LIVE from Cherrystone Campground In Virginia

Oh, I'll Give You Evidence All Right!

For those of you who were interested in Urban Salisbury and why the Mayor scrapped allowing the Council any chance to see their Master Plan, here it is.

The Mayor and Louise Smith REFUSED to allow the Council to see what Urban Salisbury had done because the Mayor, Comegys & Smith knew this was the perfect plan. However, the Mayor demanded they get the actual Master Plan and Urban Salisbury pretty much said, shove it!

Allen Hope said in last night's meeting, if the City wants the Master Plan they can fork up $100,000.00 and we'll give it to them. Until then, we're not giving up anything! Good for you Allen! He also said it was the best plan he had ever seen in his 36 years of doing this kind of work.

12th Annual James M. Bennett High "Battle of the Bands" Friday, April 3, 7 p.m.

The 12th Annual James M. Bennett High School “Battle of the Bands” will be held on Friday, April 3rd at 7pm in the Bennett Auditorium in Salisbury. It is open to any ‘garage band’ that has at least one member of the band presently attending James M. Bennett High School. Cash prizes of $150, $125 and $100 will be awarded for the top three bands, as well as a $25 prize for the top performer in each specialty: Lead Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Vocals and Auxiliary.

Each band has 10 minutes to perform on stage. These songs can be cover songs from other bands and/or original music. To qualify to perform, each band had to submit an audition tape with the songs they would perform and lyric sheets.

A panel of judges was selected by members of the JMB Band. Criteria for judging will include ensemble balance, timing, interpretation of genre, overall difficulty, format and showmanship. Winners will be announced at the end of the show. In past years, there have been 12 to 17 bands that have participated in this event.

This event is a fund-raiser for the James M. Bennett High School Band and Color Guard. This fund-raiser is run by the members of the JMB Band, from the planning and the hiring of the judges, to the stage set-up and sound check, and finally, the actual running of the show. Advertising, programs and concessions are also done by JMB Band members. The proceeds from “Battle of the Bands” are used to help purchase the field show for next year.

Tickets are $8, and are available to the public at the door. Call 410-677-5141 for information.

Just ANOTHER LIE From The Salisbury Fire Department

Just as we thought, the new $40,000.00 Salisbury Fire Department Chase Vehicle with the Police Package on it was handed over to Bill Gordy yesterday. The LIES about it being ordered for Hoppes was just that, a lie.
Gordy received a new vehicle just over a year ago but while Mayor Tilghman and Gary Comegys have been on a massive spending spree, (no doubt a gift for Gordy's work on the new Fire Station) the kickbacks are flying in. Mike Dunn gets a new job, (should Comegys win the election) and I'm sure there's something lined up out there for the former Mayor as well.
So there you have it Folks. Even though Firefighters were trying to sell everyone on the fact that this vehicle was for someone else, keep your eyes and cell phone cameras out for this new vehicle and the driver behind the wheel. These guys couldn't tell the truth if their lives depended on it. And you wonder why I personally think See & Gordo are scumbags. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a liar.
Thanks for showing us you can't be HONEST either Gary Comegys. By the way Gary, it's been more than 30 days since I asked the Council on PAC 14 if the Council Members still denounce the Blogs. Looks like another law has possibly been broken. You see Folks, they know I have evidence they're tied in with the nastiest Blogger ever to hit the Blogosphere and have been using that Blog to go after Jim Ireton. Come on Gary, show everyone what you're really all about and then let me post pictures of evidence.

The Rinnier Letter

Sent To The Governor's Office By A Citizen Of Salisbury

FROM: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

TO: Karen Taylor, Office of the Governor of Maryland

Fax: 1-410-974-5735

SUBJ: Campaign Mailing, Salisbury, MD Local Elections

ENCL: Subject Mailing

MESSAGE:

My daughter received this in today's mail. She gave it to me. I am shocked that some are reduced to mailing out such vile stuff as this.

I hope that you are able to determine who it is that is responsible and have some legal recourse to rein them in.

Further, this is the sort of thing that we have been exposed to for several years around election time, some of it coming from the office of the sitting mayor, albeit much more subtle and guarded, yet just as effective. This slime has to stop!

If no statement is made by the Governor's Office before next Tuesday's election, the contents of this letter will, by default, be validated by the State, and its intended effect come to pass.

Please act quickly!

As Many As 13 Dead In N.Y. Shooting

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (April 3) - A gunman opened fire at an immigration services center in downtown Binghamton on Friday, killing as many as 13 people before authorities found him dead, officials said.

The Letter Only A Few Have Seen

To my fellow Board Members and Friends of Urban Salisbury

As you are all aware, we have been evaluating our financial situation since last fall, attempting to find a way to stay afloat through the end of this fiscal year. Despite many attempts. I am sorry to say that Urban Salisbury will not be financially viable after April 30, 2009.

The City was unwilling or unable to provide us with $20,000 to allow us to operate until the end of June 2009.

Increasing donations is simply not possible in this recession. Furthermore, this is not really how a Main Street organization should be funded.

Another suggestion was that Urban Salisbury take over and operate the Salisbury Marina. Not only were we not created to do this; we do not have the staff nor the financial resources to make the Marina a success.

Our 2009-2010 funding application and our Power Point success story were not allowed to be put on the Council agenda.

The Candidates at the Mayoral Forum we hosted clearly demonstrated a lack of understanding of the role of Urban Salisbury and a lack of support for viable downtown revitalization.
This lack of understanding and support is truly a shame. There have been many positive outcomes over the years including Park 'n Flea, the Sculpture Collection, the Arts & Entertainment District designation and Facade Grant program, to name just a few. More are on the way. We had intended to present a viable, affordable master plan for Main Street. We were not going to ask the City to fund construction. We wanted Council's endorsement and support of our efforts to generate financial assistance.

As I stated earlier, Urban Salisbury's future, as a Main Street organization, is pretty much doomed. That being the case, I have advised Allan Hope, our Executive Director, to seek employment elsewhere, since we will no longer be able to pay a salary past the end of April. Allan has done a great job for us and we hate to see him leave our community.

I am also announcing that I am resigning as President, as of April 30, 2009. I regret this, since I am a strong supporter of the downtown, but I see no effective pathway to lead this organization forward.

Thank you, Bruce Patterson, President, Urban Salisbury, Inc.

Ladies & Gentlemen, Mayor Tilghman Threw a FIT when she saw this letter. I'd love to hear what YOU think.

The $1.3 Million Endorsement

Salisbury's slumlords simply LOVE Barrie Tilghman.  Unfortunately, Barrie realized that she couldn't be re-elected.  So the slumlords and their dirty little guild, SAPOA, are placing all of their hopes behind Barrie's chosen successors - Gary Comegy, Muir Boda, and Shanie Shields (aka the BARRIE COMEGYS ticket).

Why do Salisbury's ruling class love Barrie and her heirs so much?  Tilghman has basically refused to enforce city zoning and building codes (at least regarding her SAPOA pals).  What's a double-digit tax increase among friends when you can rape the city like the Vandals in Rome?  SAPOA is quite confident that Comegys, Muir, Shields (along with Princess Louise Smith) will continue to deliver.

... This is especially true if your name is Rinnier.  Besides all of the special treatment afforded SAPOA, the Rinniers were able to pocket a cool $1.3 million at taxpayer expense thanks to Barrie Comegys.  Remember the Marley Manor lift station?

Perhaps that's why the Rinniers have illegally spent money to benefit the campaigns of Comegys, Boda and Shields.  Keep in mind, that you can only spend $250.  I find it hard to believe that the Rinniers were able to print all of these letters and paid people to distribute them throughout the Rinnier rental empire for $250.

Maybe they expect another fat subsidy if their candidates prevail on Tuesday.  We think the taxpayers of Salisbury's have paid enough.

OMG, You Have To See This! Great Management Skills Barrie Tilghman!

GO HERE to see just how well Mayor Barrie Tilghman has managed the City. Mrs. I take full responsibility. Can YOU tell me what's missing.

Are You Reading This FBI?

Negative campaign docs from Concerned Citizens of Salisbury

"Joe,

In today's mail I received an envelope with a letter and 2 documents concerning Jim Ireton.
The purpose of sending these documents seems to be a negative campaign strategy.

The enclosed letter has a typed signature of "CITIZENS WHO CARE".

The return address on the envelope is:
Concerned Citizens of Salisbury
11169 Hodson Rd
Dames Quater, MD 21821

The envelope was actually mailed from zip 22031 - Fairfax, VA!

I believe I know what the "Concerned Citizens of Salisbury" are all about.

But notice the blatant mistakes in the return address:
11169 (no business or residence at this address per tax assessment database)
Hodson is actually Hodson White
Dames Quater is actually Dames Quarter

So I cannot respond in writing to them with my disgust at using such issues in an attempt to influence the election, nor my further disgust that the sender is not evena resident of Salisbury.

Do you know who is actually behind this "organization" or who might have used this tactic to influence the election?

I can scan in and send you the 3 pages and envelope if you don't already have them."

Are you proud of yourselves Gary? How about the rest of you who have publicly challenge Jim Ireton with lies because, oh, lets say you might lose your job once Jim is elected. I'm telling you Folks, the Citizens won't stand for this and I personally believe it will backfire on them just like every other time they tried pulling these kind of stunts.

The FBI Has Been Called In To Investigate The Comegys Camp

"I received the most despicable piece of anti-Ireton mail today. Of course, it was sent anonymously, purportedly from the "Concerned Citizens of Salisbury" with a mailing address in Somerset County. Those who arranged for this horrendous mailing obviously do not have the brains to be ashamed of themselves. I do believe that most of the city voters will see this smear for just what it is and file it in the appropriate receptacle."

Ladies & Gentlemen, the Comegys Campaign has gone way too far over the top this time. The message above is from a loyal reader. Between the Slumlords, Barrie Tilghman, Mike Dunn, Jonathan Taylor, the Cathcart's, Richard and Gary Comegys, they have defamed Jim Ireton so bad they, (whomever is accountable) deserve to go to Jail.

There are smear letters going around Salisbury like you've never seen before and guess what, you've never once seen Mr. Comegys denounce these letters because he knows about them and he'll do whatever it takes to win this election, even if it means lying. "No Joe, I'm not text messaging." "No Joe, I didn't park in a Handicap space at the Flea Market." Man, I could go on and on with his lies that were flat out caught on PAC14.

Take this to the Bank Folks, vote for Jim Ireton. You have not seen Jim Ireton smear anyone. You have not seen Jim Ireton lie. He has faced the cameras every time he has been challenged and has handled their charges with class. This is the man you want representing your City and going to Annapolis. Gary Bubba Comegys would go there and say, Uh, Duh, Well, Uh, Can We, Uh, You Know, Uh, You Know What I Mean.

Throw those mailers full of lies into the trash and remember that people representing Gary Comegys sent them out. They will say and do anything to win. The FBI is now being called because they sent them through the mail and slandering someone through the mail is a Federal Offense.

Comegys Camp Does It Again!

It is a violation of Federal Law to hand place campaign materials in a mailbox, yet...

Reader Reports Voter Fraud

We received the following email from a loyal reader and was asked to publish it here in an effort to share the information.

Hello,

I read in the Daily Times the State Police are not going to investigate the voter fraud, voter bribery and wiretapping allegations. I became rather distraught as I read this and thought I would take this issue to the highest level in the state. Someone has got to open their ears in Annapolis and do something. I started with the Board of Elections in Annapolis, they were all out to lunch. I then decided I'd go to the top of the State House and called the Governors Chief of Staff, Michael Enright. They could not believe what they were hearing. I gave them the web addresses of our local TV stations, WBOC and WMDT,the Daily Times and the web address to this blog so they can have some idea of what is going on. While speaking or emailing these offices be sure to name names. Let us all stop hiding from these tyrants. You will not have to give your name or any contact information. Tell them everything you know. It is imperative we make those in the position of power help us now. Let them know it is time they come down to the Eastern Shore and clean house instead of only showing up when running for election or re-election.

If we are ever to put an end to this we need to speak up. Now is the time to speak up. I hope you will publish the addresses and contact information I am providing.

Let's take our city back now.

It Looks Like It's Back To Motor Vehicle Again Today For John Robinson

While John Robinson stated he had simply made a mistake yesterday when we exposed his company box truck having illegal tags on it, the vehicle above in this photo is reported to be yet ANOTHER one of John Robinson's cars. Now from one day to the next, we just never know where the man resides. Is it Wicomico County? Two years ago he said he changed his residence to Worcester County. Hmmmm, let's see, these tags are from PA. Is there a Worcester or Wicomico County in PA?

According to sources John Robinson has been driving this vehicle for several weeks to work. If you live in the state of Maryland for more than 30 days, your tags and driver's license must be changed to that state. That is, unless you're a college student or in the military.

So John, I strongly recommend you hop in another car before things get too busy and visit the DMV and get these tags changed. Some people never seem to learn. Here comes the excuses!

Comegys Favors Landlord Fee Increase

Buried in the back of this article from today's Daily Times, mayoral candidate Gary Comegys says "he cannot guarantee fees will not increase." He continues, "If you'll recall [in 2008] I worked with my colleagues to bring that [property tax increase] to 9 percent."

Even though rumors are being circulated, Jim Ireton, defends himself and is quoted as saying "I have never said I want to raise the landlord licensing fee."

Let's review:

Gary Comegys has raised taxes and fess and cannot guarantee he won't do so again.

Jim Ireton has no interest in raising taxes or fees.

The article also says "[Debbie] Campbell...is not trying to increase fees."

So there you have it. Did the Daily Times actually get it right for once? You wouldn't know it by reading the first part of the article where they actually lay out all the rumors, speak only of Jim Ireton, and make it seem like it's all about him. But if you actually read the whole thing and sift through the bull, Gary is clearly in favor of raising fees and taxes. Jim is not. Case closed.

I also found it interesting that the landlords now admit to trying to influence the vote of their tenants. And I quote:

"Following an example set forth by Richard Insley earlier this year, another landlord has drafted a letter to tenants requesting their vote go to Comegys, Boda and District 1 incumbent Shields."

In the letter, which we have posted before, the landlords claim the city has imposed a "renters tax" which is entirely untrue. Accordingly, landlords raised their rent by $25-$50 per month to cover this so-call tax which in fact is the $25 per year licensing fee. So they are making as much as $600 more to cover a $25 fee. Proof positive the landlords can be dishonest making it very probably that they are 100% behind the rumors being circulated. Why would they be behind it and support Comegys? Simple. If he raises fees and taxes even the slightest bit, they can jack up your rent a whole bunch and blame it on the city.

A Great Witness Helped To Get The Job Done In This Robbery Apprehension

Location of Incident: La Estrella Grocery Store, 4536 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Thursday, April 2, 2009, at approximately 3:53 p.m.

Suspect(s):
Fulquencio Cid Juarez, 22, of Franklin Street in Wilmington
Hildeberto Rodriguez, 27, of St. Johns Drive in Wilmington
Gabriel Mendoza, 26, of South Van Buren Street in Wilmington

Resume: Yesterday afternoon, State Police dispatchers had officers respond to the La Estrella Grocery Store on Kirkwood Highway for a reported robbery.

Troopers were close by and the response was quick. The initial officer on the scene checked on the occupants of the store to make sure they were OK and then made contact with a witness outside. This witness provided crucial information pertaining to the fleeing suspects- which included an accurate description of the suspect vehicle, a green Chevrolet Blazer. This information was subsequently shared with other Troopers in the vicinity.

Moments later, a Trooper observed the suspect vehicle on Route 41 and Milltown Road and executed a traffic stop. The chauffeur was identified as Gabriel Mendoza. Seated in the rear of the SUV were two other subjects who were identified as Fulquencio Juarez and Hildeberto Rodriguez.

With the suspects safely in custody, patrol officers turned this case over to robbery detectives. Their investigation revealed Juarez and Rodriguez both entered the grocery store armed with what appeared to be a handgun- this was later determined to be a bb-gun. The suspects demanded cash and the clerk complied. Before leaving the store, the suspects also took clothing from display.

The three defendants were each charged with Robbery 1st and Conspiracy 2nd, both felonies. The suspects, who were found to have been in the United States illegally, were committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute, each on a $27,000.00 secured bond also with detainers from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

Simply put, a great witness helped to get the job done in this robbery apprehension.

Great Day For Comments

Yesterday delivered, (so far) 378 comments in one day. Granted, with a John Robinson Post or two, we had quite a bit of comments we had to reject. Nevertheless, it's great to see every participating and getting involved.

Because of your input the Mayor and others have finally come to realize the power and volume of so many people who disagree with their tactics. I can assure you that if you went to the Daily Times comments you'd only find about 10% or less of what we do in one day. Oh, that's right, they're a few days behind us on news, I forgot.

Keep those comments rolling in Folks and don't be afraid to speak out. Again, while I don't encourage anonymous comments, you do not have to register with Blogger to put up a comment. Just click the anonymous button below the comment area and type away. If you want to be known, just sign your name at the bottom of your message like you would a letter.

My Last Day At Home Depot

Crash Closes Route 1 At Dover Toll Plaza

Dover – The Delaware State Police investigated an overnight crash that closed portions of State Route 1 southbound at the Dover Toll Plaza. Troopers responded to the single tractor-trailer crash at 1:46 am and discovered the tractor-trailer struck a concrete barrier that separated the EZ Pass lanes with the standard tollbooth lanes.

Troopers learned a 2007 Volvo Tractor, operated by Shimon Dahan, 45 of Berlin, MD was southbound on USRT 1 approaching the toll plaza when he fell asleep. As a result, the tractor-trailer drifted off the roadway striking the barrier. The tractor-trailer continued southbound along the barrier while it began losing its contents (frozen seafood). In addition, the fuel tanks on the tractor were breached leaking fuel onto the roadway.

Representatives from Department of Natural Resources and the Dover Fire Department responded to the scene and contained the fuel spill. Currently, the EZ Pass lane is still closed as officials are working on removing the damaged tractor-trailer.

Mr. Dahan was wearing a seatbelt and not injured. He was cited for Inattentive driving.

Note: The tractor-trailer was registered to Tidewater Express Incorporated in Salisbury, MD.

Meet Your New Main Street Coordinator?

That's right, I have confirmed through Mayor Barrie Tilghman's own words from a very reliable source that the new PART TIME position was designed specifically for former Council President Mike Dunn.

You see Folks, Barrie & Mike aren't going anywhere! Bubba Comegys is nothing but a Puppet for the Mayor and no doubt they will be asking for Grants to match the $20,000.00 per year the Mayor took away from Urban Salisbury and planted right into Mike Dunn's lap. Remember now, this is a part time position that starts off paying $20,000.00 a year!

Considering I found this out, there's no question in my mind that you'll be seeing more of the old Mayor Tilghman controlling the City from the sidelines should you vote for Gary Comegys.

Urban Salisbury sent out an e-mail yesterday expressing their disbelief that the City was making such moves and it has been reported that Mayor Barrie Tilghman threw an absolute FIT and called Urban Salisbury raising her voice and going off about the letter. What goes around, comes around Barrie Tilkghman.

Lord knows what else they have up their sleeve but as a property owner in Downtown Salisbury, no one is going to tell me I have to do this or that.

Make sure you vote for Jim Ireton for Mayor so we can stop these games and get back on the right track.

It's been reported that the Harvard Custom Manufacturing Company here in Salisbury, (next to the old Mall) recently submitted a random drug test and had to let go somewhere between 40 to 50 people. They have a huge Help Wanted Sign out front in case any of you are looking for a minimum wage job.

PA. Police Issue Traffic Ticket For Over $37,000.00

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A police captain in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley said it's the highest fine he's ever seen on a traffic ticket: $37,554.54. Bethlehem Police Capt.

David Kravatz said the major violation was not getting the "super load" permit that was needed because the truck was hauling a 213,000-pound steel cylinder. Police cited the driver and truck owner.

Kravatz said the truck sat idle for almost three weeks after it tipped on March 12 because a new route, proper permits and a police escort took so long to plan. It was removed Wednesday.

Letters To The Editor Are Just Rolling In This Morning

Citizens left to become victims once again!

Editor,

Words cannot express the disappointment I felt this morning when I learned that our lawmakers in Annapolis struck down HB 470. HB 470 would have repealed the requirement that the Superintendant of the Maryland State Police determine that just cause exists warranting the issuance of a permit to carry a concealed firearm for self defense to law abiding citizens. The examples of armed citizens across the country saving their own lives and the lives of others from the acts of criminals are so numerous that they cannot be listed here. 40 States across this nation have enacted legislation repealing the criminalization of carrying a concealed firearm for self defense, yet lawmakers in the State of Maryland have decided to leave in place the existing legislation which makes it virtually impossible for the average law abiding citizen to obtain such a permit. This leaves our citizenry without adequate means to defend themselves and their families. This, in and of itself, is criminal. This is just another shining example of the fact that we need to clean house in the next election.

I recently had conversation with Sheriff Mike Lewis on this very matter. He expressed to me in no uncertain terms that he absolutely supports the right of each and every law abiding citizen to carry a concealed firearm. He further stated that he openly denounces any legislation or other act of the government that would infringe upon the citizen's Second Amendment Rights and will, in fact, resign his position as Sheriff before he would permit his Sheriff's Office to become a tool to disarm "We The People" or take away their ammunition. Now THAT is an elected official I can support! The fact that he spoke about it openly, candidly, and welcomed the MSM to question him on it is a testament to his total commitment to public safety.

During the next campaign by our state legislators we should band together and let them know in no uncertain terms that our right to protect ourselves in an increasingly violent world is paramount. Remember - "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed". How this blatant violation of our constitution got by the SCOTUS is beyond reasonable comprehension.

Another Letter To The Editor

As a strong supporter of Jim Ireton for mayor, I deeply resent the suggestion in recent letters to the editor that somehow Gary Comegys supporters like Salisbury more than we do.

We have endured a sustained campaign to besmirch Ireton's reputation and have had to read entirely unfair coverage in The Daily Times. The latest case was the worst: In an article about potential voter fraud involving Salisbury landlords, The Daily Times quoted a SAPOA member who claimed Ireton's allegations were a campaign ploy.

Gee, might he be biased? How about asking the people who were witnesses to the incident? Look at the list of contributors to each campaign and decide for yourselves which candidate represents a particular special interest group.

I love Salisbury and I am voting for Jim Ireton.

A Letter To The Editor By Our Very Own George Chevallier

Ireton, Campbell will move city in a better direction

Erick Sahler's editorial cartoon from the 2005 Salisbury election accurately portrayed Mike Dunn and Gary Comegys as children on a playground refusing to "play" with Debbie Campbell. For four long years, Campbell's political opponents have tried to paint her as negative.

One of the most positive things a person can do is right a wrong or identify a problem and work to fix it. That is what Campbell does, with integrity and dignity.

The Daily Times incorrectly reported that Campbell's opponent, Muir Boda, was not aligned with anyone. Boda clearly stated at the NAACP candidate forum that he supported Comegys for mayor. Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman also endorsed Comegys.

After nearly six long years of voting almost 100 percent of the time with Tilghman's wishes, this city can't afford another four years of the same.

Comegys voted for a double-digit tax increase before he looked at the budget. He and Tilghman said it was needed for the police. Yet the amount of that increase -- $1.9 million -- went back to surplus, even after the police received raises. Comegys kept quiet about the problems with the wastewater treatment plant while "celebrating" its success, just as Tilghman did.

Bob Caldwell was my first choice in the primary, but Jim Ireton is honest and will not hide city problems from the public.

Vote for Ireton and Campbell. Both have the energy and the integrity to move this city in a much better direction.

A Thing Of Beauty

Garage Door

The boss walked into the office one morning not knowing his zipper was down and his fly area wide open. His assistant walked up to him and said, 'This morning when you left your house, did you close your garage door?' The boss told her he knew he'd closed the garage door, and walked into his office puzzled by the question.

As he finished his paperwork, he suddenly noticed his fly was open, and zipped it up. He then understood his assistant's question about his 'garage door.'

He headed out for a cup of coffee and paused by her desk to ask, 'When my garage door was open, did you see my Hummer parked in there?'

She smiled and said, 'No, I didn't. All I saw was an old mini van with two flat tires.'

Redneck Test

I am sick and tired of hearing about how dumb people are in the South I challenge any so-called smart Yankee to take this exam :

1. Calculate the smallest limb diameter on a persimmon tree that will support a 10 pound possum.

2. Which of these cars will rust out the quickest when placed on blocks in your front yard?
(A) '65 Ford Fairlane
(B) '69 Chevrolet Chevelle, or
(C) '64 Pontiac GTO.

3. If your uncle builds a still, which operates at a capacity of 20 gallons of shine produced per hour, how many car radiators are required to condense the product?

4. A woodcutter has a chainsaw, which operates at 2700 RPM. The density of the pine trees in the plot to be harvested is 470 per acre. The plot is 2.3 acres in size. The average tree diameter is 14 inches. How many Budweisers will be drunk before the trees are cut down?

5. If every old refrigerator in the state vented a charge of R-12 simultaneously, what would be the percentage decrease in the ozone layer?

6. A front porch is constructed of 2x8 pines on 24-inch centers with a field rock foundation. The span is 8 feet and the porch length is 16 feet. The porch floor is 1-inch rough sawn pine. When the porch collapses, how many hound dogs will be killed?

7. A man owns a Tennessee house and 3.7 acres of land in a hollow with an average slope of 15%. The man has five children. Can each of his grown children place a mobile home on the man's land and still have enough property for their electric appliances to sit out front?

8. A 2-ton truck is overloaded and proceeding 900 yards down a steep slope on a secondary road at 45 MPH. The brakes fail. Given average traffic conditions on secondary roads, what is the probability that it will strike a vehicle with a muffler?

9. A coal mine operates a NFPA Class 1, Division 2 Hazardous Area. The mine employs 120 miners per shift. A gas warning is issued at the beginning of the 3rd shift. How many cartons of unfiltered Camels will be smoked during this shift?

10. At a reduction in the gene pool variability rate of 7.5% per generation, how long will it take a town which has been bypassed by the interstate highway to breed a country and western singer?

I betcha thought that test was gonna be an easy one, didn't you? It's okay if you didn't do all that well. Just goes to show you... There's a hole heap of things that big city book learning don't prepare you for in this life.

As an added bonus for taking the "REDNECK CHALLENGE" here's some Southerly advice that may come in handy down the road a piece... Next time you are too drunk to drive, walk to the nearest pizza shop and place an order. When they go to deliver it, catch a ride home with 'em.

The Way We Eat-A Must See Film

There are only a handful of movies that, I believe, have the power to invoke real positive change, and even though “Food, Inc.” hasn’t been released yet, I suspect it is going to be one of them.Because what is worthy of attention if not the very food we depend on to survive -- and the fact that it is slowly being degraded, devalued, and de-humanized by giant corporations? The film tackles not only the perils of factory farming, overuse of corn and downsides to fast food, as some other documentaries have done, but also touches on agribusinesses’ manipulation of genetics and the law for their own greed and gain. And perhaps most importantly, “Food, Inc.” tells a story, one that many Americans have yet to hear, about where food really comes from, and why this is threatening our food supply and our very lives. Packaged the way it is, as an intriguing, easy to follow and interesting film, it is poised to expose the corrupted food industry to mainstream America in a way that’s never been done before. Even Entertainment Weekly said in a review:

“Food, Inc. is a movie that's hard to shake, because days after you've seen it, you will find yourself eating something -- a hamburger, cereal out of the box, a perfectly round waxen hothouse tomato -- and realize that you have virtually no idea what it really is.”An Overview of Problems Facing the U.S. Food System

The average American is now 10 pounds overweight. The United States is also facing epidemics of obesity, type 2 diabetes behavioral problems in children, heart disease and so many other chronic diseases they are too numerous to list. I will stop short of blaming ALL of these illnesses on the U.S. food system, but I believe many, many of them could be resolved if some attention was paid to revamping and completely overhauling the way food is grown, raised, processed and sold in the United States. At the root of the problem is the fact that the government is intimately intertwined with the giant food corporations. It may surprise you to know that the agriculture lobby is actually more powerful than even the pharmaceutical industry! This is just one reason why Michael Pollan, author of In Defense of Food and The Omnivore's Dilemma, who is featured in the movie, suggests a “Food Czar” at the White House rather than a Secretary of Agriculture, as the Department of Agriculture is so deeply entrenched with agri-business.Among the many problems facing the U.S. food system, some of the most prominent are:

• The food crops currently subsidized are corn, wheat, soy and rice. Growing little else but corn and soy means we end up with a fast food diet. In essence, these commodity programs are subsidies for the creation of junk and fast food, not REAL food that could have a positive impact on public health.• Most “farming” today is nothing like the small farming of our ancestors. In areas where animal agriculture is most concentrated bacteria known as pfiesteria is common in waterways, and agricultural runoff is the primary reason why 60 percent of U.S. rivers and streams are polluted. Further, a 2002 study from the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health found that industrial farms use an average of three calories of energy to create one calorie of food!• Giant corporations like Monsanto are not only proliferating the food supply with toxic genetically modified ingredients, but they have also succeeded in slapping patents on a huge number of crop seeds, patenting life forms for the first time -- without a vote of the people or Congress. By doing this, Monsanto becomes sole owner of the very seeds necessary to support the world’s food supply … an incredibly powerful position that no for-profit company should ever hold.• Producing food on a massive scale at the lowest price possible has taken precedence over obeying the laws of nature. The system is pushing natural systems and organisms to their limit, forcing living creatures to function as machines. As a result, soon the animals, and consequently your food supply, become unhealthy. And if your food supply becomes unhealthy, so will the population of people who eat it.

I’m hoping that “Food, Inc.” will help to publicize these problems on a global scale, and ultimately get the wheels turning on how to solve them. What Can YOU do About All of This?
Knowledge truly is power, so please share this article and “Food, Inc.” with everyone you know. The more people become informed, the faster it will prompt real change to come about. Several other food-related movies that I also highly recommend you watch and share with your friends and family are:
o The Future of Food

o Super Size Me

o Fast Food Nation

o The World According To Monsanto

o Cornography

On a practical level, short of starting your own sustainable farm (which you can do on a small-scale in your own backyard), you can also help by steering clear of foods that come from giant corporations, and instead supporting sustainable agriculture movements in your area. Make it a point to only buy food from a source you know and trust. This will do your health a major favor and support the small family farms in your area. You’ll receive nutritious food from a source that you can trust, and you’ll be supporting the honest work of a real family farm instead of an agri-business corporation.

IDEA OF ABOLISHING REVENUE CAP - NOT WELL RECEIVED

Last night a budget hearing was held at the Civic Center to receive public input on how to cope with a projected 12 million dollar shortfall. One key concept being proposed by our elected County Executive, Rick Pollitt, was the abolishment of the County's revenue cap.

However, the idea was not well received as there was stiff opposition to the suggested proposal from several prominent citizens including VOICE. Several suggestions were given including a query about how much of our local sales tax collections were actually being returned back to our locality. Each year - with the exception of this past year - our areas sales tax collections have risen dramatically over previous years - sometimes in excess of 5 million dollars. How much of these proceeds are being returned back to our locality by Annapolis? This in itself is a 6 million dollar question.

Moreover, comments concerning government confiscation of hordes of buildings and lands particularly surrounding SU university were also brought-up. Retraction of our overall tax base is being reduced by these government takeovers.

Also, abolishment of the inventory tax was also proposed to entice new businesses to our area, and, to keep those from exiting across the State border into neighboring Delaware.

Increasing residential density requirements from 3 acres per dwelling to 1 acre per dwelling were also suggested to help spur sagging construction sales and increase sales tax collections as well as the elimination of the recently enacted impact fees that have caused a further deterioration of new construction permits being issued.
