His extensive injuries included a broken leg and fractures to his face and skull after the random attack by Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, the New York Post reported.

Dockless in Dallas

At the height of the dockless bike craze a couple of years ago, the streets of Dallas were filled with 18,000 of the rental bicycles, making that city the center of a fast-growing trend in the United States. The bike rental companies, flush with venture capital money, saw Dallas as a testing ground for a new mobility option. Dallas officials encouraged deployment of the bikes by choosing not to regulate them when they were first introduced. They imposed rules only after residents complained about the proliferation of bikes and all the inconvenient places people were leaving them.

Now, though, the dockless bike services are all gone. Uber, which operates the e-bike service Jump, announced in June it would be leaving Dallas, giving few details about its rationale even as it continued to offer Jump bikes in other places. Uber had been the last dockless bike operator in the city. The company said it would continue to offer scooters for Dallas residents who wanted them.

The demise of dockless bikes in Dallas is a mixed bag for cycling advocates there. While all the companies eventually withdrew, they demonstrated a pent-up demand for cycling and other alternative forms of mobility and exposed the city’s lack of infrastructure capable of handling new modes of transportation.

CURL: ‘Facts’ Are Dead In Today’s Political World, Replaced By Personal ‘Truth’

Do “facts” exist anymore? Or are we all living in alternative realities, where we everyone has their own set of facts?

It sounds silly, but it’s all too real.

Just days after President Trump moved into the White House in 2017, top aide Kellyanne Conway kicked off the whole game. During a “Meet the Press” appearance, she was asked about the size of the crowd at the inauguration — yes, that was an actual news story — and she said then-press secretary Sean Spicer “gave alternative facts” to dispute claims that there was a paltry crowd.

In a fantastic twist you couldn’t have made up, “journalist” Dan Rather blasted Conway (yes, the guy who used “alternative facts” when he claimed former President George W. Bush never served in the Texas Air National Guard and got booted from his CBS News anchor chair).

The Left Has a $500 Million Dark Money ‘ATM Machine’ Called Arabella

A largely unknown, massively funded strategy company pushing the interests of wealthy leftist donors has been quietly behind a hydra-like dark money network of pop-up groups designed to look like grassroots activist organizations. These front groups push everything from opposition to President Trump’s proposed border wall to support for Obamacare to gun control to government control of the Internet to pro-abortion activism and other leftwing causes.

The secretive Arabella Advisors may be one of the most impactful and sophisticated leftist funding outfits that you never heard of, a centralized hub that runs nonprofit arms that in turn have spawned a nexus of hundreds of front organizations outwardly designed to appear grassroots but that evidence the common theme of more government control in the lives of Americans.

Arabella’s vast network was unmasked in an extensive exposé by conservative watchdog Capital Research Center, which documents the shadowy system developed by, housed in, and staffed by the for-profit, privately held Arabella Advisors.

Are we supposed to believe this story about an underground abortion railroad?

Over the weekend, NBC News ran with a story that the National Abortion Federation has been pitching to journalists for weeks — that abortion advocates are raising money to help transport and house women who want the procedure, given the passage of stricter abortion laws in various states.

I feel like I have to write something, not because of my own pro-life views, and not because I don't think such arrangements might exist, but because I just don't believe this story.

For example, here's the lede:
It was a warm June afternoon when Judith Plaskow got the email reminding her of a guest arriving soon.

The woman staying at Plaskow's Washington Heights apartment was a stranger who needed to be picked up at the Port Authority bus terminal on Manhattan's West Side. She was young — just 19 — and had never been to New York City before. Plaskow guessed she'd be scared.

The woman wasn't coming to the big city for thrills or fun. There'd be no Broadway show, no visit to the Empire State building. She was making a 10-hour trip to receive safe, legal abortion care — because where she is from, it is not possible to get it.

Subsidized frog mating, Pakistani film production: Rand Paul reveals $50B in taxpayer dollars wasted

The federal government is an excellent steward of taxpayer money — that is, if you think taxpayers ought to be paying for the study of frog mating calls, or film productions in Pakistan.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is a longtime critic of government waste, and he’s out with his latest edition of The Waste Report. An annual practice, the libertarian-leaning senator compiles the most outrageous examples of the federal government spending our tax dollars irresponsibly, and highlights them to illustrate a broader point. We should all thank Paul for his efforts: It’s long past time we call attention to government misspending and waste that’s become the norm in Washington, D.C.

Mark Levin: 'The NRA Doesn't Kill People. That's Planned Parenthood!'

On his radio show yesterday, conservative talker Mark Levin crushed the Democratic candidates for president who want to take away Americans' guns. He first played audio of Beto O'Rourke, Joe Biden, and Elizabeth Warren, who can be heard saying that guns pose a major threat to America's safety. And then? Well, then Mark Levin did what Mark Levin does best: destroyed them all.

First up is Beto O'Rourke, the Irish-Texan with the inexplicably Hispanic sounding name. O'Rourke can be heard saying that he wants to take away Americans' semi-automatic firearms. If elected president, "that's exactly what we're going to do," he added, after which he goes on the need to protect Americans from mass shootings in churches, synagogues, and malls.

"No amount of logic and facts will change an emotional appeal like this," Levin responded. The vast majority of people who are murdered in this country are murdered with pistols, not AR15s and not AK47s. They're murdered with pistols. Pistols."

Massive drop in border crossings since crisis peaked in May: Internal documents

The number of people arrested for illegally crossing into the U.S. from Mexico dropped for a third month in a row in August, down 62% from the May peak of 132,870 apprehensions, according to government documents reviewed by the Washington Examiner.
A total of 50,693 people were taken into custody at the southwest border during August, the lowest tally since January, when the number rose drastically as tens of thousands of families began arriving each month. U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the parent agency to Border Patrol, is expected to announce the August numbers late this week or early next week.
The apprehensions include asylum-seeking families who surrendered to agents as well as others who tried to evade capture but were arrested in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. The number is now more on trend with the average number of people brought in per month over the past five years.

Maryland Eastern Shore, St. Mary’s County Under Tropical Storm Warning

Governor Hogan Urges Residents to Remain Vigilant and Prepare for Strong Winds, Flooding

REISTERSTOWN, Md. (September 5, 2019) — The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Dorchester, St. Mary’s, Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester counties as Hurricane Dorian continues its track up the Atlantic coast. Current forecasts indicate that tropical storm force winds are expected for the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland and St. Mary’s County, as well as adjacent waters.
“With Hurricane Dorian expected to affect the Lower Shore and St. Mary’s County, I have directed state agencies to stand ready to respond and I urge Marylanders to take all appropriate precautions,” said Governor Hogan. “Please stay tuned to your local news stations and emergency management offices for the latest updates and, most importantly, use common sense.”
The Maryland Emergency Management Agency has increased the State’s activation level and the State Emergency Operations Center is staffed with emergency management personnel and state agency representatives.
“Residents should remain alert and follow officials’ orders, news stations, and weather forecasts in order to be informed of the situation,” said MEMA’s Executive Director Russell Strickland. “This is also a good opportunity for all Marylanders and visitors to our State to visit www.KnowYourZoneMD.com to see if they reside or are traveling in a hurricane evacuation zone,” he added.
Tropical storm conditions (sustained winds of 39 to 73 mph) are expected within the tropical storm warning area within 36 hours. MEMA advises the public to follow these instructions:
  • Remain vigilant and continue to closely monitor the storm through MEMA, the NWS, and your local officials.
  • If you are in or close to the tropical storm warning areas check regularly for weather updates and instructions from local officials.
  • Charge phones and devices, and plan for potential power outages.
  • Communicate with friends, family, & neighbors before, during, and after storms, especially during power outages.
  • Head to a safe part of your home. Stay away from windows in case of flying glass.
  • Never operate power generators inside a building, including garages.
  • Keep your refrigerator cold. Turn your refrigerator to the coldest setting so that your food will last longer if the power goes out.
  • Keep your pets safe too.
    • Make sure your pet has identification and that you keep your pet near.
    • If you evacuate and you have a pet, look for pet-friendly hotels or local animal shelters or safe kennels.
  • Never drive through standing water. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

The Firearms of the American Founders' Era

The Framers of the U.S. Constitution lived in a generation that saw more advancements for firearms than any other, arguably even more than the era of WWII. They understood the importance of a well armed civilian population being "necessary to the free state," often pointing out themselves that a tyrant has never been able to take over an armed population. Their Pennsylvania rifles were supreme to the British Brown Bess muskets, and that is what secured our independence and the birth of America.

Pretending that these very intelligent men could never foresee the invention of the AR-15 (or similar weaponry) is ignorant.

These five weapon types held the technology and laid the foundation for the modern firearms we see today. Each was conceived and used before the Second Amendment was ratified in 1791.

Walmart Discontinues Auto Part Sales To Prevent Car Accidents

BENTONVILLE, AR—In a bold move intended to curb the thousands of deaths from vehicles each and every day, Walmart has decided to stop selling auto parts, sources confirmed Tuesday.

According to shocking reports, people have purchased car parts at Walmart and then those cars have been involved in accidents, proving a direct correlation between selling auto parts and causing deaths.

"We can no longer be complicit in an industry that kills over 3,000 people a day," said a spokesperson for Walmart. "Every time we sell a muffler, steering wheel cover, or flame decal, we are potentially causing the death of a person, and we cannot support that any longer."

"It's clear that bad drivers and poor road conditions don't cause vehicular deaths---cars do."

Google will pay $170M in settlement over children's privacy on YouTube

Google agreed to a record-setting $170 million settlement with federal and state regulators over allegations YouTube, its subsidiary, illegally gathered children’s personal information.

The Federal Trade Commission announced Wednesday that under the terms of the agreement, Google will pay $136 million to the commission and $34 million to New York state for alleged violations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, a children’s privacy law. In addition to knowingly and illegally harvesting the information from kids without receiving parental consent, regulators said YouTube made millions of dollars by using the data collected from children to deliver targeted ads to them.

The $136 million penalty is the largest civil fine obtained by the FTC in a case involving the 1998 privacy law.

KAVANAUGH ACCUSER’S ATTORNEY ADMITS: PROTECTING ABORTION WAS PART OF HER MOTIVATION TO DERAIL CONFIRMATION

Nearly a year after the politically-charged confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the truth about the left’s crusade to take him down is becoming clear.

Video footage of Christine Blasey Ford’s lawyer Debra Katz shows her saying that protecting abortion was “part of what motivated” Ford to publicly accuse Kavanaugh of sexual impropriety against her during the 1980s.

“In the aftermath of these hearings, I believe that Christine’s testimony brought about more good than the harm misogynist Republicans caused by allowing Kavanaugh on the court,” Katz says in the video.

Kamala Harris unveils $10T plan to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2045

Presidential candidate Kamala Harris released a $10 trillion plan Wednesday to combat climate change, pledging to achieve 100% net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire economy by 2045.

The price tag for her plan, representing a mix of public and private funding, is the second highest of all climate plans proposed, topped only by Bernie Sanders’ $16.3 trillion figure.

And her timeline for carbon neutrality, or net-zero emissions, is faster than the mid-century target set by most other candidates, a timeline that U.N. climate scientists say is necessary to avoid the worst consequences of climate change. Net-zero emissions means that no more carbon emissions are produced within the country than are eliminated from the atmosphere.

Smollett lawyers say he shouldn't pay city because he didn't know the costs

The lawyers for former Empire actor Jussie Smollett have filed a motion arguing that he shouldn't have to pay the city for the police investigation because he didn't know how much time and money the department would devote to his report.

His lawyers filed the motion this week, which maintains Smollett's innocence in staging the hate crime against himself as the police department has alleged, according to the Associated Press.

The Chicago Police Department decided to sue Smollett for $130,000 over his refusal to reimburse the city for the overtime payments made to officers who were investigating the alleged hate crime.

Hill joins FEC in war on Drudge, online media

First, it was Democrats on the Federal Election Commission.

Now it’s congressional Democrats and Republicans who want to squelch the political voices on major online websites such as Facebook, Twitter, the New York Times, and eventually the Drudge Report.

According to an election law expert, Congress is set to take up consideration of a new law targeting small-time advertisers on the biggest trafficked websites.

Called the Honest Ads Act, it would force websites to police their site for fake influencers and identify the names and addresses of anybody who spend $500 or more on political ads. It was introduced by Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham is a co-sponsor. An identical bill was introduced in the House by two Democrats.

Attorney accuses Obamas of 'really deplorable behavior' in trademark fight

Los Angeles attorney Larry Zerner hit back at the Obamas after Higher Ground Productions, the couple's movie production company, attempted to cancel the trademark registration for his client's company, Higher Ground Enterprises.

"The Obamas have known for almost a year that their Higher Ground trademark application was rejected by the USPTO because it infringed my client's rights," Zerner told the The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday. "Instead, of simply picking another name, the Obamas' lawyers have now filed a meritless petition to cancel my client's trademark so they can take it for themselves. This is really deplorable behavior. I hope that the Obamas realize that these actions are not consistent with the values they preach and that they instruct their attorneys to immediately dismiss the petition."

The U.S. Trademark Office rejected the Obamas' attempt to trademark their production company earlier this year because of the trademark held prior by Hanisya Massey, who runs Higher Ground Enterprises.

The Left's Next Target: 'Christian Nationalists'

“And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever.” —Thomas Jefferson (1781)

Have you heard the term “Christian Nationalist”? Well, brace yourself — you may be one of these.

A quick read of George Washington’s official proclamations and writings reveals that he is the Founding Father of Christian nationalism.

Currently, those words generally refer to faithful grassroots Americans who advocate for legislation that reflects Christian morals and ethics; who promote faith as a discussion point in national political dialogue (including the sanctity of human life); and who support such things as displaying the Ten Commandments on public property — as they are in the reliefs above the Supreme Court building. Christian Nationalists also support our national motto, “In God We Trust,” and are defenders of the fundamental tenets of Liberty, especially religious Liberty, enshrined in our Constitution.

Federal lawsuit claims MD state workers were forced to pay union fees, demands refund

BALTIMORE (WBFF) - A Federal lawsuit is seeking a refund of nearly $7 million on behalf of State workers in Maryland who claim they were forced to pay Union fees as a condition of employment.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday morning in Federal Court, represents 19 Maryland State Employees including Correctional Dietary Officer, Gary Mattos. “I found out I was paying over $400 a year just to have a state job,” Mattos says, “And I think that's wrong.”

Filed against AFSCME Council 3, one of the largest unions in the state of Maryland, the class action lawsuit is seeking a refund of roughly $7 million dollars. Senior Attorney for Liberty Justice Center, Brian Kelsey says, “We estimate that half of state workers, 10,000 people did not want to join the Union, and yet AFSCME took these union fees from them.”

For years the Union was collecting fees from all employees, in addition to dues from the Union's members. Last year the Supreme Court ruled that it is illegal to require public employees to pay union fees now those workers want that money back. Kelsey says, “The Unions might say the fees were legal at the time they were taken, but unions like AFSCME knew that what they were doing was wrong and they knew that the court would rule against them.”

One attack, a rape near downtown Silver Spring, was random. [i]
