Country music legend Mel Tillis dead at 85

Country music singer Mel Tillis, whose six-decade career included hits such as “I Ain’t Never” and “Coca Cola Cowboy” and who never let his stutter get in the way of him becoming a legend, died on Sunday, his publicist confirmed. He was 85.

Tillis passed away at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Fla., his publicist Don Murry Grubbs said. The music legend is believed to have died from respiratory failure after he never recovered from intestinal issues he has been battling since 2016. He leaves behind his longtime partner, Kathy DeMonaco, his six children and six grandchildren.

More Issues At Parkside High School

Joe, my son goes to Parkside High School and he said a student was tased by the Salisbury Police Department on campus. Apparently the Salisbury Fire Department was there to try and get the taser out.

We are awaiting a press release on this matter as we have heard so many different versions on this matter. One stated a hand gun was involved.

Wicomico County & Salisbury Taxpayers Are Getting Screwed From The City

Editor Note: This is re-published from February 12, 2017

Do Salisbury Residents/Taxpayers Have A Class Action Lawsuit Against The City

During my time of owning Salisbury News I have certainly had a lot to say about the three Mayors over the years. Taxpayers have been so screwed by each: First, Tilghman with the $140,000,000.00 Waste Water Treatment Plant and $14,000,000.00 Fire Palace. Then, Ireton promised in 10 years you'll be able to swim in the Wicomico River BS. Now, Jake Day is all talk and no delivery.

However, there's a LOT still going on none of you are aware of.

For starters, did you know the Waste Water Treatment Plant still does not work?

Did you know that the no swimming signs, (almost 10 years later) are still posted in the River?

Did you know that former Mayor and Staff lied when they stated they had paid the $1.00 to purchase their half of the Government Office Building? That's right, there's no record of any such check and I investigated this recently and the City of Salisbury is NOT on the Deed. Can you say Pollitt/Tilghman.

Did you know that the City of Salisbury, (Mayor Jake Day) is NOT paying their half of the upkeep/maintenance on the building, as formally agreed to in their contractual agreement?

Did you know the County is sending out ALL of the City's tax bills and not only is the County collecting these funds, the City hasn't ever paid the County back for the postage over the past 20 some odd years? Funny how the City has their own finance department too.

Oh it gets even better. Did you know the City, (under contract) is committed to pay the County $100,000.00+ a year since the building was constructed and guess what, there's NO RECORD of the City paying this rent?

I could go on and on about how much money the City owes the County but don't YOU find it interesting how none of this was ever brought up by Rick Pollitt in the past? Don't you also find it interesting how at odds Ireton and Day have been with County Executive Bob Culver? I certainly do!

To think Ireton and Day have been running to whatever press will spew their lies about how the City wants the County to pay them for Fire Services into the County. Don't you find it interesting how often the County Sheriffs Department spends most of their time within the City of Salisbury, yet the County has never attempted to be reimbursed for such services.

Yeah, Day can push skateboard parks, bike routes and pound his chest. He can sell off parking lots for pennies on the dollar, without mentioning the affordable housing units that will go in there. Did you ever think that the City may have sold one of those parking lots so they could fill the bottom floor with a new government office location?

You see, Ladies & Gentlemen, I believe Jake Day is just waiting for County Executive Bob Culver to hand them an eviction notice for failure to pay the County for not only rent but also for half of the monthly expenses. I am told they do pay their fair share of the electric bill but remember, Folks, the City agreed to a new HVAC system in the GOB, possibly costing Wicomico County MILLIONS of dollars and the City hasn't paid back their share of that expense, not a penny. Mind you, the City Council agreed to pay their share.

Since the City signed an agreement to pay the County at least $100,000.00 a year and there's no record of such payments, wouldn't you think the City budgeted this commitment into their annual budget, WHERE DID THE MONEY GO? Isn't that FRAUD? Why haven't ANY auditors picked this up over all these years?

I'm still digging and I'm digging deep. This is not a "FAKE NEWS" story yet I can assure you, none of your local media will touch it.

It should be noted that Executive Culver & Staff were blown away at my FOIA request (questions) and were completely unaware of the findings until they investigated it. I have another article coming soon with detailed answers for each question I asked.

Below is the actually paperwork from the FOIA from Wicomico.

WCSO Official Press Release On Monica Snee

Incident: Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute
Date of Incident: 14 November 2017
Location: South Schumaker Drive, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Monica W. Snee, 51, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 14 November 2017 an ongoing investigation into the distribution of controlled dangerous substances by an individual employed as a teacher with the Wicomico County School System culminated with her arrest.

Back in October, investigators with the Sheriff’s Office identified Monica Snee as the target of this investigation into the distribution of both heroin and prescription medications. Throughout the investigation, it was gleaned that Snee was involved with these illicit sales at several locations throughout Wicomico County including the grounds of Parkside High School where she was employed.

On 14 November 2017 just before 3:00 PM, deputies armed with a search and seizure warrant for Snee’s vehicle stopped her as she drove off of school grounds. During the ensuing search of her vehicle the deputies recovered over 100 capsules containing what was identified as heroin. Further search of the vehicle also revealed hundreds of oxycodone pills and a small amount of suboxone strips. Snee did not have a prescription of either the oxycodone or the suboxone nor were they in a proper prescription container.

Snee was also found to be in possession of almost $3,000.00 in cash along with a supply of empty plastic baggies.

Based on the amount of drugs seized they appeared destined for distribution by Snee.

Snee was transported to the Sheriff’s Office where she was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Snee in the Detention Center pending a bond review in front of a District Court Judge the following day. During that bond review her bond was set at $50,000.00.

Charges:
* Possession of Heroin
* Possession of Heroin with the Intent to Distribute
* Possession of Heroin with the Intent to Distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone
* Possession of Oxycodone
* Possession of Oxycodone with the Intent to Distribute
* Possession of Oxycodone with the Intent to Distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone
* Possession of Suboxone with the Intent to Distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone

Salisbury Folk Festival Saga: The Bold & The Breathless

By Thornton Crowe

Last week, Salisbury Mayor Jake Day and County Executive Bob Culver met to discuss the Folk Festival and it's moments like these that we should remember when voting next November.

As we all know, they possess a rather contemptuous relationship so it's not hard to imagine the pow-wow was strained at best. It should come as no surprise that Day tried to railroad Culver by making some rather belligerent and provocative requests, given he formally "divorced" the County less than a month ago.

Divorce is divorce unless...

Apparently, the Mayor expects the County Sheriff and Fire Stations to volunteer for the festival of doom next September. Rather ironic considering Day's rendition of "I can make it on my own" mentality when he told the County Executive last summer to take a hike! Now he turns around wanting favors... not wanting but expecting favors! If that doesn't produce a deep belly-laugh in you, nothing will...

First, the Sheriffs can't volunteer because they're in a union (National Fraternal Order of Police) which prohibits volunteerism in the collective bargaining agreement. With special events like a three-day folk festival, it is not uncommon for police to garner overtime pay. Meaning their price tag doubles for such an event. Volunteering for such an event is out of the question!

Second, Day (and City Council) clamors over the fire department situation and then he has the bad manners to expect County fire people to volunteer? I thought the Mayor hated the volunteers so why is he seeking to create them? After all the rubbish we went through during the better half of the summer over fire stations and now he wants the County's stations to work for free? If we want to work on a quid pro quo, how about the exorbitant amount the City charges the County every time they answer a call outside the city limits.

Day assumed Culver would acquiesce and give him free, free, and more free which, is rather presumptuous considering his widely publicized disdain for both Culver and the County - especially over the last few months.

Is it all Day's fault for making such assumptions?

In all fairness, no because Culver has let Day run roughshod over him for the past two years. For example, the minute the Executive discovered the City's squatting situation - i.e. not honoring their contractual amount for space at the Government Office Building - Day's Administration should've either been force to pay up or be evicted. To date, nothing has happened in spite of the City's large bills. Hence, it's only basic human instinct for Day to seize all opportunities to exploit everything he can from the County. In truth, it's Culver's continual capitulation that makes him complicit in the dysfunctional machinations.

What is the Mayor's fault is his disingenuous declarations of emancipation from Wicomico, only to turn around with hat in hand, asking for favors from which he rejected. Who, in their right mind, would go to an entity they publicly told to piss off and expect free favors? Children! While it may take a lot of gumption to do this, it shows our illustrious mayor has more balls than brains - not to mention a lack of good manners!

So there it is, folks, just another day in our local leadership's never-ending soap opera...

Editor Update: The article above this one is the original posting about the City's obligation for paying their share of expenses and rent for space at the GOB.

When Foreclosure/Eviction Hurts Everyone

When someone stops paying their mortgage and the bank takes years to finally evict them, unfortunately some people let their homes go without an upkeep whatsoever. To top it off, (for example) some people who owe even a million dollars and more decide to take just about anything and everything, including the kitchen sink.

I feel horrible for this Bank in which their customer took the entire front entrance and replaced it with shed doors and the entire kitchen and I do mean the entire kitchen, including the cabinets and granite counters. I am absolutely amazed at just how selfish some people are, leaving their neighbors with an absolute disaster, lowering everyone's property value.

I spoke to someone in the know and they told me the Bank will now sit on this particular property for a good 5 years and you can only imagine just how bad this, (at one time) $2,000,000.00 waterfront home will fall into further disrepair.

So the question I have is, while this is a Bank owned property, should the person who resided there, (for free) be arrested for theft?

I'm Asking My Viewers To Completely Boycott WBOC Fox News Channel At 5 PM

I'm asking the tens of thousands of daily viewers here at SBYNews to please boycott WBOC's Fox News channel at 5 PM.

We have grown far bigger then any new source here on the Shore and we need to fight back. To sit here on a daily basis and watch these Liberal bastards on what is supposed to be a conservative LOCAL news channel recite left wing, anti Trump crap and every other Republican is just ridiculous and guess what, YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

If you boycott this channel and everything involved in connection to this channel and do your conservative duty you will force change. How these Liberals can smack us in the face on a daily basis and we allow it to happen is just plain stupid on our part. FIOS have already cut their ties with WBOC because they refuse to concentrate on LOCAL news, we should too.

It is only fair that conservatives on the Shore be allowed to enjoy the FAIR AND BALANCED side of news and WBOC refuses to give us that opportunity. I'm tired of them saying on a Fox News Channel stories they flat out state came from CBS and other Liberal news outlets. There's nothing FAIR AND BALANCED about WBOC.

So please join me in boycotting WBOC until they commit to only sharing FOX NEWS and Conservative views. It's no wonder the only commercials this channel seems to run is mini infomercials.

Who's with me on this boycott?

BREAKING NEWS: Attention All Cambridge School Parents, 7th - 8th Grade

NYT Op-Ed: Can My Children Be Friends With White People?

In a New York Times op-ed, an African American college professor wondered if his children "can truly be friends with white people."

Ekow N. Yankah, a professor at Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, said he will be raising his sons to be wary of friendships with white people.

"Donald Trump’s election has made it clear that I will teach my boys the lesson generations old, one that I for the most part nearly escaped. I will teach them to be cautious, I will teach them suspicion, and I will teach them distrust," Yankah wrote. "Much sooner than I thought I would, I will have to discuss with my boys whether they can truly be friends with white people."

"In the coming years, when my boys ask again their questions about who can be their best friend, I pray for a more hopeful answer," he concluded.

On "Fox & Friends," Lawrence Jones said Yankah is teaching his children a dangerous lesson.

"He's literally teaching his [children] to be racist, be prejudiced, to judge people by their skin color, not the content of the character," Jones said.

He argued that college professors all across the country feel this way, and that's what many of them are teaching their students.

Day Expects You to Pay Big for His Learning Curve

By Thornton Crowe

Historically, elected officials like Mayors, didn't receive a salary because they saw the position as a civic duty to their community. Have those times changed or what?

Over the last few weeks, we've heard a lot about Salisbury Mayor Jake Day seeking a $75,000 a year raise from $25,000. Pretty audacious request for a part time, figurehead position, especially since most of his constituents don't make anything close to his proposed salary increase in their full time job.

Clearly, from all the snafus, turmoil and missteps, Day hasn't got a clue about what he's doing but he still insists on seeking to turn his part time, baby-kissing, ribbon-cutting job into a career. Is this how the inflated egos in DC begin? You betcha - because it's power politicians like Day seek - and money only validates that power. However, this power comes at someone's expense, and that someone is you! You're the one working the low-paying jobs to foot the bill for his expensive education in governance.

In truth, the City Administrator, Julia Glanz, is the person who really runs Salisbury - not Jake Day. Taxpayers already pay her in excess of $100,000 per annum so there's really no legitimate need to proffer any raise for the Mayor. Given his disastrous projects like the Main Street endless construction extravaganza, a raise is downright laughable!

Can we put chain-linked fencing and orange cones around the Mayor?

Reality dictates, taxpayers are getting ripped off at his current salary because all he's done is create problems; damage relationships with business and other government entities; and generated some of the most insidious initiatives most have ever seen in Salisbury. And all the while, you are paying for this constant drama and upheaval.

In the corporate world, his bid for a higher salary would be met with laughter and a pink slip based on his performance alone. However, our world consists of a City Council who approves any hair-brained idea that comes forth and considers hiring expensive marketing groups to "re-brand" Salisbury and signing up for multi-million dollar disasters are raise-worthy actions.

The best way to cut the quagmire of bureaucracy in government is to downsize the amount of people generating red tape.

In all honesty, given our losing streak of bad mayors, wouldn't it be more advantageous for Salisbury to switch to a Administrative form of government?

Something to think about, folks!

UPDATE: Throw The Bum Out!

The Sheriffs Department is present this morning overseeing the crew removing the personal items, (necessities) out of the foreclose/evicted home I mentioned earlier this morning.

I've delivered just some of the images of toilets, sinks and even carpeting removed from this home by the former owner. The entire kitchen, (which was huge) is completely gone as well.

While discussing with others what we all felt it would take to completely fix this home we estimated at least $1,000,000.00 and that does NOT include what someone would have to pay the Bank just to purchase it. That's how shoddy the construction is, let alone what was destroyed and removed.

The former owner has been trying to sell these items on Facebook. Everything you see in that kitchen has been removed, EVERYTHING! The walls are now completely bare and counter tops. The Bank should sue the living crap out of them in my honest opinion.

BREAKING: Senator Al Franken Kissed and Groped Me Without My Consent, And There’s Nothing Funny About It

By Leeann Tweeden

In December of 2006, I embarked on my ninth USO Tour to entertain our troops, my eighth to the Middle East since the 9/11 attacks. My father served in Vietnam and my then-boyfriend (and now husband, Chris) is a pilot in the Air Force, so bringing a ‘little piece of home’ to servicemembers stationed far away from their families was both my passion and my privilege.

Also on the trip were country music artists Darryl Worley, Mark Wills, Keni Thomas, and some cheerleaders from the Dallas Cowboys. The headliner was comedian and now-senator, Al Franken.

Franken had written some skits for the show and brought props and costumes to go along with them. Like many USO shows before and since, the skits were full of sexual innuendo geared toward a young, male audience.

As a TV host and sports broadcaster, as well as a model familiar to the audience from the covers of FHM, Maxim and Playboy, I was only expecting to emcee and introduce the acts, but Franken said he had written a part for me that he thought would be funny, and I agreed to play along.

When I saw the script, Franken had written a moment when his character comes at me for a ‘kiss’. I suspected what he was after, but I figured I could turn my head at the last minute, or put my hand over his mouth, to get more laughs from the crowd.

Think Your Personal Taxes Will Go Down if Senate and Congress Pass Tax Reform?

If you do, you've been duped.

The new tax reform bills offered by both the House and Senate will probably raise taxes for all taxpayers because nifty little things like local and state tax exemptions will go bye-bye. To date, everyone in every state can deduct their state and local taxes from their federal taxable income. This means quite simply, your taxes will increase!

Furthermore, with people who own homes in excess of $500,000, will be on the hook for all the interest paid over that amount on outstanding mortgages. Meaning, you won't be able to write that interest off. Is this promoting people to stop buying and building $500,000+ homes? Doesn't this put people scrambling to downsize because they don't want to be holding a really big tax bill in April (or October?) You betcha. It's not about just sticking it to the rich either.

What does this mean for you - Mr. & Ms. Renter? Well, your landlords will be on the hook for higher tax bills, so no doubt, it will trickle down to the rent you pay. The average rents in Salisbury is around $1,200.00; however, now, you can expect to pick up the slack Congress is going impose on your landlord.

Perhaps it would be advantageous for you, Mr. & Ms. Taxpayer, to take a deeper look into the tax bills before throwing your Tax Reform party or listening to the Mainstream Media which is pitching for the government team. If the MSM told the truth, the Markets would tank immediately!

Let's hope President Trump will VETO the final bill if it moves to his desk... but until then, get out your checkbooks because if it passes and he signs on the dotted line, your taxes are about to go up BIGLY!

MUSLIM BARBIE: Mattel Announces Hijab-Wearing Doll Based Off Of Anti-Trump Muslim

"I'm proud to know that little girls everywhere can now play with a Barbie who chooses to wear hijab! This is a childhood dream come true."

The maker of Barbie announced on Monday that they are creating their first Muslim Barbie doll which will feature a hijab and is modeled on an Olympic fencer who made headlines for criticizing President Trump.

The new Barbie, named after Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, was announced at Glamour’s Women of the Year summit and is scheduled to be available for purchase in 2018, CNN Money reported.

In a tweet, Muhammad wrote, "I'm proud to know that little girls everywhere can now play with a Barbie who chooses to wear hijab! This is a childhood dream come true."
