STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ON THE PASSING OF CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER DR. BENJAMIN LAWSON HOOKS

ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 16, 2010) –Governor Martin O’Malley today issued the following statement following the passing of civil rights leader and executive director of the NAACP, Dr. Benjamin Lawson Hooks:

“I am saddened by the news that we have lost a champion who fought for equality for all Americans. Dr. Hooks was responsible for bringing the NAACP’s headquarters to Baltimore, and has been a steadfast lifelong advocate of equal rights for all. Through his work as a civil rights attorney, minister, judge, Executive Director of the NAACP, and as founding chair of the National Civil Rights Museum, Dr. Benjamin Lawson Hooks raised awareness and fought tirelessly for the civil rights for all Americans, and believed in the dignity of every individual.

“Whether he was in a courtroom, in the halls of the FCC, the NAACP, or presiding over a ministry, Dr. Hooks confronted prejudice and inequality nationwide and in doing so, wrote a new, even more honorable chapter in American history.”

OC Health And Racquet Club To Close Their Doors

I just spoke with the representative from Wilmington Trust regarding the OC Health and Racquet Club. They plan to close the building either today or Saturday morning.

Their plan is to chain the doors, then change the locks.

They will have a greeter at the door the morning they shut it down with flyers telling customers when they can retrieve personal items from the lockers.

White NBC Reporter Confronts Black Man At Tea Party Rally: 'Have You Ever Felt Uncomfortable?'

“There aren't a lot of African-American men at these events,” NBC News reporter Kelly O'Donnell, a white woman, told Darryl Postell, a black man at a Tea Party rally held Thursday in Washington, DC, pressing him, in an exchange she chose to include in her NBC Nightly News story, to address her prejudiced assumptions: “Have you ever felt uncomfortable?” Postell rejected her loaded premise that race must divide Americans: “No, no, these are my people, Americans.”

O'Donnell's story noted “skepticism over how the Tea Party is judged and labeled,” letting an attendee assert: “We're not racists, we're not any of the above that people claim us to be. We're ordinary citizens that love our country, and we're fighting for it.” O'Donnell soon wondered if it all may peter out, asking a man in the crowd: “Do you think this has enough energy to really last to November and to make a difference?”

Over on ABC, Jonathan Karl highlighted how “many of them blamed us, the news media.” A woman demanded: “We want honesty from you. We want fair time from you. We want you, the media, to represent all the people, not just a certain portion of the people.”

BREAKING NEWS: 43 County Employees Laid Off Today

43 Wicomico County Employees went into work today, turned on their computers and when they went to log in their computers denied them access, telling them to see their Administrator. Not a very kind way to let your employees know they were out of a job, if you ask me.

Department Heads did NOT make the decision as to who was being let go. Salisbury News learned the County hired a consulting firm that told the 3rd floor who was being terminated.

Department Heads were told yesterday who was being let go but were also told if they leaked the information they would be terminated immediately.

More cuts are coming after July 1, 2010 and "no body's job is safe." However, so far, the more money you make, the safer your position is within the County because no heavy salaried employees were laid off this go around, so we're told. "High paid employees didn't get touched," a source told Salisbury News.

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ON MARYLAND’S ADDITION OF 35,800 JOBS IN MARCH

ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 16, 2010) – Governor Martin O’Malley issued this statement today following the announcement that the number of employed Marylanders increased for the first time in more than two years in March, adding an estimated 35,800 jobs.

“Today’s announcement is good news for families and businesses in Maryland. While we still have a way to go, these jobs numbers show that our economy is beginning to turn in a positive direction. We will continue to focus our energies on creating jobs, saving jobs, and improving the conditions under which small businesses can create and save jobs in order to keep Maryland moving forward. In Maryland we still have an unemployment rate that is far below the national average, and we will continue to leverage the enormous job-creating potential of our State, including strategic tax cuts for businesses that hire unemployed workers, and investments in important growth sectors of our economy, our world-class workforce, and our nation’s #1 ranked public schools.”

DNC To Pour $50 Million Into Fall Races

Democrats hope to stem expected losses in midterm elections

WASHINGTON
- The Democratic National Committee says it will spend more than $50 million in cash and other resources on the November elections, as the party struggles to limit expected losses in congressional races and possibly gubernatorial contests too.

The planned expenditure, worked out by top White House and congressional Democrats, would mark a significant investment in a non-presidential election.

Democratic officials confirmed the plans, first reported by Politico, but said they had yet to decide how much of the contribution would be in cash versus noncash resources, such as campaign workers. Candidates cherish cash because it allows them to pay for polls and TV or radio ads.

Hey Joe,

First of all congrats on all the work you have done for little Sarah these last few months to get the bill passed this past week , God Bless Her Soul.

He went missing this past Monday/Tuesday, can you please post something , we do not have any pictures but please help... I have posted something on Craig's list but your help would be appreciated greatly !

We are asking for anyone to come forward and tell us who they may know who got a full grown Himalayan cat this week to call 443-944-4658 REWARD IS OFFERED FOR HIS RETURN OR WHEREABOUTS NO QUESTIONS ASKED

WANT TO KNOW WHAT RICK POLLITT’S “PIO” DOES

Last week Mr. Pollitt told us that the public information officer on his staff is an absolutely essential part of Wicomico County’s governmental bureaucracy “now more than ever.” This week those who heard the Bill Reddish’s interview of Rick and James Fineran (the PIO) learned how the latter earns his pay ($60,000 plus benefits) by furnishing a vital public service. Here’s a summary.

Warning: before reading further, if you’re not sitting, please do so now.

After discourse by Pollitt about the benefits of public information, the focus shifted to what the PIO actually does. Fineran stated that his personal “skill set” enables him to “stand in” for Pollitt, who “can’t be everywhere.” As an example of what he meant, Fineran mentioned attending “ribbon cuttings” that Rick could not attend.

Fineran then said that he also answers questions by the public about the nooks and crannies of the County bureaucracy – “where to get a building permit” was given as an example. You must wonder if his “skill set” includes doing windows as well as using scissors on ribbons.

[I did suggest that folks sit down before reading this]

Eventually, Pollitt, by some sixth sense, must have heard radio listeners laughing loudly, and he attempted to extricate the interview from the hole being dug by Fineran. Rick pointed out that Fineran writes press releases that are sent to the news media and reiterated the worth of public information in our daily lives. One never knows when he or she might suddenly need a building permit but not know where to get it.

At that point, I was distracted by a very loud sucking noise coming from my wallet – the interview aired on April 15, after all. It will be rebroadcast on Sunday, April 18, in the very early morning, I believe, on WICO – 1320 AM.

PS – Unfortunately for Wicomico County residents, this is not satire!

Tea Party Rally Upbraids 'Gangster Government'

WASHINGTON – Tea party protesters marked tax day Thursday with exhortations against "gangster government" and appeals from Republicans seeking their grass-roots clout in November elections, a prospect both tempting and troubling to those in the loose movement.

Several thousand rallied in Washington's Freedom Plaza in the shadow of the Ronald Reagan office building, capping a national protest tour launched in the dust of Nevada and finishing in the capital that inspires tea party discontent like no other place. Allied activists demonstrated from Maine to Hawaii in hundreds of lively protests, all joined in disdain for government spending and — on the April 15 federal tax filing deadline — what they see as the Washington tax grab.

The Washington rally in brilliant sunshine was spirited but modest in size, lacking the star power of tea party favorite Sarah Palin, who roused the masses at earlier stops of the Tea Party Express in its cross-country bus tour. Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota won roars of affirmation as she accused President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats of trying to take over health care, energy, financial services and other broad swaths of the economy.

"We're on to this gangster government," she declared. "I say it's time for these little piggies to go home."

She appealed directly for tea partiers to swing behind "constitutional conservatives" in congressional campaigns, just as they contributed to Scott Brown's upset in the Massachusetts Senate race in an early test of their potency. "I am the No. 1 target for one more extremist group to defeat this November," she said. "We need to have your help for candidates like me. We need you to take out some of these bad guys."

Obama, speaking Thursday night at a Democratic fundraiser in Miami, told supporters he is amused by the protesters' complaints about taxes because, contrary to their claims, he's cut taxes. "You would think they'd be saying thank you," the president said.

Although Republicans are ideological allies of many tea partiers — and GOP operatives are involved in some of the organizations — they are also part of the establishment that many in the movement want to upend. No members of the Republican congressional leadership were featured at the capital rally.

In Wisconsin, a half dozen tea party groups from around the state decided to boycott Thursday's rally in Madison because former Republican Gov. Tommy Thompson was among the speakers.

"We do feel it's important that people know this is not who we would ever align ourselves with," said Kirsten Lombard, organizer of the Madison-based tea party group Wisconsin 9/12 Project. Tim Dake, organizer of the Milwaukee-based GrandSons of Liberty, said: "Tommy is representative of the old boy network way of doing things."

A similar sentiment was seen on a sign carried by a tea party member in Washington: "Reelect No One."

More People Showed Up In The Rain At Last Years Tea Party

While I was very disappointed that more people showed up in the rain at last years Tea Party, most people I spoke to who were new to this years event stated they expected much more than they got.

Julie Brewington kicked things off "with a good old fashioned Pledge of Allegiance" and then forgot the words and after getting started, asked Joe Collins for "HELP." These things happen, I guess.

Hundreds of people did show up but as I have personally watched the AFP grow over the past year, I too was disappointed in the turn out. Many were confused as Chris Lewis told people it started at 3:00 PM and the AFP told everyone it started at 5:00 PM.

Again, the movement is a great one but they truly need to better organize in order to have the right kind of impact. Now, that being said, I was truly amazed at the Annapolis Tea Party last Monday. Considering it was held in Annapolis, I thought I was going to see a lot more people there. I will say this though, the Annapolis Tea Party was far more organized and entertaining and I'm simply being truthful here Folks.

These are difficult events to pull off and Salisbury does have quite a few good people who have their hearts in the right place. Hopefully they can find the right combination of people to organize things a little better.

I should add, WBOC had Captain Willie, (or whatever his name is) flying overhead and making so much noise with their helicopter that many got on the phone with WBOC to complain and they said they were doing a LIVE shot at 5:00 PM and they refused to move away. I personally think they lost more viewers for such a stunt.

Disgust With Big Government Finally Goes Mainstream

Three years ago, the Republican establishment piled scorn on the presidential candidacy of Ron Paul.

Today, he is in a statistical tie with President Obama in 2012 polling. His son, an ophthalmologist who has never run for elective office, is well ahead of not only the GOP's handpicked candidate for Senate in Kentucky but also both Democratic contenders -- all statewide officeholders.

What happened? Did America suddenly develop an insatiable appetite for 74-year-old, cranky congressmen from Texas? Is the gold standard catching on?

Paul will not likely be the next president. And his son still faces the most arduous part of his journey as Democrats spend millions to paint him as soft on defense, lax on drug enforcement and too radical on welfare programs.

But there's no doubt that hating the government and the powerful interests that pull Washington's strings has gone from the radical precincts of the Right and Left to the mainstream.

It turns out that watching Goldman Sachs, the United Auto Workers, public employee unions and a raft of other vampires drain the treasury at America's weakest moment in a generation will make a person pretty hacked off.

After Barack Obama's election, Democrats assumed that the American people were battered, bruised and ready for a morphine drip of European-style socialism. Republicans, shocked by their stunning reversals, figured the Democrats were right and started looking for technocrats of their own.

And in a political system fueled by special-interest money, it was hard for the leaders of major parties to imagine anything other than an activist government. After all, if you pay for someone to get elected, you don't expect him to just sit there.

Just 18 months ago the leaders of both parties were quite sure that Obama would be the popular, transformative president he aspires to be. The Republicans who emerged from the wreckage of November were certain to look a lot more like Charlie Crist and Mitt Romney than Marco Rubio and Ron Paul.

But Crist's embrace of Obamanomics seems to have utterly destroyed his chances at a Senate seat that was once his for the taking. Romney, considered a near lock for the 2012 Republican nomination, has seen his candidacy badly damaged by a populist revolt against the passage of a national health care plan that looks like the one he designed for Massachusetts.

Put This On Your Refrigerator Door

If there were ever anything worth putting on your refrigerator door to daily remind us of what we have to do come November.

This is it Subject: Retribution is less than 1 year away!
Take a look at this and just remember elections in November 2010.
U..S. House & Senate have voted themselves $4,700 and $5,300 raises.
They voted to NOT give you a S.S. Cost of living raise in 2010 and 2011.
Your Medicare premiums will go up $285.60 for in the next 2-years
You will not get the 3% COLA: $660/yr.
Your total 2-yr loss and cost is -$1,600 or -$3,200 for husband and wife.
Over these same 2-years each Congress person will get $10,000
Do you feel MISTREATED ?
Will they have your cost of drugs - doctor fees - local taxes - food, etc., decreased?
NO WAY.
Congress received a raise and has better health and retirement benefits than you or I.

· Why should they care about you?
· You never did anything about it in the past.
· You obviously are too stupid or don't care.
· Do you really think that Nancy, Harry, Chris , Charlie, Barnie, et al, care about you?

Send the message to these individuals --- “YOU'RE FIRED!”

In 2010 you will have a chance to get rid of the sitting Congress: up to 1/3 of the Senate and 100% of the House!

Make sure you're still mad in November 2010 and remind their replacements not to screw-up.

It is ok to forward this to your sphere of influence if you are finally tired of the abuse. Maybe it's time for Amendment 28 to the Constitution..

28th Amendment will be as follows:

"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States ."

Let's get this passed around, folks - these people in Washington have brought this upon themselves! It's time for retribution. Let's take back America ..

Salisbury Zoo

I went to the zoo today for the first time, not in my life, but in a long time.

The conditions some of those animals are in are deplorable....some of them looked so sad and lonely.

They don't look uncared for...just lonely...some of them are just all alone and have no company of other animals...

Some were fine, but when monkeys look sad and bored...something is seriously wrong...and there werer three of them.

The bear is just pathetic with just a (ish) 5 x 10 place to pace. Evidently the jaguar does nothing but sleep and some of those animals look like they would be better off put to sleep.

Hurt my feelings something awful...is there anything we can do ( yes I said we, as in a community...)

A Guy's Fairy Tale

Once upon a time, a Prince asked a beautiful Princess... “Will you marry me?”

The Princess said “NO!”

And the Prince lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles
and went fishing and hunting and played golf
and dated women half his age and drank beer and scotch
and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up
and farted whenever he wanted.

The End

Long Live Salisbury News

Hey, hey, Joe.

Good show in Annapolis!

In other news, is the city council whacked or what? Smith saying she doesn't care where money comes from as long as Church St. gets a community center? WTF? Shields voting on her landlord's veteran's project? Spending annex fees like drunken sailors? Man, I have missed a lot and didn't see anything on your blog so I'm in Hazeville, man. Just caught the last meeting show and some audio.

Thought I'd share a tidbit to amuse you: Daily Times gets awards for "watchdog journalism"? WTF? ROTFLMAO!

I haven't read the DT in prolly two months, but poking around tonight found this:

http://www.delmarvanow.com/article/20100409/NEWS01/4090301/0/NEWS17

Move fast or the link will expire. It's from like the 9th.

Where the heck is this great watchdog reporting on the WWTP? Or the city spending? Or signing contracts for shuff that isn't budgeted? Noooo, they'd rather print leaked whinings of the former police chief.

DT sucks. Gannett sucks. Long live SBYNews, baby, yeah!

WALK NAKED IN AMERICA DAY

Don't forget to mark your calendars.

As you may already know, it is a sin for Muslim males to see any woman other than his wife naked and if he does, he must commit suicide. So next Saturday at 1 PM Eastern Time, all American women are asked to walk out of their house completely naked to help weed out any neighborhood terrorists.

Circling your block for one hour is recommended for this anti-terrorist effort.

All patriotic men are to position themselves in lawn chairs in front of their houses to demonstrate their support for the women and to prove that they are not Muslim terrorist sympathizers. Since Islam also does not approve of alcohol, a cold 6-pack at your side is further proof of your patriotism.

The American government appreciates your efforts to root out terrorists and applauds your participation in this anti-terrorist activity.

God bless America !

P.S.. It is your patriotic duty to inform others. If you don't send to at least 1 person, you're a terrorist-sympathizing, lily-livered coward and are possibly aiding and abetting terrorists.

The lecture series begin in May and will be held once a month through October.

First Lady O’Malley is partnering with University of Maryland Extension’s Home and Garden Information Center and Master Gardeners to promote the “Grow It Eat It, campaign” which encourages Maryland families to improve health and save money by growing fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs using sustainable practices. The campaign hopes to encourage 1 million Marylanders to produce their own affordable, healthy food. More information on the campaign and the University of Maryland’s Master Gardener program can be found at www.growit.umd.edu.

Last year, Maryland became one of the first states, if not the first state in the nation, to have a backyard food garden at the Governor’s home. The vegetable garden sets a realistic example of what Maryland families can do in their own backyards.

The event will take place this SATURDAY, APRIL 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Government House in Annapolis. __________________________________________________________________________________

An Interesting Poem:

Write it in Sand or Stone!

TWO FRIENDS WERE WALKING
THROUGH THE DESERT .

DURING SOME POINT OF THE
JOURNEY, THEY HAD AN
ARGUMENT; AND ONE FRIEND
SLAPPED THE OTHER ONE
IN THE FACE.

THE ONE WHO GOT SLAPPED
WAS HURT, BUT WITHOUT
SAYING ANYTHING,
WROTE IN THE SAND ,

"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND
SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE ."

THEY KEPT ON WALKING,
UNTIL THEY FOUND AN OASIS,
WHERE THEY DECIDED
TO TAKE A BATH .

THE ONE WHO HAD BEEN
SLAPPED GOT STUCK IN THE
MIRE AND STARTED DROWNING,
BUT THE FRIEND SAVED HIM.

AFTER HE RECOVERED FROM
THE NEAR DROWNING,
HE WROTE ON A STONE:

"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND
SAVED MY LIFE."

THE FRIEND WHO HAD SLAPPED
AND SAVED HIS BEST FRIEND
ASKED HIM, "AFTER I HURT YOU,
YOU WROTE IN THE SAND AND NOW,
YOU WRITE ON A STONE, WHY?"

THE FRIEND REPLIED,
"WHEN SOMEONE HURTS US
WE SHOULD WRITE IT DOWN
IN SAND, WHERE WINDS OF
FORGIVENESS CAN ERASE IT AWAY.

BUT, WHEN SOMEONE DOES
SOMETHING GOOD FOR US,
WE MUST ENGRAVE IT IN STONE
WHERE NO WIND
CAN EVER ERASE IT."

LEARN TO WRITE
YOUR HURTS IN
THE SAND AND TO
CARVE YOUR
BENEFITS IN STONE.

THEY SAY IT TAKES A
MINUTE TO FIND A SPECIAL
PERSON,

AN HOUR TO
APPRECIATE THEM,

A DAY
TO LOVE THEM,

BUT THEN,

AN ENTIRE LIFE
TO FORGET THEM.

TAKE THE TIME TO LIVE!

DO NOT VALUE THE THINGS
YOU HAVE IN YOUR LIFE, BUT VALUE
WHO YOU HAVE IN YOUR LIFE!

Gaming Enforcement Unit Arrest Four Suspects In Casino Fraud Investigation

State Police Division Of Gaming Enforcement Unit Arrest Four Suspects In Casino Fraud Investigation

Location: Harrington Raceway, Harrington, Kent County, DE

Date of Occurrence: Friday April 9, 2010 to Saturday April 10, 2010

Suspects:

Tericka Grady, 33, of 5448 Sidbury Road, Castle Hayne, NC

Dreama Brown, 35, of 18525 US 421, Willard, NC

Mr. Carlos Gause, 35, of 280 Parkhill Ave., Staten Island, NY

Mr. Shariff Thompson, 30, of 394 Bristol Street, Brooklyn, NY

Resume:

The Delaware State Police Division of Gaming Enforcement opened an investigation on April 9th into fraudulent use of credit cards at the cashier cages. The casinos were made aware of a potential scam involving fraudulent credit cards used to obtain cash advances. A review of records at Harrington Raceway and Casino revealed two fraudulent transactions were made on April 2nd, 2010.

On Saturday April 10, 2010 at approximately 2:40 p.m., troopers assigned to the gaming unit received a phone call from Harrington Raceway and Casino reference to a female suspect, later identified as Ms. Tericka Grady, attempting to gain a cash advance in the amount of $1062.99 using a fraudulent credit card. The security staffs at Harrington Raceway and Casino were requested to detain the individual if possible for additional investigation based upon previous reports of suspicious transactions at the cashier cage involving use of credit cards.

Floor security contacted Ms. Grady at which time a male suspect later identified as Mr. Shariff Thompson, abruptly exited the casino in an attempt to evade security. Mr. Thompson entered a gold colored minivan displaying Florida registration and fled the parking lot. State police was advised of the description of the suspect vehicle and registration. Troopers were able to locate the vehicle and a pursuit ensued.

The mini van came to a stop in the area of Bowers Beach Road at which time a second male suspect later identified as Mr. Carlos Gause and Mr. Thompson fled on foot. Both were taken into custody. Further investigation revealed a second female suspect identified as Ms. Dreama Brown who remained in the vehicle and was also taken into custody following the pursuit.

All subjects were transported to Troop 3 near Camden. Troopers learned personal identification cards in conjunction with fraudulent credit cards obtained by the suspects involved. They were allegedly obtaining the credit cards from an unknown third party. Troopers were able to place the suspects in the Dover and Harrington area during the weekend and also the previous weekend (April 2-4). Between both weekends the females made multiple transactions at both Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway and Casino.

Consent to search the property located within the rental car was obtained. In total, $6,708.00 was located on Mr. Gause and $617.00 was located on Ms. Brown. All money was seized by the state police.

Warrants were completed on all four individuals, which were approved through Justice of Peace Court 7. The charges for each individual are as follows:

Ehrlich Hosts Small Business Roundtable on Tax Day

Candidate & entrepreneurs discuss need to lower tax burden and create jobs

Annapolis
- On the day when millions of Marylanders file their taxes, candidate for Governor Bob Ehrlich met with small business owners to discuss how lowering the tax burden in Maryland will help them grow and create jobs. Ehrlich also reiterated his promise to roll back the 20% increase in the State sales tax that the O’Malley Administration imposed in 2007.

Bob Ehrlich believes small businesses are the most important source of job creation in our economy. He sought the advice and experience of about a dozen Maryland business owners during a meeting Thursday at the Rockfish Bar & Grill in Annapolis. These business leaders expressed confidence that reducing taxes, reforming unemployment insurance, and cutting bureaucratic red tape will strengthen the economy and help small businesses grow.

“I believe it is entrepreneurs like you who generate jobs, opportunity, and economic growth in Maryland,” Ehrlich told the assembled entrepreneurs, and added “It is more than time to get government off the backs of the men and women who can lead our state back to high employment. I believe government should treat entrepreneurs as a source of new jobs – not a source of new tax revenue.”

Comments from the roundtable participants focused mostly on lowering the tax burden in Maryland, the need to better market Maryland businesses, and the debilitating impact of the State’s decision to expand unemployment insurance benefits to part-time workers.

Ehrlich pledged that the advice offered by the roundtable participants would help guide his economic recovery agenda if he is elected in November and invited each participant to be an informal economic advisor to his campaign.

Background: More than 3,000 small businesses in Maryland closed their doors last year alone. Approximately 230,000 Marylanders are currently looking for work and are unable to find it. The unemployment rate in Maryland has more than doubled since 2006. CNBC ranks Maryland 42nd out of 50 states in terms of the cost of doing business.

White House Press Corps Sued For Doing Obama's 'Bidding'

Lawsuit charges deliberate attempt to exclude media outlet

A lawsuit has been filed in Washington accusing the White House Correspondents' Association of doing the bidding of the Obama administration in trying to belittle, exclude and irreparably harm a leading Internet news outlet, WorldNetDaily, which has carried commentary critical of the president.

The dispute arose over WND's request – and payment – for three tables at the association's annual banquet in Washington, which has been described as being to the news industry what the Academy Awards are to Hollywood.

"It ... is the most prestigious event of the year in Washington, D.C. ... It thus enhances a news outlet's prestige to rent tables at and attend the event and is a must to maintain a news outlet's, such as WND's, reputation," the complaint explains.

Learn everything you need to know about today's media in "Stop the Presses!"
"News outlets who do not get sufficient access to the event are seen as 'lesser' and unimportant in the media world," it continues.

But the association then notified WND it would be able to use only three seats at this year's event, which is scheduled for May 1 and features entertainer Jay Leno as a speaker.

Fight Night Analysis and Predictions

The night we've all been waiting for is finally here!

Later today Fernando Guerrero (17-0, 14 KOs) will take on Michael "The Midnight Stalker" Walker (19-3, 12 KOs) in front of a crowd of 6,000+ rabid boxing fans. While that fight is correctly the main event, sensational Shawn Porter (13-0, 10 KOs) makes his fourth appearance in Salisbury and will fight in the co-feature. He'll be swapping leather with big talking and hard punching Raul Pinzon (17-4, 16 KOs). These two will both be shown on Showtime. The un-televised undercard boasts five more scheduled fights.

Alex Guerrero (3-0, 1 KO) will take on Jabir Abdul Basit (3-0-1, 3 KOs, 1 no contest). For Alex, Fernando's older brother, this is going to be a very difficult fight. The last time out Basit could only manage a draw against Clinton Hest(1-2-1, 1 KO). However, his three previous fights he ended each opponent's night early via knockout. After beating Rodricka Ray (2-4-1, 1 KO) in his first two fights by decision, Guerrero won his last fight by way of first round knockout felling Johnny Fields (0-1) in the disposed professional debut. Look for Alex Guerrero to lose a round, but pick up a solid 39-37 (3 rounds to 1) decision.

Mario Stansley (0-1) will likely open up the evening (the schedule hasn't been released other than the two televised fights) trying to right the ship after being knocked out in his professional debut. His opponent, who will be making his initial fight in the pros is Tahir Thomas. I'm not going to blow sunshine up your skirt, I don't know anything about these two fighters. But sometimes the unknown fighters actually provide the fight of the night. Don't get there late and miss any of the action.

Canadian Adonis Stevenson (13-0, 10 KOs) is a super middleweight on the move. He's already flattened Anthony Bonsante (32-11-3, 18 KOs), who you may remember from the television show "The Contender" and has knocked his last three opponents out. His adversary is Darnell Boone (16-15-2, 6 KOs). Boone is really a professional opponent. He is one of those blue collar guys that shows up on a moment's notice and will fight anyone, anywhere. In 2005 he knocked down current WBA Supermiddle weight champion Andre Ward (21-0, 13 KOs), but lost. Stevenson should win easily, but in 33 professional fights Boone has only been knocked out once and that was nearly 5 years ago. Stevenson by unanimous decision 78-74 (6 rounds to 2).

DC's Ty Barnett (16-1-1, 11 KOs) will be beating up on Broderick Antoine (10-8-1, 5 KOs). Barnett was knocked out in the first round on the undercard of the Purdue Stadium show. It was his first and only loss. The intrigue of this match will be to see how Barnett handles being back in the ring after that epic failure. He has the perfect opponent to ease back into action as Antoine has made a living playing king of the hill with boxers of questionable quality and dubious records. Barnett will win by second round knockout.

The Olympian Dominic Wade (5-0, 5 KOs) will return to Salisbury to knock out Robert Kliewer (10-9-2, 5 KOs). Kliewer has lost five of his last six, four of those losses coming by knockout. Wade will dominate and knock Kliewer out in the first round.

The first televised fight will be Shawn Porter (13-0, 10 KOs) and Raul Pinzon (17-4, 16 KOs). Pinzon actually said, "Porter is fast, but he can't punch". What film has he been watching? Porter's power is nearly as unquestionable as his speed. However, what Pinzon lacks in film watching skills, he more then makes up for with his own power. He began his career with twelve straight knockouts. His power is explosive, but his chin is questionable. He's been knocked out three times officially, with a fourth time later ruled a "no contest". I believe Porter's speed will be able to break Pinzon down over a number of rounds. I look for him to unleash a torrid body attack in the early rounds and catch his opponent against the ropes and take him out in the middle rounds. Shawn Porter by fifth round KO.

In the main event Fernando Guerrero (17-0, 14 KOs) will trade punches with Michael "The Midnight Stalker" Walker (19-3-2, 12 KOs). Walker said of the good people of Salisbury, "I want to shut the crowd up. I want to send them home crying." I believe him. He really does want that, but as we all know, we don't always get what we want.

Walker talks a big game and he is a good boxer when he is in the ring with club fighters of marginal talent, but the one time he has had an opportunity to fight someone on Guerrero's level he was routed. On May 2nd, of last year he took on Daniel Jacobs (19-0, 16 KOs). Jacobs is the middleweight prospect that many boxing writers and experts rank ahead of Fernando as the best prospect. On two of the judges' scorecards Walker didn't win a round, on the third he won just one round. It was a technical beat down. In Walker's last fight he lost to Derrick Findley (15-3, 9 KOs). Findley is a lot like Walker, he's twice fought top talent and lost decisively both times. Against Walker, Findley won every round but one on two of the scorecards. I simply do not see any way Michael Walker can win this. He's not particularly fast, he only carries a 50% KO rate, isn't very strong and doesn't have the boxing skills or jab to win a unanimous decision.

I know Fernando Guerrero will win this match, the only real question I have to answer is how. Walker has never been knocked out as a pro. In three of Guerrero's four Salisbury matches he has won by decision, away from Salisbury he has knocked out thirteen of fourteen! (let's see the other local media give you a stat like that!) So given Walker's durable chin and Guerrero penchant for giving people mercy in front of the hometown fans I'm picking Fernando Guerrero to win by unanimous decision 99- 91(9 rounds to 1).

Make sure you come out and support the brothers Guerrero as well as the rest of the boxers on the card. The greater support we give our fights, the more likely we'll be rewarded with more fights.

Showtime Press Release

(April 15, 2010) – Undefeated middleweight prospect and hometown favorite Fernando Guerrero weighed in at 160 pounds and Chicago’s Michael Walker tipped the scales at 161 during Thursday’s weigh in at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury, Md.

Guerrero (17-0, 14 KOs) will put his undefeated record on the line against Walker (19-3, 12 KOs) in a 10-round bout in the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation on Friday, April 16, live on SHOWTIME ® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury, Md.

Promising, unbeaten Shawn Porter (13-0, 10 KOs) of Cleveland , Ohio , measured 150 ½ pounds. Hard-hitting Colombian Raul Pinzon (17-4, 16 KOs ) did not make the contracted weight and will weigh in tomorrow at 9 a.m. ET. The two will square off in a junior middleweight eight-round co-feature fight on SHOWTIME.

The doubleheader is co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Prize Fight.

What the fighters had to say on Thursday:

FERNANDO GUERRERO:

“I train like I’m fighting for a world title every time. Walker is dangerous, but I can handle him.

“I’ve grown up as a fighter, I’m finding myself. I know I hit hard, but I no longer think I have to knock everybody out.

“It’s important for me to win, but I don’t need a KO.

“I had a great camp. Next year, 2011, is going to be my breakthrough year but I have to win all my fights in 2010 first.

“I’ve been knocked down but it taught me that when you get knocked down you get back up.”

MICHAEL WALKER:

“I’ve sparred with some southpaws so I’m ready.

“I can’t wait to get in there. I’m more ready than I’ve been in a while. I’ve been in the gym and I want to surprise the fans.

“I want to shut the crowd up. I want to send them (EDITOR'S NOTE: them = YOU Delmarva!) home crying."

“After this win I’m going to go on a roll. I’ve put the work in the gym and now I’m ready.”

“I’m going to do whatever it takes to win this fight.”

SHAWN PORTER:

“My last fight being 10 rounds was a huge step up for me. I hadn’t gone 10 rounds before and it was nice to know that I can go the distance, even though I was 60 percent of what I could have been.

“I look to show some of the things we’ve improved on since my last fight.

“We’ve got a game plan for tomorrow and we need to stick to it.

“I feel good getting down to 147. I look more ripped and a little smaller in the mirror. I think I’ll have an edge at that weight.

“The camp was tremendous. I couldn’t be happier.

“We’d like to fight for a world title at 147, that’s the plan.”

RAUL PINZON:

“I came in late, but I’m about 95 percent. I’m ready. I was already in the gym training for another fight.

“Porter is fast, but he can’t punch. I’m looking for a KO. Out of 17 fights I’ve had 16 KOs , so I hope to get another one tomorrow night.

“My conditioning is good for this fight, I’m in good shape.

“In my losses I hadn’t had much notice, but I had to take the fights. I’m going to surprise him. I’m not just an opponent. I’m ready for war.”

Nick Charles will call the action from ringside with Steve Farhood and former Light Heavyweight Champion of the World Antonio Tarver serving as expert analysts.
