Toughest Test Coming Up For Health Care Reform

Ability of deeply divided Senate Finance Committee to OK plan is crucial

WASHINGTON
- The fate of President Barack Obama's top domestic priority — a remake of the U.S. health care system — now rests in the hands of a pivotal but deeply divided Senate committee.

Members of the Senate Finance Committee plan to start voting Tuesday on their version of a health care reform bill.

Democrats on the committee are disappointed with the bill proposed by the chairman, Sen. Max Baucus of Montana. Republicans see a chance to deliver a stunning blow to Obama that could cripple his presidency.

Acting Deputy Fire Chief

From: Richard A. Hoppes, Acting Fire Chief

Subject: Assignment of Acting Deputy Fire Chief

As you know, John W. Tull has been the Acting Deputy Chief of Operations since May 2009. Since that time John has faithfully served in that capacity and executed the office to which he was appointed with all diligence. However John has announced that he does not intend, nor does he desire to continue to act in the position of Deputy Fire Chief within the SFD. While I am saddened by this I am compelled to honor his request to no longer act as the Deputy Fire Chief of Operations.

Therefore, effective Monday, 14 September 2009, at 0700hrs I am appointing AC John D. Bragg to serve as the Acting Deputy Fire Chief of Operations for the Department. This appointment will continue until such time as the City’s Administration selects and appoints a permanent Chief of the Department. While serving in this position DC Bragg shall be afforded every courtesy the position demands. He will be responsible for and have the full authority to execute all aspects of the position in which he has been called to serve and I remain extremely confident in Dru’s knowledge, skills, and abilities and look forward to working with him during this time of transition for the department as we strive to move forward toward success.

AC John Tull will be reassigned to the 1st Platoon to fill the temporary vacancy left by AC Gladwell being out on medical leave. John will report to the 1st Platoon on Friday, 18 September 2009, at 0700hrs.

Stay safe and should you have any questions concerning this matter feel free to contact me.

The acting fire chief has made another irrational decision by appointing a deadbeat to acting deputy chief. The majority of the members of the fire department are extremely upset by the new mayor allowing these clowns to continue to bring down the Salisbury Fire Department. The previous acting deputy chief wasn't the best, but he certainly was better than this choice. No one in the Salisbury Fire Department has any respect for these good ole boys.

If the new mayor continues to allow Hoppes and his small click to run the fire department you will see quite a few members jump ship and this is no joke.

Someone please help!

Fatal Collision

LOCATION: E/B US 50 E/O Golf Course Road, Worcester County, MD

VEHICLE 1 1997 Harley Davidson Trike, MD Reg: 606M03
OPERATOR Ronald Raymond Lough, 69 YOA, Lansdowne, MD

VEHICLE 2 1998 Harley Davidson, VA Reg: 459966
OPERATOR Ronald Victor Eisner, 49 YOA, Herndon, VA

NARRATIVE:

On 09/18/09 at approximately 1957 hrs, Troopers from the Berlin Barrack investigated a motor vehicle collision involving the vehicles listed above. Investigation revealed that a 1997 Harley Davidson trike failed to reduce his speed to avoid collision with a 1998 Harley Davidson which was traveling directly in front of him. The 1998 Harley Davidson, operated by Ronald Eisner of Herndon, VA was slowing for two motorcycles which were trying to merge into traffic directly in front of him. The 1997 Harley Davidson trike, operated by Ronald Lough, ran into the rear of Mr. Eisner’s motorcycle spinning into the curb. Lough’s motorcycle spun out of control and subsequently overturned ejecting Lough. Lough sustained life threatening injuries at the scene and was transported to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin where he was later pronounced deceased. Traffic was diverted around the scene while the investigation was completed. The roadway was reopened after being closed for approximately 2 hours.

Hospital Shooting?

Not sure how to post this on your site. So I will just tell you.
A fellow worker of mine that is married to a nurse at PRMC told me that his wife said a few months ago that there was a gang member brought to the emergency room at PRMC with a gun shot wound.

Later some rival gang members showed up to finish the job. Apparently they fired off a few rounds in the emergency room. Not sure if anyone was hit but I would like to know why it was not reported on the news? I emailed WBOC twice asking them about it and they have not replied to me. Neither has PRMC.

It amazes me how they keep things like this from the public. I guess our safety has no meaning to the city. I myself do know there are gangs here in Salisbury. I have had a minor run in with one gang before in the area behind the old Bella Donna. Do not want that to happen again.

Have you heard anything about this before? I think the people in this city need to know the truth. If the Mayor and the City Council are not going to do tell us, then we need to remove them and put someone in office who will.

Thanks

HISTORICAL MOMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER

EAST SALISBURY STREETS

The origins of the names of the streets of East Salisbury as recounted by L. Thomas Parker, Sr. in 1950 in the Salisbury Times.

He recalls that when he moved to Salisbury in 1890 there were only 3 people living in East Salisbury. They were Mrs. Minnie Tyndall, Mrs. Annie Johnson and John Sims.

The names of the streets were so named for the following:

Barclay St. - after Lacy Thoroughgood’s mother-in-law

Lacy Thoroughood was a prominent downtown merchant from

at least 1891. By 1921, there is no mention of Lacy, but the

company was still in business as The Thoroughood Co.

Martin St. - after Martin E. Hastings

There is no mention is the history books of Mr. Hastings.

Baker St. - after J. L. Baker

John L. Baker and his wife, Maria, lived at 313 Baker St.

He worked for the Baltimore, Chesapeake and Atlantic R.R.

Charles St. - after Charles Bennett ( Minnie Tyndall’s grandfather)

Naylor St. - after Dr. Robert Naylor (builder of the Hotel Esther)

( Naylor St. was formerly called Williams Row)

Truitt St. - after Sampson P. Truitt ( owned the land east of Truitt St.)

Davis St. - after Edward E. Davis

Brown St. - after Rev. McLain Brown

Two other streets in the Newtown area that were named after the daughters of the original owner of Poplar Hill mansion had previous identities. They are:

E. Isabella St. - formerly known as Ulman Row.

Elizabeth St. - formerly known as Dooty Row

TOO MANY SCARECROWS IN CONGRESS

In the Wizard of Oz movie the Scarecrow says, "IF ONLY I HAD A BRAIN." We just have far too many Scarecrows in congress. If we had a few, equipped with a brain, perhaps the health care problems could easily be fixed. Currently the back room costs for private insurers is 20%. In most industrialized nations that cost is 5%. They reduced the expense by insisting no one be denied coverage, all claims be paid promptly and competition is encouraged. A few pages of legislation could easily save 15% on insurance premiums. Probably more if companies could compete across state lines.

If a cap was placed on malpractice claims further savings could be realized by eliminating the need for defensive medicine and the high cost to Doctors of insurance. A standardized form for medical claims would reduce the amount of paperwork in the Doctors office, also reducing the staff requirements there. Perhaps, if this happened the misrepresentations by politicians would cease. We might discover the true number of people that need taxpayer assistance to obtain medical care, that they do not now receive.

The Veterans Administration has one of the best, if not the best, medical information systems. What would it cost to put that program on disc and supply it to every hospital and doctor in the country? It is only a dream that waste and corruption in Medicare will be made to vanish. If you could do that, we could also put an end to bank robbery. The premise that a government run program would work more efficiently or at lower administrative cost is simply a pipe dream.

AH!, IF CONGRESS ONLY HAD A BRAIN

Look What The Cat Brought In!! THIS IS AWESOME!

SONIC WEAPONS USED IN IRAQ POSITIONED AT CONGRESSIONAL TOWNHALL MEETINGS IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY

“Long-range acoustic devices [LRADs] for crowd control can be extremely dangerous. These are used in Iraq to control insurgents. They can cause serious and lasting harm to humans…We want to know WHY our Sheriff Dept has this weapon,” Sal Magallanez of San Diego-based Liberty One Radio said in an e-mail sent to East County Magazine, prompting a joint investigation.

The device was stationed by San Diego County Sheriff deputies at a recent town hall forum hosted by Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) in Spring Valley and at a subsequent town hall with Congressman Darrell Issa (R-San Diego). The Davis Rally drew an estimated 1,300-1,500 people, including vocal conservative and liberal protest groups. (photo credit: Mike Russell)

A public records search conducted by East County Magazine has confirmed that the device is an LRAD 500-x manufactured by San Diego-based American Technology Corporation (ATC). Capable of use as an effective loudspeaker, the LRAD also has the ability to emit a deafening tone aimed at incapacitating and dispersing a crowd without use of lethal force.

“It’s very concerning,” Kevin Keenan, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, said. “ It is fine for the Sheriff’s Department to have new less-than-lethal weapons, but for their interactions with individuals these still-dangerous weapons need to be used only as substitutes for firearms. They can’t be used as just another tool on the tool belt. As we’ve seen with tasers and pepper spray, these types of weapons are being used to subdue people even though they pose the risk of serious physical harm.”

Raw Diet For Pets

Information collected by Jane Anderson

Millions of people around the world feed their pets a raw diet. This is not a fad. If your vet does not support your quest for a healthy pet via a raw diet, please find another vet!

Let's face it, pet food companies and vets do not want you to feed a raw diet, because it harshly affects their profits. Isn't it time your pet's health came before someone else's profits? I've received 10 times my normal amount of email in recent days by people justifiably scared by the recent pet food poisoning problem. If you want to switch to raw food, and you need help in addition to what's provided on this site, or just want a cheer squad on the side to encourage you to explore your options, feel free to email me . I may take 2-3 days to get back to you (I work full time in another job + have the family), but drop me a note.

I care about your pets' health, and I care about your learning journey.

ACORN

9-12-09, Wake Up Libs, Here's The Numbers

Hi Cheryl,

Tony Passaro forwarded your email to me. What I came up with is an approximation. You can use it to verifie that there were a MINIMUM of 1,000,000 people. The first attachment is the City of DC traffic camera picture that we've all seen. The second attachment is a schematic created by the National Park Service used to illustrate how they determined the number of people at Pres. Wee Wee's recent inauguration.

It was printed in USA Today shortly after the ceremony. Since the million man march (that was only 700,000), the Park Service as a policy does not supply crowd estimates, but for the exception of Wee Wee's inauguration.

I hope this is helpful to you. It has helped me prove to Lefties that there were far more than tens of thousands. My personal feelings, and I was there, there were approx 1.5 million. The schematic only counts the crowds on the mall, along the reflecting pool. It does not show the huge overflow spilling into the side streets all along the mall hence my estimate of 1.5 to 1.8 million.

GodBless You,
Good Patriot.

Hi-Ho, The Derry-O

Let's say you're preparing dinner and you realize with dismay that you don't have any certified organic Tuscan kale. What to do?

Here's how Michelle Obama handled this very predicament Thursday afternoon:

The Secret Service and the D.C. police brought in three dozen vehicles and shut down H Street, Vermont Avenue, two lanes of I Street and an entrance to the McPherson Square Metro station. They swept the area, in front of the Department of Veterans Affairs, with bomb-sniffing dogs and installed magnetometers in the middle of the street, put up barricades to keep pedestrians out, and took positions with binoculars atop trucks. Though the produce stand was only a block or so from the White House, the first lady hopped into her armored limousine and pulled into the market amid the wail of sirens.

Then, and only then, could Obama purchase her leafy greens. "Now it's time to buy some food," she told several hundred people who came to watch. "Let's shop!"

Cowbells were rung. Somebody put a lei of marigolds around Obama's neck. The first lady picked up a straw basket and headed for the "Farm at Sunnyside" tent, where she loaded up with organic Asian pears, cherry tomatoes, multicolored potatoes, free-range eggs and, yes, two bunches of Tuscan kale. She left the produce with an aide, who paid the cashier as Obama made her way back to the limousine.

There's nothing like the simple pleasures of a farm stand to return us to our agrarian roots.

Bottle Of Wine

(Women will LOVE this one!)

A woman and a man are involved in a car accident on a snowy, cold Monday morning; it's a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished, but amazingly neither of them is hurt. God works in mysterious ways.

After they crawl out of their cars, the man is yelling about women drivers.

The woman says, 'So, you're a man. That's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but we're unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should be friends and live in peace for the rest of our days.'

Flattered, the man replies, 'Oh yes, I agree completely, this must be a sign from God! But you're still at fault...women shouldn't be allowed to drive.'

The woman continues, 'And look at this, here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune.' She hands the bottle to the man.

The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman.

The woman takes the bottle, puts the cap back on and hands it back to the man.

The man asks, 'Aren't you having any?'

The woman replies, 'No. I think I'll just wait for the police...'

MORAL OF THE STORY:

Don't mess with them.

Today Is A Very Special Day

DORIS IS GOING HOME!!!!!

It has been a long seven months with many ups and downs but Mom has persevered and has made a lot of progress. It has been seven weeks since she took her first steps. She has worked really hard to get this far in such a short time. She is able to transfer from bed to wheelchair on her own. She is also comfortable with the walker although it is slow small steps.

At home, she will have 24 hour care and therapy for a couple of weeks. Once she gets used to being at home, she will travel back to rehab for her therapy. They will pick her up and bring her home by van.

She had a nerve conduction test performed yesterday on her leg. The doctor said it would probably be 2 to 2 1/2 years for the nerves to fully repair.

She has come a long way, but still has a long way to go.

Keep her in your prayers, they have worked so far.
