Is the PAC-14 Fiasco Coming to An End?

Today's meeting with two of the three "partners" in PAC-14 was fairly interesting.  While nothing was definitively settled, we did learn that the SU Provost has decreed that SU will not longer be a "partner".

See a copy of Dr. Jones' letter to Wicomico County

We'll have more details later.

Geln The Optimist

Here is yet another one - (about Socialism) - that just came in via email regarding tonights program with Glen Beck.

Thought you might be interested. GO HERE.

A Real Surprise in GOB Room 305

Room 305 of the Government Office Building in downtown Salisbury is where its City Council normally holds work sessions and sometimes an official meeting. Barrie Tilghman also performs there on occasion. In recent years the events conducted by Louise Smith and her predecessor as the Council’s president and also those done by Tilghman have become notorious for their brusque and curt conduct towards those who dispute or even question their position or view, especially if the speaker is Debbie Campbell or Terry Cohen.

The meeting of the PAC-14 board and City and County officials held on Friday, September 26, was a study in contrast, with John Cannon, the County Council’s president, acting as the chair. Everyone was allowed to speak without once being discourteously interrupted or told not to repeat themselves, and the atmosphere was unusually pleasant, despite a time or two when it was obvious that Barrie Tilghman’s views were falling on deaf ears and she reacted predictably. Let’s hope that she and Ms. Smith appreciate and emulate how Mr. Cannon conducts business without being heavy-handed or rude.

The meeting was a success, too, but I’ll leave that for someone else to report.

SOCIALISM LETTER

"Joe:

I took more flak from people when I wrote about Socialism in Wicomico. You posted it on SBYnews and people thought I was extreme right. I backed up the commentary by accurate facts, employment numbers, and plant closures.

Now on virtually every single television and radio channel everyone is talking about how our government has turned into a Socialist government. It's all over the radio waves and television, in fact, one guy on Channel 29 - CNBC this morning thought we should rename our County The United Socialist States of America. or USSA. He said it on National Television.

People heard and read about the warning shots first on SBYnews many many months before it became palatable for the MSM networks to report.

I guess you could say SBYnews was way 'ahead of its time' in predicting this catastrophe.

Welcome to the new America folks."

Crime Task Force Meeting

Yesterday afternoon as you may have read here or watched on the local news, the Mayors crime task force met for around 2 hours to discuss ways to begin to bring city crime under control. Jim Ireton at same time was holding another meeting and came out of the box with some great ideas im sure the mayors task force will want to implement. If this task force will actually accomplish anything time will tell. One question alot of people are wondering is why Chief Webster was not on the force yet in the audience and yet Sheriff Lewis who is already stretched super thin took time to be an active part.

Task Force of Two

Through the years many citizens have gotten up to the podium to speak to the council. They have begged and pleaded with the council to stop the nonsense and do what is right for the city. They have begged and pleaded for public safety, fire personnel, public works. They have done this in a mannerly fashion until it was proven that being nice to Barrie and her council majority didn't pan out. What they got in return for their concerns about the city in which they live is retaliation, letters from councilmembers, violations and fines from the housing and/or code compliance offices. This does not encourage civility. Joe Albero tried being nice. In the beginning he took his concerns directly to the mayors office with hopes of having drainage from the zoo and the pollution of the Wicomico river stopped in a civil manner. Barrie, as always, assured him she'd take care of it, everything would be made right. Reality is Barrie completely disregarded a tax paying citizen of this city. Instead of capping off the pipes she tried to decapitate Albero, metaphorically speaking. Joe Albero realized being nice to this woman and her administration doesn't achieve results so he took his concerns public.

Enter Ryan Ewalt. While Ryan seems to be a very nice young man, Barrie has once again singled him out for grooming as the next generation of FOB's. Mr. Ewalt takes the time to become involved in the city, this is highly commendable and I for one appreciate his attempts to become civicly involved. However, the fact remains that Ryan Ewalt stand up and speaks at a council meeting and viola' Barrie sees the light, there is crime in the city. Who does this woman think she is kidding? We, that have been here while Ryan was off in North Carolina studying have done everything but stand on our heads and spit wooden nickles to get this woman to do something right, for a change. It just proves that Barrie doesn't hear anyone except who she wants to hear and who will best serve her purpose. Barrie hasn't heard the citizens or those in the council minority. A word from the wise Ryan, WATCH YOUR BACK with that woman and any of her cohorts. They'll chew you up and spit you out. Now that the lights are on Barrie decides its time to form a task force. Ummm Barrie, the Chamber of Commerce did that a few years ago and put together a report with statistics that you didn't want released. Remember that?

Of course, in the past 10 years there has been no crime in the city, until recently when a woman was shot on Booth Street. The perps must not have known the victim, by Shanies standards this constitutes a real crime. Then again, according to her lowness, Barrie Parsons Tilghman, there has been no crime in the city because her lowness was sure of being re-elected. Barrie is using this task force for no other reason than to convince people that she cares what is going on in the city that is, until after the election. You won't convince me otherwise, I've watched her games far to long. The hookers on Route 13 & Isabella didn't just appeared when Albero showed up with his camera, they've been there for years. In Barrieland there are no gangs, hookers, drugs, murders or crime of any sort.

MSP or WCSO might want to investigate what kind of drugs this woman is on, Timothy Leary or a pharmaceutical house, might have an interest in them. Although, I've heard the abuse of alcohol can cause delusions and hallucinations. Could it be that she is a pathological liar and believes the garbage she spews and thinks everyone else will? All the excuses in the world won't cover the truth of the matter. There is definitely crime, gangs, drugs, prostitution, etc, etc, etc in Salisbury. The highest ranking criminals are sitting right in the GOB. It all starts at the top with the mayor, her administration and the council majority. While Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen take the time to do due diligence, comb through the budget, cut wasteful spending, that bunch works overtime at the destruction of this city. If you think I'm wrong, listen to audio of June 2, 2008 during a budget session. You decide who is fighting to put more police on the street, more fire and ems personnel in the Taj Mahal on Cypress Street and who is kissing Barries a$$. My question is how did these 3 blubbering idiots get as far in life as they have? Certainly it wasn't on brains. If I were a neurologist I would have declared them all brain dead and harvested their organs years ago. We've got a liar, an idiot and a lump sitting at the council table making decisions on how the taxpayers money is being spent while crime statistics increase in the 10th most dangerous city in America. Baffles the mind.

The Train Ticket

Three women and three men are traveling by train to the football game. At the station, the three men each buy a ticket and watch as the three women buy just one ticket. 'How are the three of you going to travel on only one ticket?' asks one of the men. 'Watch and learn,' answers one of the women. They all board the train. The three men take their respective seats but all three women cram into a toilet together and close the door. Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the toilet door and says, 'Ticket, please.' The door opens just a crack, and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on. The men see this happen and agree it was quite a clever idea; so, after the game, they decide to do the same thing on the return trip and save some money. When they get to the station they buy a single ticket for the return trip but see, to their astonishment, that the three women don't buy any ticket at all!! 'How are you going to travel without a ticket?' asks one perplexed man. 'Watch and learn,' answer the women. When they board the train, the three men cram themselves into a toilet, and the three women cram into a toilet just down the way. Shortly after the train is on its way, one of the women leaves her toilet and walks over to the toilet in which the men are hiding. She knocks on their door and says, 'Ticket please.' I'm still trying to figure out why men think they are smarter than women.

FEDS SIEZE WAMU - (Washington Mutual)

It's Friday again, and the Feds behavior is as predictable as 'going to the old watering hole'.

This time, the employees of WAMU knew absolutely nothing about the latest Federal siezure. And you'll notice the Feds are much more quiet than usual.

Barrack Obama 143 days 0

Just think how great a professional of any kind you could be with only 143 days of experience!!!

People want change so badly? . . . .. maybe we should lower the experience requirement for doctors, lawyers, airline pilots, etc. This would cause some change!

Obama's 143 Days of Senate Experience

Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of actual work days? Not much.

From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United States Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory Committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate.

That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.

The one single Senate committee that he headed never even met -- once.

After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan.

Think about it.......143 days -- 20.4 weeks -- 4.7 months ...

Our children spend more time in pre-school getting ready for kindergarten.

Another Question Of The Day

Is the Eastern Shore part of the South?

"I am currently living in Vermont and am constantly told that I have a "southern" accent. However, when I talk to friends of mine from Tennesee or Alabama, they insist that Maryland isn't "southern," even if the accent is "southern". I think Salisbury, and most of the Eastern Shore, is "southern" in almost everyway possible with the exception of 2 things: we don't drink sweet tea and we weren't under the control of the confederacy. I'd like to see what your viewers think, including the perspective of a New Yorker such as yourself.

Vote Early Vote Often

I was watching the news this morning and the topic that pulled my attention was voter fraud.

Voter fraud is a huge issue that is sweeping this nation, and is not isolated to small towns in rural areas.

As many of you know both my husband and myself have run for public office in Pocomoke City. We were also an integral part of the current Mayor, Mike McDermott's, Councilman Bruce Morrison, and Rob Clarke's campaign.

Although a very rewarding experience, we witnessed each and every time a political machine that is alive and well in Pocomoke City, that is simply invisible to the inexperienced average voter.

If a candidate steps to the plate in Pocomoke City and the 'Machine' does not like you, they come out in full force against you in ways you have never even thought of.

They start with courting the large black churches. They get a person (often influential) in the black church to have the candidate come and speak and tell the congregation all of the ways that they will help their community if elected.
Then they pass out absentee ballot applications to all the members.
Later that week they find out what day the applications were mailed from city hall and go door to door talking to the citizens and collecting the absentee ballots themselves. This way they are able to see who the citizen is voting for and if it is not their candidate they throw them away!
This enables them to know right from the begining exactly how many votes they will need on election day for their candidate to win.
Election Day arrives and registered voter list in hand members of the machine go and pick up people on the street(often using Church vans) and offer them a ride to the polls if they haven't voted yet then they do. If they have voted, then the member chooses a name on the list of a person who is registered but no longer lives at the address listed on the sheet.
There are dozens of multifamily homes within the city were literally over 100 people are listed on the rolls but no longer reside at a particular address.
The member then takes the individual to the polls and gives them the name and address to use.
The individual enters the polling place tells the poll worker the name and address and they get their ballot. They are not asked for an identification card unless a watcher challenges their identity.
In small town politics 25 of these votes could change an outcome of an election, heck 1 of these votes could change an outcome and it is this type of behavior that all citizens need to be vigiliant of.
1) If you are a resident in a neighborhood and know that a person has moved you can call the board of elections and tell them that a particular person no longer lives at a certain address and to take their names off of the list for that voting district.
2) If you move, be sure to change your address with the board of elections.
3) If someone comes to your home and asks you to fill out an absentee ballot, and you want to do so, go ahead, but insist on mailing it yourself. If you don't agree with them, your vote will not be cast.
4) Volunteer to work in the polls in your community, or volunteer to cull the registered voter list of names that no longer reside in your district.

The reason I have written this article is to not only inform you of the shenanigans that go on in small town politics, but as I stated earlier this a problem across the nation.

Leading this movement is an organization by the name of ACORN (Association of Community Organization for Reform Now) www.arcorn.org
This is a community activist organization that is under indictment for voter fraud in several states because of the very behavior that I have just described.
But you want to hear the clencher in this?
Guess who is the attorney of record for setting up this organization, and writing its policies?
Barrak Hussein Obahma!

Having worked in multiple campaigns I have seen first hand this type of behavior, and I hate to say that at all times this behavior has been conducted by the leaders of the black community. I have been so terribly dissapointed in the black leadership using race and ignorance to promote their personal agendas locally and now to see that these very same tactics are being used on a national level by a black man who is proclaiming to not be a racist.

We need to take a deep hard look at this. Read about this organization and read about those who have been affected both positively and negatively and draw your own conclusions. But through personal experience I am more than a little dissapointed.

Jim Ireton On Task Force Meeting

On September 23, 2008 the city of Salisbury’s current administration announced the formation of a new Crime Task Force. For residents of our city who deal with neighborhood blight that leads to more assaults, break ins, prostitution, rape, robberies, auto thefts, and ultimately murders…this action comes far to late for our community to feel like the administration has our best interests in the forefront.

Though every member of the new task force should be commended for participating it is abundantly clear that the citizens of Salisbury have already spoken on the matter of crime and what they want to see our city do.

As our substations have been shuttered. Our police budgets not funded. Our Type 1 crime rates continue far above the national average. Our taxes have gone up 25% in a decade and not a single new police position. Our voices have not been heard. How do we know this…

In every one of our neighborhoods our crime rates have not subsided. Neighborhoods where people are trying to raise families, where homeownership levels are dwindling, the approach to policing our people has not been effective. In the last month, these neighborhoods still teeter on the edge. In the:

University Neighborhood – Averaging 66 calls per week over the last month

Princeton Homes – Averaging 80 calls per week for service over the last month

The Eastside – Averaging 52 calls per week for service over the last month

The Westside – Averaging 140 calls per week for service over the last month

Church Street Neighborhood – Averaging 95 calls for service per week over the last month

Smith Street in North Camden – Averaging 52 calls per week for service over the last month

Our community has said loud and clear what it wants from city hall, and it is not another study! The Chamber of Commerce Crime Reduction Task Force, the coordinated efforts of area law enforcement to get a handle on our gang problem, the signatures on petitions to keep substations on Smith Street and Cecil Street open, the efforts of our neighborhood associations to plead with officials to for help, all of this work has been done, yet we face the establishing of yet another task force.

The crime fighting police officers in this city deserve better than what they have gotten from city hall. And when they suffer, our neighborhoods suffer. Our officers are understaffed and underpaid. In every year since 2003, our police chief has requested additional positions and pay and has gotten none from this administration in its yearly budgets.

2003 – 4 Additional Police Officers not funded

2004 – 5% increase in salaries not funded

2005 – 6% increase in salaries not funded

2006 – 4 Additional Police Officers not funded

2007 – 12 Additional Police Officers not funded

2008 – 6 Additional Police Officers not funded

Law enforcement has been telling city hall what they need, what neighborhoods want, and what could be done to bring crime rates down…city hall has not listened.

Even when we were told that a tax increase for pay parity was need the administration only funded one year of it after getting the tax increase through council. The council majority was pleaded with to comb to through the budget to make cuts to fund public safety…but that too, fell on deaf ears.

So instead of funding the number of police officers requested by the police chief, the number of police officers requested by the public at budget hearings, the number of police officers needed by neighborhoods battling crime on a daily basis – our city administration, with the help of the council majority did nothing. They have accepted virtually every annexation that comes their way – increasing the size of the city that our understaffed and underfunded police department must reach, given away hard earned tax dollars for developer reimbursements, and refused to do due diligence at budget time in order to scrape money together for officers in our neighborhoods.

This new task force is a pre-election season ploy by an administration that has refused to pay for better police protection while paying lip service to our neighborhoods greatest in need.

A good part of the solution to bringing crime rates as already been suggested…what citizens need now is immediate relief by way of reopening police substations and increased numbers in police personnel. More officers on foot patrol and increased bike patrol, comprehensive enforcement of housing codes intended to protect our neighborhoods, the need for increasing the number of jobs which sustain families, homes and neighborhoods….all of these things have been told to city hall.

While the new crime task force could eventually bring something to the table, citizens are outraged at that the administrations response to years of discussing the solutions would be to create another commission.

It is time, in this community, to hear the voices of citizens who deal with the problem of crime every day.

For those neighbors who stand up for their communities, there is no time to waste, no time for more studying. There is only a time for action.

After 14 Years Bruce Roglitz Was Fired From Giant

"Dear Friend…

Have you been looking for Bruce at Giant? Well, he was let go after 14+ years with the company. The information below explains what happened and I think you will see that a warning would have been warranted. He is trying to fight this through the union, but as of yet they have not given him his job back. We are looking for people who would be willing to write a letter to Giant about Bruce and how he may have helped to keep you shopping there. Please don’t feel pressured, but if you would like to help, just send a copy to us by email at JRoglitz@verizon.net and then also to Giant Food. We are collecting them to present at the hearing with the company. We are so thankful to have the support and caring of so many wonderful people in the community. If you have any questions, just let us know.

Thanks so much! Jennifer and Bruce Roglitz

When the new employee discount program started, I thought that you automatically received 5% off of your order when you paid by using the new employee bonus card. I was unclear on the “bank” and how it worked.

Prior to the employee discount program, I would use my telephone number for someone who did not have a bonus card. I was always told to put in any number to be sure the customer received the discounts.

When an employee came through my line and asked to use their bank to pay for their purchases, I questioned about what the bank was. He explained and used his bank money to pay for almost his entire order.

About that same time, a "read and sign" came out about using your own telephone number when someone did not have a bonus card. It was not until then that I realized that by using your own phone number and not just the new employee bonus card, it would give you more money in your employee bank. I did not use my own number from that time forward.

I feel that the employee bonus program was initiated quickly and without emphasis, until later, about not using your own phone number. Again, after the read and sign I realized my mistake and did not continue to put in my personal phone number.

I also do not feel that all workers were treated and investigated equally. I am confident that there were others making the same mistake, but who are still employed with the company.

I have worked for this company for almost 15 years. Recently, I have been called into the office on numerous occasions for incidents that I feel could have been handled much differently. Yes, the customer should always be of the utmost concern and what they feel is definitely important, but it is also important that employees feel as if the company stands behind them and understands the difficulties of today’s economy and that the stresses that people are under will cause some complaints. I feel that the last two complaints that I received were caused by stressful and less then perfect working conditions and that the company should be held accountable for the work environment that contributed to the customer’s dissatisfaction. I have no control over long wait times due to not enough cashiers…or unhappy customers because I have to wait for change or a key from the front office. I have had numerous instances where I have attempted to help customers and provide quality customer service (both on work time and off), only to have the company accuse me of being stupid and annoying. There are many, many customers who tell me that they look for me each time they come to the store. They know I will provide them with the best customer service possible. Long time, quality employees keep customers coming back to this store."

HELP

In the early 1970's the Public Broadcasting Channel (then Channel 3) aired a series of "American Sign Language" Lessons titled "Shatter Silence" which was sponsored by the Quota Club and taught by Jane Lind. These 12 1 - hour lessons were recorded on VHS tapes which are available at the Wicomico County Library. However, one of the tapes (Containing lessons 1 and 2) is missing. I believe this is a valuable resource and would like to convert the tapes to DVD, but have been unable to trace any other copies of the missing lessons. Any help finding them would be greatly appreciated. jsfurbush@comcast.net

Who IS Judge Mitchell?

Although Judge Mitchell, who was acting by special appointment to the Wicomico County Court, recently ruled against the FOP in the suit by the County government challenging the effect of the collective bargaining with binding arbitration "referendum" (actually, it was an "initiative") in 2006, local folks may not recognize his name. Judge Mitchell, a native of New York City, I understand, relocated to the Lower Shore after retiring from a lengthy career in Baltimore City, mostly as a trial judge, criminal prosecutor or public defender.

Here is his biography in the "Maryland Manual" --

Paul Williams Gets 1st Round K/O

Joe ,

Last night on Verses, World Welterweight Champion Paul Williams fought Andy Kolle, a rising star that many considered a prospect in the middleweight division. Paul, a Southpaw ,wasted no time knocking the left handed Kolle out in the first round with a vicious body attack, followed by a right hook to the head that put Kolle spread eagle in la la land. It was with great pride that Fernando and I watched as Paul and his trainer are not only a a good friends but Paul also sparred with Fernando in D.C o get ready for the lefty, Kolle. They will be in Salisbury to support Fernando on Oct 3rd. Paul , who has beaten Antonio Margarita and his trainer / manager George Peterson, have come to Salisbury a few times to spar and train with Fernando when he was getting ready for his second fight with Quntanos. Also coming to watch is Tony Thompson heavyweight contender that fought Vlad Klitchko a few months ago. Fernando has stayed with both Paul and Tony while training in D.C from time to time. Hal

WARNING / SCAM

"Hi Joe:

I wanted to let you know about a believed scam that is going on that may effect your readers. I received a letter in the mail today for a debt settlement offer. The company is Arrow Financial Services of Niles, IL. They claim I had a past due balance of $103.81 with Pepco, and that I could settle for $15.57. I assume they think if they try for such a small amount people will just pay it. The only problem is I've never had such an account. I don't have any relative nor anyone I know that's ever had an account with Pepco. I'm not even a homeowner and would have no use for propane gas service! Every house I've ever lived in has electric heat and appliances. If you check with the BBB Illinois you'll find over 1000 complaints against them, including others for trying to collect on bogus accounts. Surprisingly they are still licensed to do business in the state of IL! Please let your readers know never to accept a letter at face value. Should you call them, NEVER give your social security number or account information. Since they are a supposed collection agency they should already have your information.

I'm a Delaware resident, but would you check with your friend Davis Ruark and see if he's familiar with this company and if he has any advice?

Thanks,
Cliff"

It's tough to stay married. My wife kisses the dog on the lips, yet she won't drink from my glass!

Last night my wife met me at the front door. She was wearing a sexy negligee. The only trouble was, she was coming home.

A girl phoned me and said, 'Come on over. There's nobody home.' I went over. she was right.. there was Nobody home!

A hooker once told me she had a headache!

If it weren't for pickpockets, I'd have no sex life at all.

I was making love to this girl and she started crying I said, 'Are you going to hate yourself in the morning?' She said, 'No, I hate myself now.'

I knew a girl so ugly that she was known as a two-bagger. That's when you put a bag over your head in case the bag over her head comes off.

I knew a girl so ugly, they use her in prisons to cure sex offenders.

My wife is such a bad cook, if we leave dental floss in the kitchen the roaches hang themselves.

I'm so ugly I stuck my head out the window and got arrested for mooning.

The other day I came home early and a guy was jogging, naked. I asked him, 'Why?'
He said, 'Because you came home early.'

My wife's such a bad cook, the dog begs for Alka-Seltzer.

I know I'm not sexy. When I put my underwear on I can hear the Fruit-of-the-Loom guys giggling.

My wife is such a bad cook, in my house we pray after the meal.

My wife likes to talk on the phone during sex; she called me from Chicago last night.

My family was so poor that if I hadn't been born a boy, I wouldn't have had anything to play with.

I am laying in bed..my wife starts to talk dirty.....so I turn over...she's on the phone.

The PAC-14 Fiasco Continues

This morning at 10AM, representatives of the three "partners" in Salisbury / Wicomico's public access channel will gather in room 305 of the GOB.  All those interested in the future of public access in the area should try to attend.

Rumors are flying that representatives of Salisbury University will try to play a heavy handed game - including threats of pulling support from the station.  Given that the University's representatives, along with Salisbury City Administrator John Pick, are at the root cause of the current turmoil we would not be surprised by almost any tactic.

World's Dumbest

If you are looking for something on the tube on Thursday nights and need a good laugh,I highly recommend "World's Dumbest" on Tru TV(formerly CourtTV).Hosted by infamous celebrities like Danny Bonaduce,Todd Bridges and Tanya Harding, this program is a complete hour of stupid criminals caught on tape.It showcases morons like the guy who stole a check from his girlfriends mother, forged it for 360 BILLION dollars and presented it to a bank teller, and an armed thug who was trying to make a quick getaway and could not figure out how to get out of the store(the door opened inwards and he was pushing it).One robber on tonights show lost his prosthetic leg at the scene of the crime, and the bonehead did not realize that artificial limbs all carry serial numbers which can be traced back to the owner. My personal favorite is the man who applied for a job at a fast food place, filling out an application that included his real name, address and social security number, and decided to hold up the place before leaving!.What a maroon!
They say it is not nice to laugh at anothers misfortune, but in the case of these brainiacs, its perfectly OK!
"World's Dumbest" airs on Thursday nights at 9 pm EST on Tru TV.
