14% More Love
As this Post is NOT about bashing Michael Swartz, Michael went on the record claiming Wayne Gilchrest would win the primary by 2%. I, on the other had, stated Andy would win hands down and as things stand so far, Andy beat out the incumbent by more than 14% and this seems to have truly ticked off quite a few people. It's my understanding Andy lost Wicomico County by only 24 votes. Not too shabby for an unknown going up against a 16 year veteran that, (as I keep reading) everyone loved so very much!
What many don't realize above and beyond is IF Pipkin hadn't entered so late in the game, (many Republicans knew Wayne was in deep trouble) Andy would have walked away with probably an additional 25% more votes.
I did notice Michael recently put up a Post to CYA stating that although he stated Wayne would win by 2%, he actually hoped Andy would win. OK, which is it Michael? You remind me of the guy who likes to place his bet in the Super Bowl in the last two minutes of the 4th quarter!
I stood behind the person I believed would win, period. You never once read any flip flopping from this Blog and the end result is, Andy Harris is now your 1st District Republican Congressional Candidate.
Let's make it VERY clear right here and now on the record. Andy will beat Kratovil by achieving at least 25% more votes, PERIOD! Remember, you read it here first.

BALTIMORE - A stolen city fire department ambulance was found in Virginia, a
Baltimore fire spokesman says.
The ambulance was found early Wednesday afternoon in Stafford County, spokesman
Chief Kevin Cartwright says. The ambulance was stolen from a University of
Maryland Medical Center emergency bay Wednesday about 10:30 a.m.
A Prince George's County police officer last saw the ambulance on the Capital
Beltway near Route 4 heading toward Virginia with its lights and sirens on.
A patient was taken inside and the ambulance was left unlocked. Cartwright said
policy requires the ambulance to be secured but apparently it wasn't this time.

What Was The MD-01 Race Really About?
Washington - Some press coverage of Andy Harris’ stunning ten-point victory over incumbent Representative Wayne Gilchrest in Maryland’s First Congressional District has missed the extent to which this race was about economic issues. But anyone who watched the intense volleying of television commercials and mailers over the past couple of weeks knows that other issues were not mentioned as often, with each candidate trying to claim the mantle of fiscal conservatism.
Out of the thousands of television spots run over the course of the MD-01 race, only one television commercial mentioned the Iraq war, and that was in passing. Most of the other ads talked about taxes and government spending. The same is true for the many mailers sent out during the course of the campaign. The Club for Growth PAC, as always, also focused on economic issues, contrasting the candidates’ records on taxes, spending, and property rights with hundreds of thousands of dollars in TV ads. Consider the following list of television commercials run in MD-01:
*Costs are estimated
To be sure, Gilchrest’s anti-war vote played some role in voters’ decisions, as did other issues. Andy Harris ran as an across-the-board conservative and stood in stark contrast to Gilchrest’s liberal record on economic, social, and foreign policy issues, but the focus of his message was rooted in economic conservative values, like lower taxes, less government, and greater economic freedom. Wayne Gilchrest countered by trying to portray himself as an economic conservative, but was unable to make the sale convincingly.
“It is clear from both the message content in this campaign and Andy Harris’ victory that economic conservatism is alive and well and a dominant issue in Republican primaries,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “The single most powerful message among Republican voters is a message of limited government, economic freedom, and free enterprise. That was the message that carried Andy Harris to victory last night and it is the same message that will help Republicans win across the country.”

A Formal Apology
At 4:03 this morning I wrote a post that I shouldn’t have. The post, “Dear Greg Bassett” was a bit over the top. For this I apologize.
I had just come home from the Andy Harris victory celebration and I was a little too much “in the moment”. Again I want to apologize to Greg Bassett, Cathy Bassett, Congressman Gilchrest, and all of his fine supporters in the First District.
My remarks towards Cathy Bassett were totally out line. As I have no relationship with Andy Harris other than that of a supporter, any conjecture about Cathy’s future employment prospects (assuming that Andy wins in November AND that Cathy would wish to continue in her current position) was simply that – conjecture.
I have had my quarrels with the “Daily Times” in the past. I have been upset over things said about my Wife, my In-Laws, and me. That said, I was totally wrong behaving in a way which I didn’t appreciate as the recipient. At some point my differences with Mr. Bassett and with the “Daily Times” must end. While we may not agree we need to, at least, behave civilly towards each other.
I was reminded this morning that graciousness in victory is a virtue. I wasn’t very virtuous this morning and I apologize.

Dear Greg Bassett,
I know this is a horrible photo but being out of focus isn't such a bad thing in this case.
Above is a photo of Michael Swartz and Cathy Bassett, (Greg Bassett's Wife) who USED to work for Wayne Gilchrest and will now be looking for a new job.
I have nothing against Cathy Bassett. I just find it IRONIC that The Daily Times plugged Wayne Gilchrest all over the place, especially this past Sunday and while The Daily Times would like to impress upon their readers that they are the know it all of politics, THERE'S A NEW GUY ON THE BLOCK GREG, we're SALISBURY NEWS!
Joe G better start kissing some a$$ on the Harris Campaign as well as Joe has not been to kind to them as well. The Daily Times was wrong and Salisbury News was right. I guess it's obvious I keep better company, eh Greg. Does everyone wonder if The Daily Times would be stuped enough to support Barrie Tilghman for Mayor the next go around?
You see Ladies & Gentlemen, it's all about the money. Salisbury News can't be bought!
Senator Andy Harris Wins Primary Race
It's Official Ladies & Gentlemen! Andy Harris is one step closer to becoming your next 1st District Congressman.
It has been said time and time again, it's almost impossible to beat out an incumbent. I was told the odds were 99.5% against Andy Harris. Wayne Gilchrest is a wonderful man and has served our United States better than most men and women have. However, today has proven that the 1st District Voters want a change and they believe Andy Harris is the man that can bring us what we want and need.
I've been working with Andy for some 9 months now and it truly has been an honor and a pleasure to give my 100% support towards his Campaign. This evening I went to Kent Island where the Harris Campaign was holding their Victory Party. The Pipkin Campaign was in the building right next door but left the building quite early. E.J. Pipkin is also a fine man who fought hard to win and will continue to serve the U.S. Senate and with any hope he'll deliver in the Senate everything he campaigned about issue wise.
When I arrived it was announced that the polls were going to be left open another 90 minutes and Andy said, let's get out to the Polls and get some more votes. And that's exactly what we did. We headed over to a local Elementary School in the freezing cold and shook hands with quite a few people still coming in to vote.
It turns out a tractor trailer wrecked on the Kent Narrows Bridge and close all traffic for 4 hours! People were delighted they still had the chance to vote, so my hat is tipped to the Judge who made the decision to hold the polls open longer.
In one of the photos above you can see where Andy was reading the results from the electronic polling booths and he had won this area by quite a bit, so we were off to a positive start.
When we returned to the party, in walked Former Governor Erlich and his beautiful Bride. The atmosphere was so positive, there wasn't any doubt in any one's mind that Andy wasn't going to win. It just seemed to be a sure shot.
In the end, once the numbers started rolling in, the place just started going nuts. The guy who beat out an incumbent for Senate, the guy who was fighting the 99.5% odds of losing was actually winning! I'm told Andy won by more than 4,000 votes! Ladies & Gentlemen, that's unbelievable!
The numbers will be more accurate in the morning but we're talking about a 8 to 10% victory margin!
Nevertheless, congratulations to Andy Harris but more importantly, congratulations 1st District Voters. It's time to end illegals getting ANY kind of photo ID! It's time to cut taxes and do what's right for the people voting Andy into Office.
I don't know about all of you but as far as I see it, Andy is a sure shot to with the General Election as well. Heck, I can't even tell you at this time who won the Democratic side? My guess would be Kratovill, I'll check in a few hours. It's late and I need to get some rest.
Andy HarrIs Win In MD-01 Is A Victory For Maryland Taxpayers
Washington – Tonight, the Club for Growth PAC’s endorsed candidate, State Senator Andy Harris, won the Republican primary in Maryland’s First Congressional District against incumbent Congressman Wayne Gilchrest.
Andy Harris campaigned on a message of economic conservatism, calling for lower taxes, an end to wasteful government spending, and greater economic freedom. With a solid victory over Wayne Gilchrest, it is clear that Harris’ strong record of standing up for taxpayers in Maryland’s State Legislature and his message on the campaign trail resonated with Republican voters. Voters refused to settle for pork barrel spending and higher taxes when they had a taxpayer hero like Andy Harris to vote for.
“We extend a hearty congratulations to Andy Harris and are confident he will win the general election in November,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “It is clear from tonight's victory that voters want their representatives to stand up and fight for limited government and economic freedom. In Andy Harris, Maryland Republicans have found such a person.”

With 82 percent of the precincts reporting, Harris has a strong lead with 42 percent of the vote. Gilchrest follows with 33 percent of the vote. State Senator E.J. Pipkin comes in at 21 percent. Joe Arminio and Robert Banks each have two percent.

Returns Still Out, Prospects Look Good!
Still waiting for all of the returns in tonight's GOP Primary.
McCain appears to have won every county except for possibly Washington County.
First District Race appears to be Harris by a larger than expected margin. Shore counties are relatively close with big margins for Harris in Baltimore and Anne Arundel. No numbers on Harford yet.
Pipkin only manages small victory in Queen Anne's.
