Gunshots In Hammond St Area

Don't know any details, but there was just a shooting on Pyle St. between Hammond and Jefferson.  I heard 8-12 shots, then a bunch of kids ran by my house and said someone was just shot.  I live about 5 houses away down Hammond St.  Police were there almost immediately so I don't know if they were the ones doing the shooting or what.  If you can get some details posted when you find something out, it might help my wife sleep tonight.

Detectives Investigating The Death Of Man After Taser Deployment

Location:  Center median of the roadway in the 1000 block of S. Market Street, Wilmington, DE
Date of Occurrence:   Thursday, November 4, 2010, 12:00 a.m.
Victim:   40 year old Wilmington, DE man

Resume:   The Delaware State Police are investigating the death of a 40 year old Wilmington man after a struggle with Troopers late last night in Wilmington.
The incident occurred just after midnight on Thursday, November 04, 2010, as State Troopers from Delaware State Police Troop 2 were dispatched to the 1000 block of S. Market Street, Wilmington, DE in reference to the report of two people fighting in the roadway. The first trooper arrived to find a male and a female in the middle of S. Market Street. It appeared that the two subjects were fighting. As the trooper attempted to escort the two subjects out of the roadway, the male suspect refused to comply. The male subject then became agitated and combative and actively resisted arrest. A struggle then ensued between the trooper and the male subject. The trooper then deployed his divisionally issued taser; however the trooper was unable to successfully take the suspect into custody. At this point, two additional troopers arrived at the scene and attempted to assist in taking the subject into custody. The subject continued to actively resist arrest. It was at this time that a 15 year veteran of the state police assigned to Troop 2 then deployed his divisionally issued taser. The subject then discontinued resisting arrest and was placed in handcuffs. It was at this point that the troopers realized that he had gone into cardiac arrest and immediately began administering CPR and additional life saving efforts until paramedics arrived. The male subject was then transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:13 a.m. His body was turned over to the Delaware State Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed today to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

The 15 year veteran of the state police was not injured. A three year veteran trooper sustained a minor injury to his knee and refused treatment. The third trooper, a 6 year veteran, who had responded to the incident, was transported from the scene to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated and released with a hand injury. All three Troopers involved in this incident have been placed on administrative leave, as per department policy, pending the outcome of this investigation by the State Police and the Attorney General’s Office.

Dead, Dying Coral Found Near BP Spill Called 'Smoking Gun'

'We have never seen anything like this,' chief researcher says

Scientists returning from an expedition off the Gulf Coast said Friday they found dead and dying deepwater coral near the BP oil spill site that was covered in a brown substance.

"The compelling evidence that we collected constitutes a smoking gun" that the substance is tied to the BP spill, the chief researcher on the cruise, Penn State biologist Charles Fisher, said in a statement Friday.

"We have never seen anything like this," he added. "The visual data for recent and ongoing death are crystal clear and consistent over at least 30 colonies; the site is close to the Deepwater Horizon; the research site is at the right depth and direction to have been impacted by a deep-water plume, based on NOAA models and empirical data; and the impact was detected only a few months after the spill was contained."

"These kinds of coral are normally beautiful, brightly colored," Fisher said. "What you saw was a field of brown corals with exposed skeleton — white, brittle stars tightly wound around the skeleton, not waving their arms like they usually do."

Fruitland Sign Ordinance Not Passed??

Joe-

If Andy Mitchell did say that the ordinance had not passed or even had the first reading yet, I'd say he is either suffering from dementia or lying.

Here is a clip from the
City Council Minutes from the Sept. 14, 2010 meeting:

"Public Hearing Ordinance No. 248 – Sign Ordinance ‐ 7:40 p.m.
At 7:40 p.m. President Olinde convened a Public Hearing to discuss Ordinance No. 248, which was given First
Reading at the August 10, 2010 Council Meeting, and which repeals Ordinance No. 164 and enacts in its stead an
ordinance providing for a new annual license fee scheme for advertising signs within the City, including signs which
are mobile, and/or temporarily providing for limitation of placement of said signs, and providing penalties for
violation of the ordinance as municipal infractions.

"After City Solicitor Mitchell presented Ordinance No. 248 for Second Reading, President Olinde opened the floor for
public comment; after discussion, President Olinde closed the Public Hearing and called for the motion.

"On a motion by Councilor Carey that was seconded by Councilor Tull and approved by a four to zero vote in favor
becoming effective September 14, 2010, Ordinance No. 248 was adopted with modifications to Section I,
Paragraph 3 and Section IV as articulated by Solicitor Mitchell. "

I don't know how much plainer that could be. Maybe , being a mere mortal, I just don't understand the intricate workings of the law and I need an attorney to explain things to me, but I CAN read.

What do you think?

Don't Believe What You Read On Salisbury News

Mr. Mitchell started off last nights meeting with that statement. Mr. Mitchell, do tell the residents of Fruitland how we lied in any way, shape or form. In fact, didn't we provide documents to PROVE everything we were saying was true, of course we did.

You better do a whole lot better than making such a statement when I'm not in the room because you had plenty of opportunity to challenge me last night when I did come through the door. But like a coward, you did not.

You remind me of your Brother, or is it the other way around. It doesn't matter.

STATEMENT FROM RNC CHAIRMAN MICHAEL STEELE ON THE OCTOBER UNEMPLOYMENT NUMBERS

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele released the following statement today:

“This week, the American people went to the polls and delivered a clear message to Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress that near 10 percent unemployment and unsustainable debt is unacceptable.  Now facing 9.6% percent unemployment and continued economic uncertainty, it is time for this Administration to start working with Republicans to implement commonsense policies that will free small businesses from burdensome regulation, and help create jobs in the private sector. Americans are tired of the broken promises, shallow finger pointing, and shameless hypocrisy that they’ve seen from the Obama White House. For the last two years, the Republican Party listened to the American people and campaigned on principles of fiscal discipline, low taxes, and limited government.  Tuesday’s election was a referendum on the failed policies of the Obama Administration and a confirmation that America needs to head in a different direction.”

Is The Old Handshake Worthy Of Your Trust Any More?

As mentioned last night, the majority of business people came to the City Council Meeting in Fruitland to express their frustration towards the new sign ordinance that went into effect prematurely.

Here's what boggles the mind the most. Last night the City Attorney, (Mr. Mitchell) stated that this hasn't even been to the "first reading" yet they were already imposing the new law that hasn't even been been passed. Or at least, that's what they were saying, anyway.

The three new Council Members were just in shock over the newly proposed legislation and stated they wanted nothing to do with it. They clearly exposed signs of disbelief and flat out stated they wouldn't support it. The two standing/remaining Council Members stated they wanted to dig into it some more, one claiming she wasn't there for the "final reading" of the bill and the other stated he's on the fence.

Mind you, that Council member certainly cannot claim they didn't know what was being proposed and just because they weren't there for the final reading doesn't mean they didn't know what was up. This is what kept most of the business people on edge last night, they're not stupid people.

It wasn't until Salisbury News exposed the new legislation that the entire Council went into CYA mode. Many business people are still concerned that this bill may still pass but one thing I can assure all of you is, I am 99.9% confident it will not see the light of day. The new Council Members were sincere last night and quite frankly, they are the majority right now and it will not pass.

The word spread very quickly on the Eastern Shore about this matter as I spoke with other municipal leaders last evening. They too seemed to be against such a proposal for their City's but of course this was after the fact. The main reason why I believe so many were informed was because they had their ears to the ground hoping, (if it had passed) they too could consider proposing such fees to their Towns as well.

Finally, every one needs to keep a close eye on Mr. Gary Comegys, (President of the MML, Maryland Municipal League) and his proposed legislation to allow every City/Town in the State to start proposing fees/taxes on phones, energy bills and all sorts of communist tactics. The MML needs to be stopped and as I mentioned last night, the Fruitland City Council, (on the record) stated to me directly that the ONLY interest they had in Mr. Comegys was the return of the Maryland State highway User Fund being returned to each municipality, where it belongs. Other than they, they do NOT support Mr. Comegys proposal and the Town Manager stated on the record that they have already informed the MML they will not support that legislation.
We'll keep you posted.

In the end, business people and Council Members shook hands as the alleged "misunderstanding" should be put to rest in the very near future.

UPDATE: It turns out I walked into this meeting soon after the Council had proposed repealing the new law/legislation. I was unaware, (based on the two council members still on the council statements) this had taken place. Go Figure!

TOWN OF HEBRON HAS DISMISSED ITS APPEAL ON WALLER LANDING; TOWN ALSO HAS APPEALED THE MDE PENALTIES ASSESSED AGAINST

Hebron has officially dismissed the appeal it filed in the Court of Special Appeals from the ruling of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County regarding approval of the mega-development, Waller Landing.
Seven months ago, Hebron did as the Circuit Court Judge stated and held a re-do of its public hearing on Waller Landing--Hebron hadn't even done the basics of recording the first hearing!!!!!
Hebron is truly an "Alice in Wonderland" world!
Stranger still is the fact that in all those months since Hebron got its act together and held a re-hearing, the Commissioners have failed to even vote on the matter.    Interestingly, the Waller developer has not kept its account current..............
Hebron also has appealed the MDE penalties regarding its WWTP.  The decision states the fix for the problem was a component part, the cost of which was ONLY $50.00.  Seems Hebron can't win issues on the first go-round and is big on appealing.  That should be not so 'appealing' to Hebron taxpayers--are you paying attention to how your tax dollars are being spent and who's spending them?  Wake up.

Parents/Guardians Have Until Nov. 10 To Fill Out And Return Approved Visitor Form For American Education Week

Schools will welcome many parents, grandparents and other guests during this year's celebration of American Education Week, Nov. 15-19. This annual spotlight on public education has as its theme "Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility."

This week, every student received a letter about American Education Week and an Approved Visitor Form to bring home outlining new visitor procedures for American Education Week. By Nov. 10, the student’s family must fill out and return to the school office the Approved Visitor Form listing the people who will be allowed to visit the student at school. Space is provided to list approved visitors by name and relationship to student.

For the safety of all students and staff, no one who is not identified in advance as an approved visitor will be allowed to visit classrooms. Visitors may only visit the classroom of the child for whom they are an approved visitor. All visitors must be age 21 or older and must present photo identification when checking in at the school, either in the main office or at a special table. Unless a school has announced that it will have babysitting services available during American Education Week, younger siblings should not be brought for the visit.

Other procedures to ensure a safe and smooth American Education Week include:

-Visiting at the day/time designated for your student’s grade level, if possible. Schools often schedule different days for different grade levels to ensure adequate parking and to minimize classroom and hallway congestion.
-Keeping cell phones on vibrate and not using them during the classroom visit.
-Leaving food and drink in the car.
-Removing hats and outside garments before entering the classroom.
-Checking out at the conclusion of the visit.

Schools, staff and students look forward to seeing many visitors in the classroom for American Education Week Nov. 15-19. For more information about American Education Week, please check with your student's school, and be sure to return the Approved Visitors Form by Nov. 10.

Please Be Prepared To Help This Family

Hey Joe -

I have a family friend with 4 kids and daughter with 2 kids that was burnt out of their rental home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia without insurance and lost everything last week.  I just learned this yesterday.  At the time the daughter was working away from here and did not lose anything in the fire so she has no current needs.

All total they have a 2, 7, twin 9, 13 and 16 y/o all boys that need everything from shoes to caps.  Mom and Dad need clothes also, 36-30 or thereabouts for the man with an XL shirt and 9-11 size shoes.  For Mom large pants and blouses with approx. 6.5 size shoes.  Right now all that they have is a kitchen table and chairs, dishes and a microwave.

Currently they are sleeping on the floor with few covers to keep them warm as of recent nights.  Bedding, sheets, dressers, nightstands, lamps, linens, blankets, bookbags, clothing, jackets, pantry items. . . the list goes on an on, we all know what we use on a daily basis to make our lives move.  I will say that they are moving into a 3 bedroom mobile home for now so beds, a couch or 2 and/or loveseat, a recliner and even a small entertainment center/TV stand should suffice.

They are not folks that want you to dig into your pockets but would rather have that jacket junior doesn't wear, shoes that mama no longer fits into or the bunk beds in the attic.  Likewise, the gentleman is a contractor and lost most of his tools of the trade from rakes and shovels, to power tools, you name it.  The wife barely escaped and has spent a couple nights in the hospital due to smoke inhalation.

We need to help these folks Joe!  They are hard workers and need a boost.  I don't quite know how to facilitate the logistics of this as I have never done anything like this before but I have an enclosed truck if there is some way we could accumulate donations in order for me to deliver them.

Editors Notes: We are currently working with all parties to get a drop off location and contact numbers. We should have things put together some time this evening and we need your help. You're welcome to contact me in the mean time at alberobutzo@wmconnect.com if you can help in any way. Many of the people involved are Farmers who are out in the fields during the day, so it may take some time to get back to you with answers. Thank You!

Toyota profit quadruples to $1.2B despite recalls

Toyota's second quarter profit more than quadrupled despite lingering worries about the safety of its cars after massive recalls that are still dogging its sales in the U.S.

Toyota reported July-September profit of 98.7 billion yen ($1.2 billion) on Friday, up dramatically from 21.8 billion yen profit a year earlier but lower than analysts expected. Quarterly sales rose 5.8 percent to 4.807 trillion yen ($59.5 billion).

Toyota Motor Corp. is the only major automaker whose U.S. sales have been sluggish despite a recent onslaught of incentives that have boosted other automakers' results — underlining how its once sterling image continues to be tarnished in that crucial market.

Use Of Food Stamps Up 17% Since Last Year

The recession may be over, but the number of Americans using food stamps continues to soar, up 17 percent over year ago levels, according to a report posted on The Wall Street Journal's website.

A stunning 42,389,619 now use food stamps, up 58.5 percent from August 2007, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data from August cited in the story.

That means nearly 14 percent of American households are still relying on government assistance to buy food as the economy continues to batter families. The total was up 1.3 percent from July.

An Oblivious President

President Obama still doesn't get it. He continues to think the American electorate is merely impatient with the economy rather than scared by his policies, that the economy must be managed by government rather than freed from bureaucratic shackles. He's wrong on all counts.

Tuesday's elections constituted the most stunning rebuke to an incumbent president in 72 years. Republicans campaigning against the Obama agenda gained at least 60 House seats, at least six Senate seats, nine governorships and a large number of state legislative chambers. Exit polls showed a desire for smaller government and repealing Obamacare. At yesterday's press conference, however, the president evaded questions about this tsunami being a strong rebuke to the substance of his leadership.

"We would be misreading the election," Mr. Obama claimed, "if we thought the American people wanted us to spend the next two years relitigating the decisions we made in the past two years." As Democratic pollster Patrick Caddell summed it up for Fox News, "He seemed absolutely tone-deaf." Clearly, the public hates Obama policies.

Democrats Agree: Obama Did Us In

Democrats are squabbling among each other in the wake of Tuesday’s disastrous election results. But there’s one thing all sides of the party can agree on: President Barack Obama is responsible for their downfall, Politico reports.

“Fundamentally, Democrats lost the middle,” says Ed Gresser, president of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council. “The party's apparent lack of interest in a long-term path away from emergency stimulus toward fiscal balance revived a pre-Clinton reputation for carefree attitudes toward public money.”

Obama Tells Left-Wing MoveOn: I Will Fight GOP

President Barack Obama may have expressed humility during his conciliatory news conference Wednesday over the shellacking he took in the midterm elections, but just hours after speaking to the nation, he made it very clear in a phone call to left-leaning activist group MoveOn that he is not willing to compromise his core beliefs.

“We always knew bringing about change in Washington wouldn’t be easy, and it might get tougher in the days ahead,” Obama told the liberal organization's supporters a day after Republicans won the House in a landslide. “The message I took away from the elections is very simple: The American people are still frustrated. They still want change; we just have to work harder to deliver the change the American people want.”

Obama said he and activist organizations like MoveOn must work harder pushing the progressive agenda “until every American sees real change in their own lives . . .

Applications For Jobless Aid Rise Sharply

The number of people seeking jobless benefits jumped sharply last week, after two straight weeks of declines.

The increase undermines hopes that unemployment claims, after falling four times in the previous five weeks, were on a sustained downward trend. That would signal layoffs were slowing and hiring was picking up. Instead, claims remain stuck at an elevated level.

The report comes a day before the Labor Department is scheduled to release the jobs figures for October. With claims dropping only modestly over the past month, economists aren't expecting much progress. They forecast that the jobs report will show employers added a net total of 60,000 jobs last month, while the unemployment rate remained 9.6 percent for the third straight month.

A gain of 60,000 jobs is far below the 200,000 jobs a month needed to keep up with population growth and to help get some of the 15 million unemployed back to work.

"Those looking for an imminent spurt of job creation are ... likely to be disappointed," said Dan Greenhaus, chief economic strategist at Miller Tabak, in a note to clients.

The Labor Department said Thursday that initial claims for unemployment aid rose by 20,000 to a seasonally adjusted 457,000 for the week ending Oct. 30.

More Than 20 Tons Of Pot Smuggled Into U.S. Through Secret Border Tunnel

Federal authorities in San Diego have made one of the largest marijuana seizures in the United States, confiscating more than 20 tons of pot that was smuggled into the country through an underground tunnel connecting warehouses on either side of California's border with Mexico, officials said Wednesday.

Mexican authorities seized more than four tons of pot from the warehouse on their side of the border.

The marijuana is worth more than $20 million if sold on the streets of San Diego, said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton. The bricks of pot were packaged for sale.

"This is obviously the work of a cartel," said Morton, who held a news conference outside the warehouse in an industrial park near the Otay Mesa truck crossing, across from Tijuana.

Officials said the lightening-speed, 12-hour operation started Tuesday night when U.S. authorities watching a warehouse under surveillance followed a tractor-trailer as it left the building.

ICE agents called in the California Highway Patrol, whose officers stopped the rig near Temecula, Calif., about 60 miles way. Authorities say they found 10 tons of marijuana inside the tractor-trailer. The driver, a U.S. citizen, and his Mexican wife were arrested and will be arraigned in San Diego on Thursday.

Authorities quickly obtained a federal search warrant to enter the warehouse, where they discovered 10 to 15 more tons of marijuana, Morton said.

They also found the opening to the tunnel, which ran the length of six football fields under the border and ended at a warehouse in Mexico, Morton said. The tunnel had lighting, ventilation and a rail system to send loads of illegal drugs into California.

The clandestine passageway was too low to stand up in and was believed to be in operation for only a brief time, Morton said.

Obama Doesn’t Rule Out Bypassing Congress To Cap Carbon Emissions

In a White House press conference Wednesday, President Barack Obama did not rule out using regulations issued by the Environmental Protection Agency to cap carbon emissions in the United States without an act of Congress.

Meanwhile, on October 25, the EPA announced new regulations to limit “greenhouse gas” emissions by heavy-duty trucks and buses.

In the last Congress, the House of Representatives passed a “cap-and-trade” bill that would have forced carbon emissions caps on U.S. industry in the interest of protecting the planet against warming. However, the Senate never voted on the bill.

During his Tuesday press conference, Obama initially conceded that Republicans had run for Congress in this election expressly opposing cap-and-trade and that therefore it would be unlikely that cap-and-trade global warming legislation could pass in the upcoming Congress.

“I think there are a lot of Republicans that ran against the energy bill that passed in the House last year,” said Obama. “And so it’s doubtful that you could get the votes to pass that through the House this year or next year or the year after.”

Later in the press conference, Obama was asked if he was “open” to using EPA regulations to limit greenhouse gas emissions in the same way as cap-and-trade legislation. While indicating he would like to work out a compromise with Republicans in Congress, Obama did not rule out using EPA regulation to limit carbon emissions and said the EPA was operating under a “court order” to treat greenhouse gasses as pollutants.

Union Drives 800 Jobs Out of Illinois

The Olin Corp. announced Wednesday that it will suspend production of centerfire ammunition at its plant in East Alton, Illinois, and re-locate the manufacturing operation to Oxford, Miss.

The move comes less than 24 hours after members of the union representing over Olin 800 workers rejected concessions that would have allowed them to keep their jobs.

"Our focus always has been on ensuring that we continue producing high-quality products for our customers in an increasingly competitive market," president and CEO Joseph D. Rupp said in a prepared statement.

"While I am disappointed that employees represented by the International Association of Machinists chose to reject a proposal that would have allowed us to remain competitive in East Alton, we look forward to expanding our existing operations in Mississippi."

Rep. Bachmann Blasts Obama's Pricey Asia Trip

Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann has blasted the White House for what she calls “over-the-top” spending on President Obama’s upcoming trip to Asia.

Obama leaves Friday on a trip that begins in India and will also take him to Indonesia, South Korea and Japan. Reports are circulating that the president and his entourage of about 3,000 officials, business people, journalists, and security personnel will spend some $200 million a day during his 4-day visit to India, which would put the tab for the entire trip well over $1 billion.

“We have never seen this sort of an entourage going with the president before,” Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann told CNN’s Anderson Cooper in an interview that aired on Wednesday.

“And I think this is an example of the massive overspending that we’ve seen, not only just in the last two years, really in the last four.”

Britain’s Daily Mail reported that the trip will involve 40 aircraft and six armored cars, including a black Cadillac with its own communications center that will transport Obama during his visit to India, with planned stops in Mumbai and New Delhi.

Some 500 American security personnel have reportedly been in India for weeks preparing for the presidential visit.

There is even a report in India that the United States will move a fleet of 34 warships, including an aircraft carrier, into position to patrol the sea lanes off the coast of Mumbai during Obama’s stay.

Commenting on the reported costs of the trip, White House spokeswoman Amy Brundage said: “Due to security concerns, we are unable to outline details associated with security procedures and costs, but it’s safe to say these numbers are wildly inflated.”

But several sources including The Telegraph in Britain are reporting that security measures in India are so extensive that all coconuts on trees near Mumbai’s Gandhi museum, one of the sites Obama will visit, are being removed.

Sen. Gregg: Federal, State Governments Facing Grecian Tragedy In A Few Years

Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., warns that the United States could end up in dire financial straits like Greece's in a few years if it doesn’t cut its deficit and debt — and quickly.

The federal government and state governments are facing massive debts moving forward. States alone are looking at unfunded pension shortfalls for police, emergency, and government workers totaling between $3 trillion and $5 trillion during the next two decades, the Economist magazine reported recently.

"This nation is on a course where if we don’t do something about it, get federal situation, the fiscal policy [under control], we’re Greece. We’re a banana republic," Gregg told CNBC.

"Our status as a nation is threatened by what we’ve got coming at us in the area of deficit and debt. And it’s only a few more years, at the most, that we have to work with here before the market says, ‘Sorry, your currency is something we cannot continue to defend.’"

What Will You Be Doing This Weekend?

Weak Employment Report Expected Friday

'Nobody is expecting rapid economic growth in the near future'

Newly-elected members of Congress will get a reminder Friday of the economic challenges they face in January: The jobs report for October is expected to show hiring weak and unemployment still high.

The outlook for 2011 isn't much better.

Economists expect the Labor Department to report that employers added just 60,000 jobs in October, fewer than the 100,000 needed to keep pace with population growth — and far fewer than the 200,000 needed to start returning the 15 million unemployed Americans to work.

As a result, the unemployment rate is expected to remain 9.6 percent for a third straight month.
The jobs report will also likely illustrate why the Federal Reserve felt it needed to announce Wednesday a plan to buy $600 billion in Treasury bonds. Those purchases are intended to lower interest rates on mortgages and other loans and help boost the economy.

Since new members of the House of Representatives and Senate won't take office until January, the burden of trying to energize the economy will fall initially on current members. They will meet in a so-called lame-duck session Nov. 15.

Clinton Addresses Presidential Aspirations

Secretary of state says U.S. 'should be' ready for female commander in chief

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has again slapped down speculation that she harbors ambitions for another presidential run.

In New Zealand on Friday, Clinton told a pair of television interviewers that she won't run for president even in the aftermath of this week's congressional midterms that saw Republicans take control of the House and make big gains in the Senate. Some have suggested that Clinton should take advantage of President Barack Obama's unpopularity to make a new bid.

The Democrats' poor showing has been widely interpreted as a referendum on Obama, raising questions about who the party may field as its candidate in 2012, when he would be expected to run for re-election, and 2016.

Story: GOP leader's top goal: Make Obama 1-term president

Clinton said she is very happy doing what she is doing as America's top diplomat and would not be the first female president of the United States.

She told one interviewer that the United States "should be" ready to have a woman as commander in chief. Yet, when asked if that could be her, she answered: "Well not me, but it will be someone."

Asked by another interviewer if she would rule out a White House run in 2016 or before, she replied: "Oh yes, yes."

Energy-Efficient Rebates Running Out In Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Time is running out if you plan to take advantage of the rebates being offered for energy-efficient appliances in Maryland.

In Maryland, you need to do so by Nov. 12.

"The funds have basically been all used up. We're prepared to honor all purchases up to Nov. 12," Ian Hines, spokesman for the Maryland Energy Administration, tells WTOP.

Hines says you need is a proof of purchase but the appliance does not have to be delivered or installed by Nov. 12. Your receipt and application have to be postmarked by then.

The rebates have been popular. In Maryland, people have applied for rebates for more than 14,000 clothes washers, 3,500 refrigerators and nearly 3,000 central air conditioners and air source heat pumps.

The rebates for selected ENERGY STAR-rated appliances are part of the federal economic stimulus package.

Woman Convicted In Bizarre Md. Home Invasion

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - A Hagerstown jury has convicted a woman of burglary, assault and reckless endangerment for breaking into her neighbor's house wearing nothing but a bridal skirt and veil on a snowy night in February.

Thirty-three-year old Melissa Wagaman testified Thursday that a combination of cold medicine and marijuana apparently made her hallucinate she was getting married and that her mother was locked in her neighbor's basement.

Wagaman broke a dining room window with her head, causing shattered glass to cut an artery in Aaron Parrott's arm.

Md.'s Highest Court To Hear Racial Profiling Case

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland's highest court is scheduled to hold a hearing on whether to uphold a lower court's ruling to force police to turn over documents relating to racial profiling allegations.

The Maryland Court of Appeals will hold the hearing in Annapolis on Friday.

In February, the state's intermediate court ordered the Maryland State Police department to turn over about 10,000 documents relating to the long-running legal battle known as the "Driving While Black" case.

The NAACP wants to inspect the documents to determine whether state police are properly investigating allegations of racial profiling by troopers. State police argue the documents are confidential personnel records.

Election Produces Little Change In State Legislature Compared To Rest Of Nation

Tuesday’s election did not alter the Maryland General Assembly in a major way, though Republicans did pick up six seats in the House of Delegates and they lost two in the Senate.

House Speaker Michael Busch and Senate President Mike Miller, the Democratic presiding officers, said they expected little change in their chambers or their leadership teams, including committee chairs.

Both Busch and Miller also expected to see no tax increases next year to balance the budget with a projected deficit – a position affirmed this week by Gov. Martin O’Malley after his re-election.
