Green and Blue by Ben Stone. for Brooke Mulford

Lose it for Brooke
So our friend Nancy Camp - who's been a friend of the page since it was created and even "lost it" for Brooke last year - told Brooke's story to singer/songwriter Ben Stone and this is what happened. Ben wrote this awesome song for Brooke called 'Green and Blue'.

Check it out. Amy played it for Brooke yesterday and it gave her a big smile even on a tough day. She loved it!

Ben's in the process of recording it professionally, but he let us put this YouTube version up. This way you all can share it with Brooke and think about her smile when you hear it.

Thanks Ben!

Are Salisbury - Wicomico Taxpayers Being Set-up By Some Of Our Own Elected Democratic State Representatives?

Are Wicomico residents being set-up for imposition of a new special tax?  A few days ago, SBYnews picked up some peculiar activity on our radar screen as we will elaborate latter-on in this article.

On February 7, 2014 - (keep that date fresh on your mind) - two western shore Montgomery County State representatives, Delegate Shiela Hixson, and, Senator Richard Madaleno sponsored new taxing legislation that will allow Counties to create special tax districts to impose new taxes.  (HB1279/SB0627)

Special Taxing Districts - Transportation Improvements and Exemption From County Tax Limitations - (click onto link to read bill)

According to the bills language, these newly proposed tax districts may allow special taxes to be assessed - (i.e. local motor fuel taxes and/or other taxes, etc.) - to fund transportation improvements.  This bill will allow creation of new taxes to override any previously established state & local tax cap limits.

HISTORICAL ANALYSIS:

Wicomico County - State Delegate/County Council Breakfast Meeting No. 1, Wicomico Youth & Civic Center - December 7, 2013

A few weeks ago while attending the first breakfast meeting at the Civic Center that included our County Council and local State Delegation - I heard our County Executive - Rick Pollitt allude to legislation that might be able to supplement Wicomico County's diminishing transportation budget.  He stated that it might be beneficial to have said legislation to be pre-filed so as to allow sufficient time for the legislation to be enacted - as opposed to simply letting the legislation die in committee as a result of the legislature running out of time.  - (In this reporters humble opinion - this was a 'fishing expedition' to try and extract more tax dollars from Wicomico's taxpayers in order to fund Wicomico's diminishing transportation budget)

Wicomico County - State Delegate/County Council Breakfast Meeting No. 2, Wicomico Youth & Civic Center - February 8, 2014

At the second breakfast meeting I noticed that there was a colloquy of discussion on how to try and lure more businesses to our area in order to help improve our deteriorating Income Tax revenue streams.  Recently - (Wicomico/Salisbury) - got national recognition by being nationally ranked as the  - '7th worst deteriorating economy in the nation' - according to the national ranking by the Huffington Business Journal article - 'America's Fastest Growing (Shrinking Economies) : 24/7 Wall St.' - (click onto link to view article)

Conclusion - Ramifications

Are any of Wicomico's current State legislators and/or County representatives encouraging Western Shore Legislative Delegates to do their dirty work

By that - I mean are any of our local Delegates using their western shore Delegate counterparts - (accomplices) - to enable new taxing legislation by having them sponsor new taxing initiatives that will basically enonerate our locally elected Delegates - out of the local public spotlight? (Taxation without representation - authors emphasis)

We have all seen this happen before - (i.e. Wicomico's Maintenance of Effort).  If not, then Delegate Norman Conway, Delegate Rudy Cane, Delegate Mike McDermott, Delegate Charles Otto, Delegate Addie Eckhardt, Delegate Jeannie Haddaway Riccio, and, Senator Mathias won't have any qualms about exempting Wicomico County from this new taxing legislation.  And I am quite sure that the local Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce members will also want to weigh-in on this 'new tax' parade.

Author's Note:  Having previously read virtually every House & Senate bill synopsis for each of the past 6 legislative sessions, I have noticed that most all of the real controversial legislation is sponsored at the 11th hour in hopes that the public won't pick it up.  These two bills were sponsored on last day - drop dead deadline under normal House Rule 32b - February 7th, 2014, in order to try and avoid the public spotlight.  Click here  - the House/Senate Index to see it for yourself.

Maryland Liberals Winning The Battle But Republicans Can In Fact Win The War

There are TWO ways Republicans can win this war within the state of Maryland. One is easier than the other but consider the following.

One, the Eastern Shore can secede from the state of Maryland and become its own state. We can become a republican state and I mean that by every sense of the word.

The second option is an even easier one. ALL Republicans can simply LEAVE the state of Maryland and move to either Delaware or the Eastern Shore of Virginia, both of which are not very far away.

The idea would be, leave these Liberals basking in their own BS and let them figure out just how they'll survive. They can tax themselves and fee themselves to death until these SOB's finally figure out that it is the Republicans that have been carrying them all these years.

I was watching a local television station yesterday where they were saying there's a SHORTAGE of real estate for sale. Are you people kidding me, a SHORTAGE!

Delaware taxes are dirt cheap. There is no Delaware sales tax. Take the plunge and get the heck out of Maryland before you lose everything.

Let's see what happens to Jim Ireton and Rick Pollitt when everyone starts packing up and leaving. Tell them we'll come back when we can swim in the Wicomico River and the Chesapeake Bay.

Salisbury Police Acknowledged Some Calibration Issues

After months of obstruction, the City of Salisbury acknowledged that some lapses in the calibration of their speed cameras had in fact taken place, according to a report on WMDT:

Annual calibration reports for the city's cameras were recently released after public information requests from several watchdog groups. In those reports, it was revealed that certifications for two cameras had lapsed. They expired in December 2012, and weren't renewed until January 2013. It ended up being a 34 day span.

"All of the citations that were issued in that span were either voided or the people were refunded their money," Barkley said. "But, just because it lapsed, doesn't mean it wasn't accurate."

The error is not completely unheard of. Brekford also runs the programs in Greenbelt and Hagerstown, where hundreds of citations were also refunded or voided because of the same situation.

"Some of those issues with the other jurisdictions, I can't tell you it's all Brekford, I don't know," Barkley said.
He adds the oversight reinforces the need for the local jurisdictions to run their programs, and not the vendors.

Salisbury had initially told the Maryland Drivers Alliance that they don't keep calibration records on file, but that their vendor had them... even though a city official is supposed to sign daily logs by law. Brekford delayed the Public Information Act request for a month, and then demanded and excessive fee of to see the records
Then a narrower Public Information Act request made by another MDA member was obstructed for three months. Eventually some documents were provided in response to a request by the Washington Times, which showed significant calibration lapses, and most requested daily setup logs were not produced. It also turned out that the number of records Brekford claimed as the basis for their excessive fee in our initial request was greatly exaggerated, if the all of the documents even existed at all.

Jimmy Wants You To Pony Up $24 Million A Year To Clean The Bay...

Yet if you click on the image above taken just yesterday you'll quickly realize just how full of CRAP these Liberals are.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars have already gone into a River in which YOUR Mayor claims you'll be able to swim in within four more years.

A lot of money has been spent, (even back to the Barrie Tilghman days) to catch the "FLOATABLES" from coming into the River. Well, how's it working for you Ladies & Gentlemen? Click on that picture and let it enlarge so you can see more clearly just what kind of BS your elected officials are feeding you.

REMEMBER, this is what you CAN SEE. Lord knows what else if sinking to the bottom, eh? So if you throw on a bathing suit, take off your shoes and socks and jump in, when your feet hit the bottom and you feel it all squishy, is it MUD? Its probably more like the swimming pool scene in Caddyshack instead.

There is no better evidence we can deliver than these images on a regular basis PROVING Jake Day and Jim Ireton are snake oil salesmen and if you are stupid enough to buy it from them, well, you deserve exactly what you get. Just remember, your supposed to be able to swim in that River in 4 more years and six years ago Jimmy never said you'd have to fork up $24 million a year to get there.

Jobs In Salisbury

Good morning Joe,

We usually hear about all the unemployed people here on the shore and I just wanted to share something with you in hopes it might help someone find a job. Driving down E. Main Street there is a banner on the fence by Chesapeake Shipbuilding announcing they need help. They are looking for welders, pipe fitters and painters. Hope this can really help someone out.

UPDATE ON BROOKE: PRAYERS NEEDED

Please share this and spread the word. Brooke needs your prayers. In CHOP right now, with a 103 fever and an ANC count of 0. She's getting a blood transfusion now to hopefully help get her counts up. Help her keep her fight!

A Letter To The Editor: County Roads Employee's

Joe,

One day last week I had my normal daily activities here at home to do and decided to take advantage of the sun and get outdoors around the house. While I intended to enjoy it I was interrupted by a Wicomico County Roads dump truck going by not 1,2, but three times with cold patch, shovels & rakes in the truck stopping nowhere in sight to do any patch work. A quick drive to both ends of the road revealed no cold patch work done, but boy did they miss an opportunity to pick up a bunch of roadside trash! They apparently drove by it all 3 times failing to see it I think not more like failing to stop and take 5 minutes to make this taxpayer feel like maybe they should all lose their jobs and I wouldn't care since they have once again failed me and the taxpayers of Wicomico County. I'm watching the trash and plan to give the county time to reply to my complaint before I take pictures and send them to you! Maybe it's time to ask your resders how they feel about the level of services they are recieving from the county overall?

Thanks for everything you do!

Report: OJ Simpson On Hunger Strike In Effort To End His Life

“I’m not going to eat, and I won’t let docs at the prison revive me in any way," O.J. reportedly said. "I will fight it. I used to live my way, and now I’m going to die my way."
The National Enquirer is reporting that O.J. Simpson is so desperate to end his incarceration in Nevada that he is trying to commit suicide by going on a hunger strike.

Simpson was given a 33-year prison sentence for armed robbery and kidnapping which he is currently serving at the Lovelock Correctional Center.

The suspected murderer is depressed and simply wants to “just sit down in a corner and die,” the Enquirer reported. “O.J. is done.”

A Letter To The Editor: Animal Abuse

Well let's see here. I just heard after the neighbors dogs attacked my daughters dog to the cost of over $900.00 to put him back together. Then one month later the same dogs attacked and killed her cat in her front yard the court said they can keep their dogs if they put up a kennel. Where is the justice. I feel the local heath department and the humane society and the court system has let her down. It's like what she had to go though meant nothing. She had to see her cat being pulled apart by these two dogs as if they were playing tug of war. I am so ashamed of you all. This is not the end.

Pier Cleanup In Ocean City

Pier Cleanup In Ocean City
At least four pilings were broken off the eastern end of the Wicomico Street Pier yesterday from the rough surf associated with the latest winter storm. Crews representing the pier lease holder -- Bayshore Development -- are seen here cleaning up the debris this morning. A significant portion of the pier was rebuilt last year after Hurricane Sandy destroyed the same end of the structure. This most recent damage is not as widespread as that from late 2012, but considerable work will need to be done to shore it up in the coming months. Photos by Chris Parypa Photography

A Taxpayer's Perspective

I attend many County Council meetings, budget meetings, Legislative Breakfasts and hearings because I want to know what is really going on within our local government. At some of these events you can ask questions and get an answer. Most of our budget hearings are like this. You can ask Mr. Pollitt or Mr. Fredericksen a question and they will answer you right there. At our County Council meetings there is a time at the end for "Public Comments".  It is exactly what it says "Comments".  Don't expect any questions to be answered because it is what it states "Public Comment". However, there have been times when I have seen council members actually answer a quick question.  At a recent Legislative Breakfast (which I feel is a good event) you the taxpayer have absolutely no input other than to pay for the meal your local representatives are consuming and you get the honor of sitting there watching them eat. At no point can you ask a questions or provide any input.  Now remember when you go to the Maryland Legislature you at least have the opportunity to sign up and speak on any of the bills and I've had many questions answered. Here in Wicomico County I feel that our county government and local legislative representatives miss out on the practical perspective that the citizens could  bring forward.

Welfare Recipients In D.C., Md. Make More Than Twice Minimum Wage

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Maryland and D.C. are among 35 states where welfare programs pay more than a minimum-wage job, according to a new study.

Conducted by the Cato Institute, a think tank headquartered in D.C., the study found that residents on welfare in the District receive the equivalent of $24.43 per hour. Welfare recipients in Maryland get around $18.35 per hour in assistance.

Maryland’s minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. D.C.’s is $8.25. That means welfare recipients in both states receive more than twice as much per hour than someone working a minimum wage job.

D.C. has the most second most generous welfare benefit package in the country, after Hawaii, and Maryland comes in 10th.

Maryland Foreclosure Rate In January Ranks Third Highest In The Country

Maryland had the third highest foreclosure rate in the country in January, with one in every 543 homes touched by foreclosure filings, according to a monthly report released Thursday.

The increase in foreclosure activity – up 98 percent year-over-year to almost 4,400 filings – ran counter to the national trend, which saw foreclosure activity fall 18 percent from January 2013, according to data from real estate information firm RealtyTrac. The firm tracks default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions.

Maryland, which has seen year-over-year gains in foreclosure activity for 19 months in a row, ranked behind Florida and Nevada in the report.

Experts said the gains reflected banks starting to move more aggressively through a backlog of loans. Maryland’s judicial process, in combination with lawsuits against lenders, slowed foreclosure proceedings, they said.

“We’re not seeing a new wave of people who are unable to afford it suddenly. This is a backlog issue,” said Jonathan Benya, an Annapolis-based real estate agent for Keller Williams Realty.

Publishers Notes: How LOUD do I have to YELL?  Maybe NOW you'll get it.

Excuse Me, Do You Have An Extra Pair Of Boots, It's Getting Thick Around Here

"Salisbury Metropolitan Statistical Area."

"This used to encompass Wicomico and Somerset counties," says Jake Day, president of the Salisbury City Council. "Today, it encompasses Sussex County in Delaware, Worcester County in Maryland, Somerset County in Maryland and Wicomico County in Maryland."

"Salisbury is really not in that bad of a position as indicated in that report," says Ernie Coleburn, CEO of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce.

It would seem that Salisbury News is now getting tag teamed by both local television news stations but that's OK. I feel like a senior citizen already helping young children at both news stations. We'll start calling them my "Flock" or "Flockers".

Anyhow, WMDT took our data we provided the other day and allowed the City to cover their rear ends, but they failed. You can read their full article HERE

Ernie Coleburn with the Chamber of Commerce and Jake Day went into immediate damage control. However, Jake Day did say we need to concentrate on jobs. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR JAKE? Wicomico County lost 1,800 jobs in December Ernie, do tell us what's so good going on in Salisbury or Wicomico County! I know, tell us ALL of the new businesses that have moved to Salisbury. Oh, that's right, THERE ARE NONE!

Now I can see why they brought back that retired has been. You remember this guy, right Folks. He's the same guy that asked the questions at the PACE Forum and every other Candidate aside from Debbie Campbell and myself got the questions in advance and actually had scripted answers, all the while saying, I want everyone to know that NONE of the Candidates received these questions in advance. The entire crowd broke out in hysterics.

Mr. Day, come on man. Look, why can't you Liberals just flat out admit, we're in deep doo doo and we need to work harder at REVITALIZING our economy and jobs. Do you people really believe that tens of thousands of people are buying your BS? Do you really believe people can't see the people standing at almost EVERY traffic light with a sign and a can begging for HELP. I'll bet you simpletons had NO CLUE that little old gray haired citizens can't even afford to keep their homes warm this winter BECAUSE THEY ARE BROKE. It's jackasses like these two that have screwed even the elderly not only out of their retirement savings, they're losing their homes too. God Forbid someone like Joe Albero step forward and actually expose things the Liberals DON'T want you to hear.

Let me give you an example. Yesterday I called a local store in Salisbury to order a skid, (1 ton) of heating pellets. I didn't need a total ton but I thought it best to have extras in case someone else I knew needed some. It turns out, while speaking to the clerk, there are many elderly people coming in with their  last $20.00 just to buy pellets. The stories I was hearing just broke my heart.

Maybe if Jake Day were to step away from all the local Bars at night and actually started visiting local businesses and asked them how the ACTUAL economy was going, he and Ernie would get a TRUTHFUL understanding about REALITY. These two remind me of the old snake oil salesmen.

You people need to get your head out of your asses and start representing WE THE PEOPLE. In the mean time, I could use an extra pair of boots if anyone out there can spare it. The BS here in Salisbury is so thick I wore out my old pair in no time at all.

Wal-Mart’s Threatening To Pull Out Of D.C. If It Has To Pay A Higher Minimum Wage. So What?

For two and a half years now, Washington has been trying to figure out what, if anything, to do about the six stores Wal-Mart is planning to open in the city. The company has a pretty bad history of paying low wages and vacuuming streets of their local businesses, and activists have pushed for concessions that would at least force it to be a good corporate citizen.

But the company cut its real estate deals such that local politicians had little leverage, and most didn't want to use it anyway, lulled by promises of thousands of jobs and retail for some of the neighborhoods that need it most. Ultimately, Mayor Vincent Gray signed a "community partnership agreement" that contains goals for the hiring of local residents, but no enforcement mechanism whatsoever.

At long last, however, the D.C. Council may have found a way to squeeze something more out of the world's largest retailer: passing a bill that requires all corporations in the city with more than $1 billion in global sales and operating in spaces larger than 75,000 square feet to pay a minimum wage of $12.50, with exceptions for companies with collective bargaining agreements (read the bill here). That means that Wal-Mart, along with other big chains such as Home Depot, Costco and Macy's, would have to pay nearly 50 percent more than D.C.'s existing $8.25 minimum wage.

Publishers Notes: I happen to know of one person who is working on these new locations in D.C.. I am being told WalMart has already stopped work on one of the locations.

That being said, if there is ANY business that should get slammed for paying too little while making MORE MONEY than almost every other business in America, WalMart should be slammed.

Let them shut the damn stores down and CALL THEIR BLUFF!

WICOMICO HEROIN DEALER SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS IN PRISON

On February 13, 2014, Joseph Allen Waltemeyer, Sr., age 47, of Delmar, Maryland, was convicted and sentenced on one count of possession with the intent to distribute heroin. A Wicomico County Circuit Court judge sentenced Waltemeyer to ten years of active incarceration in the Maryland Division of Corrections.

Waltemeyer had been pending charges related to a drug investigation conducted by members of the Salisbury Police Department’s Safe Streets Unit and members of the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit. This investigation culminated in Waltemeyer’s arrest on October 8, 2013, outside of a business in Hebron, Maryland. During a search of Waltemeyer’s vehicle, investigators discovered 39 separate baggies containing heroin. Waltemeyer admitted to investigators that he intended to sell the heroin.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello commended the Salisbury Police Department’s Safe Streets Unit and the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked James L. Britt who prosecuted Waltemeyer.

MD. MOMS CALL ON CONGRESS TO PASS TOUGHER GUN CONTROL

WASHINGTON – Touting a report showing 44 school shootings nationally in the past 14 months, Maryland moms joined others on Capitol Hill Wednesday morning urging lawmakers to take action on gun control.

The event, sponsored by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, featured an analysis of school shootings since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in 2012.

The report documented 28 deaths and 37 non-fatal injuries in school shootings since Sandy Hook.

It also said that in the first six weeks of 2014 alone there were 13 school shootings, including one eight-day period in which there were four shootings in K-12 schools.

Afghanistan Releases 65 'Dangerous' Prisoners Despite American Protest

The Afghan government has released 65 detainees from a former American prison despite protests from the U.S. military over concerns the "dangerous" fighters will return to the battlefield to kill coalition and Afghan forces.

Maj. Nimatullah Khaki, a spokesman for the Parwan Detention Facility at Bagram Air Base, said all 65 were freed on Thursday morning. He said they were laughing and smiling as they boarded a bus to leave the facility.

President Hamid Karzai ordered their release several weeks ago from prison facility, drawing angry denunciations from the U.S. and straining relations between the two countries ahead of the year-end withdrawal of most international combat troops.

A LETTER TO THE EDITOR 2-13-14

Theft noun \’theft\ (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

The act or crime of stealing

The act of stealing; specifically : the felonious taking and removing of property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it

An unlawful taking (as by embezzlement or burglary) of property

What is going on in Wicomico County and the rest of America?

I read the paper every day and a week doesn’t go by without reading about someone stealing money from a non-profit or business for their own gain. In all circumstances, these people have been put in a position of trust to monitor the funds for their organizations; then turn around and commit theft/larceny. In most cases, they face the possibility of years in prison and a large fine.

Yet they go ahead with the crime knowing they might avoid detection for a few years, but if caught, a good attorney and a promise of partial reimbursement to the victim will keep them from serving any jail time. In many cases, the legal system goes for a lesser charge to ensure a more solid case.

I personally believe that the guilty individual is not concerned how this effects the organization or the people who may rely on the services of the organization. They seem to be on a “power trip” thinking they can deceive everyone. SHAME ON THEM!!

I am passionate about this, as this recently happened to the organization for which I have worked for over 34 years located in Salisbury, Md. This organization has treated me well and I have given over 100% of myself to them and hold them close to me. My Mother and Father would expect nothing less nor taught me any different. They instilled a sense of pride in me and a work ethic to always do my best, a work ethic I still use today.

When something like this happens in your work place, and the individual was a trusted co-worker, it is like someone has hit you in the chest…disbelief overwhelms you. Then the police department shows you the evidence they have collected and you still shake your head. You question, how could someone you thought you could trust do something that would hurt so many people and then you begin to take it personally and your hurt and disbelief turns into anger.

In my case, the person was convicted of theft $1,000 to under $10,000 and sentenced to 5 years. All time to serve was suspended. 2 years’ probation, 100 hours of community service and restitution of under $5,000 is what was ordered. This “trusted employee” had worked for this organization for 27 years. “Had” being an important word, because they did lose their job, but the betrayal they left behind was overwhelming.

Someone asked me if I would forgive this person. Being a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a Christian, I will in time, but the betrayal is still very raw and the trust that has been shattered will slow my healing.

SHAME ON YOU FOR WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR FELLOW CO-WORKERS AND FRIENDS.

Salisbury Rain Tax Must Be Reconsidered By City Council

Mayor Jim Ireton stated more than 5 years ago, elect me and I'll make it so everyone can swim in the Wicomico River in 10 years. Well Folks, it's been almost 6 years, how's it working for you?

Let me drift for just a moment and I'll get back to the main topic in just a second. A Mayor is like a CEO of a major corporation. Your Council Members are the board members who protect the best interest of the investors, (taxpayers) of that corporation.

When a Mayor comes forward and says, in the best interest or the Chesapeake Bay, I want to VOLUNTEER $24,000,000.00 a year from our fair City and guess what, it will only cost you $20.00 a year to make that happen, do you believe him?

REALLY, $20.00 a year Jim? OK Folks, there are 8,000 residences in the City of Salisbury. At $20.00 a YEAR, that comes to $160,000.00 a year, TOTAL! That's $23,840,000.00 SHY of what Ireton is proposing to GIVE Governor O'Malley.

Remember now, O'Malley is NOT asking the City of Salisbury to participate, Jim is volunteering this money.

Now, your City Council, (Board Members) are supposed to be PROTECTING us from such fraudulent proposals. Unless, that is, IF Jim Ireton is expecting to force BUSINESSES to come up with the $23,840,000.00 SHORTFALL? Now let's see. These businesses have already paid IMPACT FEES as well as STORM WATER MANAGEMENT. Do YOU think it would be FAIR to impact Salisbury businesses for that shortfall, especially after they already paid up front to help protect the Bay?

Here's my question to all of you, as well as those Council Members representing us. Over the last 20 years, hasn't the grade of the Chesapeake Bay Restoration been a FAILING GRADE? How's it working for us?

Now, as stated earlier, our Council is here to PROTECT us. If YOU were Mayor and O'Malley came to you and said, I want you to invest $24,000,000.00 into our Chesapeake Bay Foundation and you knew it received failing grades, would YOU just give him the money?

OK, let me try it this way then. Change everything back to CEO and Board Members of a major corporation. If Governor O'Malley came to you as a corporation and asked you to INVEST $24,000,000.00 into the Chesapeake Bay and he told you that you'd get a great return on your investment, (knowing it has received a failing grade for 20 years) would you make such an investment in the best interest of your INVESTORS? Hell No, you wouldn't.

Salisbury and Wicomico County are as close to the Bay and Ocean as your pretty much going to get in the state. WE are NOT polluting the Bay. In fact, the Bay is cleaner here on the Shore than anywhere else in the state. Yes, we do have issues with the WWTP and pollution in the Bay but you have to realize, our water does NOT flow backwards into Annapolis, Baltimore and so forth. Their water flows down to US. Our Bay pollution is coming from Pennsylvania and so forth, yet THEY are not regulated. We can try to clean the Bay all we want, until we as a state stop others from up north from polluting into the Bay, it will never get clean.

So when the Mayor tells you it's only $20.00 a year, yet there is a massive shortfall in his FIGURES, know right here and now that this is just the very beginning of a massive commitment and that rate WILL OBVIOUSLY GO UP.

Do NOT let your Legislators screw you into believing it will only be $20.00. Remember, $24,000,000.00 vs. $160,000.00. Where's that $23,840,000.00 shortfall going to come from!

Jimmy, you can't even clean the RIVER. Enough of this BS.

Some Western Md. Residents Want To Form Their Own State

WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ) — A tale of two Marylands: Western Maryland and the rest of the state. Fed up with high taxes and gun control, some people want to break away and go it alone.

Mary Bubala explains why they’re trying to form their own state.

There’s a storm brewing over the beautiful mountains and valleys of Western Maryland. More and more people in those five counties say Governor Martin O’Malley is out of touch and they want to break away from the rest of the state.

“I can’t imagine Maryland without Western Maryland,” said Governor Martin O’Malley.

Former Mayor Barrie Tilghman Says Family Members Are Off Limits To The Press

As many of you know, I have many photos I could have chosen from for this particular Post but I want to send a message to Barrie Tilghman in a professional way so as she will listen to what I'm about to say in a respectful way.

Yesterday the Daily Times did two articles in their Voices Section. Kind of a point, counter point you might say. Barrie Tilghman basically stated she felt Family Members should be off limits to the Press/Bloggers.

Barrie, with all due respect, you are way off base here. Your idle threat in your message will never scare me and to suggest legislation is actually starting to rule in your favor is simply hogwash.

Let's start by going back to the day the image above was taken. In that Press Conference where you felt the need to expose my personal e-mail to you in which I stated you are a waste of good sperm, you went on to say that your Son is a responsible journalist.

Right there you opened ALL press up to discussion about your Son. For the record, I did not publish anything about her Son, nor will I mention his name now.

Then came the time when I mentioned your Husband and his involvement in being a partner in the land that now houses the Walmart in Fruitland. That is public information and the public has the right to know.

Finally there was your Daughter who got into a physical altercation with a Council Member immediately following a Council Meeting on the GOB property. There was a Court Hearing on that matter and even the Daily Times brought it up in their paper.

My suggestion to you Barrie is, don't bring up your Family Members to the Press and I'm sure they/we will certainly NOT bring them up.

Now, why the Daily Times chose you, (of all people) to participate in this point, counter point discussion is beyond me, unless they were simply using you to get a reaction from their readers.

However, I can assure you that our Legislators are working hard in Annapolis as we speak to further PROTECT Bloggers from being sued by people like you, (as you did to me and lost).

One has to wonder why you are all of a sudden trying to get back into the public eye and or why you would make such statements in the Daily Times. Could it be your preparing to make a run for County Executive or political office and you are trying to scare Bloggers from bringing up you and your Families past? Time will tell.

I'll simply say this. Salisbury News is here to stay. We provide a much needed service to the Eastern Shore and we feel it is our job to provide a platform for BOTH sides and not ONE side, like the Daily Times.

In closing, I wish you the very best. While we do not see eye to eye politically, you did serve the public for quite a few years and I respect you for that. I hope you and your Family remain retired and enjoy a wonderful life away from politics. Your skin simply isn't thick enough.

Study: Fatal Car Crashes Involving Marijuana Have Tripled

According to a recent study, fatal car crashes involving pot use have tripled in the U.S.

“Currently, one of nine drivers involved in fatal crashes would test positive for marijuana,” Dr. Guohua Li, director of the Center for Injury Epidemiology and Prevention at Columbia, and co-author of the study told HealthDay News.

Researchers from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health gathered data from six states – California, Hawaii, Illinois, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and West Virginia – that perform toxicology tests on drivers involved in fatal car accidents. This data included over 23,500 drivers that died within one hour of a crash between 1999 and 2010.

APPROACHING IRANIAN WARSHIPS RAISE EMP THREAT

WASHINGTON – National security experts have expressed alarm over the announcement by Iran that it will position its warships off the coast of the United States, from where they could launch a nuclear warhead to explode at high altitude to create an electromagnetic pulse.

That could knock the American electrical grid out of commission, disrupting supplies of energy, food, communications, fuel and more for a long period.

These experts agree that there would be no warning and that the U.S. missile defense system would not be able to respond in time to prevent the high altitude nuclear explosion. They also believe that if such a missile were launched, it would not be from an Iranian warship but from a commercial vessel sailing along the East Coast or in the Gulf of Mexico.

NFL Faces Pressure From Congress To Change Redskins’ Name

Two members of Congress have written a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell urging Goodell and the league “to take a formal position in support of a name change” by the Washington Redskins.

The letter by Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) is to be sent Monday to Goodell.

“The NFL can no longer ignore this and perpetuate the use of this name as anything but what it is: a racial slur,” Cantwell and Cole write in the letter. “It is clear that you haven’t heard the leading voices of this country — and not just Indian Country. Virtually every major civil rights organization in America has spoken out in opposition to this name including the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, the Rainbow Coalition and the League of United Latin American Citizens.”

ALL CHILDREN SHOULD BE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY BASEBALL

There's no question about it, America, (especially the Eastern Shore) is in a depression. Heck, just trying to keep a roof over your head and a job is quite a task any more these days for most.

Saturday was sign up day for Little League and in Delmar the cost of signing your child up is now $80.00 per child.

The cost of having a child get involved in a very important part of American history and possibly deliver the next Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth and other greats is just out of reach any more.

Why would ANY child be socially denied because their parents can't afford to sign their child up. Because one of their parents didn't pay child support or lost their job. What has America come to any more.

This is NOT a knock on Delmar. This is happening all across America. ALL CHILDREN SHOULD BE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY!

So what can we do as communities to change this. I'm sure many of you would agree, get these kids off the computers and out exercising and playing ball if they want to.

Bake Sales at local Fire Departments, fundraisers, what can I/we do to help? I make an incredible cake, so I'm told. I'm sure we could get Doug Marshall or Pete Richardson to get involved and help auction off some baked goods.

Let's do something RIGHT for these kids and ALL come together and help these kids out. Each Town can do their own thing but I want to make sure every single kid who wants to play ball gets to play ball, period. How about you?

Black Residents Reject Trader Joe’s Because It Would Attract Too Many White People

The Trader Joe’s grocery chain has withdrawn plans to build a store in the heart of a predominantly black neighborhood after a black leadership group fought the move.

The Portland Development Commission was set to give the grocer a large discount on property that had been vacant for years, pricing it at just over $500,000, down from an appraised value of $2.9 million, according to The Oregonian.

The Portland African American Leadership Forum sent a scathing letter in December to city leaders, saying the plan would price residents out of the area and the group“remains opposed to any development in North/Northeast Portland that does not primarily benefit the black community.”

Trader Joe’s would increase displacement of low-income residents and “increase the desirability of the neighborhood,” for “non-oppressed populations,” PAALF wrote.

‘Coward Of An Attorney General’: Murdered Border Patrol Agent’s Brother Shames Holder

The brother of the Border Patrol agent who died during a gunfight with smugglers armed with weapons that were part of the botched Fast and Furious “gun-walking” operation has written a scathing letter to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding to know when someone will answer for Brian Terry’s blood.

In the letter excerpted by Breitbart.com, Kent Terry is clearly frustrated that after more than four years Holder remains unable – or unwilling – to hold anyone in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms responsible for his brother’s death.

“It is shocking to know that the Attorney General of the United States had no knowledge or was not made aware of Fast and Furious until after the death of my brother, Brian Terry,” Terry writes.
