Mitchell's youth programs will find a new home - with Salisbury's help

Joe Albero I disagree Bill Baker. Hal Chernoff, (Main Street Gym) has EARNED such a gift but has been ignored by the City and County for decades.

Joe Albero What's racist is your attack on me. It became perfectly clear when you said, "we know you don’t like our people". Own it.
Joe Albero All I was saying is that the City never did anything for Hal, (Main Street Gym). I'm not at all knocking what this group does. I'll add, Hal does a lot for "our people" and deserved the same opportunity. As for the above negative and even racist comment, it's taxpayer money. At least Hal reaches out to the community like Pohanka and doesn't depend on our tax dollars.

WCSO Press Release 12-5-17 PNC Bank Robbery

Incident: Bank Robbery

Date of Incident: 12/05/17

Location: PNC Bank, 1512 S. Salisbury Blvd, Salisbury, MD

Suspect: Robert Lee Hornsby Jr. 38 years old, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On December 5, 2017 at approximately 1040HRS, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to the PNC Bank
located at 1512 S. Salisbury BLVD, Salisbury, Maryland in reference to a robbery that had just occurred.

The investigation revealed that a white male, later identified as Robert Lee Hornsby Jr, had entered the bank and handed a bank teller a note demanding money and indicating he had a firearm. Hornsby fled the area in a black Chrysler 200 vehicle. The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office notified allied police
agencies of the vehicle and suspect description. During a canvass of the area, Salisbury Police Department detectives located Hornsby and his vehicle in the area of RT 13 and Vine Street. SPD detectives attempted to make contact with Hornsby. Hornsby fled in his vehicle. Units from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the Salisbury Police Department pursued Hornsby. Maryland State Police also assisted. The pursuit traveled through Salisbury and ended in the area of RT 50 and RT 50 Bypass, near White Lowe Road. Pursing units forced Hornsby to stop his vehicle. Hornsby purposely rear ended a WCSO Department vehicle during the forced stop, causing minor property damage.

Robert Lee Hornsby Jr was arrested and is in the custody of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office
pending transfer to WCDC.

Charges: Robbery, Theft, Assault 2nd, Assault 1st, and Resisting arrest

Is this an indictment of the Wicomico County Board of Education?

By Thornton Crowe

People don't just slip through cracks... it's through others' negligence, criminal teachers have access to your children. Concerned?

Granted, we must grant the presumption of innocence to any defendant and Monica Snee is no exception; however, what does this say about the Wicomico County Board of Education and their vetting process for teachers and others within the schools who are around your children day in and day out?

While the WCBOE does do an FBI background check with fingerprints and all on teachers and substitutes, it's clearly not enough to prevent your child from being subject to an teaching drug dealer. Obviously, it would appear with this particular hiring, the powers that be didn't scrutinize any local court records for any criminal behavior. It also proves they don't do continual background follow-up like federal agencies perform on their employees (and families) every 3-4 years.

Is it really enough for your children's teachers to not be just child molesters?

All we ever hear about is the teachers who make inappropriate sexual advances and situations of extreme like the Snee case but nothing is ever said about other behaviors that would likely violate ethics clauses and cause parents to be concerned about who is around and teaching their kids for 6-7 hours a day, five days a week, 9 months a year. That's a lot of face time to not be worried about the possible criminality a teacher could be imparting on your kids.

This lack of due diligence isn't just happening in education. The medical field has the same problem in their vetting. You would be shocked at some of the medical personnel sent to people's homes to care for the elderly who possess misdemeanor convictions for identity theft and simple robbery. Earlier this summer, we saw where one Dove Point residential care person was indicted for first degree murder. Yet, many agencies still employ these people because they hold the appropriate licenses to provide home healthcare and nursing home facilities and are not on the federal law enforcement radar.

How many other teachers are out there with issues like protective orders for domestic violence or drug dealing convictions or identity theft? Do we even know? Does anyone at the WCBOE even know? Can we really depend on the local Board of Education to vet teachers or do we now have to it ourselves at the beginning of every school? Isn't that what we pay them to do with our tax money - regardless of whether we have school-age children or not?

Young People Say Calling Them a ‘Snowflake’ Damages Their Mental Health

A new survey reveals that young people believe being called a “snowflake” could be damaging to their mental health.

A new survey by insurance firm Aviva found that 72 percent of 16 to 24-year-olds believethe term “snowflake” is unfairly applied to millennials. 74 percent of respondents took it a step farther, arguing that they believe the use of the label could have a negative effect on young people’s mental health.

The study was born out of interest in the term “snowflake generation” which was originally used to describe young people who thought they were unique or special. Some suggest it was popularized by a line in the 1996 novel Fight Club and its 1999 film adaptation: “you are not special, you are not a beautiful and unique snowflake.” The word’s meaning eventually evolved to mean “overly-sensitive.” It is often used to describe college students who claim that they are offended by controversial or even mundane ideas.

Mayor Jake Day, aka "Party Boy"

I received an e-mail recently asking if I could research the financial information for Jake Day's Christmas Party where over 400 people/employees attended.

Jake spent over $14,000.00 of taxpayer money to hold a Christmas Party. While there was a cash bar, I also learned they spent close to $4,000.00 in alcohol.

Millions committed to a Festival, $100,000.00 committed to an after school program where there's been no background checks and now $14,000.00 on a Christmas Party. Go ahead people, elect another Liberal, including Jack Heath and see where else they can take you.

Maryland starts medical marijuana sales after years of delays

Medical marijuana sales started Friday in the state of Maryland following nearly five years of delays.

Maryland’s then-governor Martin O’Malley signed a bill legalizing medical marijuana in 2013, but bureaucratic hold -ups prevented dispensaries from actually selling the plant until Friday, December 1.

Regulators said they will authorize 102 dispensaries to operate within the state, and 10 of them were fully licensed to do as business as of Friday, according to the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission website.

At least 200 potential customers lined up outside Rockville’s first medical marijuana dispensary, Potomac Holistics, including some patients who traveled more than an hour to legally purchase the plant when the shop received its first cannabis shipment Friday afternoon, The Washington Post reported.

Get Ready for Concealed Guns in All 50 States

House panel approves law that will allow firearms-owners to cross any state line with a hidden weapon.

The National Rifle Association has called the concealed carry bill, which would make it easier for gun owners to keep their firearms hidden when crossing state lines, its “highest legislative priority in Congress.” Despite concerns raised by Democrats about states’ rights and domestic violence, the Republican-controlled Congress has pushed the proposal one step closer to becoming law.

The House Judiciary Committee late Wednesday voted 19-11 for the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, which would amend the federal criminal code to allow the concealed transport of handguns across state lines, so long as both states allow it. States will not be able to impose their individual requirements for a concealed carry license on armed travelers from other states.

Heavy marijuana users showing up at the ER 'scromiting'

Chronic cannabis users are at risk of experiencing a horrifying new condition that is being reported at hospitals across the United States where marijuana is legal.

'Scromiting,' doctors say, is becoming an all-too-familiar site at emergency rooms, with patients 'screaming and vomiting' as they turn up for help.

The condition, called Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS), is not properly understood but medical experts believe the symptoms appear from individuals using or consuming heavy amounts of marijuana over a long period of time.

Could This Commenter Be Right?

Yes. While you old people bent over and took a big one from the government for the last 60 years now we will fix it. No respect at all for the last 60 years of your lack of everything. Our generation respects the person, not the group party gender age etc... All your 60+ elected officials you voted in have crushed this country. Their are no 25 year old officials in Congress. So yes you are to blame. Suck it up buttercup and take blame where blame is due.

While most people may get angry at reading what this younger person said, they're actually onto something. It is the older generations that got us into this mess. It's been candidates promising us JOBS and telling us everything we want to hear. However, here's the major problem from the local level all the way up to the President. While their INTENTIONS may be good, there's extremely seasoned representatives already in office who have an agenda and their only ONE vote.

The next thing that happens is the massive funding by lobbyists that makes it very difficult for these newly elected officials to go up against the seasoned politicians who have an agenda.

This is why so many people say we need to clean house. When Donald Trump got elected, every one of these politicians and yes, the Media never experienced someone who simply wanted to drain the swamp and expose these crooked politicians. Trump is the first step towards cleaning the house and we need a LOT more elected officials just like him.

If you think the Welfare and Food Stamp programs are out of control, believe me,  that's NOTHING! Special interests are getting so rich it's scary. Starting with your local City and County Council's, we too need to clean house and support the very people who firmly believe in and support Donald Trump's agenda. People like Mike McDermott.

As far as I'm personally concerned, the commenter is right. I also believe we need to fight HARD against those who believe in the Liberal agenda. We need to get our country back and stop entitling the very people who refuse to go to work and support themselves.

Like what the commenter said or not, the time is now to come together and change all of our elected officials from the local level on up.
