DE. State Troopers Flip Car To Rescue Motorist

I-95 southbound, just north of Route 896, Newark, Delaware, New Castle County

Resume: In the middle of rush hour this afternoon, a crash occurred on I-95 southbound.

A 2001 Chrysler Sebring (operated by Katherine Knapp, 30, of Elkton, Maryland) was traveling southbound on the interstate in the right lane.

A 2006 Freightliner (operated by Carter Mounet, 37, of Newark, Delaware) was traveling southbound on I-95 in the right most center lane. This vehicle was a tractor only with no trailer.

The Freightliner changed lanes to the right lane and into the Chrysler. This impact caused the Chrysler to travel off of the roadway where it overturned several times. The Freightliner also traveled off of the roadway.

When Troopers arrived on the scene, they found the Chrysler overturned. The driver of this vehicle was trying to get herself out and was determined to do so. Officers on the scene worked to push the car upright so the driver could exit the vehicle.

Mr. Mounet was cited for Unsafe Lane Change.

The right two lanes of I-95 southbound were both shut down for approximately half an hour.

Party At T.J. Maloney's Home On Riverside Drive

If you're looking for something exciting to do tonight, stop by T.J. Maloney's home on Riverside drive and congratulate Gary Comegys.

I hear several people have contacted the Sheriff's Department to make sure everyone acts responsibly. Remember Folks, never drink and drive.

That's Riverside Drive and Burning Tree Circle.

This Just In

"Joe, I was just told a few minutes ago that a tax paying citizen and business owner was attacked by a Salsibury Fire Department employee or volunteer last night after the city council meeting. The elderly gentleman was questioning the need for a large ladder truck and a fire boat. I was told this person assaulted the older gentleman right in front of Chief See and police officers. All I know is he said he had 2 children and lives in the Doverdale area. Did you see or hear anything about this. I would like to know why a person representing the Salisbury Fire Department would attack an elderly citizen. Someone he was sworn to protect. If anyone knows anything about this please shed some light on this for us."

"SU's Night With The Mayoral Candidates"

The University's relationship and that of its students with the greater Salisbury community can greatly affect the quality of life for members of our campus and greater community. On April 7, 2009, the City of Salisbury will hold a mayoral election between candidates Jim Ireton and Gary Comegys.

The Student Affairs Wellness Committee, the Center for Conflict Resolution, Guerrieri University Center, College Democrat and College Republication student organizations, and PACE are co-sponsoring " SU's Night with the Mayoral Candidates" on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 7 p.m. in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

The purpose of the evening is to promote civil discourse and the exchange of information between the candidates and the University community. Students, faculty and staff are invited to submit questions prior to the event to allow candidates time to prepare responses and consider the issue of how the new mayor will work with the campus community to promote civility, engage students and the University in city governance, and formulate processes for working successfully together to further community stewardship.

Questions can be submitted via email to Haleigh LaChance, Center for Conflict Resolution at: HNLACHANCE@salisbury.edu by March 23, 2009.BTW..

I read your blog everyday and I love it... keep up the good work.

Who Is Shanie Shields??????

If you GO HERE and type in Shanie Shields, you get NOTHING! That's funny, because I just learned that someone else was able to type in her name, (or other names that she goes by?) and they found a Peace Order against her recently as well as a bunch of unpaid bills.

What has America come to any more these days? There used to be a day when people were criticized for not paying their bills but Shanie couldn't care less. Then a bunch of fools vote for her and put her on the Council with another bunch of other non paying fools and the next thing you know you're getting $860,000.00 Fire Boats, selling Fire Trucks WITH equipment YOUR COUNCIL MEMBERS MISSED when they surplussed the vehicle.

OK, you don't care, I guess Salisbury News shouldn't care any more either. Let's just see what happens with this Election because one thing I will guarantee ALL of you is this. IF things go the wrong direction I will shut this Blog down and I will move on with my personal life. I have given enough to ALL of you and if I don't see record numbers of people at the Polls, you just watch how fast this Blog shuts down.

I'll be happy to leave you Idiots out there with nothing but the Daily Times to rely on. I did my job, Barrie Tilghman is NOT running for Mayor again. If you want me to stick around, if you want this Blog to be free, I strongly suggest ALL: of you get out there and vote. One thing I'll assure each and every one of you with is, you'll have the most serious withdraws you've ever experienced if this Blog goes away.

If someone else is able to find the records of Shanie Shields, you're welcome to post it under comments because I'm confident it's out there.

GOP Infighting Continues

By now you have probably heard about Newt Gingrich standing up to Rush Limbaugh and calling his wishing of failure upon Obama "irrational." If not, here's a link.

So Rush has fired back at Newt, of course. Here is what he said:

"I'm frankly getting tired of talking about Newt. I mean, it's a pointless exercise," Limbaugh said of Gingrich's dismissal of him on "Meet the Press." "I'm surprised by nothing when I'm dealing with people in the media who think they're in politics."

Whoooaaa Nellie!!!! Did I read that right? "I'm surprised by nothing when I'm dealing with people in the media who think they're in politics."

Riddle me this O'Rushy, are YOU in the media or are you in politics? Should be an easy one. I'd have to say MEDIA. Newt was a U.S. Congressman and Speaker of the House soooo...I'm gonna have to say "Yes, he IS in politics."

Rush goes on to say :

They are fly-by-night operators, and most of them stand for nothing until they see a poll about what the American people want, and then they go out and try to say one way or another what the American people want while trying to falsely hold onto an ideology at the same time — and you can't count on them.

OK, Newt Gingrich is a fly-by-night operator whom you can't count on. Suuure.
Here is how big Rush's head is:
“I know that Newt would give his whatever to have what I’ve got,” he said. “So would any of these other critics of mine."

Does this fat windbag even listen to the drivel that is coming out of his mouth? He obviously doesn't think before he speaks.

Rush, you are the best friend a Democrat could have right now. You will single-handedly alienate everyone in your party and we thank you for that. Please continue your obstructionist agenda as we are not falling for it, and it only serves to further expose the joke of an entertainer that you really are.

Is Laura D'Alessandro Just Plain Stupid?

Now you can't just blame Laura D'Alessandro. There is Greg Bassett and Joe Carmean too. You see, in today's Daily Times Article they seem to have CONVENIENTLY forgotten Jim Ireton's name all together.

Now isn't that strange how the Daily Times IMPLIES that Gary Comegys is the front runner for the Mayoral Election, yet he fell behind Jim Ireton by almost 50% of the votes??????

I persoally believe Laura D'Alessandro just doesn't care about what she's doing. This is not just a legendary "Blonde Moment," this is the worst kind of journalism anyone could ever expect. Now mind you, Laura has an Editing Staff that reviews her work and quite frankly chops up and edits her work as well, so it could have been done by Joe Carmean, I don't know.

All I do know is that the few of you left purchasing that paper should take a hard look at just what they're delivering you. Joe Carmean and Greg Bassett clearly have it out for Jim Ireton because he was man enough to challenge them early on. This should give you even more reason to put your vote in for Jim Ireton so he can hopefully blackball that newspaper once in Office. No doubt the Daily Times will come back, we're so sorry Jim, it will never happen again. It's the love/hate relationship they enjoy so much.

I personally think Ireton has enough to sue them and I personally think he would win. However, it wouldn't look good during the election but then again, it might actually look great? Think about it Jim.

I just caught this as well. Where's Jim Ireton on this list as well? This was a vindictive move on the behalf of the Daily Times!

A SFD Comment Worthy Of A Post

"FYI Joe,

the fire districts and mutual aid agreements throughout the County (more particularly those involving Station 16) did not change AT ALL when they relocated Station 16. Now tell me this, how can you move a Station and keep the same logistics? This tells me (and others) one of two things...either the districts were inaccurately delineated before the move and the new location improved logistics (Doubtful) OR the move hindered logistics and they just didn't care to re-evaluate them...

They moved the station over 3/4 of a mile away, over one/two water bodies (north and/or south prong depending on which way you run it) and across a highway from its original location. Wouldn't you think that something would change? ABSOLUTELY!! They are not concerned about effectively and efficiently serving this City/County, they are concerned about "Looking Good" and having "New Toys"..

Ask Chief See if they would consider re-evaluating their district to better suit and serve the people. Or even better (I won't just single out See here), ask ANY fire chief from ANY department if they would be willing to re-evaluate their territories... Every single one of them would say 'NO' without hesitation. Why you ask? They are too proud and are by no means willing to give up territory-even if it better serves the citizens!

If you're going to spend our money at least improve the service! Chew on that for a while-spit it out or swallow."

Eagles fire employee for calling them 'retarted' on Facebook

John Gonzalez of the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote this morning about a fellow named Dan Leone, who, like a lot of other Eagles fans, was upset about the Eagles letting Brian Dawkins go. He changed his status on Facebook to reflect his anger about the situation. It read:

Dan is [expletive] devastated about Dawkins signing with Denver. . .Dam Eagles R Retarted!!

Given how much Dawkins meant to the team, and how the rest of the city reacted, I consider that pretty mild.

Problem is, Dan works for the Eagles. On game days, he's the west gate chief. Not exactly upper management, but still, it's a job with the organization. Someone in the organization got wind of his Facebook status, and was not pleased.

Less than two days after posting the Dawkins remarks, Leone said, he was contacted by Leonard Bonacci, the team's director of event operations. According to Leone, Bonacci said they needed to talk about Leone's Facebook page, and Leone agreed. Leone - who deleted the comment - figured that the two would sit down and that he could apologize to Bonacci in person. But Leone said Bonacci never got back to him after that.

Two days later, Leone said, he received a call from Rachel Vitagliano, the team's guest services manager. Leone said she fired him over the phone. The conversation lasted less than 10 minutes.

And now Dan Leone sits at home, angry and hugging his keyboard.

I guess that's the Eagles' prerogative, and Dan's certainly not the first person in history to be fired for criticizing his employers on Facebook. It's 2009, chief. You've got to be aware that people are looking at what you're saying on the Internet, and if you say your bosses are "retarted," you can't expect a pat on the back for it. It was a dumb thing for him to do.

Still, it seems a little harsh to me. It's a victimless crime. We're talking about a guy here who worked for the team sixteen days a year and has been an Eagles fan his whole life. So his Facebook page insulted the Eagles. Big deal. Who was it exactly that cried themselves to sleep at night because Dan Leone said something mean about them on Facebook? What damage has been done here?

The Eagles heard the same thing and much worse from radio talk show hosts, columnists, and bloggers in the wake of Dawkins leaving the organization. I know they probably didn't enjoy that criticism, but it seems petty to take out their frustration on one guy who was within their reach.

Joke Of The Year

Two women were sitting together, quietly.

Chief See Is Simply Full Of Crap!

In an article dated July 17th, 2008 I confronted Chief See about letting a fully loaded Fire Chase Vehicle get away from them with everything still on it and in it. Chief see said the following when I confronted him about it.

See responded with, "We all can't be perfect like you Joe." He then went on to say, "We're human Joe, so we let one slip away from us."

Well Chiefy, I guess you just let another "one slip away from you" AGAIN, eh? This time it cost the taxpayers some $40,000.00 worth of equipment alone, let alone the give away of a worthy Ladder Fire Truck.

Here's what I find most interesting about that fool. A year before, (perhaps longer) they had a Fire Truck sitting around, (still is) with a blown engine. I said to old Chiefy, I'll give you $2,500.00 cash for it right now at a PAC14 Meeting. He said, no way, I want $5,000.00 for that Truck, Joe.

Well I'll be a SOB! To think for $5,000.00 I could have had a LADDER TRUCK instead that actually works! Heck, I don't need any brakes on that thing, I want it as a toy for my Grandson. Then, they would throw in $40,000.00 worth of additional tools? Man, you really know how to LET those things just "SLIP AWAY" from you, don't you Chiefy?

YOU, the Taxpayers have been scammed by a scam artist. Comegys, you're a fool as well. Wilber, you're about the dumbest attorney I have ever seen. The City didn't have to sell that thing and you know it. Let them sue you for $5,000.00. Then sell off the equipment alone and I'll pay $2,500.00 for the Ladder Truck and park it in the woods and let my Grandson have a field day on it. There, case closed, money made by the City. Pittsville will get over it.

I still want to know how much they're allegedly getting from that Dealer for the Truck with the blown engine. It may have been 2 years ago when I offered $2,500.00 CASH for it.

How many of you still support the Salisbury Fire Department now? Are you aware they ordered TWO MORE LADDER TRUCKS, besides the one they already have and two other Fire Trucks. One Ladder Truck will go to Station 1 and the other to Station 2.

They are boning the Volunteers like there's no tomorrow and County Executive Rick Pollitt needs to put a stop to this as in yesterday. I have a friend who lives on the West side of Salisbury and Hebron actually comes to their rescue, not Salisbury Station 16, even though they built that new Fire Palace on the West side of Town.

I sure do hope Help Is On The Way because Gary Comegys is a joke.

Thanks for your email and your interest.? We are so glad that you are interested in having a Tea Party in your city!? You are absolutely not alone so please do not be afraid to take on this commitment!? There are others out there and they will come out of the woodwork as you start planning this event!? You will not be alone in this, I promise!???

These Tea Parties have taken on a life of their own and have overwhelmed many of us!? It has been impossible to get through all the emails and phone calls!? I am working diligently to get everyone up and running with the planning of a Tea Party.? I am glad you want to do this!? There are many people to walk with you and help you!? Me included!? So, please do not hesitate to ask!

First and foremost, we are working with several large sponsors.? These sponsors include Smart Girl Politics, TCOT (Top Conservatives on Twitter), Don'tGo Movement, and Michelle Malkin.? All of these organizations are promoting the Nationwide Tax Day Tea Parties taking place in cities across the US.

I realize that many organizers of these events are planning tea parties to occur on days other than April 15th.? Unfortunately, our sponsors have decided that we will only be promoting events that actually occur on the 15th of April.?

Therefore, the first step is to make sure that you are planning for Wednesday, April 15th, anytime between the hours of 12 noon and midnight.? If this date and time fit into your plan, the next step would be to create a FaceBook Event page.? Make sure this is an EVENT and not a group!? This is very important!? Once you have created the FaceBook event page, you can send me the link and I will post it to the main Nationwide Tax Day Tea Party group page and to our website www.taxdayteaparty.com.

When creating the FB event, you would just use the name of your city and "Tax Day Tea Party" as the name of your event.? Be sure to include the name of your city in the title of your event! ?This is important so that people find the event when doing a search. ?If you do not know the exact location and time of the event right now, that is fine, you can just say that those details will be announced as finalized.? If you look at the several tea parties listed on the FaceBook page, you will see that many have there information listed as tentative right now.? That is fine to get the ball rolling!

Before you read any further, I encourage you to call me if you have any reservations. ?Do not let the FaceBook event page scare you away!? Many people do not have FaceBook accounts and do not want a FaceBook account. ?I completely understand this and do not want the FaceBook part to deter you. ?We can work around the FaceBook situation if needed by having myself or a team member set up the FaceBook page for your city!?

Atlanta is one of the cities where we plan to hold an event such as a Meet & Greet / Sign Making Party on Saturday, April 11th, in addition to our Tax Day Tea Party on April 15th.? Although there will be no mention of the April 11th event on the Nationwide group page, I can send messages to our Atlanta FaceBook group and post the information there.? We are going to hold both events because we have had a large request from people to hold a Saturday event.? We hope that our Saturday Meet & Greet will get people energized to come out on Wednesday of that week.? We are hoping it will be a launching pad!

I am working with another person on completing a "How To" guide for planning the Tea Party now.? We hope to have the guide completed by the end of the week.? In the meantime, you can go to the www.taxdayteaparty.com or additional resources.? There is a "How To" guide there to get you started.? We will have something more detailed later this week.

A few other tidbits that will help you get the ball rolling...I would advise that you set up an email account for your tea party that you can use on all of your correspondence, event page, press releases, etc.? I set up a gmail account that I use for all of the Atlanta Tea Party events.? That way I can keep it separate from my regular account if I choose and you can also have other people help you with the emails that you receive if needed.? Additionally, I set up a Atlanta Tea Party website to keep people updated that do not use FaceBook.? Believe me, there are many people that do not use FaceBook!? These are just some ideas to get you started.? Atlanta had a very successful event last week, despite the horrendous weather and these are things we did to help us plan our event!

One last thing I will add...I have started a group on FaceBook called America's Tea Party to use as a source to promote events not related to the main Nationwide event.? This is a place where I will also be listing the Atlanta Meet & Greet for April 11th as well.? If you do decide to hold a event in addition to the April 15th event, send me the link and I will post it for you.? I also hope you will consider joining the group and inviting others.? I plan to update the site with links and information on a daily basis!

I am including a picture with this email that you can use to set up your event page.? You will just need to download to your computer and then upload it to FaceBook when creating the event page.? If you have any problem, please give me a call and I will help you!

I hope this will get you started on planning your tea party.? If I can answer any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask!? It is probably better if you call me, because the emails are coming in fast and furious...which is a good thing!

Also, let me say, if you are serious about hosting this event, let me know right away.? That way I will put you down as the Project Servant Leader and list your event on the page as "Coming Soon."? There have been several instances where people waited too long to decide and someone started the ball rolling in the meantime.? If that happens, it gets confusing and can be difficult!? If at all possible, let me know something right away!

Once again, thank you for your interest and participation!? Let me know what you decide!? I look forward to working with you!? Have a great day!

Thanks,
Amy Kremer

SAYING GOODBYE TO MOTHER......

We were dressed and ready to go out for the New Years Eve Party. We turned on a night light, turned the answering machine on, covered our pet parakeet and put the cat in the backyard.

We phoned the local cab company and requested a taxi. The taxi arrived and we opened the front door to leave the house.

The cat we put out in the yard, scoots back into the house. We didn't want the cat shut in the house because she always tries to eat the bird.

My wife goes out to the taxi, while I went inside to get the cat. The cat runs upstairs, with me in hot pursuit. Waiting in the cab, my wife doesn't want the driver to know that the house will be empty for the night. So, she explains to the taxi driver that I will be out soon, "He's just going upstairs to say Goodbye to my mother."

A few minutes later, I get into the cab. "Sorry I took so long," I said, as we drove away. "That stupid biotch was hiding under the bed. I had to poke her with a coat hanger to get her to come out! She tried to take off, so I grabbed her by the neck. Then, I had to wrap her in a blanket to keep her from scratching me. But it worked! I hauled her fat a$$ downstairs and threw her out into the back yard!"

The cab driver hit a parked car.

Dog & Cat Owners BEWARE

Please tell every dog or cat owner you know. Even if you don't have a pet, please pass this to those who do.

Over the weekend the doting owner of two young lab mixes purchased Cocoa Mulch from Target to use in their garden. They loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog Calypso decided that the mulch smelled good enough to eat and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats something new but wasn't acting lethargic in any way. The next day, Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk . Half way through the walk, she had a seizure and died instantly.

Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the company's website, this product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and cats.

Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey's, and they claim that 'It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won't eat it.'

This Snopes site gives the following information: http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/cocoamulch.asp

Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Foreman's Garden Supply and other Garden supply stores, contains a lethal ingredient called ' Theobromine' . It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like chocolate and it really attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die. Several deaths already occurred in the last 2-3 weeks. Theobromine is in all chocolate, especially dark or baker's chocolate which is toxic to dogs. Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of th eobromine, a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffei n e and theophylline. A dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacao bean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shells revealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine.
