Democrats In Peril After Overplaying ‘War On Women’ Strategy In Key Swing State

DENVER — The Democrats’ “war on women” strategy may resonate with liberals, but it’s losing ground with crucial female swing voters in Colorado, said a poll released this week.

A whopping 77 percent of women voters surveyed agree that they “clearly see through the so-called Democrat ‘War on Women’ messaging strategy,” according to Magellan Strategies in Louisville, Colo.

The poll also found that 67 percent of those surveyed “do not fear a government bureaucrat taking birth control away from them, but what they fear are politicians using the issue of ‘access to birth control’ as a political tactic to scare them into voting a certain way.’”

The survey was conducted on behalf of the right-leaning Colorado Women’s Alliance, but those polled weren’t dedicated Republicans. The June 3-4 poll contacted 500 women identified as registered independents, Republican-leaning independents, and “soft” Republican voters.

HOMELAND SECURITY REPORT CONFIRMS DISEASES SPREADING AT BORDER FACILITIES

The Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General released a memo on Thursday confirming the problem of communicable diseases that are being spread throughout detention centers.

The OIG outlined a two-week report from the beginning of the month on the detention of Unaccompanied Alien Children. According to DHS IG John Roth’s memo to DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson, the IG office continues to make unannounced site visits to numerous detention centers along the southern border where Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are temporarily sheltering UACs.

The IG says they did not observe any misconduct or inappropriate conduct of DHS employees during their unannounced visits and did not receive any new complaints during their random interviews of UACs. However, the IG office stressed the problem of communicable diseases that are being spread at the detention centers.

Suspect Apprehended in “Mantrap” after Bank Heist

Newark-Troopers have arrested and charged a New Castle man after committing a bank robbery at the Citizen’s Bank in Newark earlier this afternoon.

The incident occurred on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at approximately 3:30 p.m. as a male suspect later identified as Stephen D. Dunfee-38 of New Castle, Delaware, entered the Citizen’s Bank located at 40 Chestnut Hill Plaza, Newark. Once inside Dunfee approached the 32 year old female teller and presented a demand note for money. The teller complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash. As he attempted to leave, bank personnel activated a security device known as a “Mantrap”, which remotely secures the interior and exterior doors of the bank, trapping him in the vestibule. Dunfee attempted to escape the “Mantrap” but was unsuccessful in his attempts to break out, causing damage to the doors and glass. He was taken into custody without incident by arriving Troopers. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

Dunfee was charged with Robbery Second Degree and Criminal Mischief. He was awaiting arraignment at the time of release. (2004 booking photo attached)

No surveillance photos or video available at the time of release.

Another Boat Intercepted Off The Texas Coast

The Navy intercepted a boatload of people off the Texas coast today.

This placed the Navy in an awkward position as the boat was not heading to the USA , but towards Mexico and Central America .

Another surprise finding was the people were white American retirement age seniors. Their claim was that they were trying to get to Central America or Southern Mexico as they wanted to return to the US as i ll egal immigrants. Then they would be entitled to far more benefits than they were receiving as legitimate American retirees.

It is believed the Navy gave them food, water and fuel and assisted them on their journey. We are booking on the next boat out. Let me know if you want to join us.

CIA Director John Brennan Apologizes For Search Of Senate Computers

CIA Director John O. Brennan has apologized to leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee after an agency investigation determined that its employees improperly searched computers used by committee staff to review classified files on interrogations of prisoners.

The embarrassing admission by the agency follows a dispute that erupted earlier this year when the CIA and the committee traded accusations of snooping on one another’s computer systems, prompting a public feud between Brennan and senior lawmakers.

The dispute centered on a computer system that the CIA set up at a secret office in Northern Virginia where committee aides pored over records of the agency’s use of harsh interrogation measure in secret overseas prisons established after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Is Aspirin a Wonder Drug for Cancer?

Aspirin is one of the oldest known medicines, first used by the ancient Greeks, who used a naturally occurring form of it to treat pain and fever. But the latest modern-day scientific research is also finding that standby headache remedy is proving to be something of a wonder drug that can help prevent heart attacks and even certain types of cancer.

The latest research has found that taking a low-dose aspirin for more than 10 years may lower the risk of developing pancreatic cancer by up to 60 percent. The study, by Yale University researchers, also found that even taking a daily aspirin for just three years lowered the chances of developing the deadly cancer by nearly half.

Nieca Goldberg, M.D., a cardiologist with New York University Langone Medical Center, called the new findings “exciting” and tells Newsmax Health they add to mounting evidence that the anti-inflammatory properties of the drug not only help prevent heart disease, but may ward off cancer, as well.

CREDIT CARD SCAM AFFECTS OCEAN CITY BUSINESSES AND CITIZENS

(July 31, 2014) – The Ocean City Police Department is advising citizens of a recent cyber-attack that compromised the security of numerous credit card processing companies nationwide. One of the victims of the security breach includes an out-of-state company that has contracts with numerous Ocean City businesses, primarily restaurants and bars.

Businesses that were affected were compromised from June 2 until July 9, 2014; however, those systems are now secure. The United States Secret Service is currently investigating this case.

Citizens are strongly encouraged to check your bank statement to ensure that you are not a victim of this cyber-crime scam. Any citizen that believes their information may have been compromised should contact their bank or credit card issuer immediately.

Yale's Robert Shiller: Housing Recovery Still on Shaky Ground

Sluggish home prices and sales signal a sluggish home market in general, says Nobel laureate economist Robert Shiller of Yale University.

The S&P/Case-Shiller index of home prices in 20 metropolitan areas slipped a seasonally-adjusted 0.3 percent in May from April. And the index rose 9.3 percent in the 12 months through May, the slowest pace since February 2013.

"The way these markets go, that [0.3 percent] dip could be a turning point," Shiller told CNBC.

Given recent declines in new and pending home sales, "there's some clear evidence of a weakening," he said.

NRP Launches “Don’t Get Pinched” Campaign to Catch Illegal Crabbers

The Maryland Natural Resources Police today rolled out its newest education and enforcement campaign ─ “Don’t Get Pinched” ─ to help protect the Chesapeake Bay blue crab population.

“Our slogan, ‘Don’t Get Pinched,’ is a lighthearted way of reminding people to play by the rules while crabbing because rest assured, we will do everything in our power to catch violators,” said Col George F. Johnson IV, NRP superintendent.

The campaign takes aim at those who ignore State regulations on minimum sizes, possession limits, harvest hours and crab pot registrations. Officers also will be on the lookout for recreational crabbers who keep female crabs, which is illegal in Maryland.

“We will use every enforcement tool available to us, including saturation patrols, undercover operations, night vision equipment, and the cameras and radar units of the Maritime Law Enforcement Information Network,” said Johnson.

Yes, Stocks Could Drop 50%

After meandering higher for most of the year, the stock market is now sputtering.

That's triggering chatter about a minor "correction," which many people believe is long overdue.

And maybe that's what we're at the start of, a minor correction. Or maybe this is just a blip, and the brilliant and prudent Jeremy Grantham is right that we're on the cusp of a new bubble that will take the S&P 500 up another 10% to 15% over the next year to 2,250. (As a stockholder, I sure hope so!) Or maybe we'll get both — a minor correction and a new bubble spike. Or maybe we're just in the middle years of a fantastic bull market.

I don't know. (Neither does anyone else, by the way.) I'm also not predicting a crash.

One thing I do know, though, is that stocks are extremely expensive on every valid historical measure I know of. In the past, this level of overvaluation has presaged poor long-term returns. So I'm not expecting my retirement account to do well from this level over the next seven to 10 years.

The Fed's Failure Complicates Its Endgame

To demonstrate it hasn't failed, the Fed must taper/withdraw its monetary heroin.

That the Federal Reserve's policies have failed is now so painfully evident that even the political class is awakening to this truth. Rather than re-ignite broad-based, self-sustaining economic growth, the Fed's loose-money policies (zero-interest rate policy a.k.a. ZIRP, and quantitative easing a.k.a. QE or free money for financiers), have perversely distorted the economy and widened wealth and income inequality.

After six long years of unprecedented monetary expansion and intervention--more than enough time to have succeeded in its stated purpose of restarting the real economy-- political and financial blowback is forcing the Fed to withdraw its monetary heroin.

New Emails: Lois Lerner Referred to Conservatives as '***holes' and 'TeRrorists'

(CNSNews.com) - A newly discovered email exchange from Lois Lerner's official IRS email account "directly demonstrates Ms. Lerner's deep animus towards conservatives, which she refers to as '---holes,'" House Ways and Means Committee Chair Dave Camp wrote in a letterto Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday.

In that Nov. 9, 2012 email, Lerner further suggests that conservatives will ruin the country: "So we don't need to worry about alien teRrorists (sic). It's our own crazies that will take us down," she wrote.

Camp (R-Mich.) told Holder the email "shows that Ms. Lerner's mistreatment of conservative groups was driven by her personal hostility toward conservatives."

The Greatest Evil on Earth?

Imperial Washington is truly running amuck in its insensible confrontation with Vladimir Putin. The pending round of new sanctions is a counter-productive joke. Apparently, more of Vlad’s posse will be put on double probation, thereby reducing demand for Harry Macklowe’s swell new $60 million apartment units on Park Avenue. Likewise, American exporters of high tech oilfield equipment will be shot in the foot with an embargo; and debt-saturated Russian state companies will be denied the opportunity to bury themselves even deeper in dollar debt by borrowing on the New York bond market. Some real wet noodles, these!

But it is the larger narrative that is so blatantly offensive—that is, the notion that a sovereign state is being wantonly violated by an aggressive neighbor arming “terrorists” inside its borders. Obama’s deputy national security advisor, Tony Blanken, stated that specious meme in stark form yesterday:

“Russia bears responsibility for everything that’s going on in Eastern Ukraine” and “has the ability to actually de-escalate this crisis,” Blinken said.

Farming The Bluefin Tuna, Tiger Of The Ocean, Is Not Without A Price

In a windowless laboratory in downtown Baltimore, some tiny, translucent fish larvae are swimming about in glass-walled tanks.

They are infant bluefin tuna. Scientists in this laboratory are trying to grasp what they call the holy grail of aquaculture: raising this powerful fish, so prized by sushi lovers, entirely in captivity. But the effort is fraught with challenges.

When I visited, I couldn't see the larvae at first. They look incredibly fragile and helpless, just drifting in the tanks' water currents. But they're already gobbling up microscopic marine animals, which in turn are living on algae.

"It's amazing. We cannot stop looking at them! We are here around the clock and we are looking at them, because it is so beautiful," says Yonathan Zohar, the scientist in charge of this project.

Another Travesty of Justice: Carr Brothers Given Leniency

In December of 2000, within the span of less than a week, two brothers, Reginald and Jonathan Carr, engaged in a series of crimes in Wichita that Kansans recognize as among the worst in their state’s history.

First, they abducted and robbed assistant baseball coach Andrew Schreiber. Three days later, the Carrs set their sights upon 55 year-old librarian and cellist, Ann Walenta: they shot and killed Walenta as she attempted to flee them in her automobile.

But it wasn’t until three days after thismurder that the Carrs’ campaign of evil reached its horrifying climax.

On the night of December 14, the Carrs broke into the residence of Brad Heyka, Aaron Sander, and Jason Befort. Heyka was a financial analyst, Sander a seminary student preparing for the priesthood, and Befort a high school science teacher and coach. Also in the home that evening were Heather Muller, Sander’s former girlfriend and a graduate student who also happened to work as a pre-school teacher at a local church, and a young woman named “H.G.”—a school teacher to whom Befort was about to propose and who would be the sole survivor of the grisly events that were about to unfold over the next few hours.

Governor O’Malley, Lt. Governor Brown Issue Statements on FBI Headquarters Site Evaluations

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley and Lt. Governor Anthony Brown issued the following statements after a joint panel of the General Services Administration (GSA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified sites in Greenbelt and Landover as potential locations for the new FBI Headquarters:
Statement from Governor O’Malley:
“I applaud the General Services Administration for its decision to name two Maryland sites to the short list of locations being considered for the new FBI headquarters. Today’s announcement is a positive step forward for our State and for Prince George’s County.
“Both Greenbelt Station and Landover Mall are outstanding options. Establishing the FBI headquarters at either site would provide phenomenal strategic advantages for the Bureau, catalyze sustainable development and bring more jobs and vitality to Prince George’s County and Maryland. Thanks to the dedication of our Congressional delegation, local leadership and private sector partners, Maryland has two of the strongest proposals our State has ever seen.
“Our commitment to investing in the things that work has never been stronger. We’ll continue to invest in education, to focus on innovation, and to rebuild our infrastructure. That’s how we will ensure that our children are winners in the 21st century global economy.”
Statement from Lt. Governor Brown:
Today’s important announcement highlights the great assets that Maryland and Prince George’s County can provide to the FBI: world-class universities, a highly trained workforce, a well-developed transit system, proximity to other key federal facilities, and strong partnerships between federal, state, and local government and community leaders.
Together, we remain committed to bringing the FBI headquarters to Prince George’s County because it will help grow our local economy and create job opportunities for Marylanders.

Catholic League Chief Speaks Out on Obama's Eid al-Fitr Message

Catholic League President Bill Donohue is slamming President Barack Obama for his statement commemorating the end of the Muslim Ramadan observance, saying Obama doesn't "stand with people of all faiths."

Obama's brief statement, issued earlier this week to send best wishes to Muslims during the Eid al-Fitr celebration, said that the observance reminds him and wife Michelle "of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy."

Further, Obama said he and his wife "stand with people of all faiths, here at home and around the world, to protect and advance their rights to prosper, and we welcome their commitment to giving back to their communities."

"While Eid marks the completion of Ramadan, it also celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity and reinforces the obligations that people of all faiths have to each other, especially those impacted by poverty, conflict, and disease," the president said.

Donohue wrote on the Catholic League's website that Obama does not stand with all faiths while protecting human rights.

As France Grants Asylum to Iraqi Christians, Rep. Wolf Slams ‘Silence’ in Washington |

“The silence in this town – in Washington – is deafening,” Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) said on the House floor. “Does Washington even care?”

DOJ Says Pa. State Police Discriminated Against Women Who Flunked Physical Fitness Tests

(CNSNews.com) - The Obama administration is suing the Pennsylvania State Police for requiring both men and women applying for entry-level trooper jobs to pass the same physical fitness tests.

Because more men than women pass the tests, their use is discriminatory and violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Justice Department says.

Because female applicants failed the 2003 physical fitness test and the revised 2009 test at "statistically higher rates than male applicants, female applicants were less likely to proceed through the selection process and thus less likely to be hired as entry-level troopers," DOJ stated in its lawsuit.

Gov. Mike Pence irked as Obama sends illegals to Indiana on sly

Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana is the latest politician to accuse the White House of dumping illegal minor-aged immigrants in his state absent even a courtesy notification — and he’s now penned a letter to the president asking him to send them back to their home countries.

“In Indiana last week, we learned from media reports that more than two hundred unaccompanied children had been placed by the federal government with sponsors in our state,” Mr. Pence wrote to Mr. Obama, Breitbart reported. “Only after these media reports were published did the state receive notice from the Department of Health and Human Services that in fact 245 unaccompanied children had been placed in Indiana during the period from January 1, 2014 through July 7, 2014.”

Mr. Pence also said the children should go home, for their own sake, to be reunited with their own families.

“While we feel deep compassion for these children, our country must secure its borders and provide for a legal orderly immigration process,” he went on, Breitbart reported. “Those who have crossed our border illegally should be treated humanely and with decency and respect, but they should be returned expeditiously to their home countries to be reunited with their families rather than being dispersed around the United State in sponsored placement or long-term detention facilities.”

Congress Races To Wrap Up Legislation For Veterans, Transportation On Last Day Before Summer Break

WASHINGTON (AP) - Congress is racing to wrap up legislation addressing chronic problems at the Veterans Affairs Department and a shortfall in highway money ahead of its five-week summer break. Deep divisions cast doubt on any resolution to the surge of immigrants at the border.

The institutional split of a Republican-led House and Democratic-controlled Senate has added up to inaction, especially in a midterm election year with control of the Senate at stake. In the final days before leaving Washington, lawmakers have struggled to compromise on a handful of bills to deal with the nation's pressing problems amid overwhelming partisanship.

Congress is poised to send President Barack Obama legislation revamping the VA, with a Senate vote expected Thursday. Lawmakers also are working on a path forward for highway and transit projects.

Md., Va., D.C. high on list of places taking in youths who’ve crossed the Mexican border

The Washington region’s robust Central American community has taken in a relatively large percentage of the tens of thousands of children who have been detained at the U.S.-Mexico border this year, federal statistics show.

Since January, about 4,600 children have been sent to live temporarily with family or guardians in Virginia, Maryland and the District, amid a historic wave of illegal immigration from Central America.

In all, 30,340 children from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras have been placed with sponsors nationwide while their deportation cases are pending — part of an effort to manage what has become a political crisis that includes a last-ditch effort in Congress to pass new legislation on border security before the summer recess.

Several thousand more Central American minors who have no relatives or potential guardians in the United States have been sent to shelters inside military installations and centers operated by nonprofit groups.

Solar Activity Could Cause Global Warming, New Paper Says

The impact of carbon dioxide on climate change may have been overstated, with solar activity giving a better explanation of changes in the Earth's temperature, according to Chinese scientists.

A new paper published in the Chinese Science Bulletin has found a "high correlation between solar activity and the Earth's averaged surface temperature over centuries," suggesting that climate change is intimately linked with solar cycles rather than human activity.

The paper, written in Chinese, says that there is also a "significant correlation" between solar activity over the past century and an increase in Earth's surface temperatures over the same period. The correlation between solar activity and water temperature is even higher than the correlation between solar activity and land temperature.

The paper, by Dr Zhao Xinhua and Dr Feng Xueshang, adds that a peer-reviewer said the results "provide a possible explanation for the global warming".

Local Haitians report mistreatment

The Haitian Association of Indiana hosted a town hall meeting for local Haitians Sunday, officially meeting the largest Haitian population outside of Indianapolis.

Around 50 Haitian residents, along with 30 other local residents, listened to state and federal agencies summarize their services to local Haitians.

More than 400 Haitians currently live in Washington, brought in mainly for work at the Perdue processing plant. About 190 work at the plant, according to the turkey processing plant. The Haitian workers started coming to Washington last year and have expanded rapidly. So much, some have said there is not enough local housing for them.

Jean Gerve, president of the Haitian Association of Indiana, said there has been reports of mistreatment to local Haitians.

"They have no voice, and that is the reason we are here," Gerve said.

The Statin Controversy Continues…for Good Reason!

You’ve likely heard about the importance of cholesterol and how you should get your cholesterol levels checked every year as part of your annual check-up. Blood cholesterol has been used as an indicator of health risk now for a number of decades. Ever since the link between LDL cholesterol and coronary artery disease was made, the role of cholesterol in the diet has also been highly publicized.

Remember the egg controversy? The prevailing wisdom was that you shouldn’t eat eggs because they contain cholesterol. The thought was that you should also avoid all foods high in cholesterol or saturated fat, which raises cholesterol levels.

In the meantime, scientists working for major drug companies really understood the secret to all of this. They found that most of the cholesterol measured in the blood was actually made in the liver and not directly associated to food intake.

They found an enzyme inside the liver that was necessary in the process of making LDL cholesterol and developed a drug to block this enzyme. They called this drug a statin drug, of which there are now several being used by millions of Americans to lower cholesterol.

But hold on now…is this really necessary?
