Political Translations

It is amazing how many different ways the same thing can be said, creating totally different impressions. For example, when President Barack Obama says that defeating ISIS is going to take a long time, how is that different from saying that he is going to do very little, very slowly? It is saying the same thing in different words.

Defenders of the administration's policies may cite how many aerial sorties have been flown by American planes against ISIS. There have been thousands of these sorties, which sounds very impressive. But what is less impressive -- and more indicative -- is that, in most of those sorties, the planes have not fired a single shot or dropped a single bomb.

Why? Because the rules of engagement are so restrictive that in most circumstances there is little that the pilot is allowed to do, unless circumstances are just right, which they seldom are in any war.

Moreover, the thousands of sorties being flown are still a small fraction of the number of sorties flown in the same amount of time during the Iraq war, when American leaders were serious about getting the war won.

Politics produces lots of words that can mean very different things, if you stop and think about them. But politicians depend on the fact that many people don't bother to stop and think about them.

We often hear that various problems within the black community are "a legacy of slavery." That phrase is in widespread use among people who believe in the kinds of welfare state programs that began to dominate government policies in the 1960s.

Blaming social problems today on "a legacy of slavery" is another way of saying, "Don't blame our welfare state policies for things that got worse after those policies took over. Blame what happened in earlier centuries."

Nobody would accept that kind of cop-out, if it were expressed that way. But that is why it is expressed differently, as a "legacy of slavery."

Why We Feel So Sleepy After Thanksgiving Dinner

If you think that it's just the turkey making you sleepy after your Thanksgiving dinner, think again. You probably just ate too much.

It has long been acceptable to blame our sleepy ‘food coma' state after Thanksgiving dinner on tryptophan, an essential amino-acid needed by the body and found in turkey, the centerpiece of the Thanksgiving dinner. However Kim Sasso, a registered and licensed dietitian at Loyola University Health System, in Illinois, USA, is breaking down the myth by suggesting that it is probably one's overindulgence in turkey, not to mention potatoes, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, that is the real cause of a food coma, not just the tryptophan.

Praising Thanksgiving . . . but Not God

In 1789, America’s first president proclaimed a “day of public thanksgiving and prayer.” George Washington implored the heavens to “pardon our national and other transgressions” and urged the citizenry to practice “true religion and virtue.”

In 1863, Abraham Lincoln urged his countrymen to set aside the last Thursday of November “as a day of Thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.”

Subsequent presidents continued this civic-religious tradition. “More than three centuries ago, the Pilgrims, after a year of hardship and peril, humbly and reverently set aside a special day upon which to give thanks to God,” said John F. Kennedy in his first Thanksgiving proclamation. “They paused in their labors to give thanks for the blessings that had been bestowed upon them by Divine Providence.” Quoting the Bible, President Kennedy affirmed: “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord.”

That, ladies and gentlemen, was the old America. In the New America, we apparently know better. Our culture transformers are eagerly remaking Thanksgiving in their own image. This is especially true on the education front.

How progressives changed Thanksgiving

Much of what we know about the first Thanksgiving comes from a letter written by Edward Winslow in 1621. The letter, lost for nearly 200 years, was discovered by Boston publisher Alexander Young and later published in 1841.

The first Thanksgiving, according to the account, was primarily a day of fasting to remember and thank God.

While George Washington held a Thanksgiving as president, it was Abraham Lincoln that made it a national holiday.

Right after the battle of Gettysburg, Lincoln declared Thanksgiving an annual day of remembrance to be observed the fourth Thursday of every November. From 1863 to 1939, Thanksgiving took place on the fourth Thursday, allowing people to stop and to give thanks to God.

Hide Your Stuff, Lock Your Car: Black Friday Is Also A Pretty Big Day For Thieves

Black Friday is not only a big day for shoppers, with stores throwing open their doors early (or staying open all night since they opened on Thanksgiving) and the mad marketing blitz of discounts, sales and deals coming at you from every angle, but it’s a pretty fruitful day for thieves, as well.
Thefts on Black Friday are on average 2% higher than on any other Friday, or any day of the year, for that matter, according to analysis of theft claims by insurance company Travelers (via Fortune) over the past seven years.

You’ll want to make sure you’re extra careful with your purchases on that day as you stow your booty in your car parked in the mall parking lot: when those claims are broken down to look at off-premise thefts, which means the incidents happened away from home, Black Friday thefts are 28% higher than on any other day.

“On Black Friday, thieves are just much more focused on the opportunity than on a regular basis,” Patrick Gee, senior vice president at Travelers, told Fortune.

Obama Tries to BAN Christmas… And Boy, Did It Blow Up in His Face

As he’s more than demonstrated, it seems that the only way President Barack Obama is effective as a leader is when he’s governing in a purely tyrannical state. Which…is NOT acceptable…just like what he is trying to do NOW! Key word…trying.

Once again trying to issue orders to the American people by decree, it seems his most recent effort was to ban a major American holiday – and here’s exactly how that worked out for him.

We’ve all watched the state of Veterans Affairs hospitals across the nation significantly decline under the reign of Obama. However, it seems that Obama’s VA has most recently delivered yet another blow to the American people – mainly our veterans and staff who work inside the hospital – by trying to ban Christmas.

Hope You Had A Wonderful Thanksgiving...

Just remember Folks, it could always be worse.
In fact, I received a call today from my oldest friend on the Eastern Shore who informed me her Mother passed away early this morning. This was a very special Lady who will truly be missed.
Count your blessings as today is a bold reminder that life is so very short.

The second picture came from a friend who's Wife and Children are out of state with her Family and he is stuck at home taking care of the family pets. Mind you, he'll have time to do some hunting while they are away but that is his Thanksgiving Dinner.

Obama Demands That Americans Talk About Gun Control on Thanksgiving

Instead of talking about what you’re thankful for, or saying a prayer, or enjoying some nice family togetherness, there’s something else you should be talking about on Thanksgiving. Our Dear Leader is demanding that we all talk about gun control on Thanksgiving — because nothing goes better with turkey than gravy and constitutional infringement!

This Thanksgiving, the Obama administration wants Americans to talk about why Congress won’t pass more gun control – but not about Obama’s foreign policy failures.

During the White House press briefing, Press Secretary Josh Earnest continued to press a narrative set up by gun control activists in response to the terrorist attacks in Paris.

“As people sitting around the Thanksgiving table talking about these issues as they should and I’m sure they will all across the country, I hope that’s a question that will be raised and asked by members around the table,” Earnest said, referring to a bill supported by Democrat to ban people on the no-fly list from purchasing a gun.

Obama Makes Terrifying Announcement Right Before Thanksgiving

Obama is doubling and tripling down on regulations that will oppress Americans even more. And guess what? He did it just before Thanksgiving. He always does this just before a holiday, so people will be too busy to notice until it’s too late. This set of regulations breaks records and the bank at the same time. Over 2,000 new regulations alone are in this batch. 144 are deemed ‘significant’ as they will each cost $100 million and up. Obama had 136 of these ‘significant’ regulations last spring. He’s spending as fast as he can to drive us off the fiscal cliff and into the abyss before he leaves. They will massively raise the price on a whole slew of items that we use. Just when Americans can afford it least thanks to the prolonged economic depression that never was according to Obama.

President Obama is nothing if not predictable. Required by law to release plans for new regulations twice a year, the administration has consistently done so just before major holidays, when few are paying attention.

Thus, it was no surprise to see his fall 2015 regulatory agenda released last Friday, as many Americans focused on Thanksgiving week with family and friends.

Company Outlines Hopes For Snow Hill Marijuana Facility; State To Issue Licenses In 2016

SNOW HILL – A local businessman shared his plans to bring a medical marijuana growing, processing and distribution facility to the little town of Snow Hill during a special work session this week.

In a work session hosted by the mayor and town council Tuesday, Royal Plus founder Matt Odachowski told residents he had applied to the state for one of the 15 licenses to be awarded to grow medical marijuana and was also seeking approval to process and dispense the drug.

“We’re in an uphill battle but we wanted to share what we’re trying to do,” Odachowski said.

Odachowski said that his company, Positive Energy, had submitted its application to the state earlier this month. Though state officials were expected to make a decision at the end of January, he said that because more than 900 applications had been submitted by companies interested in either growing, processing or distributing that could be delayed. According to Odachowski, the state received 102 applications from interested growers but would only be awarding 15 licenses in that category. More than 700 applications were submitted by companies who wanted to open medical marijuana dispensaries even though there will be no more than two of those per senate district. Odachowski said 75 processing applications had been submitted but it wasn’t clear how many of those would be given permission to set up in Maryland.

Obama Misquotes Statue of Liberty During Plea for US to Take in More Syrian ‘Refugees’

President Obama holds little regard for America. From his flippant attitude towards paying respect to the flag to his infamous “coffee cup salute” of Marines, it’s evident that America is not an idea for him- just a place he keeps his stuff. His latest gaffe illustrates this fact:

President Obama misquoted the inscription on the Statue of Liberty, ever so slightly, while making a point Tuesday about America’s enduring alliance with France and his contested plan to accept Syrian refugees.

At a White House press conference with French President Francois Hollande, Mr. Obama said the statue — a gift from France to the U.S. — is a symbol of welcome to those seeking a better life in America. Then he said Lady Liberty bears an inscription of “words we know so well.”

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free,” Mr. Obama quoted the inscription as saying.

Actually, the inscription on the Statue of Liberty reads, “masses yearning to breathe free,” not “be free.”

Mr. Obama noted that France has agreed to accept 30,000 Syrian refugees, while the House has voted to delay his plan to take in 10,000 refugees.

The president said of the Statue of Liberty’s message, “That’s the spirit that makes us Americans. That’s the spirit that binds us to France.”

Thanksgiving

Washington, D.C.
October 3, 1863

By the President of the United States of America.
A Proclamation
.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theater of military conflict; while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.
Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.
By the President: Abraham Lincoln

By the Chaplain,
As you read this proclamation by one of our greatest leaders, I trust you paid close attention to the underlined segments referring to God as the supreme authority over this country and the human race, humbly acknowledged by the president himself.
I believe most people would only consider the Holiday of Christmas and Easter as a Christian or spiritual holiday, but personally, I also consider Thanksgiving as a Christian holiday as well and one that only America can celebrate. If you take the time and study the history of the first few years of the pilgrims you would find they suffered great loss of roughly half of their families and friends attempting to start a new life here in America. Thanksgiving was not to thank the Indians for helping them survive, but rather giving thanks to God creator for allowing their survival and thanking God for sending the Indians to help. Even though the Pilgrims suffered much, they never gave up or shook their fist at God blaming Him for their problems even when the food ration got to a meagerly five kernels of corn per serving, they rather chose to praise Him for the things they did have and did accomplish. Today, we can thank these ( In my book ) Spiritual giants for not giving up on God.. we can all take a lesson from their example. God never promised our lives would be easy, but if we would simply trust him, He promises, the results are well worth the struggle....look at America today......God bless our Godly Ancestors. This is also true of the promise of Heaven for those who would simply put their lives in His Hands.
From my family to yours...Happy Thanksgiving !
God Bless you All

84%, More Than 4 Out Of 5 Voters, Characterize Immigration From The Middle East As ‘Dangerous’

Survey Results: A nationwide survey of 2016 likely general election voters conducted by McLaughlin & Associates for SecureAmericaNow.org finds that more than 4 out of 5 voters, 84%, would categorize immigration from the Middle East to the United States as “Dangerous.” The plurality, 49%, said “very dangerous,” with another 35% saying “somewhat dangerous.” Only 12%, said it was “not dangerous at all,” with the remaining 4%, saying they didn’t know. These numbers are strong across the board as even Democrats (75%) and Liberals (69%) view immigration from the Middle East as dangerous.

SFD Responds to Thanksgiving Morning Blaze

Salisbury – In the early morning hours of Thanksgiving Day the Salisbury Fire Department was alerted and responded to a fire at the College Lane Apartments. All three Salisbury Fire Stations responded and found fire evident from the second and third floors of one apartment building.

SFD personnel acted quickly to extinguish the fire and evacuate residents who were in danger. Additional SFD units were requested to respond, and assistance was offered by the Fruitland, Delmar, and Hebron Fire Departments.

The fire was contained to the exterior balconies of two units, with some fire extension to the attic area of the building. Smoke damage was contained to the two units directly involved.

Ultimately all apartment units were evacuated without incident or injury to occupants or SFD personnel. Two families (7 total persons) were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. As a result of the rapid response of SFD personnel, only two of the sixteen units within the building sustained damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Office of the State Marshall. City Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance were called to assist.

SFD responded with 13 units and 32 personnel.

“A situation such as this one would obviously be a tragedy at any time—but for these families to be displaced on Thanksgiving is a truly terrible misfortune,” said Salisbury Mayor, Jake Day. “We are thankful that everyone made it out safe; we are thankful for the assistance of the Red Cross—today and anytime there is a local family experiencing crisis; and we’re thankful for our firefighters, who answer the call of duty whether it comes on a weekday, weekend, or Thanksgiving Day. With their swift action and bravery, SFD was able to contain the situation and save the residents from what certainly could have been a much, much worse outcome. I pledge our continued assistance to these families, to get them settled, and to help them have the best possible holiday season.”

Trooper Charged With DUI After Single Vehicle Crash In Cecil Co.

(ELKTON, MD) — A state trooper still on probation was charged with driving under the influence early this morning by Maryland State Police after he was involved in a single vehicle collision in Cecil County.

He is identified as Trooper Thomas C. Hobbs, 26, who is assigned to the Aviation Command as a rescue technician at the Frederick Section. Troopers issued citations to Hobbs at the hospital, charging him with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, negligent driving, and reckless driving. His police powers have been suspended and he has been suspended from duty with pay.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. today, Maryland State Police troopers from the North East Barrack responded to the report of an overturned vehicle on Rt. 279, north of Appleton Road, Elkton. The first trooper on the scene found the driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, still inside the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Hobbs, exhibited signs indicative of someone under the influence.

Emergency medical service personnel removed Hobbs from the vehicle and transported him by ambulance to Christiana Hospital. Troopers continued their investigation at the hospital and determined evidence indicated Hobbs was under the influence. He was charged accordingly.

Maryland State Police commanders were notified. The North East Barrack commander responded and suspended Hobbs’ police powers. The State Police Internal Affairs Unit was also notified and will be conducting an investigation.

Hobbs has been employed by the Maryland State Police for 17 months. All troopers remain in a probationary status until they have completed 24 months with the Department. He remains a patient at the hospital at this time.

The Swiss Impose $9,800 Fines On Burqas

A Swiss region has decided that it will place a huge fine – to the tune of $9,800 dollars – on those who wear burquas and niqabs that cover the face and head in public. I can’t wait for the fallout on this one:

Officials in the Swiss county of Ticino voted Monday to make the Muslim burqa illegal in public spaces, with fines of up to $9,800 for violations.

The local government wanted the law to also include other forms of headwear that cover the face, including masks worn by demonstrators and soccer hooligans, but the parliament voted to only ban the burqas and niqabs (face veil). This means covering your face in public is legal, as long as you don’t do it with a burqa or niqab.

Giorgio Ghiringhelli, who drew up the proposal, said the result will send a message to “Islamist fundamentalists” in the country.

“Those who want to integrate are welcome irrespective of religion,” Ghiringhelli said. “But those who rebuff our values and aim to build a parallel society based on religious laws, and want to place it over our society, are not welcome.”

This is awesome. Now if we could only get a politician with enough guts to pass something like this into law, America could be set. We could use the money from fines to help fund efforts to eradicate ISIS from America.

Montgomery County officials pen letter on admission of Syrian refugees

WASHINGTON — Officials in Montgomery County, Maryland, are weighing in on how Syrian refugees ought to be treated by state and local governments.

In a letter to the federal office of Refugee Resettlement (part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families), Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and the nine members of the Montgomery County Council have stated that the county is “a welcoming community to refugees from around the world, including those from Syria.”

The county’s letter comes after Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan stated that Syrian refugees should not be admitted to Maryland without “appropriate assurances” that they pose no threat. Hogan’s statement appears on his Facebook page.

5 Signs You May Be On A Compulsive Shopping Binge

You don’t need to have a “shopping addiction” to overspend during the “All I want for Christmas is more” season. Triggers encouraging you to buy more and save more are everywhere.
But if you want to hold on to some of your cash, it can help to consider if you’re about to get trapped in a compulsive shopping binge.
A big trigger for online shoppers is the “flash sale.” Customers who sign up for texts and emails from certain online retail sites complain of being tempted daily or even a few times a day by all sorts of “limited-time” specials.Maybe the “super savings” last only two hours. But the time limit — much like all those early morning Black Friday specials — create a sense of urgency and a shopper’s rush.

ALCOHOL COMPLIANCE CHECKS CONDUCTED IN SOMERSET COUNTY

(Somerset County, MD) On Wednesday, November 25, 2015, Troopers from the Maryland State Police and Officers from the Princess Anne Police Department conducted a collaborative effort and performed numerous alcohol compliance checks at retail establishments in Somerset County.

Law enforcement officers throughout Somerset County ensured that various retail establishments which hold a Somerset County Liquor License are denying sales of alcoholic beverages to persons under the age of 21 years old.

A total of 19 retail establishments were checked. The following retail establishments complied with the provisions of the law and denied the sale of alcoholic beverage to minors:
Arby’s General Store, Wenona, Maryland
Brew Thru, Crisfield, Maryland
Big Willey’s, Crisfield, Maryland
Caesar’s Pizza Palace, Princess Anne, Maryland
Eden Quick Stop, Eden, Maryland
Junior’s Stop and Shop, Princess Anne, Maryland
Kash and Karry, Princess Anne, Maryland
Lucky’s Last Chance, Chance, Maryland
Oscar’s Bar and Grill, Princess Anne, Maryland
Peaky’s Restaurant, Princess Anne, Maryland
Goose Creek, Princess Anne, Maryland
Somer’s Cove Market, Crisfield, Maryland
Spike’s Pub and Subs, Crisfield, Maryland
Dash Inn, Westover, Maryland
Goose Creek, Westover, Maryland

The following retail establishments were not in compliance with the provisions of the law and sold alcoholic beverages to a minor:
Somerset County Liquor Dispensary, Princess Anne, Maryland
Crisfield Oceanic, Crisfield, Maryland
Shore Stop, Crisfield, Maryland
King’s Creek Market, Princess Anne, Maryland

In an effort to keep our teenagers safe during this upcoming holiday season, Troopers and Officers will continue with unannounced compliance checks to ensure that alcoholic beverages stay out of the hands of minors. Historically, the holiday season sees an increase in alcohol related collisions; many of these collisions involve serious bodily injury. This collaborative effort between law enforcement partners will continue throughout the holiday season.

Support for this program is provided by the Somerset County Local Management Board, Inc.

Why a Georgia sheriff posted this ‘politically incorrect’ welcome sign

Drive through western Georgia on State Route 116 and you might notice an unusual declaration on a welcome sign: Harris County is not politically correct.

The sign, which went up earlier this week, cheerfully welcomes visitors to the county — and then warns them.

“WARNING: Harris County is politically incorrect,” the sign states. “We say: Merry Christmas, God Bless America and In God We Trust. We salute our troops and our flag. If this offends you … LEAVE!”

Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley put up the sign because, he said, over the years he has seen “the silent majority” grow even “more silent.” He thought it was time to speak up.

Only 7 percent of Maryland Democrats support Martin O'Malley for president, poll shows

Marylanders continue to have a low level of support for former Gov. Martin O'Malley's presidential ambitions, a new poll for The Baltimore Sun and the University of Baltimore shows.

Only 7 percent of Maryland Democrats say they would vote for O'Malley for president, compared with 56 percent for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and 23 percent for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

O'Malley has failed to break out of single digits anywhere in the country, including his home state. Opponents cite O'Malley's lackluster polling in the state he led for eight years to question his viability on the national stage.
