Salisbury Resident That Needs To Be Exposed For His Hatred Of Our Flag

A Viewer Writes: I walked out of the Service for Sr's at parkside HS

Seems the school feels it proper for Muslim prayers in Arabic and then in English. Followed by a Muslim from UMES to go into an Arabic prayer and explain whats its like to be a good Muslim. How the wife is for you to take care of. How she can not have friends unless its OK with her man.

This is what Parkside HS has come to? If thats the case take ALL religion out of schools and do away with prayer totally.

Talk About A Load Of Crap!

We have had people monitoring the Rt. 50 area all day today and not one person has seen a sign about the new law mandating headlight use on the Shore.

If you have seen a sign and or can take a picture of it. In the mean time law enforcement is pulling people over left and right on Rt. 50. We'd also like to know if ANY of the people getting pulled over are being ticketed for no headlight use.

Finally, anyone leaving Willards, Powellville, Pittsville and Parsonsburg heading west bound, there are NO signs whatsoever. Yesterday's press release stated they had already placed signs on the highway but no one has seen them.

Here's a recent news photo from Virginia of kindergartners at their "graduation." How ridiculous. Lots of folks would disagree with me, but I feel like you gotta save the full cap & gown treatment for high school and college. Also, point of fact, a kindergartner isn't "graduating" from anything - they're certainly not finishing their grade school education, but are merely moving onto first grade! Silly to heap the pomp and circumstance on kids this early. Give them a bona fide commencement ceremony when they've earned it, after 12 years of school and an eye toward adulthood. This is that same helicopter-parent attitude that puts a participation trophy in the hands of every kid who plays youth sports.

Suspect in quadruple killings captured in D.C., police say

Police apprehended late Thursday night the suspect in the gruesome killings of three members of a Northwest Washington family and a housekeeper, D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said.

“Just got him,” Lanier said shortly before 11:30 p.m., speaking of Daron Dylon Wint, 34, who was apprehended in Northeast Washington.

Federal marshals had been tracking Wint on Thursday night from College Park as he traveled in a white Chevrolet Cruze, a police official said. The suspect was traveling with two women, and one of them was driving. The Cruze was following a white box truck, which had two black males inside. At least one of the men was believed to be a relative of Wint’s, the official said.

REMINDER: MANDATORY HEADLIGHT USE ON ROUTE 50 STARTS TODAY!

To enhance safety for the estimated 28,000 to 36,000 motorists on US 50 between US 13 in Wicomico County and MD 90 in Worcester County, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is requiring 24-hour headlight use for all vehicles. SHA recently installed signs that will alert drivers to turn on headlights when traveling the corridor beginning Thursday, May 21.

“There have been tragic crashes along this corridor during the last decade. The mandatory headlight use will improve visibility of vehicles for drivers traveling the opposite direction,” said District Engineer Donnie Drewer. “The headlight use on MD 90 has made a difference and we expect the same positive outcome on this corridor.”

At the request of the community, SHA engineers evaluated this segment of US 50 and decided to designate it as a “safety improvement zone.” The designation meets national standards for daytime headlight use on highways.

MVA Drops Parallel Parking from Driver’s License Test

If you listen closely you can almost hear a collective sigh of relief from 16 year olds across the state.

The reason – the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration officially removed parallel parking as a required test element on the driver’s license test on a statewide basis starting today.

According to Buel Young, spokesperson for the MVA, the administration determined that completing a two-point turn and backing up are similar enough to parallel parking to eliminate the parking element from the test.

A Letter To The Editor: SALISBURY CITY COUNCIL MEETING HELD 5/18/15

JOE - Please help in a matter concerning the City Council Meeting last night. I got up and spoke on the behalf of the home owners in the city of Salisbury. I stated in my very first sentence that I did not agree that students were the problem in over occupancy, that in the 45 years I have lived in Salisbury I can remember only one incident involving students in our neighborhood, that was one loud party one time in 45 years! I do wish someone would read the transcripts from last nite or listen to them as I HAVE ASKED FOR A RETRACTION. The words were twisted I feel deliberately, the problem is city wide, over occupancy is because of the landlords who do not monitor their properties or listen to the complaints of those neighborhoods where there rentals are. The landlords are stepping on the feet of home owners in the city, who have purchased their homes, and take care of them, and want a quality of life which includes peace and respect.

Sanders offers legislation to make college free

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) unveiled legislation Tuesday that would make a college education free in the United States.

Calling the cost of higher education a “national disgrace,” the liberal presidential candidate argued his bill is critical for the nation’s economic future and squarely in line with the nation’s values.

“This disgrace has got to end,” he said of the current state of tuition costs. “This is not what America is supposed to be about.”

Under the bill, every public college and university in the country would not charge tuition. Instead, the federal government, in conjunction with the states, would foot the bill.

Facing $1 billion deficit, Arizona sharply limits welfare

PHOENIX (AP) — Facing a $1 billion budget deficit, Arizona’s Republican-led Legislature has reduced the lifetime limit for welfare recipients to the shortest window in the nation.

Low-income families on welfare will now have their benefits cut off after just 12 months.

As a result, the Arizona Department of Economic Security will drop at least 1,600 families — including more than 2,700 children — from the state’s federally funded welfare program on July 1, 2016.

The cuts of at least $4 million reflect a prevailing mood among the lawmakers in control in Arizona that welfare, Medicaid and other public assistance programs are crutches that keep the poor from getting back on their feet and achieving their potential.

Laundry Pod Poisonings Continue Despite New Packaging

Laundry pod poisoning has continued despite new packaging.

The laundry detergent industry has taken steps to curb accidental poisonings from the pods, which are designed to dissolve in water. As a result, they burst as soon as children put them in their mouths.

The original theory was that children were attracted to the pods because they’re colorful and squishy like candy. This prompted manufacturers like Procter and Gamble to make the packaging more opaque, yet statistics show this hasn’t helped much.

Schools In California to halt school suspensions for willful defiance

Mouthing off in class or failing to follow a teacher’s instructions will no longer lead to suspension in Oakland schools, a ban that will be phased in and be fully in effect just over a year from now, the school board unanimously decided Wednesday night.

Oakland Unified will become one of a handful of California school districts that restrict suspensions to more serious offenses and eliminate the punishment for willful defiance — a broad category of misbehavior that includes minor offenses such as refusing to take a hat off or ignoring teacher requests to stop texting and more severe incidents like swearing at a teacher or storming out of class. San Francisco and Los Angeles are also among those districts.

The state already bans suspension for willful defiance from kindergarten through third grade, and Oakland’s decision extends it through high school. The new policy, which goes into full effect July 1, 2016, also bans expulsions and the practice of involuntary transfers — moving students from one school to another — for willful defiance infractions.

18 Year Old Girl Dies In Jail After Police Accused Her Of Faking Medical Emergency

Lebanon, PA — Victoria ‘Tori’ Herr died in Lebanon County Correctional Facility last month after police hesitated to provide her with medical care for several days. Herr was addicted to heroin and began to go into withdrawal when she was taken into custody.

This is a situation that can be potentially deadly if not handled with care. Sadly, the corrections officers at the jail accused her of “faking,” and refused to get her medical care until it was too late.

According to the family, Tori may have been abused by the officers while she was in custody. On a petition page for Tori, a loved one mentioned the abuse, saying that,

“On arrival, she was not given a medical physical. No one addressed her addiction. She went into heroin withdrawal that turned out deadly. She had begged for help but was denied. The guards said she was faking. Before she was taken to a hospital, they abused and neglected her in horrific ways that are better left unsaid. She had laid in a coma for five days before she died on April 5th, Easter Sunday.”

The police department said in a statement that “all protocols were followed” and that there was no wrong-doing in the girl’s death.

As has already been reported, the radical Islamic terrorists supposedly established a training camp near the Mexican border that they could use to infiltrate jihadis into Texas and New Mexico.

Now, as reported by Western Journalism, the Islamic State group has proclaimed that it has “71 trained soldiers in 15 different states” in the U.S. “ready at our word to attack any target we desire.”

The terrorist group specifically mentioned five targeted states, including Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, California and Michigan, and promised that “The next six months will be interesting.”

General Who Spoke of God Should Be Court-martialed, Group Says

An Air Force two-star general is being blasted by a civil liberties group for speaking in uniform about how God has guided his career.

Video posted on YouTube shows Maj. Gen. Craig Olson speaking at a National Day of Prayer Task Force event May 7. In the speech, Olson refers to himself as a "redeemed believer in Christ," who credits God for his accomplishments in the Air Force.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation has called for Olson to be "aggressively and very visibly brought to justice for his unforgivable crimes and transgressions" by a court-martial, adding that any other service members who helped him should be investigated and punished "to the full extent of military law."

Olson is program executive officer for C3I and Networks at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts. In this position, he is responsible for more than 2,200 personnel and acquisition execution of a $10.9 billion portfolio developing, deploying and sustaining Air Force, joint and coalition cyberspace, networks, cryptologic and data link systems to enable decisive combat operations.

During his 23-minute address, Olsen spoke of "flying complex aircraft; doing complex nuclear missions — I have no ability to do that. God enabled me to do that. He put me in charge of failing programs worth billions of dollars. I have no ability to do that, no training to do that. God did that."

Mikey Weinstein, CEO of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, has sent a blistering letter to Chief of Staff Gen, Mark Welsh, arguing that Olson's comments violate an Air Force instruction, which prohibits airmen from endorsing a particular faith or belief.

"Olson's highly publicized, sectarian speech is nothing less than a brutal disgrace to the very uniform he was wearing and the solemn oath he took to support and defend the United States Constitution," Weinstein writes. "This public address was his, and the USAF's, 'contribution' to this scathingly sectarian 2015 version of the [task force's] annual shame spectacle and display of Christian supremacy and exceptionalism held in the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill."

Urban Food Forests Make Fruit Free For The Picking

To discover the new frontier of urban farming, you'll have to look up — and look sharp — for hanging fruit.

Urban orchards are dropping everything from apples to persimmons to avocados onSeattle, Bloomington, Ind., Boston, Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles and other North American cities. Groups like the Portland Fruit Tree Project advocate for public access to existing fruit trees so that people can glean crops that would otherwise go uneaten — an idea some are calling radical. Other groups are more interested in planting new groves of fruit trees on previously fallow city land.

Fruit trees produce food, but also provide shade, keep greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere, improve water quality and may even deter crime. Advocates say they also have a longer lasting impact on communities than vegetable beds.

"When you plant lettuce, you produce food for today, which is great, but when you plant a tree, you're feeding people tomorrow," says Nina Beth Cardin, director of the Baltimore Orchard Project, a program of the Baltimore non-profit Civic Works. The orchard project has planted thousands of apple, serviceberry, pawpaw, fig and pear trees on public and private land around Baltimore. City officials, striving to meet a goal of increasing the city's tree canopy, have been providing starter trees to Cardin's group, which in turn helps churches and schools plant and learn to maintain fruit trees.
