screaming at my son long enough for our family member to come and still see it happening?? WHERE WAS CONCILMAN DAVIS???? Does he condone this? Does he think anyone on his property can do whatever they want and he will get them off??

Jamie Dykes To Announce She'll Be Running For Wicomico County States Attorney Today 8-11-17

I am excited to make an announcement tomorrow, Friday, August 11, at noon outside the Wicomico County Circuit Court.

WBOC's Dan Satterfield Said We Can Expect A Quarter Inch Yesterday and an Inch Of Rain Today 8-12-17

Just look out your window today and tell me, does what you are seeing look like an inch of rain? There's more flooding on the Eastern Shore then we've seen in a very long time. Even more flooding then we experienced with the tornado last week.

The Wicomico Landfill is closed today. The rain meter there goes up to 5.5 inches and has been overflowing for several hours. Just how many times is WBOC going to use the excuse, we live in a unique area.

Stay home today Folks. the roads in most areas are not passable and are on the brink of washing out in many areas throughout Wicomico County.

WHAT??? Did WBOC & The Boy Mayor Just Finally Say "Tornado Damages"

Salisbury, MD- A tornado hit Salisbury, MD., Monday afternoon and caused a lot of damage. The tornado flipped cars over, damaged buildings, and even destroyed trees.

A tree located in a median fence on South Salisbury Boulevard is now torn a part. Workers spent their early Tuesday morning hours, picking up parts from a tree that was torn a part on South Salisbury Boulevard.

Mayor Jake Day says Salisbury was prepared for the tornado and has cleanup efforts underway.

A Viewer Writes: Somerset County Health Department

Hi Joe,

Thought you would like to know there are apparently multiple investigations taking place into the Somerset County Health Department.

The Inspector General's Office has reportedly been investigating financial irregularities and competencies at the health department, including whether the administrator is even qualified to do her job.

The health officer is being investigated for harassment and intimidation of employees. Investigators from the equal opportunity office from the state were down to interview multiple employees about a week ago.

Complaints have been filed by multiple employees about issues with the health officer, the health department hiring practices, and even the safety of its vehicles.

Certainly seems like something is going on down there. May be worth looking into.

School Board Approves Bennett Middle Cafeteria Expansion

SALISBURY – The Wicomico County Board of Education this week approved an expansion to the Bennett Middle School cafeteria, two years after the facility opened in Fruitland.

The $1.4 million project will be paid for using leftover funds from the school’s original construction budget.

The expansion will address overcrowding and safety issues in the school’s cafeteria.

Paul Butler, director of communications and community outreach for Wicomico County Public Schools (WCPS), said the 1,545-square-foot addition will be built onto the existing cafeteria and will allow for 144 additional seats.

“Right now, we need an additional 60 or 70 seats,” he said, “but this will allow for future expansion for years to come.”

Butler explained school officials noticed an overcrowding issue in the cafeteria last year and said Donna Hanlin, superintendent of schools, put in a plan to address the issue.

Sex robot makers claim lonely customers are marrying their dolls

A company which makes ultra-realistic sex robots has claimed their dolls are so lifelike that people are marrying them… and they are “saving people’s lives” as a result.

The robots are becoming more sophisticated — and lifelike — by the day, as the high-tech sex toys continue to grow in popularity.

But the products are already so advanced that people have started falling in love with their sex toys — and The Daily Star reports that some have even tied the knot with their bot.

According to RealDoll, a company behind a range of startlingly lifelike sex robots, the futuristic lovers are actually saving the lives of the lonely men who wed them.

A spokesperson for the company said the most popular use for the bots is still as a purely sexual partner.

KRISH VIGNARAJAH ENTERS RACE FOR GOVERNOR OF MARYLAND

Former top aide to Michelle Obama brings fresh voice, new ideas to Governor’s race

Krish Vignarajah, a former Obama official, is entering the race for governor of Maryland today. An official campaign kick-off and announcement is scheduled for September 19, 2017.

About her decision, Vignarajah said:

“I am running for Governor because I am worried my daughter will not have the same opportunities that my mom gave me when she brought our family here when I was a baby girl. I hope Marylanders will agree the best man for the job is a woman.”

“It was not long ago that Maryland was a beacon of hope, opportunity, innovation, and courage. We led the nation in school performance, job creation, and conservation. But today too many of the students who can least afford to be left behind have been forgotten altogether. Too many workers have been left out. And our precious Chesapeake Bay faces its greatest risks in decades. A deficit in leadership from the Governor could not come at a worse time.”

“I am running for Governor because Maryland must lead again. As Governor, I will focus on what matters most—improving schools, increasing wages, reducing crime, treating drug addiction, alleviating traffic, investing in infrastructure, and protecting our sacred environment. To accomplish all this, we need a new generation of leadership that will make progress at home, while standing up to a White House that threatens the very values that unite and define us.”
