On this date at 2:00 pm, pursuant to Section 2.08 of the Salisbury City Code, Mayor James Ireton has declared a state of emergency in the City. “Any natural disaster …resulting in the death or injury of persons or the destruction of property to such an extent that extraordinary measures must be taken to protect the health, safety, and welfare” is the section of code cited. Section 2.08.040 states that the mayor “in the interest to public safety and welfare can make the following orders:
Order the temporary closing of any and all streets, alleys and other public ways in the city
Issue such other orders as are imminently necessary for the protection of life and property.”
The staff of the Salisbury Emergency Operations Center has been activated and a further update on this situation will be released during a press conference at the Salisbury Police Department at 3:00 pm.
The National Weather Service has advised that the City of Salisbury is under blizzard conditions from 9:00 am until 12 midnight, with an expected snow accumulation of approximately 7 to 9 additional inches and winds gusts in excess of 45 miles per hour.
The state of emergency will be in effect at 2:00 pm, and due to the “white out” blizzard conditions, all snow removal vehicles have been pulled from removal activities.
The Wicomico County Department of Emergency Management has been notified of this action and the staff of the Salisbury Emergency Operations Center will be requesting assistance from Wicomico County as needed.
The Salisbury Emergency Operations Center is requesting that all members of the public refrain from driving in the city due to the current conditions. After 6:00 pm on this date, pursuant to the provisions cited in section 2.08.040 of the City code, vehicles operating on the roadway may be stopped and enforcement action may be taken.

Funny, I can't see the city police out in their vehicles to enforce this (not because they don't want to, but because they don't have the vehicles to plow through it).
Guess What Daily Times is doing to their delivery drivers?! Sam Oradat is the supervisor for drivers and he is telling his drivers to go out anyway and they can go out and just be sure that they don't "get caught". I am dead serious Joe!
Sam has dropped off papers in our front yard the past few days because my husband will not go out and risk his life to deliver newspapers. Sam Oradat and Gannett Co are looking to kill people just to get the newspapers out to people--REGARDLESS of the law!!
What should they tell this man??? He is psycho! He is driving people crazy with texts and phone calls. HIS BOSS even has been to our house and done the same too but I dont' know his name. Please let the community know what is going on with psycho Daily Times!
If like the last storm, I have to sit in the dark and freeze for 23 hours or load up the Jeep with 4WD and head to a relative's, who has electric, then I will gladly take the ticket and fight it later. Maybe Delmarva Power will pay the fine for me.... ha ha ha ha ha
Daily Times is going to press at 7:30 tonight. Good luck getting those papers out. I won't be out there working for that 8 cents per paper tonight. Let Jason deliver them himself maybe he can get Sam to help him.

I just heard from a plow driver in the area that SPD has a bunch of cars stopped at the Food Lion on Nanticoke Rd for not complying with the "no cars after 6" rule.
7:32pm If this is true, I am glad to hear the PD is issuing tickets for dumb asses out on the road if they don't have to be. Anyone in a car in this blizzard must be an idiot! Even 4-wheel drive vehicles can't get through in these conditions w/white out, etc. If snow plows are getting stuck and were ordered off the rd, that should speak volumes!
For all those employers out there who are threatening staff w/their jobs if they don't go in, shame on you! Leadership starts at the top! Do not ever ask your employees to do something you would not do. If business is so important, the owners should get a cot or air matress out and sleep there themselves like I read someone did on another blog. If an employee willingly agrees to stay past their shift or overnight, then I commend them! What has happened to common sense, common decency, and compassion for others in this area?
