Giants fans behaving badly....

Last weekend, after the NY Giants loss to the Eagles, a group of disgruntled jersey-clad Giants fans clobbered a Porsche and another vehicle in the Meadowlands parking lot with a baseball bat and one of them actually taped the whole thing with his cell phone and put it out on the web! The irony here? The vandalized vehicles had already been damaged earlier in the day due to what stadium officials referred to as a "tailgating party accident". Now the police are looking for the vandals and WNBC-NY aired the video on the Tuesday evening news.See the video http://www.nbcnewyork.com/sports/football/giants/Giants-Fans-Bash-a-Porsche-After-Sundays-Loss.html .
It is very disappointing to Giants fans that "Big Blue" will not get a chance to win two in a row, but theres always next year!

Gannett Imposes 1-Week Unpaid Furlough As Ads Drop

NEW YORK — Gannett Co., owner of The News Journal and delawareonline.com, imposed one-week unpaid furloughs for most of its U.S. employees today, saying the move could help minimize the need for further layoffs amid a severe advertising downturn.

USA Today also declared a one-year freeze on wages effective Feb. 1.

Although Gannett is regarded by many analysts as one of the nation's most financially sound newspaper publishers, the economic recession and the ongoing migration of advertising to the Internet have pounded its revenue prospects.

Wicomico River Press Conference

Mayoral Candidate Ireton to address Waverly Outfall Pipes, the Health of the Wicomico River, and His Cleanup Plan "Wicomico River Project" Saturday

Salisbury—Salisbury Mayoral candidate Jim Ireton will speak at and about the Wicomico River on Saturday January 17, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Ireton will be at the base of Waverly Drive (on the Market Street side) . to discuss the new 72 inch outfall pipe being installed to drain, unfiltered, hundreds of acres of Salisbury into the Wicomico River. Ireton, who supported plans to alleviate drainage problems for Camden Neighborhood residents, but not the dumping of unfiltered runoff into the Wicomico River said, "The moral imperative that is the clean-up of the Wicomico River begins with my plan, The Wicomico River Project. This construction negates any claim to environmentalism by either the current city administration or Gary Comegys."

Ireton will also discuss the dangerous levels of nitrogen and phosphorus in the Wicomico, the continued threat of overflow sewage, and the plans to construct another 72 inch outfall pipe in Newtown, one that will run unfiltered runoff into the North Prong of the Wicomico River.

PETA Attempts To Make Fish More Adorable

"Sea kittens" is the new term being used by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, for the creatures they believe are in dire need of an image makeover: fish.

"PETA thought that by renaming fish sea kittens, compassionate people who would never dream of hurting a dog or a cat might extend that sympathy to fish, or sea kittens," PETA campaign coordinator Ashley Byrne says.

Wall Street Is Big Donor to Obama's Inauguration

Wall Street employees, as a group, have been the biggest single source of these private donations, according to the analysis. Much of their donations -- $5.7 million total -- has been channeled through financial-services executives who each have bundled together donations worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

For details, including names of the heavy-hitters, see:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123146096981566339.html

and

http://blogs.wsj.com/deals/2009/01/09/obamas-wall-street-buddies

Here's a brief bite:

"Lou Susman, a Chicago-based managing director for Citigroup, bundled $265,000 in inaugural donations for Mr. Obama, including $50,000 donated personally and $50,000 more from the firm’s employees. Goldman provided at least $175,000 in donations, primary through bundling activities by Jennifer Scully and Bruce Heyman, two banking executives there. Ms. Scully raised $100,000, but didn’t make any large donations personally; Mr. Heyman bundled $50,000 in donations, including a $10,000 contribution he made himself. Another Goldman executive, David Heller, donated $25,000."

Home Depot Says, Go For It!

This morning we reached out to Dan Silverman, (General Manager of Home Depot) and asked permission to park vehicles in their parking lot for the upcoming “Bonfire for Brooke”. Dan said, no problem at all, park all the cars you want there. Thanks You Dan and Thank You Home Depot!

Now, we are still looking for a couple of minivans to help shuttle attendees. This may not be needed but would be very important if several hundred people decided to attend.

A special thanks also goes out to Mr. Pete Richardson for donating $250.00 towards the event. I have seen Pete Richardson and Doug Marshall come together several times during these events and my hat is tipped to BOTH of these fine gentlemen. You're stand up guys who set the example of rebuilding our communities and coming together for a better cause.

Would YOU Build A $2 Mil Home In This Neighborhood?

How will investing $1 to $2M in the Bricks, and renting them out to low income families, help this desperate neighborhood? Just take a look at all of these boarded up properties and one damaged by recent fire. What is happening with them? If the City is so willing to spend money on cleaning up the Bricks why is it not cleaning up this neighborhood. Don't these houses still have owners? I bet the owners cannot afford to fix them up and rent them because of the neighborhood? Who would want to live in this neighborhood?

Remember this blight is on top of having a police substation across the street, a boarding house 2 blocks over on Railroad Ave, and all the prostitution and drugs in the vicinity. And while I was taking pictures a group of young thugs were gathering on the street flashing what I believe to be gang signs.

The Mayor and others know for a fact none of you are traveling through these neighborhoods to see just how stupid investing all this money into this property is. That's why they only show you ONE property and neglect to show you the rest. Now you know the neighborhood. Now you know it can't be saved. Will YOU allow the City to throw away tax dollars to rebuild the Bricks?

How must more damage can she cause over the next 3 months?

BEND OVER MARYLAND -- FOR BARACK

Next week's presidential inauguration of Barack Obama has already cost Maryland at least $11 million, state officials said today.

The unbudgeted spending, mainly for transportation and security, is part of some $75 million that Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia have already had to absorb, Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty told reporters.

The $11 million figure also includes costs associated with Obama's Saturday train trip and scheduled stop in Baltimore.

After Police Relent, Bloggers Get Press Credentials

Three bloggers who had sued New York City after the Police Department denied them press credentials because they work for online or nontraditional news outlets were issued credentials on Friday after the police relented, the bloggers’ lawyer, Norman Siegel, said.

The three men — Rafael Martínez Alequin, Ralph E. Smith and David Wallis — filed a federal lawsuit in November asserting that they were denied press credentials in 2007 “with little explanation or opportunity for appeal.” They argued that the system for issuing press credentials was “inconsistent and constitutionally flawed.”

Mr. Siegel walked out of 1 Police Plaza on Friday morning with the three men, who were issued press identification cards, one of the types of press credentials issued by the Police Department. Mr. Siegel sad he was delighted with the outcome, but he vowed to continue the lawsuit, saying further reforms were needed.

“This step recognizes that bloggers are 21st-century journalists,” Mr. Siegel, a noted civil liberties lawyer who has announced plans to run for public advocate next year, said in a phone interview. “It’s an important first step, but only a first step, because we still need to address the constitutional problem of who gets press credentials in New York City. The Police Department should not be in the business of determining who’s a journalist.”

Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s chief spokesman, declined to comment.

Mr. Martínez Alequin, long known as a City Hall gadfly, said he was proud to have his credentials again, as he had for many years.

“Now bloggers will have a venue to apply to get their credentials, I hope,” he said in a phone interview. “We are delighted that we won this action. I’ve been in City Hall for almost 25 years, and I’m not going to stop now.”

The Police Department issues two kinds of credentials: working press cards, for a “full-time employee of a news-gathering organization covering spot or breaking news on a regular basis,” and press identification cards, for journalists who are “employed by a legitimate news organization” but who do “not normally cover spot or breaking news events.”

The working press card ostensibly allows the journalist to cross police lines at emergencies and at nonemergency public events, like parades and demonstrations; the press identification card is “issued as a courtesy” but does not carry such privileges. Each card must be renewed annually.

The three men have varied journalistic practices.

Mr. Wallis is the founder of featurewell.com, a syndication service that provides news coverage to 1,500 publications worldwide, including The Guardian, The Irish Examiner, The Australian Financial Review and The New Zealand Herald. According to the lawsuit, Mr. Wallis had a press identification card off and on from 1994 until August 2007, when his petition to obtain the card again was denied without explanation.

Mr. Smith is published of The Guardian Chronicle, a Web site for black law enforcement workers. He has been a public information officer for the city’s Department of Correction since 1988, and had a press credential from 1996 until January 2007, when his application to renew the credential was denied. Despite several attempts to get a written explanation for the denial, Mr. Smith has not received one, the suit says.

The case of Mr. Martínez Alequin has received the most publicity. He published The Brooklyn Free Press from 1983 to 2001, when he ceased publication after the death of his wife. Then he started an online publication, The New York City Free Press, in 2003, and began a related blog, Your Free Press, in 2007. He had a working press card from 1986 to 2000 and again from 2005 to 2006.

Can you hear me coming Chiefy? Can you hear me now Barrie? Can you hear me now Daily Times? One small step at a time, one big step in the right direction.

No One Shows Up At WCBOE Meeting Last Night For Public Comment

So it was all talk and no one showed up for the WCBOE Meeting Tuesday night. I just couldn't resist heading out there to see if anyone would show up and when Robin Holloway brought up Public Comments at the beginning of the meeting, not one hand went up.

The way I see it is, chalk one up for the Board of Ed & Obama! Parents are all talk and no action, once again. My guess is, this Post will now go quiet with the tough guy Parents and they'll send their kids off to School in their Sunday's Finest. I can see the high waters now with a polyester suit, white socks with stripes and a clip on tie! Take lots of pictures, they'll last longer.

A Letter To The Editor

"Joe:

Would like to know others' views on this issue:

Last evening, my child (1st grade) came home and said to my wife and I:

"You shouldn't have voted for McCain". We asked why and the reply was, "Because he won't give any money to the poor".

When I asked where that came from, the answer was "________, the librarian at school" (name being withheld, for now)

This didn't set well with me. I don't feel teachers should be indoctrinating students this young with their own political opinions.

How do the rest of you feel?"

Ocean City Police Department Press Release

Two Delaware Men Arrested by OCPD Narcotics Detectives
For Distribution of Cocaine and Oxycodone.

The Ocean City Police Department Narcotics Unit has concluded a five month Controlled Dangerous Substance Distribution investigation with the arrest of Garrison Thomas Duncan Jr., 25, of Frankford, Delaware.

Duncan was charged with three separate counts of Distribution of CDS after selling powder cocaine and oxycodone pills to an undercover detective starting in August of 2008. During the investigation, OCPD detectives learned Duncan had two outstanding warrants for his arrest through the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office for unrelated CDS charges.

Additionally, Kaaron Mumford, 30, of Frankford, Delaware was charged with Conspiracy to Distribute CDS/Possession of CDS in relation to this investigation.

Both Duncan and Mumford were seen by an Ocean City District Court Commissioner. Mumford was released from custody after posting a $7500 bond. Duncan was released on his own recognizance, in reference to the Ocean City Police charges, however, was held because of the two outstanding Arrest Warrants from Worcester County Sheriffs Department. Mumford was transferred to the Worcester County Jail.

Friends Are Hard To Find

One day, when I was a freshman in high school,

I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school.

His name was Kyle.

It looked like he was carrying all of his books.

I thought to myself, 'Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday?

He must really be a nerd.'

I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him.

They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt.

His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him.

He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes.

My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye.

As I handed him his glasses, I said, 'Those guys are jerks.

They really should get lives.

He looked at me and said, 'Hey thanks!'

There was a big smile on his face.

It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived.

As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before.

He said he had gone to private school before now.

I would have never hung out with a private school kid before.

We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books.

He turned out to be a pretty cool kid.

I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends

He said yes.

We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.

Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again.

I stopped him and said, 'Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!

He just laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends..

When we were seniors we began to think about college.

Kyle decided on Georgetown and I was going to Duke.

I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem.

He was going to be a doctor and I was going for business on a football scholarship..

Kyle was valedictorian of our class.

I teased him all the time about being a nerd.

He had to prepare a speech for graduation.

I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak

Graduation day, I saw Kyle.

He looked great.

He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school.

He filled out and actually looked good in glasses.

He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him.

Boy, sometimes I was jealous!

Today was one of those days.

I could see that he was nervous about his speech.

So, I smacked him on the back and said, 'Hey, big guy, you'll be great!'

He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled.

'Thanks,' he said.

As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began

Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years.

Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends...

I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them.

I am going to tell you a story.'

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met.

He had planned to kill himself over the weekend.

He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home.

He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.

'Thankfully, I was saved.

My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable..'

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment.

I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile.

Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions..

With one small gesture you can change a person's life.

For better or for worse.

God puts us all in each others lives to impact one another in some way.

Look for God in others.

The Daily Times vs. Salisbury News

Did the rest of you find it interesting how the Daily Times immediately went after Jim Ireton as soon as he came out of the gate for Mayor? Here's what blows me away. They also immediately announced their support for Gary Comegys, yet they didn't even know who would be running yet and there's still a few days left to go.

That being said, again, how bias is the Daily Times and how desperate are they to get their Candidate into Office? I'll tell you how desperate. The Daily Times needs Bubba. They need the news a day in advance so they can go to press and deliver news the same day as everyone else and Comegys will let that happen. The Daily Times is also desperate for the money the City could provide for advertising.

Caldwell and Ireton are stand up men who won't play this game. As a matter of fact, my guess is they'll tell the Daily Times where they can go pound sand and if they want to be in the instant news business they'll have to get off their tails and deliver news on line in real time, just like the competition does.

In the mean time The Daily Times supports Comegys, Bankruptcy and all, for Mayor no matter who else runs. That being said, Salisbury News supports Ireton and Caldwell. They, (the Daily Times) can have that Pizza Delivery Used Car Salesman to even the playing field.

If the Mayor thought of coming out of retirement and join the race, the Daily Times can have her too because I'd LOVE to show her how badly the Citizens want to throw her and Gary out of the City and they can do so with votes. Have you cancelled your subscription to the Daily Bubba Times yet?

Will The Flood Walls Come Down When Barrie's Gone?

For what it's worth, I have been approached by numerous City Employees who just can't wait to start talking once Mayor Barrie Tilghman is gone.

Has Barrie aged because she knows so many people are going to spill their guts as soon as she steps down? I was told recently that Barrie's eyes were bloodshot and her eyelids were puffy and red at the edges. She looks like she's been on a 10-day bender. She also looks psychologically beaten. Looks to me she's met her match and $9,999.00 ain't gonna fix all that! However, there are some local Doctors that could give it a shot.

I was sitting back the other day reading over ALL of her charges against me in her complaint and then it struck me. These are ALL the topics that have ticked her off. Perhaps I'll put together a Post that discusses ALL of these issues and see where it takes us.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to hearing what the City Employees have to say because I hear the skeletons will come out of their graves and really expose some VERY interesting things. Nope, I won't be feeling sorry for this woman. She made her bed and just as soon as she's gone we're going to bring out each and every one of them, just like she has done to everyone else. She played hard ball with everyone else, now it's her turn. Remember Karma Barrie?

The Ocean City Neighborhood Watch Association recently selected Detective/Corporal (D/CPL) James Schwartz to be the honorable recipient of the 2008 Ocean City “Officer of the Year” award. Nearly 120 guests attended the event which was held on Monday, January 12, 2009 at the Ocean City Elks Lodge. The Neighborhood Watch Association is made up of six groups with residents from Caine Woods, Caine Keys II, Montego Bay, Little Salisbury, Bayshore Drive and Edgewater Avenue.

D/CPL Schwartz was a seasonal officer in 1997 with the OCPD, after which he was employed for 2 years with the City of Norfolk, Virginia Police Department before returning to the OCPD and becoming a full time officer in 1999. In 2003 and 2008, D/CPL Schwartz initiated pharmaceutical diversion investigations which resulted in the arrest of two local physicians. D/CPL Schwartz has received over 17 intradepartmental recognitions for above average performance. He was promoted to the rank of Detective First Class in March 2004 where he finished first out of 11 police officers.
