Major Post Tomorrow

In the past I've exposed some pretty big stuff like the Salisbury Waste Water Treatment Plant, the Salisbury Zoo, Discrimination at the Salisbury Fire Department and the list goes on and on.

Although many people didn't like the fact that I exposed so many things going wrong, that's a part of accountability and tomorrow will start a brand new series in which Salisbury News will once again break wide open another department that is screwing up left and right and we're not going to stop until people either quit or someone takes this project head on and straightens it out, just like the rest.

For those involved and who think they can squirm out of things, WRONG! Just ask some of the other FORMER Department Heads that are no longer with the City. Laws have been broken and customized to fit certain wants and needs and it will end tomorrow.

Another dissatisfied customer, I'm sure. LOL

PUBLIC NOTICE

The City of Salisbury Department of Community Development is proposing a budgetary amendment to one of its existing Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) projects. The city will be accepting written comments on this proposed amendment until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2008.

In CDBG program year 2005, Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Service (SNHS) was awarded $50,000 for their Principal Write-Down Assistance Program. This program provides assistance in the form of a second mortgage that is tied to a lien on the property, thereby reducing the buyer’s mortgage payments to an affordable level, and enabling them to become first-time homeowners. The amount of the lien is reduced by a set amount each year, and if the homeowner sells or refinances the property at any time before the lien is released, the amount remaining on the lien is recaptured.

One of the SNHS Principal Write-Down Assistance units generated $19,000 in CDBG Program Income when a client elected to refinance their property after one year of occupancy, and was required to pay back the amount remaining on the lien. The Community Development Department is proposing to award these program income funds back to SNHS so that they may be used to provide a new client with a Principal Write-Down Assistance grant.

Written comments on this proposed amendment may be mailed to the City of Salisbury, Department of Community Development, 125 North Division Street, Salisbury, MD 21801. If you have any questions you may contact the Department of Community Development at (410) 334-3031.

BLUE LIGHTS IN GOVERNMENT OFFICE BUILDING HONOR FALLEN POLICE OFFICERS

Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr. has ordered a single blue light candle placed in Government Office Building windows during the holiday season. These replace the standard white light candles usually seen during this season. Pollitt explained that “Project Blue Light” has grown steadily across America as a way of remembering departed law enforcement officers. “It began in 1988,” said Pollitt, “when the mother-in-law of a Philadelphia police officer killed in the line of duty told COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors) members that she would place a blue light in her window over the holidays in memory of her son-in-law.”

Pollitt added that “the blue lights also honor those who serve us in law enforcement. In the past year, I have been made acutely aware of the hazards of this dangerous profession. We should all have great appreciation for what they do for us.”

COUNTY EXECUTIVE ANNOUNCES CHRISTMAS EVE HOLIDAY

County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr. has announced that Monday, December 24th, will be a holiday for county workers. In making the announcement, Pollitt said, “I am pleased to reward our hard-working county employees with an extra day off at this time of year when it’s so important to be with family.”

Mr. Pollitt said that he consulted with the Wicomico County Council about the extra holiday.

WOW!

This was a recent comment:

It seems that the SFD waits until after a tragic fire to finally put some time into fire prevention. Our department received many calls prior to fire prevention week from schools and day care centers in the Salisbury area asking if we would come out to talk about fire prevention, since they were told by the SFD that "they did not have time for that". After having the courtesy to ask the SFD if it was ok with them to come in to their district, we were told to "help ourselves, as they did not have time for that".

A lot of kids in Salisbury only see their Firefighters and paramedics when something bad happens. At one of these events I was told by an 8 year old child that "our fireman never come to see us". These children need to know that they can trust their fireman, and that they are there to help them. Perhaps the SFD needs to take some of the 10+ million that they are spending on a new firehouse that will deliver a slower response time to the city, and hire a PR person to see that these kind of things get done.

In our district, we canvas our area door to door each year offering to check and/or install a free smoke detector, or to change the batteries. We get a lot of appreciation from our community, and a lot of self satisfaction for performing this task each year. We know that by doing this, we are giving our citizens their best chance for a safe escape if fire should strike their home.

Fatal fires will never go away, but it is the duty of all firefighters, wether paid or volunteer, to help prevent these tragedies from occuring.

The SFD does a GREAT job of responding to and mitigating the emergencies that they face each day. The problems ARE NOT with the people that ride the apparatus every day. The problems are at the TOP.

Cheech & Chong Shoot New Up In Smoke Movie In Salisbury

As They Go "Cruzin Down De Blvd." they SLOWLY cruise past Sheriff Mike Lewis with that silly little laugh, Noooooo Wayyyyyy Mmmannnnnnn! SHAME ON TARGET?

TARGET Corporation is moving into a brand new store in Easton, MD. TARGET has hired Conlon Construction Co. to perform carpentry work at this new location.

Conlon Construction Co. pays its carpentry employees substantially less the the wage and benefit standards established by the Carpenters Union and recognized by the surrounding communities as the area standard.

"EXPECT MORE. PAY LESS!"

We didn't realize they were talking about people trying to earn a decent living so they could shop in their stores! TARGET CORPORATION is WRONG for helping to destroy area standards. SHAME on TARGET!

This was the message Carpenters Local Union 2012 is spreading while they picket the local Salisbury TARGET store. This should get good!!!!!!!

More Irresponsible Hunters

This morning I found these two deer carcases left on the road side once again. Hunters absolutely need to act more responsible and stop pulling this kind of crap. My only hope is, when and if the Police catch these people doing this, they fine the crap out of them so others get the message. The first two photos were on Jersey Road and the bottom two were on Spring Hill Lane.

The Daily Times Fails To Deliver Again Today

Did YOU get YOUR Daily Late & A Dollar Short Times today?

One Year Ago Today

While the Old Mall Developers were trying to sell the County Council on a $5,000,000.00 Parking Lot TIF, the County Council wasn't buying it! Even former Council President Mike Dunn made an attempt to sell them on why it was vital for them to pay 800% more money for a parking lot than it was worth, it made everyone wonder just what in the hell the City Council President was doing there helping the Mall Owners sell the idea on the County, unless there was something in it for him?

Mike Dunn was beside himself when the County Council said, BITE ME, we're not buying it. He pouted for what seemed like weeks afterwards and probably never got over it. Oh well, it is what it is but I thought I'd share some of these photos to remind everyone just how fortunate we are to no longer have Mike Dunn as Council President. Then again.............

Salisbury Fire Department Delivers

What started out as a great gesture, turned into a Media Photo Op for the SFD. Each Fire Department came to the Washington Street Neighborhood about an hour after they were expected to arrive and started knocking on doors at 8:00 PM. Their ETA was originally supposed to be at 7:00 PM but something delayed their arrival, I don't know what that was.

However, as Fire Fighters were knocking on the same doors another group had just knocked on a few minutes earlier, I was surprised that they weren't on different streets and spread out a whole lot more? Nevertheless, each pack had camera men there taking pictures and it was obvious the Fire Department had called in Channel 16, WBOC to cover their every move as well.

The intention was good, on film it looks great but IMO the effectiveness was horrible and unorganized. Chief See and other higher ranking Officers stood in the School Parking Lot the entire time and never hit the beat. I'm not knocking him, or the Fire Fighters. If they couldn't recognize this was a PR move for the SFD, then they're not too smart.

Like I said, I would have liked to have seen far more people show up to volunteer and even I approached one group and asked, can I help in any way? Can I carry anything for you? Being that they started at 8:00 PM, I don't think they were capable of hitting too many doors but I thank all those people involved trying to make a positive difference within that community.

Let me put my money where my mouth is. If the SFD would like to continue patrolling the streets in any neighborhood attempting to offer smoke detectors, I'd be happy to help in any way they seem fit? This should not be a one hour attempt while flashes go off everywhere, even on me personally. One Fire Fighter thought he could be smart and snap pictures of me being there.

Look, this is NOT The Daily Times where I sell fluff. I saw what I saw. Your intentions were god but this was a Media Ploy to boost the SFD. You know, kind of like bringing roses home to the Wife after you came home the night before with perfume on your neck. Oh, and that BS comment where you exhausted all of the Smoke Detectors you had with you, PLEASE! I was there listening to people answer their doors. Unless you only brought 3 or 4 with you, I'm not buying it.

It was kind of cool watching Fire Fighters get invited into some homes to inspect their smoke detectors already in place. I did speak to several neighbors who were asking what was going on. They were concerned that maybe there was a fire or something. Once I explained what they were doing they were really cool about it.

If it continues tonight, tomorrow night and several nights to follow, then I'll personally believe this was truly intended to help the citizens to better protect their Families. If it was a one knight stand, what a crock. If anyone out there gets a knock on their door this evening or the following, etc., please let me know because accountability is important here, saving lives is critical. I have no problem ever saying I was wrong. In the mean time, I'm not buying it.
