Delmar Police Department Collective Bargaining Passes 86 Yes, 34 No.

The very controversial special election on Collective Bargaining for the Town of Delmar Police Department is finally over and the Citizens have spoken.

With more than 8,000 residents, 2,800 of them are registered voters, yet only 120 people came out to vote.

Nonetheless, this Police Department will finally have some leverage and with any hope things will start to change for the better in the near future.

More to come........

Just Over An Hour Left To Vote Delmar!!!!!

Earlier today there were more people than had been expected to vote. However, I will be Posting more on this after 8:00 PM. Delmar had VERY POOR signage to let people know where to vote. Nevertheless, GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!

I'll have more on this story later.

The Magic Number in The City is $500,000

It appears the magic number in the city is $500,000, or a figure that includes $500,000. Why, you ask ? I'll be more than happy to tell you why.

The owners/developers of Aydelotte Farms were going to donate the road bed to the city. They withdrew the donation. So what does Barrie and her flying monkeys do? They PAY nearly $500,000 tax dollars, for the road bed, to the owners/developers. Looks like Barrie Tilghman and her band of thieves are into charitable contributions for developers. So much for Comegys GROWTH PAYS FOR GROWTH. Maybe he meant the city taxpayers will pay for growth. Who knows with him, I can't figure it out.

The city plans to install two six foot drainage pipes, one at Carroll & Waverly and one at Isabella St that will allow faster drainage of storm waters into the Wicomico River. This work is going to cost $800k or more, I'm not certain if this is per pipe or both pipes. No problems there, the people that experience flooding on their properties should see some relief with these new drainage pipes. The problem is, there will be NO FILTRATION, so anything that is in the storm drains will end up in the Wicomico River and eventually down river to rest at the edge of the properties of those who paid a small fortune for their riverfront homes. Nice view they'll have. NOT! Gary Comegys said filtration systems would cost nearly $250,000 more or less, for each pipe. Another $500,000 they don't want to spend on what is needed. They'll wait until the EPA requires filtration so they can spend even more money to do what they should have done to begin with. That would be to much like right, for this bunch. If one of their developer buddies were responsible for the installation of these pipes you can bet your bippy they'd come up with a half a mil to hand off to them for something or other. Certainly, it won't be filtration, their track record has proven that.

Here we are talking about water towers, again. As Joe pointed out Westwood Commerce park initially stated they would construct and donate the tower. They welshed on that deal. Then Westwood Commerce Park said they would donate $1,500,000 towards a water tower. They welshed on that deal as well.

Here we were at budget time and good ole Debbie Campbell sees something out of sorts in the Water/Sewer pages. In Water & Sewer Recommendations, proposed by none other than the head crook in charge, Barrie Parsons Tilghman there is a line item "Proceeds from Developers" in the amount of...you guessed it, $1,500,000, that's ONE MILLION FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS. When Debbie Campbell asks John Pick about this million and a half he states, it was a donation but it was withdrawn by the developer. He goes on to state, we don't have it and we're not going to get it. Want to hear the audio for yourself? Listen Here It should also be noted when it came time to vote and pass the budget, Gary Comegys wanted that particular page entered into the record, even after hearing Debbie Campbell's concerns with the non existent $1,500,000. Of course it passed by a vote of...(say it out loud folks) 3-2

Now correct me if I'm wrong, if there are numbers on the books to indicate there was a $1,500,000 donation but the reality is there is no such donation and you know you are not going to receive this donation, no possible hope of ever seeing this $1,500,000 donation, and you leave this number on the books for the purpose of obtaining a balance, isn't that what is known as COOKING or PADDING THE BOOKS? If it's not cooking/padding the books, it is some of the most creative accounting I've ever seen.

My next question is, IF this is cooking or padding the books, why hasn't anyone done anything about it? I don't mean the average citizen, I mean law enforcement. It's not like they haven't been made aware of it. What hold does this administration have on all levels of law enforcement within the state of Maryland? Could it be they (law enforcement) are adding this to their laundry list, building a case against the administration? Time will tell. However, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Update: You can see for yourself the mayors recommendation and Gary Comegys recommendation of May 22, 2008. The only difference I noticed was the name at the top of the page a couple of percentage points shaved off the rate hikes. Proves once again, Barrie = Gary/Gary = Barrie.

Sam's Club Fuel Sales Go Through The Roof

I met with the General Manager of the Salisbury Sam's Club today and this guy couldn't have cracked a bigger smile on his face when it came to our discussing the major spike upwards in their fuel sales recently.

I knew things had to be good but I never expected things to be this good! I don't care what anyone says, Sam's Club is setting the bar when it comes to honest and accurate sale prices in the Salisbury Community.

Good for them! I hope they continue this trend and while no one will argue the price of gas is still out of this world, at least Sam's and Salisbury News let you know daily where's the best place to buy your gas. Certainly Sam's is not the most convenient place for many to buy their gas but like some have said in other comments, they arrange the purchase of their gas to work when they happen to be in the Salisbury area.

This is exactly what Mr. Tom Stevenson was trying to avoid recently when they did recent inspections at local Motels. IMHO, they need to keep on these Flea Bag Motels with greedy owners who will break the rules regularly and note care at all what the law states.

When you're in a business, any business, you must know the rules and regulations, (codes) in order to operate such a business. You can't tell me these people are clueless. Keep doing what you're doing Tom and hopefully you'll continue to save lives by at least making sure the smoke detectors are in fact working. It obviously saved the lives of this Family. EIGHT people in one small room, UNBELIEVABLE!

BARRIE & HILLARY – TOGETHER IN DENVER

[a Sbynews Exclusive Report]

A source in the Maryland Delegation to the Democrat National Convention has
sent this photo of Hillary greeting her committed alternate delegate from
Salisbury and reported their conversation as follows:

HRC – Barrie, let’s have a hug. I’ve been reading Sbynews every day and know
that Joe Albero has done to you what Rush Limbaugh did to me. It looks like
we’re both sore losers now, so we need a hug.

BPT – Keep your damn hug and give me Bill’s cellphone number. He’s always been
my role model, and I’ve got a big cigar for him to "smoke."

HRC – OK, as long as you don’t tell Chelsea how you got it. I could care less
what the two of you do.

Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Nails Counterfeiters

Incident: Counterfeit Merchandise

Date of Incident: 19 August 2008

Location: U.S. 13 S/B South of Parker Road, MD

Suspects:
1. Malachi Christopher Wise, 32, Exmore, VA
2. Iysha Simone Wise, 20, Exmore, VA

Narrative: On 19 August 2008 at 9:50 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle operated by Malachi Wise for an equipment violation. During his contact with Wise, the deputy observed indicators that led him to believe the occupants were engaged in criminal activity. A Wicomico County Sheriff drug K9 responded to the scene and after a scan, alerted to the presence of the odor of illegal drugs in the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, the deputy located marijuana.

The deputy also observed several packages inside the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle, Wise and his passenger Iysha Wise, stated they buy items in New York for re-sale at flea markets in Virginia. When the deputies opened the packages, they discovered what they recognized as counterfeit DVD’s and CD’s. A total of 64 counterfeit DVD’s and 130 counterfeit CD’s were discovered. A further search revealed 44 pairs of counterfeit NIKE tennis shoes in the trunk. The deputy was able to determine their lack of authenticity due to his training and the manner in which they were packages and constructed. Based on his investigation, the deputy determined that these counterfeit goods were destined to be sold upon their arrival to Virginia.

Both Malachi and Iysha Wise were arrested and transported to the Central Booking Unit at the Wicomico County Detention Center where they were processed and brought before the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, both subjects were held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $5,000.00 bond.

Charges:
Possession of Counterfeit Items with the intention to sell and distribute

Board Of Housing Adjustments & Apeals

Although Judge Davis recommended this particular case go back to this Board for reconsideration, Nancy Thomas lost once again against a Landlord not even present to defend his own case.

Yesterday this meeting was held in which the Landlord should have lost his Non Conforming 4-2 Use because he went from a 4 person rental to a one person rental for two years. After one year, should a Landlord choose to lower the occupancy below his exemption amount, the property is supposed to lose its non conforming use and revert to 4-2 conforming use permenantly.

Cindy McDonald represented the City and put up a good fight, arguing the wording of the law in which the Board ultimately sided with. Without getting technical about the 4-2 laws, this is a very difficult article to write and I don't want to create a forever long post about the technicalities. I'm not a Judge and although the 4-2 law was supposed to create a better residential marketplace for these neighborhoods, the laws are written in favor of the Landlords and obviously the City is planting their feet firmly into the ground and letting everyone know they're not budging, even though Judge Davis more or less asked them to reconsider.

Like Congress, perhaps with a change throughout the City Leadership and Boards, things might go back to the way the laws were intended to be. That, of course, is up to the Citizens/Voters.

My strong suggestion to you would be, contact Neighborhood Services immediately when you see a Landlord reducing the tenants in your neighborhood. Make sure your letter is recorded.

THE MAIN EVENT

When you're driving north on Rt 13 from Fruitland you'll see this new Billboard for the Main Street Gym. As I mentioned last night, a Fundraiser for the new Main Street Gym is under way and the block of tickets I had been responsible for has already been sold. I do expect to get my hands on more, (for those of you reading this Blog) should you want to attend. However, seriously Folks, you must come in to get your tickets as soon as possible because they're selling out fast. I'm going to check and see if they can actually enlarge the event to hold more people and I'll get back to you later today on that.

In the mean time, if you'd like to show your support for this fantastic Non Profit Facility, get on board and buy a ticket or two and enjoy a night out at Chef Fred's on Saturday September, 13 from 8 PM to Midnight. There will be a silent auction at the event as well.

I can't close this Post without thanking Hal Chernoff for ALL that he has done for this Community and the kids. Fernando Guerrero has shed so much light on this facility but in all reality it's the kids that make it what it is by showing interest and without Hal Chernoff, none of this would be a reality. Their new facility on Northwood Drive is just unbelievable and with your support this new Gym will open sooner than later.

I'll have a Post up later showing you the building that is already built and simply in need of final touches. This event will help close the rest of the deal to make that happen and we thank you for your support.

I Strongly Urge Every One Of You To Click On This Link Below

Some of you may remember him but he passed away before many of you were born. Red Skelton was a good & funny man. He also ended every show by saying, 'GOOD NIGHT AND GOD BLESS.' Listen to the end of this. It is something he said 39 years ago.

Very important that you listen to the very end! Eerie! Take a moment and listen to it (from 1969). How would he have known that this is what is happening?

Just Who Does The City Council Work For Any More?

While Developers are once again lining up for annexations and new developments recently, let's look at past history and see just how your City Council and Mayor are treating you Folks.

Let's take Westwood for example. Where's the Water Tower they promised? Oh, that's right, they nixed that idea. That seemed to be just fine with the former City Council with exception of Debbie Campbell, who seemed to see right through the BS.

The next thing we knew the Westwood Industrial Park project offered to pay $1,5,000.00 to the City to have them build it. Everyone calmed down at that point because that seemed to be OK. Well guess what? They reneged on that offer as well and now there's no money on the table at all for a much needed Water Tower.

Gee, I wonder why you haven't read anything about that in the Tilghman Times? Now let's cap this story off with this. You do know that the Developer did in fact receive their Developer Reimbursement, yet there's NO Water Tower!

Keep it up Comegys and Tilghman, because we're onto your BS and every time there's questions to be asked at any Mayoral Forum, these are the kind of questions you'll be confronted with. That is, unless the Mayor pulls it off like the last time, only allowing the questions they want answered so the Public isn't aware of their games.

It's time for a major change in Salisbury Folks and this time it's going to be up to you. Don't look for the handshakes, smiles and false promises because it will be business as usual should Comegys win as Mayor.

NO JOE - BAMA

Pa. Fire Company Finds Fire Truck On eBay

MOUNT PENN, Pa. — Officials in an eastern Pennsylvania borough say they found a way to save hundreds of thousands of dollars on a needed firetruck - they found it on eBay.

The Mount Penn Fire Company in Berks County solicited bids for a new ladder truck and got one for $808,000. Officials say they would have been paying that off for the next two decades, so they started looking for a used one.

That's when firefighter David Schwoyer found a 1992 Seagrave ladder truck on eBay. Calls to the manufacturer and the Cincinnati Fire Department, the previous owner, convinced officials that it was the right choice.

Chief Timothy Waldman called the owner and agreed to pay $12,000, sweated out an online auction and then headed to Kentucky with a group of his fellow firefighters. The 56 1/2-foot truck needed a new motor from Ohio and a full renovation from a Wisconsin factory.

But officials say that when the truck is delivered in January, the company will be getting a like-new machine for less than $250,000.

Sam's Gas Prices This Morning

As I was filling up one of my tanks this morning a very kind woman yelled across the Station, "THANKS JOE!" I walked over and asked if Salisbury News had brought her to Sam's Club to purchase her gas in her pickup truck and she replied, yes. I asked her if she was a Member and again she replied, yes. Thanks for the kind words and support.

London Sunday Times

London Sunday Times

Investor's Business Daily editorial board ask, 'What would happen if the U.S. won a war but the media didn't tell the American public?

Apparently, we have to rely on a British newspaper for the news that we've defeated the last remnants of al-Qaida in Iraq .' London's Sunday Times called it 'the culmination of one of the most spectacular victories of the war on terror.' A terrorist force that once numbered more than 12,000, with strongholds in the west and central regions of Iraq, has over two years been reduced to a mere 1,200 fighters, backed against the wall in the northern city of Mosul.

The destruction of al-Qaida in Iraq (AQI) is one of the most unlikely and unforeseen events in the long history of American warfare. We can thank President Bush's surge strategy, in which he bucked both Republican and Democratic leaders in Washington by increasing our forces there instead of surrendering. We can also thank the leadership of the new general he placed in charge there, David Petraeus, who may be the foremost expert in the world on counter-insurgency warfare. And we can thank those serving in our military in Iraq who engaged local Iraqi tribal leaders and convinced them America was their friend and AQI their enemy.

Al-Qaida's loss of the hearts and minds of ordinary Iraqis began in Anbar Province , which had been written off as a basket case, and spread out from there. Now, in Operation Lion's Roar the Iraqi army and the U.S. 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment is destroying the fraction of terrorists who are left. More than 1,000 AQI operatives have already been apprehended.

Sunday Times reporter Marie Colvin, traveling with Iraqi forces in Mosul , found little AQI presence even in bullet-ridden residential areas that were once insurgency strongholds, and reported that the terrorists have lost control of its Mosul urban base, with what is left of the organization having fled south into the countryside.

Meanwhile, the State Department reports that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government has achieved 'satisfactory' progress on 15 of the 18 political benchmarks - a big change for the better from a year ago. Things are going so well that Maliki has even for the first time floated the idea of a timetable for withdrawal of American forces. He did so while visiting the United Arab Emirates, which over the weekend announced that it was forgiving almost $7 billion of debt owed by Baghdad - an impressive vote of confidence from a fellow Arab state in the future of a free Iraq.

But where are the headlines and the front-page stories about all this good news? As the Media Research Center pointed out last week, 'the CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News and CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 were silent Tuesday night about the benchmarks' that signaled political progress. The war in Iraq has been turned around 180 degrees both militarily and politically because the president stuck to his guns. Yet apart from IBD, Fox News Channel and parts of the foreign press, the media don't seem to consider this historic event a big story.

Is This Not The Last Place Citizens Would Like To See A.S.A.P. Doing Business?

Yesterday, Salisbury News was able to capture the above photos where A.S.A.P. was in fact loading up their portable potties from the Wicomico Middle School.

It turns out the Contractor doing work at this facility/school had allegedly contracted A.S.A.P. to take care of their needs here and once again you have to wonder, just how did they get away with this on a Wicomico County property?

Keep those tips coming Folks because this is what I'm talking about. The County refuses to do business with A.S.A.P. but never set any rules for Contractors to follow suit. Perhaps Ed Baker should look into this?

LIVE IN CONCERT!!! PASSAFIRE/CAN'T HANG SAT. AUG. 30th

Hey Joe! This is Jack Harris. Hope all is well with you. Keep up the good work with the blog. Anyways. I am helping to promote a couple of concerts at the Fountains. Last night's show consisting of the Kelly Bell Band and Rehab was sold out!! The venue looked amazing with that many people supporting a 'real concert' in Salisbury. The Fountains is a first class place to see a show. The sound and lighting rival anywhere that I have been. This Saturday Passafire from Savannah and Can't Hang from Baltimore will be playing. Passafire is on the brink of being huge!! They have their own style while blending Rock, Reggae and Dub. They have consistently been touring with the likes of Van Halen, 311, Matisyahu, The Wailers, Pepper, Beres Hammond, and many other international acts. Ted Bowne, the lead singer from Passafire is a Salisbury native who graduated from Bennett. So this will be a homecoming of sorts. In addition Can't Hang has played many national gigs while incorporating a Reggae/Rock feel to their music. Furthermore, I will be Dj'ing Rock, Reggae, Funk, Soul, World, etc. etc. etc. before, and in between sets. There will be tons of drink specials and tickets are only $10 at the door. Show starts at 8:30 p.m. This is an all ages show. Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please post this along with the flyer and links. Thanks a million!!!

One Day the Daily Times May Accurately Report on the Old Mall

The central premise of this morning's Daily Times article on the old mall project appears to be true. A judge has ruled that the developers must return a seven figure deposit to builder K. Hovnavian Homes.

It's those pesky detail that just keep getting in the way. You know, little things like what a TIF is or whether or not a suit was filed in the second re-zoning of the parcel.

It may seem like nit-picking, but if you're going to tell a story over a long period of time, you need to keep you story straight - even if the facts are wrong. Read More ...

I am passing this on to you because it definitely works, and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr Phil proclaimed, 'The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.'

So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of White Rum, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates. You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.

Please pass this on to anyone you think might be in need of inner peace.

Get Ready To Display Your Flag

On Thursday, September 11th, 2008, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States. Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this seventh anniversary of one our country's worst tragedies. We do this honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds
