AOC Blames NYC Crime Wave On People "Needing To Feed Their Child"

The wave of violent crime in U.S. cities continued this weekend with a reported 22 shootings in New York, including one in which an infant was fatally shot late Sunday night in a Brooklyn playground. At least 28 people were wounded in the weekend shootings in New York.

So what or who is to blame for this sudden surge in violence?

As's Tim Hains reports, during a virtual town hall on Thursday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez opined about the causes of a wave of crime in New York City:

REP. ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ: I think there is something about this uptick in crime -- Let me make something super clear for everyone: The New York City Police Department has not been defunded, even with these budgetary changes that were proposed in the city council.

A.) They’re not fully enacted.
B.) They aren’t a real $1 billion in cuts.
C.) These cuts aren’t really real.

And again, they haven’t even happened yet. Keep in mind that this uptick in crime that is happening right now -- this is with a $6 billion annual police budget. So our $6 billion budget has not prevented this uptick in crime.

We have shoved more and more money every year into the NYPD -- $6 billion. And it has not prevented this uptick in crime. But let's back up: Why is this uptick in crime happening? The NYPD themselves have told a story that is disproven by their own data. They said it was because of bail reform... But they just released data a few weeks ago that among everyone who committed crimes, almost none have been re-released by the bail reform...

Do we think this has to do with the fact that there’s record unemployment in the United States right now?

The fact that people are at a level of economic desperation that we have not seen since the Great Recession?

Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren't paying their rent and are scared to pay their rent and so they go out, and they need to feed their child and they don't have money so ... they feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry.

White House: Native Americans would be ‘very angry’ about Redskins name change

WASHINGTON — The White House on Monday doubled down on criticism of the Washington Redskins for retiring their name and logo, citing a news report that found the majority of Native Americans were not offended by it.

At a briefing, press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said President Trump last week ripped the anticipated decision by the NFL team to change their name after backlash from corporate sponsors and decades of controversy because Native Americans would be made “very angry” by the decision.

“His tweet made it clear that these teams named their teams out of strength, not weakness, and he talked about the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians looking at changing their names,” McEnany told reporters.

“He says that he believes the Native American community would be very angry at this and he does have polling to back him up,” she continued.

The Catholic Church raked in $1.4 billion in coronavirus loans

The Catholic Church raked in at least $1.4 billion in taxpayer-backed loans meant to help small businesses survive the coronavirus pandemic, a new report says.

Catholic dioceses, parishes, schools and other entities made extensive use of a loophole in the feds’ Paycheck Protection Program to snag at least 3,500 forgivable loans as the pandemic scuttled worship services across the country, an Associated Press review found.

Some $200 million went to roughly 40 dioceses that have paid out hundreds of millions of dollars to victims of sexual abuse in recent years — including the Archdiocese of New York, which got at least $28 million for its executive offices while its iconic St. Patrick’s Cathedral received at least $1 million, according to the Friday report.

The so-called PPP loans were generally limited to businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 500 employees. But Catholic officials helped lobby the Trump administration to exempt religious groups from that rule, which would have disqualified many dioceses, the AP reported.

Harris Passes Army Corps Amendment to Benefit Local Waterways

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) successfully passed an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2021Energy and Water Appropriations Bill that would prioritize U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) dredging projects that are in close proximity to ongoing island replenishment projects. This language would directly benefit Chesapeake Bay tributaries that are in desperate need of dredging, such as Slaughter Creek. The specific amendment language is below:

“When reviewing projects for the FY21 Work Plan, the Corps is encouraged to prioritize dredging projects that would provide supplementary benefits to tributaries and waterways in close proximity to ongoing island replenishment projects.”

Congressman Harris made the following statement:

“I am pleased that the Appropriations Committee adopted my amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill, which prioritizes Army Corps dredging that would be located near ongoing island replenishment projects, such as Poplar, Barren, and James Islands in my district. This dredging will be critical to support island replenishment, and is also critical to watermen, recreational boating and fishing, small marinas, and local economy of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Prioritizing these supplementary dredging projects is a win-win due to the beneficial use of dredge material for ecological restoration of nearby islands.”

Grants Recently Awarded Wicomico County Local Management Board

The Wicomico County Local Management Board has recently been awarded three grants.

A grant from the Maryland State Department of Education in the amount of $25,000 was awarded for 2021 Preschool Development from birth through five year old children. The grant is designed to improve the early childhood system by building upon existing federal, state and local early care and learning.

A $2,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore Emergency Housing Response COVID-19. This will help families with children that are at risk of being evicted from hotels/motels and to assist with job placement and rapid housing needs.

The U.S Department of Justice (DOJ) awarded a grant in the amount of $58,008 for Virus Emergency Supplement Funding. This grant will develop a mobile application to address prevention, preparing for and responding to coronavirus. It will be used to pay overtime, personal protective equipment for staff while dealing with the pandemic.

Soaring disrespect for cops means big trouble for the most vulnerable New Yorkers

It happened on July 1, but the event captured onPage One of Sunday’s Post captures what’s going horribly wrong across the city right now: a lack of respect for the police, from people on the street, to politicians in their offices.

Two police officers have handcuffed a man and are putting him in their car. He’s resisting, flailing about, while onlookers taunt the police and film them from multiple angles. This is how impossible it is to enforce the laws these days.

As the scuffle continues, one man in the crowd steps right next to the action. The cop pushes him away, to keep him from interfering. Then, when the cop’s body camera falls to the ground, police say the man kicks it away.

The officer rushes the man, who proceeds to put the cop in a headlock. The crowd jeers and cheers; when the man lets go they encourage him to “get out of here” so he isn’t arrested.

What if the police officer had put the civilian in a headlock? If Mayor de Blasio still intends to sign an overreaching City Council bill, the police would be criminally liable not just for using headlocks, but for any action that constricts a civilian’s diaphragm. The mayor insists the NYPD can train officers to avoid such trouble — but any close physical struggle involves that risk. The message to police: Stay completely hands off. Don’t make arrests. And if an angry crowd interferes, step back.

Judge In Roger Stone Case Demands To See Trump Order Granting Clemency

US District Judge Amy Berman Jackson demanded more information concerning President Trump's decision to commute the prison sentence of Roger Stone - a longtime ally who avoided a 40-months in prison sentence for making false statements to special counsel Robert Mueller's team during the Russia investigation.

According to AP, Berman Jackson ordered the parties to provide her a copy of Trump's executive order commuting Stone's sentence, as well as clarity for the scope of the clemency - including whether Stone's two-year supervised release is covered by the decision.

To answer Berman Jackson's question, Trump commuted "the entirety of the two-year term of supervised release with all its conditions."

The president told reporters on Monday that he was getting “rave reviews” for his action on Stone and restated his position that the Russia investigation “should have never taken place.”

Democrats lambasted Trump’s decision as having undermined the rule of law, and Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, the only Republican to vote to convict the president during his impeachment trial, called the clemency decision “unprecedented, historic corruption.” Mueller himself defended the Stone prosecution in a Washington Post opinion piece in which he said Stone “remains a convicted felon, and rightly so.”

Although presidents have broad authority to commute prison sentences and issue pardons, the brief order from Jackson — who presided over Stone’s trial last year — made clear that the judge still is seeking information and clarity about the clemency, including the actual executive order from the White House. -AP (via WTOP)

The order was entered into the docket several hours later.

Hong Kong virologist claiming coronavirus cover-up tells 'Bill Hemmer Reports': 'We don't have much time'

Li-Meng Yan tells Fox News she is 'waiting to tell all the things I know' to American authorities

A Hong Kong virologist who fled to the U.S. earlier this year told "Bill Hemmer Reports" in an exclusive interview Monday that lives could have been saved if the Chinese government hadn't censored her work.

"This is a huge pandemic we have seen in the world," Yan Li-Meng told host Bill Hemmer. "It's more than anything we've known in human history. So, the timing is very, very important. If we can stop it early, we can save lives."

Local governments weigh major tax hikes to plug coronavirus-induced shortfalls

Property tax rates in Nashville will be increasing by 34 percent
Homeowners, beware.

State and local governments scrambling to raise money during the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic are looking to increased property taxes -- as well as wealth taxes and more -- to fill budget holes.

The proposals come as officials are trying to strike a balance. Historic job losses caused by lockdowns fueled the downturn that's put the squeeze on city and state budgets. Washington sought to offset this with stimulus payments, additional unemployment benefits, business grants and more. Any push to raise taxes too dramatically could hurt the economy even more.

But some officials argue that increases are unavoidable.

Property tax rates in Nashville, Tenn., will be increasing by 34 percent in what Mayor John Cooper described as a “painful but necessary” move that will raise money for the city, which has taken a hit during the pandemic.

NBA Panics, Backtracks After Store Sales Rep. Tells Reporter He Can’t Buy a “Free Hong Kong” Jersey, But He CAN Buy a “Kill Cops” Jersey

Daily Caller sports reporter David Hookstead on Monday spoke to a sales rep at the NBA store who told him he could not buy a “Free Hong Kong” jersey, but he CAN buy a “Kill Cops” jersey.

The NBA store offers custom jerseys where fans can choose a name with a 12-character limit.

David Hookstead contacted the NBA store after realizing he was able to type “KillCops” in the custom text, but unable to choose “FreeHongKong.”

I’m on the phone with the NBA store right now. Sales rep says I can’t buy a FreeHongKong jersey, but I can buy a KillCops jersey if I want one.

The NBA store sales rep. clearly confirmed to the reporter that he CAN buy a “Kill Cops” jersey, but he cannot buy a “free Hong Kong” jersey.

A month after Surgisphere paper retraction, Lancet retracts, replaces hydroxychloroquine editorial

In early June, as controversy swirled over a high-profile study of hydroxychloroquine and COVID-19, Christian Funck-Brentano started receiving aggressive emails, texts and tweets.

Funck-Brentano, professor of medicine and clinical pharmacology at Sorbonne Université and Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital in Paris, and a colleague had published an editorial in The Lancetalongside the study — purportedly based on data from a company called Surgisphere — citing the results and sounding an alarm about the cardiac risks of hydroxychloroquine. Within days, that paper was retracted, along with a paper in The New England Journal of Medicine about different medications also allegedly based on Surgisphere data.

“I’m 65 and I have no real concerns,” Funck-Brentano told Retraction Watch, but his co-author was in an earlier stage of his career, and Funck-Brentano wanted to handle the situation in a way that would cause the least collateral damage.

uomo ‘Too Powerful and Too Feared’ to Be Held Accountable: Report

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) is “too powerful and too feared” to be held accountable, according to a report by Fox News’ Janice Dean on what she is told privately by reporters and others.

“I have received texts, emails and DMs from people (some reporters) who say that Cuomo is too powerful and too feared in New York that he will never be held accountable for his terrible (and deadly) orders during this pandemic – no matter how glaring the evidence…You can tell during his interviews and press conferences. His indifference, bully behavior and lack of empathy shows he knows most won’t go after him. But I will keep going against the giant cuomo machine. Because I have to. I owe it to my family and my husband’s parents.”

Governor Hogan Presses Local Leaders to Enforce Public Health Requirements In Bars and Restaurants

State Health Officials Have Connected An Increasing Number of COVID-19 Cases
to Non-Compliance
Local Leaders Must Enforce Physical Distancing and Capacity Restrictions at
Bars and Restaurants
Penalties Should Include Fines, Actions Against Licenses, and ClosurePositivity Rate Among Younger Marylanders Continues to Rise
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today directed local leaders to step up enforcement of public health requirements in bars and restaurants across the state. State health officials have connected an increasing number of COVID-19 cases to non-compliance with face covering and physical distancing rules.
“The vast majority of bars and restaurants in our state are in compliance, but some are flagrantly violating the law and endangering public health,” said Governor Hogan. “You have the responsibility to enforce these laws. Violators should be warned, fined, have actions taken regarding their licenses, or closed if necessary. Local health departments, local liquor boards and inspectors, and local law enforcement agencies must work together to ensure public health is protected.”
As of today, the positivity rate among Marylanders under 35 is now 84% higher than it is for Marylanders 35 and over.
  • Bars and restaurants are open for seated service only with physical distancing and capacity restrictions. Customers must be seated at least six feet apart from other guests. Standing and congregating in bar areas is strictly prohibited.
  • All staff must wear a face covering while working and interacting with customers.
  • For facilities with booths, every other booth must be closed.
  • No more than six people may sit at a table.
In recent weeks, at least 12 other states have moved to re-close bars and restaurants statewide or in targeted localities following COVID-19 spikes and outbreaks.
“Our continued economic health and recovery depend on the active and aggressive local compliance and enforcement of these critical public health measures,” continued the governor. “We cannot allow a small segment of willful violators to squander the collective efforts of the overwhelming majority of Maryland citizens and businesses.”

Black Lives Matter Sociopaths Raid Facebook Page of Young Mom Murdered for Saying ‘All Lives Matter,’ Torment Her Family

Black Lives Matter sociopaths are currently raiding the Facebook page of Jessica Doty Whitaker, the young mother who was murdered after saying “All Lives Matter,” celebrating her death and mocking her grieving relatives.

Doty Whitaker was walking by the canal in Indianapolis after a Fourth of July celebration with her fiance and two friends when they were approached by a group of people saying that “Black Lives Matter.” Someone in the group had allegedly used the word “n-gga” speaking to their friends in a non-disparaging way, which the group took offense to.

More Than Half Of COVID-19 Patients In New Study Have Heart Damage

Now, we can add heart damage to the list of common post-COVID complications, according to a new study.

The long and short of it: Older individuals with pre-existing heart issues, or those with 'sleeper' heart conditions which have gone undiagnosed, are at the most risk.

While we've known since at least February that coronavirus was suspected of causing - or contributing to - cardiac problems, the extent has been largely unknown. In April, The Harvard Gazette detailed the "multiple ways" COVID-19 may spark cardiac damage;

First, people with preexisting heart disease are at a greater risk for severe cardiovascular and respiratory complications from COVID-19. Similarly, research has shown that infection with the influenza virus poses a more severe threat for people with heart disease than those without cardiac problems. Research also shows that heart attacks can actually be brought on by respiratory infections such as the flu.

Second, people with previously undiagnosed heart disease may be presenting with previously silent cardiac symptoms unmasked by the viral infection. In people with existing heart-vessel blockages, infection, fever, and inflammation can destabilize previously asymptomatic fatty plaques inside the heart vessels. Fever and inflammation also render the blood more prone to clotting, while also interfering with the body’s ability to dissolve clots — a one-two punch akin to throwing gasoline on smoldering embers. -The Harvard Gazette

Last month the President of Burundi died of a sudden heart attack at the age of 55 after falling ill with coronavirus.

Trump Vindicated? New Peer-Reviewed Hydroxychloroquine Study Shows Reduced COVID-19 Mortality

A new large-scale study conducted by the Henry Ford Health System concluded that hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug touted by Trump as a potentially game-changing treatment for the coronavirus, successfully lowered mortality rates for hospitalized coronavirus patients. The results were published Thursday in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Infectious Diseases.

Just The News reported on its findings:

The study examined 2,541 patients who had been hospitalized in six hospitals between March 10 and May 2, 2020.

More than twenty-six percent (26.4%) of patients who did not receive hydroxychloroquine died.

But among those who received hydroxychloroquine, fewer than half that number — 13% — died.

More than 90% of the patients received hydroxychloroquine within 48 hours of admission to the hospital. Scientists say giving the drug early during illness may be a key to success.

The study also determined that there were no adverse effects on the heart, despite previous reports.

Will the mainstream media give this study the attention it deserves? I bet they won’t.

County Outdoor Citizen Warning/Alert Siren System

The warning system is designed to alert residents and visitors of Wicomico County about an imminent hazard to include weather-related danger such as a tornado warning. Wicomico’s siren system consisting of 14 sirens located at local fire departments and three (3) maintained by the Wicomico County Department of Emergency Services (DES) can be activated for specific affected areas in the county. In the event of an imminent hazard the alert tone – which differs from fire station alarms – will sound for a sustained 2 minutes. They are tested at 6:30 pm the first Monday of every month for 10 seconds. When the sirens sound, citizens should seek shelter immediately and then tune into local news media for additional information. Citizens should not call 9-1-1 to determine the hazard causing the activation.

Residents of the County can obtain additional information on the sirens as well as other emergency preparedness topics by utilizing the DES web site at in the section entitled Emergency Preparedness Topics or by calling 410-548-4820 for information. Biden Unveils $2 Trillion Plan To Move US To "100% Clean Energy" By 2035

One of the more laughable campaign promises embraced by Democratic primary opponents during the 2020 primary campaign was a promise - featured prominently in AOC and Sen Markey's "Green New Deal" policy proposal - to move America to "100% clean energy" by 2035.

Many who read this initially probably don't understand that yes, they're really calling for the entire US economy to move off of fossil fuels by 2035. Accomplishing such a rapid, radical shift would require a font of disposable capital that would only really make sense under an MMT framework where debt can be accrued without limit and without ever intending for debts to be repaid.

Now, that policy commitment has become a featured component of Biden's economic spending plan, which he plans to unveil on Tuesday during another speech. Except unlike the plan he embraced in the primary, this one will include an additional $300 billion commitment to finance the left's green economy dream.

Here's more from BBG:

Joe Biden on Tuesday will call for setting a 100% clean-electricity standard by 2035 and investing $2 trillion over four years on clean energy, three people familiar with his plan said Monday.

The Democratic nominee’s new commitments mark a clear shift toward progressives’ environmental priorities and cutting the use of fossil fuels. The people briefed on his plan spoke on the condition of anonymity ahead of its formal rollout Tuesday in Wilmington, Delaware.

The $2 trillion in spending across four years is in place of the more modest $1.7 trillion over 10 years plan that Biden proposed last year while fighting for the nomination. Most of that investments in the new proposal would be one-time costs with the goal of spending the money to the maximum extent possible during those four years.

Biden uses quote notably uttered by Mao Zedong during big-money fundraiser: reports

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden raised eyebrows on Monday when he echoed rhetoric that was famously used by Chinese communist dictator Mao Zedong, according to reports.

Biden held a digital fundraiser featuring former President Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. According to The Atlantic's Edward-Isaac Dovere, the former vice president "cited an old Chinese proverb" while discussing economic relief for women during a Q&A session.

“We’ve got to get real economic relief into women’s hands now,” Biden reportedly said, later saying that “women hold up half the sky.”

Record numbers of Americans try to buy guns

Coronavirus pandemic, civil unrest, calls to defund police bringing in new buyers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Americans are buying guns in record numbers.

The new coronavirus pandemic, civil unrest after the killing of George Floyd and the ensuing movement to defund police are bringing in new buyers worried about their personal safety, according to buyers, store owners and gun experts.

Gun sales began rising to unusual highs in March, as coronavirus cases began surging in the U.S. and government-ordered lockdowns led to the highest unemployment levels since the Great Depression. The Federal Bureau of Investigation processed 7.8 million background checks for gun purchases from March to June, according to National Shooting Sports Foundation, a firearms industry trade group.

Daniel Lewis Lee executed for torturing, killing Arkansas family in 1996, first federal execution in 17 years

A white supremacist who tortured and killed an Arkansas family-- including an 8-year-old girl-- was executed early Tuesday morning in Indiana.

Daniel Lewis Lee, 47, was injected with a lethal dose of pentobarbital at 8:07 a.m., just hours after the Supreme Court greenlighted the first federal execution to take placesince 2003.

The slayings happened in 1996 after Lee and an accomplice robbed and shot William Frederick Mueller, his wife Nancy Ann Mueller and his 8-year-old stepdaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Powell in Arkansas.

Mueller was a local gun dealer and the bodies of him and his family were discovered five months after they went missing, with plastic bags covering their heads and sealed with duct tape, dumped in the Illinois bayou.

Back and forth legal proceedings stalled the execution at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana several times.

Maryland Governor Blasts Pelosi’s Indifference to Baltimore Vandalism

Maryland governor Larry Hogan (R.) on Thursday said Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) has "lost touch" with her childhood city of Baltimore after she expressed indifference about the toppling of a statue of Christopher Columbus.

"It’s disappointing that Speaker Pelosi has lost touch with the Baltimore community that her family served," Hogan wrote on Twitter. "While efforts towards peaceful change are welcome, there is no place in Maryland for lawlessness, vandalism, and destruction of public property."

While efforts towards peaceful change are welcome, there is no place in Maryland for lawlessness, vandalism, and destruction of public property.

— Governor Larry Hogan (@GovLarryHogan) July 9, 2020

Pelosi said Thursday that "people will do what they do" after a reporter asked about the statue being brought down from its perch in Little Italy and tossed into the harbor. The statue had to be recovered piecemeal by divers organized in part by Baltimore's Italian-American community—Pelosi's own community from her childhood. Both her parents held public office in the city, and she helped her father, Thomas D'Alesandro Jr., with his campaign for mayor.

"We will not let mobs ‘do what they do.' They do not represent Baltimore," Hogan said.

Pelosi had tried to pass the vandalism off as a community decision during her press conference.

RED NOVEMBER: How the Democratic Party Has Brought America to the Brink of Socialism

The Democrat Party’s presidential primary marked a significant shift, as socialist ideas – openly embraced by the likes of Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) — took center stage, bringing the far-left’s radical agenda to the mainstream party.

Progressive leaders worked overtime to remove the taboo around the word “socialism” and fundamentally altered the Democratic Party’s future – a future they hope to impose on the nation as a whole, as Breitbart News senior editor-at-large Joel B. Pollak details in his upcoming book, RED NOVEMBER.

The book is based on Pollak’s own experiences covering the Democratic Party presidential primary on the campaign trail.

Maxine Waters: Trump, Supporters Believe It Is Their Right to Ensure Blacks Don’t Have Power

Sunday on MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) said both President Donald Trump and his supporters believe they have a right to “ensure that blacks and people of color and others do not rise to any level of influence and power.”

Host Joy Reid said, “Roger Stone found guilty by a jury on seven federal criminal counts, no jail time. Kalief Browder, accused of stealing a backpack couldn’t post bail, spent three years at Rikers Island awaiting trial, ultimately committed suicide after release. We have two justice systems in our country. This is the reason that the Black Lives Matter movement has taken hold, that there are two systems of justice for the rich, the poor, the white, the Black. What do you make of those who are still to this day criticizing Black Lives Matter, such as Senator Kelly Loeffler? What do you make of that, that they are still doing that?”

The Case Against Michael Flynn Peddled by Anti-Trump DOJ Officials Suffered *The* Kill Shot Today

It's over. The game is over. As we’ve said before, this was the anti-Trumpers’ final battle. The prolonged legal fight over Michael Flynn was their Waterloo—and just like with Napoleon, it ended in total defeat. All that’s left is the judge in the case, Emmet Sullivan, further embarrassing himself by appealing the D.C. Court of Appeals ruling that he toss the criminal case against the former Trump official. He’s not. He can’t because he knows he’s going to eat it. Sullivan had accused Flynn of being a traitor in open court and was not one to hide the fact that he was going to send Flynn away to prison for a term much longer than what the Mueller team had recommended. These folks are arrogant. They had to admit that they’re wrong.

More and more documents that have been revealed show a history of prosecutorial misconduct by those at the Department of Justice. Top FBI officials, like disgraced top brass men Andrew McCabe and James Comey, were out to get Flynn no matter what. They had no evidence to rope him into a federal investigation let alone sit him down for an interview, of which the agents involved said they walked away feeling that Flynn did not lie to them. And yet, Flynn had the screws put to him when Robert Mueller became special counsel, who took over the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation into Russian collusion and forced him into pleading guilty to a bogus “lying to the FBI” charge.
