Salisbury Mayor's Magical Math: Common Core Anyone?

To read entire Letter go to end of the article or click on image go to third picture.

By Thornton Crowe
The other week I got an interesting email where our illustrious boy wonder Mayor Jake Day was touting that property values have gone up an astounding  $133K on average per home since 2016. I found this number to be quite extraordinary given the City is in a state of such disarray and so quick to unload it's $2M+ valued commercial properties for a nice $5K (see Feldman building sale) to friends. Fascinated by this idea, I did a little digging of my own, looking up property values around town (within the city limits).

From what I found on the SDAT site, property valuations were actually substantially lower than original purchase prices and holding steady (or lower) for tax assessments for most of the properties -- even those bought within the last year.

Question Of The Day 6-29-17

Today's Survey Question 6-28-17

History will look back on Obama as...

Emily Lampa Leaving WMDT 6-28-17

I have some bittersweet news to share. July 15th is the end of my contract with @47ABC. July 14th will be my final day on the air.

With only about 2 weeks left, I wanted you all to know what an honor it has been to deliver the news of Delmarva for the past 6 and a half years.

As is typical of the TV news business, change happens fairly quickly. In May, negotiations with the station ended. Since we could not come to an agreement that worked for both sides, I started looking for new employment opportunities.

I am so very happy to announce that I have accepted an investigative reporter job at WGRZ - Channel 2, the NBC affiliate in Buffalo, NY.

(Yes, I know what you're thinking...there will be snow. Lots of snow 😉.)

I am so grateful for the friends and relationships I've made while working at 47 ABC. I thank the station for giving me this opportunity to tell your stories over the past few years. It's a privilege that I do not take lightly.

The Delmarva community has been wonderful to my family and me. That's why I didn't want to wait until my last day to share this news with you.

Thank you for your trust and, of course, for watching!

Barge Escapes Chesapeake Ship Builders, Salisbury Fire Department Refuses To Help

On Saturday morning the SPD got a call that a barge broke loose from Chesapeake Ship Builders. The Salisbury Police Department immediately called the Salisbury Fire Department for help, since they do in fact have a Fire Boat.

One would think the SFD would jump right in and help rescue the barge but their response was, IT'S NOT OUR PROBLEM.

Chesapeake Ship Builders was able to retrieve the barge and tied it back up before the COAST GUARD arrived but isn't it just amazing the lack of concern and or support from the Salisbury Fire Department?

The Salisbury Police Department had Officers monitoring the situation until the barge was finally secured.
Interesting how Boy Mayor Jake Day can gather a group of paid Firefighters to show up for all his photo op situations but when it comes to real safety situations, it's not their problem. It's probably because he hasn't created legislation in which they can charge Chesapeake Ship Builders for the use of the million dollar Fire Boat yet.

Salisbury Fencing Ordinance

The City of Salisbury is proposing the elimination and removal of some types of residential fencing within city limits, including all chain link fencing. The ordinance specifies what narrow range of materials can be used as fencing..

The ordinance is on the agenda for a vote at the July 10th meeting.

Go to pages 49-60 at http://www.ci.salisbury.md.us/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/6-12-17-Council-Meeting-Agenda-Packet.pdf  for the agenda item and explanations.

Is Salisbury Animal Control OUT OF THEIR MIND?

A very concerned citizen just informed me about a PUPPY being left in the heat, (picture 1). Animal Control was called in and picture 2 is their SOLUTION?

A black plastic TARP, are you people mentally challenged?

Now get your rear ends out there right now and save this defenseless PUPPY or I will report YOU people to state officials and cause you more trouble then you've ever experienced.

DO IT NOW!

Is this what Salisbury Mayor calls Progress?

Rt. 13 & Main Street Intersection
By Thornton Crowe

Many of you traveling in the downtown area are more than familiar with the construction 'project' since last October, which has rendered this area useless. However, when the City underestimated the construction cost, all movement ceased in April and it's laid inert ever since.

This image was taken Monday, June 26th at 4pm denotes the lack of any work in progress. The bulldozer hasn't moved, the street is still torn up and people needing to be in the area are still forced to detour down side streets.

Just how long is this project going to continue [sic]? A reliable source close to the situation has stated the City had grossly underestimated the cost and fees to remove contaminated soil, which led to this shutdown. Will it be another eight months to a year and then some before the City conjures up the remaining funds issue?

Once again, this proves Salisbury Mayor Jake Day and his Administration don't have a handle on basic situations such as this, which are a mainstay for any city governance. Didn't we read somewhere he holds a Masters in Urban Development? If so, wouldn't one with such an education know the cost differential for these incidents and how to outsource the job properly to get reasonably accurate quotes from outside vendors?

OK Boy Mayor, Now You've Really Pissed Me Off!

While your inexperienced Boy Mayor created two new Deputy Director positions that pay $71,000.00 to $82,000.00 a year, EACH, this is the kind of BS we're going to get now?

I mean, Holy Crap, WHAT HATE CRIMES? I thought crime was down! I've been at this for 13 years and the ONLY "HATE CRIME" I can recall is the one below where two black girls tried impersonating white people at Salisbury University and guess what, NO CHARGES were filed!

Ladies & Gentlemen, I truly cannot tell you just how pissed off I am at this fabricated BS. These Liberals are now making things up and creating things, implying we have a problem here. Well, perhaps we do, starting with their own Liberal Party.

Arrest Hillary Clinton and all the other Liberals that fabricated Fake News. When Salisbury News broke the story below DAYS before the rest of the media picked it up, it wasn't Fake News. It was as real as it gets. If it hadn't gone national I'm sure the rest if the Liberal Media would've swept it under the rug.

I'm simply sick and tired of this nonsense and it needs to STOP. So Boy Mayor, do tell ALL of us just what other hate crime is going on, who has been arrested and who has been prosecuted for such said crimes? We're waiting!

Salisbury Hate Crime Goes National: ‘HATE CRIME’ INVESTIGATION OF NOOSE DRAWING LEADS TO TWO BLACK STUDENTS

Should all Americans receive a guaranteed income?

Having a monthly, tax-free, no-strings-attached income that would cover the basics for life may sound too good to be true, but it’s no fantasy. The idea of universal basic income (UBI) already has been implemented in some regions, such as Canada, Europe, and even Alaska, and Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently revitalized discussion about the concept.

Zuckerberg endorsed UBI during his 2017 commencement speech at Harvard University as a means of leveling the economic playing field and opening the doors of entrepreneurship to everyone.

"We should explore ideas like universal basic income to make sure that everyone has a cushion to try new ideas," Zuckerberg told graduates. “Now it’s time for our generation to define a new social contract.”

Twenty-four House Democrats are now backing the bill, including the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. John Conyers (D., Mich.), Yahoo News reported Friday.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.), the former chair of the Democratic National Committee, is also co-sponsoring the legislation.

Restaurant owner says dozens of workers gone after request from DHS

CANTON, Md. (WBFF) -- Customers of the BoatHouse in Canton were greeted with an unfamiliar sign Saturday.

The restaurant posted copies of a letter at its entrance and on social media.

The letter was written by the owner and explains the restaurant unexpectedly lost more than 30 employees, he says after the Department of Homeland Security requested employment files in order to review I-9 immigration documentation.

The letter read in part, “… properly documented and potentially less than properly documented are all fearful of being separated from their families, many with small children. Many went home to pack up and leave. This was a sad, emotional and tragic event.”

A Viewer Writes: Wicomico County Education

Dear Mr. Culver,

I hope not to take up too much of your valuable time, however I’m compelled to speak to some concerns I have around the elimination of some of the Vocational Trades and Career Technology programs for high school students in our county. I’m hoping you may be so inclined to lend your voice to help save some of these programs or reintroduce them, as it seems some decisions have already been made. It seems these decisions were made under the cloak of darkness and people have not been made aware of the assault that is taking place by some individuals in charge of Career Technology Education. Yourself being a builder for many years I would think can appreciate how important skilled trades are to our area. For years the construction trades of the Career Technology Center have been a nursery for the many local contractors in our area. Several other occupations have been added over the years, such as Health occupations, Nursing Assisting, as well as Child care programs. New programs were added as times had changed and programs added, such as Manufacturing and CNC Machining.

The previous administration and political climate was not a fan of Vocational Training as I’m sure you are aware. The new expectation was that every child would go to college. The students who may have been interested in a trade or career that didn’t require a 4 year college track have been dissuaded from such and pushed to go to college. Not taking into consideration that all students just aren’t college material. There are students who can barely read yet are told they need to go to college and think they will be successful. That is until the reality of college and student loans smacks them in the face. The education agenda has changed and vocational programs are being axed. There are 2 rather important vocational programs and trades that have currently been eliminated from the Wicomico County curriculum for next year. This is Plumbing and Electronics. As would have it my husband is the Plumbing instructor. He’s been teaching plumbing for almost 19 years now. He came through the program when he was in high school. He worked in the trade, has his Master Plumbing and HVAC license and has thoroughly enjoyed teaching over this time. His supervisor came to him and told them his class was being eliminated. He also told him, he wanted to eliminate the program in 2012 but since, for the first time in the programs history, they had a Plumbing student make it to the VICA Skills National contest, it would look bad to get rid of the program at that point. When my husband would talk to kids, they had no idea what was even offered at the Career Technology Center. Several kids had said “man, if I knew I could have done this, I’d have been here!”

'Obamaphone' program riddled with fraud

The controversial “Obamaphone” program, which pays for cellphones for the poor, is rife with fraud, according to a new government report released Thursday that found more than a third of enrollees may not even be qualified.

Known officially as the Lifeline Program, the phone giveaway became a symbol of government waste in the previous administration. Now a new report from the Government Accountability Office bears out those concerns.

The report, requested by Sen. Claire McCaskill, Missouri Democrat, also says the program has stashed some $9 billion in assets in private bank accounts rather than with the federal treasury, further increasing risks and depriving taxpayers of the full benefit of that money.

“A complete lack of oversight is causing this program to fail the American taxpayer — everything that could go wrong is going wrong,” said Mrs. McCaskill, ranking Democrat on the Senate’s chief oversight committee and who is a former state auditor in Missouri.

“We’re currently letting phone companies cash a government check every month with little more than the honor system to hold them accountable, and that simply can’t continue,” she said.

Local Media Pulling The Same Fake News BS As CNN

I knew several months ago that County Council President John Cannon wanted to hire a forensic auditor and I immediately questioned why. It had NOTHING to do with MONEY, so why hire this auditor that cost the taxpayers, (are you sitting) $50,000.00!

Now that time has passed and the auditor has claimed to find fraudulent activity, I'd suspect when all is said and done that this is much to do with nothing, you'll see.

Look, I was in business for a lot of years. I've been through auditors and have dealt with numerous attorneys and I can tell you right out of the gate, IF there was ANY validity to this crap, NO ONE would be speaking out so quickly.

Council President John Cannon called every media source out there last night, (with exception to SBYNews) and strongly suggested they go to the on line briefing book to see what's going on.

Ladies & Gentlemen, this is a "Witch Hunt' just like the Liberal Media is doing to President Donald Trump. DO NOT fall for this fabricated information, seriously.

Anyone with wisdom and experience won't take the shark bait. They will sit back and wait for the final judgment on this matter. Shame on ALL of the media for jumping the gun and falling for this crap.

John Cannon's goal is to defame Executive Culver and has political interest in the near future, hence pushing to spend $50,000.00 to do his dirty work at taxpayer expense.

22-year-old YouTuber shot dead by pregnant girlfriend in viral stunt gone wrong

MonaLisa Perez, 20, remains in jail after shooting her boyfriend Pedro Ruiz at short range on Monday, the StarTribune reports. The couple was recording a stunt for their YouTube channel outside their Minnesota home.

According to CBS Minnesota, Ruiz was holding a thick book in front of his chest and instructed Perez to shoot at him with a .50-caliber pistol. They wanted to see if the book could stop the bullet. The pair reportedly had tested the stunt out already — they were filming when the shooting occurred. Police said there are "multiple videos" of the incident, but that none of them will be released at this time.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene after the shooting. “People watched as chest compressions on Ruiz were done,” Valley News reports. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Study: Most People Don’t Want To See Friends’ Vacation Pics On Social Media

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The summer months are a popular time to plan a getaway. Many may have noticed this based on the proliferation of vacation photos on their preferred social media feed, but as you may know, people don’t always enjoy seeing others’ vacation photos on social media.

According to a study conducted by Aviva — A U.K.-based insurance company — of 2,000 people polled, an overwhelming majority (73 percent) are annoyed when they see others’ vacation photos on social media.

The most irritating pose? The “hot dogs or legs?” beach/poolside picture and caption.

Homeless Individuals Charged With Daytime Boardwalk Robbery

OCEAN CITY — Three area homeless citizens were arrested on assault and robbery charges last week for their roles in a knife-point robbery on the Boardwalk in the middle of a Friday afternoon.

Around 3:30 p.m. last Friday, an Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) officer responded to the area of South 1st Street and the Boardwalk for a report of a male being robbed and threatened with a knife. The victim told police he had just finished a shift at a nearby restaurant and was sitting on a bench on the Boardwalk and looking at his cell phone when he suddenly felt someone grab him from behind by his hair and pull his head backwards.

The victim told police the suspect, later identified as Rebecca Cakar, 45, of no fixed address, demanded he give her money and cigarettes. The victim told Cakar he did not have any money or cigarettes and attempted to stand up, but another suspect, identified as William Acosta-Barbosa, 37, of no fixed address, confronted him along with Cakar.

NY Public Theater Actor Says Pro-Trump Protesters Left Him “Sobbing”

Candidate for Md. governor says state should start single-payer health program

Maryland gubernatorial candidate Ben Jealous (D) told a gathering of progressive activists in Western Maryland this week that he plans to push for a state-run, single-payer health-care system if he wins the governorship — assuming the federal government doesn’t already have such a program in place.

Jealous, who co-chaired Sen. Bernie Sanders’s Maryland presidential campaign last year and helped launch the national progressive activist group Our Revolution, confirmed his plans in an interview Thursday, shortly after Republicans in the U.S. Senate unveiled plans to roll back the federal government’s support for health care with a repeal of the Obama-era Affordable Care Act.

“We have to make sure every Marylander who currently lacks health care gets it,” Jealous said. “I’m committed to getting single-payer.”

Crabbers could see harvest limits as blue crab numbers drop

A 54 percent drop in juvenile crab numbers over last year means Virginia watermen could soon see tighter harvest limits for the commercial fishery.

In a Blue Crab Advisory Report released Monday, the Chesapeake Bay Program is encouraging jurisdictions to take a "risk-averse" approach and consider scaling back the fall fishery so young crabs have a chance to grow and spawn next year.

The recommendation comes as the estimate for adult female crabs this year actually increased by 30 percent over last year, to 254 million. That's higher than the target of 215 million considered a healthy female population.

But plummeting juvenile numbers dragged down the overall blue crab population by almost 18 percent, from 553 million last year to 455 million this year.

THINK SHE'S PISSED???

You have to love this lady

Alan Simpson, the former senator from Wyoming, calls senior citizens 'the Greediest Generation' as he compared Social Security to a milk cow with 310 million teats.

Here's a response in a letter from PATTY MYERS in Montana ...I think she is a little ticked off but she also tells it like it is!

"Hey Alan, let's get a few things straight !!!!

1. As a career politician, you have been on the public dole (tit) for FIFTY YEARS.

2. I have been paying Social Security taxes for 48 YEARS (since I was 15 years old. I am now 63).

3. My Social Security payments, and those of millions of other Americans, were safely tucked away in an interest bearing account for
decades until you political pukes decided to raid the account and give OUR money to a bunch of zero losers in return for votes, thus
bankrupting the system and turning Social Security into a Ponzi scheme that would make Bernie Madoff proud.
4. Recently, just like Lucy & Charlie Brown, you and "your ilk" pulled the proverbial football away from millions of American seniors nearing retirement and moved the goalposts for full retirement from age 65 to age, 67. NOW, you and your "shill commission" are proposing to move the goalposts YET AGAIN!
5. I, and millions of other Americans, have been paying into Medicare from Day One, and now "you morons" propose to change the rules of the game. Why? Because "you idiots" mismanaged other parts of the economy to such an extent that you need to steal our money from Medicare to pay the bills.
6. I, and millions of other Americans, have been paying income taxes our entire lives, and now you propose to increase our taxes yet again. Why?Because you "incompetent bastards" spent our money so profligately that you just kept on spending even after you ran out of money. Now, you come to the American taxpayers and say you need more to pay off YOUR debt. To add insult to injury, you label us "greedy" for calling "bullshit" to your incompetence.

Well, Captain Bullsh!t, I have a few questions for YOU:

1. How much money have you earned from the American taxpayers during your pathetic 50-year political career?

2. At what age did you retire from your pathetic political career, and how much are you receiving in annual retirement benefits from the American taxpayers?

3. How much do you pay for YOUR government provided health insurance?

4. What cuts in YOUR retirement and healthcare benefits are you proposing in your disgusting deficit reduction proposal, or as usual, have you exempted yourself and your political cronies?

It is you, Captain Bullshit, and your political co-conspirators called Congress who are the "greedy" ones. It is you and your fellow nutcase thieves who have bankrupted America and stolen the American dream from millions of loyal, patriotic taxpayers.

And for what? Votes and your job and retirement security at our expense, you lunk-headed leech.

That's right, sir. You and yours have bankrupted America for the sole purpose of advancing your pathetic political careers. You know it, we know it, and you know that we know it.

And you can take that to the bank, you miserable son of a bitch.

NO, I did not stutter!

P.S. And stop calling Social Security benefits "entitlements." WHAT AN INSULT!! I have been paying in to the SS system for 48 years! "It's my money" - give it back to me the way the system was originally designed and stop patting yourself on the back like you are being generous by doling out these monthly checks!

Trump travel ban: Supreme Court reinstates key parts of executive order

In a victory for the Trump administration, the Supreme Court on Monday lifted key components of an injunction against President Trump's proposed ban on travel from six majority-Muslim nations, reinstating much of the policy and promising to hear full arguments as early as this fall.

The court's decision means the justices will now wade into the biggest legal controversy of the Trump administration -- the president's order temporarily restricting travel, which even Trump has termed a "travel ban."

"Today's unanimous Supreme Court decision is a clear victory for our national security," Trump said in a statement. "...As President, I cannot allow people into our country who want to do us harm. I want people who can love the United States and all of its citizens, and who will be hardworking and productive."

Congressman Warns of Terrorist Attacks If Trump Signs Sanctuary City Bill

WASHINGTON – Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.) warned that the sanctuary city bill passed in the House of Representatives could cause a terrorist attack to occur in New York City.

Espaillat joined other members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) to express opposition to the “No Sanctuary for Criminals Act” (H.R. 3003), which would crack down on localities that do not fully cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and “Kate’s Law” (H.R. 3004), which would penalize migrants who attempt to re-enter the U.S. illegally after being deported with up to 20 years in prison. Both bills passed the House today.

According to the White House, H.R. 3003 would “restrict” the “eligibility to receive certain Department of Justice or Department of Homeland Security grants” for cities and states “determined to be in violation of federal law.”

Espaillat predicted that H.R. 3003 would have a “chilling effect” in local communities if it became law.
