To ALL Candidates

Today I have received an unbelievable amount of Press Releases by numerous candidates. Clearly you haven't seen any published because quite frankly it ticks me off.

Look people, you're NOT running for President of the United States and I don't want to hear your personal sob stories about how this affected Americans. I lost a Cousin in the Twin Towers and if anyone here has anything to say about how sad 9-11 was, it would start with me.

However, getting one e-mail after the other telling me how this date changed America forever, give it a rest. We're fighting a war in Iraq we shouldn't be. There never were any weapons of mass destruction and if ANYONE had the whole thing right it would have been Bin Laden when he stated he could fly planes into the Twin Towers and IF he ever did so it would crush the American economy for good. Guess what, Bin Laden was right, period, end of story.

How America could let this happen is beyond me. How our Government could allow two planes to hit the Twin Towers and then the Pentagon, (of all places) is an embarrassment to ALL Americans. You may not like hearing what I'm saying but quite frankly its not only the truth, it hurts each and every one of us.

We pay heavy duty taxes in this Country, money that is supposed to protect us from such tragedies. I don't care who's watch it was on, democrat/republican. Americans died, period. Americans are still dying.

I don't want any stinking letter from some wanna-be politician who thinks they should be the ones gaining the most attention on this day. BITE ME! My honor goes to the people we lost in New York and Washington, D.C.. I'm talking about innocent people, Firefighters, Police Officers, Airline Crews, our Soldiers around the World. You don't see these politicians talking about them. They want to make this about them and I'm not letting it fly.

If you want to CELEBRATE 9-11, take a moment of silence, (on your own or with your family & friends) and truly honor the people who lost their lives that day and to those who truly protect us today. Not from local fires or criminals. In my opinion, there is NOTHING to celebrate about 9-11. There should be no special Holiday. It was an embarrassing day for America. Our Country FAILED us that day, not once, not twice but THREE TIMES! Lord knows I'm not forgetting those HERO'S who also went down in that plane in PA. and that would be FOUR times in one day.

I have an Uncle who retired from the Pentagon after 36 years as an Officer of the Secretary of Defense. 36 years Folks! Let me assure you of one thing right here and now. What happened that day should have been absolutely impossible. Criticize me all you like but until you have a Family Member who served 36 years in the Pentagon in the position my Uncle held, you have no room to criticize what I'm telling you.

As for the politicians running for office who want their voices heard on this day, take it somewhere else. This Family lost one person in this event and another person who spent far too many years making sure you and I were protected from such a thing ever happening. We have Family Members serving in our Armed Forces and many more who have since retired from protecting those candidates who think today should be their day to tell us how they feel.

None of us living today will ever forget 9-11. We do not need a special day or a holiday to remember this horrific and tragic day in our history. The ONLY people we should be hearing from are the survivors of that tragic day and not local politicians running for office.

Thanks for letting me vent Folks.

U.S. Tax Court Decides Against OPA

Total Liability could exceed $1 million

OPA has lost the IRS case in the U.S. Tax Court related to taxes at the Beach Club parking.
Potential OPA tax liability could amount to nearly $1 million for the period 2003 through 2011, not including interest. Interest could push the amount over $1 million. OPA General Manager Bob Thompson said today that the association is currently weighing its legal options. OPA could appeal the decision to a Federal court.

It should be noted that this case was decided on August 30, 2010, yet the OPA Board of Directors has yet to tell association members. The Board even failed to inform the membership of the decision at its meeting yesterday, choosing instead to go into private session to talk about it.

Association members deserve better communication from their Board of Directors.

In the anxiety-inducing Seinfeld episode "The Parking Garage," the gang wanders hopelessly through a parking structure, unable to remember where they left their car. Too bad they lived in the days before keyless entry panic buttons and digital cameras were ubiquitous.

Interesting Factoids

The next time we hear that the big unions' pension funds are underwater and need another multi-billion-dollar bailout from the taxpayers, consider this:

The AFL-CIO plans to spend $50 million on campaigns this year, and SEIU has a $44 million budget for political donations.

I just thought you'd like to know. Facts are very helpful sometimes, and these clearly speak for themselves.

Here are some more eye-popping numbers associated with unions that you may belong to, being used for their “massive incumbent protection programs.”

Old Navy 36" Pants Actually 41"

Your pants are lying to you. An Esquire investigation found that different clothing stores have greatly varying definitions of waistline size. Old Navy was the worst offender. Their "36 inch" pants measured actually at 41 inches. At the GAP, 36 inches actually means 39. Guess we need to start going to stores with conversion charts in hand.

Obama Voices Strongest Support Yet For Ground Zero Mosque

President Obama voiced his strongest support yet Friday for a plan to locate a Muslim community center and mosque two blocks from ground zero in New York City, saying constructing the facility there was an "inalienable right."

Asked during a Friday news conference what he thought the reaction would be if the site were moved, Obama replied: "This country stands for the proposition that all men and women are created equal, that they have certain inalienable rights. One of those inalienable rights is to practice their religion freely. And what that means is that if you could build a church on a site, you could build a synagogue on a site, you could build a Hindu temple on a site, then you should be able to build a mosque on the site."

Debra Burlingame, the sister of an American Airlines pilot who died in the 9/11 attacks, and who leads a group of 9/11 families staunchly opposed to the ground zero mosque location, told Newsmax in an exclusive interview that there now can be no doubt President Obama supports the specific location of the controversial mosque.

"There's no question now," Burlingame tells Newsmax. "He was given an opportunity. The question was posed: 'We all know there's freedom of religion, but where do you stand on the wisdom of putting this mosque there?' And his answer was to go back to this Koran burning, and how that would inflame the passions of more than a billion Muslims.

"He seems to utterly ignore or dismiss the passions or the sensibilities of 300 million Americans, including America Muslims, who told us this mosque, without question, will be interpreted in the Muslim world as ratification of the attacks that took place nine years ago, that it will be used to recruit jihadis and that it will endanger our troops," Burlingame told Newsmax.

When asked during Friday's news conference to comment further on the specific location, Obama appeared to bristle, stating: "I think I've been pretty clear on my position."

New York Times Publisher Says Print Edition Will Eventually Fade Out

It's easy to imagine most newspapers ceasing print editions, but surely stalwarts such as the New York Times will always stick around in physical form, if only to serve tradition, right? Wrong, says Arthur Sulzberger Jr., the New York Times chairman and publisher.

Where were you on this day in 2001?

Will you be flying your American flag in honor of those lost?

Did you think President Bush showed true leadership on this day and the ones following?

Do you think this day should be a federal holiday?

How should we remember this day?

Obama's Tone Shifts On Health Care

President Barack Obama told voters repeatedly during the health care debate that the overhaul legislation would bring down fast-rising health care costs and save them money. Now, he's hemming and hawing on that.

So far, the law he signed earlier this year hasn't had the desired effect. An analysis from Medicare's Office of the Actuary this week said that the nation's health care tab will go up - not down - through 2019 as a result of Obama's sweeping law, though the increase is modest.

Obama offered some caveats when asked in his news conference Friday about the apparent discrepancy between what he promised and what's actually happening so far. On several other topics, too, his rhetoric fell short of a full accounting.

A look at some of the claims at his news conference and how they compare with the facts:

USDA Knew Of Poor Sanitation At Egg Facility Months Before Recall

Unless you've been only been paying attention to the 24/7 Big Brother live feeds this summer, you've probably heard about that tiny little recall of 380 million eggs because of potential salmonella poisoning. Now the Wall Street Journal reports that USDA graders noticed problems at the source facility earlier this year but opted to wait until FDA inspectors figured things out for themselves in August.

ICE Uses Court Backlog As Excuse To Set Up 'Amnesty' Program

The Obama administration is changing the federal immigration enforcement strategy in ways that reduce the threat of deportation for millions of illegal immigrants, even as states such as Arizona, Colorado, Virginia, Ohio and Texas are pushing to accelerate deportations.

The changes focus enforcement on immigrants who have committed serious crimes, an effort to unclog immigration courts and detention centers. A record backlog of deportation cases has forced immigrants to wait an average 459 days for their hearings, according to an Aug. 12 report by Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), which analyzes government data.

Among the recent changes:

• Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director John Morton ordered agency officials on Aug. 20 to begin dismissing deportation cases against people who haven't committed serious crimes and have credible immigration applications pending.

• A proposed directive from Morton posted on ICE's website for public comment last month would generally prohibit police from using misdemeanor traffic stops to send people to ICE. Traffic stops have led to increased deportations in recent years, according to Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, a think tank whose research supports tighter enforcement.

The directive said exceptions would be made in certain cases, such as when immigrants have serious criminal records.

• ICE officers have been told to "exercise discretion" when deciding whether to detain "long-time lawful permanent residents, juveniles, the immediate family members of U.S. citizens, veterans, members of the armed forces and their families, and others with illnesses or special circumstances," Daniel Ragsdale, ICE executive associate director of management, testified July 1 in the administration's lawsuit to block Arizona's controversial immigration law. The law requires police officers to determine the immigration status of suspects stopped for another offense if there was a "reasonable suspicion" they are in the USA illegally. A U.S. district judge has held up the provision pending review.

• A draft memo from ICE's sister agency, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, to Morton discussed ways the administration could adjust regulations so certain groups, such as college students and the spouses of military personnel, could legalize their status or at least avoid deportation if Congress doesn't pass comprehensive immigration reform. USCIS rules on applications for visas, work permits and citizenship.

USCIS spokesman Christopher Bentley said the memo was intended to stimulate brainstorming on how to legalize immigrants if new laws aren't passed.

The administration's new direction puts it at odds with those who believe the nation's immigration laws should be strictly enforced and that all illegal immigrants should be deported.

ICE is "thumbing its nose at the law," said Rep. Steve King of Iowa, the top Republican on the House immigration subcommittee.

Rigged PDFs Exploiting Just-Patched Adobe Reader Flaw

Just three days after Adobe shipped a patch with fixes for a critical Adobe Reader vulnerability, hackers are using booby-trapped PDF files to fire exploits against Windows users.

[ SEE: Heads up: Patch your Adobe Reader now ]

The in-the-wild attacks, first spotted by the SANS Internet Storm Center, follows the public release of proof-of-concept exploits at Milw0rm.com and underscores the importance of quickly patching third-party desktop applications.

I have seen a sample of one of the rigged PDF files in circulation and can confirm it is indeed exploiting the CVE-2008-2992 vulnerability, which is a stack-based buffer overflow in Adobe Acrobat and Reader 8.1.2 and earlier. It allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a PDF file that calls the util.printf JavaScript function with a crafted format string argument.

From the SANS ISC alert:
The payload is in a JavaScript object embedded in the PDF document. Once extracted, it just contains first level obfuscation with a simple eval(unescape()) call.

Once deobfuscated, parts of the publicly posted PoC are visible, but the attackers also modified certain parts.

Adobe Reader is one of the most widely distributed pieces of software on the Windows ecosystem to the application of this patch should be an absolute priority.

Pa. Town's Immigration Law Falls In Court

Federal role infringed, judges rule

A federal appeals court on Thursday struck down a Pennsylvania town's immigration ordinances as infringing on the federal government's right to control immigration rules, adding more fuel to the heated battle over how far states and localities can go in trying to push out illegal immigrants.

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Hazleton, in northeastern Pennsylvania, cannot require landlords to check renters' immigration status, nor can it require businesses to use an electronic database to check whether potential employees are authorized to work.

The court, based in Philadelphia, said Hazleton's employment policy tries to enforce one part of federal law but ignores other things Congress took into consideration.

Dover – Delaware State Police Superintendent Robert M. Coupe has announced the appointment of two Majors to his executive staff. One promotion is historic in nature since the Division will elevate a female trooper to the rank of Major.

On Monday, September 13, 2010 Captain Charles J. (Chip) Simpson and Captain Melissa A. Zebley will be promoted to the rank of Major.

Colonel Robert Coupe stated, “Captains Simpson and Zebley both earned this opportunity through their hard work and distinguished performance. Their diverse backgrounds bring an incredible amount of skills and knowledge to our Executive Staff. This is a tremendous opportunity for the division as we continue to move the agency forward”.

“I am honored to join with Col. Coupe in announcing the promotion of two outstanding troopers who bring a wealth knowledge and experience to the DSP Executive Staff. The expertise Maj. Simpson and Maj. Zebley possess will surely be an asset to the Division,” said Safety and Homeland Security Secretary Lewis D. Schiliro.

Captain Simpson was appointed to the Division on September 2, 1980. After completing his academy training he was assigned to Troop 7 near Lewes. That was followed by assignments at Troop 1, Penny Hill and Troop 6, Prices Corner. In November 1983 Simpson was assigned as a K-9 handler until April 1989 when he was transferred as an investigator to the Special Investigations Unit. In January 1991 Simpson was promoted to Sergeant and took command of the northern Drug Unit. In November of 1994 he was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned as the Officer in Charge of the Special Investigations Unit. He was later transferred to Troop 6, Prices Corner, in June 1998 where he assumed responsibilities for the criminal operation of the troop. In June 2000 Simpson was promoted to Captain and was transferred to Troop 2, where he was in charge of all the trooper detectives who investigated major crimes in New Castle County. Captain Simpson was also recognized for his involvement in the Steven Pennell Homicide Investigation in 1989.

Captain Zebley is an 18 year member of the Division and was appointed as a trooper in July of 1992. Upon completion of her academy training she was assigned to Troop 6, Prices Corner. In February 2007 she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to Headquarters as the Fiscal Officer for the Division. In April 2009 she was transferred to Troop 2 near Glasgow where she was in charge of patrol operations for the troop. In August 2009 Zebley was promoted to Captain and was transferred to Troop 1 as the Commander.

Captain Zebley is the Officer in Charge of the Delaware State Police Honor Guard and a member of the Critical Incident Stress Management Team.

Captain Zebley attended the following educational institutions:

Bachelor of Science, University of Delaware, 1991
Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, 2000
Masters of Science, Wilmington University, 2003
235th Session FBI National Academy, 2008

Since 2003, Captain Zebley has been a Wilmington University adjunct instructor and a program assistant for the Criminal Justice Program. She has organized the annual Women in Criminal Justice Leadership Conference since its inception in 2005.

This promotion makes Captain Zebley the first female trooper in the Division’s 87 year history to hold the rank of Major. When the state police was formed in 1923 as the Delaware State Highway Police, the department was comprised of an all white male force until the first African American, William W. Bessix, was appointed as a trooper in 1969. In 1975 Georgia A. Carter and Cynthia A. Lowden were the first females appointed as troopers with the Division.

WICOMICO COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT ENCOURAGES AMERICANS TO GET READY DURING NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH

Seventh annual NPM helps Americans take steps toward becoming prepared
The Wicomico County Health Department is proud to be participating in the seventh annual National Preparedness Month (NPM) in September. Sponsored by FEMA’s Ready Campaign, NPM is a nationwide effort encouraging individuals, families, businesses, and communities to work together and take action to prepare for emergencies.

This year, NPM focuses on encouraging all Americans to take active steps toward getting involved and becoming prepared. Preparedness is everyone’s responsibility.

We have to work together, as a team, to ensure that individuals, families, and communities are ready. Individuals are encouraged to: make a family emergency plan; put together an emergency supply kit; be prepared to help your neighbor; and work as a team to keep everyone safe.

Throughout the month of September, the health department is partnering with local day care providers by distributing preparedness information in an effort to help parents, children and teachers better prepare for emergencies. Posters, brochures, handouts and informational resources are available at the Health Department by calling the Emergency Preparedness Program at 410-219-3957 or at their website at www.wicomicohealth.org.

This is the third year the Wicomico County Health Department has participated in NPM.
