Flag Day - June 14th - Flag Etiquette Do's and Dont's

The U.S. Flag Code formalizes and unifies the traditional ways in which we give respect to the flag, also contains specific instructions on how the flag is not to be used.

The following is a list of do’s and don’ts associated with Old Glory, the U.S. Flag.

When displaying the flag, DO the following:

Display the U.S. flag from sunrise to sunset on buildings and stationary flagstaffs in the open. When a patriotic effect is desired the flag may be displayed 24-hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

When placed on a single staff or lanyard, place the U.S. Flag above all other flags.

When flags are displayed in a row, the U.S. flag goes to the observer’s left. Flags of other nations are flown at same height. State and local flags are traditionally flown lower.

When used during a marching ceremony or parade with other flags, the U.S. Flag will be to the observer’s left.

On special days, the flag may be flown at half-staff. On Memorial Day it is flown at half-staff until noon and then raised.

When flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day. By "half-staff" is meant lowering the flag to one-half the distance between the top and bottom of the staff. Crepe streamers may be affixed to spear heads or flagstaffs in a parade only by order of the President of the United States.

When the flag is displayed over the middle of the street, it should be suspended vertically with the union (blue field of stars) to the north in an east and west street or to the east in a north and south street.
When placed on a Podium the flag should be placed on the speaker’s right or the staging area. Other flags should be placed to the left.

When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall (or other flat surface), the union (blue field of stars) should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left.

When displayed in a window it should be displayed in the same way -- with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street.
When the flag is displayed on a car, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender.

When the flag is used to cover a casket, it should be so placed that the union is at the head and over the left shoulder. The flag should not be lowered into the grave or allowed to touch the ground.

When saluting the flag DO the following:

All persons present in uniform (military, police, fire, etc.) should render the military salute. Members of the armed forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute.

All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart.

When stowing or disposing of the flag, DO the following:
Fold in the traditional triangle for stowage, never wadded up.

The VFW offers the following instructions for properly disposing of a worn flag:

The flag should be folded in its customary manner.

It is important that the fire be fairly large and of sufficient intensity to ensure complete burning of the flag.

Place the flag on the fire.

The individual(s) can come to attention, salute the flag, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and have a brief period of silent reflection.

After the flag is completely consumed, the fire should then be safely extinguished and the ashes buried.

Please make sure you are conforming to local/state fire codes or ordinances.

Quick list of Flag Etiquette Dont's:

Don’t dip the U.S. Flag for any person, flag, or vessel.

Don’t let the flag touch the ground.

Don’t fly flag upside down unless there is an emergency.

Don’t carry the flag flat, or carry things in it.

Don’t use the flag as clothing.

Don’t store the flag where it can get dirty.

Don’t use it as a cover.

Don’t fasten it or tie it back. Always allow it to fall free.

Don’t draw on, or otherwise mark the flag.

Don’t use the flag for decoration. Use bunting with the blue on top, then white, then red.

A Viewer Writes: Allegedly PRMC is in the bottom 25% of the state for patient satisfaction

Peggy and Cindy went on about all these "cultural changes coming to PRMC". The reality is that for the last 2 1/2 years our patient satisfaction scores have continued to drop to the point that they are now one of the worst in Maryland.

The board has finally decided that this might be an important issue since we seem to pay our executives well above the bottom of the state.

A Message I Just Can't Hold Back Any Longer

Depending on what age you are, I want you to think back to when we were younger.

Back in my day, we grew up very poor. This is not a new story to most of you as well and I hope you will to relate to the rest of this message.

When we turned 16, (at least for me) there was no money available from my parents to buy me a car. Having two older brothers, knowing they had to work for anything they got, I started working full time, (after school, like my brothers) to hopefully save up something to buy a junker to get around when I came of age. Work was something that was a must. Either to save just a little for a car and the rest went to support my Family.

Then came marriage and having children. Renting an apartment, then stepping up to renting a town house and years later saving enough money for a down payment of a home.

Each experience left me extremely proud because I/We earned it. My point is, we couldn't go to Mom and Dad and ask for help financially. Fortunately my children saw how hard I worked and they have become very responsible men, I got lucky. However, many in their generation have become dependent on their parents and even I have to admit, (as many of you know) we've been raising our Grandson for a good 11 years now.

THINK, back when I was raising my children, we couldn't depend on Mom or Dad to watch our kids because they too were working full time.

So in a matter of the past 30 years I have watched the Liberal Elected Officials go SOFT and start pushing business owners to create day care facilities. We've had to adapt to being understanding while Teachers take so many "professional days" off and have one of the parents stay home with the kids. We've evolved now to a point we now have gender neutral bathrooms in schools. We've watched the FULL TIME JOBS almost disappear and health benefits, (something that was earned) skyrocket and Obamacare become a law in which you get fined for not having health insurance.

I could go on and on about what has changed in the past 30 years but let me get to my point and you can add to this discussion/frustration through comments.

This isn't about me, it's about each and every one of you. I have spent the last 10 years dedicated every single day providing information WE feel extremely important to all of you. Whether it be financial information all the way to local breaking news, we've done everything in our power to keep you ahead of the curve to show you what the future is going to bring.

In case you've missed it and you've been too busy working two jobs and trying to survive raising a Family, our government is purposely setting ALL of you up, little by little, day by day to become more and more dependent on them. NO, this isn't a conspiracy theory. It is a reality. Mom/Dad, I need money for a car. Mom/Dad, I need money for a down payment on a house. Mom/Dad, I need help with gas this week. Mom/Dad, I need help paying my rent/mortgage because my credit card debt is killing us.

More and more people are becoming dependent on Food Stamps, Affordable Housing, Disability, Welfare and the list goes on and on. Parents are losing everything, so many generations of hard working Americans struggled for because we have become a dependent society because Liberals think everyone should be equal, unless you are in the 1% and making massive donations to the Liberal Party.

Parents are spending incredible amounts of money to put their children through college, FOR A PART TIME JOB! Inexperienced young adults are putting themselves in debt in college loans and credit cards.

So how do we beat this? How can we encourage younger people to wake the hell up and see what the future will ultimately bring them? We published an article this week showing how home ownership is no longer the American Dream. Do you REALLY understand what that means? Do you understand that people who RENT do NOT take care of those properties as they would if it was their own? Do you understand that transient living brings CRIME? Do you really realize where our Liberal leadership is leading you.

I stated years ago that our government will take every penny you have. Then you'll borrow from your Family until that runs out. Then they'll get you to borrow until you can't pay that any more. They will bring you to a point you must become dependent on your government to survive. If this pattern continues, WHY on earth would you want to raise a Family in America any more?

Work so hard and build up a small empire you are proud of and then Liberals step in and say, we need gay marriage. We need to let ALL undocumented and illegals to become citizens because we need their votes to keep scamming these stupid Americans who can't see into the future. All the while you are watching your financial empire disappear.

I wonder, just what will it take before the masses wake up and realize, this is NOT the kind of country I want or worked so hard for. One of the things I want ALL of you to realize is, the changes that have happened over the past 30 years has been slow and gradual. It's kind of like raising a child every day. They grow and mature but when a relative comes over once a year and says, my how you've grown, you don't recognize it as much because you live it every day.

They LOVE Fergison, Baltimore, Travon Martin and other parts of the country falling apart. They do NOT want you concentrating on the future.

After so many years of trying to bring you information we feel is extremely important, DO YOU ACTUALLY GET IT?

To be completely honest, I'm not sure things can turn back around any more. I guess it all depends on what YOU and your children want as a country. Do we keep shopping at WalMart while they put all those small businesses out of business. Do we keep using large chain Banks, or do we start supporting the local, (yet few) Banks who can provide a better service. America was built on small businesses and Liberals keep throwing out laws and taxes to shut them down. Take for example the local Salisbury Rain Tax many of you just started getting bills for. If the federal government and state government can't get you, your local government will.

You people better start waking up. Look, just remember every time your kids come to you asking for HELP, think back to this article and remember how we survived. WE WORKED because we had to!

If you want YOUR America back, FIGHT FOR IT. Start looking at candidates a whole different way. Start looking for elected officials who want to bring America back to its proud days. JOBS, JOBS, JOBS! Isn't that what each and every local elected official promised  each and every voter??? Well, it's been 6 months since the last election, WHERE'S THE JOBS? Do you ever see your local media going after each and every one of these candidates about their promises?

We've been at this a lot of years. You may not agree with a lot of articles we've published but one thing is for sure, we're the only source out there that delivers you information that EDUCATES. If you think what we do is easy, please, start your own Blog and replace me/us. We could use the vacation/retirement.

Cops Go on Wild Rampage in Cannabis Raid, Destroy Property and Joke About Kicking Disabled Woman

SANTA ANA — Disturbing raw video footage has emerged showing a motley crue of police officers raiding a peaceful cannabis dispensary with guns pointed at the medical patients.

The cops break through the front door as if they’re in a war zone.

They make their way to the display counter, and startle several unsuspecting patients.

You can hear the cops screaming at the patients to get down on the ground, treating them as if they’ve done something egregiously wrong just for being there.

Perhaps the most horrific part of the video is when a disabled woman in a wheelchair tries to roll to safety.

RECORD NUMBER OF AMERICANS RENOUNCED THEIR U.S. CITIZENSHIP IN 2015

1,336 Americans renounced their U.S. citizenship, according to a quarterly report by the Internal Revenue Service

Between January and March of 2015, a record 1,336 Americans renounced their U.S. citizenship, according to a quarterly report by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that was published in The Federal Register.

The list includes long-term permanent residents who are considered American citizens under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA), the IRS noted. The previous record was 1,130 in the second quarter of 2013, according to Treasury Department data.

A record total of 3,415 Americans renounced their citizenship last year, according to the “Quarterly Publication of Individuals Who Have Chosen To Expatriate.

In a survey conducted by the University of Kent between December 2014 and January 2015, 1,546 U.S. citizens and former citizens were asked why they no longer wanted to be Americans. Survey participants stated that high taxes were the primary reason for renouncing their citizenship. But the survey also found that contrary to popular belief, income was not a key factor in their decision.

OCEAN CITY – City officials are investigate the possibility of adding a large beach ball to Ocean City’s skyline.

Gettysburg, Pa. factory-farm eggs: "A serious food safety risk" By Ray Wallace

North of Gettysburg, Pa., that's Hillandale Farms
on the left and two other factory chicken farms in the immediate area.
Hillandale eggs are sold by Costco
under the brand name "Nearby Eggs"
in cartons showing chickens on grass:
 Their lifetime reality:

The International New York Times:

An undercover investigation by the Humane Society of the United States found unsanitary and “inhumane” conditions at a Gettysburg, Pa., farm that supplies eggs to Costco, the animal welfare group said on Tuesday. Video collected at the farm, operated by Hillandale Farms, in April and May by someone “associated with” the Humane Society showed hens laying eggs in cramped cages with deceased birds. Broken eggs and dead chickens were on the floor. Hillandale provides eggs to some Costco stores under the brand name Nearby Eggs. The Humane Society called on Costco to provide a timeline for its promised transition to cage-free eggs. Costco, the third-largest retailer in the United States, did not have an immediate comment. Hillandale Farms said it was aware of the investigation, but did not comment further.

A version of this brief appears in print on June 10, 2015, on page B2 of the New York edition with the headline: ‘Inhumane’ Conditions Found at Egg Supplier for Costco.

The Humane Society:

Newly-released undercover footage shows inhumane treatment of animals and food safety concerns at a facility supplying eggs to Costco, the nation’s second-largest grocery retailer. The Humane Society of the United States shot the video during an undercover exposé.

The investigation was conducted recently at Hillandale Farms in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It uncovered:

Birds forced to share their cages with dead, decaying and even mummified corpses—living 24 hours a day, eating and laying eggs for human consumption on top of their dead cage-mates.

Hens languishing in cages, packed so tightly they can’t even fully extend their wings, some with their legs stuck in the cage wire. Each hen is given only about 67 square inches of space — less space than an iPad — on which to spend her entire life.

Piles of broken, rotting, fly-covered eggs, along with dead birds, on the facility’s floors....

In Iowa, Hillandale’s operations were responsible for the largest egg recall in U.S. history in 2010 after a devastating Salmonella outbreak. The new investigation comes at a time when three states have declared emergencies due to bird flu, which is exacerbated by unsanitary, overcrowded conditions on poultry operations.

NYPD Wishes 'Slow Death' On Citizens Who Film Officers During Wrongdoing

As if the actions of police departments across the United States weren’t already out of control, they have now stepped it up to a new level. As you know, the police are now acting as a quasi Supreme Court of the United States and can now even pass the death sentence without consulting a jury.

Recently, due to the police’s total disregard for human rights, citizens have found a perfect way to expose these brutalities by the police by most often filming them secretly when they are engaged in these illegalities. This discreet filming of the police has uncovered important revelations about how the police kill, harass and abuse innocent citizens for no apparent, legitimate reason.

In one such secret filming in New York, Michael Barber, a member of the ‘Police Watch’ group — a local vigilante organization — filmed two plainclothes police officers grabbing and harassing a young girl in public. Witnesses can be heard in the video shouting at the officers to leave the teenage girl alone.

Pool Restrictions for Vacationers in Rehoboth Considered

If you’re vacationing in Rehoboth Beach and looking forward to using the pool at your rental house that could come to an end in the near future.

The resort’s board of commissioners is looking at denying vacationers the right to use the pools of rental properties.

The Mayor and other city officials are concerned that the larger homes being built in the resort is causing too much noise and disruption in the residential areas.

But many property owners say they believe this will reduce the amount of money they get from renting their homes that comes into beach town during the tourist season.

Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby responded angrily on Wednesday when Fox News producer Griff Jenkins asked her about accusations that she doesn’t fully support the police. The tense exchange was captured by news cameras.

“Rank and file cops have said that you don’t have their backs. What would you like to say to them?” Jenkins asked.

“I’m not going to comment on that,” Mosby immediately shot back. “I come from 5 generations of police officers. That’s absurd. Of course I have – I work with the police department. We rely on the police department to get these violent repeat offenders off of our streets. That’s absurd.”

LBJ Ordered the Death of US Servicemen

The USS Liberty murders are arguably Lyndon Johnson’s greatest crime if one does not include deceiving and dragging America into the horrors of the Vietnam War where millions perished.

The USS Liberty event is one of the most important and also one of the highly suppressed events in modern American history.

William F. Buckley, the publisher of the National Review smelled a dead rat: “Is the Liberty episode being erased from history. So it would seem…What has happened to our prying journalistic corps and our editors, normally so indignant of attempted suppression of the news?…We believe that a joint select committee of Congress should investigate the strange case of the USS Liberty…” (Buckley on June 27, 1967).

Why the cover-up? That is because the horrible and grisly truth about the USS Liberty reflects very poorly on Lyndon Johnson, the United States and Israel. Starting at 2PM Mediterranean time on June 8, 1967 Israel bombed, torpedoed, napalmed and even machine gunned the life boats of the USS Liberty.

As I detailed in the second edition (paperback) of my NY Times bestseller The Man Who Killed Kennedy: The Case Against LBJ, Lyndon Johnson was the one who ordered Israel’s IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) to not just sink the USS Liberty, but also to murder every person on board and eliminate any survivors.

The same man who murdered the president John Kennedy in 1963 is the same man who was hell bent on murdering all 294 Americans on board the USS Liberty in June of 1967: Lyndon Johnson.

But why? The Israeli attack on the USS Liberty occurred on the 4th day of the Six Day War, which was a war between Israel and its Arab neighbors Egypt, Jordan and Syria. The Six Day War was a spectacular success for Israel because it succeeded in taking the Golan Heights from Syria, the West Bank from Jordan and the Gaza strip and Sinai Peninsula from Egypt.

Israel began the Six Day War on June 5th with a surprise attack on Egypt and by the end of that day Israel had utterly destroyed the Egyptian air force as it lay sitting on it airfields. Israel within a one day had claimed air superiority over both Egypt (planes destroyed on tarmac) and Syria (2/3 of air force in ruins by end of June 5th).

'No one helped her': NJ woman murdered by ex while awaiting gun permit

Carol Bowne knew her best shot at defending herself from a violent ex was a gun, and not a piece of paper. And it was paperwork that left her unprotected when Michael Eitel showed up at her New Jersey home last week and stabbed her to death, say Second Amendment advocates, who charge local police routinely sit on firearms applications they are supposed to rule on within 30 days.

Bowne, 39, had a restraining order against Eitel when he killed her in her driveway last Wednesday, but she was still waiting for Berlin Township Police Chief Leonard Check to approve the gun permit she had applied for on April 21. Tragically, she had gone to the township police department just two days before her death to check on the status of her languishing application. In another indication of her fear of Eitel, Bowne had recently installed surveillance cameras around her home, and the equipment recorded the 45-year-old ex-con attacking her as she arrived home and got out of her car.

“She should have been granted that permit in a timely matter, especially given her status as a domestic violence victim,” said Evan Nappen, a New Jersey-based attorney who specializes in Second Amendment cases.

UPDATE On Salisbury Police Accident

Many have asked for an update on the Officer and situation on the early morning crash on Camden Ave. in Salisbury.

I have come to learn the Officer is in fact at Shock Trauma with multiple broken bones. Apparently he shattered his left arm in many places as well as his left leg.

I was told by a good source that the suspect was driving at a high rate of speed and purposely hit the Officer head on. The police cruiser was then sent backwards into the pole and that's how the rear end damage happened.

As for the criminal who did this, he has a long history of domestic violence. His latest stint was a 4 year sentence for assaulting his own mother, he was released after 2 years and on parole. Then came this incident, he knew where he was going and that's right back to jail.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the injured Officer and his Family.

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan Completes Washington, D.C., Media Tour

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Armed with caramel popcorn and saltwater taffy and donning his yellow “Vacation Day” shirt, Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan completed a media tour of Washington, D.C., on Thursday, June 4, generating more than $30,000 in advertising dollar equivalency. The Mayor made appearances on D.C. television and radio stations to promote Ocean City’s new smoking ordinance, Parkmobile app, and family-friendly summer events taking place throughout the season.

Mayor Meehan visited four of D.C.’s top media outlets, including: WTTG-TV FOX 5, WJLA-TV ABC 7/News Channel 8, WUSA-TV CBS 9, and WTOP-FM. The Mayor’s iconic yellow shirt served as a reminder to all DC residents to put their vacation days to good use this year with a trip to Ocean City.

“Our trip to Washington, D.C., couldn’t have come at a better time with the summer season really starting to kick off for vacationers,” said Mayor Meehan. “There are so many new things going on in Ocean City this year, including our new smoking ordinance and Parkmobile app. We also have an exciting lineup of events in store this summer, like the Ocean City Air Show, which is taking place June 13-14. There’s no better way to spend your hard earned vacation days than in Ocean City.”

OCPD INVESTIGATING OVERNIGHT SHOOTING

(June 10, 2015) – The Ocean City Police Department is currently investigating an overnight shooting that occurred in the area of 8th Street and Washington Lane.

On June 10, 2015, at approximately 12:09 a.m. Ocean City police responded to the area of 8th Street and Baltimore Avenue for a reported shooting that had just occurred nearby. Upon arrival, witnesses were providing first-aid to the 21-year-old male victim of Glen Burnie, MD, who suffered a single gunshot wound to his buttocks. The victim was treated by Ocean City EMS and transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was released shortly after.

During the investigation, detectives determined that the victim made contact with the suspects in the area of 8th Street and Washington Lane where a confrontation ensued. The suspects fired three gun shots, one of which struck the victim. The victim made his way to a nearby bus stop where witnesses came to his aid and contacted Ocean City Communications. Officers located three bullet casings at the scene, in addition to drugs and money.

The Ocean City Police Department Criminal Investigation Division Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the incident; however, a lack in cooperation provided by the victim is causing a delay in the investigation. At this time, no suspects are in custody. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Detective James Rodriguez at 410-520-5347 or jrodriguez@oceancitymd.gov. Citizens that wish to remain anonymous may also contact OCPD Crime Tip Hotline at 410-520-5136.

Freddie Gray Case: Court Rejects Prosecutor’s Gag Order

Once again, Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby seems to be having difficulty grasping fundamentals of the practice of law.

Indeed, she’s now reduced to making exactly the same errors she only recently accused opposing counsel of making.

In this most current instance, Mosby’s motion for a gag order on the Freddie Gray case has been rejected, reports the Baltimore Sun (h/t Conservative Treehouse).

The reason? She filed her motion in Circuit Court on May 14, but while the matter was still jurisdictionally in the lower District Court. The matter was not moved into Circuit Court until May 21, a week later.

SICK high school art project shows exactly how liberals have infected our youth

Today I received the following email:

I am a 9-year veteran firefighter from Maryland. Prince Georges County boasts itself as being a leading influential black community in the nation as it is a D.C. suburb. My crew was sent to Oxon Hill High School (a public school) last Friday for a call. When the emergency was mitigated, a crew member noticed this “art” piece and snapped a quick picture.

Not that this part matters but the member of the crew who noticed this was black and he and the other black male (both in their 20’s) said they were offended by this and they are in disbelief that this can go on in a public school setting.

Video Emerges of Violence at ‘Innocent Pool Party’ in McKinney, Texas

Left media is ablaze with articles condemning the police response to a pool party at a McKinney, Texas, subdivision. Now a video is emerging showing why police were called to the scene to begin with – violence.

Residents in a McKinney subdivision were hosting an end-of-school party in their private community pool. Many teens who were not residents of the subdivision began showing up. Some had been invited by residents, some had not. An ad for the event had been placed on social media sites.

Teens who were not invited began climbing the fence to get in, according to reports from residents of the area.

Trouble began when they were asked to leave by residents and pool management.

Now, at least one video (below) shows a fight that broke out between a teenage girl and two adults.

Police were called to the scene and attempted to get some of the trespassers to sit down while they investigated. Many of the teens fled and police chased some of them down. This is when the video of the incident with police began. There does not appear to be any video of the initial police contact with the teens.

One resident, Benet Embry, a black man, posted on Facebook about the events leading up to the police call. “Look, I LIVE in this community and this ENTIRE incident is NOT racial at all,” Embry wrote. “A few THUGS spoiled a COMMUNITY event by fighting, jumping over fences into a PRIVATE pool, harassing and damaging property. Not EVERYTHING is about RACE. WE have other issues that NEED our attention other flights of made up make believe causes.”

US Bureau of Labor - April's Jobs Nos. for Wicomico County Employment - On The Rebound? You Decide

Democrats are now trying to remold and lay claim to an ever improving US jobs market - just in time - before the November 2016 General Election.   Fact is - nothing could be further from the truth as the US Bureau of Labor's previous jobs reports showed that Wicomico County experienced 25 consecutive months of negative workforce retraction - or - 32 of the past 38 months of negative jobs retraction.

Last month, SBYnews reported that the US Bureau of Labor Statistics did a comprehensive revision of its previously posted Employment Labor data for the entire US.

In effect - for Wicomico County the newly posted Labor Force jobs numbers showed that the agency substantially revised downward the overall displaced Labor Force number by approximately 50%.  SBYnews launched an investigation into the department's latest jobs number restatement and have made several inquires to the US Labor Department.  As of the time of this writing, SBYnews has not been provided an adequate explanation from the Labor Department as to why Wicomico County's previously reported workforce numbers were substantially different than their original monthly reports - prior to - February's 2015 monthly jobs numbers.

SBYnews even went so far as to package-up and contact the FOX News investigative team so as to try and shine a national spotlight on the US Bureau of Labor's newly created jobs numbers - extending from February 2015 - all the way back to August 2011.

Our local SBYnews investigative team seems to concur that the US Bureau of Labor's recent restatement of the past several years of jobs numbers gives the appearance that history is trying to be rewritten in that the jobs gains are significantly improving.  Fact is - this does not come as a surprise as the:

US Military LOWERS Uniform Regulation Standards To Allow Certain Religious Garb

The United States military has long been known for their strict uniform policies. However, the Department of Defense has recently decided to relax their standards and allow service members to wear religious clothing such as turbans or skullcaps while on duty.

Facial hair, body art and other expressions of religious belief will also be allowed on a case-by-case basis. This is due to the vast diversity of religions people who serve in our forces follow. With Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, Wiccans and more protesting against the strict policies – saying they make them choose between the religion and serving our nation – the service is making an attempt to be more inclusive.

Texas officer placed on leave after video appears to show him pushing teen

A suburban Dallas police officer was placed on administrative leave over the weekend after video surfaced of him apparently pushing a teenage girl to the ground and pointing his gun at other juveniles.

McKinney Police Chief Greg Conley said at a news conference Sunday that the incident began when officers responded Friday evening to a report of a disturbance involving a group of juveniles at a neighborhood pool. The police department had said in an earlier statement that the young people did not live in the area or have permission to be there.

When officers arrived, residents and private security pointed out the juveniles who were "creating the disturbance, fighting and refusing to leave," Conley said. As officers dispersed the crowd, the 14-year-old girl was "temporarily detained" by an officer, said Conley, who did not describe what led to her detainment.

Baltimore Sheriff Candidate: ‘White People Should Shut The F*ck Up, You’re The Most Violent People on the Planet’

A man running for Baltimore County sheriff on an “anti-police brutality platform” raised some eyebrows with his recent comments, saying, “white people should just shut the f*ck up” because they’re “the most violent people on the planet.”

The comments were made while he ranted about the Ray Rice case, arguing that the running back’s wife was the one at fault.

“Women want equality, she got some of it,” Wiggins wrote. “There are only white Jew women on this thread telling me what black women think… When you whites, particularly you Jews, stop killing women in the Middle East with your dual citizenship, then come talk to me about protecting women’s rights.”

On his website, Wiggins also accuses white Baltimore Police of “assassinating” black men.

“The murders of Black men are continuing with ‘no motive,’ ‘no suspects’,” he writes in his “Baltimore Genocide Report.” “PBD are engaging in random assassinations.”

Top 6 Best Insect Repellents

They’re the uninvited guests you can always count on to ruin your backyard barbecue, summer vacation, or campout: Bugs that bite and sting — making any time spent in the great outdoors …well, a little less great.

Insect repellents are your best defense against those pesky pests, but a new analysis by Consumer Reports finds some bug sprays don’t offer much protection and may even contain potentially harmful ingredients.

The good news: The more effective insect repellents rated by Consumer Reports were also among the safer choices. In fact, the two top-rated products — Sawyers Fisherman’s Formula and Repel Lemon Eucalyptus — outperformed products that contained up to 25 percent DEET, a chemical that can cause serious side effects.

The active ingredient in Sawyer Fisherman’s Formula is 20 percent picaridin, and for Repel Lemon Eucalyptus it’s 30 percent oil of lemon eucalyptus. Both products were able to keep mosquitoes and deer ticks away for at least seven hours, the analysis showed.

“They are not side-effect-free, but those problems are less severe than DEET,” said Ellen Kunes, Consumer Reports’ heath and food content development team leader. “Still, all repellents should be used sparingly and only for the time you need them — especially on children and older people.”

Biting and stinging insects are more than just a nuisance; some carry serious infections and diseases.

Mosquitoes spread a range of blood-borne disease, including encephalitis, Chikungunya, and West Nile virus, which be serious or deadly for older people and those with compromised immune systems.
Tick bites can lead to Lyme disease, caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, spread by the black-legged deer tick — about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. Ticks can also cause other diseases, such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
Stings and bites from bees, hornets, spiders, and other insects can cause life-threatening allergic reactions in some people or become infected.

To identify the safest and most effective spray-on repellents, Consumer Reports hired an outside laboratory to test 15 pump sprays and aerosols repellents. The products contained DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, a chemical called IR3535, and products made with natural plant oils.
