Government Gives Another $40 Billion To AIG

After burning through billions in bailout cash, the troubled Insurance Company American International Group, (AIG) is getting more financial assistance from the government under a restructured deal worth about $150 billion. The news comes as the failing insurer reporting a steep third quarter loss of $24 billion.

Bend Over Americans. Maybe Circuit City is next? What about Feldman's! Want another TIF Barrie Tilghman? How about another Fire Boat See & Gordy.

The Daily Times Is Asking For Voluntary Layoffs

On today's bulletin board inside the Daily Times they are asking for voluntary layoffs from their current employees/staff.

Besides their 10% layoff announced by Salisbury News, they are asking people to take a bullet for others so they can continue to COMPETE with Salisbury News. Come on guys, help them out and quit. No unemployment, no benefits, let's get that Joe Albero guy.

And you people give me sh!t about not caring about so many job losses. Hell, these people are asking employees to line up and ask to lose their jobs.

Calling On All Young Republicans II

As the Executive Board of the Lower Shore Young Republicans, we find this behavior to be disgusting and reprehensible. As an organization, we would never condone this type of activity and hope that the perpetrator of this disgrace be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It is individuals like this miscreant who continue to distort and misrepresent the Republican Party and those involved in it. The Lower Shore Young Republicans are very involved in the community and seek to improve our area in the best way possible. We hope that this invdividual will step forward and accept responsibility for their actions.

Circuit City Filed Bankruptcy Today

While we already knew this was coming, it became formal today. Circuit City does plan on keeping their doors open over the Holidays but let me tell you, I won't be buying a single item from them PERIOD. No returns, no service, NO THANKS! They are doing what they can to create a reorganization plan but we all know what the outcome will be. They're failing, they have failed and they'll do anything they can to get any business they can before they ultimately close their doors for good. Circuit City is NOT a store that demands to be open.

The time is coming Ladies & Gentlemen. Businesses are starting to announce their losses and if they had a National Business Obituary section in the Newspapers it would be loaded with failures due to the economy.

Here comes the Depression.

Here Comes Big Brotha

You've just got to love the Democratic Party!

Are you ready Folks. Are you sitting? If there was ever a time you needed a seat belt for the chair you're sitting in, NOW IS THE TIME!

According to Neil Bortz, (SP?) The Democrats want to immediately create a new program called, GRA's, (Guaranteed Retirement Accounts.

You know those 401 K's and IRA's that you currently own? Say GOODBYE to ALL of them! The Democrats want to seize ALL 401 K's and IRA's immediately and turn them into GRA's! Now, what makes this extremely interesting is, there is more than $4 TRILLION in IRA's and 401 K's right now. Once they seize these accounts and take control of them, IF you are to die, the Government would allow you to WILL off 50% to your Family and KEEP the other 50%!!!!!!!!

Here's the big question, will Obama support this Big Brotha Move?

I warned ALL of you that this was what's coming to America. They will take and suck you dry until every single penny you have ever made and earned is GONE! Once they are satisfied that they have tapped you out, then we'll rebuild a new America.

Spread the word Ladies & Gentlemen because it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

HERE COMES A GREATER DEPRESSION!

Froggy 99.9 Radio Show Dogs Dog Show

This weekend one of the DJ's from Froggy 99.9 put his child on the air. The child was complaining because his Mother wanted to take him to the Wicomico Civic Center to see the Dog Show. The son said he didn't want to go and the Father, (the D.J.) said, that's OK son, you don't have to go to a stupid Dog Show. I'll take you to the Monster Truck Show instead.

Now look, I don't necessarily have a problem with a Father telling his Son he doesn't have to go to something like a Dog Show. However, if you're going to get on the air and discourage others from going to such an event, that's BS!

Let me just explain a few facts to this D.J. who is obviously young and ignorant. This Dog Show is a locally run and locally supported Dog Show. Hundreds, (if not thousands) of hours go into putting together one of the biggest events the Civic Center holds all year.

People start coming into Town on Thursday. This means, almost every Hotel and Motel is booked in the Salisbury area. Last year there were nearly 1,000 Dogs entered into the Show. Guess what, these people come from all over the World. I know one entire group is from Japan. Nevertheless, this should give you an idea of just how many Dog Owners book Hotel/Motel Rooms.

Then there's the local Restaurants. They're BOOKED! When you start forgetting where you came from and ignore such events like this, that means one of two things. Either 1,000 Dogs and their Owners stop coming here or YOU will have to travel to other states to see such events, costing YOU far more money. Then YOU have to pay for Restaurants and Hotel/Motel Rooms.

Thousands of people truly enjoy this Dog Show and Froggy 99.9 should show more respect towards the extremely hard work that goes into this event. You don't put your kid on the air and talk an event like this down. One thing is for sure. Froggy 99.9 just lost a lot of listeners and advertisers. THINK before you pull this kind of stunt and discourage others from attending and making a joke about it.

Comon Sense

My parents told me about Mr. Common Sense early in my life and told me I would do well to call on him when making decisions. It seems he was always around in my early years but less and less as time passed by until today I read his obituary. Please join me in a moment of silence in remembrance. For Common Sense had served us all so well for so many generations.

Obituary
Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student; but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm a Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Pedestrian Hit Last Night On Pemberton

"Joe, do you know if a pedestrian was hit on Pemberton Rd last evening? It would have been around 5:30 pm. My kids passed by there and saw cars pulled over, a blanket being put over someone, something...... There was no emergency response at that time."

I wasn't made aware of anything but perhaps someone can chime in and let us know.

Why Sussex County Loves Barrie Tilghman

Under her "leadership" as mayor, business firms have either passed up Salisbury
(the SoBo microbrewery) or relocated, as in this case, to Sussex. Salisbury Communications, Welcome To Delaware. Man, this is starting to get old. I'm going to have to start printing Welcome Cards. Especially for everyone selling their homes and moving to Delmar. This sign can clearly be seen at their old Salisbury location.

2008 Was A Tough Year For Republicans

On election night at the Harris Camp, quite a bit of people were watching closely at the Presidential Race. I have to tell you Folks, while I couldn't get the volume of people in one shot at the Harris Crab House, once Obama won, 70% of the people there headed right for the door and walked out.

What bothered me was the fact that the Congressional Race was still going strong but the majority of people left anyway. It was in interesting evening and I stuck around until 1:30 AM but knew I had a long ride back to Delaware and I was told Andy wasn't coming down to speak to anyone anyway.

Today we should get some more figures towards that race but considering the majority of absentee ballots that are out there are from Wicomico County, it doesn't look good for Senator Harris.

Perhaps we'll just have to see how Mr. Kratovil handles himself over the next two years and go from there. Who knows, maybe he'll please us all and send the Eastern Shore message in the right direction for once. He's got a lot of promises to uphold. Time will tell.

All the way around though, it was a tough year for Republicans.

Prayer Doesn't Always Work

We can Hope and we can Pray but one thing is for sure, the outcome is not always what we had hoped and prayed for. God will always be a mystery and that's what brings so many people back for more.

Many say Church's are becoming a thing of the past. Can/Will Obama play a role in reviving that in America? Or will we watch one of the strongest bases of America dwindle away because we have to worry more about our mortgages and survival instead.

It's going to get even worse fellow Americans. There's another bubble you're about to see in the not so distant future. You see, baby boomers are growing older and living longer. There's NOT enough housing for them over the next 20 years and we probably can't build fast enough to care for them/us.

There will come a day when we'll no longer be able to take care of ourselves and assisted living will be the next biggest industry to hit America, seriously. If you want to bank on anything in the future and make money at it, this will be the industry. That is, if there's anything left to invest.

I hate to admit it but the future doesn't look like anything I'd want to be a part of. My guess is that our Government will get their hands on building these facilities and take back once more what was ours to begin with. Salisbury News just isn't big enough to let the whole Country know about what the future holds and what to look out for. Therefore, in our little part of the Country, be prepared because prayer isn't going to resolve this major future problem either.

Thursday Marks One Year Since Christine Sheddy Disappeared from Pocomoke Farmhouse

Yes, that's right one year has nearly gone since Christine Sheddy disappeared from a Pocomoke farmhouse.

Do the police know anymore today than they did a year ago?

A lot of rumors have been flying around regarding her disappearance, and only Christine knows the truth.

Where is she? Is she still alive and simply ran away from her life, or did she meet a horrible end covered up by an unknown killer right here amongst us in Pocomoke City?

This is very small town, and the cast of characters of this drama was very small.

Constitutional rights have kept lie detector tests from being administered to the key cast members, and there is nothing that can be done about it.

The local ATV Club offered to search the area but was told they weren't needed. Property owners were contacted for permission to search, yet never saw a search executed.

A rug was taken out the farmhouse and burned. No DNA was found on the scene.

So many stories, how much truth?

Thanksgiving, Christmas, Birthdays, Weddings; all things Christine has missed in the last year. Will she miss yet another year of holidays and family celebrations?

Her family needs to know, her friends need to know, Pocomoke needs to know.

A Message To The Editor

Joe...

I went to Taco Bell Saturday night around midnight.. From Milford Street to Taco Bell I saw 5 MD State Troopers. They either were patrolling, have pulled over or were pulling over cars. It was so nice to see the presence. The 45 minutes I was in the are I never saw even 1 Salisbury Police Officer. I did find that sad that the State comes to control the Saturday madness but Salisbury was no where around.

The Night Of The Living Zoo A Grand Success

Hi All,

I wanted to update you on a couple of items of interest here at the Zoo.

My first NOLZ was quite an event! Overall, it went extremely well and the staff and volunteers did a wonderful job! We had about 6,211 visitors come through the gates over the two nights. That represents an increase of almost 1,000 visitors over last year! And last year was the record to date! I am proud of all those who made it work!

The second item is a bit of a pre-emptive announcement but one that I am very excited to deliver! On Friday night, we had a titi monkey born!!! This birth means that the TOTAL captive population for North America now stands at 47 animals! This is a significant birth! We will wait a few days before making a public announcement/press release to make sure it is nursing and doing well (also, to get some pics). It is about 4" long, not including the tail. It has been spending a lot of time clinging to the father; thus, we are watching it to see how often it goes back to the mother and nurses. It has been observed nursing today. We won't intervene as long as the baby stays active and strong.

The last item has nothing to do with the Zoo but is an important re-discovery. Recently there has been report from the forests of Costa Rica that some researchers have discovered a pair of golden toads. While this may not seem real exciting, it is actually very good news. Golden toads have not been observed for more than 20 years and were thought to be extinct. The female of the pair was gravid (with eggs). Years ago, while leading a birding trip to Costa Rica, I went to the Monteverde cloud forest. Although we were looking for birds, one could not help but notice the $ 1,000 reward signs at the Visitor's Center for a confirmed sighting of a golden toad. That was in the late eighties and they hadn't been seen in years then either. This kind of news coming out of the tropics when the chytrid fungus in killing off amphibian populations on a weekly basis, is great news!

Good things are happening!

Enjoying The Wicomico River

Thank God the Mayor hasn't instructed anyone recently to put up signs closing the river. This fine gentleman was enjoying the River on Sunday and asked, "Are you going to make me famous?" I replied, take a swig of that water and I can guarantee you'll be famous. We both got a nice laugh out of it and went out merry ways.

Just imagine what this City COULD BE.

Elks Honor Vets

The Salisbury Elks Lodge #817 will be honoring veterans this month. Wicomico County Council has named November “Veteran’s Remembrance Month” (see attached proclamation) and the local BOPE Lodge on Church Hill Avenue will be having some activities to help and honor veterans. On Tuesday November 11, 2008 the Elks Veterans Committee will be taking care packages to veterans in local hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. Later that night at 7 PM the Lodge Officers will be conducting a flag disposal ceremony to consecrate old worn flags. The ceremony is open to the public and those having old flags are urged to drop them by the Lodge before the ceremony. In addition the Lodge is running the Michael Manning Disabled Vietnam Veteran’s Coin Can drive (see http://www.elks.org/Lodges/NewsStory.cfm?StoryID=38929 ). Cans have been placed in store throughout the area and customers are urged to drop your spare change in and help our injured and disable veterans. The Lodge Charity fund will match all donations.

Daily Times Keeps Rehashing Old News

I went on line today to see what was new with the Daily Times. Wouldn't you know it, they were once again rehashing the news about the Wolf being pregnant blah, blah, blah. They're weeks behind on the Titi Monkey. Remember last week it was the Micro Brewery I think three times day after day. Salisbury News broke that story MONTHS ago!

Here at Salisbury News, we're out on the streets, (that's very different from the Times) and getting stories to bring you that are local. As the day progresses, you'll see what we deliver, unlike the Daily Times. Oh, you didn't have to pay $ .75 a day for our news and information.

Thanks for making Salisbury News look so good Greg Bassett.

Question of the Day, Mon 11/10

The election is over. The signs and commercials have been pulled. It's over, for 4 years.

The 14th Amendment permits states to deny the vote "for participation in rebellion, or other crime."

The purpose of prison is to deny freedom. Voting is not a privilege, it is the basic right that defines a citizen. Those denied it are people without a country.

Do you think prisoners should be allowed to vote? Should people who have paid their debt to society have their rights restored? Why or why not?

Rabies Clinic At Humane Society

The Wicomico County Humane Society will be hosting a rabies clinic at the shelter next Sunday (the 16th) from 10:00am-noon. Cost is $10 per shot, cash only.

Unites States Marines Celebrates Its 233rd Birthday

Today marks a very special day for the United States Marines as they celebrate their 233rd Birthday. I know one guy that will be on here making a comment.

Should you have served in the USMC, could you please let us know when, where and how many tours?

Salisbury's Infrastructure Continues To Crumble

Once again Ladies & Gentlemen, pictures don't lie. Mayor Tilghman has been in Office for more than 10 years and it really doesn't matter where you go throughout the City, sidewalks, curbs and street paving has NOT been on her priority list, even though you the taxpayer are paying increased taxes and getting nothing in return.

Oh sure, for the new person moving into a new development it's great! You get all the benefits of fine living at your expense. This mentality and leadership needs to stop and only you can make that happen. If you want more of the same crap, Gary Comegys will announce his running for Mayor on the 12th of November and you can show your support for him.

If you're tired of the same old crap, as I see it at this moment, Jim Ireton is the man of choice to run the City of Salisbury. Comegys would be nothing but more of the same old Tilghman crap.

Obama is going to have one hell of a time getting America back on track and so will the Mayor's replacement. It won't happen overnight. However, change needs to happen first and then we can look towards a much brighter future ahead.

Could you just imagine how much my phone would ring off the hook if I invited everyone to call me to come out and take pictures of this same kind of damage throughout the city in front of every one's homes and businesses. Please, don't do that. I think everyone gets the idea with these photos alone. Mayor Tilghman has run this City into the ground and simply forgot who she was supposed to be taking care of.

I truly challenge that Idiot to run again just to let her feel how the majority of Citizens can't stand her. Do you know my worst fear though. Once she's no longer in Office we're going to be subjected into seeing her out and about in shorts and bra less and that just makes me sick.
