Bottle Factory Murder Update

Kiaira Kishay Jones that was killed outside the Bottle Factory. Allegedly her accused killer is 20yr old Don Manuel Hanna, Jr., of Princess Anne.

While I appreciate the person trying to comment this information just moments ago, we have been holding this information back because we were told the SPD would be making an arrest this evening but had not received a confirmation but the info is now out.

Washington Post Ad

$104,655.60 Ad in the Washington Post

Following is an ad placed by someone with the money needed to fund a rebuttal to what Howard Dean, Democratic National Committee Chairman, said recently, that many Republicans have never done an honest day's work in their life. The following full page ad was placed in the Washington Post by a businessman named George J. Esseff, Sr. He paid $104, 655.60 to run the ad and only did it because he is sick and tired of the way that 'the rich' are portrayed by liberals these days. It is a great read.

Maybe you're a Republican?

In today's America ask a growing number of high school and college students, their teachers and professors, the self-anointed media elite and/or hard working men and women of all ethnicities the question, 'What is a Republican?' and you'll be told 'รข€¦a rich, greedy, egotistical individual, motivated only by money and the desire to accumulate more and more of it, at the expense of the environment, the working poor...and all whom they exploit...' I am a Republican - and I am none of those things...and I don't know any Republicans who are! WHAT I AM first and foremost, is a loving husband of some 72 plus years, the father of four and an American who's proud of his country, and his country's heritage.

WHAT I AM is the grandson of immigrants who risked every-thing, including their lives and those of their children, to escape tyranny in search of freedom.

WHAT I AM is a man who grew up during the Depression and witnessed first hand the effects of the Stock Market crash and the soup lines that followed. I watched as both my parents and grand parents, who had very little themselves, share what food they had with a half dozen other families, who had even less.

WHAT I AM is someone who worked his way through college by holding down three and four jobs at a time and then used that education to build a better life.

WHAT I AM is a husband who at age 24 started is own business for the 'privilege' of working 60, 70 and 80 hours a week, risking everything I had including my health, in search of a better life for myself and my loved ones.

WHAT I AM is a businessman whose blood, sweat and tears and plenty of them, made it possible for me to provide a secure living not only for my family and myself, but also for literally hundreds of my employees throughout the years. Employees who in turn were able to buy their own homes, raise their own families and give back to their communities and their country.

WHAT I AM is a man who believes in God; a God who has blessed this country... and all for which it stands.

WHAT I AM is someone who knows, if you doubt miracles exist in today's world, you need only to look into the face of those who received them....and the eyes of those who give them.

WHAT I AM is an American who's proud that his President embraces a belief in God; proud of a President who understands, as 'politically incorrect' as it may be, there is evil in this world and for the security and safety of all freedom loving people everywhere, it must be confronted...and it must be defeated.

WHAT I AM is an American who takes comfort in the knowledge that our President refuses to allow decisions concerning the very safety and security of this nation, to be governed by the political whims of foreign governments.

WHAT I AM is tired of hearing from leading Democrats who see only negativity in America ; racism in her people; class warfare in her society and 'political incorrectness' in her character.

WHAT I AM is a former democrat who now understands that it is the soldier and not the reporter that guarantees us our freedoms of press, speech and dissent.

WHAT I AM is a man who believes in the sanctity of life. A man who is repulsed by the pandering of the political left for votes, at the expense of the unborn.

WHAT I AM is a husband and father who believes in the sanctity of marriage and the preservation of the family unit.

WHAT I AM is an ex-movie goer who is repulsed by those insecure, socially inept, elementary thinking, ego-inflated 'entertainers' who have appointed themselves 'experts' in the fields of national security and geo-politics and then use their forum to attack this nation, its leaders and its actions....much to the delight and encouragement of our enemies.

WHAT I AM is an American who understands the difference between 'censorship' and 'choice.' Evidently, these individuals do not, because when these same 'celebrities' receive public ridicule for their offensive actions, the first thing they yell is 'censorship.' What they seem incapable of understanding is...the right of free speech and dissent is shared equally by those offended...as well as those who offend. I support and will continue to support those films and performers whom I choose to and refuse to support those I don't. It is my right as an American a right I will continue to enthusiastically exercise.

WHAT I AM is a voter, tired of politicians, who every time their voting records are subjected to public scrutiny, try to divert attention from their political and legislative failures by accusing their opponents of 'attack ads' and 'negative campaigning'....and the news media who allow them to get away with it.

WHAT I AM is a Catholic who loves his God and his Faith and who's been taught to respect all religions whose teachings are based in love, peace and charity. As such, I am embarrassed and ashamed of those individuals in both private and public life whose decisions and actions are devoid of any sense of character or morals; individuals who are only driven by what's best for them....rather than what's right... often times at the expense of many....including our national security.

WHAT I AM is a realist who understands that the terrorist attack that murdered hundreds of innocent Russian children could have occurred here, in our heartland. That's why I sincerely believe America needs now, more than ever, a President who sees with a clear and focused vision and who speaks with a voice when heard by both friend and foe alike is understood, respected and believed.

WHAT I AM is eternally grateful to Ronald Reagan for having the bravery to speak out against Communism and the courage of his convictions in leading the fight to defeat it; and George W. Bush for the vision, courage, conviction and leadership he has shown in America's war on terrorism amidst both the constant and vicious, personal and political attacks both he and his family are made to endure.

WHAT I AM is a human being, full of numerous faults and failures, but a man nonetheless who though not always successful has continually strived to do 'what's right' instead of 'what's easy.' A man who is challenging the religious leaders of all faiths, to not only preach to their congregations the fundamentals of 'what's right' and 'what's wrong,' but to also then hold them accountable for their actions in both the public and private sectors.

WHAT I AM is disgusted with the Courts who on one hand call the murder of a pregnant woman a 'double homicide,' but then refer to the abortion of her baby as 'pro-choice.'

WHAT I AM is someone deeply troubled by a political party which embraced a candidate whose primary 'leadership' qualities center around his protesting of the Vietnam war and his labeling the honorable men and women who fought in it, (50,000 of whom gave their lives in that action), as rapists, and war criminals (John Kerry). That same political party then stepped forward this year to block the appearance of a true Vietnam war hero, retired Admiral and former United States Senator, Jeremiah Denton, (a man who spent seven years and seven torturous months in a North Vietnam prison), from speaking before an open session of the California legislature as part of that state's 4th of July celebration. The reason Democrats gave for refusing to allow this American hero to speak before their state legislature was because of the 'conservative' nature of his views. As an American, that troubles me deeply....as well it should you. (Are you listening Mr. D?)

WHAT I AM is a man who feels the need to spend, ONE HUNDRED & FOUR THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED & FIFTY FIVE DOLLARS ($104, 655.60, tax paid) of his own money, to purchase this advertisement, in order to set the story straight. Some may say this money would have been better spent feeding the world's poor. At the risk of sounding self-serving, as an American and as a Republican, for the last six decades of my life, I have done exactly that...and more. Following the examples of my parents a and grand parents, I have used my earnings to feed the poor, shelter the homeless, provide housing for the elderly and medical care for the sick.....and continue to do so...and I'm not alone in that work.

WHAT I AM is someone who is paying for this announcement at my sole expense in hopes of opening the eyes of those led blindly by ill-informed elements of our great nation, who, through either ignorance, or malicious intent, repeatedly attack and belittle those of us who belong to a political party that holds true to the belief, 'The rights of the governed, exceed the power of the government.' For those interested, I am speaking only as a tax-paying individual who is in no way associated with the Republican National Committee, nor with any of its directors, or delegates.

WHAT I AM is a man who understands, 'the American way of life' is a message of self-empowerment for all.

WHAT I AM is an American who is grateful that our nation gives each of us the opportunity of self-determination and the right to benefit from the fruits of self achievement. (IF ONLY EVERYONE WOULD!)

WHAT I AM is an American who wants to preserve that way of life for all who seek it.

WHAT I AM is blessed to be an American....and proud to be a Republican.

Pocomoke Cypress Festival Opens Tonight... YOU ARE ALL INVITED

It's time for the 33rd annual Cypress Festival to begin in Pocomoke City at 6:00 PM tonight. Cypress Park is busy as the volunteers and vendors are making last minute preparations before the gates open. The festival site looks great with manicured grass and a new ride vendor with clean modern rides for the young and young at heart. "It seems like the entire community has pulled together to make this years festival a success..." said Roy Figgs, President Pocomoke Chamber of Commerce who sponsors the event.

FEstival site

He continued "...The rides are a higher quality than we have seen in years and we have pre-sold over $2,400 in discounted wristbands..." Personally I think the unlimited ride wristbands are a great deal for any parent at just $15 or you may purchase ride tickets at $1 each or 25 for $20 for us "oldsters" who might just want to ride the Ferris wheel.

Tonight's events feature not only rides from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM

Bingo under the pavilion starting at 6:00 to 9:30

6:30 to 7:30 Pocomoke Dance Loft Dancers will be performing on the stage

8:00 to 9:00 Pocomoke Karate will be demonstrating martial arts

Civic groups serving food

Once again there will be a variety of local fare served by Pocomoke's Civic organizations under the bridge. The prices are always very reasonable, food is good and this is one of the biggest fundraising events of the year for many organizations.

Games along the midway

There will be carnival style games along the midway which includes a dunking booth. We tried to set up a special time for the Mayor, City Manager and myself to be featured targets to raise money for a worthy cause but there was no response from City Hall on that invitation...

We do need to give credit where credit is due and one thing the Pocomoke City government does for the citizens is to support the Cypress Festival with use of the park and this year the City is paying for Saturday nights fireworks display.

The American Flag

Saturday will kick off with a special 'Flag Day' & dedication ceremony at 12:00 Noon featuring local dignitaries and Cub Scout Pack 143 will assist with the flag ceremony.

Tomorrow night starting at 6:00 PM CAT Country Radio will be hosting it's "DelMarVa Star" competition which has been likened to a sober Karaoke version of American Idol, this is something you won't want to miss.

Come on down to Pocomoke City for the Cypress Festival, Tonight through Saturday ending up with a BIG fireworks display... Please feel free to comment on your thoughts or experience and we will try to keep you up to date.

It’s Pocomoke

It's Pocomoke...

OC Air Show - Part 2

OC Air Show

What a show! The heat and haze subsided for the 2nd show today. I loved it. The husband and kids loved it. Here's a few pics of the action . . . of course, pics do these pilots no justice.

Village Of Tony Tank Comment Worthy Of A Post

Let’s see if we can put this whole situation into perspective. Information was gathered from others of the events.

The treasurer of the Home Owners Association (HOA) of the Village of Tony Tank – Mike Waldman – allegedly embezzles at least $250,000 from the HOA.

Allegedly the home owners of the Village of Tony Tank, of which Mr. Waldman is one, are told to keep quiet about the whole affair by their lawyer. The lawyer informs the home owners that he will get their money back.

The home owners of the Tony Tank are not happy with keeping quiet nor with paying some more money out to get what is theirs. Still they keep relatively quiet about the whole affair.

Mike Waldman - is/was the Chief Financial Officer of Iott Architecture & Engineering – is placed on “indefinite leave of absence” because of “questionable accounting practices”.

In response to Mr. Waldman’s “questionable accounting practices” Iott Architecture lays off some of its staff. Iott then removes its benefits (health, 401K, etc.) from it remaining employees. It then sales off equipment apparently to pay off some of the dept caused by Mr. Waldman’s fiscal irresponsibly and the owners apparent ignorance of his company’s affairs.

Mike Waldman is also a principal member in the Hobbs Road Development LLC. (along with Iott and Harkins Construction) which planned on making the vacant field next to the stadium an upscale office park.

Allegedly now the embezzled money has been returned. Plus interest and additional money (a bribe?).

Mike Waldman who also lives/lived in the Village of Tony Tank has allegedly placed his home on sale.

Since there is “no proof” the police will not do anything. Whatever happened to probable cause?

Except for Salisbury News, absolutely no one else in this town is concerned. The media outlets both paper and television have turned a blind eyes towards the whole thing. The police are not interested in it. No proof.

How many others were involved in this crime? Will any members of the HOA ever speak up? Will anyone care? Now I am slowly understanding all the little comments you hear about this town. An embezzlement scheme happened in Ocean City recently and you heard it on the news and read it in the paper. Yet in Salisbury, you hear nothing. Maybe those involved will start to feel guilty about the whole situation and make things right. I doubt it though.

It is a damn shame.

We are expecting some addition photos later today or tomorrow from SunnyInOC as well. Thanks Jessica!

Comments Galore!

Yesterday we approved 219 comments in just one single day. It's nice to see more and more people participating by expressing their thoughts and feelings on the topics we're providing.

People may not be recognizing the volume of comments flowing in but let me give you an example. In the past 5 days, (not including today) we have had 1,050 comments and what's most important is, 2 of those days are the slowest days of the entire week. You also need to keep in mind that I reject around 30% of the comments coming in.

I hope everyone continues to share their opinions, good or bad. Just as long as you're not personally attacking someone, cursing and or staying on topic, your comment will go up. There's nothing wrong with healthy debate.

Do you still think we're the Dirty Dozen now Barrie Tilghman? I'd say by the look of things we're the Dirty Thousands. I sure do hope that woman runs again for Office! I can't wait to see the voting numbers this go around. By the way, has anyone seen Louise Smith and Barrie Tilghman going "Door to Door" like they claimed they were going to do many months ago?????

A Message From Dave Comegys

"Oh Joe, you're so tough! I bet you walked right up to him and gave it back to him... kind of like you did to Wayne. Oh that's right, you hid in your house like a little bitch and called 911, then escalated the charges. You're all talk, fag.

Dave Comegys"

Yes A No

For the handful of you on Delmarva who have tickets to the Yes concert in Hershey, PA on July 16th, some bad news:

YES Cancels 40th Anniversary Tour

NEW YORK, NY, JUNE 4, 2008 -– Legendary rock band Yes announced today that the group will unfortunately be canceling their 2008 40th Anniversary Tour. The 26-city tour was scheduled to kick off in Quebec next month and run through the summer.

Said Jon Anderson, “In the wake of my recent respiratory attack, doctors have advised me to spend the coming months resting and recovering. Unfortunately, this means I won't be able to tour with Yes this summer as originally planned. I'd like everyone to know how deeply disappointed I am by this turn of events. I was looking forward to celebrating our music with the amazing family of Yes fans once again; but as we all know, health must come before anything else. Wishing you all the very best...”

Said Chris Squire, “We were all looking forward to performing for our fans after a prolonged leave of absence from touring. I am especially regretful of the fact that I know many of our fans and friends have probably laid out non-refundable airfares and hotels, etc. in order to enjoy the Yes shows this summer. Please join me in wishing Jon a speedy return to health, which at this point in time is our main concern.”

Yes frontman and founding member Jon Anderson was admitted to the hospital last month after suffering a severe asthma attack. He has now been diagnosed with acute respiratory failure and was told by doctors this weekend that he needs to rest and not work for a period of at least six months or suffer further health complications. Upon receiving this news the band has determined that their tour plans need to be put on hold.

Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase. Some have already been notified by Ticketron that a refund has been applied to their credit cards.

Salisbury Police Department Press Releases

I know that it's been a complete week since Salisbury News produced a Press Release from the SPD but they haven't produced a single Press Release the entire time. I also know there have been several concerns referencing what's going on in Salisbury crime wise but I can't report what's not been released.

Hopefully they put something up later today?

Barrie Tilghman's Dog Ate the Spreadsheet

Now that Salisbury residents officially live in an authoritarian city-state, there should be no surprise that the Tilghman administration is in no mood to provide citizens, or elected officials, with information that isn't to Tilghman's advantage. I wouldn't be surprised to find that Tilghman has city solicitor Paul Wilber working overtime (using unappropriated tax dollars) trying to figure out how to get around pesky little things like the state's public information act.

If you listened to Tilghman apologist and protege Gary Comegys on Monday night you heard the party line that requests for detailed information on the proposed water and sewer rate increases were submitted too late by Salisbury Councilwoman Terry Cohen to be delivered in time for the June 2nd work session. Unfortunately, Comegys was proven to be wrong, and possibly lying about it.

Cohen made her initial request for information on May 15, 2008, not June 2 as Comegys asserted. City Administrator (Tilghman henchman) John Pick refused Cohen's request claiming that the information she requested was "a draft report". Since the Tilghman regime never hesitated to release draft reports to council in the past - when it suits their purpose - Cohen questioned why not now. She was referred to Queen Barrie herself.

Queen Barrie wasn't too interested in providing information that may not justify the need for a multi-year series of double digit rate increases. Now she contends that "she doesn't keep drafts". Whether the dog ate the spreadsheets or she merely shredded them while depend on Tilghman's story that particular day.

Cohen, not one to be brushed aside by the great Queen Barrie, filed a PIA (Public Information Act) request. I can't wait to hear the Tilghman administration claim that the city can't comply because they don't have funds to pay city solicitor Paul Wilber. Of course there is nothing in the act that requires an attorney consultation UNLESS they choose NOT TO COMPLY with the request.

Expect a battle.

Fire Late Last Night In San Domingo

While this homeowner went to sleep last night a fire broke out in his home and the smoke detectors he claimed are inside didn't go off. He was lucky enough to wake up from the smell of the smoke and get out of the home. In the mean time his neighbor happened to be outside and noticed the flames/glow coming from one of the back windows and then the glass shattered and burst, that's when he called 911. The neighbor grabbed the garden hose and actually started extinguishing the fire from the broken window area.

Several Fire Departments arrived and contained the fire. However, the Firemen on the roof of this home had one hell of a time attempting to cut a hole in the roof, probably took more than 30 minutes to get one hole. It might be time for a new Saw Blade?

Chief Jackson Steps Down, Chief Phillips Steps Up

Although it was nice and cool in the Fruitland City Hall building last night, there were warm receptions for many in the room, including myself.

Chief Jackson was stepping down and the new Police Chief Michael Phillips was stepping in to replace the distinguished and honorable Fruitland Police Chief Jackson.

County Executive Rick Pollitt wouldn't have missed this one in his lifetime. Rick goes back some 20 years in Fruitland and joining him was the distinguished Page Elmore, State Delegate. Both had very kind words to share and fond memories.

The new Fruitland Police Chief recently retired from the Maryland State Police and I'm confident Sheriff Mike Lewis and Chief Phillips will be working closely together to create a stronger Brotherhood in Wicomico County.

It was certainly a pleasure to meet all the kind people on the Town Council and I was pleased to learn most of them are huge fans of Salisbury News.

A personal Thank You goes out to retiring Police Chief Jackson and a warm Welcome goes out to the new Police Chief Phillips. All Officers seem very pleased with the new choice that was made and as Fruitland continues to grow I'm confident the Council won't give Chief Phillips the hard time the Salisbury City Council gives Chief Webster when it comes to pay increases and having a proper volume of Officers on the Beat. Then again, Chief Phillips won't bow down when it comes to what's necessary to professionally run a strong Police Department like some other Police Chief's we all know.

I don't care what you say, Fruitland is a beautiful Town. It's no wonder so many people are flocking there.

Beating The Heat

Enlarging our pond for the horses last year was obviously a very smart idea. Our horses just can't get enough of it.

Ocean City, Meehan Make Front Page of Foxnews.com

Ocean City's Mayor Rick Meehan stars in a 50's style T.V. ad to help promote travel to the resort city. Based on the premise that the Ocean Will be gone in a million years he asks everyone to book their trips before it is too late. I thought it was well done and funny. You be the judge.

Question of the Day, Wed 6/11

From some comments yesterday regarding the half-broken A/C at the Delaware prison, I have a question for today:

Should prisoners have the privilege of air conditioning, schooling/college, ministry fellowship, emotional care, gym, medical treatments, dental, etc. . . while most law abiding working-class families cannot afford most of these luxuries? Why or why not?

Maintenance Done In City Park!

I took a nice walk all throughout City Park yesterday (June 1oth) and let me say people are listening! These are two areas that got cleaned up within 10 days of my original post (May 31st) on the topic of improving City Park. Pretty quick turn around considering that stuff had been sitting there for a long time! Thank you for tending to this issue.

I also took note of the trash receptacle and bench situation. The only benches that I saw were around the bandstand and on Picnic Island. There are literally distances of over a half mile without a bench. The whole East side of the park, the end closest to the Ward Museum, has no benches or trashcans except around the pavilion. Even some of the picnic tables are warped.

So ask where is your tax money going and who is helping out?

Also Terry Cohen is the City Council Representative for the City Park Council.

If you have any comments or questions for John Swanson the Chair of the City Park Council please e-mail me and I will forward it to him.

After

As you can see the area has been graded and cleaned up a lot. It looks so much better! Great first step.

Before

After

The area does not look as cluttered and the bio-logs are hopefully being stored properly for future use.

Frisbee Golf Alive and Growing

Frisbee Golf, Disk Golf, or Frolf has been a college tradition throughout the years. Much like regular golf the object is to take as few throws as possible to put the disk in the hole. Golf utilizes different clubs for different shots; a driver to hit the ball long, a wedge for in close to the green, and a putter for the green. Frolf has the same concept with disks for driving, approaching, and putting/chipping. Each disk can be slightly different, as with club numbers for type of spin and distance, for speed, glide, fade, and turn so one may select an appropriate disk for the shot.

For years Salisbury University Students have played on a course around campus with landmarks as holes. Now they have an official course down at Schumaker park. I went and played the course this weekend with just a regular "Ultimate" disk and it was a little tough but still a load of fun.

The course is 18 holes with two sets of tee boxes and holes for all skill levels. The course snakes around the entire park on the waters edge and through the woods and the designer laid out the course nicely. The inclusion of the trees and doglegs clearly show that having a few Frolf disks in your arsenal will help in scoring better. Throwing the disk a little off line can have the disk hit a tree and still be far out; this course can be very challenging.

Posted outside the washroom in the park in display cases is general information. There are other courses in the Parks of Delaware such as Lums and Killens. I heard there is works for a second course too in the area. Bike Sport on 13 carries the Frolf equipment.

Schumaker Park is a nice little park with a great resource for anyone to use and spend a hour or two doing something fun and productive. Frolf is has the same social and physical aspects as golf. And best of all it's free to use and there are numerous courses around the country!

Quote of the Day...Read, Digest, Repeat...It's Deep

"Philosophy should always know that indifference is a militant thing. It batters down the walls of cities and murders the women and children amid the flames and the purloining of altar vessels. When it goes away it leaves smoking ruins, where lie citizens bayonetted through the throat. It is not a children's pastime like mere highway robbery." : Stephen Crane
