Report: Social Security Still Paying Millions to 100s of Dead

Social Security will shell out millions this year to people it knows are dead, The Washington Times reported Wednesday.

According to the news outlet, an Inspector General's audit found, although Social Security had clear evidence of death for 678 people, the system still cut $20 million in checks for them.

Worse yet, 53 of those people were identified in audits in 2009 and 2013 and were still getting benefits when the IG reviewed their cases last year.

WH: Trump Ripping Media Hypocrisy, Not Defending Barr

President Donald Trump is not defending Roseanne Barr's racist tweet that got her rebooted television show canceled by ABC, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Wednesday, "he's simply pointing out the bias" in the media against him and his administration.

"The president is pointing to the hypocrisy in the media saying that the most horrible things about this president and nobody addresses it," Sanders told reporters at the daily briefing.

In a Wednesday tweet, Trump noted that Robert Iger, CEO of Walt Disney Co., which owns ABC, called Valerie Jarrett to say the network would not condone Barr's bigoted tweet Tuesday about the former top Obama aide.

Melania Trump Slams Conspiracy Theorists; Says Shes at WH With Her Family

First Lady Melania Trump addressed media reports about her living situation by saying she's at the White House with her family.

Trump, who recently had surgery to treat a benign kidney condition and spent several days in the hospital, posted this tweet Wednesday afternoon:

Some media reports have speculated that Trump is not living in the White House and is instead staying with her parents nearby. The same report, written by The Washington Post, also claimed that the first lady sleeps in a different bedroom than President Donald Trump.

NY Grand Jury Indicts Weinstein on Rape, Sex Crime Charges

A Manhattan grand jury voted Wednesday to indict disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein on rape and sex crime charges, prosecutors announced.

The move is the next step in efforts by New York prosecutors to bring the former Tinseltown powerbroker to trial for alleged sex crimes.

He was initially charged last week in what was hailed a landmark for the #MeToo movement, nearly eight months after his career imploded in a blaze of accusations of misconduct.

Drugged Driving Deaths Spike With Spread of Legal Marijuana, Opioid Abuse

As legal marijuana spreads and the opioid epidemic rages on, the number of drugged drivers killed in car crashes is rising dramatically, according to a report released today.

Forty-four percent of fatally injured drivers tested for drugs had positive results in 2016, the Governors Highway Safety Association found, up more than 50 percent compared with a decade ago. More than half the drivers tested positive for marijuana, opioids or a combination of the two.

“These are big-deal drugs. They are used a lot,” said Jim Hedlund, an Ithaca, New York-based traffic safety consultant who conducted the highway safety group’s study. “People should not be driving while they’re impaired by anything and these two drugs can impair you.”

Nine states and Washington, D.C., allow marijuana to be sold for recreational and medical use, and 21 others allow it to be sold for medical use. Opioid addiction and overdoses have become a national crisis, with an estimated 115 deaths a day.

House Split On Immigration Might Be Good Politics For Some Moderate Republicans

House Republican leaders are struggling to contain a growing split within their party over immigration policy. But for some vulnerable moderates breaking from some of the GOP's hardest-line proposals could be the key to avoiding defeat in November.

Californian Steve Knight is one of nearly two dozen House Republicans who have signed on to a petition to force the House to vote on immigration proposals as early as next month. The plan is to allow the House to vote on at least four bills, including a pathway to citizenship that many conservatives hate.

That plan frustrates House leaders who worry a messy fight on immigration will divide the party and boost Democrats' chances of winning control of the House in November. But Knight said Monday in an interview at a Memorial Day event in his home district that he is confident that it's better for him if they at least try to pass some immigration legislation.

"This is doing probably one of the hardest things in America that we've ever tried to do," Knight said. "I understand that, but I think we have the votes to get something done."

Conservatives see Double Standard on Roseanne

Conservatives on Twitter lashed out following the swift cancellation of Roseanne Barr's hit ABC program after here racist tweet, citing a double-standard in entertainment for those who are conservative or support President Trump.

The right-leaning critics took particular aim at ESPN’s decision to hire Keith Olbermann and MSNBC’s continued employment of Joy Reid. Both have made provocative comments in the past.

ABC canceled Barr’s show after she wrote a tweet that referred to former Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett as a product of the “The Planet of the Apes” and “the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Facebook to build Data Center..$150M Tax Incentive

Eagle Mountain • Social media giant Facebook is set to bring its next data center here. Utah government leaders revealed the company’s identity Wednesday after months of closed-door negotiations.

The project, publicly known only as “Steeplechase” before Thursday’s announcement, includes roughly $150 million in property tax incentives for Facebook, which in turn will invest $100 million in road and utility enhancements for Utah County’s west side.

Facebook will also benefit from a sales tax exemption approved by lawmakers in 2016 and intended to lure data-center development to the state.

Hillary's Premonition

The facts emerging in the ongoing investigations into the apparent abuses of the FISA warrant process by the Democrats to spy on Donald Trump raise grave questions about those involved. The outline taking shape is of a well orchestrated plot to elect Hillary Clinton and, failing that, to delegitimize Donald Trump's presidency. The conspirators involved in this effort to subvert our Republic used the legal and technological apparatus of the state, as well as outside smear merchants, in their effort. One question that arises is what should happen to those found guilty of participating in such a plot. And in hindsight, we should ask ourselves if Hillary Clinton telegraphed her own concern over her fate during the presidential campaign.

On September 7, 2016, Hillary took part in an interview with then-NBC host Matt Lauer in something called the "Commander-in-Chief Forum." Lauer asked Clinton some apparently unexpected questions about her judgment in using a personal, unsecure email server to traffic highly classified information. Clinton reportedly flew into a rage at Lauer's impertinence and turned her wrath on her campaign staff members. An executive from Comcast (which owns NBC) reportedly recounted a description of Clinton's explosive outburst provided to him by NBC executives who were on the set and claimed to have witnessed the tirade. Clinton reportedly threw a water glass at an assistant and excoriated then-top Democratic National Committee official Donna Brazile, saying, "I'm so sick of your face. You stare at the wall like a brain-dead buffalo, while letting that [f‑‑‑‑‑‑] Lauer get away with this." Mrs. Clinton felt she had been sandbagged by Lauer's question on the email server, which had not been pre-approved by Clinton's campaign staff.

Most tellingly, for the purposes of this discussion, Mrs. Clinton reportedly said to her aides during her rant: "If that [f‑‑‑‑‑‑] bastard [Trump] wins, we all hang from nooses!"

Five ways JFK was remarkably ahead of his time

John F. Kennedy may have been the youngest president elected to office, but he displayed wisdom beyond his years and forward-thinking ahead of his time. Today, on what would have been his 101st birthday, we examine the ways.

Like many Irish Americans, I was raised with an abiding sense of JFK as “our president.” My grandparents owned a portrait of him, and all my relatives who were old enough can recall exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard the tragic news of his assassination.

Developing a fuller sense of who he was as a president and a person has come more gradually, and the most detailed portrait yet took shape during a recent visit to theJFK Presidential Library and Museum in his native Boston.

How Old Is Old Enough to Get Married?

States are raising the age of consent to protect children from forced marriage. No state has gone as far as Delaware.

Child marriages are more common than you think. Roughly 200,000 minors have gotten married since the start of the century. Nearly 90 percent of those child marriages involve a young bride, under the age of 18, and an older man -- sometimes decades older. Under such circumstances, says Arizona state Rep. Michelle Ugenti-Rita, “it’s not difficult to think of all the potential abuses.”

Legislators have heard testimony from women who were forced to marry their rapists when they were as young as 11. There have also been scattered reports of marriage being used as a tool in child trafficking. Ugenti-Rita sponsored a new law, enacted in April, which banned marriages for children under the age of 16, while requiring 16- and 17-year-olds to receive permission from their parents. When a minor is getting married, the age gap between the bride and groom, under the new law, can be no greater than three years.

Advocacy groups such as the Tahirih Justice Center and Unchained At Last are pushing states to raise the minimum age for marriage to 18, without exceptions. Last month, Delaware became the first state to fully ban child marriage, even with parental approval. But it’s proving to be a tough sell elsewhere. Lawmakers have shown themselves open to imposing higher age limits and to adding safeguards for minors allowed to marry, such as parental consent. Florida and Kentucky both passed laws this year raising the floor for child marriages to 17 and 18, respectively, following similar actions taken since 2016 in Connecticut, New York, Texas and Virginia.

Report: Sessions Is Key Witness in Mueller Inquiry into Trump Obstruction

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is reportedly a key witness in Robert Mueller’s inquiry into whether President Donald J. Trump obstructed the Russia investigation.

During a March 2017 meeting at Mar-a-Lago, President Trump asked Sessions to unrecuse himself from the collusion probe — a request the Attorney General declined.

“The confrontation, which has not been previously reported, is being investigated by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, as are the president’s public and private attacks on Mr. Sessions and efforts to get him to resign. Mr. Trump dwelled on the recusal for months, according to confidants and current and former administration officials who described his behavior toward the attorney general,” reports the New York Times.

Special counsel lawyers have grilled White House aides about the President’s relationship with Sessions in an effort to learn whether the Attorney General acted in any way to influence the investigation. Eight questions that the special counsel would like President Trump to answer focus on his relationship with Sessions.

Police Need Warrants to Search Cars in Driveways, Rules High Court

The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the Constitution's privacy protection to include vehicles that are parked on a home's driveway or carport, ruling that police need a search warrant before they may inspect them.

In general, police may look closely at cars that are parked along public roads, without the need for a search warrant.

But in Tuesday's 8-1 ruling, the justices said a vehicle parked in a carport or on private property adjacent to a home deserves the privacy protection of the 4th Amendment.

"When a law enforcement officer physically intrudes" on private property and walks up to a house to look for evidence, "a search within the meaning of the 4th Amendment has occurred," wrote Justice Sonia Sotomayor in Collins vs. Virginia. "Such conduct thus is presumptively unreasonable without a warrant."

Facing Criminal Charges and Sex Scandal, Missouri Gov. Greitens Resigns. Meet His Replacement.

Five months after a sex and blackmail scandal broke, Gov. Eric Greitens will resign facing potential criminal charges. His replacement, a conservative with good lawmaker relations, is likely to achieve what Greitens could not.

Missouri is switching governors. It would be difficult to find a replacement as different from outgoing Gov. Eric Greitens as Mike Parson, the state's lieutenant governor.

Parson is a much more conventional politician than Greitens, a former Navy SEAL who had never held an elected position before and announced his resignation on Tuesday, five months after news broke about a sex and blackmail scandal.

Greitens faced possible impeachment. He left office as part of a plea deal to get criminal charges of illegally obtaining a campaign donor list dismissed, according to the St. Louis prosecutor's office. Earlier on Tuesday, a judge ruled that Greitens and his allies have to comply with a Missouri House subpoena regarding his dark money campaign groups. He could also still be charged with an invasion-of-privacy felony in connection with his extramarital affair.

Greitens was a brash and combative political outsider. His manner of attacking legislators, including fellow Republicans, left him without political cover once he was embroiled in scandal.

Parson, on the other hand, has long been a familiar presence at the Capitol, having served in both legislative chambers.

What's Hillary Hiding about Her Health?

Hillary Clinton is either the gift that keeps on giving or else like houseguests who overstayed their welcome, depending on your perspective. For Republicans, her continued presence in the public eye, whining and complaining about the election, providing a new excuse each week, is an electoral gift, as she is one of the faces of the modern Democratic Party.

Along with Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi, these three are the witches of Macbeth, circled around a CNN microphone chanting, "Double, double, toil and trouble, Trump's a pig, stole the election, and should be impeached." Sorry for the non-rhyme; maybe Jesse Jackson can help with that part of the incantation.

If Democrats hope to beat Trump in 2020, or take either house of Congress in November, they need fresh ideas besides Russia and Stormy and a new face of the party rather than a two-time loser who is quite unlikeable. And there is still the nagging issue about her health.

The media are willing and eager to look in every nook and cranny for evidence of Trump-Russian collusion, and to date, they have come up with nothing. But which journalists have investigated Mrs. Clinton's health? The presidency is a demanding job with a similarly vigorous campaign required to earn the votes to become president. Mrs. Clinton failed in the campaign. How would she have done as president?

Priests say Catholics who voted Yes on abortion can not be wed in Church

Two Northern Ireland priests said those who advocated to change Ireland’s restrictive abortion laws should not be “hypocritical and dishonest” on their wedding day.

Two Northern Ireland priests have said Catholics who voted Yes in the Eighth Amendment abortion referendum, which was won by 66.4%, should not be allowed to marry in a Catholic Church.

Father Patrick McCafferty, the Parish Priest of Corpus Christi parish, in Ballymurphy, West Belfast, wrote on his views in the Belfast Telegraph. He said those who voted Yes to change Ireland’s restrictive abortion laws can “get married in City Hall” to avoid being “hypocritical and dishonest by using the Church for a day".

The TSA Is Keeping A Secret Watchlist Of Americans Who Fight Back Against Pointless Groping

"I need a witness!" exclaimed the security screener at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Because I had forgotten to remove my belt before going through a scanner, he explained, I must undergo an "enhanced patdown."

I told him that if he jammed his hand into my groin, I'd file a formal complaint. So he summoned his supervisor to keep an eye on the proceedings.

I thought of this exchange last week when the New York Times revealed that the Transportation Security Administration has created a secret watchlist for troublesome passengers.

The TSA justified the list by saying that its screeners were assaulted 34 times last year, but did not release any details about the alleged assaults.

Local Governments and Occupational Licensing Absurdity

The proliferation of state licensing requirements is already bad enough. There's no need for cities to pile their own mandates on.

Last year, New York City made headlines for cracking down on unlicensed dog sitters. While forcing well-meaning pet sitters to get a kennel license might seem like an only-in-Manhattan problem, the reality is that localities across the country are rife with absurd occupational licensing requirements.

To date, much of the criticism around the issue has focused on state governments' licensing mandates -- such as Louisiana's for florists or Massachusetts' for fortune-tellers -- but municipalities are often just as bad. One of the worst offenders is Detroit.

According to the Mackinac Center's Jarrett Skorup, Detroit requires licenses for at least 60 occupations. While licensing may be appropriate for some professions, such as engineers and doctors, nearly half of the occupations licensed by Detroit are already licensed by the state of Michigan. Detroit's requirements simply layer on more fees and mandates. Further, many of the occupations licensed in Detroit are not licensed in other cities in the Wolverine State, which raises questions about whether those local licenses are really necessary.

An Unsecure Border and the Opioid Crisis: The Urgent Need for Action to Save Lives

Chairman McSally, Ranking Member Vela, and distinguished members:

Thank you for the opportunity to appear before you today to discuss the opioid crisis in the United States, particularly along the border here in Arizona, and the efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to target, investigate, disrupt, and dismantle the criminal networks responsible for the manufacturing, smuggling, and distribution of dangerous opioids.

As the largest investigative agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) enforces more than 400 federal criminal statutes to include the Immigration and Nationality Act under (Title 8), U.S. customs laws under (Title 19), general federal crimes under (Title 18), and the Controlled Substances Act under (Title 21). HSI Special Agents use this authority to investigate all types of cross-border criminal activity and work in close coordination with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) and our state, local, tribal and international partners in a unified effort, to target the Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs) that are supplying illicit substances, to include opioids, to the United States.

Today, I would like to highlight our efforts to reduce the supply of illicit opioids, such as heroin, fentanyl, and fentanyl analogues from coming into the United States along the Southwest border in Arizona and the operational challenges we encounter.

Donald Trump: Mexico Will Pay for the Wall and ‘They’re Going to Enjoy It’

President Donald Trump repeated his promise to make Mexico pay for the wall on the Southern Border, explaining that he would get the funding from renegotiating NAFTA.

“I don’t want to cause a problem, but in the end, Mexico is going to pay for the wall, I’m just telling you … they’re going to pay for the wall and they’re going to enjoy it, okay?” he said.

Trump slammed Mexico for doing nothing to stop the flow of illegal immigrants from South American countries traveling through their country, even though they enjoy a $100 billion annual trade deficit with the United States.

“They make all of this money and they do absolutely nothing to stop people from going through Mexico from Honduras and all these other countries,” Trump said.

Alexander: The Trump Investigation-- Origins and Motives

Among the many resources we use to complement our analysis of news, policy and opinion is National Review, founded by William F. Buckley in 1955. NR has always been the intellectual standard for the conservative movement, though its editors sometimes get it wrong, as in the case of the candidacy of Donald Trump.

As with many “old guard” conservative publications, NR was befuddled both by Trump’s appeal and his ultimate election on November 8, 2016, and its editors still demonstrate some confusion about Trump’s populist support. That perplexity is rooted in the fact that many conservative intellectuals, most of whom reside inside the DC Beltway or in other equally high-brow protectorates like New York City, are disconnected from both the grassroots American Patriots who elected Donald Trump and those who didn’t initially support Trump but have since boarded the Trump Train to Make American Great Again.

Its grassroots disconnect notwithstanding, National Review still has, in my considered opinion, the best stable of political writers on the planet, far superior to those at The Atlantic, The New Republic and the rest of the Leftmedia propaganda machine.

There are a few NR writers whom I follow closely..

Trump to Cowboys’ Jerry Jones on Anthem Protests: ‘You Can’t Win This One’…

The comments come as the first transcripts from Jones’ testimony in the Kaepernick collusion case become public.

Without confirming or denying the quote, a White House official told Beaton, “The majority of the American people agree with the president, love our country, love our flag and believe it should be respected.”

Somali Immigrants Charged with Welfare Fraud in Maine

Two Somali immigrants have been charged with welfare fraud in Maine, reports say.

“The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maine said a federal grand jury indicted Abdirashid Ahmed, 38, of Lewiston and Garat Osman, 32, of Auburn for allegedly getting kickbacks of up to $200 per referral of people to a specific health care provider,” the Portland Press Herald reported this month:

Ahmed solicited kickbacks from a MaineCare provider in exchange for referring beneficiaries to the provider, according to the indictment. Ahmed and Osman also allegedly brought beneficiaries to the provider and served as Somali interpreters during the visits.

The indictment also alleges that the health care provider, identified in documents as “Individual A,” submitted fraudulent bills for interpreting services for patients’ appointments with the provider.

Nolte: NBC News Taps Lying Bigot Joy Reid to Co-Host Town Hall on Bigotry

NBC allowed lying bigot Joy Reid to co-host an MSNBC town hall event on “Everyday Racism in America” Tuesday night, just hours after Roseanne Barr was fired by ABC for a racist tweet.

During the past few months, it has been discovered that on her personal blog, Reid regularly and relentlessly engaged in the worst kind of homophobia imaginable. While some may be willing to forgive bigoted rantings that are now ten years old, just a few weeks ago, Reidrepeatedly lied in an attempt to cover up her bigotry.

Worse still, in a desperate attempt to cover up her anti-gay rantings, Reid sent everyone in the media on a wild goose chase looking for the hacker she invented to blame — the shadowy figure who broke into Reid’s blog and published all this awful stuff. Reportedly, Reid also lied to the FBI with her false hacking claim. By the way, lying to the FBI and filing a false report is a crime — you know, if you are a conservative.

NBC News’s allowing a lying bigot like Joy Reid to host a town hall on bigotry is not only an act of preening arrogance on the part of NBC News; it is an act of trolling.

The arrogance, of course, goes even further than the news outlet’s refusal to even reprimand its lying bigot. Instead, NBC exalts her, lifts her up as an example of tolerance and decency, as though it is NBC that will decide what is right and wrong, what is good and evil.

Elizabeth Warren praises communist China

But Warren insisted the president doesn’t have a clear strategy, and suggested Trump take cues from North Korea’s communist neighbor to the north.

REISTERSTOWN, Md. (May 30, 2018) — MEMA and FEMA will conduct joint preliminary damage assessments with Howard County, Baltimore County, and Baltimore City beginning tomorrow, May 31, 2018, following the heavy rainfall, severe storms, and flooding that occurred this past weekend.

The joint preliminary damage assessments do not guarantee financial assistance, but, they are a key component of the recovery process.

“Our administration is committed to helping those impacted by the recent devastating floods recover as quickly as possible,” said Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. “I have directed the Maryland Emergency Management Agency to work closely with regional representatives from FEMA to seek all available assistance to support our public safety partners and our citizens who were affected as they work to rebuild.”

Federal assistance could potentially be made available through the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.

Yesterday, Maryland announced that state agencies are actively supporting the Howard County Disaster Assistance Center to provide support to affected residents, especially those in and around Ellicott City. Additionally, beginning today, the Maryland Insurance Agency and the Maryland Department of Human Services are supporting an assistance open house being held by the City of Baltimore. Both the Howard County Disaster Assistance Center and Baltimore City’s Open House will help provide a one-stop resource center so affected residents and businesses can access local and state resources as they continue recovering from the floods. The Maryland Emergency Management Agency is coordinating state support.

“Maryland has experienced multiple, recent flood emergencies throughout our state,” said MEMA executive director Russ Strickland. “Earlier in May, Frederick and Washington counties were severely flooded. Ellicott City in Howard County and areas of Baltimore County and the City of Baltimore had devastating flooding this past weekend. We will work with all our stakeholders within the Maryland Emergency Management System and our partners in the Federal Government to identify, coordinate, and provide support to those affected.”

Drudge: ‘New Low’ for Ambien Maker to Mock Roseanne ‘While They Drug a Generation’

Conservative media pioneer Matt Drudge slammed drug maker Sanofi-Aventis on Wednesday for mocking Roseanne Barr’s suggestion that her racially charged remark about Obama White House aide Valerie Jarrett was induced by Ambien.

“The drug company mocking Roseanne for her mental illness while they drug a generation is a new low!” Drudge tweeted at the drug maker’s Twitter handle, @SanofiUS, including three sources detailing the drug’s scary side effects...

The first report — published by Thought Catalog, titled “44 Ambien Stories That Will Creep You The Eff Out” — is a listicle of people recounting their bizarre experiences while on the drug.

This Saturday At OC Billiards @ Trader Lee's: No Cover Charge

To Avoid Raising Wages, Firms Are Now Hiring Felons And Drug Addicts

Last month, we summarized the April Beige Book by saying that a month after the March inflationary panic, the one thing, perhaps the only thing, that was fascinating companies was the threat of trade wars. In fact, we said that the "quick and dirty summary" for the April Beige Book, when economic activity continued to expand "at a modest to moderate pace across the 12 Federal Reserve Districts", would, in a word literally, be "tariffs" and here's why:
March Beige Book instances of word "tariff": 0
April Beige Book instances of word "tariff": 36

Fast forward to today when fears of trade wars appear to have moderated (no pun intended) and there were only 22 instances of the "word" tariff in the just released, May Beige Book.

Meanwhile, as trade war fears receded modestly, the various regional Feds found that, once again, the U.S. economy expanded "moderately" through much of April and May, which was a modest upgrade from previous periods, although with little indication of overheating... as was the case in late 2007 and early 2008; one exception to this mediocrity was the Dallas District, where overall economic activity sped up to a solid pace.

The Fed's Beige Book report, arguably the least market moving of all if sometimes the most interesting as it is based on direct, anecdotal information collected by the 12 regional Fed banks, said manufacturing showed “strong” gains, while employment and prices continued to rise “modestly” or “moderately”

"Manufacturing shifted into higher gear with more than half of the Districts reporting a pickup in industrial activity and a third of the Districts classifying activity as "strong." Fabricated metals, heavy industrial machinery, and electronics equipment were noted as areas of strength" the report, which was released at 2pm on Wednesday, disclosed.

New York Times Admits It Lied About Crowd Size at Nashville Trump Rally

The New York Times has admitted that it lied about the size of the crowd at the Trump rally held in Nashville on Tuesday night, and changed their crowd estimate after the president called them out on Twitter.

In their original story on the Trump rally, the Times claimed the crowd size was only 1,000–- a number that everyone in attendance Tuesday night knew was a misrepresentation of the much larger crowd at the Municipal Auditorium to listen to President Trump speak about his support for Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN-07) and her 2018 campaign for the U.S. Senate seat held by retiring Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN).

Breitbart News was at the rally and estimated the crowd size to be more than 8,000.

Wednesday morning, President Trump called the Times out for their inaccurate crowd size reporting.

GOP Control of House Threatened by Discharge Petition

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and his leadership colleagues are on the verge of losing control of the congressional debate on immigration, as a discharge petition has almost enough signatures to force floor votes on four bills.

President Donald Trump has made immigration one of his top priorities since the campaign. Congress has been left to debate his goals alongside other efforts such as protecting immigrants who were brought into the country illegally when they were children, a group known as Dreamers. But disagreements among Republican lawmakers and sustained opposition from Democrats have slowed the process.

Republican Reps. Will Hurd of Texas and Carlos Curbelo of Florida introduced a discharge petition May 9 hoping to break the stalemate. They are now just a few shy of the 218 signatures needed on their petition to bring the four immigration bills up for a vote. Ryan warns the move would essentially give Democrats control of the floor.

Breaking News: President Trump says a North Korean delegation is expected to deliver a letter from Kim Jong-un as officials try to salvage a June summit meeting

President Trump said that a delegation of officials from North Korea is expected to deliver him a letter from their leader in an extraordinary meeting on Friday in Washington.

McCarthy: New immigration proposal could get to the floor

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Wednesday that lawmakers are working on another immigration bill that he believes could make it to the floor.

“We have been in the room, working together, conservatives, moderates and others to be able to put an immigration plan together that protects our border, secures border, ends catch and release, and deals with the DACA situation,” Mr. McCarthy, California Republican, said on Fox News.

Republicans are ready to work together on the issue that took up much of the national debate in the first few months of the year, he said. He did caution against using a discharge petition, which some House Republicans have pushed, because he said it turns the control over to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

“I never believe in what is called a discharge petition,” Mr. McCarthy said.

The petition forces the bill out of the committee without a report from the committee. It would allow a vote on four bills, but Republican leaders have already suggested that any bill passed under this tactic would not be signed by President Trump.

While some may be willing to forgive bigoted rantings that are now ten years old, just a few weeks ago, Reid repeatedly lied in an attempt to cover up her bigotry.

Barack Obama fake news video highlights dangers of AI

Fake news, meet artificial intelligence.

A video created by Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele and released by BuzzFeed appears to show Barack Obama referencing the movie “Black Panther,” remarking on HUD Secretary Ben Carson and calling President Donald Trump a “total and complete dips—.” But it was all fake.

It was all a fraud.

A fabrication. A figment of technological imaginations.

Obama wasn’t actually speaking. His face may have been on screen, his mouth may have been moving, his lips may have been shaping syllables in sync with the words that were heard. But he was all a product of Peele’s production company and of the skillful employment of Adobe After Effects and the AI face-swapping FakeApp tool.

Welcome to the wonderful world of artificial intelligence.

In the video, Obama warns — or does he? — of the need to be savvy about the future of online news, by saying: “We’re entering an era which our enemies can make it look like anyone is saying anything at any point in time, even if they would never say those things.”

Army Ranger Who Survived Benghazi Shreds David Hogg Over Gun Control Tweet

Army Ranger and Benghazi survivor Kris Paronto shredded David Hogg’s attempt to blame school shootings on gun ownership.

Hogg tweeted:

Remeber a time when there wasn't a school shooting every week? I don't because I wasn't alive.

— David Hogg (@davidhogg111) May 27, 2018

Paronto responded with a tweet that showed Hogg in a vagina hat and allowed the former Army Ranger to correct the record:

I remember, it was before your generation started shooting up the schools David, even though we still had guns. Thank you for confirming..again…that it’s not the gun, it’s person, and in particular you & your peers millennial culture. @davidhogg111 #whenhoggsaysstupidsh!t #2A pic.twitter.com/NPf8Qsoqtt

Grassley: Fusion GPS Founder Testimony Likely an ‘Outright Lie’

Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley released a letter on Tuesday accusing Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson of making “extremely misleading” statements” to Senate investigators.

Simpson told the Senate Judiciary Committee in August of 2017 that he stopped compiling opposition research on Donald Trump subsequent to 2016 presidential election. According to the Iowa lawmaker, the operative’s testimony appears to contradict statements that Daniel Jones, a Senate Intelligence Committee staffer and aide to Sen. Diana Feinstein (D-CA), gave to the FBI in March of 2017.

During the hearing, Simpson was asked, “So you didn’t do any work on the Trump matter after the election date; that was the end of your work?”

“I had no client after the election,” Simpson replied.

Grassley writes that Simpson’s statement was not only “extremely misleading” but possibly an “outright lie.”
