Conservatives care about logic. Liberals care about emotion. Conservatives care about whether a program works or not. Liberals care about how supporting a program makes them feel. Conservatives take the positions they do because they believe they’re best for society. Liberals take the positions they do because they make them feel and look compassionate or superior to hold those positions.
Once you understand those basics, it’s very easy to see why both sides hold the positions they do on most issues and to comprehend why there’s so little middle ground. Once you get the mentalities, you can predict where each side will come down on issues.
An extremely expensive program designed to help disadvantaged minority children read better that has been proven not to work? Liberals will support it and conservatives will oppose.
A program that cuts the deficit by cutting people off the welfare and disability rolls who don’t belong there in the first place? Conservatives will support it and liberals will oppose.
A program called “Puppies for Orphans” that hands out “therapy dogs” to poor children at $100,000 per year in cost? Liberals will support it and conservatives will oppose.
The problem with all of this is that most of what passes for “compassion” with liberals isn’t real compassion. There’s a cost to real compassion and thus, a limit to it.
Once again, you can read it all here.

Hazardous Weather Alerts: NOAA Weather Radios
Federal, State, and Local Officials Stress Importance of NOAA Weather Radios
Buying a National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather radio could be a wise and affordable investment in a family's safety if severe weather threatens.
During life-threatening weather conditions, NOAA Weather Radios send out a special alarm tone to signal a watch or warning alerting listeners to take appropriate safety measures. The signal transmits anytime day or night, even if a family is not listening to the broadcast. Early warning is critical because weather can quickly turn deadly.
NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information directly from the nearest National Weather Service office. NWR broadcasts official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, seven days a week providing comprehensive weather and emergency information.
In conjunction with federal, state, and local emergency managers and other public officials, NWR also broadcasts warnings and post-event information for all types of hazards - including natural events, such as tornados, hurricanes, or earthquakes; environmental events, such as chemical releases or oil spills; and public safety warnings, such as AMBER alerts. These all-hazards radios are equipped with various features including a choice of voice, siren or tone alert, full alarm clock display, emergency power back-up, seven NOAA channels, and Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) localized reception. With SAME technology, a radio can be programmed to sound an alert for specific counties.

Islamic State Threatens Terror Attacks in U.S., Europe
The Islamic State is urging jihadists in the United States and Europe to carry out terror attacks during what a group spokesman promised would be “the month of conquest and jihad.”
A U.S. government advisory warned that ISIS attacks, either directly sponsored or simply inspired by the group’s rhetoric, could be carried out during Islam’s month of Ramadan that begins June 5.
The threatened attacks were announced in an ISIS video made public May 21.
In the video, ISIS spokesman Abu Mohammad al-Adnani called on jihadists to “get prepared, be ready … to make it a month of calamity everywhere for nonbelievers…especially for the fighters and supporters of the caliphate in Europe and America.”
A report by the State Department-led Overseas Security Advisory Council said the threat could be credible because three deadly terror attacks took place last year shortly after Adnani issued a similar call to arms.
“According to Islamic practice, sacrifice during Ramadan can be considered more valuable than that made at other times, so a call to martyrdom during the month may hold a special allure to some,” the report said.
There is no information indicating a specific ISIS attack is being planned, although the threat of attacks remains significant, the report said.

Clinton IT aide Pagliano ordered to produce DOJ immunity agreement
A federal judge ordered the man who set up Hillary Clinton’s private email server Friday to produce the immunity agreement he had reportedly struck with the Department of Justice as part of her investigation.
According to The Hill, the judge’s order postpones Bryan Pagliano’s deposition with the watchdog group Judicial Watch indefinitely. The interview had been scheduled to take place Monday.
Pagliano planned to assert his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination and refuse to answers questions over an open records lawsuit, according to court documents obtained Wednesday by Fox News. His lawyers also asked a federal judge to block Judicial Watch from recording his deposition, stating that a written transcription should be enough.
However, Judge Emmet Sullivan declared that his lawyers need to file a legal memorandum to outline the legality for him to plead the Fifth “including requisite details pertaining to the scope of Mr. Pagliano's reported immunity agreement with the government,” The Hill reported.
Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch, called Sullivan’s order “an important step to getting more answers from Mr. Pagliano about Hillary Clinton's email system.”

In Ramadan Message, Obama Takes Swipe at Trump
President Barack Obama had a message for Muslim Americans preparing to observe the beginning of Ramadan on Sunday: He'll protect them from people like Donald Trump who threaten their religious liberties.
In an official statement, Obama said America would continue to welcome immigrants and refugees, despite “the voices that seek to divide us.”
Obama’s official statement on the start of Ramadan, a monthlong holiday observed by Muslims through fasting during daylight hours, did not mention Trump by name, but the president's remarks clearly seemed to be a swipe at the presumptive GOP nominee.
“I stand firmly with Muslim American communities in rejection of the voices that seek to divide us or limit our religious freedoms or civil rights,” the president said in the statement. “I stand committed to safeguarding the civil rights of all Americans no matter their religion or appearance. I stand in celebration of our common humanity and dedication to peace and justice for all.”
Obama said he looks forward to hosting Muslims at the White House as the month-long observation concludes in July.

Dog tethering: Lewes resident aims to break inhumane chains
GEORGETOWN – Kathy Hughes is s dog lover.
Her Lewes residence is home to three canines.
Two of them are “rescues.”
One of the rescues is Charlie,. Until his rescue, Charlie lived a life of chains and tethering.
“Charlie was left outside 24/7 for his entire life,” said Ms. Hughes. “He was so matted that he had to be shaved down to basically skin.”
Ms. Hughes showed Sussex County Council members a current photo of Charlie, no longer chained, at council’s May 24 meeting.
“He is a happy, healthy, sweet dog,” said Ms. Hughes.
In hopes of breaking the chains, Ms. Hughes says there needs to be tougher laws governing tethering.
Current state of Delaware law allows the dog to be tethered 18 out of 24 hours, chained up.
“This does not apply to properties greater than 10 acres in size so that would not apply to farms obviously. The tether must be at least 10 feet in length,” said Ms. Hughes.
“However, the law is currently unenforceable due to the inability to measure time tethered.”

Johns Hopkins Psychiatrist: Support of Transgenderism and Sex-Change Surgery Is ‘Collaborating With Madness’
Dr. Paul R. McHugh, the Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University, and former psychiatrist-in-chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital who has studied transgenderism and sex-reassignment surgery for 40 years, said the condition is a “mental illness” and to enable it is equal to “collaborating with madness.”
A transgender person is someone whose biological sex at birth is different than who they think they are sexually on the inside; for example, an anatomical male who believes he is a woman.
Sex-reassignment surgery is an operation where a person’s genitalia is changed from what it was biologically at birth; for example, a man’s penis and testes are removed and a faux-vagina is created by surgeons. The man may also receive breast implants and hormone treatments.
The gay-rights activist group Human Rights Campaign includes sexually reassigned people in its definition of transgender, as well as those who have not undergone the operation. The HRC defines “gender identity” as “one’s internal concept of self as male, female, a blend of both, or neither,” regardless of one’s anatomy and chromosomal makeup – XX female, XY male.

‘Extremist Islamist Movements’ Are Shipping Terror Suspects into Latin America
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. military is confronting an “extremist Islamist movement” in the Americas that has been linked to the use of illicit trafficking networks by criminals and terrorists, likely working together, revealed U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) chief Navy Adm. Kurt W. Tidd during a roundtable discussion with reporters.
While briefing Pentagon reporters on Wednesday, Tidd described the use of illicit networks by criminals and terrorists as the greatest security challenge facing the United States in Latin America and Caribbean, adding that more often the lines blur between the two groups as a result of their combined activities.
“We know that extremist groups are ideologically driven and want to harm the United States,” explained the admiral in SOUTHCOM’s annual posture statement, submitted to Congress earlier this year. “We know that criminal organizations are profit-driven and will engage in illicit activities that increase their bottom line.”
“We also know that both operate in the same dark underworld of illicit finance, fraudulent documents, and weapons trafficking and that violent extremist organizations have availed themselves of some of these criminally provided services,” he added.
He warned Pentagon reporters Wednesday that Islamic terrorist groups are attracted to illegal trafficking networks in Latin America.

Obama Accuses Judge of Scaring Illegals
The Obama administration accused a federal judge Tuesday of sowing “fear and confusion” among illegal immigrants, potentially scaring them away from signing up for President Obama’s deportation amnesty by demanding immigration officials submit names of tens of thousands of migrants who’ve already enrolled.
Justice Department lawyers also asked Judge Andrew S. Hanen not to force thousands of attorneys to take remedial ethics classes — an order the judge issued two weeks ago after he concluded that the administration intentionally and repeatedly misled him by implementing part of the amnesty, even as they assured the court it wasn’t in operation yet.
Judge Hanen has ruled the amnesty illegal, and issued an injunction in February 2015. But the administration repeatedly broke that order, approving thousands of three-year work permits after the fact. Lawyers admitted that more than 100,000 applications for three-year permits were approved between February and March, despite lawyers telling the judge no part of the amnesty was in operation.
The judge has ordered the administration to file a secret document with the court containing the names of illegal immigrants who live in 26 states that sued to stop the amnesty. The document is to remain under seal.

Record 94,708,000 Americans Not in Labor Force
(CNSNews.com) - A record 94,708,000 Americans were not in the labor force in May -- 664,000 more than in April -- and the labor force participation rate dropped two-tenths of a point to 62.6 percent, near its 38-year low, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday.
When President Obama took office in January 2009, 80,529,000 Americans were not participating in the labor force; since then, 14,179,000 Americans have left the workforce -- some of them retiring and some just quitting because they can't find work.
"By almost every economic measure, America is better off than when I came here at the beginning of my presidency," President Obama told the people of Elkhart, Indiana three days ago. "We cut unemployment in half, years before a lot of economists thought we would."
The unemployment rate in May dropped to 4.7 percent, BLS reported, less than half of its Obama-era high of 10 percent in October 2009.
But the labor force participation rate has deteriorated over Obama's two terms.
When Obama took office in January 2009, shortly before the recession ended, the labor force participation rate was 65.7 percent. The following month, it reached an Obama-era high of 65.8 percent, and then it began its seven-year downward spiral, hitting 62.4 percent in September 2015, its lowest point since 1977.
The 62.6 percent participation rate in May 2015 compares with 62.8 in April and 63.0 in March. (BLS noted that the rate has declined by 0.4 percentage point over the past two months, offsetting gains in the first quarter.)

Seizing On Pope's Remarks, Women Meet In Rome To Discuss Female Priesthood
All across the Mediterranean, early Christian frescoes and bas reliefs carry the names of women deacons and even bishops — such as Phoebe, Helaria, Ausonia, Euphemia and Theodora.
Yet in 1994, Pope John Paul II not only decreed that women are definitively excluded from the priesthood, he even banned all discussion of the topic.
Pope Francis broke that taboo last month when he announced he would create a commission to study whether women can serve as deacons as they did in early Christianity.
Seizing this new sign of openness, supporters of a female priesthood converged on Rome this week, to coincide with the Vatican's Jubilee for the all-male clergy.
Marinella Perroni, a theologian and New Testament scholar who teaches at a Pontifical College in Rome, was one of the participants on a panel. She recalled that John Paul's 1994 edict even urged students to report errant teachers.
"In Rome, several professors were denounced to the congregation of the doctrine of the faith," she said. "This had immediate consequences on their right to teach and it led to paralysis."

ADHD Drug May Cause Irregular Heartbeat
The use of a common drug to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and young people may slightly increase their risk of developing a heartbeat irregularity, a new study suggests.
Methylphenidate is a central nervous system stimulant used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and narcolepsy. It is sold under various trade names, Ritalin being one of the most commonly known.
The cardiac safety of stimulants, which are known to slightly raise blood pressure and accelerate the heart rate, has been hotly debated, but the evidence is conflicting.
So a team of researchers based in Australia, Canada and South Korea set out to measure the cardiac safety of methylphenidate in children and young people with ADHD.

Baltimore City Council To Consider Sweet Drink Warning Label Bill
On Tuesday, the Baltimore City Council's Health Committee holds a hearing on a bill that would require health warning labels be placed on sugar sweetened beverages sold in the city.
The bill would also require labels on restaurant menus, advertisements and in stores that sell these products.
Robi Rawl, executive director of Sugar Free Kids Maryland, says the labels would be similar to those on cigarette packets.

72nd D-Day Anniversary: All Who Serve Are a Part of the Greatest Generation
Stop your average American on the street and ask them, “What happened on June 6?” Surprisingly, a few might recall that on a dreary morning while the low tide lapped lazily on the rocky coast of Normandy, France, brave men in battle armor no thicker than a khaki shirt grimly headed toward Hitler’s Atlantic Wall.
There is nothing special to mark the 72nd anniversary of the D-Day invasion during World War II. Nothing special—other than the men themselves.
That 18-year-old struggling up the steep bluffs of Omaha Beach while tracer rounds flashed overhead would be 90 years old now, eyes flickering, still alive with the memories of that unforgettable day.
About 73,000 Americans landed on the beaches on June 6, 1944. Almost 2,500 of our boys were killed.

Tens Of Thousands Of New Oysters Planted In The Bay
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Back where they belong after starting life in a lab. Tens of thousands of new oysters have been planted in bay waters, thanks to human help.
Alex DeMetrick reports on the growth of an oyster growing program.
Last fall, oyster shells were divided up and sent home with people who promised to place them in special cages and hang them off their backyard decks to give life a new chance.
And now, nine months later, at least 200,000 new oysters! They all started life in a University of Maryland lab, but took human help to grow.
“You have a commitment when you decide to grow the oysters,” said Sue Walbridge. “And so, every week you have to dunk your oysters, you have to put them up on the dock for an hour.”

Drivers urged to watch for terrapins on roadways
SUSSEX COUNTY — Drivers are urged to use extra caution when traveling Delaware’s coastal highways through June and July as female Diamondback terrapins attempt to cross Route 1 to lay their eggs in the soft sand of the ocean dunes.
“The dune area along Route 1 in Delaware Seashore State Park is one of the state’s prime terrapin nesting areas,” said Sally Boswell, education and outreach coordinator for the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays. “Because female terrapins mature late and have a long reproductive lifespan, the loss of a single female means the loss of many years of potential offspring."
Those who encounter a turtle attempting to cross the highway should first ensure their own safety, then pick the terrapin up by the sides and place her on the bay side, behind the turtle fencing. Unlike snapping turtles, terrapins are very gentle, although she may squirm and kick her clawed feet. It is very important not to drop her.

Subject: Why All The Hippies Morphed Into Campus Fascists
How the flower people transformed our universities and colleges into the most rigid, closed-minded, repressive, unthinking sort of society.
I recall a photograph, taken in the late 1960s or early ’70s, during some sort of protest (it could have been anywhere, about pretty much anything, given the high level of unrest). A rank of soldiers stood in full combat gear, rifle barrels pointed straight up in front of their faces. They were at attention, with firm expressions, eyes forward. A slim, beautiful hippie chick faced one of the soldiers and was sliding the stem of a daisy down the barrel of his gun. She had been working her way down the rank, performing the same gesture with each soldier’s rifle, as they stood fast without reaction.
I was a member of her tribe back then: a peace-loving, pot-smoking, long-haired hippie revolutionary. I was age 17 or so, and still in high school in a small Midwestern town. It was “Revolutionary Lite,” as advertising might put it today. The photo summed up much of what we counterculture visionaries believed: Give Peace a Chance; Make Love, Not War; the Age of Aquarius. . . .
The girl’s tender, innocent gesture seemed so powerful when deployed against the intimidating might of the soldiers. She was the face of our fight against the rigidity and repression of society’s Judeo-Christian morality, looming military-industrial complex, tight-sphinctered, hawkish, unimaginative conservative leaders, and the greedy fat cats who secretly ran the whole mess while enriching themselves.
Underpinning the whole protest movement was a wholesale rejection of stifling, repressive (we thought), unthinking (we decided), pro forma middle-class morality. We intended to shake the rigid framework of establishment conformity, pull it down to rubble and lay claim to our right to unbridled self-expression and guilt-free sex. While we were at it, we would free people of color, end racism and poverty, and liberate women from the forced sexual slavery of the obsolete, patriarchal institution of marriage.
We had opened our minds to ideas our parents were incapable of grasping, too square to accept. We were going to unleash a wave of drug-fueled creativity unseen in human history, generously slathered with Harmony and Understanding, according to a song from a popular Broadway play featuring gratuitous nudity.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The 14-year-old accused of throwing a rock at officers during the riot followingDonald Trump’s Albuquerque rally has been charged with aggravated battery on a peace officer but his defense attorney says the charge is too much.

“The commander actually witnessed Marcus throw a rock directly and hit the sergeant that was standing next to him,” said APD Spokesperson Celina Espinoza.
APD says a picture of Griego was taken after the rock was thrown and that officers confronted him.
Espinoza said, “My understand is that Marcus kinda laughed it off and kinda just pretended it wasn’t a big deal.”

Subject: Immigrant Criminals Re-offend More Often Than ICE Estimates
A recent investigation by The Boston Globe revealed that 30 percent of 323 criminal immigrants released in New England from 2008-2012 went on to re-offend, a rate more than four times as high as previously suggested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
While speaking before a subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee in 2011, ICE Executive Associate Director Gary Mead saidonly 7 percent of illegal aliens released since 2009 had been re-booked into ICE custody. But The Globe review of records in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine showed recidivism was substantially higher.
The Globe investigation took three years, as staffers searched police logs, Internet databases, court records and media reports to identify which criminal immigrants had committed new crimes. A judge ordered the names of the 323 immigrants released in 2013.
Among the crimes The Globe uncovered:

German Police Arrest Migrants Plotting Major Suicide Attack
Three Syrian men have been arrested in Germany over an alleged plan to launch a suicide attack there for the Islamic State jihadist group, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
According to the suspects' plan, two attackers were to detonate suicide vests while the others were to kill passersby with guns and explosives in the western city of Dusseldorf, prosecutors said in a statement.
The suspects were identified as 27-year-old Hamza C., 25-year-old Mahood B., and Abd Arahman A. K., 31, who were arrested in the states of Brandenburg near Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Wurttemberg.
A fourth Syrian man, Saleh A., 25, had been in custody in France since turning himself in in February, they said, and Germany had now requested his extradition.
"According to current investigations, the four accused were planning to commit an attack in Germany for the foreign terrorist organisation Islamic State," said the prosecutors.
Saleh A. and Hamza C. had joined ISIS in early 2014 in Syria, where "they were ordered by the group's leadership to carry out an attack in the old town of Dusseldorf."
"Two suicide attackers were to set off their explosives vests at the Heinrich-Heine-Allee, a major street in Duesseldorf," the prosecutors said in the statement.
"After that, other attackers were to kill as many passersby as possible with guns and other explosives."

'Paltry' Jobs Report Exposes Obama's Liberal Failures
This is a very good summary of the state of the economy, by University of Maryland economist Peter Morici. It makes a lie of the recent Obama victory laps on his great economic achievements. One point Morici does not make is the disturbing Labor Force Participation rate, which at 62.6% is the lowest since the Carter years. An all-time high of 94.7 million Americans are not participating in the US labor force. Many have given up looking for work and a growing number are trapped on government largess. It would be good if every voter had these facts.
To listen to President Barack Obama, Americans live in a liberal paradise: a robust economy, 75 consecutive months of jobs growth and a government aggressively promoting social justice.
For those employed in the liberal industrial complex — media, universities and political consultants advising Democratic candidates — it’s all true.
It’s time for Hillary. How could Americans not enjoy a historic march from the worst excesses of capitalism!
Sadly, it’s not so. Family incomes are down about $1,600 on Obama’s watch, whereas they rose by $4,800 during the Reagan years. For African-American families, income losses are greater, their children trail further in school achievement, poverty is tougher to escape, and the wealth gap with whites has widened
The recent Labor Department jobs report tells the sad story why.

WBOC DESTROYED THIS WEEKENDS OCEAN CITY TRAFFIC WITH ANOTHER HUGE FORECAST MISTAKE
Once again, Dan Satterfied and WBOC's new satellite forecasts were completely wrong.
They called for rain all weekend. On Thursday they said Saturday would be perfect at the Beach but Sunday would have rain all day. Friday morning they completely changed their Saturday forecast by stating it would be raining all day Saturday and Sunday.
Because of these forecasts and their Weather App, they were dead wrong, AGAIN. As I sit here and 3:00 on Sunday writing this Post, we've had nothing but sunny skies and no rain at all. Being that people could have come to the Beach for the entire weekend and would by now be heading back home, WBOC is destroying the local economy.
Look, some of you, (especially WBOC employees) rag on me for going after their forecasts and I'd really like to know, WHY? The more WBOC drives people away, the less money Ocean City makes and the higher our taxes go up. You are not a professional if you continue to FAIL at what you do.
Yesterday morning I was in a local store and a woman was on the phone telling her friends, COME ON OUT TO OC, THE WEATHER IS PERFECT. She went on to say, the weather people got it completely wrong.
It goes to show you, you can put on a suit and tie and ACT like you know what you're doing while being a complete BS Artist. WBOC, you just cost Ocean City MILLIONS of dollars. I hope you're happy.

The Alpha Male the World Needs
More than two dozen Chinese-Americans for Trump “captains” met with the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee Friday morning at a private event next to the candidate’s Beverly Hills home.
“He was so thrilled to see us,” said Tian “Tian-Tian” Wang, the president and founder of the group devoted to the candidacy of Donald J. Trump.
“Him seeing us meant a lot to us,” he said. “We are so excited. We are going to go all the way. We are all in for Trump until he wins.”
Trump appeals to the Chinese-Americans because he was the first one to really criticize political correctness and he is a true Alpha-Male, he said.
“He’s the Alpha-Male the world wants,” he said.
“Mr. Trump hugged lot of people. He kissed a lot of people. He is like a Teddy Bear. He is a very warm person and you want to hug him,” he said.

Report lays out problems at youth facilities in Maryland
BALTIMORE (AP) — A new report done by the attorney general’s office says several youth detention facilities in Maryland lack supervision, treatment and educational opportunities for the juveniles who are incarcerated across the state.
The report describes dismal conditions at most of dozen youth facilities under review in Maryland, including maximum-security jails as well as lower-security youth centers. It says they are dangerous and lack fundamental services such as educational opportunities, mental health treatment and recreational activities.
The report is the first assessment of youth facilities in the state for the year. The Juvenile Justice Monitoring Unit releases a new report on a quarterly basis that also includes recommendations.
The report was released in May.

Media EDITED UCLA Shooter’s Religion Before Publication… Trump Was Right
So there was a suspected mass shooting on the campus of UCLA on Wednesday, which after swarms of SWAT officers scoured the campus for hours amid a collective freakout by the media, was determined to be a fairly typical impassioned murder/suicide.
The perpetrator of the terrible crime was almost immediately known to law enforcement and school officials, and if you are wondering why the media didn’t immediately rush to plaster the name and face of the alleged “white shooter” all over the news, it isn’t that hard to figure out why.
It turned out that the “white male” the media intimated was responsible for the murder was actually a decidedly non-white male of Indian or Bengali descent named Mainak Sarkar, according to RedStateWatcher.
Making matters worse for the deceptive media, they seem to have been caught in the act of attempting to cover up both the race and religion of Sarkar in an effort to make his crime fit with a political narrative by editing his Everipedia profile before publicizing his name.

Natty Boh Asking Baltimore Baseball Fans To ‘Bring Boh Back’ To The Yard
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Un-Boh-lievable! National Bohemian has taken out a full page ad in Friday’s edition of The Baltimore Sun, demanding that Natty Boh beer be served again at Camden Yards.
An Orioles tradition since 1954, Camden has been without Boh since the first home stand of the 2016 season.
There were rumors in February the beer would no longer be served at Oriole Park.

Get Politics OUT of Commencement Addresses
A graduation is a right of passage into adulthood. It's a serious occasion! The commencement address is one of the most important parts of the ceremony, second to getting handed that empty folder with the promise the real one is in the mail!
Matt Damon delivered a commencement speech at prestigious MIT over the weekend and instead of commending the graduates on their hard work and fortitude, he took the time to bash Trump. Obviously, he disrespected the graduates because he was more interested in his own politics than their accomplishments for which the graduation was supposed to be celebrating!
Matt Damon at MIT |
Going to graduation with your family and friends, only to be met with the most negative commencement speeches, preaching doom and gloom. If I were a parent or a graduate, I would get up and walk out. Screw that, as I didn't work my rear off for months (if not years) to get that black gown and stupid ill-fitting square hat. That's a moment to HONOR the students not pontificate about some ideological disagreement.
Hanoi Jane |
I find it hard to believe, after she was blacklisted by many producers who saw her as 'box office poison,' these celebrities' managers don't warn them that these rants about dangerous subjects like religion and politics, could present the kiss of death to a career. And certainly at a graduation - a somber but celebratory event, it should be forbidden.
A graduation is for the graduates and the people who supported that graduate - not a time for personal politics by celebrities or politicians. Colleges need to start taking that into account before inviting people to give a most important speech, designed to celebrate success not damn it!
How say you...
EEOC FINDS "REASONABLE CAUSE" TO BELIEVE POCOMOKE RACE DISCRIMINATION PLAINTIFFS
Plaintiffs in Pocomoke City Race Discrimination Case
Refute Defendants' Baseless Attempts to Excuse
Misconduct, Citing EEOC
Support
Washington, DC - Yesterday, the plaintiffs in race discrimination and retaliation case Savage et. al. v. Pocomoke City et. al. filed their oppositions to the defendants' opening motions, including five separate motions to dismiss the federal lawsuit. Plaintiffs are three African-American police officers formerly employed in Pocomoke City and Worcester County, Maryland, including the Pocomoke City's first Black police chief. In their filings, the plaintiffs advised the court that, after a thorough investigation, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) had found "reasonable cause" to believe that the plaintiffs' claims of discrimination and retaliation were well founded.Earlier this year, Wiley Rein LLP, the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs (WLC), and the ACLU of Maryland jointly filed suit on behalf of the plaintiffs in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, challenging a conspiracy of race discrimination and retaliation among white officials of Pocomoke City, the Worcester County Sheriff's Office, the Worcester County State's Attorney, and the Maryland State Police. The lawsuit asserted numerous causes of action on behalf of the plaintiffs based on the race-based discrimination and retaliation they endured, which are "clearly prohibited by federal and state laws as well as [the] Constitution." The asserted causes of action seek to remedy violations of the First and Fourteenth Amendments, as well as the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. The lawsuit is pending before U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz.
In the papers filed yesterday, the plaintiffs argued that the government entities overseeing the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team (CET) were joint employers of then-Detective Franklin Savage when he was subjected to repeated racial epithets, references to the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), and the lynching of African-Americans on the Eastern Shore. The plaintiffs argued that they had adequately stated these allegations and allegations of further discrimination and retaliation against Savage, former Chief Kelvin Sewell, and former Lieutenant Lynell Green. The plaintiffs also offered the court new evidence of discrimination, including a "circle of trust" posted in the CET squad room that included all six white members of the CET and excluded only Detective Savage.
