Illiteracy In Louisiana ?

How would you pronounce this child's name?

She spells her name "Le-a"

So how would YOU pronounce her name?

Leah? ......................NO.
Lee - A? ................. NOPE.
Lay - a? ............ NOT A CHANCE.
Lei?...........NICE TRY, BUT GUESS AGAIN!

This child attends a school in Livingston Parish, LA.

Her mother is irate because everyone is getting her child's name wrong.

She says it's pronounced "Ledasha."

When the Mother was asked how in the world she figured

it should be pronounced that way, she said,

"cause the dash don't be silent!"

So, if you see a name come across your desk like this,

please remember to pronounce the dash.

Education just isn't what it used to be. Any time people can graduate and not be able to read and write, we know we're in trouble.

dont know if this story is real or not, but there was a child with this name at one of the schools here on the shore.

Reminds me of a story I heard a long time ago about the lady that thought the hospital named her baby cause on the hospital crib it said "Female Smith" to identify the baby. So the child ended up with the name Female pronounced like tamale only with an f.

I believe this... now you see more apostrophies, and dashes and the flagrant use of the "Quan"

Before too long the name will be Quaquanquan

Watch around here I think a month or so before this happens!

At least give them credit for being creative. They just make up names. I went to school with a girl named Placenta. I heard of a Yellojello (pronounced yell-onge-ello) and Orangejello (pronouced or-onge-ello).

The Yellojello and Orangejello names.... yelp that's a true story and the names are real!!!!!

oops, I just wrote the "it's a true story." I mean it was Lemonjello, (La-mon-ja-low) NOT Yellojello. True story.

At one time it was against the law to teach a black to read.

Not everybody needs an education. Public education is socialism.

Some animals cannot be educated or trained to the standard that most of us are. Remember ,most humans are at the top of the animal chain as for as intelligence.

This name Le-a is correct pronounced ledasha.. I am employed with the government and I have had a client with this first name and it was not pronounced correctly and the mother was ignorant.. she was a typical jerk..
