TWO KILLED IN CRASH WITH STATE TROOPER

(St. Michaels, MD) – Two people were killed this afternoon in a Talbot County crash that involved a state trooper who was responding to a call for a personal injury vehicle crash.

The victims are identified as Maynard W. Lowry, 88, of Tilghman, Md., and his sister, Alma Lowry, 87, also of Tilghman. Mr. Lowry was pronounced dead at the scene. Ms. Lowry was taken by ambulance to Easton Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly before 5:30 p.m. today.

The trooper involved in the crash is identified as Trooper First Class Philip W. Willoughby, 28, who is assigned to road patrol duties at the Easton Barracks. TFC Willoughby has been a member of the Maryland State Police for seven and one-half years. He was flown by State Police medevac to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center where he was treated for lacerations and contusions before being released this evening.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m. today, TFC Willoughby had just begun his tour of duty when he heard a Talbot County 9-1-1 dispatch for a reported personal injury crash involving an overturned vehicle on Old Trappe Road between Easton and Trappe. He was traveling east on Rt. 33 in St. Michaels at the time and radioed the Easton Barracks to advise he would be en route to the crash.

According to numerous witnesses, TFC Willoughby activated his emergency lights and siren on his marked patrol car and proceeded east on Rt. 33. Witnesses told State Police investigators they heard the siren and saw the emergency lights as the trooper traveled east on the 35 mph roadway and approached a shopping center just east of Madison Avenue. Witnesses said there were no cars in front of the trooper on the straight and level roadway as he neared the shopping center entrance.

The preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Lowry, who was driving a four-door 1987 Toyota Cressida, pulled from the shopping center parking lot onto Rt. 33 and into the path of the trooper. The trooper’s 2006 Ford Crown Victoria struck the Toyota on the driver’s side.

The trooper kicked his way out of his patrol car and attempted to provide assistance to the couple in the car. The St. Michael’s Fire Department and other area EMS resources responded and provided assistance.

The fatal collision is being investigated by the Maryland State Police CRASH Team, which will conduct a detailed crash reconstruction. The speed the trooper was traveling when the crash occurred has not been determined and will be part of the continuing investigation. Mr. Scott Patterson, Talbot County State’s Attorney, has been informed of this incident and has agreed to review the investigation upon its completion.

Traffic on Rt. 33 was slowed for several hours tonight and was detoured around the crash scene. Personnel from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, St. Michael’s Police Department, and the State Highway Administration assisted with traffic direction and detours.

UPDATE On Stacy Sakai Broadcast

While additional information is still coming in on her report, I was just informed that her story will air some time this week but not tomorrow night. Man, this thing has become very interesting!

BREAKING NEWS! A Sheriff's Deputy Gets In Accident On Rt. 50 Moments Ago

A Sheriff's Deputy had been heading east bound on Rt. 50 and was attempting to make a left onto Memory Gardens Lane. While crossing Rt. 50 a vehicle heading west bound collided with the Sheriff's Deputy. Both drivers were not injured, fortunately.

While I'm at it, I'm told that a State Trooper in Easton was heading to an accident scene today when the MSP hit a vehicle allegedly killing two people. I'm still checking into the story and none of this has been confirmed.

Parents Arrested For Smoking Marijuana With Child In Car

NEWS RELEASE
OCEAN CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT
OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND

On Wednesday, August 13, 2008, Ocean City Police Officers were working in
unmarked patrol cars when they noticed a man, later identified as Chad Jeffrey
Marciano, 19, of Milford, DE, smoking what appeared to be a hand rolled
marijuana cigar. Marciano was driving north on Coastal Highway when officers
witnessed him smoke the marijuana cigar and then hand the cigar to a female,
who was later identified as Cassondra Mae Rivera, 18, of Milford, DE.

While following Marciano, officers detected an odor of burning marijuana
coming from the vehicle. Also, officers noticed a young female and a toddler
who was seated in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle. The young female was
a 17-year-old relative of Rivera and the toddler was Marciano and Rivera’s
1-year-old son.

OCPD officers stopped the vehicle. During the stop Marciano admitted to
officers that he was smoking marijuana inside of his vehicle. Upon searching the
vehicle officers found one partially smoked marijuana cigar, and other related
controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia.

Marciano and Rivera were placed under arrest and charged with possession of
marijuana. Officers brought 17 year old and the toddler to the Public Safety
Building where they were turned over to representatives from Social Services.

Marciano and Rivera were taken before a District Court Commissioner and
released on their own recognizance.

Gannett Sinking FAST Announces 1,000 People to Be Laid Off

Gannett is going down the tubes and fast folks, they are laying off 1,000 people across the US from its unprofitable newspaper operations.

With the crappy quality of their Eastern Shore publications and worse than crappy attitude by their advertising & sales department all I can say is GOOD RIDDANCE!

I truly hope there will be some quality publications or that our blogging networks will take thier place.

I have spent millions of dollars in advertising and dealt with just about every major publication in the US over the past 20-years. The team that runs the Eastern Shore newspapers by far has to be the most arrogant bunch of assholes I have ever been forced to deal with.

Editorial & Opions aside the people from the Eastern Shore newspaper group simply do not know how treat customers or how to run a profitable business.

With the SBYnews and ll the other blogs and real sources of news, I rarely bother to even go to any Gannett website or pick up one of their poorly produced papers.

To those who play the stock market its time to 'Short' your Gannett stock!

McLean-Based Gannett to Cut 1,000 Newspaper JobsMcLean, Va. --

Gannett, the McLean-based publisher of USA Today and 84 other daily newspapers, said that it plans to eliminate 1,000 jobs -- including 600 layoffs -- across its newspaper operations. USA Today, which suffered 45 job cuts in November, reported that it won't be affected by the latest round. The cuts, which represent about 3% of the workforce at Gannett's local newspaper division, come as the newspaper industry continues to experience declining revenues caused by the slumping economy and the shifting of ads to other online sources. Rival publisher Tribune also recently announced a series of cuts, including 100 positions at The Baltimore Sun.

Chief Webster Is Roaming The Streets

I went out and took a stroll Downtown earlier and wouldn't you know it, out pops Chief Webster. An hour or two later I was standing outside my building Downtown and wouldn't you know it again, there he was driving by.

I'm so comforted knowing that no matter where I go any more, Chief Webster is there to protect me. Remember Folks, I'm on foot, he's in a car.

So thank you Chief. Serve and Protect Joe Albero is what it's all about. Screw everyone else, right Chief? What's that pesky Albero up to now?

The Story Thickens On Dr. Nolte

It's my understanding that WMDT 47 News will be running an additional story Tuesday Night at 6:00 PM about animal deaths while in the hands/care of Dr. Nolte. Stacy Sakai has been doing a terrific job covering facts and allegations and while these stories are coming out, more and more people are contacting Salisbury News and 47 News with their own personal experiences.

"NO COMMENT" seems to be the answer any more from John Pick, the Mayor and Jim Caldwell, the Director of Public Works. Joel Hamilton CONVENIENTLY took vacation as soon as these stories broke. The Director of the Salisbury Zoo started when, four months ago? He's already taking vacation? I seem to remember that any time things got tough on the Zoo, all of a sudden Jim Rapp was nowhere to be found as he too would leave for vacation, hoping things would calm down once he got back.

I have also noticed the same thing happening with Mayor Barrie Tilghman, every time things got hot and heavy. A perfect example is every time they would come out with a final Budget, Barrie was GONE! Pretty slick move.

Nevertheless, watch 47 News tomorrow night at 6:00 PM. I know the details and I can assure you, there's been a lot of investigative work done on this story and you'll be amazed at what has turned up.

Crabs!

An Eastern Shore of Maryland man leaving the bay, was stopped by a game warden recently, with two ice chests full of live illegal sized crabs in water.

The game warden asked the man, "Do you have a license to catch those crabs?"

Naw, my friend, I ain't got no license. These here are my pet crabs."

"Pet crabs?"

"Yep. Every night I take these crabs down to the bay and let 'em swim

around for a while. Then I whistle and they jump right back into this ice

chest and I take 'em home."

"That's a bunch of Bull! Crabs can't do that!"

The man looked at the game warden for a moment and then said, "It's the truth. I'll show you. It really works."

"Okay, I've GOT to see this!"

The man poured the crabs into the river and stood and waited.

After several minutes, the game warden turned to him and said, "Well?"

"Well, what?" said the man.

"When are you going to call them back?"

"Call who back?"

"The crabs!"

"WHAT crabs?"

We from the Eastern Shore of Maryland may not be as smart as some, but we ain't as dumb as most.

Four Nigthts Of Ocean Downs Live Meet Remain

Only four days remain in the 60th Anniversary live-racing summer meet at Ocean Downs after the ten-race card, which ran Sunday night, August 17th.

Popular local driver Ray Robinson, Jr. Sunday solidified his third-place driver rankings in the forty-day meet with a fourth-race win as pilot for six year-old gelding Jim Bob Walton (1:56.3, $8.80). It was a special night as “Shorty” was celebrating his 39th birthday logging his 29th win of the current meet and his 986th career victory. Robinson was the Ocean Downs’ three-time leading driver 1999 through 2001 and last year won 53 races, finishing second to Frank Milby who earned the 2007 title with 67 winners.

This year’s leading driver, Eric Ledford posted his 57th win of the summer at the ocean, completing a driving-triple Sunday with a final-race win behind eight year-old gelding Ldees Paulie ($5.40, 1:59.0). Ledford, the 2002 Hambletonian Final-winner with Chip Chip Hooray, began his summer at Ocean Downs June 28th with a pair of wins. “I didn’t know what to expect. I’d never been down here before so most of the people here, it’s the first time I’ve ever raced for them,” the current New Jersey resident originally from the mid-west said. “Getting associated with everybody down here, I didn’t really know what to expect.”

Ledford has been busy racing at Ocean Downs and commuting back and forth to New Jersey a couple of times each week. He has only been on the Ocean City beach once or twice, but he has enjoyed his experience racing at the half-mile track. “It’s a good surface. You can’t beat that and the people down here are really nice.” Ledford has produced his 57 wins in only 26 nights of racing during the current forty-day summer meet, which concludes Sunday, August 24th. “The Windy City Express” as track announcer George Anthony calls him, had a five-win night July 16th, three driving-grand slams (July 2, July 5 and August 2) and three driving-triples (July 3, August 10th and August 17th. “I’ve been very fortunate to drive a lot of good horses,” the 36 year-old driver said.

Excellent stakes races remain during the final four nights of live racing. The Maryland Standardbred Fund Races will be contested at Ocean Downs during the final week of the meet. Top three year-old trotters and pacers in the state are featured Wednesday, August 20th while the state’s top two year-olds take to the track Thursday, August 21st. In addition, the final leg of the prestigious “Hal Belote Memorial” trot series is on the card Wednesday, August 20th. The “Alan Myer Memorial” final leg is set for Thursday, August 21st and the final of the four-leg “Deer Run Golf Club” late closer series is the feature Saturday, August 23rd.

Exciting family promotions and giveaways also help wrapup the track’s 60th Anniversary live meet. For more information, call the track (410) 641-0600 or go on-line www.oceandowns.com.

Our Bella

Some of you had requested seeing pictures of one of our Puppies in the ring. This is Bella. She took First Place in her category as well yesterday. If you're wondering what makes a dog do well in the ring, one of the things I hear most is what they call a "top line." The top line is how flat and straight their back is. I'm no expert by any means and I'm sure many of the Kennel Club people can chime in on this one but they also look at the tail sticking straight up and then it gets blurry for me. I hear attitude is a big plus. I just pay for the gas and sit there like it's interesting, if you know what I mean? Many of the women sit there and yell out, WOO HOO, when they like a particular dog. I enjoy looking at the variety of Motor Coaches people use to go to these events. Must be a guy thing.

I will tell you, this event had a ton of people/dogs there and it was very well attended by spectators. I will admit, it is pretty cool seeing all of the different kind of breeds of dogs, as you don't get to see that many varieties every day anywhere else.

Yesterday Cassandra Williams took First Place in her category at the Show in Annapolis. Cassandra handles many of our dogs as well but when it comes to the Easton/Annapolis Show, Jennifer takes our puppies into the ring.

Cassandra is from Salisbury and handles quite a few clients from the Eastern Shore.

Better Not Have a Blonde or Senior Moment at the Air Port

Forgot your ID? You must be a terrorist

Joe Fay
The Register
Thursday, Aug 14, 2008

The US Transportation Security Administration has done a backflip on a policy of adding people who had forgotten their ID to its database of suspect fliers.

The scheme kicked off in June, according to USA Today, the same time the agency officially declared people could not board planes in the US unless they showed ID.

At the time the TSA said it would still allow people who had misplaced, as opposed to refused to show, their ID on to planes. But there was no mention of the database.

Being added to the database, effectively meant that innocent but absent-minded fliers in the US would find their IDs slapped in a database with everyone else the TSA decided was an undesirable, including people who breached flight securities regulations or acted suspiciously. Or are foreign. (We’re guessing on that last one.)

Getting lumped in with the undesirable or just plain stupid in the virtual world is bad enough. But in the real world unlucky fliers who were slapped into the database could also expect ongoing aggravation on subsequent flights.

TSA boss Kip Hawley told USA Today that adding the “forgetful” would enable the agency to track potential terrorists who were “probing” for weak points in US airport security.

However, Hawley phoned the paper back shortly afterwards and said the agency would not retain details, if subjects could convince screeners of their actual ID. Which will still be a push if you really have lost your wallet/been mugged/are plain stupid.

Hawley said names of the ID-forgetful already in the database would be expunged within the month.

However, people simply deemed to have been “acting suspiciously” and who have been questioned by airport police will remain in the database for 15 years, along with information about their travelling companions.

Deep down, the TSA still believes that being forgetful is inherently suspicious.

Welfare Fraud?

Joe

"There's an individual that resides in Delmar Md. in an apartment complex located behind the flower shop on Line rd. These apartments are government rent controlled, meaning that this lazy piece of .... has to pay a very minimal amount of rent due to the fact that she does not work, and has not for over a year. Yes you guessed it in her 65.00 dollar purse is an independence card. She says thank you to all the taxpayers out there. She had a son that had enlisted in the u.s. army reserves less that a year ago, he completed his basic and schooling and then returned home. Then something very dissapointing happened, he took his own life. The reasons are unimportant to this story. The military allows the soldier to appoint the benefactor of the life ins. policy to whomever he or she decides to. This policy is worth 400,000.00 . 2 weeks after the funeral the mother had contacted the powers that be in order to begin the process of obtaining this check. Now keep in mind it is up to the benefactor to start the proceedings of this process. The check was delivered. Now all she has to do is write a check off of this account to whomever and thats that. The son was buried in April 13 and from that time this welfare recipient (still on welfare and the independence card in the purse, a new purse) has purchased a new 30,000.00 vehicle, a new 140,000.00 double wide, a new piece of land on pepper box rd in Del mar. The land had to be purchased because her credit was so bad that she could not put it in a trailer park. She is still not working and still getting help from the state. Her daughter was in an accident and the doctor bills had piled up to an amount of 30,000.00 She is of age and unfortunately not able to pay for this bill. She had tried to get some assistance from the state to help out with the remaining portion that her insurance did not pay but was told that since she had moved in with her mother that she could not get help due to the fact that her mother was on state assistance. This a true story. If there is someone that reads this that has the power or knows someone to possibly investigate this fraud please do us all a favor."

Ho, Ho, Ho, Green Giant

Back in the Day, Barrie Parson was a happy go lucky young lady enjoying life in school and participating in all sorts of plays and activities.

Recent, Barrie Tilghman was asked by her husband at 5:30 PM to get up off the couch and go to their Class Reunion. Not only did they show up late but they left very early as well. No one would play with Barrie and she was not the center of attention, so I'm told.

This is not the kind of Party Barrie Tilghman likes to participate in. Nevertheless, I'm told everyone had a great time, once she left the Party. I wasn't there, so I can't say for sure. What I can tell you is, I've heard this through a few different sources, so I have to believe it's accurate.

My what times does to a us, eh? Hey, I'm not picking on her. Time is kicking the crap out of me too.

Question of the Day, Mon 8/18

This question brought to you by an anonymous reader:

This is really bugging the crap out of me, and boy would I love to hear peoples' answers, including yours if you don't mind:

Wicomico County has historically had the highest income taxes of any county in Maryland. If we don't have enough police, water that may or may not come out of the pipes hard enough to take a shower, streets full of graffiti, gangs and prostitutes, and poorly maintained public facilities such as the zoo and parks and roads.... What's happening to all of our money? Where is it all going?

From Easton To Salisbury, EVERYONE Is Blowing Away A Gordy Tiger Mart!

A special thanks goes out to my friend Elbert who delivered today's Sam's Club prices but looks at these rates per gallon. Don't tell me they don't have control in lowering their gas prices. Three other Exxon's along the way were ten cents a gallon less than any Gorddy Exxon here in Salisbury as they're still at $3.59 a gallon.

UPDATE: I take that back. After this Post went up this morning, Gordy has reduced his priced to $3.54. We're on a roll now!

The "Greenest" Danger Zone in America

You may be murdered in your own home, but at least you can be proud that you died in a town with a "green footprint". That seems to be the message from Salisbury Mayor Barrie Tilghman and her "council leadership" of Louise Smith, Gary Comegys and Shanie Shields.

Perhaps the prostitutes hawking their wares on Rt. 13 can start giving out LED light bulbs with each "half and half". Maybe the city can use YOUR TAX DOLLARS to subsidize the program. Read More ...

Do You Have A. A. A. D. D.?

I have recently been diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D.
(Advanced Absentminded Attention Deficit Disorder)

This is how it goes:

I decide to wash the car; I start toward the garage and notice
the mail on the table.

OK, I'm going to wash the car, but first I'm going to go through
the mail.

I lay the car keys down on the desk, discard the junk mail, and
notice the trashcan is full.

OK, I'll just put the bills on my desk and take the trashcan
out, but since I'm going to be near the mailbox anyway, I'll pay
these few bills first.

Now, where is my checkbook?
Oops, there's only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk.
Oh, there's the coke I was drinking.
I'm going to look for those checks.
But first I have to put my coke further away from the computer,
or maybe I'll pop it into the fridge to keep it cold for awhile.

I head towards the kitchen and my flowers catch my eye; they
need some water.

I set the coke on the counter, and uh oh.
There are my glasses. I was looking for them all morning.
I'd better put them away first.

I fill a container with water and head for the flower pots.

Uh oh.....someone left the TV remote in the kitchen.
We'll never think to look in the kitchen tonight when we want to
watch television, so I'd better put it back in the family room
where it belongs.

I splash some water into the pots and onto the floor, I throw
the remote onto a soft cushion on the sofa and I head back down
the hall trying to figure out what it was I was going to do?

End of the Day: The car isn't washed, the bills are unpaid, the
coke is sitting on the kitchen counter, the flowers are half-
watered, the checkbook still only has one check in it and I
can't seem to find my car keys.

When I try to figure out how come nothing got done today, I'm
baffled because I KNOW I WAS BUSY ALL DAY LONG!!!!!

I realize this is a serious condition and I'll get help, but
first I think I'll check my email................

Please send this to everyone you know because I DON'T REMEMBER
TO WHOM I'VE SENT THIS!!!!!!

Author Forgotten

Dear Mayor Tilghman, Chief Webster, City Council, County Council & County Executive:

I ask with all sincerity, PLEASE take a few minutes out of your day and view this video. I also ask that ALL Citizens do the same so we can all remember where we came from, how we were raised, what we were taught and how things should be. Thank You for your consideration. Joe Albero

Why Do We Hire Police Officers? To Serve And Protect!

NOT in the Salisbury Police Department, that is. This Post is NOT directed at the Officers working the beat. It is directed at the third floor decision makers.

More than a month ago a local prostitute was murdered in the City of Salisbury. Yes, I said MORE than a month ago. Some two weeks ago her body was found but she had already been dead and lying there for a minimum of two weeks, some tell me a month.

Two weeks have passed by since her body was found and guess what, NOTHING! Let me step back for a moment though because I have a story to tell you. I mentioned the day the woman was found dead that I had received some Intel information on the suspected murderer. YOU have still NOT received all the information they have shared with the Daily Times. There's been NO PRESS RELEASE given out, even though they knew I had the Intel Information, they refused to allow Salisbury News any heads up on when it might be OK to release this information.

This is just one reason why I think Chief Webster sucks at what he does. However, it gets worse. You see, the guy they're looking for has a habit of getting a prostitute in his silver vehicle with Delaware Temporary Tags and at some point he likes to throw them out of the vehicle, sometimes while moving.

Recently I received a photograph of the deceased woman who had been murdered and I forwarded it to the entire City Council. I wanted them to see first hand just how horrible this crime was. I wanted them to see that her face was blown off and the maggots that were eating her entire body. For those of you council members who were wondering what all those white specs were in the photo, that was maggots.

You see Ladies & Gentlemen, the real story here is, this could have been YOU! This could have been one of your children. This could have been your Wife or your Mother! WHY in God's name wouldn't the Chief of Police let the public know this guy was a SUSPECT even before there was a murder? Then once they found this woman's body, why did it take 2 weeks to casually and selectively release the information about the suspect?

SERVE & PROTECT is the very beginning of YOUR JOB, Chief Webster. I think it's more like, "Forgotten Where You Came From" is more like it! Let me go back just a little bit here Folks. I want to make this very clear. They waited two weeks to let everyone know SOME of the details from this murder and their suspect. They knew about the suspect for far longer than that but even more importantly, this woman had been DEAD for more than a MONTH! So take the two week thing out of your mind and realize that they have allowed a KILLER loose on the streets in which you let your Wife go here and there independently, yet there was a killer running around and they didn't let you know of ANY clues as to what he was driving, the color of the car, the temporary tag, the fact that he's black, NOTHING!

Chief Webster and Barrie Tilghman do not SERVE AND PROTECT, they're control freaks and risked the lives of thousands of people and I'm sorry, I think that's BS! Yes, I have sent a letter expressing these thoughts to the City Council and I told them I would NOT post the picture of this woman as I can assure you, most would have nightmares for months, it's that horrific. A part of me wants YOU to see it so you know just how serious a crime and murder this was. I actually held back from showing the picture because the Parents are still alive and I would NEVER want to see my child like this, EVER! Trust me, nor would you.

So call me a pain in the ass. Rag on me about what I do here, I don't care. I am serving and protecting the Citizens in the best way I know how, like it or not. I closed my letter to the Council stating I felt the Mayor and Chief would better serve the Public by NOT driving to Annapolis and Baltimore meeting with the COMPTROLLER and or the FBI trying to go after me personally and or the former Sheriff Hunter Nelms.

In the mean time, the killer is still on the loose, so don't forget that Folks. Why is no one scared right now? Because the Daily Times gave it a little blurb, many of their old customers don't buy the paper any more and they rely on Salisbury News now. Perhaps the Chief of Police and or the Mayor would like to hold a Press Conference and or give out a Press Release and we can give you more details?

Until then, your children are at the Mall. Do they know what vehicle to look out for? Do they have a description of a KILLER that has been on the loose for more than a month? I suggest you call the Mayor or Police Chief and demand some immediate answers!

IMO, the Mayor and Chief have served and protected their own a$$es, not yours.

By the way, how do we know the guy that broke into the home on Johnson Lake wasn't the same guy that murdered the young woman? Then again, how would you know what he looks like, since the Mayor and Chief won't release all the information. There was no press release on that home invasion either.

Gannett Publications About To Layoff Even More Employees

By WBNG News
http://www.wbng.com/news/local/27016779.html

The nation's largest newspaper publisher is eliminating at least a thousand jobs.

Gannett owns the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin the Ithaca Courier Journal and the Elmira Star Gazette..All three of which are printed in Johnson City.
Gannett is blaming the cuts on declining profits due to a lagging economy and the increasing popularity of online readership.
USA Today, the largest circulation newspaper in the country, will not be affected by this round of cutbacks.
The cuts will affect Gannett's other newspapers, which include 84 daily papers and nearly 900 non-daily publications.
The company plans to slash 600 jobs, and eliminate another 400 through attrition.
There's no word on how the three southern tier papers will be affected by these job cuts.
Action News has placed calls into the Press and Sun Bulletin and Gannett Corporate Headquarters...but were told they would not comment.
