Heckler shouts 'Why did you lie?' at Elizabeth Warren during Atlanta suburb speech

A protester disrupted Sen. Elizabeth Warren's campaign event in a suburb of Atlanta on Saturday, appearing to call out the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate for her past claims of Native American ancestry.

As Warren addressed the crowd in Gwinnett County, a man shouted, "Why did you lie?"

"Hold on. We'll get to lots of policy, I promise. OK?" Warren said, adding, "Be easy. Be easy."

Trump should ‘just say no’ to China trade deal

Many signs point to a trade deal of sorts with China coming together. Top U.S. negotiators left Beijing on Friday without an agreement but both sides claimed progress and announced they will meet again next week in Washington. Wall Street cheered the news.

But there is still ample reason to be skeptical that China is serious about reform.

The talks are the latest product of pressure President Trump has applied to China since taking office. Last March, his top trade representative found that China systematically steals U.S. technology through unfair business practices and theft. That wasn’t news to anyone who follows trade or China, but, as an official act, it marked a fundamental turning point in history where Washington would no longer pretend China was just a benign competitor.

Teachers Want A 12 Percent Raise In A California School District That Went Into A Financial Crisis In 2017

An Oakland, California, teachers’ union announced Saturday that a strike will begin on Feb. 21 after failing to reach an agreement with the school district over increased pay and smaller class sizes.

Oakland Educators Association (OEA) said teachers were seeking a 12 percent raise over three years to help keep educators in the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), according to a Saturday press statement.

“We agree that our teachers deserve to be paid more,” OUSD spokesman John Sasaki said, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday. “It’s just a matter of how much can we pay, given our financial reality.”

The district has suffered from financial woes for awhile, however. California loaned OUSD $100 million in emergency funds — the largest at the time — after gathering a $37 million deficit in 2003. The district managed to get into a $30 million deficit in 2017, according to the Chronicle.

Empire star Jussie Smollett allegedly REHEARSED hoax attack with two Nigerian brothers

A grand jury is slated to hear the Jussie Smollett case next week, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation into the Empire actor's alleged hoax attack.

Chicago police insiders told TMZ that authorities are keeping a close eye on two Nigerian brothers, who were arrested and questioned about the attack before being released on Friday, to make sure that Smollett doesn't try to contact them.

Investigators have said they believe Smollett may have paid Empire extras Abimbola 'Abel' and Olabinjo 'Ola' Osundairo $3,500 to assault him in an orchestrated, rehearsed attack on January 29.

Sources say Smollett initially agreed to sign complaints against his assailants, but declined to do so once he heard that Abel and Ola were the men in custody because he knew them and felt bad for them.

Mexico deports MS-13 gang members found in caravan near Texas border

Mexican officials say MS-13 gang members from El Salvador infiltrated a group of migrants that traveled in a caravan from Central America to the country's border with Texas.

Miguel Riquelme, governor of Mexico's Coahuila state, said Mara Salvatrucha members were hiding in the group of around 1,600 migrants staying at a federally operated facility in Piedras Negras, Cohauila, and were recently identified by government officials.

"We have data that there are agitators inside the shelter, that there are members of the caravan who are provoking others, some of them belong to the Mara Salvatrucha , some others who bring criminal records in their country and what we have been doing is deporting them directly with Migration," Riquelme told local reporters, according to an English language translation.

At least twice this past week, a few dozen people violently tried to break out of the heavily guarded facility and fought federal police.

Andrew McCabe: Rod Rosenstein Was ‘Absolutely Serious’ About Wearing A Wire In Trump Meeting

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe claimed in an interview that aired Sunday that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was “absolutely serious” about wearing a wire during White House meetings with President Donald Trump.

“The deputy attorney general offered to wear a wire into the White House,” McCabe said in an interview with “60 Minutes.”

“Now, he was not joking. He was absolutely serious. And in fact, he brought it up in the next meeting we had,” added McCabe.

McCabe, who was fired on March 16, 2018, also claimed Rosenstein expressed confidence he could successfully record Trump at the White House.

Montage: Watch the Media Uncritically Accept Another Outlandish ‘Hate Crime’

‘This is America in 2019’

When TMZ first reported that actor Jussie Smollett was the victim of a vicious hate crime, it sounded almost impossible to believe.

Upon leaving a Chicago Subway sandwich shop circa 2 AM one sub-zero night in late January, two masked men recognized him as the openly gay black actor starring in Fox’s ‘Empire,’ hurled racist and homophobic slurs at him, beat him to the point of breaking his ribs, doused him with bleach, tied a noose around his neck, before pronouncing “This is MAGA Country!” and fleeing.

Making such astonishing claims, the national media owed it to their viewers to give this story the circumspect coverage responsible journalism demands.

If only.

Instead the major media used their platform to uncritically parrot TMZ’s original report, even adding new details along the way (such as that the attackers wore “Make America Great Again” hats). This vicious hate crime, they said, painted a disturbing picture of America in 2019.

As Smollett’s claims have unraveled over the intervening weeks, it’s worth revisiting how the story was originally covered.

Check out the montage above to for a quick refresher.

FLASHBACK: Democrats Called Jussie Smollett Attack ‘Lynching’; NAACP Blamed Trump

Leading Democrat candidates for the presidency in 2020 called last month’s reported attack on Jussie Smollett an “attempted modern day lynching,” and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) blamed President Donald Trump.

But reports began to emerge this week from a variety of mainstream media outlets that Chicago police believe Smollett may have paid two men to stage the attack.

At the very least, what is now known is that early reports by Smollett and his representatives were likely false, including claims the assailants were white, and that they were Trump supporters.

At the time, NAACP President Derrick Johnson linked Trump to the alleged crime, saying the “rise in hate crimes is directly linked to President Donald J. Trump’s racist and xenophobic rhetoric.”

ALERT - ESVA & ESMD PEOPLE: this happened 15 minutes ago.

Coming back from Salisbury I stopped at Goose Creek in Princess Anne where when I was pumping gas, a white SUV hybrid, with a guy driving, and guy in back seat were stalking some college aged girls getting gas.

They didn't see me standing there watching them, so I walked up and stuck my head in the window and asked-"can I help you". Startled, the man pulled off a ring and asked me if I would buy gold from him. I looked at him saying "right" - that's not what you're doing! And they sped off.

I warned the girls who were oblivious. I told the store clerk who said this is the 3rd time in about 8 months someone was lurking for a victim to abduct.

Utah mailman, 91, retires with perfect record after 69 years on job

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stayed this Utah courier from the swift completion of his appointed rounds.

Jack Lund, 91, of Richfield, retired from the U.S. Postal Service after a perfect 69 years on the job. He began his storied career in 1949 when he was 21 years old.

“Nobody has ever accused me of being smart, and I didn’t know you had to quit when you are 65, and I have enjoyed driving the truck, so it is what I wanted to do all my life, and I have enjoyed driving the truck,” Lund told KSL-TV.

Lund, a dedicated postman, never mailed it in. His fellow employees described him as the whole package -- reliable and always delivering despite poor weather or car trouble -- ABC 4 Newsreported.

“I was headed for Phoenix one day and there was four feet of snow on the mountain south of Panguitch and the highway patrolman told me I couldn’t go, and I said, ‘This is a mail truck and you can’t stop me unless it’s impossible.’ And I fooled him, I guess, because he let me go,” Lund recalled.

Last week, Lund decided it was finally time to retire.

Mississippi Legislature Passes Fetal Heartbeat Bill; Governor To Sign

On Wednesday, the Mississippi state Senate and House of Representatives passed bills to prohibit abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detectable (between six and seven weeks gestation).

While the bills offer "life of the mother" exceptions, they do not make exceptions for infants conceived in rape or incest. An amendment to provide such an exception was proposed during debate, but it was ultimately defeated.

On the day the bills passed, Republican Governor Phil Bryant sent out a tweet saying that he intends to sign the legislation into law:

Trump as Hercules Cleaning Out the Augean Stables

Last week in Viareggio, Italy, the citizens paraded with a huge float depicting President Trump as Hercules. Looking at his many accomplishments against countless enemies and political opponents, the depiction was not inapt. Like Hercules, he defeated the Queen of the Amazons, and this week, he's going on to clean out the Augean Stables. In this respect, he's aided by the utter stupidity of his opponents.

A. The Green New Deal

For decades now, under the guise of environmental protection, the far left has tied down America's economy. It's been largely gradual, hidden in fancy language and supported by those little harmed by these restrictions. Last week, freshman congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whose previous experience was bartending, and Senator Ed Markey, whose commercial experience before entering the political ring was driving an ice cream truck, proposed a Green New Deal.

Without reading it, all or most (I can't keep track of all of them) of the announced Democrat presidential candidates endorsed it, to their subsequent embarrassment when the details they hadn't bothered to read became known. Ocasio-Cortez kindly provided a FAQ cheat sheet, which revealed how insane the plan was. When the details were known, she withdrew it, offering up various versions of why it wasn't the real Cliff's Notes of the deal.

In any event, taking advantage of the opportunity to put the Democrats to the test, Senator majority leader Mitch McConnell announced he'd bring the resolution to the Senate floor for a vote, at which time cosponsor Ed Markey accused McConnell of "sabotage" and trying to "silence" voters.

Tom Maguire had fun with the charge:

French Schools Replace "Mother" And "Father" With "Parent 1" And "Parent 2"

In the latest example of political correctness run amok in Europe, the French National Assembly this week passed an education reform bill which included a controversial amendment to replace all instances of the words 'mother' and 'father' on official school-related paperwork with the 'gender neutral' phrases "Parent 1" and "Parent 2".

The bill, which was championed by President Emmanuel Macron's party, will also make school attendance mandatory for all three-year-olds.

"This amendment aims to root in law children's family diversity in administrative forms submitted in school," said REM minister Valérie Petit.

"We have families who find themselves faced with tick boxes stuck in rather old-fashioned social and family models. For us, this article is a measurement of social equality."

While the changes were made ostensibly to stop discrimination against same-sex parents, according to the Christian Post, the measure has been attacked by conservatives and liberals alike. Even the French education minister opposed the amendment.

In a sign of just how fraught with controversy this provision has become, even the president of the French association for same-sex parents has criticized the decision, arguing that it could create a "parental hierarchy".

However, it is not just conservatives who question the effectiveness of the new legislation. Alexandre Urwicz president of the AFDH, the French association for same sex parents, worries that the legislation could create a “parental hierarchy."

"Who is ‘parent number 1’ and who is ‘parent number 2’?" he asks, adding that perhaps the less controversial "father, mother and legal representative," be used instead.

Conservatives denounced the suggestion that the terms "mother" and "father" are old fashioned, and one lawmaker pointed out that in modern France, more than 95% of civil unions are between same-sex couples, RT reported.

“When I hear people say this is an old-fashioned model, I would remind people that today among unions celebrated, civil or marital, some 95 per cent are man-woman couples,” Conservative MP Xavier Breton said of the latest amendment, while fellow Conservative Fabien Di Filippo denounced the move as a “frightening ideology."

Mitch McConnell could save the border wall

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., could soon play a key role in protecting the proposed border wall by refusing to hold a vote on a measure aimed at nullifying Trump's national emergency declaration.

Congress is poised to send Trump a resolution in the coming weeks that rescinds the national emergency Trump issued on Friday to justify shifting billions of dollars in federal funds for border wall construction.

If the House and Senate pass that resolution, Trump would likely veto it, after which the House and Senate could try to override that veto. But even if the Democrat-led House overrode Trump's veto, McConnell has the power to ignore that House vote and refuse to reconsider it at all.

“Nothing in the Constitution requires that either chamber vote directly on the question of re-passing a vetoed bill,” the Congressional Research Service reported in 2015, referring to a vote to override a veto. “If either chamber fails to vote on the question, then the measure dies.”

Widespread National Food Stamp Fraud Could Be as High as $4.7 Billion

According to a new report produced by the Government and Accountability Office (GAO), at least $1 billion in food stamp benefits are "trafficked annually," meaning they are fraudulently used. The extent of the fraud is uncertain, the GAO warns, estimating the abuse of the program could be as high as $4.7 billion.

About 20 million lower-income households receive benefits from the $64 billion Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as food stamps, to buy food. But GAO found that instead of being used for food, many stores are defrauding the program by "selling" cash instead of food.

"For example, a store might give a person $50 in exchange for $100 in benefits – then pocket the difference," GAO explains.

The Food Nutrition Service (FNS) within the U.S. Department of Agriculture oversees SNAP and is responsible for authorizing and overseeing retailers.

The fraud, known as "retailer trafficking," costs taxpayers at least $1 billion. However, the real cost could be "anywhere from $960 million to $4.7 billion," the GAO adds.

The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), a Washington, D.C.-based think tank advocating reform, launched a "Stop the Scam initiative" to raise awareness of the widespread problem.

"Welfare fraud is one of the biggest untold stories of the last decade, robbing resources from the truly needy and eroding public trust in the integrity of our welfare programs," Sam Adolphsen, vice president of executive affairs at FGA, said in a statement.

Not pregnant? No problem. Abortion clinic sold abortions to non-pregnant women

February 15, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – It’s no secret that abortion is a profitable business. But according to one former abortion clinic manager, some abortion clinics are so driven by profit that they will lie to women, convincing them they're pregnant when they’re not simply in order to close the “sale” and maximize profit.

Carol Everett, who managed multiple abortion clinics over a space of several years before converting to the pro-life position in 1983, recently told Jonathon van Maren on The Van Maren Show, LifeSite's new weekly podcast, how her staff and abortionists would trick non-pregnant women into getting abortions.

If a woman’s pregnancy test came back negative, the staff would “take her back to see what she knows about sonograms.”

Since ultrasounds can be hard to interpret, especially early in pregnancy, the sonographer can always “find a blob” in the woman’s abdomen. “She doesn't know what an early pregnancy looks like,” said Everett.

Two Trump Cabinet Officials Were "Ready To Support" 25th Amendment 'Coup' As Rosenstein Tallied Votes

Two Trump Cabinet officials were "ready to support" a DOJ scheme to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump, according to Bloomberg and Fox News, citing closed-door testimony from the FBI's former top lawyer, James Baker - who said that the claim came from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

The testimony was delivered last fall to the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees. Fox News has confirmed portions of the transcript. It provides additional insight into discussions that have returned to the spotlight in Washington as fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe revisits the matter during interviews promoting his forthcoming book. -Fox News

While Baker did not identify the two Cabinet officials, he says that McCabe and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page approached him to relay their conversations with Rosenstein, including their discussions of the 25th Amendment scheme.
"I was being told by some combination of Andy McCabe and Lisa Page, that, in a conversation with the Deputy Attorney General, he had stated that he -- this was what was related to me -- that he had at least two members of the president’s Cabinet who were ready to support, I guess you would call it, an action under the 25th Amendment," Baker told the Congressional committees.

The 25th Amendment allows for the removal of a sitting president from office through various mechanisms - including the majority of a president's Cabinet agreeing that the commander-in-chief is incapable of performing his duties.

Rosenstein - who is slated to leave the Justice Department in the near future, has denied the claims.

Business Groups Come Together to Urge Changes to Minimum Wage Bill

Businesses from across the state came together in Springfield on Monday to urge the Illinois lawmakers to amend a proposed minimum wage increase to allow for lower pay outside the city of Chicago.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker last week urged the House to pass the Senate’s blanket $15 minimum wage by 2025 without any changes. Supporters of the minimum wage say it has taken too long for an increase to the minimum wage and that going to $15 an hour by 2025 will raise people out of poverty, add to the state’s tax rolls and increase economic activity.

The Senate along party lines passed Senate Bill 1 that would have six increases over five years starting with the first increase Jan. 1, 2020, to $9.25 from the current $8.25. The wage would be $15 per hour by 2025.

Manufacturer Don Welge of Gilster-Mary Lee said if employee costs continue to go up in Illinois, he’ll be forced to continue to invest outside the state, where he has other operations and he said it’s cheaper to hire.

State of the Union Destroys Trump is Racist Lie

Watching President Trump’s State of the Union speech, I thought, “This destroys Democrats’, Hollywood’s, and fake news media’s lie that Trump is racist.” And yet, I knew that these leftists would continue their evil, divisive Trump-is-racist deception.

With the TV cameras on Alice Johnson, a tearful black woman, Trump said he was deeply moved by her story. In 1997, Alice was sentenced to life in prison as a first-time nonviolent drug offender. Over the next 22 years, Alice became a prison minister. She greatly impacted many lives in prison and beyond, inspiring others to make better choices.

Trump said, “Alice’s story underscores the disparity and unfairness that can exist in criminal sentencing and the need to remedy this total injustice.” “In June, I commuted Alice’s sentence. When I saw Alice’s beautiful family greet her at the prison gate hugging and kissing, crying and laughing, I knew I did something right.”

Then Trump announced that he signed the First Step Act into law. This new law gives nonviolent offenders the chance to re-enter society as productive, law-abiding citizens. Trump introduced Matthew Charles. In 1996, 30-year-old Matthew was sentenced to 35 years in prison for drug-related offenses. Over 20 years, Matthew completed 30 Bible studies, became a law clerk, and mentored many of his fellow inmates. Matthew Charles, a black man, is the first person released under Trump’s First Step Act.

Folks, how in the world can leftists continue to effectively falsely brand Trump a racist?

Trump’s strong commitment to the pro-life movement is more glaring proof that he is not racist.

Senate panel to investigate meetings between Russians, Obama officials

The Senate Finance Committee is probing meetings reportedly held in 2015 between two of former President Barack Obama’s top economic officials and Maria Butina, a Russian national who later pleaded guilty to conspiring to covertly influence U.S. foreign policy, the panel said Friday.

Committee leadership published letters sent to the current heads of the U.S. Treasury Department and Federal Reserve raising concerns over reports that Ms. Butina, a 30-year-old gun-rights activist, met with officials from the agencies during the Obama administration.

With earbuds wired to my phone, I listen to national Christian broadcasts during my daily walk. Back to back, I heard two black pastors with large congregations. It was stunning hearing how clueless both men were regarding the truth of various political issues.

Both pastors parroted Democrats' and fake news media's lies in their sermons. Between the two, they rebuked Republicans for hatefully wanting to build a wall to “keep people out”. They blamed Republicans for foolishly shutting down the government, which caused 800,000 employees to suffer unpaid. They scolded Republicans for cruelly separating children from their parents. Each allegation against Republicans was a misrepresentation of the truth; rooted in Democrats' and fake news media's long-time lie that Republicans are racist and mean.

The Border Wall. Americans welcome immigrants who enter our country legally. The border wall is to stop the invasion of illegals which includes sex traffickers, drug dealers and violent criminals. Stats confirm that walls are effective. Hypocritically, Democrats who preach that building a wall to keep Americans safe is racist and mean live in highly secured communities behind walls.

The Government Shutdown. In essence, Democrats shutdown the government by refusing to sign a budget with a piddly $5 billion towards the border wall. Democrats claim the wall, at a cost of $25 billion, is too expensive. Meanwhile, we are spending $135 billion annually for freebies to illegals. Democrats want the free flow of unskilled needy illegals invading our country to become new Democrat voters. The dirty little secret is illegal aliens are already voting for Democrats in our elections.

Separating Children. Democrats authored the law separating children from their parents at the border. Trump said he hates the law. Fake news and Democrats are using this Democrat law to portray Trump as a villain. Meanwhile, Democrats and fake news elevate to sainthood irresponsible foreign parents who send their children unaccompanied to make the extremely dangerous journey to America. Border agents report 12-year-old illegal alien girls armed with birth control, Plan B pills, due to the high probability of being raped along the way. What kind of parents subject their children to such horrors?

2020 Dems Silent on Data Showing Voters Oppose Their Abortion Stance

The Democrat Party's leading presidential contenders are silent on data showing an overwhelming majority of voters oppose their stance on abortion.

A poll released by Susan B. Anthony List on Wednesday found that 77 percent of likely general election voters favor legislation protecting children born through failed abortions and 62 percent oppose efforts to expand late-term abortions. The results closely mirror those previously recorded by Gallup showing only 28 percent of Americans think abortion should be legal during the second trimester and only 13 percent support it during the third trimester.

Despite these numbers, the Democrat presidential contenders continue to support the Women's Health Protection Act. If implemented, the bill would invalidate any laws that "single out abortion providers with medically unnecessary requirements and restrictions, do not promote women's health or safety, and limit access to abortion services," according to the liberal Center for Reproductive Rights.

Effectively it would strike down prohibitions on abortion after 20 weeks, regulations protecting individuals or institutions from being forced to perform abortions, and laws preventing abortion on the basis of sex, among others.

Elizabeth Warren endorses use of 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., a 2020 candidate for president, on Sunday endorsed the idea of President Trump's team invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office if the circumstances call for it.

“My point here is that if they believe that Donald Trump cannot fulfill the obligations of his office, then they have a constitutional responsibility to invoke the 25th Amendment,” Warrensaid during a press conference following a campaign rally in Las Vegas. “Their loyalty under law is not to him personally. It is to the Constitution of the United States and to the people of United States.”

Warren, a frequent target of Trump's due to her dubious claims to Native American ancestry, is increasingly defining herself as the 2020 candidate who uses provocative comments to counter the president's bellicose brand of rhetoric. For instance, Warren told an Iowa crowd last week Trump "may not even be a free person" by the time the 2020 election comes around.

Republican House Leader Has Some ‘Serious Questions’ For Adam Schiff

Bipartisan House and Senate Intelligence Committee investigations found no “direct evidence” that President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia to steal the election.

The senate committee interviewed more than 200 witnesses and reviewed more than 300,000 documents before reaching its conclusion. Since then, senate Democrats have tried to poke holes in the claims by pointing out that “direct evidence” is rare and given the same weight has circumstantial evidence. House Democrats, led by new committee chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA), have vowed to continue investigating anything they can to prove Trump has committed a crime – even using congressional authority to subpoena Trump’s tax returns.

In response to Schiff’s determination to find a crime, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) released a serious of questions for his Democrat colleague.

“Chairman Schiff stated in March of 2017, he had evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia and that his ‘evidence’ was more than circumstantial but not quite direct. To date Chairman Schiff has produced no evidence to support that claim,” the Republican leader posted on his blog.

Schiff has come under scrutiny after it was reported that he had a 'chance' encounter with Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson last summer during the Aspen Security Forum.

ThisPersonDoesNotExist.com uses AI to generate endless fake faces

The ability of AI to generate fake visuals is not yet mainstream knowledge, but a new website — ThisPersonDoesNotExist.com — offers a quick and persuasive education.

The site is the creation of Philip Wang, a software engineer at Uber, and uses research released last year by chip designer Nvidia to create an endless stream of fake portraits. The algorithm behind it is trained on a huge dataset of real images, then uses a type of neural network known as a generative adversarial network (or GAN) to fabricate new examples.

“Each time you refresh the site, the network will generate a new facial image from scratch,” wrote Wang in a Facebook post. He added in a statement to Motherboard: “Most people do not understand how good AIs will be at synthesizing images in the future.”

The underlying AI framework powering the site was originally invented by a researcher named Ian Goodfellow. Nvidia’s take on the algorithm, named StyleGAN, was made open source recently and has proven to be incredibly flexible. Although this version of the model is trained to generate human faces, it can, in theory, mimic any source.

Vatican Defrocks Former Cardinal McCarrick, Finds Him Guilty Of Sex Abuse

Updated at 10:14 a.m. ET

The Vatican has defrocked former cardinal Theodore McCarrick, it said Saturday, making him the highest-ranking church official to date to be expelled from the priesthood for sex abuse.

A church tribunal found McCarrick guilty of "solicitation in the Sacrament of Confession and sins against the Sixth Commandment with minors and with adults, with the aggravating factor of the abuse of power," the Vatican said. Pope Francis has approved the ruling and there is no possibility of appeal, the statement said.

Religious Freedom Activists Call for U.S. Special Envoy in Nigeria

ISIS-affiliate Boko Haram continues to terrorize the country

Nigerians go to the polls on Saturday to choose their next president in an election some Christian observers call a "matter of life and death," as ongoing violence prompts activists to call for the appointment of a U.S. special envoy to the country.

One fourth of the nation's 36 states have been devastated by radical Muslim attacks that have claimed up to 37,000 lives during the last 10 years, according to the Council on Foreign Relations. Terrorists belonging to the ISIS-affiliated Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast or radical Muslim militants of the Fulani tribes, who are attacking towns and cities in Nigeria's northwestern states, make up slightly more than half of the dead. The rest are innocent victims and Nigerian soldiers and police. Close to two million Nigerians have sought shelter in refugee camps.

Unknown gunmen killed 66 persons on the eve of presidential and parliamentary elections, according to Vanguard News Nigeria.

I HAD IT ALL

I talked with a homeless man this morning and asked him how he ended up this way.

He said, "Up until last week, I still had it all.
I had plenty to eat, my clothes were washed and pressed,
I had a roof over my head, I had HDTV and Internet, and I went to the gym, the pool, and the library.

I was working on my MBA on-line. I had no bills and no debt. I even had full medical coverage.

I felt sorry for him, so I asked, "What happened? Drugs? Alcohol? Divorce?"

"Oh no, nothing like that," he said. "No, no....

"I was paroled".
