Can America Afford Nancy Pelosi or Barney Frank ...

... or Frank Kratovil?

Whether it's the price at the pump, the mortgage crisis, or our troops in the field, is this your vision for America?  Do we want to send Nancy Pelosi one more ally?

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- While the global credit crunch is clearly beginning to bite hard, there are some positives to the financial turmoil that it has wrought.

1. The U.S. election is no longer leading the news.

2. Whatever your brother-in-law's brilliant financial move was last year probably looks pretty boneheaded now.

3. Wall Street bigwigs are exposed as blubbering hypocrites in congressional hearings.

4. You probably didn't do anything as embarrassing as the head of Iceland's central bank, who issued a statement announcing a 4 billion euro loan from Russia when Moscow hadn't actually agreed to it.

5. The world will no longer have to spend trillions of dollars to cut carbon emissions since the crisis will do more to reduce greenhouse gases than all the government initiatives, wind farms and cap-and-trade schemes combined.

6. Capitol Hill bigwigs are exposed as blubbering hypocrites in congressional press conferences.

7. You probably didn't do anything as embarrassing as Germany's KfW Bankengrouppe, which transferred 300 million euros to Lehman Bros. just before the investment bank filed for bankruptcy.

8. Instead of foreign aid programs or the United Nations, your tax dollars will now go to fund assistance where it's really needed -- Wall Street.

9. Gasoline's back down to merely extortionate prices from obscenely extortionate prices.

10. It's as good a distraction as any from the Chicago Cubs' abject playoff failure.

Just . . . Why?

Why would they send a $.01 check to me, when it costs $.42 to send it. . . not to mention the ink to print everything out, the time involved to write out the memo & address the envelope?
This stupidity is the very reason why I switched banks to a local bank that I can trust.
Just . . . Why?

Frank Kratovil - A View into the Future

Would you like a glimpse into the future?  What IF Frank Kratovil actually is elected to Congress?  A good indicator is to look at a "moderate", "independent" Democrat who was elected in 2006 - Rep. Steve Kagan (D-WI).

Kagan told the people of his district a lot of same things that Frank
Kratovil is telling us now.  What has he become?  Just another stooge
of the liberal Democrat leadership

I'm An American And I'm Scared To Death

"Joe,

I am finally scared. Your forum speaks to many, and I don't care if you post this or not. I am venting at this point. I would like to remain nameless if you do post this, as I am rambling on and haven't sat down to check, and recheck anything I've written. However, I am truly am beside myself with all the negativity, scare tactics of the media, and down right stupidity of our government and the sheep that follow.

While we as Americans have always been taught that it is our god given right to be free, I never remember the history lesson that said it came by a handout.
I come from the "X" generation of spoiled brats that felt entitled to everything from cable tv, to fancy first cars, nintendo, pagers, etc! But, my parents and especially my grandfather taught me that I had to EARN these things and they called them privileges. My friends may have felt entitled to a car a 16, but I had to earn my first car via straight A's and a savings account to pay for the insurance.
I did what I was supposed to do and went to school, worked hard, held a job throughout high school and played sports too. I started working when I was 14 because it was the recession of 1990 and my mother said things were going to be tight. I figured I could pitch in.

I do not understand why it is okay for anyone to sit on their ass and collect money from my paycheck for benefits they have not once in their lives not tried to earn!
I understand that the programs that have been in place (like welfare) have a purpose, but they also have loopholes that are NOT monitored, and are NOT scrutinized. So where the concept had a wonderful purpose, the program has been taken advantage of and is now in need of serious reform.

Now there is talk of healthcare for all? So, more loopholes and more programs that take more money out of my check that I work hard for? What happened to EARNING PRIVILEDGES?

The amish have it figured out! They pull together, save all their money and when a fellow man is in need of medical care they pool their resources, pay cash and get a discount.

Have you ever noticed that if you didn't have insurance your bill is significantly less than what is billed to the insurance company?

For the first time in my life I am scared to death that I won't be able to pay my own way because of all the people that have their hand out in the form of entitlement! Who in the hell do they think they are?! And why is it our government's job to support them unconditionally!? I am not cold hearted! I am not referring to the family that fell on hard times and is working to pull themselves out. I am ONLY referring to all the ones working the system, waiting diligently for the first of the month and not doing a damn thing about their situation because they are entitled! There are songs about it people! More government to me simply means more loopholes, and more money out of my paycheck. Socialism just doesn't work. People need to work for their PRIVILEDGES!

Hard work, blood sweat and tears is what made this country. Why is their such a push for such instant gratification? You want what I have? Work for it! I want what the next guy has? Well damn it, I have to work harder to get there!
I am naive. Yet I truly believe that people are inherently hard working and good natured. It is the few by far that have ruined it for the masses and it is time these few, that are growing exponentially are stopped.

I paid attention in school, especially history. I learned from a wonderful teacher that if we do not learn and understand our past we are doomed to repeat it. He taught us that this could apply to a simple life lesson ie: a hot stove, or the fall of a great nation ie: Rome. He also said that whenever you really want to get to the root of the issue in politics, follow the money and you will most likely find the answer.

So, who is it that is really getting the benefits of all this proposed and current government spending? When is there finally going to be a government that works for the people and not for themselves? When do we as a nation put our foot down and stop asking the government to fix it and start fixing it for ourselves? When do we put pride back into our daily lives and stop the insanity?"

Should Wicomico County Subsidize Crown Sports Center?

As reported in this morning's Daily Times, the Crown Sports Center is asking Wicomico County for some relief from the Amusements and Admissions tax.  Is this a valid request, or just another stab at corporate welfare?

You would probably guess from the title and first paragraph that I'm opposed to this proposal.  You would be wrong.  At this point, I'm pretty agnostic about the whole thing.

Why?

Let's examine a few questions:
  • Is this a corporate subsidy?
  • Is this corporate welfare?
  • Is it bad public policy?
  • Is it fair?

Where Does Council Woman Shanie Shields Live Right Now

This was a big question asked yesterday but quite frankly it's been a ongoing question for several months now, perhaps even a year. The trouble Shanie Shields has been experiencing has been going on for about a year or so now.

My sources tell me that Shanie Shields has allegedly been living, (are you ready) in Princess Anne. Like it or not, Shanie better get used to vehicles following her daily because people want to know. If she has in fact been living in Princess Anne, she has been breaking every rule while being completely aware of what she's been doing and the entire time she's been living there, (should this be true) none of her votes count on Council. NONE!

I have people in Princess Anne asking around and keeping an eye out for her vehicle. If someone out there actually knows different, wants to use their NAME and NOT be anonymous, I'll be happy to post their comment. Let's all get to the bottom of this and I believe the Taxpayers deserve a direct answer and the truth as to where she actually lives.

Soldiers Return From Iraq

"Hi Joe,

My name is Lynn Bragg. I am the lead volunteer for the family readiness group of the 115th MP Battalion here in Salisbury. We had a reunion brief today and one of the family members indicated that you had a contingent present when the Marine flew home a few months ago. I am asking for your assistance in getting the word out to let people know that we have about 15 soldiers arriving home the best we know right now as Saturday. As is usual, we have been given a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I am betting on Saturday and we want to have a bang up showing for our troops. Can you help me with this? I will keep you advised as we get closer to the time and have a clearer knowledge of exactly when. They will be bussed into Salisbury from Ft. Dix.

Thank you for any help that you can be,
Lynn"

Folks, I ask that you keep an eye as to the updates and times for this very special event. I have made We Care Wicomico aware of this special event and hope many of you can be there to welcome these hero's home.

Absentee Ballots

"Joe,

I'm not sure how all this Blogger stuff works. I was thinking about writing an editorial. Anyway to the point.

I have heard a lot the past couple days about Ohio and Florida with their hideous and outlandish efforts of getting people registered to vote and then on top of that to place an absentee ballot on the spot.

I understand that all people should have the right to vote, even if they happen to be homeless (However unlikely). The main thought here is if a person is to lazy to take them selves down to the post office or the MVA or any other government agency to register to vote. Then they likely won't vote anyway. Personally I can't understand not being registered to vote nor do I understand the philosophy of not voting at all.

When I was in the Navy I would always request an absentee ballot. I am not sure how the system is supposed to work, but I am quite sure that it did not work at all in my situation. Neither time did I request a ballot did I ever get anything back from the government or from Maryland (my state of residency at the time). I am sure that by the time the government agency gets the ballot and decides to do something with it the election is already over. (my opinion).

The point to all this is, if there ever was an effort to get any group of people registered to vote it should be the servicemen and women of our Armed Forces. My own experiences lead me to believe that there is a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done to bring that segment of the voting population up to par. Now I will account for the fact that was more than 15 years ago and yes times may have indeed changed. Still the fact remains if there is a group that should be "catered" to for voting registration it should be our Armed Forces.

Regards,
Clifford Alpert"

Question of the Day, Wed 10/8

Remind You Of Any Place You Know?

"Joe,

Thought I would share this email with you. I have friends close to St louis and I got this email from Buzz about the same time you posted on the blog about ACORN. Christi can't even put a bumpersticker on her vehicle because she volunteers at the USO at the airport."

"About a month ago O'Bama opened up a office in St. Peters, Missouri. It
appears that his organization "ACORN" is up to its normal voter fraud
and intimidation techniques. Since opening up petty crime has increased
significantly in our area. A week ago Chris put up a McCain Palin sign.
I mentioned that around the St. Louis airport it would not be safe to
have a McCain bumper sticker as they would break out your windows,
lights, and key your car, and the local police unions would not do a
thing. Well the first night, SOMEONE knocked over our bird bath and
threw the concrete top thought the sign. We straightened things up. Last
night SOMEONE destroyed our Mail Box and heavy cedar post. In short
virtually very McCain Palin sign has been knocked down or destroyed
since O'Bama's "ACORN" operated office opened, and people do feel very
threatened by these actions. These "SOME ONE" actions did not occur in
our area prior to the opening up the O'Bama "CHANGE" office. It has
brought change to what used to be a safe neighborhood. The police seem
sympathetic, but unable to act unless they catch them in the act.

Speaks well for the people who represent a man who could be elected US
President in a month. As community organizer O'Bama got ACORN criminals
out of jail for just these actions and other forms of voter fraud. Do
the people of the US understand the peril they faced or are they just
getting to used to the welfare trough. Your liberty and welfare may very
well be at risk."

Today Is International Walk To School Day

GO HERE to see their official Website. Fortunately for our household, our Grandson goes to Year Round School and is off for three weeks. I'll take him for a walk to the end of the driveway to get the Daily Times instead. Did YOU walk your child to School today? Did you even know this was going on?
