A Letter To The Editor

Joe--

I'm a regular reader of your blog, I'm just more of a lurker.

Anyway, I thought you might be interested in knowing about the Ugly House Contest. (www.theugliesthouse.com) Salisbury made it into the top ten in a nationwide search! The Daily Times also did an article about it (though, I thought it made us sound slightly criminal for making a profit GO HERE http://www.delmarvanow.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200771018060. Even if it's not something you are interested in writing about, I would feel honored if you would vote for us!

Thanks for writing, keep up the good work!

Delmarva Dealings Comes Back With A BANG!

Although Delmarva Dealings has been absent for a short stint, GA is back and has expressed his opinion, (very similar to my own) on a new Post HERE.

I'm glad to see others sharing these same thoughts as the blame truly falls on Comegys, Cathcart, Dunn & Shields.

Allow me to add, IF something isn't done right language wise in the near future, the only out for the next 12 years will be a Council completely filled with Lawyers. Which now reminds me, Wilber is to blame as well. The language in this agreement should have been better protected as the City pays out some very serious cash every year to that Law Firm.

Once again, (I hate to be repetitive) but you're about to see a major problem with the Old Mall. My guess is that a select few Council Members, (even thought they were warned on this ahead of time as well) will be rescinding the TIF, or at least attempting to do so once again.

I wonder if anything will become of Sassafras in the near future as well?

"Ehrlich Helps Harris Raise $50,000 At Fundraiser"

Grasonville - Tonight, a fundraiser for Andy Harris with special guest, Governor Bob Ehrlich, brought in over $50,000 for Harris' campaign in Maryland's first congressional district. At the event, former Congressman and Governor Bob Ehrlich offered his and his wife Kendall's full support for the Harris campaign.

As the first Republican elected to the governorship in Maryland in over 40 years, Governor Ehrlich is the most recognizable and respected Republican in the State of Maryland. "Republican voters trust Governor Ehrlich's opinion" said Harris. "Ehrlich's support for my campaign against Gilchrest shows that Gilchrest no longer supports mainstream Republican values."

During his remarks, Governor Ehrlich praised Andy's fiscally conservative record while in Annapolis. In response Andy promised to "take my fiscally conservative record from the Maryland State Senate to the United States Congress." The former Governor also praised Harris' record of being a "team player" while he was Governor. "For Republicans to move a positive conservative agenda forward, we must stick together." Harris added.

The event was co-hosted by Karen Oertel, the owner and operator of Harris Crab House (no relation to Andy Harris) in Grasonville, Maryland on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Karen is a well-respected small business owner who has taken an active roll in the Chesapeake Bay Oyster Restoration Project. Karen has a passion for improving the health of the Chesapeake Bay which is one of the many reasons she is supporting Andy's candidacy.

The fundraising totals from this event are added to an impressive third quarter contribution total of $352,000. Andy Harris for Congress in the third quarter out-raised Gilchrest 3.7 to 1. The campaign also eliminated Gilchrest's cash-on-hand lead during the third quarter.

Can We Learn From This?

Wherever you go, people see signs and they just don't listen!

Look at 50% of the people parking in Handicapped Spots, or Fire Lanes. Even locations where the City puts up, (Dee, Dee, Deeee) NO PARKING bags over the Meters, then someone parks there anyway.

I mean, doesn't it say NO PARKING? If only the City followed the same signs that they have at the Asbury Church, people might listen? There's that extra sense of guilt, knowing God will judge you in the end. LOL

The next thing you know they'll be a Toll Booth at the Pearly Gates for those who broke the rules, so ALWAYS keep change in your pockets just in case, well, you know. Have a GREAT day!

Night Of The Living Zoo

Today, Mary Seamen wrote a Letter to the Editor in the Daily Times once again stating it was yet ANOTHER record year. Congratulations, seriously!

This time around, let's hope she's right. You see, for years now, Jim Rapp has stated to the Press that it was a record year, yet the dollars in the end never represented such, just look at their financial statements.

I'm all for the Zoo doing well at ANY time. However, when they take LOCAL money and use it JUST LIKE TERRORISTS DO by raising it in our Country and then sending it off to a Third World Country, this is what kills America. 50% of the money raised there is used for conservation. The Zoo Commission ruled at one point that 10% of that had to stay in Maryland and the rest could be sent out of the Country.

I don't care if 10% went out of the Country, SALISBURY and especially the Salisbury Zoo needs that money! They are burdening the taxpayers $1,200,000.00 a year and that does NOT include money raised from fundraisers such as The Night Of The Living Zoo!

Perhaps the Zoo Commission can sit back and re-think their goals with such said funds and HELP THE TAXPAYERS out this year instead?

Oh, as for the negative comments in the Grapevine, not everything negative comes from Joe Albero, so you know. I would hope by now everyone would come to realize that if "I" have something to say, I say it here and if not here I'll write a Letter to the Editor myself and put my name on it. The Zoo needs to face the fact that there are far more people who do not agree with their management skills and decisions than those hand full that only come out of the wood work when there's a major dilemma.

Getting back to the success. Over the past two or three years, Rapp mentioned how they raised $40,000.00+ from this event. Each year $10,000.00 of that money mysteriously disappeared from the thin air and their financials only showed they took in $30,000.00, (or so). Do NOT come back here and comment stating that $10,000.00 went to props and candy because the money completely disappeared, according to Rapp's figures and statements. Each year they tried to claim it went into candy and so forth but the reality is, you can't spend $10,000.00 on candy for this event, sorry, nice try. For those of you who have been attending these events for years, you'll realize very quickly that the props are pretty much the same each year. The few that change are usually made in house by the Zookeepers and they are very inexpensive. This year I will personally be asking for their minutes and financial statements as I am VERY curious to see if all $40,000.00+ actually shows up on the books for once? Wouldn't that be quite interesting if it did?

You Get What You Vote For!

The City of Salisbury & Wicomico County have comprehensive plans in which they have failed miserably with for the past umpteen years. If the Citizens of Salisbury had voted for the right people, student housing projects wouldn't be a problem today.

However, you get people like Mike Dunn, Lynn Cathcart, Shanie Shields and Shrek himself, Gary Comegys to vote in an annexation while Debbie Campbell almost begs for stronger language and she was shot down time and time again and like the title of this post says, you get what you vote for! Do you remember Comegys stating that Planning and Zoning would protect these neighbors back when they were approving the annexation?

Gary Comegys wasn't even man enough to show up for yesterday's Planning & Zoning Meeting and instead used the excuse of being in Greenbelt for the MML Meeting. Let's see, in recent weeks I have seen Gary at meetings during the day time and now even days on end whereas he also never shows up for work either. That has always baffled me how he can get away with all that time away from his normal job?

Nevertheless, Gary voted for the annexation and then went crying wolf to the City Council because they were going to change it to Student Housing instead of the original Empty Nest Apartments. I flat out told Gary at that very Work Session there was NOTING they could do at this point and then I strongly suggested to Council Woman Cohen and Campbell, stay the hell out of it. Gary made his bed, let him lie in it.

Granted, Debbie & Terry are independent women with very good heads on their shoulders but I had to give them my two cents by stating, he got into this mess, now he wants to drag you into it and bail his stupidity out of it? I don't think so!

The next time you people go to the Polls, make sure you stop voting for Idiots and instead vote for people like Debbie & Terry who care about YOU, not what sounds right to you! Need I bring up the Old Mall as yet another example or is the salt already burning that wound?

So Comegys wrote this lengthy letter making his suggestions in which the Board refused to read. They did pick one simple demand from a list of many and asked that each unit not exceed more than 250 gallons of water per day. If they did so there would be penalties, everyone agreed as it was in line with normal requests from the WWTP anyway.

There were many citizens there hoping to bash the Developers but the P&Z Board knew Dunn, Comegys, Cathcart & Shields put them in a pickle annexing the property and changing the zoning to include apartments and they had no choice but to move forward with a worthy project.

Some citizens were yelling in the hallway, they're going to flip it and make a fortune! NO THEY'RE NOT! But even if they did, who cares? This is what they are in business to do, MAKE MONEY! In this economy, that's not an easy thing to do these days.

Does everyone go to work these days and get a paycheck and think the company that hired them is losing money each and every week? That's how people act anyway! HOW DARE OTHER PEOPLE MAKE MONEY! Get a grip Folks, this is America.

I was one of the only people that stood up and defended the Developer as I believe this is perfect for Students. I believe they should be confined to a particular area with nice housing to live in. One can only hope they keep it that way. Nevertheless, perhaps people will come to learn that IF these Students actually got together and rallied against this local government they could own this City in many ways. There's nothing saying they couldn't all register here, vote for themselves into their own City Council as well as vote in their own Mayor and the whole nine yards. It would be easy for them to revolt legally and screw each and every one of you if you're not careful.

So my suggestion is, while some claim this is a College Town and others claim it's a Town with a College in it, embrace these Students before they get entirely too smart for you and force those of you so hell bent against them to move out of the area for good while they create their own little Disney right here in Salisbury. It's not a game, it could easily happen.

That being said, are you going to work a little harder next time to make sure you and your friends and family vote for the right people next go around?????
