Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers predicted that if Donald Trump were elected, there would be a protracted recession within 18 months. Heeding its experts, a month before the election, The Washington Post ran an editorial with the headline "A President Trump could destroy the world economy." Steve Rattner, a Democratic financier and former head of the National Economic Council, warned, "If the unlikely event happens and Trump wins, you will see a market crash of historic proportions." When Trump's electoral victory became apparent, Nobel Prize-winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman warned that the world was "very probably looking at a global recession, with no end in sight." By the way, Krugman has been so wrong in so many of his economic predictions, but that doesn't stop him from making more shameless predictions.
People whom we've trusted as experts have often been wrong beyond imagination, and it's nothing new. Irving Fisher, a distinguished Yale University economics professor in 1929, predicted, "Stock prices have reached what looks like a permanently high plateau." Three days later, the stock market crashed. In 1945, regarding money spent on the Manhattan Project, Adm. William Leahy told President Harry S. Truman, "That is the biggest fool thing we have ever done. The (atomic) bomb will never go off, and I speak as an expert in explosives."

Sessions repeats 'Lock her up' chant as he accuses colleges of creating snowflakes
Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday told a group of conservative high school students that colleges have created a generation of “sanctimonious, sensitive, supercilious snowflakes.”
He also participated in a chant of “Lock her up” during the speech, referencing a rallying cry used by then-candidate Donald Trump against his 2016 presidential election opponent, Hillary Clinton.
Mr. Trump used the “Lock her up” catchphrase as part of his claim that Mrs. Clinton should be jailed for her use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.
Speaking at Turning Point USA High School Leadership Summit at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., Mr. Sessions went on a fiery tirade accusing colleges of coddling students. He railed against the liberal ideology of safe spaces and grade inflation.
“Rather than molding a generation of mature, well-informed adults, some schools are doing everything they can to create a generation of sanctimonious, sensitive, supercilious snowflakes,” he said.
He also mocked Cornell University for holding a “cry-in” after President Trump’s election in 2016 and the University of Michigan and Tufts University, where students were encouraged to draw their feelings about the president’s victory.
“This is a disservice to their students and a disservice to this nation,” he said.

Tammy Baldwin Surpasses $200,000 in Bundled Contributions From D.C. Lobbyists
Senator Tammy Baldwin (Hypocrat-Wisc.), who has pushed to limit the influence of special interests during her first term in the Senate, has raked in more than $200,000 in bundled contributions this cycle from lobbyists at two far-left organizations, filings show.
Individuals at the J Street PAC, a controversial Washington, D.C.-based Middle East advocacy group that was one of the most ardent supporters of President Obama's Iran nuclear deal, and the League of Conservation Voters, an environmental group also based in D.C., supplied the money to Baldwin's campaign.
J Street is often referred to as an "anti-Israel group" by supporters of the Jewish state.
The organization poured millions into a public relations campaign blitz backing Obama's Iran nuclear deal.
Lobbyists at the League of Conservation Voters have bundled $50,000 for Baldwin's campaign.

Ohio GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Pledges State Will Buy Safety Vests for All Officers
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine (R.) has pledged that if he is elected governor, the state will buy safety vests for all law enforcement officers in Ohio.
DeWine said in a Monday press release he would have the Bureau of Workers Compensation purchase the vests, given a function of the agency is workplace safety.
"Workplace safety is part of the mission of our workers compensation system," DeWine said. "We owe to our first responders to do all we can to see that they have the best possible protection when facing the dangers that come with the job of keeping Ohio communities safe."
In many cash-strapped jurisdictions, safety vests are not regularly issued or are used beyond their recommended life cycle, as the materials in the vests degrade over time. To equip all officers with vests, it would cost Ohio an estimated $5.75 million.

FDA recalls blood pressure, heart failure medications after cancer-causing agents found
Check your prescriptions to see if you may have the impacted products.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting health care professionals and patients of a recall of several drugs that contain the ingredient valsartan.
Valsartan is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, according to the FDA. There has been an impurity found in valsartan called N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA).
NDMA is classified as a probable human carcinogen based on lab tests.
The FDA believes this sudden presence of NDMA is because of the way the substance was manufactured.
Here are some of the companies who are recalling products:
Major Pharmeceuticals
Solco Healthcare
Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd.
“We have carefully assessed the valsartan-containing medications sold in the United States, and we’ve found that the valsartan sold by these specific companies does not meet our safety standards. This is why we’ve asked these companies to take immediate action to protect patients,” said Janet Woodcock, M.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

BELGIAN POLITICIAN SAYS CIVIL WAR IN EUROPE “CLOSER THAN WE THINK”
“Large cities will be the battlefields”
A Belgian politician says civil war in Europe is “closer than we think” as a result of authorities losing control of entire areas of cities now dominated by Islamic gangs.
According to Filip Dewinter, one of the leading members of the right-wing Vlaams Belang party, recent attacks on police are meant to undermine the government, while attacks on shops, bars and cafés are supposed to represent attacks on white culture.
“I think the tensions will only increase,” Dewinter told Belgian news outletSceptr. “What we see is a sort of ethnic underside of society, people who aren’t raised well and who know nothing else other than rioting, violence and vandalism.”
“We have reached a pre-revolutionary condition in which people separate themselves from society into gangs motivated by radical Islam,” he added.
“This form of violence can lead to a civil war if governments lose control and white people revolt,” said the politician, warning that, “Complete neighborhoods are already beyond control of the government and the police because Islamic cultural structures have overtaken them.”
“This situation is closer than we think, it could erupt really quickly and large cities will be the battlefields,” concluded Dewinter.
Dewinter posted a video of a white man being viciously beaten by a gang of migrant-background males after France’s World Cup win as an illustration of the “lynching, violence and vandalism” he sees becoming more common. The gang also targeted a bar.

5 Modern Myths People Need to Stop Believing
Those of us living in the 21st century are frequently guilty of chronological snobbery. We roll our eyes and snicker at our ancestors because they believed things like putting leeches on people is a good way to cure illness. Or that witches float. However, we moderns are guilty of clinging to our own laughable myths. Here are five myths that modern people need to stop believing.
1. Myers-Briggs
Two housewives, a mother and daughter (Myers and Briggs), spent too much of their free time reading Carl Jung. Unfortunately, the two didn't understand Carl Jung, but that little "hiccup" didn't prevent them from inventing out of thin air the personality test called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Worse, the MBTI has reached the level of sacrosanct for many people. You know which group has yet to embrace the MBTI? Actual psychologists. In fact, Carl Jung denounced the MBTI as based on unproven theories and, what's more, declared that neither Myers nor Briggs demonstrated any understanding of those theories anyway.

Maxine Waters distances herself from flag burning supporters
California Democrat Maxine Waters has distanced herself from supporters who burned a US flag outside her office as they counter-protested a far-right militia group.
A few dozen supporters made a rebellious appearance outside the congresswoman's Los Angeles office on Thursday to counter the expected protest by the far-right Oath Keepers group.
The flag-burning incident occurred soon after the Oath Keepers group failed to show despite vowing that it would rally against the Waters.

Two drinks a month during pregnancy raises children's risk of low IQs
Just two alcoholic drinks a month during pregnancy raises children's risk of having low IQs and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), new research suggests.
Youngsters whose mothers drank while expecting score six points lower on IQ tests and are more likely to have poor attention skills than those whose mums went teetotal, a German study found.
Such children have 193 mutated genes, which are associated with brain cell development, the research adds.
Previous studies suggest youngsters who were exposed to alcohol in the womb are more likely to suffer from hyperactivity and impulsive actions.
The NHS and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend pregnant women or those trying to conceive abstain from alcohol.

A Viewer Writes: The 'disconnect' is between the article's title and the content
Coming from Bloomberg, I'm not surprised.
The title says that scientists have conclusive proof that climate change is man-made but the article does not discuss proof that humans are the cause, only that over the last 4 decades, the climate is warming and does not connect any dots or show correlation. One more instance of propaganda.
Liberals and tree huggers: so called 'deniers' are not arguing that the climate is warming, only that scientists cannot prove that humans or cow farts are the cause!

‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Communist Protesters March Against Vice President Pence
Protesters adorned in red hoods mimicking The Handmaid’s Tale television show showed up by the dozens to protest Vice President Mike Pence’s visit to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Monday.
Chants of “this nightmare must end” rang from the protesters in red hoods and white bonnets, according to the Associated Press. The group’s grievances ranged from “Trump administration policies on abortion rights, LGBT rights, immigration, and other issues” and Barletta’s support for Trump, according to the report. The Handmaid’s Tale is a book turned into a television series that depicts a totalitarian society where women are forced into sexual servitude.

WATCH: Road Raging Cop Beats Innocent Cancer Patient for Telling Him to Slow Down
Indianapolis, IN — A deeply disturbing video has sparked an internal investigation into an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer after he was seen throwing an innocent man — who is recovering from brain cancer — to the ground and savagely beating him. The cop was in an apparent fit of road rage and the incident was captured on surveillance footage.
The disturbing video showed the unprovoked assault of Tom Trickle as he stood in his driveway on West Banta Road Thursday waiting for the delivery of a refrigerator.
According to several of the residents in the area, people often speed down West Banta despite it being a residential street. The IMPD officer was one of these alleged speeders.

Buchanan: Trump Stands His Ground On Putin
“Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”
Under the Constitution, these are the offenses for which presidents can be impeached.
And to hear our elites, Donald Trump is guilty of them all.
Trump’s refusal to challenge Vladimir Putin’s claim at Helsinki - that his GRU boys did not hack Hillary Clinton’s campaign - has been called treason, a refusal to do his sworn duty to protect and defend the United States, by a former director of the CIA.
Famed journalists and former high officials of the U.S. government have called Russia’s hacking of the DNC “an act of war” comparable to Pearl Harbor.
The New York Times ran a story on how many are now charging Trump with treason. Others suggest Putin is blackmailing Trump, or has him on his payroll, or compromised Trump a long time ago.
Wailed Congressman Steve Cohen: “Where is our military folks? The Commander in Chief is in the hands of our enemy!”
Apparently, some on the left believe we need a military coup to save our democracy.
Not since Robert Welch of the John Birch Society called Dwight Eisenhower a “conscious agent of the Communist conspiracy,” have such charges been hurled at a president. But while the Birchers were a bit outside the mainstream, today it is the establishment itself bawling “Treason!”
What explains the hysteria?

‘SOROS BRILLIANT, BUT EVIL’: BANNON TO RIVAL OPEN SOCIETY FOUNDATIONS IN EUROPE

Steve Bannon, the former chief strategist in the Trump administration, has announced that he will be establishing a foundation aimed at supporting right-wing groups across Europe. According to The Daily Best, Bannon wants to offer an alternative to George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, which he regards as a successful project, although he doesn’t share its agenda.
“Soros is brilliant. He’s evil, but he’s brilliant,” the former chief strategist said in an interview with The Daily Beast.

Why Did 'Russian Agent' Butina Meet With Obama's Fed, Treasury Officials In 2015?
Accused Russian spy Maria Butina had far more significant contacts in Washington than previously known - having taken part in April, 2015 meetings between a visiting Russian official and two senior officials at the Treasury Department and Federal Reserve, according to Reuters which sites people familiar with the meetings, as well as a report from a Washington think tank that arranged them.
The two officials were Stanley Fischer, Fed vice chairman at the time, and Nathan Sheets, who was then-Treasury undersecretary for international affairs.
Fischer, and Israeli-American economist, served as governor of the Bank of Israel from 2005 - 2013 before President Obama nominated him to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in January, 2014. He resigned in late October for personal reasons.
Sheets, head of Global Macro at Prudential, was formerly the Global Head of International Economics at Citigroup after having spent for 18 years at the Federal Reserve. He was nominated by Obama for his Treasury position in February, 2014.
In April, 2015, Fischer and Sheets met with Butina and Alexander Torshin - then the Russian Central Bank deputy governor, where they participated in separate meetings with Fischer and Sheets to discuss US-Russian economic relations during President Obama's administration.
Fischer, an in email to Reuters, confirmed he met with Torshin and his interpreter. While he could not recall details, Fischer said the conversation involved “the state of the Russian economy” and Torshin’s new role as deputy central bank governor.
“I recall Mr. Torshin mentioning, as an aside, that he planned to attend a meeting of the National Rifle Association, a fact that I considered irrelevant to our conversation,” Fischer wrote to Reuters. -Reuters
As a related aside, the recently immune Tony Podesta was paid $170,000 over a 6-month period ending September 2016 to lobby against sanctions handed down by the Obama administration over the 2014 annexation of Crimea, a relationship SunTrust bank would sever ties with Podesta over.

MAJOR SALISBURY FOLK FESTIVAL UPDATE!!!
Day claimed there'd be some 300,000 people attending. Recently that number dropped to 30,000. ANYONE truly interested in attending this event would've easily contacted the numerous options and those roomed would say no vacancy 5 weeks before the event.
The event is clearly a flop before it starts.
I also learned today that GUESS WHAT, the event that happened the past three years in the Carolina's will be going the exact same dates as the Salisbury Festival.
It turns out they plan the event for let's say Salisbury for 3 years. When the 3 years is up the City takes over the event. HOWEVER, every single city across America who hosted this event in the past will be competing with each other from here on out.
So the 300,000 people BS is just that, complete BS. Jake Day and his Staff have been BS'ing everyone all this time. People will NOT be coming from the Carolina's or ANY other place this event has been held and remember, they ALL host the same event on the exact same dates. It's NO WONDER Day and his group can't seem to BOOK any real talent for the event as well. They're ALL booked at other locations.
This whole thing is turning out to be a joke. It's no wonder most local businesses want nothing to do with the event.
Bipartisan Coalition of Attorneys General Urge Congressional Leaders to Protect the Integrity of America’s Voting Systems
BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today joined a bipartisan coalition of 21 Attorneys General in urging congressional leaders to improve America’s cyber security and protect the integrity upcoming elections against cyberattacks and
infiltrations like the ones committed by Russia in 2016. The latest investigations into that attack shows Russian hackers targeted the American electoral system, stole the private information of
hundreds of thousands of people, and infiltrated a company that supplies voting software across the nation, putting the upcoming election at serious risk.
“We know that Russians hacked our election systems in 2016 and stole sensitive voter information,” said Attorney General Frosh. “States are taking steps to protect their infrastructure, but we need help from the federal government. Our Congressional leaders must
act swiftly to prevent further interference and to protect the integrity of upcoming elections.”

'Perpetual War' Explained In 140 Seconds
In 1935, Major General Smedley Butler warned the world that "War is a racket. It always has been..."
"It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives."
And we ignored it.
26 years later, in 1961, President Dwight Eisenhower - a retired five-star Army general - gave the nation a dire warning about what he described as a threat to democratic government. He called it the military-industrial complex, a formidable union of defense contractors and the armed forces.
"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist."
In his remarks, Eisenhower also explained how the situation had developed:
"Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of ploughshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions."
57 years after that, we see exactly what they warned about... and as far as we can tell, only Ron and Rand Paul remain to argue against 'war' - even though President Trump talks of 'peace', the bombing continues - and so here we are today, beholden to the US war machine...

SMARTPHONES ARE KILLING TEENAGERS’ MEMORIES, STUDY SAYS
Radiofrequency electromagnetic fields affecting memory, say researchers
New research suggests that radiation from smartphones is negatively impacting teenagers’ memories, leaving them with short-term memory loss.
The concern is that a year’s worth of radiation could be enough to damage the part of the brain that interprets images and shapes.
According to the study, which was published Monday, researchers found that there is a negative impact on memory performance after exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) radiation.

An Open Letter To Mr. Brennan
Dear Mr. Brennan,
I understand that you are a political opponent of the current President of the United States. I understand that you are an American citizen, and you have the right to freedom of speech. I encourage you to utilize that right. I encourage you to speak your mind. I encourage you, as I do all Americans, to be heard.
I implore you, however to cease and desist from continuing to attempt to portray yourself in the public media as some sort of impartial critic concerned only with the fate of the republic. I beg you to stop attempting to portray yourself as some sort of wise, all-knowing intelligence professional with deep knowledge of national security issues and no political inclinations whatsoever.
None of this is true.

Sean Spicer Challenges the Phony Media ‘Fact Checkers’
Breitbart News received an exclusive preview of former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s new book The Briefing: Politics, The Press, and The President, published by Regnery on July 24. In the book Spicer provides a behind-the-scenes look at his tenure working in President Donald Trump’s White House.
Read an excerpt from the book below:
One group that I find interesting is the self-appointed “fact checkers” of the Washington Post and other media outlets, who could learn a thing or two from their more careful brethren.
For example, when Vice President Pence said there are more Americans at work today than ever before, the Washington Post “fact checker” Nicole Lewis took him to task for failing to note that the United States population has risen, swelling the numbers of those at work. The vice president was awarded three “Pinocchios” out of four for “significant factual error and/or obvious contradictions” when, in fact, what he had said was the plain truth, though Lewis made a fair point about context. When someone tells the truth and the Washington Post deems that person a three-Pinnocchio liar, is that “fact checking” or partisan nitpicking?
After substantial criticism, a Washington Post editor added, “[T]he fact that Pence’s remark elicited applause was a strong indication that it was misleading.” Really? Did the fact checkers rate President Obama’s applause lines the same way? Actually, surprise, they didn’t.

Public Sector Pensions: The Parasite Devours Its Host
The Wall Street Journal recently highlighted a better method of analysing the impact of public sector pensions on state and local budgets.
The results are ominous for government finances, the bond markets, and pretty much everything else:
Why Your Pension Is Doomed
A new study shows that benefits are rising faster than GDP in most states.
Pension costs are soaring across the country, and government unions blame politicians for “under-funding” benefits. Lo, if only taxes were higher, state budgets would be peachy. The real problem, as a new study shows, is that politicians have promised over-generous benefits.
In a novel analysis, the Illinois-based policy outfit Wirepoints compared the growth of state pension liabilities relative to state GDP and fund assets. Most studies have examined “unfunded” pension liabilities, which is the difference between current assets and the present value of owed benefits. But this obfuscates the excessive pension promises that politicians have made.
According to the study, accrued liabilities—how much states are on the hook for—between 2003 and 2016 grew more than 50% faster than the economies in 28 states and more than twice as fast as GDP in 12 states. Leading the list are the usual suspects of New Jersey (4.3 times faster than GDP), Illinois (3.23) and Connecticut (3.18), as well as New Hampshire (3.46) and Kentucky (3.08).
Between 2003 and 2016, New Jersey’s pension liability ballooned 176%. Unions blame lawmakers for not socking away more money years ago, though lower pension payments helped them bargain for higher pay.The reality is that New Jersey’s pension funds would be broke even had politicians squirrelled away billions more.
Ditto for Illinois, where the pension liability has grown by 8.8% annually over the last 30 years. Yet when the Illinois Supreme Court in 2015 blocked state pension reforms, the judges rebuked politicians for inadequately funding pensions. The solution, according to unions, is always to raise taxes. But no tax hike is ever enough because benefits keep growing faster than revenues.

Two Baltimore Area Tax Preparers Guilty of Filing False Returns
BALTIMORE, Md. - Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh and Comptroller Peter Franchot today announced that two Baltimore-area tax preparers pleaded guilty to filing false tax returns.
Michael Anegbode, 29, of Windsor Mill, operated MK Tax Service. He pleaded guilty to three counts of filing false income tax returns and was ordered to pay $48,808 in restitution and serve three years' probation. Uwagbale Oigbokie, 39, of Baltimore, operated Jovan Tax Service. He pleaded guilty to two counts of filing false tax returns and was ordered to pay $81,712 in restitution and serve two years' probation.
Both Anegbode and Oigbokie prepared and filed false personal income tax returns which failed to reflect fees earned by filing false tax returns on behalf of numerous paying clients. Specifically, many of the tax returns filed on behalf of their clients included false information to fraudulently minimize the taxpayers' Maryland tax liabilities and increase the tax refunds the taxpayers received from the Comptroller.
"These tax preparers had a responsibility to file honest returns," said Attorney General Frosh. "They cheated twice. They falsely understated the taxes owed by their clients, and then they did not report the fees that they earned themselves. We will continue to pursue tax preparers and others who engage in this kind of fraud."
"Protecting Marylanders from unscrupulous tax preparers is a top priority for my office," said Comptroller Franchot. "Our Field Enforcement officers will continue to vigilantly investigate those who try to cheat our state and I want to thank the Attorney General's Office for its partnership and its efforts prosecuting these cases."
The case was investigated by the Comptroller's Field Enforcement Division and prosecuted by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General's Office.

Keith Ellison Suggests Republicans Want To Suppress Voting
Minnesota Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison suggested that Republicans want to suppress voters in a Sunday tweet.
“Yup,” Ellison, who’s also the Democratic National Committee’s deputy chair, replied to another tweet saying “‘If voting didn’t matter, the GOP wouldn’t be working so hard to prevent people from doing it.'”
Yup. Thanks for sharing it. https://t.co/4n495YDtXB
— Keith Ellison (@keithellison) July 22, 2018
This isn’t the first time Ellison has linked the GOP to voter suppression.
“More proof of Republicans using race to suppress POC votes. Read before you judge,” Ellison tweeted in 2016 with a link to an article that said Republicans who live in districts with “substantial” black populations are most likely to be supportive of voter ID laws.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo Pardons 7 Ex-Criminal Immigrants To Prevent Their Deportation
“At a time when President Trump and the federal government are waging a war on our immigrant communities, New York stands firm in our belief that our diversity is our greatest strength. While President Trump engages in politics that rip children out of the arms of their mothers and tries to ramp up the deportation of New Yorkers to advance his political agenda of hate and division, we will protect our immigrant communities,” Cuomo said, according to ABC News.
Said ex-criminals have allegedly led crime-free lives over the last seven years, at a minimum, which was the base requirement of Cuomo’s decision to pardon these seven individuals and excuse their old crimes.

Toronto Mass Shooter Identified As 29-Year-Old Faisal Hussain
Ontario police has identified the man responsible for a shooting rampage in Toronto’s Greektown as Faisal Hussain. The Special Investigations Unit says Hussain is a 29-year-old from Toronto, the National Post reported.
The provincial police watchdog released Hussain’s identity in a statement after speaking with a member of his family.
“Due to the exceptional circumstances of this tragic incident and the public interest in knowing the man’s identity, the SIU is identifying the man as Faisal Hussain of Toronto,” the statement read.
The Hussain family released a statement expressing their condolences to the families “who are now suffering on account of our son’s horrific actions.”
“We are utterly devastated by the incomprehensible news that our son was responsible for the senseless violence and loss of life that took place on the Danforth,” they said
They added that Hussain had “severe mental health challenges” and was struggling with psychosis and depression his entire life.
“Medications and therapy were unable to treat him. While we did our best to seek help for him throughout his life of struggle and pain, we could never imagine that this would be his devastating and destructive end,” they said.

Delaware Wild Lands purchases 635 acres in southern New Castle County
Delaware Wild Lands purchases 635 acres in southern New Castle County, a success made possible by a broad group of supporters
Passmore Farm creates 10,600 contiguous acres of protected land
ODESSA, Del. – Delaware Wild Lands (DWL) is pleased to announce their acquisition of the Passmore Farm along Route 9 at Taylors Bridge in southern New Castle County. Representing some of Delaware’s best natural beauty and cultural history, these 635 acres include a mix of healthy saltmarsh, upland forest, freshwater springs, and productive cropland. The property is adjacent to the 1,250-acre Roberts Farm that DWL acquired in 2015 in partnership with Mt. Cuba Center and The Conservation Fund.
Over the last year, a broad collection of individual donors, community organizations, and private foundations enthusiastically responded with contributions to help protect the Passmore Farm.
In particular, Delaware Wild Lands gratefully acknowledges the leadership of Mt. Cuba Center, Longwood Foundation, Ellice and Rosa McDonald Foundation, Crestlea Foundation, and Welfare Foundation. Other funders that advanced the cause include Fair Play Foundation, Marmot Foundation, Shrieking Meadow Foundation, Starrett Foundation, and Wildwood Foundation.
Donations from community partners such as Delmarva Ornithological Society’s annual Bird-A-Thon, GreenWatch Institute, and many individual donors were pivotal in DWL’s efforts to meet a challenge grant from Mt. Cuba Center and raise sufficient funds to close on this important acquisition.
For more than 50 years, DWL has been strategically protecting land in and around Taylors Bridge. Purchase of the Passmore Farm adds the newest piece in a larger conservation puzzle of contiguous wildlife habitat in one of the most rapidly developing areas of the state. The opportunity to expand such an important legacy of conservation and protect more of Delaware’s iconic resources was one of the most compelling reasons so many people were inspired to contribute to this project.

Blame Democrats -- not Trump -- for sabotaging ObamaCare
Premiums for health insurance plans on ObamaCare's exchanges will rise an average of 15 percent next year, according to a new report from the Congressional Budget Office.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has blamed President Trump and congressional Republicans for the rate hikes – and for "deliberately sabotaging our health care system."
Schumer is half right – ObamaCare's insurance markets have indeed been sabotaged. But Schumer and his fellow Democrats are the saboteurs. They're the ones who wove ObamaCare's incoherent web of mandates, which are the real reason insurance premiums are soaring.
Progressives argue that two changes implemented by Republicans have led to the premium hikes: the elimination of ObamaCare's cost-sharing reduction subsidies and the repeal of the individual mandate.

Israel Strikes Syrian Military Site Tied to Iran
Haaretz reports: Israeli fighter jets attacked targets in western Syria on Sunday, according to reports in Syria and Lebanon.
The strike took place some 50 kilometers out of the town Masyaf, located south-west of Hama, Syrian news agency SANA reported. According to the Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen channel, the attack was carried out by Israeli jets firing missiles from Lebanese airspace.
The Lebanese report said that the strike targeted a scientific facility, but the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a U.K.-based monitoring group, said that the site was a missile warehouse used by the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Soros-Funded ACLU Running Robocalls Against Kris Kobach in Kansas Governor’s Race
The pro-open borders American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) organization—funded by globalist billionaire George Soros—is now running robocalls against Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach in his bid for the governorship, Breitbart News has learned.
In audio of the robocall, exclusively obtained by Breitbart News, the ACLU attacks Kobach for his staunch fight for proof of citizenship laws for Kansas voters to prevent voter fraud.
“I’m calling for the ACLU of Kansas about the Republican primary election for governor that’s coming up on Tuesday, August 7,” the ACLU representative can be heard saying. “We’re not endorsing candidates in elections but would like you to know where Kris Kobach stands on key civil liberties issues.”
"Kobach violated Kansas privacy by exposing voters’ personal information,” the caller says.
“He also wasted government funds by misleading a federal judge about his work to undermine the voting rights of Kansans,” the caller continues.
“We hope you join the rest of your fellow Kansans in voting to protect our privacy and other civil liberties on Tuesday, August 7,” the ACLU caller concludes.

Ninth Circuit: Limiting Open Carry to Police, Security Guards Violates Second Amendment
A three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled Tuesday that restricting the open carry of firearms to police and security-related personnel infringes the Second Amendment.
Breitbart News reported that the ruling was handed down in an appeal of George Young’s suit against Hawaii. Young sued after being twice denied a license to carry a gun outside his home and a District Court sided with Hawaii. The Ninth Circuit’s three-judge panel sided with Young, noting that the “Second Amendment does protect a right to carry a firearm in public for self-defense.”
The majority opinion in the ruling was written by Ninth Circuit Judge Diarmuid O’Scannlain, who said:
Restricting open carry to those whose job entails protecting life or property necessarily restricts open carry to a small and insulated subset of law-abiding citizens. Just as the Second Amendment does not protect a right to bear arms only in connection with a militia, it surely does not protect a right to bear arms only as a security guard. The typical, law-abiding citizen in the State of Hawaii is therefore entirely foreclosed from exercising the core Second Amendment right to bear arms for self-defense.

‘Worst Boss I Ever Had Taught Lessons I’ll Never Forget’
If you’re taking pity on yourself because you think you’re saddled with the world’s worst boss, consider the story of a woman in the New York City area whose encounter with a less-than-perfect manager stayed with her for years after it occurred.
Monica Jones (not her real name), who was in her late 20s at that time, recalled how a supervisor she reported to for a period of time was especially hard on her — and had strange ways of showing it.
“I wrote an important process memo at this manager’s request. I worked incredibly hard on it for more than a week — between my other assignments. I made sure all critical points were included and went out of my way to solicit input” from senior members of her team, she said, who had more experience than she did on certain functions of the department.
Jones spent hours refining her memo, since she knew it would be part of a training manual for other staff members. “I wanted it to be as clear and instructive as possible, and I felt she’d asked me to do this for a reason — so I wanted to deliver on it.”
After she turned it in, the strangest thing happened. She was met with deafening silence...

Income Inequality is Much Worse in Blue States than Red States
One reason Democrat politicians talk a lot about inequality may be that Democrat-dominated states have much higher levels of income disparity.
Income inequality is higher in states that voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 when measured by the average income of the top one percent against the average income of the bottom 99 percent, according to data from a new report by the Economic Policy Institute. For Clinton states, the top incomes were on average 23.6 times the average income for the other 99 percent.
In Trump states, the average for top earners was just 19.7 times the average for everyone else.
Clinton won the majority of the vote in the most unequal state, New York, where top earners make 44 times what other households do. She took 8 out of the top ten, with Trump winning only Florida and Wyoming out of the most 'unequal' states.

China vaccine scandal sparks fury, roils markets
A vaccine scandal in China, which has prompted angry reactions from citizens fed up with safety scares, is sending ripples across the local drug market and threatening Chinese ambitions to play a larger role in the global pharmaceutical space.
Shares in Chinese vaccine makers and biotech firms fell across the board on Monday after Premier Li Keqiang slammed Changsheng Biotechnology Co for having crossed a moral red line and called for swift action.
Changsheng has been found to have faked production documents related to a rabies vaccine that is given to babies as young as three months, underscoring the difficulties China faces in cleaning up the image of the world's second-biggest drug industry as it aims to promote its vaccines globally.
While there have been no known reports of people being harmed by the vaccine, the regulator ordered Changsheng to halt production and recall the product after the scandal emerged earlier this month.
The case has gone viral in China, where sensitivity over food and drug safety is extremely high after a slew of scandals over the last decade.

More City of Salisbury Maryland Shenanigans
There is a large development project downtown - not the beer garden or adjacent apartments - that went out to bid (private developer - you can see where this is going I'm sure) and will break ground very soon. The City has agreed to provide all the fill dirt needed for the project at no charge except loading and hauling - approximately 1,000 loads or about 1,600 tons. This is the taxpayers dirt and I don't think it is right to ship about 1,000 loads of material to a private individual's project at no cost. Why is the City even involved in this and why are they taking away from those trying to earn an honest living?
Businesses Tied to McCaskill’s Husband Get $131 Million in Federal Subsidies
Businesses with ties to Sen. Claire McCaskill’s (D-MO) husband have received $131 million in federal government subsidies since McCaskill’s election to the Senate in 2007, according to a report released Tuesday.
The Kansas City Star reported that McCaskill’s husband, Joseph Shepard, had personal income from investments in federally-funded housing projects receiving money from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that grew exponentially after McCaskill took office in 2007.
In 2006, the year before McCaskill became a senator, McCaskill’s husband reported making between $1,608 and $16,731 from these investments. In 2017, five years into McCaskill’s second Senate term, Shepard reported earning between $365,374 and $1,118,158 in personal income from his investments.
There is no direct evidence that McCaskill is influencing her husband’s investments.

Former Berlin Elected Official To Serve Time For Theft, Issuing Bad Checks
SNOW HILL — A beleaguered former Berlin Town Council member and butcher shop owner was sentenced on Tuesday to five years in jail with all but 18 months suspended in two separate cases of theft from a north-end Ocean City grocery store and issuing bad checks to one of her purveyors.
In August 2017, the Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) began an investigation into the alleged theft of large quantities of meat from the Acme grocery store in the resort by Berlin Butcher Shop owner and former town councilmember Lisa Hall, now 60, of Berlin. According to OCPD officials at the time, Hall was initially suspected of buying cases of various meat products from the Acme in Ocean City and then repackaging it and reselling it at her shop in Berlin, which, among other things, violated health code rules that govern food-selling operations.
However, it later came to light Hall was picking up meat orders from the Acme in Ocean City and not paying for them. In those cases, store cashiers, uncertain if Hall had made prior payment arrangements, allowed the butcher shop owner to leave the store with large meat orders without paying for them. Four months after that investigation, Hall was formally charged with four counts of theft less than $1,000 and one count of theft scheme from $1,000 to under $10,000.

Chicago Mayoral Candidate Gives Away $200,000 Cash To Churchgoing Voters
Chicago mayoral candidate Willie Wilson walked into a South Side church on Sunday flanked by Illinois governor Bruce Rauner and handed out $200,000 in checks and cash to around 2,000 churchgoers, or $100 each, reports the Chicago Sun Times.
Wilson, a millionaire businessman and Rauner who is up for reelection, made it rain at the Covenant Missionary Baptist Church through the Dr. Willie Wilson Foundation, a 501(c)(3). He says he organized the giveaway to assist homeowners who are struggling to pay their property tax bills.
And he acknowledged that, when he holds such an event, people tend to show up without having contacted his foundation first. Some don’t even have ID. But he said he doesn’t turn them away.
“I keep money on me just to give it out,” Wilson said. “We don’t turn them down. We give what we can give them.” -Chicago Sun Times
"My wife and I have been blessed by God to be able to get a few of the material things out of life and so it’s up to us to now continually to share back with all of you all and others,” Wilson told church members during the event.
"We’ve been paying people’s property taxes for years,” Wilson said, adding that the money was also meant to help people pay for smaller expenses, like food or bus passes. -Chicago Sun Times
While the cash giaway was originally listed as $300,000 on his foundation's website, Wilson told the Chicago Sun Times that he gave away close to $200,000. When reached for comment, Wilson's campaign spokesman F. Scott Winsow told WGN news that Sunday's cash giveaway was "absolutely not" a campaign event, and that Wilson just gives cash to people all the time.
“While he happens to be a candidate, he’s been a philanthropist for 30 years,” Winslow said.

Hogan Administration Announces Nearly $80 Million in Federal Funding for Crime Victims
Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention to Award Grants, Expand Services for Victims
ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Hogan administration today announced that the Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention (GOCCP) is making up to $78 million in funding available from the Victims of Crime Assistance Grant (VOCA) program to Maryland counties and programs serving victims of crime. This funding, which will be allocated over a two-year period as outlined in the Notice of Funding Availability, is designated to improve victim services for Maryland residents by identifying, establishing, or expanding resources throughout the state to assist crime victims and their families. The deadline to apply is August 16, 2018.
“Our administration is committed to connecting victims of crime and their families to the vital support and resources they need,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “This funding will help ensure victims are well aware of their rights and have access to the necessary tools to improve their safety and achieve self-sufficiency. We strongly encourage all eligible organizations to apply.”
Funding from the VOCA grant program may be used to support a variety of services and activities to assist victims of crime. Services under this grant program are defined as efforts that: (1) respond to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims; (2) assist primary and secondary victims of crime to stabilize their lives after a victimization; (3) assist victims to understand and participate in the criminal justice system; and (4) provide victims of crime with a measure of safety and security as appropriate to their victimization.
“Victim assistance grants are crucial to rebuilding lives for our citizens in Maryland,” said GOCCP Executive Director Glenn Fueston. “Thanks to Governor Hogan’s strong commitment to support crime victims and their families, we continue to see a positive impact across Maryland, and we look forward to receiving applications.”
This is the 9th year that the Office of Crime Control & Prevention has administered this grant funding. From October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2018, the office administered over $51 million through this program to all counties throughout Maryland. Recipients used funds for services such as crisis intervention, therapy and support groups, emergency transportation and transitional shelter, mental health assistance, criminal justice support, advocacy, and staff training.
VOCA Victim Assistance grants are awarded to organizations that provide direct services to a wide array of crime victims. These agencies include sexual assault and rape crisis centers, domestic violence programs and shelters, child abuse programs, mental health services, and programs for underserved victims. Hospitals and emergency medical facilities that offer crisis counseling, forensic examinations, and other victim services are also eligible for the grants. Criminal justice agencies such as police departments or state’s attorneys’ offices use these funds for victim crisis units, victim advocates, victim registration and notification, and victim-witness programs.
