Blizzard Conditions - stay off roads

I had to get my kids from my parents house from Willards and get back home eastbound. Here's a few pics from Willards to the Berlin area. Many roads have snowdrifts on the roadway, including Rt. 5o. Please stay off the road...nothing's open anyway!

My son has to go to work at 11pm for a security company. He called and ask if he was still suppose to report to work tonight because of the state of emergency that has been placed in effect. They told him yes, you dont show up you dont have a job. If he gets stopped tonight tonight on the way in to work, will he get a ticket?

good question, 3:48. i wish i had an answer for you. you and your son should review the priorities today....or maybe that employer should review his!

some can't even get out of their driveways due to snow. and...once they get out, their cars are getting stuck trying to get back in, especially if you don't have four wheel drive.

My wife went to work at 7:00 this morning and no-one at the senior facility can get out or move so she will be there working through the night and day until 3:30 tommorow afternoon. That means I get no foot & back massage, no bath with her washing me, no food brought to my chair, no well you know. Whats a man to do.

Thank you Sunnyinoc.......
My son is responsible and will go to work. I just dont want to see him get a ticket.

If he is not deemed essential personnel then the company could fire him, however, your son could fight it because the company would be expecting someone to violate the law in order to fulfill a menial job detail! So if he does go and gets a ticket he could provide the ticket to the business to be paid or if he is injured while being threatened with the loss of his job the company could very well be held responsible for demanding someone intentionally break the law.
On the other hand if he doesn't go and they do fire him, get a lawyer it isn't as if this weather is an isolated to one area it is the entire state for goodness sake!

If your son gets a ticket for driving to work where he was not granted leave the employer will have to cover the cost plain and simple or is the employers job to pick up their employees

Not for long Heather.

It's an at-will state so he can get fired for anything. It may be due to this storm directly, or because he didn't pick up a piece of trash 6 months later.

He needs to make a decision - is the chance of serious injury and/or damage worth his job?

He should also reference his employee manual. There may be something in there that gives him some protection.

But as a security guard, that might be deemed essential. So he probably would get a pass by the authorities.

Don't go. He probly makes crap any way. They won't fire him.

Your an idiot for taking the kids on the road in blizzard conditions! What were you thinking?!

Anonymous said...

It's a Phase III Emergency now. If you do not have a registered ID card provided by the state enrolling you as a "Critical Employee," it is illegal to be driving on the road at this time.

Sounds like if your son gets fired for failing the break the law, DLLR would be really interested in helping him out.

"at will" employment means just that.In Maryland you can be fired just because the boss doesnt like you, uness of course you happen to be nonwhite, gay,or handicapped.Unless you fit discrimination criteria, they can fire you for anything and get away with it.

4:44, wrong. You may return home from employment. And heather, NO one may physically prevent you from leaving. This is still America, sorta.

5:53pm you are so right!

Can't some be charged w/false imprisonment for not letting them go home and keeping them against their will? Or, reckless endangerment?
