Bike Week Is Proving To Be A Huge Success

Officers direct the constant and stead flow of traffic into Winter Place Park.

This is the parking lot at Winter Place Park and it's FULL!

The crowds of people were buying up items like there was no tomorrow. Food, clothing, you name it.

The above photo is the OVERFLOW parking on the main road, (Ball Park) heading into Winter Place Park.

Thank God things turned around for this event since yesterday because this is a fantastic event for Wicomico County. Hopefully next year they reconsider the Insurance to provide beer sales at the event.

Nevertheless, get out to Winter Place Park this weekend and see all the bikes and vendors at the event. Everyone is having a blast and the Bikes are just out of this world!

The Second Amendment Explained

Local Gas Price Gouging

Joe:

Have you looked at the price gouging going on in SBY today with gas prices? In Hebron, gas went from $3.35 to $3.51 between 10:00 and 11:00. I know there is IKE in the Gulf but you can't tell me that the gas in their tanks is any more money now than when it was this morning.

Isn't there a law against this?

What a shame.

Pick The Plate Poll

Good news for Maryland Drivers and Ocean City Enthusiasts…

Soon, you will be able to proudly display your love of OC everyday with an official Maryland State Ocean City license plate. That’s right, Ocean City is getting its very own specialty plate, but we need you (our biggest fans and advocates) to help pick the design. Please participate in the selection process by voting for your favorite OC logo design in the below “Pick the Plate Poll.”

Voting will take place September 10 through October 10. The winning logo will be announced right here on http://www.ococean.com/.

1. Vintage Design – Circa the 1970’s, this vintage OC logo proudly displays our famous White Marlin. If this design looks familiar, it’s because it’s located on our water tower.

2. The Ocean City Flag – This logo waves high and above City Hall and other city property on the official Ocean City flag. You may have even spotted it before on a few bumper stickers as well.

3. Current Ocean City Logo – Probably the most recognizable Ocean City logo, this design appears throughout our website and advertisements.

Just What Is the "Bush Doctrine"

Gov. Palin was on the mark when she asked that smug TV anchor, Gibson, to specify what he was asking about in his question about the "Bush Doctrine". Here's a discussion of that term from an independent source, and it was written prior to the interview:

***
President Bush decided soon after the 9/11 attacks that the proper response was not just military attacks against Al Qaeda bases, but deposing the Taliban altogether and installing in their place a U.S.-friendly government. This presented a foreign-policy challenge, since it was not the Taliban that had initiated the attacks, and there was no evidence that they had any foreknowledge of the attacks. In an address to the nation on the evening of September 11, Bush stated his resolution of the issue by declaring that "we will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them."

Later, two distinct schools of thought arose in the Bush Administration regarding the question of how to handle countries such as Iraq, Iran, and North Korea ("Axis of Evil" states). Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, as well as US Department of State specialists, argued for what was essentially the continuation of existing US foreign policy. These policies, developed after the Cold War, sought to establish a multilateral consensus for action (which would likely take the form of increasingly harsh sanctions against the problem states, summarized as the policy of containment). The opposing view, argued by Vice President Dick Cheney, then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and a number of influential Department of Defense policy makers such as Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle, held that direct and unilateral action was both possible and justified and that America should embrace the opportunities for democracy and security offered by its position as sole remaining superpower. President Bush ultimately sided with the Department of Defense camp, and their recommendations.

These principles are sometimes referred to as the Bush Doctrine although the term is often used to describe other elements of Bush policy and is not universally recognized as the single concept. Among the signers of PNAC's original Statement of Principles were a number of people who later gained high positions in the Bush administration, including Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and Perle.

The Bush Doctrine covers a wide aspect of concepts - usually focused on various policies. They may include: champion aspirations for human dignity, strengthen alliances to defeat global terrorism and work to prevent attacks against the US and its friends, work with others to defuse regional conflicts, prevent the enemies of the US from threatening it, its allies and friends with weapons of mass destruction, ignite a new era of global economic growth through free markets and free trade, expand the circle of development by opening societies and building the infrastructure of democracy, and develop agendas for cooperative action with the other main centers of global power.

***
That term has no precise or generally understood meaning, Mr. Gibson. And if you have any sense you won't ask Joe Biden to define it, because he may never stop talking.

Uh Oh!

To my darling husband,

Before you return from your business trip I just want to let you know about the small accident I had with the pick up truck when I turned into the driveway.

Fortunately not too bad and I really didn't get hurt, so please don't worry too much about me.

I was coming home from Walmart, and when I turned into the driveway I accidentally pushed down on the accelerator instead of the brake.

The garage door is slightly bent but the pick up fortunately came to a halt when it bumped into your car.

I am really sorry, but I know with your kind hearted personality you will forgive me. You know how much I love you and care for you my sweetheart.

I am enclosing a picture for you.

Your loving wife.

Dear Mr. Obama

Chiefy Webster Back From The Chiefy Convention

Yep, no sooner does the man return from the Convention and he finds his way over to the Plaza for his desperate round of peek a boo with Joe Albero. Welcome back Chief. It's nice to have the security we never had before on the Plaza.

In 220 Days This Fountain Will Be Completely Dried Up & So Will Barrie Tilghman As Mayor

Little by little, day by day, this Fountain on the Downtown Plaza continues to dry up, just like Mayor Tilghman's hopes for reelection. Oh please try and run for Office again Barrie. I would LOVE to see her face when the final numbers come out and she lost by a landslide.

Why the NFIB's Endorsement of Andy Harris Speaks Volumes

The other day, Maryland Sen. Andy Harris received the endorsements of both the US Chamber of Commerce AND the NFIB - the National Federation of Independent Business.  Both endorsements point to the strong, pro-economic growth stance of Harris.  However, the NFIB endorsement tells us something more.

The NFIB represents SMALL business.  Sure, the US Chamber endorsement will help in fundraising.  It may even help in visibility.  It shows that Harris supports strong pro-growth policies.  However, the NFIB endorsement speaks volumes as to why Reagan conservatives not only support Andy Harris for Congress, but do so with great enthusiasm.

Back in the day, meaning when Ronald Reagan was the leader of our movement and the GOP, being pro-business meant being in favor of ALL business.  Corporate welfare was something for liberals and moderates to employ, not us.  We supported lower taxes, reduced regulation AND equal opportunity.  We understood that, while all businesses should have have their place in the market, it is SMALL BUSINESS that drives US economic growth.  Sure, your local mom and pop grocer or restaurant wasn't going to make the front page of the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal.  However, we knew where job growth occured.

Move the clock forward twenty years.  The GOP has become the US Chamber party.  It supports corporate welfare and subsidy.  Job growth is stagnant as large corporations increasingly move production offshore.  Big Business lobbies such as the US Chamber surely have their place.  They just don't represent the same same pro-growth, pro-opportunity beliefs supported by those of us who still cling to the Reagan ideal.

While the two groups may ascribe to some of the same policy solutions, they come at it from different angles.  The US Chamber supports policies that will help its members - period.  The NFIB starts with a core philosophy, understanding that advocating policy solutions is only a method of implementing that core philosophy.

I expect liberals to scream hypocrisy.  If I am so opposed to the agenda espoused by the US Chamber, how can I support a candidate endorsed by them - like Andy Harris?  Simple.  Harris represents the pro-growth, pro-opportunity philosophy that the NFIB advocates.  Groups like the US Chamber recognize that a Congress populated by far more men and women like Andy Harris is good for US business.  It's the "rising tide" analogy.  Groups like the NFIB KNOW that a Congress populated by more men and women like Andy Harris is good for America - all of us.

One thing both groups know for sure - the socialistic, anti-growth policies advocated by Harris' opponent, Frank Kratovil, aren't good for anyone ... unless you are a government bureaucrat or a leftist tree hugger.

The Salisbury Kennel Club Should Be Opening Soon

They're in their final stages of construction and it should only be a couple more weeks before they swing their doors. If you own a Pet and are interested in classes, call the number above and get involved. These people do great things for the community and if you head over to Bike Week at Winter Place Park you'll see their new building to the right, just before you turn left into the Bike Week Grounds.

I see these Kratovil Signs continue to sit in thie business frontage hallway doing absolutely nothing. I guess they can't find any takers?

Mardela Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament

"Joe, the Mardela Springs Vol. Fire Co. is holding our monthly Texas Hold'em poker tournamnet this Saturday. It starts at 12 noon. Doors open at 10:30.
The cost is $125 (I think) with $100 going to the pot. Payout is the top 7. It's very hard to get support for our fire company because we're located at the west side of the county so any PR we could get for this would be great. We hold this every second Saturday of every month."

The Democrats Strike Back

If you're a minority and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "token hire."
If you're a conservative and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "game changer."

Black teen pregnancies? A "crisis" in black America.
White teen pregnancies? A "blessed event."

If you grow up in Hawaii you're "exotic."
Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you're the quintessential
"American story."

Similarly, if you name you kid Barack you're "unpatriotic."
Name your kid Track, you're "colorful."

If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the
individual you're "reckless."
A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a "maverick."

If you spend 3 years as a community organizer growing your organization from a staff of 1 to 13 and your budget from $70,000 to $400,000, then become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new African Amerian voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, then spend nearly 8 more years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, becoming chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human
Services committee, then spend nearly 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of nearly 13 million people, sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you are woefully inexperienced.

If you spend 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, then spend 20 months as the governor of a state with 650,000 people, then you've got the most executive experience of anyone on either ticket, are the Commander in Chief of the Alaska military and are well qualified to lead the nation should you be called upon to do so because your state is the closest state to Russia.

If you are a Democratic male candidate who is popular with millions of people you are an "arrogant celebrity".
If you are a popular Republican female candidate you are "energizing the base".

If you are a younger male candidate who thinks for himself and makes his own decisions you are "presumptuous".
If you are an older male candidate who makes last minute decisions you refuse to explain, you are a "shoot from the hip" maverick.

If you are a candidate with a Harvard law degree you are "an elitist-out of touch" with the real America.
If you are a legacy (dad and granddad were admirals) graduate of Anapolis, with multiple disciplinary infractions you are a hero.

If you manage a multi-million dollar nationwide campaign, you are an "empty suit".
If you are a part time mayor of a town of 7000 people, you are an "experienced executive".

If you go to a south side Chicago church, your beliefs are "extremist".
If you believe in creationism and don't believe global warming is man made, you are "strongly principled".

If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.
If you have been married to the same woman with whom you've been wed to for 19 years and raising 2 beautiful daughters with, you're "risky".

If you're a black single mother of 4 who waits for 22 hours after her water breaks to seek medical attention, you're an irresponsible parent, endangering the life of your unborn child.
But if you're a white married mother who waits 22 hours, you're spunky.

If you're a 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton, the right-wing press calls you "First dog."
If you're a 17-year old pregnant unwed daughter of a Republican, the right-wing press calls you "beautiful" and "courageous."

If you kill an endangered species, you're an excellent hunter.
If you have an abortion your not a christian, you're a murderer (forget about if it happen while being date raped.)

If you teach abstinence only in sex education, you get teen parents.
If you teach responsible age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

If you're a Republican senator who solicits gay sex in an airport bathroom, you get to return to your job in the Senate and are encouraged to run for re-election.
If you're a Democratic Senator who is out of public office and have an affair, your political career is over and your wife who has terminal
cancer is to blame.

And finally:

Quiz question for the RNC, specifically those on the Religious Right.

Who is one of the most revered, and famous community organizers in history?

I told you they were angry.

Gotta Love The Headlines

Big Time Post At 9:00 AM

Sit tight Ladies and Gentlemen because I'm going to deliver a Post that you just won't believe at 9:00 AM and Mayor Barrie Tilghman is going to be PISSED!

Louise Smith, The Sandbagger

Salisbury City Council President Louise Smith called in the Troops last weekend from Public Works and spent thousands upon thousands of dollars sand bagging Canal Woods, her own neighborhood.

That's right, thousands upon thousands of dollars were spent in overtime for Public Works Employees to pull another Rae Sharma move, taking advantage of her position and abusing her power. Granted, I'm sure the Mayor gave the OK for her to do so but nevertheless, if you want things done, vote for a person in your neighborhood and you'll at least have a better shot at getting something done. Accountability my a$$.
