Don’t Be Surprised To See More Bank Failures


Closures have been relatively slow, but FDIC is accelerating shutdowns

By most measures, the past year has been the worst financial crisis in a lifetime. But not by one significant measure: Bank failures.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has closed 92 banks so far in 2009, after seizing 25 ailing banks last year. By contrast, during the last banking crisis, 381 banks were seized in 1990, 268 in 1991, and 179 in 1992. Still, the pace of bank failures is accelerating. In recent days, three banks failed, including Illinois-based Corus Bank, doomed by $3.2 billion in construction loans, mostly to condominium developers.

The relatively slow pace of bank failures during the crisis is partly the result of government decisions to keep ailing banks open for as long as possible, says Louisiana State University banking professor Joseph Mason.

Maryland Republicans Check Whig For Chairman

BETHESDA, MARYLAND ­ Historically, Maryland has had three governors and seven senators who were members of the Whig Party, with the last serving in 1858. Following the surprise resignation of Maryland Republican Chairman James Pelura, the Whigs should return to Maryland, though with a 2009 twist.

On Tuesday, Daniel "The Whig Man" Vovak, of Bethesda, announced that he is seeking to become the next chairman of the Maryland Republican Party. A movie producer and ghostwriter, Vovak is known for occasionally wearing a distinguished powdered wig when he speaks at formal events. In August, Vovak announced that the Young Republicans of Montgomery County were co-hosting an upcoming fundraiser with the famous Paula Jones, of Arkansas. Proceeds of the event will also benefit the Maryland Republican Party. Vovak is the producer of The Blue Dress, a comedy movie about Bill Clinton and Monica.

"I'm not in the camp that believes that Dr. Pelura was a bad chairman, because he was better at securing issue-driven headlines than Susan Turnbull, Chairwoman of the Maryland Democratic Party. In fact, Pelura's Contract for Maryland was a good idea, though it would have been better if the contract was written by Senator Allan Kittleman and Delegate Anthony O'Donnell."

Vovak says he has developed his political ideology based on the beliefs of the Whig Party, which essentially followed two principals: 1) Neutrality on cultural issues, and 2) Fiscal responsibility in government.

"I'm going to focus on candidate recruitment and fundraising," he says. "In the past forty years, Hawaii and Maryland are the weakest States in the country for Republican candidates trying to win state-wide office. Unfortunately, that severely affects candidates in local races, which has moved our State to adopt reckless financial positions. Maryland is currently a haven for Democrats, but it wants to be Republican. It wants to be more successful, which is something the Republican brand offers."

Before declaring his candidacy on Tuesday, Vovak spoke openly with Ellen Sauerbrey and Montgomery County Chairman Mark Uncapher, plus a number of central committeemen. Vovak believes he can raise $75,000 to $125,000 within six months of being elected. The Party will elect its next leader at the Maryland Republican Convention in mid-November.

INCIDENT: Assault Second Degree

NARRATIVE:
In February the Wicomico Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct an investigation into an assault that had allegedly occurred between an employee and inmate at the Wicomico County Detention Center.

The employee was identified as Thomas Kimball, Chief of Security at the institution, and the victim a 22 yoa w/f.

he findings of the WBI were presented to the Wicomico State’s Attorney for review. The findings were then presented to a Grand Jury in Wicomico County and that jury handed down a criminal indictment for the defendant, Kimball, charging him with second degree assault.

On September 15, 2009 at 0545 hours Kimball was arrested on this indictment without incident.

National Farmers Union Honors Rep. Frank Kratovil With Golden Triangle Award

Washington, DC – Today, the National Farmers Union presented Rep. Frank Kratovil with the organization’s highest legislative honor, the 2009 Golden Triangle Award. The annual award is presented to members of Congress who have demonstrated leadership on issues relevant to America’s family farmers, ranchers and rural communities.

“Frank Kratovil has demonstrated a commitment to developing constructive solutions to address the challenges facing those in rural America while also looking for creative opportunities for the future,” NFU President Roger Johnson said.

The awards will be presented during NFU’s annual fall fly-in this week.

The Golden Triangle Award is based on NFU’s symbol – a triangle with “legislation” and “cooperation” forming the sides and “education” the base. The Golden Triangle Awards have been presented annually since 1988.

Thank you Wicomico County Council!!! Special Thanks to Stevie Prettyman for making a motion at today's council meeting for a vote to hold night meetings. This vote will take place on Tuesday October 6th! Maybe, finially the council will allow for the transparency we all want in our government. So many people have expressed a desire for the county council to hold their meetings after work hours, so that folks can participate in what is proving to be very challenging economic time, in this county. We have a crisis with a huge budget shortfall and tax payers are concerned. They want to be a part of the discussion and maybe just maybe together we can work together on a solution.

This fall 2009, thousands of teams from around the country will be participating in the Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally. High School and College teams will be promoting Breast health education in the community as well as raising funds to help eradicate Breast Cancer.

Dig Pink attendees will watch the girls compete on the court while contributing to breast health awareness by making a statement and wearing something PINK in the stands. Admission to the event will be $4.00 and all in attendance are encouraged to wear pink.

Before, during and after the volleyball match there will be many special events such as a bake sale, pink lemonade, a live DJ, cheerleaders and a post match serving contest where you can win a variety of prizes including $50 in cash.

James M. Bennett High School The JMB Clippers Volleyball program finished the 2008 regular season with a 9-5 record. They lost in the second round of the State 2A Playoffs to Rising Sun High School. Two of their players were named to the All-Bayside Team. This season they have continued with similar success. The Lady Clippers currently have a 3-1 record. Coach Emge hopes that by supporting a cause such as the “The Side-Out Foundation” will help bring his team together and solidify them into a championship caliber squad. “It’s not every day that you feel like you’re making a difference? From our efforts so far, I can say that it feels good. I can’t wait to see the final outcome of our efforts on October 7th.” Side-Out Foundation

The Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) located in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. They have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Breast Cancer research nationally through volleyball tournaments, clinics, and rallies. Funds are currently devoted to targeted therapies and molecular profiling which is where there is a hot bed of research activity. Side-Out also devotes a portion of the funds to local and national “Life with Cancer” support organizations.

Their name underscores the purpose of the organization – “Side-Out” in volleyball occurs when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. Likewise in the war against breast cancer, the Side-Out Foundation will support health care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men with this dreaded disease thus enabling those affected to regain control of their lives and living them to the fullest.

Narrative: On 14 September 2009
at 5:25 PM, a deputy responded to a residential youth facility located in the 23000 block of Mardela Springs for a reported assault. Upon arrival, the deputy met with a counselor at the facility who advised that he had been assaulted by a 16 YOA resident. The counselor advised that the juvenile began acting defiantly, called the counselor names and then charged at the counselor, striking him in the chest. The deputy located the juvenile, still at the facility and prepared a juvenile referral charging document.

The juvenile referral will be sent to the Department of Juvenile Services. The juvenile was released to the facility staff pending formal court action by the Department of Juvenile Services.

Suspect: Reginald Lamont Collins, 42, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 14 September 2009
at 7:52 PM, deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office went to a residence in the 400 block of Oriole Place in search of a wanted subject, Reginald Collins, known to live there. Upon knocking on the rear door, Collins answered and stepped outside to speak with the deputy. Upon being notified of the active arrest warrant, Collins became enraged and went back inside his residence. The deputies followed with the intention of taking Collins into custody. Instead Collins argued with the deputies, declaring that they had the wrong person and that he was not going to go with them. When the deputies attempted to take Collins into custody, he began struggling with the deputies and attempted to pull away. While attempting to get away from the deputies, Collins assaulted one of them by striking the deputy in the arm several times with his elbow.

The deputies managed to get physical control of Collins and placed into handcuffs. Collins was transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed on both the warrant and the charges stemming from this incident. After an initial appearance, Collins was detained on $10,000.00 bond in the Detention Center,
Collins was also held on $500.00 bond for the warrant, a Circuit Court Child Support Non Compliance Bench Warrant.

Suspect: Nicholas R. Thomas, 19, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 14 September 2009
at 11:02 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle operated by Nicholas Thomas for speeding on Johnson Road in Salisbury. Upon making contact with Thomas, the deputy clearly detected the odor of marijuana emanating from within the passenger compartment of Thomas’ vehicle. The deputy had Thomas exit the vehicle and upon questioning, Thomas admitted to having a bag of marijuana in his pocket.
The deputy placed Thomas under arrest and transported Thomas to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Thomas was released by the Commissioner on Personal Recognizance.

They say that the competitions of companies in the United States is such, that many new inventions in medicine and drugs come from us, more than any other nation. They say if we do this health care bill, it will kill the gift to develop the new things and denies the rest of the world of new medicines. Is this a scare tactic? No, it is the truth and I am scared out of my mind that this nation is committing suicide. To my liberal friends, if you do nothing else, please read the entire letter before deleting it, as I know you will do, if you haven't already done so. Most of you are so in love with the message, that the President is saying to you, that you refuse to see just what is happening. I just hope it's not to late. God help us.

Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected.

To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion
services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of
necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled.

However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been
contemplated. If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed.

The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people and the businesses they own. The irony is
that the Congress doesn't have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with. I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.

This legislation also provides for access by the appointees of the Obama administration of all of your personal healthcare information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is a direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures.
You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide.

If you decide not to have healthcare insurance or if you have private insurance that is not deemed "acceptable" to the "Health Choices Administrator" appointed by Obama there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a "tax" instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment.
However, that doesn't work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the "due process of law.

So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much out the original ten in the Bill of Rights that are effectively nullified by this law. It doesn't stop there though. The 9th Amendment that provides: "The enumeration in the
Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people;" The 10th Amendment states: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved
to the States respectively, or to the people." Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control.

I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights. Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to "be bound by oath or affirmation" to support the Constitution. If I was a member of
Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.

Salisbury Police Department Press Releases


On September 11, 2009 at approximately 11:46 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the seven hundred block of Roger Street for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival the officers met with an adult male victim who advised that he had been stabbed in the back by an unknown suspect as he walked on E. Lincoln Avenue approaching Roger St. The victim, identified as 18 year old Diamond Cleon Chaney of Salisbury, was transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a minor stab wound to the upper right shoulder. The injury was not life threatening. This investigation is continuing.

Upon arrival the officers met with store security who advised that the below listed suspect, an employee of the store, had been observed taking U.S. currency from a cash register of the store while he worked.

On September 11, 2009 at approximately 6:33 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to a residence on Claiborne Street for the report of a domestic altercation. Upon arrival the officers met with a victim who advised that the below listed suspect had threatened her with a firearm during a domestic type argument. The officers conducted a record check of the suspect and found that the suspect had a previous felony conviction in 2002 which prohibited him from possessing firearms. The officers took custody of three (3) firearms that were located at the residence and secured the weapons. It was also found that the suspect was a fugitive from Delaware for failing to appear for firearms charges.

On September 11, 2009 at approximately 8:45 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Walmart Department Store for the report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival the officers met with store security who advised the officers that store employees had observed the below listed suspect take property from the store without making payment. A search of the suspect incident to arrest revealed a smoking device containing suspected crack/cocaine. The property was recovered and returned to the store.

On September 12, 2009 at approximately 9:00 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to a residence on Pryor Avenue for the report of a domestic type assault. Upon arrival the officers met with the two below listed suspects and a witness. The investigation revealed that during a domestic type argument, the suspects threatened each other with weapons. The first suspect threatened the second suspect with two (2) kitchen knives and the second suspect threatened the first with a handgun. The handgun was recovered by the officers.

Obama’s Address To Congress Didn’t Quite Do It

Obama’s problem with warning Americans about bickering, partisan politics, lying, and misrepresentation Wednesday night is that his green advisor Van Jones just left after it was disclosed that he called Republicans “a–holes”, whites polluters/more prone to mass murder in schools, and charged the former President with involvement in 9/11. Obama said nothing about such “lying” and “misrepresentation” in his administration — other than to warn school kids to be careful what they put on facebook, twitter and the internet since it can be brought back up for the rest of their lives (i.e., poor Van Jones).

Like ‘hope and change’, ‘this is our moment’, and the now old ‘greatest time in history’ tropes, so too we are getting used to a highly partisan president complaining about partisanship.

Yet, all the American people wanted to hear Wednesday night was 1) the rough cost and where the money comes from (not more gimmicks that bad people will have to cut their profits or magic savings will come from waste and fraud [if the latter is really true, why not bank the savings right now?]); 2) how those who fall through the cracks will be covered (is it 30, 46, or how many million in Obama’s latest version?); and some appreciation that a great system can be improved, rather than the old anecdotes about victims of bad people that we’ve become used to on the campaign trail. (Trying to attach his agenda to the condolences of Ted Kennedy or raising the bloody shirt that more will “die” will not scare or charm a reluctant public that likes its present health and is uneasy about a state-run plan with caretakers of the likes of a Geithner or Jones. Most believe that more will in fact die if we have a Canadian or British style system that devolves into rationing care.)

The President really has to watch this constant return to these soaring cadences that deliver banalities. One cannot sound like Lincoln if there really is no message. It is time to move on, ignore criticism, and offer something that most can work with; instead, after 9 months we are getting a ‘they are mean to me’ whine at about every speech and photo-op, in the manner of biblical prophets who lash out at doubters.

Obama never gives many concrete details, nor gets precise and concise, and now one wonders whether it is because he simply thinks he can go to the hope-and-change/soar-like-an-eagle mode, and we will once more get mesmerized, or he has nothing to say at all, or both. But most caught on to all that, and now want a plan, not a prophet.

Bottom line? Obama should just borrow from the Republican plan, assure the Democrats he’s extending coverage to those uncovered, and then, and only then, go back to his eagle routine and soar with it in the stratosphere with “I alone hoped and changed healthcare.”

Salisbury Mayor James Ireton, Jr., invites the public to downtown Salisbury this Friday, September 18th, to join in and support Salisbury’s Third Friday Celebration. A number of businesses located within the Arts & Entertainment District in downtown Salisbury will open their doors at 5:00 pm for this event.

Participating venues will have balloons at their entrances to denote their involvement in Third Friday. To date, participants for the September event include Uptown Chef, Chesapeake East & Yum Café, Parker Place, Pottery Guild, Body Pro 1, Anthony’s Deli, Perfect Dress, Velvet Pearl, Season’s Best Antiques, Market Street Inn, Market Street Books, Kuhn’s Jewelers, Art Institute and Gallery, Sushi De Kanpai, Flavor’s Italian Grille, Enza’s and PNC Bank.

There will also be refreshments and live entertainment at the Salisbury Marina. Refreshments are courtesy of Coca Cola of Salisbury, Sobo’s Wine Bistro, Market Street Inn, and Vinny’s LaRoma. The live entertainment will be provided by the band Riot Act – Act II.

Bands scheduled to perform at this Friday’s celebration will be the Near East Family, performing in front of the Government Office Building (125 N. Division Street); Alex Wersen & Friends, performing in the parking lot of Amber Nicole’s Bridal (corner of Main and Baptist Streets); and Lime Green performing in Parking Lot 10 in front of Season’s Best Antiques (104 Poplar Hill Avenue). In addition, there will be several performing and visual artists along the street. There will also be lots of fun kid’s activities along the street. A great evening for all ages!
Urban Salisbury’s Arts & Entertainment Steering Committee is assisting in this effort as part of the revitalization of Downtown Salisbury. Similar celebrations are held monthly in Arts & Entertainment Districts in Berlin, Cambridge and Snow Hill.

Update On Both WCDC Cases

It has been reported that Colonel Kimball was arrested for assaulting, (choking) a female inmate at least 1/2 his size. We all remember the Post we did a while back about their having a video proving this happened. Well, an arrest warrant was issued after a Grand Jury viewed the evidence and Kimball was arrested.

As for the WCDC Correctional Officer Tamara James, it too has been reported that she was right back to work 2 days after her arrest.

Now, to ALL of the employees at WCDC. I have been informed that some of you are scared to make a comment here because of DDD Lawsuit against me. I want to make myself VERY CLEAR to each and every one of you. Chief Webster has tried, Barrie Tilghman has tried and now DDD is attempting to do the exact same thing, THEY WANT MY SOURCES. You have my word, right here and now, I will NEVER give up a source and I have a reputation for keeping ANY of my sources away from the authorities. Just ask Sheriff Lewis or Davis Ruark. While I respect their position, unless I feel someones life is in danger, I give up NOTHING! I have spent more than $40,000.00 in legal fees defending YOUR right to YOUR freedom of speech.

Mayor Ireton Doesn't Care About The Environment


If he did, he wouldn't be spending money in magazines that waste a valuable resource.

Oh, I know not everyone has Internet Access but let me assure you, the Metropolitan claims they PRINT 36,000 magazines each month with a verified circulation, PLLLLLEEEEASE! Yeah, 200 to the GOB, 1,000 to Giant, you know where I'm going. Mind you, it's a very well done magazine and it has its place marketing wise. However, what the heck does "verified circulation" mean anyway.

Then there's the 36,000 PRINTED each month. OK, I can believe that. I can also believe that thousands upon thousands go to specific locations. However, reaching 36,000 people each month is a joke.

Back when I was in the manufacturing business we used to advertise in Trade Magazines for our product. They offered what they called Post Card Ads where you'd get 50 or so companies that would have a bundle of post cards sent out to their subscribers. These companies would then go through the cards and mail them back to you asking for more information/brochures. The majority of the companies were foolish enough to pre pay the postage for these cards, not me. The way I saw it, (and it worked) was, IF someone was truly interested in your product, they'd pay, (back then) the 12 cents to put a stamp on it and mail it back to you. When I sent a lead to one of my Distributors or Dealers, they were GOOD LEADS.

The Metropolitan is nothing but a Feel Good Magazine for local businesses to see their business in print. Nice articles about nice stuff, a kind of "click" so to speak. However, no one is paying, (or putting their own postage on it) to BUY the magazine, yet so many people fall for the expensive advertising. Again, it's a nice magazine but it packs no real punch. Unless you like seeing yourself in print with all great things about your company and how great these people are at Fundraisers and so forth. Like I said though, they have proven there's a place for this kind of thing and they do it better than anyone else I've ever seen.

However, on line marketing is the future and in January you'll see the first of its kind locally, (and successfully) right here on Salisbury News. Heck, our circulation blows theirs away anyway. Again, to the nay sayers, go to Alexa and see what I'm talking about. Those are REAL numbers that are verified. The competition will be stepping it up a notch in January and going up against TV, Radio, Newspaper and Magazines.

If Ireton claims he wants to GO GREEN, well, we'll be happy to serve the City of Salisbury by offering a 100% GREEN marketing environment. Remember, people come to Salisbury News because they WANT TO. There is none, nor will there be a charge for a subscription. This should get interesting.

Vehicle Pursuit Ends With The Suspect Crashing Into An Abandoned House


Location: Church and North Streets in Bridgeville

Date of Occurrence: September 14, 2009

Suspect(s): Sean Mapp

Resume: On September 14, 2009 at 2:49 PM, suspect Sean Mapp, age 27 of Goldsboro, Maryland, attempted to elude State Police in a vehicle pursuit followed by a foot pursuit, after the Trooper clocked the suspect for speeding.

The trooper was traveling westbound on Federalsburg Road, when the trooper observed a tan jeep Cherokee speeding eastbound on Federalsburg at a high rate of speed. When the trooper turned around on the vehicle and activated the emergency lights and sirens, the suspect increased his speed and attempted to avoid capture.

Mapp continued to drive aggressively, until he crashed into an abandoned house at the corner of Church and North Streets. The suspect was able to avoid striking any other vehicles during the short pursuit. After crashing the vehicle, the suspect fled on foot a short distance until he was apprehended by State Police and Bridgeville Police without incident.

Mapp was transported to Nanticoke Hospital to receive medical treatment for minor injuries he sustained when he fled from the vehicle. Mapp was released from the hospital and arrested on charges of disregarding a police officer’s signal, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, consumption of a non-narcotic, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, aggressive driving, and numerous other traffic charges.

Mapp was committed to Sussex Correctional Institute, after failing to post $2,890 secured bond.

LYNN CATHCART CAN’T EVER LET IT GO

Anyone who knows Salisbury history will not be surprised by Cathcart’s outrageous attempt to smear Councilwoman Campbell at the City Council meeting last night. Even before Ms. Campbell was elected to the Council, Cathcart has tried to villify her in public. During the City election in 2005, when she ran against, and defeated, Cathcart’s cohort on the Council (Michael Day), Cathcart, who was then part of the “Dream Team” majority on the Council, made cutting remarks about Ms. Campbell that the Daily Times was eager to publish.

Cathcart was well aware that Ms. Campbell would provide a voice for those who opposed the policies and shenanigans of the Dream Team-Barrie Tilghman coalition that is a primary cause of the “structural deficit” and fiscal dilemma that the City now faces. And Cathcart was correct, because from the get-go Ms. Campbell tried to right the wrongs of that alliance of City officials who marched to the drumbeat of landlords/SAPOA and certain developers and land speculators.

By 2007, Cathcart’s public support had diminished – actually, it was never that great; the 2003 election was very unusual – and she decided not to seek reelection. This year, Ms. Campbell was reelected by a humongous majority, beating yet another candidate backed by Cathcart.

Now, Cathcart has seized upon the slime being spread by certain members of the police department to once again throw mud at Debbie Campbell. But that muck has already been hung out to dry, and it won’t stick any better than when it was wet and runny.

At this rate, WCDC will be in the same boat as SPD with employee losses. SPD is down 8 officers, AGAIN. How many correctional officers is WCDC down?

3. PERSON DRIVING MOTOR VEH. ON HWY. ON SUSPENDED LIC. & PRIVILEGE
4. DRIVING MOTOR VEH. ON HWY W/O REQ . LICENSE AND AUTHORIZATION

Allegedly, she gave the police her mothers name to avoid being ticketed because her license is suspended.

At 5:00 am this morning Colonel Kimball of WCDC was arrested for assault charges filed by WBI, under sealed indictment. He was processed in booking. He is at work today.

UPDATE: It turns out a woman overdosed and died two nights ago in this home. SSSSSHHHHHHHH, they don't want you to know this kind of stuff happens in Salisbury, especially this location. I also came to learn the following. While the Mayor was at Poplar Hill Mansion some of the residents expressed their concerns over this property. Mayor Ireton took a walk over there and just as he walked up, a pimp and a prostitute walked out of the home and started heading towards Rt. 13. Mayor Ireton chased them off by following them almost all the way to Rt. 13 and telling them they were not welcome here in Salisbury.

Well, here's where it gets even more interesting. Mayor Ireton then came back and told these concerned citizens, "Your vigilance is turning into vigilantism." One neighbor replied, WE aren't the ones chasing these people down to Rt. 13 Mayor.

Let's get real Folks. Jim Ireton ran a campaign based around CRIME. Yeah, I know he mentioned the River too but CRIME was his big issue. That being said, look at it this way, if you will.

IF Mayor Ireton were to in fact get old Chiefy to actually report CRIME like it really is, we wouldn't be the 9th Most Dangerous City in America, (per capita) we'd be first or second. Jim knows that if things were to GET REAL with the numbers, crime would go through the roof, (on the books) and it would all be under his watch. Citizens would have to know this in advance but again, come election time Comegys, Cathcart, Dunn, Tilghman and others would use this against Ireton. Therefore, it's my opinion that Jim became wise to reality and would rather keep things just the way they are with Webster so the statistics wouldn't harm him in the Press.

Well Jim, you're either the Mayor because you want to make life BETTER in Salisbury or you're simply a typical democrat who is more concerned about his numbers than you are the citizens.

Telling citizens, neighbors and or residents in Poplar Hill they're vigilante's, yet6 no arrests and people are in fear for their children's lives, just who in the hell do you think you are! People have invested their life savings into these homes. Are you telling me that the SPD isn't professionally trained enough to KNOW where the prostitutes went after they left the Thrift Inn? Are you telling me they didn't place enough pressure on these prostitutes and drug dealers to push them out of town and instead arrested the Motel Owner because the charges would stick better on them, rather than the criminals?

It's important to note here, the Mayor didn't come to this neighborhood to discuss crime. He came there to speak about the mansion and residents confronted him, since it's only two doors down. Yes Folks, it's been reported there are drugs and prostitutes available at this property and most of the traffic is at night. They didn't go anywhere. Well, 100 yards away from where they used to be anyway.

Police, Prosecutors Line Up For Gang Hearing


A lengthy list of some of Maryland's most powerful state's attorneys and police chiefs plan to travel to Annapolis this morning to ask lawmakers for better rules to aid them in putting gang members behind bars for longer sentences. The House Judiciary Committee is considering changes to the Maryland Gang Prosecution Act - a law many law enforcement officials say they avoid because the burden on police to prove gang membership is too high.

Among those expected to attend: Baltimore City State's Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy, Montgomery County State's Attorney John McCarthy, Donald DeVore, the state's Secretary for the Department of Juvenile Services and Prince George's Sheriff Michael Jackson.

Some people are media whores who will do anything to get attention and the Daily Times knows this. They use people like this to get what they want out there and MANUFACTURE news.

Funny, this little group the Daily Times mentions in their article, they don't mention Liz Holland's part in that group, do they! This Nicholson sounds like a real tool! I know guys, try this out for size. Rather than attempting to smear so many names in the press. Why don't you look at the numbers, (which just came out yesterday) and see for yourself. All this time you've been running a campaign to oust Frank White, without any concrete numbers. The numbers are in, you haven't had time to review them, then you come to a meeting full of piss and vinegar waving your hands, LOOK AT MEEEEE, LOOK AT MEEEEE. Was Billy Burke there too?

After Unmasking, Judge Throws Out Libel Case Against Anonymous Blogger

An ex-Congressman in New York successfully unmasked an online commenter at a site run by The Journal News by alleging that the commenter made defamatory posts. But when former Rep. Richard Ottinger and his wife, June, subsequently filed a $1.5 million libel lawsuit, the court threw out the case as barred by a New York law that limits defamation suits when people comment on matters of public interest.

The Ottingers "failed to demonstrate that their action has a substantial basis in fact and law," Westchester judge Richard Liebowitz wrote in a recent ruling.

The case grew out of a zoning matter in Mamaroneck, where the Ottingers had sought building permits to renovate their house. Some neighborhood activists alleged that the village was treating the Ottingers' application differently than other applications, Liebowitz wrote in his opinion.

One opponent said at a televised meeting that a deed regarding the Ottingers' property was "fraudulent" and "invalid," according to the legal documents. The next day, similar comments appeared on The Journal News site LoHud.com, according to Liebowitz.

The posts prompted the Ottingers to seek a court order requiring the Journal News to identify the source of the comments. In June of 2008, Judge Rory Bellantoni in White Plains ruled that the Ottingers had sufficiently shown they could bring a viable defamation lawsuit and ordered the newspaper to reveal any registration information, email addresses and IP addresses associated with the comments.

The commenter turned out to be Stuart Tiekert, a neighbor of the Ottingers, who posted remarks under three different screen names.

The Ottingers followed through by suing Tiekert. But late last month, Liebowitz dismissed the case under New York's anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation). That law says that people can't recover for damages libel when the allegedly defamatory statements involve matters of public interest unless the speakers have "actual malice" -- defined as knowing the statements are false or recklessly disregarding the statements' falsity.

First Amendment lawyer Sam Bayard, assistant director of the Citizen Media Law Project, says that the dismissal isn't necessarily inconsistent with the earlier finding that the Ottingers had presented sufficient facts to prove libel. That's because, in some circumstances, litigants are not in a position to prove that a speaker acted with actual malice without knowing the person's identity.

Flu shots are never an easy sell to the pregnant women Dr. Katharine Taber sees at her Towson obstetrics practice.


These are women who worry about everything they put into their bodies, from tuna fish to coffee to pain relievers. So Taber has to explain how important it is that they get the tried-and-true seasonal flu vaccine, because a serious case of flu could be dangerous to their developing babies.


This year, Taber is working double-time on her salesmanship. Health officials have made pregnant women among the highest-priority groups to get the swine flu vaccine, which is still being tested, when it becomes available next month."


It's tough," she said. "They're worried about the safety of the vaccine because it hasn't had a ton of testing. ... They're asking if Tylenol is OK and I'm telling them they have to get this new shot. The risk-benefit says the vaccine is safer [than getting the H1N1 virus] - take the vaccine. But they're skeptical."

FINALLY, Some News I Want To Share!


If you were wondering what's going on construction wise at The Fountain's on Rt. 50, Salisbury News is about to deliver you the news.

Some time ago I mentioned my conversation with Chris Davis and a suggestion I had thrown his way referencing utilizing that HUGE deck on the outside of their facility and perhaps considering a Cigar Club Setting. I said, all you have to do is create a roof and put out those gas space heaters and it's a year round deal.

Well, Chris is one smart cookie and has come through with the design for outdoor entertainment for those of us who enjoy a good Cigar. Some time in the next two weeks they'll have this new area completed and I just can't tell you just how many people are excited to know there will finally be a place on the Eastern Shore to enjoy a good Cigar.

So my hat is tipped to the Fountain's and the word is spreading like wild fire. Look out Salisbury. Between the good food and now outdoor entertainment, The Lagoon Bar & Grill is going to put a serious hurting on everyone else.

"Working Together For Children"

September Edition of "Working Together for Children" Now Airing on PAC 14

The September edition of "Working Together for Children" is now airing on PAC 14 (Comcast Channel 14). The show is currently scheduled to air at 7:59 p.m. Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. Thursday and noon Saturday; visit pac14.org for additional times.

This month's show features highlights from Staff Kickoff Day '09, including a rousing performance by The Edgeucators. The program also visits Wicomico High School to hear what students and their teacher thought of President Obama's speech to the nation's students.

TRAFFIC ALERT


Section of Choptank Road to Close Wednesday

Road will be closed between Bethel Church Road and Churchtown Road

Middletown -- The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that a portion of Choptank Road will be closed starting Wednesday, Sept. 16. The closed portion, between Churchtown Road and Bethel Church Road, is expected to open in late November, weather permitting.

The closure will make it possible for crews to rebuild the northern-most section of Choptank Road and build a roundabout at the intersection. By closing the road completely, work can be finished safer and a road that is closed entirely is safer for both the construction crews and motorists.

A temporary road will provide a route for through traffic using Bethel Church Road.

There will be no access to Choptank Road from Bethel Church Road during the closure.

While closed to through traffic, local residents will have access by using Churchtown Road to Choptank Road. DelDOT will also provide access for customers and employees of the produce business that is near the intersection of Bethel Church Road and Choptank Road.

This closure is part of a multi-year project to rebuild Choptank Road, that started in the summer of 2007 with the roundabout at Bunker Hill Road and Choptank Road. The project is scheduled to end spring of 2010.

An untold number of lawyers practice Constitutional law. It is likely that the vast majority of citizens in this country have never read it, much less understand its meaning. The nine (9) members of the Supreme Court are the final authority of what the Constitution means. The Supremes oversee a host of lower court judges that render their opinions on what the founding fathers and subsequent amendments mean.

There are many people that believe the Constitution should be interpreted literally and just as many that believe it is an ever changing, living and breathing document. It gets both funny and sad, when one side or the other reads a clause and chooses to interpret it in their favor. Bill Clinton summed it up in his now famous, "What is the meaning of is."? When the President appoints and the Senate confirms a new member of the court each side tries to get someone that shares their views on the Constitutions meaning.

We know from the writings of the founding fathers, it was their intent that the Constitution granted certain powers to the Federal Government, reserving all else to the states and the people. That is just not the way it has been working out. One sentence, in any one clause has been interpreted to give power to the Federal Government over almost anything it chooses to regulate, stimulate or obfuscate. Remember the Civil war? It was supposedly fought over the primary issue of states rights. The first ten (10) amendments are commonly referred to as the bill of rights. Yet, we still argue about what rights they project.

Does anyone know where we can find fifty (50) impartial people to once and for all define what words mean?

David Horowitz: Obama ‘Manchurian Candidate’

In a lead story published this past weekend on Frontpagemag.com, conservative thinker and best-selling author David Horowitz likens President Barack Obama to the "Manchurian Candidate" — a tool of the far left fostering the implementation of its radical agenda.

In the 1959 book "The Manchurian Candidate" by Richard Condon — which has been made into two movies — an American soldier is captured during the Korean War, taken to Manchuria in China, and brainwashed into being an unwitting assassin for the communists.

He becomes part of a plot to kill a U.S. presidential nominee to aid the ascension of the "Manchurian Candidate" — a candidate secretly backed by communists.

Horowitz is a former leftwing radical who turned conservative. He sees Obama’s manipulators as a coalition of left-wing groups who have helped pave Obama's road to the White House.

One is the Center for American Progress, which is funded by billionaire George Soros and headed by John Podesta, co-chair of the Obama transition team.

Another is the Apollo Alliance, a "coalition of radicals, left-wing union leaders and corporate recruits, which had a major role in designing Obama's green economy plans, including the 'cash for clunkers' program," Horowitz writes on the FrontPageMag.com Web site.

Apollo Alliance's board includes Van Jones, who recently resigned as Obama's "green jobs czar" after his past inflammatory statements came to light. Horowitz notes that Jones is a "self-styled 'communist' and a proponent of the idea that the Katrina catastrophe was caused by 'white supremacy.'"

A key moment in the progress of the left-wing coalition came in 2004 when Soros decided to integrate "anti-American radicals" — including left-wing unions, environmental radicals, and the political organization ACORN — "into the structure of Democratic Party politics," writes Horowitz, founder of The David Horowitz Freedom Center and author of the new book "One Party Classroom."

Soros created what Horowitz called a "Shadow Party" to torpedo President George W. Bush's re-election effort in 2004.

"Soros failed to achieve his goal in 2004 but he went on working to create new elements of the network, such as the Apollo Alliance," Horowitz wrote.

Horowitz argues that Obama’s true colors are beginning to show to the American people.

‘Remembering Our Boys’ Poker Run Benefits Wicomico War Memorial

(Salisbury, MD) The Knights of St. Florian Motorcycle Club will host the 1st Annual Memorial Poker Run ‘Remembering Our Boys’ on Saturday, September 19. Registration for the Poker Run will begin at 10:00am at the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Company (101 Station St. Mardela Springs, MD). The last bike will be out by 12:30pm and the ride is expected to end by 3:00pm.

Riders can play one hand for $10 or three hands for $25. The day will also consist of live music, a 50/50 Raffle and door prizes. The Mardela Fire Department will have barbeque chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers and sodas for sale.

The Knights of St. Florian Motorcycle Club is donating all proceeds from the run to benefit the Wicomico War Memorial in the name of Walter F ‘Trae’ Cohee III and the Michael J. McMullen Emergency Medical Services Memorial Scholarship Fund at Wor-Wic Community College. Both men gave their lives while serving for the military and served as firefighters on the home front.

The Knights of St. Florian Motorcycle Club is based in Mardela Springs, Maryland. It is a non-profit organization of firefighters and their spouses.

An Interesting Day On The Plaza



While the former Mayor Barrie Tilghman walked a group of young children throughout Downtown Salisbury yesterday passing these trash cans, I also noticed Allen Hope walking through the Plaza yesterday as well, passing overflowing trash cans. Current Mayor Ireton is a regular on the Downtown Plaza and to be 100% truthful, Public Works was also there today watering the plants but not removing the trash.

So while they ALL talk the talk, they cannot walk the walk. The Plaza looked like this all weekend and throughout Monday. It's ALL politics Folks.

Senate Votes To Deny Funds To ACORN

WASHINGTON -- The Senate voted Monday to block the Housing and Urban Development Department from giving grants to ACORN, a community organization under fire in several voter-registration fraud cases.

The 83-7 vote would deny housing and community grant funding to ACORN, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

The action came as the group is suffering from bad publicity after a duo of conservative activists posing as a prostitute and her pimp released hidden-camera videos in which ACORN employees in Baltimore gave advice on house-buying and how to account on tax forms for the woman's income. Two other videos, aired frequently on media outlets such as the Fox News Channel, depict similar situations in ACORN offices in Brooklyn and Washington, D.C.

The Senate's move would mean that ACORN would not be able to win HUD grants for programs such as counseling low-income people on how to get mortgages and for fair housing education and outreach.

Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., said that ACORN has received $53 million in taxpayer funds since 1994 and that the group was eligible for a wider set of funding in the pending legislation, which funds housing and transportation programs.

U.S. May Face 9/11-Scale Threat From Venezuela

The government of Andorra has frozen “billions of dollars” in bank accounts linked to Iran, Venezuela, and a variety of terrorist groups, according to the daily Diairi d’Andorra, which publishes in Catalan.

The Andorran move, announced on Thursday, was carried out in conjunction with a top secret U.S. Treasury investigation in Miami involving money laundered through Venezuelan banks that was transferred to corresponding banks in the United States.

From Miami, the funds were then wired to accounts in Andorra that were controlled by Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez, members of his family and his regime. But the funds were also used by terrorist groups including Hezbollah, Hamas, Al Qaida, and the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC), according to Diairi d’Andorra, which quoted unnamed Andorran government officials.

Treasury’s move into the tiny principality nestled in the eastern Pyrenees between Spain and France is just the latest move in an international effort to crack down on Iranian money-laundering, with the goal of shutting Iran out of international financial markets.

OPEN LETTER TO MICHAEL STEELE AND THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE


On the first page of your website you have a section that says something to the effect, “tell me what you think.” OK, here it is. How much longer do “we the people” have to sit out here and wait for you to do something? Where is your voice? Where is your spine? Why does a talk show host/entertainer have to do your job? Where is the leadership of the Republican Party in Congress?

If the United States of America survives past 2009 it will certainly not be because the RNC and the congressional leadership stood firm and held news conferences and produced YouTube videos, to keep us, the citizenry informed. What a sad state of affairs when the media controls what we get to hear from you, the elected officials. Are you fearful of what they will call you? Have you no power? Do they own you? The grassroots have been fighting since April to voice our opposition to what is happening in our government. We have held tea parties, town halls, rants in public places, we have all become proficient on face book, twitter, blogs, etc. We stay up most nights trying to Google information, watch Glen Beck, read and re-read our constitution. We have been like blind people trying to put a puzzle together and now that we are succeeding in seeing what is being done to us, it’s a frightening thing. I can only speak for myself but there have been times in the last six months that I have to pinch myself and ask if I am still in my country.

We have spent time calling, writing, emailing, petitioning our elected officials and we are called un-American, terrorists, mobs, dangerous, right-wing extremists, kooks, etc. I don’t hear national voices calling the main stream media to task for attacking us. I have only heard of one congressman who is going to the Library of Congress before the session begins to look up information on “redressing of grievances”. Why hasn’t the entire Republican congress called a meeting to ask the same thing?

We begged the Republicans to stop cap and trade and they did not. I can’t believe that any thinking person would even be talking about trying to pass something as heinous as HR 3200. When I hear a Republican, especially McCain talk about tweaking the bill and then passing it, I want to scream! What could these people be thinking. The only thing that could help this bill is for it to be flushed!

Do you watch television? Do you watch Fox News? Do you watch Glen Beck? I’m appalled that there has not been a movement from the Republican Party to impeach this man who is living in our White House. Don’t even try to tell me that we can’t do that. We must impeach him. Are you aware that Van Jones, the green job czar, whose organization, the Apollo Alliance wrote the stimulus bill and is receiving tax dollars to dismantle our country? Van Jones is a self-avowed communist! Those are his words. This man is an advisor to the President? How can that happen? How can any elected official stand by and let this happen? Who is representing us?

What about Cass Sunstein? This man is a fascist nut. Yes, I did say fascist. I’m sick of not being able to speak truths because we’re fearful of not being politically correct. Guess what? We are out of the p.c. closet. Sunstein is a proponent of the ‘nudge’ philosophy - Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness. Our decisions, our health, our wealth and our happiness. No thank you. This man thinks animals should have the right to take people to court??? This is not a fairy tale.

Now we hear that our Internet may be taken from us through legislation. SB 773. Will this be carried out through martial law? I have not heard one Republican official say that they are not going to allow this to happen.

Are all the conspiracy theorists correct when they say that the Republicans are just as instrumental in destroying our country as the liberal fascist arm of the Democratic Party are?

The President is destroying the United States of America. If a Russian Professor can see it, and write articles about it, why can’t you? What do we need to do to start the impeachment process? I could list numerous other things that he has done that I believe are in direct opposition to our constitution but I don’t have the time or the space. You could contact Glen Beck, he will fill you in.

I am going to put this letter on Face book, Twitter, blogs; I’m going to email it to every address I can get my hands on. I will send it as a press release to every media outlet I can think of and who knows, maybe one or two will print it. I’m going to send it to talk shows and I’m also going to email it to you. I certainly hope I receive an answer and if I do, I will also send that out to all the above mentioned sites.
