ASSIGNMENT ASKS STUDENTS TO WRITE ESSAY FROM 9/11 TERRORISTS’ PERSPECTIVE

"In other words, how might Al-Qaeda or a non-Western historian describe what happened"

An international studies course at Iowa State University assigned students with writing a “historical account” from the perspective of Al-Qaeda during the 9/11 attack.

The assignment, obtained by The College Fix, specifically asks students to describe how “Al-Qaeda or a non-Western historian” would interpret the attack.

“Write a paper that gives a historical account of 911 from the perspective of the terrorist network,” the assignment says. “In other words, how might Al-Qaeda or a non-Western historian describe what happened.”

“Don’t worry about the fact you don’t agree with the terrorists, the point of the exercise is to consider completely different perspectives,” the assignment continues.

In a statement to The College Fix, Rob Schweers, Iowa State’s director of communications, stated the assignment was not intended to “support the goals” of terrorist groups.

FBI chief James Comey inserts himself into the seamiest corners of politics

For a guy who claims to be above or beneath or beside grubby politics in America, FBI chief James Comey sure does manage to insert himself into the seamiest corners of politics and seize the spotlight at the most fraught moments possible. In this past election, Jim Comey was the “Where’s Waldo?” of American politics.

First he condemns Lady Dragon Hillary with the most damning exoneration in the history of public prosecutions. Then he slays her in public with just weeks to go before the election — only to ride up on his armor-suited horse in a failed effort to resuscitate her in the final days.

As busy as Mr. Comey was in the glare of the klieg lights toying with the helpless and enfeebled Hillary, he was even busier behind the scenes secretly tampering with the election in ways unknown.

Mr. Comey testified before Congress on Monday that his FBI launched a counterintelligence investigation all the way back in July into the presidential campaign of Republican nominee Donald Trump and possible ties to the Russian government.

Drinking tea could prevent type 2 DIABETES

Drinking tea could help to prevent type 2 diabetes, scientists claim.

Consuming the popular beverage helps to smooth out spikes in blood sugar levels that are triggered by snacking on sweet treats.

In the latest study, it was found to significantly reduce the amount of glucose in adults who were given sucrose-laden drinks just before.

Full of polyphenols, experts believe that these powerful compounds block the absorption of sugar.

Gowdy: I Wish Dems Were Outraged Over Unmasking Of Citizens

Trey Gowdy told CBS “Face the Nation” host John Dickerson Sunday that he’s disappointed that Democrats aren’t “more outraged” over the unmasking of private citizens in relation to the investigation on Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.

“The incidental collection of U.S. persons happens,” the South Carolina Republican stated. “What I wish some of my friends on the other side would be a little more outraged about is the political use of that unmasking.”

“I understand we collect U.S. citizens,” he continued. “But we don’t read about those U.S. citizens on the front page of The New York Times and The Washington Post.”

BREAKING NEWS: Obama Aide Evelyn Farkas Squeals Live On MSNBC: 'I Helped Spy On Trump For Obama'

A former top Obama administration official has acknowledged efforts by her colleagues to gather intelligence on Trump team ties to Russia before Donald Trump took office and to conceal the sources of that intelligence from the incoming administration. Evelyn Farkas, deputy assistant secretary of defense under Obama, made the disclosure while on the air with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski. “I was urging my former colleagues and, frankly speaking, the people on the Hill, it was more actually aimed at telling the Hill people, get as much information as you can, get as much intelligence as you can, before President Obama leaves the administration,” Farkas, who is now a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, said. “Because I had a fear that somehow that information would disappear with the senior [Obama] people who left, so it would be hidden away in the bureaucracy ... that the Trump folks – if they found out how we knew what we knew about their ... the Trump staff dealing with Russians – that they would try to compromise those sources and methods, meaning we no longer have access to that intelligence.” More

Paul Ryan’s Catastrophic Lack of Political Skill and Judgment

Everyone knows that a competent lawyer never asks a question in court to which he doesn’t already know the answer. And likewise, a competent political leader never puts a piece of legislation up for a vote without having a good idea of what the vote will be. But when Paul Ryan released his American Health Care Act he evidently had no idea what its reception would be. Whole sections of his own party were angered, and it was obvious that his bill had no chance of passage without truly major changes.

Why didn’t Ryan know all of that before he published the bill? A skilled leader sounds out the major opinion centers in his party to get a sense of what it will take to get them all on board, so that by the time the bill is published he knows where everyone stands and how they will vote. By going public with his bill before ascertaining the lay of the land, Ryan has created an ugly rift within his party, delayed and endangered the forward movement of the Trump administration, and further alienated a GOP base which has long been exasperated by the ineffectiveness of its congressional leaders. But Paul Ryan’s political incompetence is by now a very old story.

Public Broadcasting Head Bemoans 'Fake News'

President Donald Trump's federal budget proposal has the head of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting lamenting "fake news," and criticizing attitudes towards rural viewers in testimony before Congress Tuesday.

"People in this country yearned for content they could trust. And where are we right now — we're living in this environment of 'fake news,'" CEO Patricia de Stacy Harrison told a House Appropriations subcommittee, according to the Washington Examiner.

"Eight of 10 Americans trust PBS at a time when the Trump administration delegitimizes any reporting it doesn't like as fake news. It's a transparent attempt to keep Americans in the dark about their failures and ethical improprieties," New York Democrat Nita Lowey said, according to Bloomberg.

Harrison added that there might be a "soft bigotry of low expectations," as former President George W. Bush once said, towards rural viewers who depend on public broadcasting.

Paul Ryan’s new plan to defund Planned Parenthood

March 28, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – Speaker of the House Rep. Paul Ryan says Republicans will defund Planned Parenthood via a budget reconciliation bill even though the American Healthcare Act (AHCA) that would have defunded the abortion giant failed.

"We think reconciliation is the tool, because that gets it in law. Reconciliation is the way to go," he said at a press conference today.

If it passed the U.S. House, the bill would only need 51 votes in the U.S. Senate.

Although the ACHA would have defunded Planned Parenthood, it's unclear whether other abortion funding restrictions in it would have survived strict Senate rules.

France's Le Pen Says the EU 'will die', Globalists to be Defeated

"The time has come to defeat globalists," she said.

The European Union will disappear, French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen told a rally on Sunday, promising to shield France from globalisation as she sought to fire up her supporters in the final four weeks before voting gets underway.

Buoyed by the unexpected election of Donald Trump in the United States and by Britain’s vote to leave the EU, the leader of the eurosceptic and anti-immigrant National Front (FN) party, told the rally in Lille that the French election would be the next step in what she called a global rebellion of the people.

“The European Union will die because the people do not want it anymore … arrogant and hegemonic empires are destined to perish,” Le Pen said to loud cheers and applause.

“The time has come to defeat globalists,” she said, accusing her main rivals, centrist Emmanuel Macron and conservative Francois Fillon, of “treason” for their pro-EU, pro-market policies.

Tired Of Promises, A Struggling Small Town Wants Problems Solved

There's a lot of talk about reviving small towns — especially in the rural Midwest, which Donald Trump carried easily. But many such towns, like Cairo, Ill., would see steep cuts in aid if the president's budget gains traction.

At the very southernmost tip of Illinois, the pancake flat cornfields give way to the rolling, forested hills of the Delta.

Here, at the windy confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers, it feels more southern than Midwest when you arrive at the old river port and factory town of Cairo, once made famous in Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

But Twain might not recognize Cairo today.

"People come through Cairo and say 'wow,' " says Phillip Matthews, a pastor and community activist.

In the past three decades, his hometown lost half its population. Alexander County is not only the poorest county in Illinois; it's also one of the fastest depopulating counties in the United States.

In Cairo, weeds creep up through the cracks in the old brick streets. Whole city blocks are condemned.

"I've watched for 40 years this city decline," Matthews says, on a recent tour.

Congressman Harris Applauds Attorney General’s Move to Enforce Federal Immigration Law in Sanctuary Cities

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) issued the following statement in support of Attorney General Sessions’ announcement that the Department of Justice (DOJ) will now require compliance with federal immigration law as a condition for receiving DOJ grants:

“I fully support the Attorney General’s position to deny future and claw-back current law enforcement funding from jurisdictions in the United States that fail to comply with federal immigration law. Unfortunately for Maryland, that means many jurisdictions will lose funding, including Baltimore County. The county stands to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in law enforcement grants from the Department of Justice as a result of its sanctuary policy, which places its residents at risk.”

U.S. Breweries Top 5,300 As Craft Beer Makers Ride Double-Digit Gains

The number of American breweries topped 5,000 for the first time last year, with craft beer makers accounting for 5,234 of 5,301 U.S. breweries, according to new figures from the Brewers Association.

Just five years ago, there were only around 2,000 U.S. craft brewers, which the Brewers Association defines as small or independent beer makers. Last year alone, more than 800 opened for business.

Compared to those increases, changes in the overall American beer market were less dramatic, the industry group says. While craft brewers managed to capture $23.5 billion of the money spent on beer last year — a 10 percent gain over 2015 — their volume share remained essentially flat, at 12.3 percent of the amount of beer sold in the U.S.

Governor Larry Hogan Condemns Bill Trapping Kids in Failing Schools

Legislation Jeopardizes $250 Million Per Year in Federal Funding, Weakens Accountability Standards, and Protects Failing Schools

ANNAPOLIS, MD -
Governor Larry Hogan today reaffirmed his commitment to veto legislation, misleadingly dubbed the “Protect Our Schools Act,” passed by the Maryland General Assembly that would weaken accountability standards used to determine school performance, prevent the state from intervening in failing schools for years, and severely limit the state's options for fixing failing schools.

The legislation – according to the legislature’s own fiscal analysts – jeopardizes $248.6 million each year in federal Title 1 funding if the low accountability standards mandated in the bill put Maryland out of compliance with federal standards. Baltimore City schools stand to lose $51 million per year in Title 1 funding, at a time when the legislature and city leadership are requesting additional state funding for schools.

“Members of the legislature just voted to trap thousands of our kids in failing schools and jeopardize over a billion dollars in education funding over the next five years – all to protect the teachers unions and preserve the unacceptable status quo. It’s an utter disgrace and one of the most irresponsible moves our legislature has ever made,” said Governor Hogan. “Just one day after we worked with the legislature to provide over $23 million in funding to Baltimore City schools, their own legislators just voted to potentially cost them $51 million this year alone and $250 million over five years – how can they justify that to their constituents?

Hogan optimistic legislation to boost manufacturing tax credits will pass

A bill aimed at expanding Maryland's manufacturing industry using accelerated depreciation and tax incentives has made its way through the Senate.

SB 317, or the More Jobs for Marylanders Act of 2017, passed with amendments on March 23, and only Sen. Roger Manno opposed the bill. The legislation is now pending a vote in the House of Representatives expected to take place this week, and a cross filed bill, HB 394, has yet to be voted on.

Gov. Larry Hogan publicly expressed his hope that the House will pass HB 394 without any amendments Tuesday morning at the headquarters of Marlin Steel Wire Products LLC, a Baltimore manufacturer. He believes the amendments made by the Senate weaken the legislation. One of the changes would no longer allow 10 years of tax breaks to new manufacturing companies that relocate to Maryland.

Welcome To The US Auto Market (aka The 'Trade-In Treadmill')

Most of you reading this are probably aware the U.S. auto market is a train wreck waiting to happen, but a recent report by Moody’s really puts the industry’s insane lending practices into perspective.

Reuters reports:

As U.S. auto sales have peaked, competition to finance car loans is set to intensify and drive increased credit risk for auto lenders, Moody’s Investors Service said in a report released on Monday.

“The combination of plateauing auto sales, growing negative equity from consumers and lenders’ willingness to offer flexible loan terms is a significant credit risk for lenders,” Jason Grohotolski, a senior credit officer at Moody’s and one of the report’s authors, told Reuters.

Motor vehicle sales have boomed in the years since the Great Recession. U.S. sales of new cars and trucks hit a record annual high of 17.55 million units in 2016.

Industry consultants J.D. Power and LMC Automotive on Friday reiterated their forecast for a 0.2 percent increase in sales in 2017 to 17.6 million vehicles.

But Moody’s says it expects U.S. new vehicle sales to decline slightly to 17.4 million units in 2017.

In the first nine months of 2016, around 32 percent of U.S. vehicle trade-ins carried outstanding loans larger than the worth of the cars, a record high, according to the specialized auto website Edmunds, as cited by Moody’s.

BREAKING: Stunning Update on Huma Abedine and Anthony Weiner

This is just incomprehensible. Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner are reportedly back together and working on their marriage. He burned her at least four times and the last time, he had his baby in bed with him. Sick. And get this… when they disagree, he goes and stays with mommy. Just pathetic. Their breakup was evidently for show because of pressure from Hillary Clinton and company. Why would anyone want to stay married to a perv loser like that? I don’t know who is sicker, him or her.

In 2013, having declared himself a candidate to be mayor of New York, other photos were published of Weiner sexting another woman under the name ‘Carlos Danger.’ Despite the revelation, Weiner did not pull out of the race and eventually finished fifth with just 4.9 percent of the vote. Do you know how humiliating that had to be for Huma? The last one was the worst, he was sending lewd photos to an underage girl. Did you know his parents mortgaged their home to put this dirt bag in rehab after that? What a waste all the way around.

Trump Asks Why Intelligence Committee Isn't Probing The Clintons

Following a day of drama involving the Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, Devin Nunes, who has been under constant onslaught by Democrats ever since his disclosure last week that Trump had indeed been the object of surveillance, and whose Democrat peer at the Intel panel, Adam Schiff, on Monday night called for Nunes to recuse himself, moments ago Trump waded into the news cycle when he asked on Twitter why the House Intelligence Committee is not investigating the Clintons for various ties of their own to Russia. He then slammed the ongoing anti-Russian witch hunt, saying "the Russia story is a hoax."

“Why isn't the House Intelligence Committee looking into the Bill & Hillary deal that allowed big Uranium to go to Russia, Russian speech, money to Bill, the Hillary Russian ‘reset,’ praise of Russia by Hillary, or Podesta Russian Company. Trump Russia story is a hoax. #MAGA!” Trump wrote in two tweets Monday night.
Why isn't the House Intelligence Committee looking into the Bill & Hillary deal that allowed big Uranium to go to Russia, Russian speech....
...money to Bill, the Hillary Russian "reset," praise of Russia by Hillary, or Podesta Russian Company. Trump Russia story is a hoax. !

Trump's rhetorical questions come amid a news cycle which as discussed on various occasions today has focused on the Republican chair of the Intel Committee, Nunes, who is under fire for briefing Trump about classified material he reviewed last week without sharing the information with committee Democrats. On Monday it was revealed that Nunes had secretly visited the White House grounds one day before announcing incidental surveillance of President Trump’s transition team. His visit raised questions about whether the White House could have been was the source of the intelligence Nunes reviewed.

CNN hammers Fox News for covering alleged gang rape of 14-year-old by illegal immigrant

CNN’s Brian Stelter condemned Fox News for covering the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old Maryland high school student by at least one illegal immigrant.

He said coverage of rape is normally reserved for the local news and suggested Fox News is only covering this one because of the ongoing debate about illegal immigration.

“Rapes and assaults and murders are local news stories on a daily basis,” Mr. Steltersaid Sunday on CNN’s “Reliable Sources.” “But when do they break through to become national news, and when do they not? This week the health care bill in talks in the House dominated cable news coverage all over the place, but Fox News also focused heavily on another story, and sometimes tying it to the president’s immigration agenda.”

Jose O. Montano, 17, and Henry Sanchez-Milian, 18, are accused of gang raping a 14-year-old classmate at Rockville High School earlier this month.

After the girl rebuffed Mr. Montano’s sexual advances in the hallway, he allegedly forced her into an empty boy’s restroom stall, began undressing her and took turns raping her with Mr. Sanchez-Milian, according to court documents.

MD Assembly votes to block opening oyster sanctuaries to harvest

Maryland lawmakers voted Tuesday to temporarily block any changes to the state’s oyster sanctuaries, effectively halting a move by the Hogan administration to open some of them to commercial harvest next fall.

By a vote of 32 to 14, the Senate gave final approval to a bill barring adjustments to sanctuary boundaries until the Department of Natural Resources finishes an assessment of the state’s oyster population, expected late next year.

The same measure passed the House two weeks ago, 102-39, so it now goes to Gov. Larry Hogan. Once it reaches his desk, he has six days to sign or veto it, or let it become law without his signature. Though his administration opposed the bill, it received enough votes in each chamber to override his veto.

Why Uncle Sam wants to know your ‘gender identity’ in the 2020 Census

The Census Bureau said Tuesday it wants to explicitly ask Americans about their sexual orientation and “gender identity” in the 2020 census, marking the first time it would probe for that information.

The bureau made the announcement as part of its proposed topics it submitted to Congress, teasing the issue in a single line inside an appendix.

A spokeswoman said she couldn’t say why the bureau wanted to prod Americans on that question.

It is the only new subject area the census has asked to include, and would join longstanding questions ranging from age, marital status and occupation.

The census currently gives a snapshot of same-sex households, which has been used as an approximation of gay couples.

White House slams ‘entirely false’ report it tried block Yates from testifying on Russia

The White House Tuesday denounced as “entirely false” a news report that the Trump administration tried to prevent former acting Attorney General Sally Yates from testifying to the House Intelligence Committee about Russia.

In a statement, the White House said it “has taken no action to prevent Sally Yates from testifying and the Department of Justice specifically told her that it would not stop her and to suggest otherwise is completely irresponsible.”

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said an article on the matter in The Washington Post “is entirely false.”

Mr. Spicer said the White House counsel’s office was given a deadline of March 27 to respond with any objections toMs. Yates testifying, and didn’t respond.

“We encouraged them to go ahead. That’s the story,” he said.

Rockville High School student says she was beaten by another student inside school

ROCKVILLE, Md. - The family of a Rockville High School senior student said their daughter was attacked and beaten at the school earlier this month. The incident happened just nine days before an alleged rape was reported by a 14-year-old girl by two classmates – a case that has gained attention locally and nationally.

Now, the family of the senior student is questioning Montgomery County Public Schools and Rockville High School's commitment to student safety.

The brutal beating, which was captured on cell phone video by other students, has left the 17-year-old girl unable to return to school because of the severity of her physical and emotional injuries.

Britain officially triggers Brexit

Britain has officially begun the process of leaving the European Union, Prime Minister Theresa May said Wednesday as she hailed the juncture as a “historic moment.”

May’s remarks came after European Council President Donald Tusk received the hand-delivered letter from the British ambassador to the EU, Tim Barrow, which triggered Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, formally starting the Brexit process.

“The Article 50 process is now under way and in accordance with the wishes of the British people, the United Kingdom is leaving the European Union,” May told lawmakers in the House of Commons.

Week Eleven: Gaining Ground

Gaining Ground for Wicomico

Week eleven of the Legislative Session began with Chamber Crossover Date on Monday where we spent all day voting on bills in House Chamber so that they could move over and be introduced in the Senate.

Our Wicomico County Delegation bill, regarding Sunday hunting, passed in the House this week and will be heard in the Senate Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee on April 4. We are hopeful that the Senate will also pass it and we’re working hard to see that it does.

We met with the Director of Maryland Environmental Service, Roy McGrath to discuss a possible apprenticeship program for the State. Roy was one of the Governor’s former Deputy Chiefs of Staff and it was great to see him receive this appointment so that our office can continue working with him in his new role.

We had the opportunity to participate in “Foster Youth in Annapolis Shadow Day”. This allowed our office the pleasure of welcoming our new friend, Allayah, from Parkside High School. She tagged along with us and saw how things operate in the office and in the Environment and Transportation Committee.
We attended the Board of Public Works meeting on Wednesday where we discussed the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex in Salisbury, the John A. Luetkemeyer, Sr. and Thomas F. Mullen, Jr. Legacy Center at the Ward Museum of Wildlife Art, and the Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Governor released his supplemental budget on Friday which includes the funding for our stadium’s upgrades and we are hopeful that the funding will remain intact through the legislative process. I posted video from the hearing on my Facebook page and encourage you to watch.
On Friday students from North Salisbury Elementary visited the State House. It was a great visit that coincided with our celebration of Maryland Day. I joined Governor Hogan, Senate President Miller, and Speaker Busch in welcoming people to the lobby area before a press conference celebrating Maryland Day and the unveiling of portraits of the Lords Baltimore.
These portraits are on loan from the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore and are hanging in the State House. We have a wonderful State House that is steeped in not just Maryland history, but also American history. I invite everyone to visit.
Our 2017 Scholarship Application is now available! If you live in District 38B and are interested in applying, please send an email to Carl.Anderton@house.state.md.us. Applicants must have plans to attend college in Maryland.

Important Legislation Ensures A Continued Strong, Thriving Workforce, Without Leaving Any Jurisdiction Behind

“We still have Marylanders who are struggling in parts of our state like Baltimore City, Western Maryland, and the Lower Eastern Shore, where, unfortunately, unemployment is still higher than it is in the rest of the state. Which is why we must come together to enact the Maryland Jobs Initiative, an innovative, bipartisan proposal, which will provide incentives for the creation of thousands of jobs in the places that need them the most.” - Governor Larry Hogan, February 2, 2017

More Jobs For Marylanders Act Of 2017

Governor Hogan’s More Jobs For Marylanders Act Of 2017 Will Provide Increased Employment Opportunities To Areas Of The State That Need It Most. “Gov. White Self-Hatred Safe Space at Loyola University Chicago

How much would it cost to check into a state hospital for 4 years? Probably less than tuition at Loyola University Chicago. Otherwise, you might not know the difference:

Students who “self identify as White” at Loyola University Chicago can apply to join a safe space to learn about white privilege, institutional racism, and internalized racism.

The safe space is entitled Ramblers Analyzing Whiteness.

Members of the group, who are chosen through an application process, participate in six two-hour sessions on safe spaces, white privilege, cycles of oppression, and bystander intervention.

Don’t worry, persons of color aren’t excluded. You don’t have to be white; you just have to “self-identify” as white. Michael Jackson would have qualified. Not Rachel Dolezal though.

A major objective is to instill a sense of guilt in white people over their “privilege,” no matter how disadvantaged they may actually be outside the realm of moonbat ideology. An enthusiastic testimonial:

“‘I struggled too; I’m not privileged’. that’s [sic] what I always thought, but that’s not what White Privilege means,” student Angee Serwin recalled. “Simply because I am White, I already carry a privilege that I didn’t even try for.”
