Fury As Baltimore Chief prosecutor Poses For Glamorous Vogue Photoshoot

The chief prosecutor in the Freddie Gray case has been slammed for trying to stop lawyers for the six accused police officers from talking to the media - while simultaneously appearing in Vogue.

Marilyn Mosby, the State's Attorney for Baltimore, is lauded as a 'heroine and lightning rod' in a celebrity-style profile for the famous fashion magazine.

The 2,000-word interview by writer Heidi Mitchell is accompanied by photographs taken by Annie Leibovitz, whose recent subjects include Caitlin Jenner, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.

It applauds the glamorous 35-year-old attorney as doing 'what no lead prosecutor in America had done in many turbulent months: bring swift and severe charges against police officers in the death of a black man'.

Hey Kids – It’s Time For Some Dumb Myths And Smart Facts About Slavery!

There are a lot of bad people in the American educational system who are being forced by a lot of bad people in the financial world to tell you a lot of bad facts about history that are designed to make you feel bad about yourself. This is especially true if you’re a WHITE schoolchild.

If you’re white like Uncle Jim, your teachers will try to convince you that you’re responsible—even though you’re only, what?, eight years old?—for a bunch of bad, bad things that happened a long, long time ago.
If you’re a black schoolchild, I’m sure your parents will have plenty of excuses for why your ancestors were enslaved.

But chances are that you’re white—at least for the next generation or two, those are the chances—so I’ve collected a bunch of DUMB MYTHS and SMART FACTS about slavery that you can use to clown your teachers and everyone else at school!

Black slavery in America was pretty bad, kids, but it wasn’t anything special. Throughout history, every color of the rainbow has owned slaves and been enslaved. The dictionary tells us that the root word of “slave” is “Slav,” because Slavic peoples—who are REALLY pale and white—were the primary slave population throughout the Middle Ages. And though your teachers will never tell you this, there have been long stretches of history where Africans have owned white people as slaves! How do you like THEM apples? The empire of Carthage transported white slaves to Africa. The African Moors ruled Spain for 500 years and sent white Christian slaves to Egypt. And poor, defenseless white kids—just like you!—were kidnapped by Muslims during the Children’s Crusade and sold into Egyptian slavery.

40 to 50 teens trashed Georgia Walmart

Surveillance video of a wee-hours ruckus at a Macon Wal-Mart on Sunday shows a teenager race inside flashing gang signs ahead of a mob of four dozen or so people who burst in and smashed merchandise.

The commotion, which caused an estimated $2,000 in damage, appears to have been planned.

Some in the crowd also snatched a man, apparently a shopper at the Zebulon Road store, from a motorized shopping cart and dragged him to the floor, Bibb County sheriff’s officials said Monday.

The vandals, said to number between 40 and 50, sprinted down the store’s main aisle about 1:50 a.m. Sunday, “destroying merchandise displays and items,” a sheriff’s deputy’s report of the incident noted.

Maryland's authority to protect the Chesapeake is in jeopardy

Maryland and its economy depend on a healthy Chesapeake Bay. Right now, the state is negotiating with energy company Exelon over water quality threats posed by the Conowingo Dam — and who will pay to address them. However, Congress is considering legislation that will take away Maryland's authority to negotiate and allow Exelon to stick state taxpayers with the bill to repair any water quality damage the dam causes.

Proposed federal legislation (The Hydropower Improvement act of 2015) would strip Maryland of its authority to hold hydropower dam owners accountable for water quality violations and end critical protections for fish and wildlife at hydropower dams. This federal power grab would give Maryland's authority to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), an obscure agency based in Washington, D.C. that regulates the interstate transmission of natural gas and electricity.

Smart Meters Fire, Living Hell and Bureaucratic Messes

This is the real life story about what a Smart Meter can do to your home and your life, especially when a public utility company, a state regulatory agency and insurance company are involved. Colleen, of Yardley, Pennsylvania, has been living a Faustian nightmare and feels she has been pressed to all reasonable limits all because of PECO, an Exelon company, installing a SMART METER on her house. All surnames have been deleted because there is a lawsuit involved.

Colleen contacted me with her story, asking if I could write an article about it. However, after reading it, I thought I would submit it in her trauma-stricken words, since I never could do it the justice her Smart Meter odyssey needs in every manner: morally, legally and financially.

No utility customer should have to go through with the devastatingly unknown problems Smart Meters cause: fires, explosions, problems with insurance companies, housing displacement, etc.—even some deaths due to Smart Meter fires. Nonetheless, it seems Pennsylvania state officials are turning totally deaf ears to consumer complaints about Smart Meters. One state legislator, Representative Robert Godshall, who chairs the Consumer Affairs Committee where Smart Meter Opt-out bills have been referred to, refuses to bring HB 394, HB395 and HB396 up for a vote. Apparently, too many state legislators want legal opt-outs from Smart Meters for Pennsylvanians—as other states provide.

Maryland State Parks are Popular Destinations for the July 4th Holiday Weekend

Public should anticipate potential temporary closures due to capacity limitations

Maryland State Parks are popular destinations year round, but especially so in the warmer summer months as families plan overnight camping trips, daytime visits to the water and outdoor gatherings on public lands. During holiday weekends such as the Fourth of July, many state parks will be forced to temporarily close public entrances due to capacity limitations.

Last year, Maryland State Parks hosted more than 338,000 daytime and overnight visitors during the three-day July 4th holiday weekend, with the following parks experiencing temporary closures: Assateague, Calvert Cliffs, Cunningham Falls, Greenbrier, Patapsco Valley (Avalon Area), Point Lookout, Rocky Gap, and Sandy Point state parks.

“Maryland State Parks offer affordable overnight and day excursions for families,” said Maryland Park Service Superintendent Nita Settina. “From Memorial Day through Labor Day, our parks provide outdoor recreation opportunities and lifetime memories for more than 6 million customers. In order to ensure a quality experience, families looking to spend holidays with us are encouraged to plan ahead and make reservations or call prior to leaving home.”

Once a park is closed due to space limitations, no additional visitors will be admitted. Guests may be redirected to other state parks in the area. During closures, entrance will be granted for groups with shelter rentals or guests with camping reservations. Additionally, during times of high visitation, guests should anticipate the possibility of delays due to heavy traffic at park entrances.

Park capacity limitations and the associated temporary park closures are in place to ensure the safety of all visitors, the quality of their experience, and the protection of valuable natural resources.

Drug Dealers Arrested After They had Customers Lined up for Heroin Like It Was Black Friday Sale!

42 people now face state or federal narcotics charges for their alleged roles in supplying and distributing heroin around West Grenshaw Street and Independence Boulevard in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. The arrests came after police discovered a picture taken on June 16th south of the Eisenhower Expressway corridor showing customers lined up around a corner on Chicago’s West Side in broad daylight in hopes of a getting heroin.

On Wednesday morning, police arrested the suspects and confiscated 12 firearms, $50,000 in cash, nearly a half-kilogram of heroin, and more than a half-kilogram of cocaine. They also searched several homes, three alleged stash houses, and seized two vehicles, including a 2014 Maserati GranTurismo.

Cardin Statement on 5-4 Supreme Court Decision to Limit the Effectiveness of the Clean Air Act

BALTIMORE – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the following statement upon the announcement of a narrowly divided Supreme Court decision in National Mining Association v. EPA that the Environmental Protection Agency had failed to reasonably account for the costs of instituting pollution limits when regulating power plants and other sources of toxic emissions.

“Pollution doesn’t stop at state borders. As such, Congress passed the Clean Air Act to establish a federal benchmark for clean air standards. This latest decision by the Supreme Court goes against the clear congressional intent of the Clean Air Act. The decision forNational Mining Association v. EPA is as narrow of mind as it is of majority. The Environmental Protection Agency should be able to take appropriate and necessary actions to regulate the pollutants discharged from obsolete power plants. We know without doubt that these pollutants damage public health and our environment. Ruling that the cost of compliance is more important than keeping deadly pollutants out of our air and bodies quite literally puts profits over people.

“The high court has delivered a major setback in what should be a bipartisan, nationwide fight to protect the most vulnerable among us — particularly pregnant and nursing mothers and their children – from the deadly impacts of toxic chemicals like arsenic and mercury. It is important to note that the Supreme Court did not reject that power plants are the worst industrial polluters, controlling their emissions is very feasible, or that doing so strengthens public health and our economy. Regardless of this decision, I remain committed to protecting America’s access to clean air.”

REMINDER: Governor Hogan’s Statewide Toll Rollback Takes Effect Wednesday, July 1, 2015

Marylanders to Save $2.1 Million in First Week

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Tomorrow, tolls for bridges, tunnels and roadways across the state of Maryland will be lowered for the first time in nearly 50 years as part of Governor Larry Hogan's statewide Toll-Tax Rollback Plan. On May 7, Governor Hogan delivered on his promise to roll back Maryland’s high toll rates and put money back into the pockets of hard-working Maryland families and businesses. From the Bay, Hatem and Nice bridges to the Harbor Crossings, the JFK Highway, the Intercounty Connector (ICC), and the new I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETL), Governor Hogan’s toll rollback, which takes effect tomorrow, will save Maryland citizens $270 million over the next five years. In the first week of July alone, Marylanders should save $2.1 million that they can spend on their 4thof July celebrations and summer vacations.

“We’re giving Marylanders another reason to celebrate this July 4th as we decrease toll rates across the state,” said Governor Hogan. “I was elected to roll back taxes, tolls and fees and I’m pleased to deliver on this promise by putting more than a quarter billion back into the pockets of hardworking Maryland families.”

The following toll reductions and changes are effective Wednesday, July 1, 2015:

Six predominately black Southern churches burn within a week

In the week after nine people were shot dead at Emanuel AME Church in South Carolina, six churches with predominately black congregations in five Southern states have burned. Three of the fires are being investigated as arson.

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are working with local authorities to find those who set them.

“They’re being investigated to determine who is responsible and what motives are behind them,” FBI spokesman Paul Bresson told BuzzFeed News. “I’m not sure there is any reason to link them together at this point.”

Police Officers Shoot An Unarmed Man In The Head For Asking For Their Help

The LA Times has reported that an unarmed man standing by the roadside, attempting to flag down two officers from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) by waving his arms for help, has been shot directly in the head by the officers, injuring him badly.

LAPD confirmed to reporters that the incident happened around Los Feliz Boulevard and Tica Drive south of Griffith Park. It is said when the man was taken to hospital, doctors listed his condition as critical.

According to a witness who saw the incident and filmed it, the victim had one arm wrapped in a towel while calling out, “police, police.” When exiting the patrol car, one of the officers instructed the man to “drop the gun,” although the man was unarmed. One of the officers then pulled his trigger, hitting the man in the head. Immediately after the incident happened, the witness, using the pseudonym ‘Manny’, captured and posted the incident on Twitter. ‘Manny’ also said the officer fired three bullets into the head of the man.

The Free Thought Project, said without the footage of the incident, knowing exactly what happened and knowing whether the police had justifiably shot the man, would have been difficult to determine.

In the video posted by ‘Manny’, the two officers can be seen rolling the motionless body over, revealing a massive head wound and large amounts of blood on the ground. Neither of the officers’ expressions, nor their actions, exhibited any sense of urgency or alarm. In fact, they demonstrated no sense of concern, whatsoever, for the dead or dying human being in front of them. To even further complicate the situation, they handcuffed the totally unresponsive body.

French Court Rules It Unconstitutional To Cut Anybody Off From Water!

France is on a roll. What this ruling means is that companies will have no choice but to continue serving water to households even if they cannot afford to pay their bill.

State, poultry industry take precautions against bird flu

BALTIMORE (AP) — Agriculture officials and poultry farmers in Maryland are taking extra precautions against avian influenza after outbreaks devastated flocks in other states.

The Baltimore Sun (http://bsun.md/1CEe8A3 ) reports the Maryland Department of Agriculture has banned the entry of waterfowl in fairs and shows in the state, stepped up testing requirements for poultry and met with emergency-management officials to prepare in case of an outbreak.

No cases of the avian flu have been reported in Maryland. But state officials are reaching out to commercial farmers in the state’s $1 billion poultry industry and the growing number of backyard chicken enthusiasts.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has confirmed cases of highly pathogenic avian flu in 21 states since December. The disease spreads through the animals’ saliva, feces and nasal secretions. The USDA reported this month that the outbreak in the Midwest has boosted egg and roasting turkey prices, but chicken prices are down since other countries are restricting poultry imports.

"These Colors Don't Run" Confederate Flag T-Shirt

Liberals and progressives are attacking the Confederate Flag as being a symbol of racism and slavery, and are demanding that it be removed and banned from just about everywhere they find it. At first, it makes me wonder if they even know the true history of the South and the Civil War? But on second thought, I think they do know the true history, and that's why they hate it so much.

The Confederate Flag isn't anymore a symbol of everything evil about America during the 19th Century than the U.S. Flag is. Did evils exist under the banner and protection of both flags? Yes, without a doubt. But I don't see them calling for the removal of the U.S. Flag from anywhere. (Although they don't seem to mind people burning it.)

They hate it so much because it stands for a smaller and more decentralized government, which is in direct opposition to the progressive and liberal plan for our country. This Confederate Flag T-Shirt is the perfect way to make a statement about where you stand on the issue.

If you're a rebel who takes pride in our rich Southern heritage, then please join us in standing together and saying with a loud voice, "These colors don't run. Never have. Never will."

Donald Trump Sends Mexico Brutal 4-Word Message About What Will Happen Once He Is President

On Thursday, Univision decided to remove billionaire businessman Donald Trump’s Miss Universe pageant from its lineup due to allegedly “insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants” that he made during the launch of his presidential bid.

Trump reportedly fired back by sending a letter to Univision CEO and President Randy Falco in which he included a brutal message for the entire nation of Mexico.

“Please congratulate your Mexican Government officials for having made such outstanding trade deals with the United States,” he wrote. “However, inform them that should I become President, those days are over.”

The outspoken business mogul also accused the Mexican government of pressuring Univision to get him “to stop exposing the weaknesses the U.S. has at the southern border.”

The reason Univision cancelled the Miss Universe pageant in the first place was because Trump complained about all the “rapists” and other criminals that Mexico has been allowing to cross into the United States.

Lawmaker: Congress Can Halt Same-sex 'Marriage'

'It would make Obergefell a decision that was never enforced at the federal level'

A state lawmaker with expertise in constitutional issues says there’s a strategy that would allow Congress to halt the legalization of same-sex “marriage” by the U.S. Supreme Court in its tracks.

The court’s 5-4 ruling Friday abolished all state laws limiting marriage to one man and one woman.

But Virginia Delegate Robert G. Marshall contends Congress “can immediately take action on a strategy to block the Obama administration’s implementation of the court’s decision through the use of riders to appropriations bills which will come before Congress this summer and fall.”

“Suggested by James Madison, both liberals and conservatives have successfully used this strategy to change public policy over the past 50 years,” he wrote. “This approach is constitutional. It can be set in motion within days, if not on the very day of a Supreme Court decision. … And, if pursued by defenders of real marriage, this approach will require every 2016 congressional and presidential candidate to take a position on marriage.”

Rand Paul: Government Should Get Out of the Marriage Business

While I disagree with Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage, I believe that all Americans have the right to contract.

The constitution is silent on the question of marriage because marriage has always been a local issue. Our founding fathers went to the local courthouse to be married, not to Washington, DC.

I’ve often said I don’t want my guns or my marriage registered in Washington.

Those who disagree with the recent Supreme Court ruling argue that the court should not overturn the will of legislative majorities. Those who favor the Supreme Court ruling argue that the 14th amendment protects rights from legislative majorities.

Do consenting adults have a right to contract with other consenting adults? Supporters of the Supreme Court’s decision argue yes but they argue no when it comes to economic liberties, such as contracts regarding wages.

$15 Minimum Wage Advocacy Group Posts Facebook Job Listing That Pays $12 An Hour

A simple Facebook comment exploded into a big reveal on the hypocrisy of some groups spearheading the fight for a $15 minimum wage.

“It was a paid advertisement that came through on social media,” Cody McLaughlin told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “I thought it was funny so I posted a comment.”

The advertisement was for a job opening at the advocacy group Working America. The group was looking to hire field managers to launch a grassroots effort to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. For his own amusement, McLaughlin asking if it paid $15 an hour.

“Hi Cody! Our field organizing positions start at $12.25 per hour,” Working America replied. The group did note though, “After 90 days of employment the pay increases to $15 per hour.”

Gowdy to Kerry: Turn Over Benghazi Emails Or I'll Summon You

Rep. Trey Gowdy said Sunday he'll summon Secretary of State John Kerry before his select committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks if he doesn't get the documents his panel is seeking.

The South Carolina Republican accused the State Department of holding back not only on a complete release of emails from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, but also those of nine of her 10 closest aides, for more than a year.

"I'm trying to do this the right way," Gowdy told CBS. "I'm trying to do this without the drama, just the documents. But that has not proven to be successful."

"I want to get this investigation over with and [Kerry] is the only thing standing between me and a completed investigation," said Gowdy.

Gowdy said Clinton will be called to testify "just as soon as the Department of State decides to give me the documents that I need to have a constructive conversation with her."

Renewed scrutiny of Clinton's private email use bubbled up last week after it became clear that Sidney Blumenthal, an unofficial adviser to Clinton, had given Congress 60 emails that the State Department never provided.

Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina Top Denver Conservative Summit Straw Poll

Dr. Ben Carson has caused a major upset by coming in a confident first in the Western Conservative Summit’s straw poll in Denver, Colorado this weekend.

Carson, who boomed about his anti-political credentials in his main stage speech last night, took 26 percent of the 871 votes cast, while Carly Fiorina, who also had clear support amongst conference delegates, took 23 percent.

But the biggest blow of the weekend was for Rick Santorum, who landed on just two percent of the vote despite some noteworthy support from the audience during his speech.

The results may reflect the resources that each campaign poured into the straw poll at the conference. There was clearly a more organised Carson and Fiorina presence than there were for any of the other candidates, which is reflected in the lower numbers for the Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Rick Perry, and Mike Huckabee camps.

We know that that is false. she said the emails from Sidney Blumenthal were unsolicited. We know that was false. She also said that she had a single device for convenience, we now know that she had more than a single device. So every explanation she’s offered so far is demonstrably false.”

“She had this unprecedented email arrangement with herself. Only she and her attorneys know whether or not she turned over everything.

Pentagon Building Cruise Missile Shield To Defend US Cities From Russia

The Pentagon is quietly working to set up an elaborate network of defenses to protect American cities from a barrage of Russian cruise missiles.

The plan calls for buying radars that would enable National Guard F-16 fighter jets to spot and shoot down fast and low-flying missiles. Top generals want to network those radars with sensor-laden aerostat balloons hovering over U.S. cities and with coastal warships equipped with sensors and interceptor missiles of their own.

One of those generals is Adm. William Gortney, who leads U.S. Northern Command, or NORTHCOM, and North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD. Earlier this year, Gortney submitted an “urgent need” request to put AESA radars on the F-16s that patrol the airspace around Washington. Such a request allows a project to circumvent the normal procurement process.

While no one will talk openly about the Pentagon’s overall cruise missile defense plans, much of which remain classified, senior military officials have provided clues in speeches, congressional hearings and other public forums over the past year. The statements reveal the Pentagon’s concern about advanced cruise missiles being developed by Russia.

“We’re devoting a good deal of attention to ensuring we’re properly configured against such an attack in the homeland, and we need to continue to do so,” Adm. Sandy Winnefeld, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said during a May 19 speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, in Washington.

Pediatricians on Same-Sex Marriage Ruling: ‘A Tragic Day for America’s Children’

In a statement released Friday, the president of the American College of Pediatricians said the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage will have a significantly negative impact on children in the United States.

Dr. Michelle Cretella, president of the College, said:

"This is a tragic day for America’s children. The SCOTUS has just undermined the single greatest pro-child institution in the history of mankind: the natural family. Just as it did in the joint Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton decisions, the SCOTUS has elevated and enshrined the wants of adults over the needs of children.

"Despite being certified by almost all major social science scholarly associations—indeed, in part because of this—the alleged scientific consensus that having two parents of the same sex is innocuous for child well-being is almost wholly without basis. All but a handful of the studies cited in support draw on small, non-random samples which cannot be extrapolated to the same-sex population at large. Ret. General Drops Bombshell: Obama Should Be Arrested For This ‘Treasonous Activity’

“I’m tired of the deceit, the lies..."

Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Paul E. Vallely stated recently during a radio interview that President Obama should be “arrested for treasonous activities.”

Vallely, while a guest on the Real Side radio program earlier this month, stated above anything else that Obama should be held accountable for his sympathies for the Muslim Brotherhood in particular and his actions regarding the Benghazi tragedy. The retired general said one group that should hold the president’s feet to the fire are high-ranking members of the military.

The program’s host, Joe Messina, asked whether Obama would just replace those military leaders with others who agree with him, as he has done several times in the past.

Vallely responded: “Well then we arrest him for treasonous activities.” He noted that the group he helps lead, the Citizens Commission on Benghazi, counts at least fourteen different actions the president has taken that could be considered treasonous.

Iranian Military Mastermind Vows To 'Surprise' World In Syria

Major General Qasem Soleimani, the shadowy former leader of Iran's elite Quds Force, the special operations arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IGRC), has asserted that plans being made by Damascus and Tehran in regard to the Syrian civil war will "surprise" the world.

Soleimani, who had been directly overseeing the eastern offensive on the Isis-held Iraqi city of Tikrit before it was successfully recaptured in April, is Tehran's key link between the Shia militias in Iraq and the Assad regime in Damascus.

"The world will be surprised by what we and the Syrian military leadership are preparing for the coming days," Iran's official IRNA state news agency quoted the general as saying.

The agency added that it "takes no responsibility for the information" although Syrian sources have already confirmed that thousands of Iranian and Iraqi fighters have arrived in Syria over the last month in order to strengthen the Assad regime's manpower in the face of rebel gains in Idlib province. The rebel coalition known as Jaish al Fateh captured the last town held by the regime last week.

"Around 7,000 Iranian and Iraqi fighters have arrived in Syria over the past few weeks and their first priority is the defence of the capital. The larger contingent is Iraqi," the Syrian security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP news agency.

"The goal is to reach 10,000 men to support the Syrian army and pro-government militias, firstly in Damascus, and then to retake Jisr al-Shughur because it is key to the Mediterranean coast and the Hama region," the source added.

Coulter: Cut Off All Immigration, Focus on White Voters to Win

"The entire immigration bureaucracy is corrupt; it is run by and staffed by left-wingers who hate America."

Author and political commentator Ann Coulter said there should be a 10-year freeze on immigration to the U.S. since the federal government has demonstrated it cannot enforce current law.

“There’s a law on the books that says if a country will not take a criminal back the attorney general shall, not may, shall deny visas, any visas coming from that country – that is on the books right now. Has it been enforced by Republicans or Democrats? No, it has not,” Coulter said during an interview with PJ Media.

“There’s a law on the books right now that says an immigrant who has been convicted of a crime in America who does not cooperate in being sent home, that itself is a crime, not signing the papers, not showing up when you’re supposed to, that itself is a crime punishable by 4 years in prison – that’s never enforced. It’s just not enforced.

Three times Congress has voted to build a fence and it never gets built,” she added.

According to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released 33,007 illegal immigrants with criminal records in 2013. Following these releases, 121 were charged with homicides.

Based on the research Coulter conducted, she concluded that a legal fix is not going to improve the immigration system.

“The entire thing has to be shut down. No more immigration for 10 years. We get our books in order. We assimilate the ones already here. Build a fence. Repeal anchor babies and then we start up with the pre-1970 immigration policies,” Coulter said.

“It’s not just Obama; Bush was the same way. Bush didn’t enforce it, either.

County Executive Culver Thanks Customers

In a telephone conversation this morning County Executive Bob Culver expressed his gratitude towards all of the people that supported his initial venture with the Cellar Door Tavern.

As many of you know, Bob had a successful career in the restaurant industry before becoming the County Executive. This was a hard decision but Culver wanted to make sure there was a solid divide between being an owner of a bar while being your County Executive.

Once elected Bob did sell the business to his children but many still tied his name to the business. While they did have a 15 year lease on the property, it renewed every two years and as a Family they chose to let it go as the owner of the building has several very interested prospects willing to take over the space immediately.

Culver expressed how pleased he is that there would be a very minimal impact on the Downtown economic development and is happy he was able to create business in what sat as an empty space for far too many years.

He stated, people now know the location and from what I've been told the new interested party the building owner is considering will make a fantastic and positive business for people in the County to continue to enjoy.

Culver stated he was so overwhelmed by the support he received over the past two years and hopes everyone can understand that his main concern right now is his commitment to his office as County Executive. Even though I sold the business to my children, I just couldn't commit the time to advise them and fortunately they completely understood.

American Flag Raised On Bay Island Met With Cheers; Area Resident Joined By Others In Endeavor

OCEAN CITY — A sandy spit in the Isle of Wight Bay became an unlikely site of spontaneous patriotism on Sunday afternoon when a determined Selbyville man, with the help of new friends, raised an American flag on the recently restored island.

On Sunday afternoon, Captain Glen Smith of Selbyville waded from his boat onto the Dog and Bitch Island in the Isle of Wight Bay, carrying bags of concrete, tools, a flag pole and an American flag. The Dog and Bitch Island is an historic island in the shallow coastal bays behind Ocean City recently restored during the dredging of the navigation channels in and around the resort last fall and winter.

The island existed on charts dating back to the 1930s, but had all but disappeared over the decades. When the federal Army Corps of Engineers dredged the navigation channels around the coastal bays, the resulting sand and dredge spoil had to be placed somewhere. It was ultimately decided to use the 400,000-plus cubic yards of sand to restore some of the islands in the coastal bays that had not been seen since the 1930s including the famed Dog and Bitch Island.

As a result, roughly 18,000 cubic yards of sand were pumped onto the Dog and Bitch Island. The project essentially accomplished two goals including finding a home for the material dredged from the channels while recreating historic small islands essential for migratory bird habitat and other uses. Throughout the early summer, Dog and Bitch and some of the other restored islands have become popular recreation sites for boaters, many of whom drop anchor and wade ashore on busy weekends.

Animal Poison Control Alert: Beware of Sago Palms

Every year, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) handles thousands of cases of pets eating various plants. But lately, one plant has become a growing cause of pet poisoning across the United States: the Sago Palm.

The Sago Palm (Cycas Revoluta) is a stocky, spike-leaved plant that is often used for landscaping. It is most commonly seen in Southern states, but thanks to increasing availability in gardening and big box stores nationwide, the APCC has seen a spike of more than 200% in Sago Palm toxicity cases nationwide. 50-75% of ingestion cases result in fatalities.
