6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Tonight, Thursday, February 5

and

7 A.M. to 9 A.M., Tomorrow Morning, Friday, February 6

Because of the colder than normal temperatures across our region today and the slow track of this extremely cold weather out of our area, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., tonight, AND between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., tomorrow morning, we are asking you to delay the usage of all unnecessary lights or appliances during these hours.

While one of the largest consumers of electricity in the home during these hours and during this time of year are heating costs, other large consumers of electricity include major appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, clothes dryers, hot water heaters and stoves.

By delaying the use of unnecessary lighting and appliances between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., tonight, AND between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., tomorrow morning, we can save energy resources, avoid high cost energy and help the environment.

We thank you for your help. Together we can “Beat The Peak”

Florida Doctor Investigated In Badly Botched Abortion

By CHRISTINE ARMARIO
Associated Press Writer

Eighteen and pregnant, Sycloria Williams went to an abortion clinic outside Miami and paid $1,200 for Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique to terminate her 23-week pregnancy.

Three days later, she sat in a reclining chair, medicated to dilate her cervix and otherwise get her ready for the procedure.

Only Renelique didn't arrive in time. According to Williams and the Florida Department of Health, she went into labor and delivered a live baby girl.

What Williams and the Health Department say happened next has shocked people on both sides of the abortion debate: One of the clinic's owners, who has no medical license, cut the infant's umbilical cord. Williams says the woman placed the baby in a plastic biohazard bag and threw it out.

Police recovered the decomposing remains in a cardboard box a week later after getting anonymous tips.

Patients At Salisbury Facility Found Malnourished

Officials at a Salisbury facility for people with developmental disabilities say they have corrected problems that caused patients on feeding tubes to become malnourished.

A routine survey by the Maryland Office of Health Care Quality uncovered the problems last fall. Director Wendy Kronmiller says the findings "were extraordinarily serious."

The facility, the Holly Center, continues to be closely monitored by state officials and patient advocates.

The Holly Center was not penalized and Kronmiller says it is not at risk of losing federal funding.

More On Somerset Animal Control!!!!!

"I thought about leaving a comment yesterday and I didn't. But I have had trouble with the sonerset county animal control. And I know that I was in the wrong (I let my two dogs out to do their busness) we lived in the country and next door are chickens, well they took off chasing the chickens, I called for them but they were gone. I went in side to get shoes on and go out to look for them. I did find them.

When I came home from work I had a note on my door letting me know that they had been to my house looking for my dogs. It was about 6:00PM and I desided to wait till I got to work the next day to call. When I did call they informed me that they had just left my house again and they had my dogs, and that I had to pay a fine to them back. I got off work early to go and get my two dogs from the Somerset county animal shelted. I was tring to get my pets back before my girls got home from school and found out they were gone. But that was not happening when I got their to pick them up they asked me for their shot records. I was like what? You didn't tell me that on the phone you said I need to pay the fine. This did not set well with me becuase I know that I could not get home and bring the shot records to them before they closed. They would not even let me see my pets. At this time now that I have alittle atitude, the lady that was their starts to inform me that one of my dogs had bitten someone, but they were not pressing charges. This to me sounded alittle fishy.

So I leave without my pets and not even being able to see them. I get home to figure out that their shots expired three week ago. I knew then that I was going to really pay now. The next day I call work tell them I'll be in late I go to get my pet, when I get thier I recieve a new fine (I knew I would because of the shots) But I also had to pay for them to be in that naste place!! (I have alwas gone to the wicomico county animal shelter and it has never looked and smelled like that place, even when they were in the old building.)

But what really got me the most was that lady who tryed to make me feel as if I were a bad person. She threatened to take my dogs the next time and said I would not get them back if she found them running again(she never caught them in the first place she came to my house and removed them from the chain ) then she asks if I have had them spade, I told her no that they had papers and I may breed them. She lets me know that I can not breed them with out filling out a form for them. Also if they pick my dogs up and they are in heat they will not return then to me (just to make sure I was hearing her right I asked her "untill they come out of heat" no she said for ever!!

Now ontop of all this I have yet seen my pets, and I have been told that I have to take then down the road to a local vet and get them there shots updated(had no problem doing this) they bring my pets out and I can tell that they are scared but oh my god the smell of them was beond me I drive a mercedes and I really didn't want them in my car(they ride all the time) but not only that I had to stop at the local vet I was embarrassed to take my pet in their. I did question thier actions but I move out of the county so I dropped the issue."

Obama's Violates His Campaign Promise Not To Raise Taxes

Obama's First Tax Hike

Yesterday President Obama signed legislation expanding the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), relying largely on a 156-percent increase in the federal cigarette tax to fund it. As Americans for Tax Reform notes, Obama's support for the SCHIP bill violates his campaign promise not to raise taxes on families earning less than $250,000 a year.

Here is how he put it last September in Dover, News Hampshire (emphasis added):

“I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.”

Not only does raising the federal cigarette tax from 39 cents to $1 a pack break this promise it is pretty much the most regressive way Congress could have chosen to fund SCHIP expansion, not only because excise taxes take a bigger chunk of income from the poor than from the rich but also because there's an inverse correlation between income and smoking. Furthermore, the beneficiaries of the SCHIP expansion will in many cases be more affluent than the people picking up the tab. How does any self-identified progressive justify this sort of income redistribution?

A Comment Worthy Of A Post

"As someone that spent nearly 30 years in law enforcement, I say based on experience having small municipal police departments is counterproductive to the mission of supressing criminal activity and arresting those persons responsible for committing it. Police departments by and large do a pretty poor job disseminating pertinent criminal information and intelligence within their own agency. Patrol officers are often left in the dark about vital information that those in their own criminal investigation section possess. On a much grander scale, the same dearth of informational exchange occurs between agencies coexisting within the same county bounderies. Most times getting credit for improving stats and egos are at play.

Money is a big factor in the effectiveness of a police department in being a serious crime fighting entity. These small five man departments barely have enough money to put a marked police car on the street, or provide the citizens round-the-clock protection. Salisbury Police Department, one of the largest agencies in Wicomico County, doesn't even have its own crime lab. Instead, they must rely on the availability of the Maryland State Crime lab. The Maryland State Police maintains a minimum presence in the county, usually with no more than three troopers on the road to cover the entire county at any one time. And their forte, and what the troopers get evaluated on, is their traffic stats. There's talk about creating one county police agency here in Wicomico. Carroll County has been having this discussion for years. Things are in place to make the Carroll County Sheriff's Department the county's police force.

Concerning middle-management in police departments, law enforcement agencies in most instances are no different than private companies. Folks that have time on the job; showed they can perform their current job; have demonstrated they're a team player; and demonstrate they're familiar with the agency's/company's administrative and operating procedures rise to mid-level and upper management. Only one problem with this: they have absolutely no management skills. Management skills, like learning to hit a baseball or golf ball, must be taught, understood, practiced and assimulated to do it correctly and effectively. Most managers, especially police management, are never taught the essential management skills of strategic planning, how to build a winning team, how to educate not just train employees, how to build winning relationships, how to deal with conflict, how to develop managerial leadership, the art of problem solving, how to motivate, how to negotiate, and, yes, even in police departments, how to create a customer service environment. Morale is often bad in police departments because the managers simply have no clue how to be effective, productive managers. Talk to any disgruntled employee and they'll tell you they don't dislike where they work because of pay or benefits, the do so because they feel their efforts aren't valued. Motivation by intimidation doesn't work.

As a citizen of Wicomico County, I hope the county moves forward and creates a single law enforcement agency to oversee law enforcement in the county. Once that's done, I hope the county executive appoints a chief of police that is both educated and progressive. And that the county commits enough resources to that agency so that they can attract and retain the best and brightest, as well as outfit the agency with crime-fighting technology that has been around for decades. The citizens deserve it, as do the criminals.

And to add to my last comment, after having only a handful left, you have to hire and train more officers, but in order to attract quality people you have to pay more....with a 45 million dollar law suit, I don't foresee any pay increases in the near future!!"

Dover Downs, "The Budweiser Celebrity Shootout"

Ladies & Gentlemen, Remember the Billiard Event I Hosted at Dover Downs with all the Nascar Drivers? Well, here's the entire Show. Kick back and enjoy! I start Commentating with Female Professional Pool Player Liz Ford around 1/2 way through, till the end.

This truly was a special event and yet another huge event brought to the Eastern Shore. Can't wait till this years event! Our thanks goes out to Dover Downs, especially Jeannine Lahey and Mr. Bruce Hunter from Bruce's Billiards right here in Salisbury.

In case I hadn't mentioned it earlier, Dover Downs had the Pool Tables lined up from a company in Pennsylvania and they backed out 2 days before the event was to take place. I called Bruce and asked if there was any way he could provide 4 tables, set them up pretty much overnight and also participate refereeing the event and he agreed to do so right then and there. Bruce and I had a fantastic time and we're happy to see this Show is now being played all over television across the United States.

If You Have A Dog, Please Read

To have 5 beautiful dogs of my own, 1 of which begs for grapes when we eat them, I was totally alarmed knowing now that he could have gotten very sick or potentially died from my ignorance of the toxicity of grapes to dogs. ---

From Laurinda Morris, DVM
Danville Veterinary Clinic Danville, OH

This week I had the first case in history of raisin Toxicity ever seen at MedVet. My patient was
A 56-pound, 5 yr old male neutered lab mix that ate half a canister of raisins sometime
Between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM on Tuesday. He started with vomiting, diarrhea and shaking
About 1 AM on Wednesday but the owner didn't call my emergency service until 7 AM. 0
I had heard somewhere about raisins AND grapes causing acute Renal failure but hadn't seen any formal paper on the subject. We had her bring the dog in immediately. In the meantime, I called the ER service at MedVet, and the doctor there was like me - had heard something about it, but... Anyway, we contacted the ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center and they said to give IV fluids at 1 & 1/2 times maintenance and watch the kidney values for the next 48-72 hours.

The dog's BUN (blood urea nitrogen level) was already at 32 (normal less than 27) and Creatinine over 5 (1.9 is the high end of normal). Both are monitors of kidney function in the
Bloodstream. We placed an IV catheter and started the fluids. Rechecked the renal values
At 5 PM and the BUN was over 40 and creatinine over 7 with no urine production after a liter of
Fluids.

At that point I felt the dog was in acute renal failure and sent him on to MedVet for a
Urinary catheter to monitor urine output overnight as well as overnight care. He started vomiting again overnight at MedVet and his renal values continued to increase daily. He produced urine when given lasix as a diuretic. He was on 3 different anti-vomiting medications and they still couldn't control his vomiting.

Today his urine output decreased again, his BUN was over 120, his creatinine was at 10, his phosphorus was very elevated and his blood pressure, which had been staying around 150, skyrocketed to 220 ... He continued to vomit and the owners elected to Euthanize.

This is a very sad case - great dog, great owners who had no idea raisins could be a toxin. Please
alert everyone you know who has a dog of this very serious risk. Poison control said as few as 7 raisins or grapes could be toxic. Many people I know give their dogs grapes or raisins as treats including our ex-handler's. Any exposure should give rise to immediate concern.
Onions, chocolate, cocoa and macadamia nuts can be fatal, too.

Confirmation from Snopes about the above ...

Bill Gates Unleashes Swarm Of Mosquitoes On Crowd

Microsoft founder turned philanthropist Bill Gates released a glass full of mosquitoes at an elite technology conference to make a point about the deadly disease malaria.

"Malaria is spread by mosquitoes," Gates said while opening a jar onstage at the Technology, Entertainment, Design Conference — a gathering known to attract technology kings, politicians, and Hollywood stars.

"I brought some. Here I'll let them roam around. There is no reason only poor people should be infected."

Now can you get your mind around how much these SOB's have robbed from our future, only to line their pockets before we fall to absolute ruin?

American workers have lost $6 trillion of housing wealth and another $8 trillion in stock wealth.

This is our money!!! Are you going to have the nerve to stand against a fellow citizen and vote for any one of these people to be re-elected?

When you have lost your job, and your home and you are paying $20. for a loaf of bread, you will then know why.

Will it be at this point that you stand up and say 'Enough is Enough'?

Daily Times Overbilling Its Subscribers

"Hi Joe,
I haven't seen any information on this in your blog but I sometimes miss a day or two. I am a subscriber to the Daily Times (my husband doesn't want to get rid of it yet) and they automatically charge our credit card every month for the bill. In December and then again in January they have charged us twice for the subscription. After I called them in December they had said it was a software glitch and they would take care of it. They also stated that they had double charged all their customers that get auto billed onto their credit cards.

It happened again in January and when I called this time the lady acted like she didn't know anything about it happening the month before so I explained to her what the other cust rep had told me in Dec. She said she would take care of this for me but I just thought you should mention this so that others that perhaps don't check their monthly statements or have just overlooked it can make sure they get credited that money back.

Thank you for your time and thank you for all the information you provide.

Stop Everything...The Mayor of Pocomoke City has Broken His Silence and Updated His Blog!!!

Mayor McDermott has broken his silence to the citizens of Pocomoke City who get their news from the internet and has updated his blog!

On February 2,nd you will never believe what he posted ....

A Police Report by Gum! Can you believe it?

Calling it his 'weekly update' (yet the last post was September 4th) , he told of the home invasion in Butlers Village last week and mentiond a theft from a car, and someone passing counterfiet $5.00 bills.

Mayor McDermott also reported that police have served 9 abandoned vehicle violations with 23 determined to be Maryland residents with VA tags.

According to earlier inquiry into this situation Mayor McDermott stated that it was not the 'town police departments' job to look for 'out of state' tags within our city, but the job of the State Police if they cared.

I wonder if Boss Hogg got a grant from the State to round up these criminals, or if the Pocomoke PD just didn't have anything else to do, or it was the job all along and just now is something being done about it ?

We don't know, we haven't recieved a police report in ages.

Seeins that he's the Mayor and all, I would hope that he gets a report on what's going on in the city from the Police Department! But I guess emailing me the portion of the report that I have repeatedly asked for must be beyond them.

While the Mayor has not been able to take the heat in the Tattler's kitchen the Citizens of Pocomoke deserve to know what is going on in their City for which they pay the salaries of each and everyone of the these people who continually ignore us unless they want to run for office.

I am the only one that has asked for these reports every week and we shouldn't have to wait until the Mayor decides he is going to become a blogger again to recieve them!

I was told by friends that I personally convinced into voting for him, that they have received a letter from the Mayor announcing his candidacy as Delegate and asking them for their financial support to get to Annapolis.

They said the letter stated that crime was low, taxes were low, and business was good, and that he supported upon government.

Wow, that is exactly what he told Billy and I he was gonna do when he stood in our living room and we gave him his very first campaign contribution.

Ronald Gregory Sample Jr., Assault Case Dropped

While Chief Webster and the Salisbury Police Department's #1 suspect of Audrey Jurewicz, murdered and found dead in the City several months ago has been set free.

Mind you, I personally never believed this man was the true murderer but what do I know, right? I mean, I only have documents that describe a completely different suspect that has never been found. Nevertheless, I find it VERY interesting now that Capt. Mark Tyler is saying he is no longer a suspect in the murder of Audrey Jurewicz! I also became vocal several months ago as I felt the description of the actual #1 suspect, the vehicle he drove and specific details should have been immediately exposed as time was of the essence and the SPD refused to get that information out. Mind you, it is their business and they are the professionals. However, what truly ticks me off is how bad it looks on the States Attorneys Office every time cases like this fall through. The Citizens are regularly misinformed and the Mayor loves to toss blame on Davis Ruark and his Staff, yet the Police Chief has publicly stated just how young his Officers are.

Nevertheless, Ron Smith was arrested on multiple assault charges on local prostitutes, gun possession, reckless endangerment and held at the Detention Center on a $50,000.00 Bond. Their key witness failed to appear in Court so the charges were dropped and he was set free.

It's time to bring in a new Police Chief. Clearly Chief Webster cannot provide the proper safety for the Citizens of Salisbury and it should be known that many of the Veteran Officers are leaving the Department because they've simply had enough.

Mind you Folks, this is just my personal opinion but the difference between Sheriff Mike Lewis and Chief Webster is truly night and day. Webster refuses to cooperate with the Sheriff's Department, making the business of taking criminals off the streets more life threatening on ALL Officers within the City and Wicomico County.

I personally think CRIME should be the BIGGEST issue in this election and ONE of the biggest questions each Mayoral Candidate should be asked is,. will you replace the Chief of the Salisbury Police Department. Too many home invasions! Too many car jackings! Too many robberies! Too many ATM issues! The big question "I" feel everyone should ask themselves is, do YOU believe this would still be the case if Sheriff Mike Lewis was running the Salisbury Police Department??????

Vocabulary Update

UNSAVORY LANGUAGE

Years ago when I sometimes used unsavory language, I often used the expression "Bull ****." As I grew up a bit and discovered it was not necessary to use such crude language, that expression became "BS."

Q. What did I really mean when I used those expressions?
A. I meant that something was ridiculous, or idiotic or a half truth or just stupid. It covered any number or negative formats. The dictionary defines it as: nonsense; especially : foolish insolent talk...

I have decided that I no longer will use either of those expressions in the future. When I have a need to express such feelings, I will use the word "Pelosi."

Let me use it in a sentence. "That's just a bunch of Pelosi."
I encourage you to do the same. It is such a good word. It really packs a lot of punch We are no longer being vulgar. But it clearly expresses our feelings. If enough of us use it, perhaps the word could be entered into the dictionary. What an excellent legacy for the Speaker of the House!

PASS IT ON TO AT LEAST 10,000,000 PEOPLE. That's no problem here at Salisbury News. It will be delivered to at least that in one day. Get the hint fella's?

Black History Month? White History Month?

Black History Month
A month devoted to African-Americans. A month that is well deserved. Some White people get angry because Blacks get a month all about them. Well, they really shouldn't because White people get all the rest of the year. In school, we learn about history. They should just rename is White history, because that is all we learn about. White people. I think that if someone is mad that Blacks get ONE month, they are very selfish. Black History Month is just the price that Whites have to pay for their ancestors being racist! (Urban Dictionary)

White History Month
Occurs during the month of April. This is White History Month, not Anti-Black History Month. Said event promotes equality, not discrimination. And no, White History Month is NOT 11 months out of the year, American history is. The fact that 98% of this country's history was, founded, laid out and written by white US citizens DOES NOT make it "White History". Our history just happens to be laid out mostly by white, landowning males. That's just the way it is. Do our textbooks say George Washington was "the first white president of the United States"? No. Just because there are not many blacks in this country's long history, doesn't make it "White History". It just means blacks didn't step up to the plate until later. Like I said, it's not like we're there to stop them from making history with a "Whites Only" policy. If Black people get a history, then so should the White people. (Urban Dictionary)
_____________________________________________________________________

The month of February is Black History Month. America is racist. America is hypocritical. We want America to see NO COLOR, yet we still celebrate black people every February.

Let the comments begin.

Redneck Humor

A redneck family from the hills was visiting the city and they were in a mall for the first time in their lives. The father and son were strolling around while the wife shopped. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again.

The boy asked, "Paw, What's 'at?" The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, "Son, I dunno. I ain't never seen anything like that in my entire life, I ain't got no idea'r what it is." While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady walked up to the moving walls and pressed a button.

The walls opened and the lady walked between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small circular numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued to watch until it reached the last number and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order. Then the walls opened up again and a gorgeous, voluptuous 24-year-old blonde woman stepped out. The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son,

"Boy, go git yer Momma...."

For the past three years, I've been a "regular" at City Council meetings, speaking up about things that matter to folks like us in District 1. I helped start the President Streets Neighborhood Association and serve as its treasurer.

I'm just a resident like you who knows what it means to work for a living, struggle against hard times, and want something better for our children's future. Our district has people of many colors and backgrounds. I think that's one of its strengths.

Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of a day when his children would "not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character".

In the coming weeks. I hope you'll come to know the content of my character as someone who will work every day as your council member to see a better District One for all of us.

Unfortunately, they're only good for one period and have no second string.....

Lower Shore Young Republicans To Host Food Drive

The Lower Shore Young Republicans will be holding a food drive on Saturday, February 7th. From 10am-2pm, donations will be accepted at three local grocery stores. The three locations are: Food Lion on Snow Hill Road, Food Lion on Nanticoke Road and Giant, located on South Salisbury Boulevard. One hundred percent of the food donated will be directly given to the Christian Shelter, located in Salisbury, MD.

“With the nature of the economy, it is even more critical now for local organizations to give back to the economy,” said Mark Biehl, President of the Lower Shore Young Republicans. The Young Republicans are a local group founded on promoting conservative ideals throughout the area. However, giving back to the community is a large part of their priorities. “Politics is about the community, not the politicians,” commented Biehl.

This organization is for anyone who shares conservative values with individuals between 18 and 40. If interested in joining, or for more information, please contact the club via e-mail at lowershoreyoungrepublicans@gmail.com.

Hebron Cancels Controversial Portion Of Meeting

I don't know about any of you but I have personally traveled to almost every major City in America and obviously many surrounding Towns but never once have I ever felt like an outcast as I do whenever I go to Hebron. You would think the Town Officials were the old KKK and I was a Black Man walking through their doors during a KKK Meeting.

All heads popped up just as soon as I walked in the door and the lengthy stare reminded me of my Ex-Wife and her Mother, so I'm used to it and it doesn't bother me one bit. Nevertheless, these people don't want outsiders interfering into their business, unless you're a Developer, of course.

Once I learned they were cancelling the portion of the meeting I came to hear, (does it surprise you they did so after I walked in the door) I left and one woman from the Council walked out the side door with no coat on and stared me down as if she was taking a tag number.

Let me make myself LOUD and CLEAR to the Hebron Town Officials. You have NO CLUE who you're messing with and one thing I can assure you of is, should I ever come into that Town and made to feel like a Black Man at a KKK Meeting ever again, it's going to hit the fan like you have never experienced in your entire lifetime and I will be the thorn in your rear end no Doctor can ever remove. Don't believe me, just ask Mayor Barrie Tilghman of Salisbury!

We'll see you again in two weeks.

Princess Anne Dogs Killed Yesterday

"Our dogs were killed by Somerset County yesterday."

I would appear that this Dog Catcher had a bone to pick with this Family and rather than quarantining the animals, they killed them instead. No time for a lawyer, no time for a Judge, what are you going to do, right?

To the Family who lost their Dogs, we're sorry for your losses. I will make contact with the proper authorities at this point and I will personally dig into this and get to the bottom of it. Mind you, there's a good chance there's a long history behind these dogs and the law. However, it's only fair I check out both sides, because I will NOT be a happy camper if this was treated underhandedly.

GO HERE to see our story from yesterday on this issue.
