Impaired Boater Arrested; Maryland Gears Up for Operation Dry Water

An overdue boater, who triggered an extensive search overnight Sunday by federal, state and local agencies, was located and charged with drunken operation, Maryland Natural Resources Police reported.

The incident in Calvert County is a reminder of the dangers of driving a boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as officers gear up for the Operation Dry Water enforcement campaign this coming weekend.

Jonathan Mark Wagner, 26 of Lusby left the Navy Recreation Center on the Patuxent River at midday on Saturday. He told family he wanted to make sure his 19-foot boat was in good running order.

When he had not returned that night, his family went to the launching ramp and found his vehicle and boat trailer still parked.

Benghazi Report: Coming Soon

Legendary baseball commentator Vin Scully, the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, took some time out of a baseball game this week to go off on socialism. It's a welcome departure from the left-wing doggerel that usually pollutes the airwaves. Scully:

"Socialism failing to work as it always does, this time in Venezuela. You talk about giving everybody something for free, and all of a sudden there's no food to eat."

Scully continued

"And who do you think is the richest person in Venezuela? The DAUGHTER of Hugo Chavez. Hello?!"

Maryland Man Sentenced to More Than Eight Years in Prison for Scheme to Obtain More Than $7 Million in Fraudulent Tax Refunds

Caused 14 False Tax Returns to be Filed in Just Six Months Claiming $7,753,940 in Refunds

A College Park, Maryland, man was sentenced to 97 months in prison today following his conviction in November 2015 by a federal jury on one count of conspiring to defraud the United States and six counts of filing false income tax returns, announced Acting Assistant Attorney General Caroline D. Ciraolo of the Justice Department’s Tax Division, U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein of the District of Maryland and Special Agent in Charge Thomas Jankowski of the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation’s (IRS-CI) Washington, D.C. Field Office.

According to the evidence presented at trial, between March and June 2009, Charles W. Parker Jr., 49, recruited clients for co-conspirator Penny Jones, 65, formerly of Rigby, Idaho. Jones, a tax return preparer in Idaho, prepared tax returns falsely reporting the amount of taxes withheld and purportedly paid to the IRS. Parker collected financial information from clients and provided it to Jones for the preparation of the false tax returns. Parker paid Jones to prepare false tax returns for Parker and others. Parker mailed the false tax returns to the IRS for the years 2005 to 2008, claiming large tax refunds to which the clients were not entitled. Parker caused the filing of 14 false tax returns in just a six month period that fraudulently claimed $7,753,940 in tax refunds.

In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Roger W. Titus for the District of Maryland ordered Parker to serve three years of supervised release and pay restitution to the IRS in the amount of $2,007,568. In 2013, Jones was sentenced to 144 months in prison for her role in the scheme.

Acting Assistant Attorney General Ciraolo and U.S. Attorney Rosenstein thanked special agents of IRS-CI, who investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah Jo Bressack of the District of Maryland and Trial Attorney Erin Pulice of the Tax Division, who prosecuted the case.

Additional information about the Tax Division’s enforcement efforts can be found on the division’s website.

Three Ways the Federal Government's Sliding Left on Gay Rights

Federal agencies that deal with healthcare have been slowly tilting leftward on controversial social questions of how LGBT Americans should be treated, easing limits on blood donations from gay men and expanding coverage for sex-reassignment surgery.

Blood donations from gay men

Until December, gay men were banned entirely from donating blood if they had sex with another man in their lifetimes. But under the FDA's new policy, gay men must abstain from sex with other men for just one year.

Reassignment surgery for transgender vets

Meanwhile, the VA is considering following Medicare's lead by lifting its comprehensive ban on reassignment surgery for veterans who want a sex change. The agency has allowed certain standardized care for transgender veterans since 2011, but excluded surgeries.

Obamacare providers can't refuse care to transgender people

In general, conservatives aren't pleased with federal agencies funding hormone therapy or reassignment surgery for transgender people. But what they're really irked by are directives from the Obama administration about how schools and healthcare providers must treat transgender people.

Maryland Food Bank recieves donated land to use for farming fresh produce

The Maryland Food Bank will receive about 3.5 acres of land from NRG, a Fortune 200 Company and a leading power company in the U.S., at its plant in Dorcester County to support the food bank’s Farm to Food Bank program.

The land will be harvested and managed by Black Gold Farms. Black Gold Farms is already a partner with the Maryland Food Bank in the program.

The program creates a network of farms across Maryland to get fresh, local produce to hungry Marylanders. Nearly one in eight Maryland residents face food insecurity each year, according to the Maryland Food Bank.
Once harvested, the Maryland Food Bank distributes produce to over 1,200 soup kitchens, schools, food pantries and shelters.

What Happened When a Muslim Told the FBI About the Orlando Terrorist

Donald Trump believes American Muslims are hiding something. “They know what’s going on. They know that [Omar Mateen] was bad,” he said after the Orlando massacre. “They have to cooperate with law enforcement and turn in the people who they know are bad. … But you know what? They didn’t turn them in. And you know what? We had death and destruction.”

This is a common idea in the United States. It’s also a lie. First, Muslims like me can’t see into the hearts of other worshipers. (Do you know the hidden depths of everyone in your community?) Second, he’s also wrong that we don’t speak up when we’re able.

I know this firsthand: I was the one who told the FBI about Omar Mateen.

Dad posts hilarious pics while 'babysitting' daughter's doll

A Kansas man chronicled “babysitting” his nine-year-old daughter’s doll in a series of hilarious photos posted on Facebook last week.

Trent McCain posted photos of his unique babysitting experience on the Facebook page for his family's business on June 15.

In the photos, McCain explains that his daughter, Joselyn, was in a bind last week and needed a last minute babysitter for her doll “Abbie.”

McCain agreed to watch Abbie and decided to post pictures of their eventful day.

“I didn't want Joselyn thinking I threw Abbie in the sleeper and forgot about her,” McCain wrote. “She has been sending instructions via FB all day.”

OPPD: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH Crime Bulletin #60

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH Crime Bulletin #60

To all Our Neighborhood Watch Personnel:

The Summer Season Begins:

The summer season brings new challenges in the area of public safety. There will be a dramatic increase in both bicycle and pedestrian traffic on our Parkway and the side streets. Drivers must increase their vigilance when operating their vehicles. Last year, there were 108 traffic accidents investigated by our Police Department in Ocean Pines. Please drive carefully and within our posted speed limits.

** Internet Scams:

A 96 year old resident was scammed out of $40,000 in two seperate internet transactions. The scammer alleged that the victim had won over $950,000 and needed money from the victim to complete the transaction. Most of these scammers live overseas and are beyond the range of prosecution. In this case, police are actively pursuing an investigation, as the suspects live in the United States.

** Home Improvement Scams:

When you have home improvement people in your home, do you limit their access and monitor their actions? An Ocean Pines resident contracted with a local home improvement company for home repairs. The resident gave the key to his home to the contractor and left. Police later responded to a $40,000 theft report at that home. After an intensive investigation, police later arrested three suspects in this case. It could have been prevented.

Never allow home improvement personnel unsupervised in your home. LIMIT their access to only the areas of improvement and never leave valuables, such as jewelry, in plain view.

Six Diseases Return To US as Migration Advocates Celebrate 'World Refugee Day'

Six diseases that were recently near eradication are making a comeback in the United States, as the taxpayer funded refugee resettlement industry launches a propaganda blitz about the so-called World Refugee Day this Monday.

The returning diseases are;

1. Tuberculosis
2. Measles
3. Whooping Cough
4. Mumps
5. Scarlet Fever
6. Bubonic Plague

The near eradication of these diseases in the United States during the twentieth century was a remarkable accomplishment of American civilization. Until recently, most Americans believed these diseases were gone from our shores for good.

But a politicized public health system, and a rise in the subsidized migration into the United States, however, have combined to reverse a century of progress.

PREVIOUSLY ARRESTED ILLEGAL ALIEN ARSONIST KILLED FIVE HOMELESS PEOPLE

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A homeless man charged with setting a fire that killed five people at a vacant Los Angeles building was in the country illegally, and was arrested for drug possession days before the blaze.

Johnny Sanchez, 21, remains jailed without bail onfive counts of murder. Prosecutors haven’t decided whether to seek the death penalty.

They allege Sanchez set the fire Monday after having a dispute with other people squatting at a former acupuncture clinic in the Westlake area near downtown.

Three men and two women died in the fire, which collapsed the roof of the two-story building and left the bodies buried in debris.

Sanchez, a Honduran citizen, was arrested in 2012 for illegally entering California, but he was released a week later after agents determined he had no criminal history or previous immigration violations, the Los Angeles Times reported.

He was ordered to report regularly to immigration authorities, but for unknown reasons deportation proceedings never began, Virginia Kice, spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told the Times.

Subject: GOP Pushing Legislation 'Written for the Muslim Brotherhood'

Daniel Horowitz at Conservative Review argues that Republican lawmakers “are planning to promote the Muslim Brotherhood’s agenda” as a response to the Orlando terror attack.

From Conservative Review:

You can’t make this stuff up. Democrats respond to Islamic terrorist attacks by blaming inanimate objects. Now Republicans are planning to promote the Muslim Brotherhood’s agenda. Which response is worse?

There are many legislative options at the disposal of Republicans who control both chambers of the legislature. They could start by placing a pause on refugees as Obama brings in over 100 per day. I just checked the State Department database and found a jump in arrivals from Syria of 238 just from June 13 to June 14. Overall, 1,320 Syrian refugees have been admitted since June 1 – every one of them a Muslim. The American people overwhelmingly favor a pause instead of a refugee surge while their elected officials can properly audit the short-term and long-term effects of mass migration from the most volatile parts of the Islamic world.

Hah! Liberal Reporter Tries to Buy AR15 – GETS DENIED FOR VIOLENT PAST

Neil Steinberg, writer for the Chicago Sun Times, saw how easy it was for other journalists to waltz into a gun shop and walk out with a child slaughtering, full auto, death machine, exactly like the one that the Navy Marine Rangers use (leftist talk there), so he decided to try it Des Plaines, Illinois. Only this didn’t quite go according to plan.

In addition to a mandatory 24 hour waiting period in Illinois, it turns out Mr. Steinberg has a troubled past of alcohol abuse and domestic violence, so he was denied the sale.

But before he got that far, he was first faced with the same hurdles that other potential gun buyers are faced with; contradictory and unclear gun laws. As he wrote:

Secret Service: Prepared To Deal With Hillary's 'Domestic Violence'

According to The New York Post, Gary J. Byrne’s upcoming book — “Crisis of Character: A White House Secret Service Officer Discloses his Firsthand Experience with Hillary, Bill, and How They Operate” — claims President Clinton was having an affair with Monica Lewinsky he was also having one with former Vice President Walter Mondale’s daughter, Eleanor Mondale, who passed away in 2011 due to brain cancer.

Marc Kilmer, Wicomico County Council

Today the county council voted to provide subsidized tuition to some Wor-Wic students. I joined Joe Holloway in voting against this proposal. I did make a successful motion to amend the resolution to limit this program to students in families that have a household income below $75,000. If this program was going to pass (and the votes were there for it to do so), I thought it was best to ensure that it was more limited than originally proposed and that it was actually targeted at those who may struggle to pay for Wor-Wic. Even with this change, I still do not think this is the best use of our tax dollars.

Young Girl Molested in Target Store

TARGET STORES NOW A MAGNET FOR MOLESTERS.

In the latest sexual predator case, police in Fairfax County, Virginia are going by surveillance video in their search for a man who inappropriately touched an eleven-year-old girl in a Target store.

The incident occurred at the Target store located at 2985 District Avenue in Fairfax, Virginia. The child was shopping with her father Saturday, June 18 around 5 p.m. After they returned home, she told her father that a strange man had touched her buttocks in the store. The father immediately called the police.

The store’s security video caught the incident, showing a white male in his 20’s who was wearing a gray shirt and dark shorts. Outdoor video showed the suspect leaving the parking lot in a burgundy Ford Mustang.

Subject: How the Democrats Are Disarming Us

According to a Gallup poll taken the week after the atrocity in Orlando, only 29 percent of Democrats thought this was an Islamic terror attack. Fully 60 percent of all Democrats attributed the attack to “domestic gun violence.” Moreover, 42 percent of independents felt the same way. Only 44 percent attributed it to the Islamic holy war that has been declared on America and the West.

How is this possible? During the massacre, the terrorist himself took pains to post messagesdeclaring that his acts were acts of Islamic terror against America. “Now taste the Islamic state vengeance,” one message said. Another warned, “in the next few days you will see attacks from the Islamic state in the USA.” Moreover, in the days following the attack, a dossier of his behavior and associations going back more than fifteen years showed that he saw himself as a warrior for Islam and a jihadist in the making. The FBI had interviewed him twice — once in 2013 after co-workers reported that he made “inflammatory” comments to them about radical Islamic propaganda and the following year because of ties with a fellow Muslim who traveled to Syria to become a suicide bomber.

How then could 60 percent of Democrats and 42 percent of independents think that the killings in Orlando had nothing to do with radical Islam or Islamic terror? How could they think it was simply a matter of domestic gun violence similar to other mass shootings by deranged individuals whose motives had nothing to do with Islam or the Islamic state? The reason they could be so misled is because the president himself said it had nothing to do with Islam and warned that thinking it did was a form of bigotry that could hurt America — indeed would be a betrayal of America’s true self.

The Lawyers Who Could Take Down Hillary Clinton’s Campaign

To Team Clinton, they’re ‘everything wrong with our politics.’ In conservative circles, they’re heroes—and maybe the best positioned to dig up dirt that could poison Hillary 2016.

In February, a federal judge took the highly unusual step of ruling that State Department officials and aides to Hillary Clinton should be questioned under oath about her use of a private email server, a controversy that has dogged the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee for more than a year.

In comments from the bench, a visibly frustrated Judge Emmet Sullivan complained about the fragmentary way that new revelations about Clinton’s email use have come to light—largely through press reports and leaks and her shifting explanations for why she set up the server in her New York home rather than use an official “.gov” account when she was secretary of state.

“This is a constant drip… That’s what we’re having here, you know, and it needs to stop,” Sullivan said. He ruled that Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group that had brought a lawsuit seeking answers about Clinton’s email server, could question six officials and top Clinton aides about why the email system was set up in the first place and how it was used. Transcripts of those interviews must be made public.

“OPERATION BROKEN HEART” YIELDS 46 ARRESTS IN MARYLAND

Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Participates in Nationwide Initiative to Target Child Sex Offenders

Columbia, MD) Maryland’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force yields 46 arrests in Maryland, while participating in “Operation Broken Heart,” a nationwide, two-month initiative targeting offenders of child sexual exploitation.

The Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) was one of 61 task forces included in “Operation Broken Heart III”, a two-month initiative. Members from the Maryland ICAC worked tirelessly throughout April and May, initiating 198 investigations. Investigators executed 86 search warrants with 46 arrests. There were also three public outreach sessions, which reached over 700 people.

The coordinated effort by law enforcement represents more than 3,000 federal, state and local law enforcement agencies with the purpose of arresting child predators, along with internet safety education and outreach. During the Operation, investigators educated over 2,300 individuals during 37 educational programs.

The Maryland ICAC Task Force is comprised of police agencies statewide. They concentrated on those offenders who possess, manufacture, and distribute child pornography and who engage in online enticement of children for sexual purposes. They also targeted crimes including child prostitution, and violators traveling abroad to sexually abuse foreign children.

The Task Force’s primary mission continues to be to protect children from computer-facilitated sexual exploitation. This goal is achieved by cooperation between law enforcement agencies and prosecutors as they combine resources to combat these crimes. Additionally, the Task Force also provides community awareness campaigns helping to prevent the spread of these crimes through education.

72 Killed Resisting Gun Confiscation In Boston

It could never happen here, right?

Boston –
National Guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault weapons were ambushed by elements of a Para-military extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.

Speaking after the clash, the Massachusetts Governor declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement.

The Governor blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices. The governor, who described the group’s organizers as “criminals,” issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government’s efforts to secure law and order.

The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed wide-spread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons.

The Governor issued a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting in early this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms.

Muslim migrant boys accused of assaulting Idaho girl, 5

A 5-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a group of boys at an apartment complex in Twin Falls, Idaho, and some local residents are charging the police and city officials with covering up the fact that the boys are from Muslim immigrant families.

Twin Falls has been one of more than a dozen pockets of resistance across the U.S. to refugees arriving from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and other Muslim nations.

A protest rally took place in the city last fall and residents have been seeking more transparency from the College of Southern Idaho, which is resettling the refugees in the area.

The alleged incident occurred on June 2 at Fawnbrook Apartments in Twin Falls. The complex houses at least one immigrant family from a Muslim country in Africa.

WND talked to residents of Fawnbrook who sent photographs of women in burqas on the grounds at different times of day.

Hillary Clinton's long list of lies

A list of her ‘accomplishments’ reveals a suspect pattern

Many of us remember the classic line from the “Seinfeld” show, that “it’s not a lie if you believe it.” Applying that theme to the evolution of Hillary Rodham, then Hillary Rodham Clinton, and now just plain Hillary Clinton, here are the notable accomplishments of her “public service” career:

• Flunked the D.C. Bar Exam.

• Was removed from her House Judiciary Committee staffer job because of incompetence and lying.

• The Whitewater scandal.

Cardin, Colleagues Commemorate World Refugee Day, Introduce Resolution to Reaffirm U.S. Commitment to Refugees

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, introduced a resolution Monday recognizing June 20thas World Refugee Day and reaffirming the commitment of the United States Senate to protect and assist millions of refugees and other forcibly uprooted persons worldwide.

“The international community must get serious about protecting the most vulnerable refugees – women and children. Women are facing ferocious threats in conflicts across the globe where rape and sexual assault are being used as weapons of war, and as vulnerable refugees they continue to be targets of gender-based violence,” Senator Cardin said. “Moreover, children now make up half of all refugees worldwide. We must do more to protect them from becoming casualties or being maimed as a result of violence, from sexual exploitation and abuse, from recruitment as child soldiers, and from being forced into early marriage.”

The World Refugee Day resolution acknowledges the courage, strength, and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence, and persecution. It notes that, today, there are more than 65.3 million displaced people, including 21.3 million refugees, of which more than half are children. Specifically, the resolution highlights the commitment of the United States to promote safety, health, and well-being of the millions of refugees, including the education of refugee children and displaced persons who flee war, persecution, and torture in search of peace, hope, and freedom.

Joining Senator Cardin as original co-sponsors are U.S. Senators Christopher Murphy (D-Conn.), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.), Christopher Coons (D-Del.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), and Jack Reed (D-R.I.).

JUST IN: 3 Arrested With Multiple Loaded Guns, Knives, Body Armor at Holland Tunnel on Way to NYC

Three people were arrested with multiple loaded guns, rifles and ballistic vests at the Holland Tunnel Tuesday when police stopped them for driving with a cracked windshield, authorities tell NBC 4 New York.

The guns seized included long-range weapons as well as handguns. A camouflage helmet with what appeared to be night goggles was also recovered.

Two senior law enforcement officials say the three suspects are so-called "gun enthusiasts" and have no nexus to terror. There is no known threat.

The investigation is ongoing.

Three Syrian “Refugees” Rape Little Girl at Knifepoint

Three Syrian refugees reportedly raped a little girl at knifepoint in Idaho before urinating on her body, an incident that prompted furious residents to accuse Twin Falls city council members of covering up the assault.

The sexual assault allegedly took place on June 2, but has received virtually no media attention aside from one vague KMVT report.

However, residents have been circulating what really happened on social media, with the Creeping Sharia blog reporting that the victim was a young girl who was born premature and is “less developed for her age”.

The perpetrators were three Syrian youths aged 8, 10 and 13, with the oldest boy directing the assault.

The little girl was playing outside Fawnbrook apartment buildings when the boys put a knife to her throat and forced her inside a laundry unit. She was then stripped naked, raped and urinated on. The 13-year-old reportedly told the younger boys to urinate on her because they were incapable of ejaculating.

The victim’s grandmother found the victim and then called the girl’s mother, who called the police. The police took 2 and a half hours to arrive but were unable to take any action due to the “language barrier”.

Subject: Activists plan ‘world’s largest fart-in’ during Hillary’s DNC speech

Far-left activists aren’t going away quietly — or with a pleasant aroma.

Cheri Honkala, head of Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign, is organizing the world’s largest ‘fart-in’ to be held on July 28 at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center during Hillary Clinton’s anticipated Democratic nomination acceptance speech.

“We will be holding a massive bean supper for Bernie Sanders delegates on American Street in my Kensington neighborhood on the afternoon of July 28,” Honkala says, TruthDig reports.

“We are setting up a Clintonville there, modeled on the Hoovervilles of the 1930s where the poor and unemployed built shanty towns. The Sanders delegates, their bellies full of beans, will be able to return to the Wells Fargo Center and greet the rhetorical flatulence of Hillary Clinton with the real thing.”

Activists have invited Bernie Sanders to join their bean supper, which Honkala has dubbed “Beans for Hillary.”

Md. Gun Sales Increase As Congress Debate New Laws

WASHINGTON (WJZ/AP)– A divided Senate blocked rival election-year plans to curb guns Monday, eight days after the horror of Orlando’s mass shooting intensified pressure on lawmakers to act but knotted them in gridlock anyway — even over restricting firearms for terrorists.

In largely party-line votes, senators rejected one proposal from each side to keep extremists from acquiring guns and a second shoring up the government’s system of required background checks for many firearms purchases.

The renewed debate over gun control sends more customers to gun shops.

It’s happening in Maryland and around the country where trying to restrict access to guns creates a rush to buy them.

Illegal Alien Attempts to Assassinate Trump

It appears that the violence against the Trump campaign is now escalating to epic proportions. At a Trump rally in Las Vegas, a British man tried his best to take out the GOP nominee. As the Daily Mail notes:

A British man arrested at a Donald Trump rally in Las Vegas told authorities he tried to grab a police officer's gun and wanted to shoot the billionaire Republican presidential candidate.

Protester Michael Steven Sandford, who appeared in court on Monday, even went to a gun range on Friday so he could learn how to fire a pistol.

The 20-year-old was arrested at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino on Saturday after going for a metro police officer's gun.

Sandford, who is originally from Surrey and was carrying a UK driver's licence, had been living illegally for 18 months in New Jersey after his visa expired and had been sleeping in his car.

A secret service report said Sandford told officers he had been planning the Vegas assassination for around 12 months and believed he would die in the process.

He also had tickets for a rally in Phoenix later that day in case the gun grab failed and told officers if Trump 'were on the street tomorrow, he would try this again'.

There is no word yet on Sandford's motivations, but we will update this story as it develops.

AG Lynch Won't Say How Many Americans Are on Terrorist Watch List

It was a simple question that Attorney General Loretta Lynch would not answer on Sunday:

"How many Americans are on the terrorist watch list?" ABC's Jonathan Karl asked Lynch on "This Week."

"You know, we don't provide those exact numbers," Lynch responded.

"Can you give me a range? I mean, what are we talking about here?" Karl followed up.

"Well, as I say, we don't provide those exact numbers," Lynch responded.

Lynch supports an amendment sponsored by Diane Feinstein that would bar gun sales to people who end up on the government's secretive terror watch list. Even the late Sen. Ted Kennedy mistakenly ended up on that list years ago.

(CNSNews.com) - "Every American needs to have a security plan, because terrorists have targeted Americans, the head of the National Rifle Association told CBS's "Face the Nation" on Sunday.

"We need to be able to protect ourselves, because they're coming. And they're going for vulnerable spots, and this country needs to realize it," said Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's executive vice president and CEO.

Host John Dickerson asked LaPierre, "Should everybody get an automatic or a semiautomatic, or should we lift limits against automatic weapons?"

"I think that we're talking about the fact law-abiding people need to be able to own firearms to protect themselves," LaPierre said.

"I think we need national carry reciprocity. I think every school needs a protection plan with a either police officer or certified armed security. And we need to look at all our vulnerabilities...because they're coming and they're going to try to kill us, and we need to be prepared."

"And this president, by diverting the attention to gun control movement, that's not going to solve the problem. They couldn't care less."

Luis Gutierrez Paid His Wife Over $300,000 From Campaign Funds

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D., Ill.) has paid his wife and daughters hundreds of thousands of dollars from his campaign’s coffer since 2010, according to campaign finance data.

Gutierrez, who was first elected to Congress in 1993, brought his wife, Soraida Gutierrez, onto his campaign’s payroll six years ago to act as his office manager, treasurer, and fundraiser.

Soraida Gutierrez was a registered lobbyist in the state of Illinois from 2003 to 2009 before joining Gutierrez for Congress. She has since raked in more than $300,000 for her work on behalf of the committee while being the top recipient of campaign cash in three cycles since stepping into her role.

The first time Soraida acted in an official capacity for the campaign, in 2010, she pulled in over $44,000 and was the top recipient of cash from the Gutierrez campaign that year.

Soraida then pocketed over $93,000 in 2012, making her the biggest beneficiary of campaign funds for the second election cycle in a row. The committee disbursed $383,848 in 2012, so Soraida’s payments constituted roughly 25 percent of all campaign expenditures.

Soraida was yet again the top beneficiary of cash from Gutierrez for Congress during the 2014 election cycle, receiving $110,000. Herman Andrew, a vendor, was the second highest-paid individual at $24,000.

Soraida has pocketed $65,000 during the 2016 election cycle to date. She has been paid a total of $312,000 from the Gutierrez for Congress campaign committee since 2010.

Gutierrez’s wife is not the only member of his family to benefit from his campaign. His two daughters have also received thousands in payments over the years.

The family of Tavon Talley filed the lawsuit against Valor Security Services and Mydatt Services in Baltimore City Circuit Court in February. A judge has denied a motion by the defendants to transfer the case to Anne Arundel Circuit Court and allowed the dispute to move forward to trial.

As of Friday, a trial date had yet to be scheduled, according to online court records.

Reached by phone Friday afternoon, Thomas P. Bernier, the Baltimore attorney representing Valor Security and Mydatt Services, declined to comment citing the ongoing litigation.

U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin issues statement on Senate gun safety votes

WASHINGTON —The Senate voted on four gun control proposals Monday, all of which were rejected.

U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., issued a statement regarding the Senate vote.

"The movie 'Groundhog Day' eventually ends when its main character finally takes a different path after taking a look at his life and the way he has mistreated others around him. Following the mass shooting in Orlando at the Pulse nightclub, Congress is locked in its own version of 'Groundhog Day,' with the Republican Leadership not yet ready to break the cycle of callous disregard for the victims of gun violence.

"After more than 15 hours of a filibuster that I participated in last week with many of my colleagues, the Republican Leadership in the Senate finally has allowed votes on gun control measures, like the commonsense idea that if someone is deemed a big enough threat that they cannot board an airplane that they should not be permitted to buy a gun, and the simple notion that background check should be done for every gun purchase regardless of location. It should not matter whether you buy a gun at your local gun store, at a gun show, or on the internet – you should have to pass a background check, so we can make sure that guns are kept out of the hands of people that should never have one. We need to finally enact real bipartisan reforms that will make the American public safer and reduce the risks that come from allowing such easy access to dangerous weapons primarily designed for the battlefield and not civilian ownership. More talk and more prayers will not save lives; only action and real changes in our federal laws can.

"I am hopeful that bipartisan negotiations in the Senate will move us closer to breaking the negative cycle that has trapped Congress and the American people in a loop of shock and condolences, and inaction. Congress should act to ban assault weapons that have no legitimate civilian use, and should ban the sale of high-capacity magazines, which only increase the level of carnage in our mass shootings. The time for action is now, and we cannot wait until the next mass shooting. Enough is enough."

Jimmy Carter: World At “Turning Point,” Must Commit to Peace

ATLANTA (AP) — Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter said Monday that the world is at a “turning point in history” and governments must choose policies of peace and human rights over war and human suffering.

Carter’s remarks opened a forum of human rights workers hosted by The Carter Center in Atlanta, attended by more than 60 global activists.

Carter, 91, said military actions, human rights violations and restrictions on freedom have inspired the spread of violent extremist groups. He said even the peace-focused mission of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Humans Rights adopted by the UN in 1948 “have been abandoned by the world.”

“What is needed now, more than ever, is leadership that steers us away from fear and fosters greater confidence in the inherent goodness and ingenuity of humanity,” Carter said.

Florida Congressional Candidate Announces AR-15 Giveaway

Greg Evers said Monday that he is giving away an AR-15, because terrorist incidents are on the rise. The announcement comes barely a week after a shooting at a gay nightclub killed 49 people in Orlando, which is about five hours from the 1st Congressional District.

“My heart goes out to the families in Orlando. By the same token I am not offering political rhetoric but results,” Evers said.

A Tale of Two Nations: How Democrats View the Islamic Terror Attack

Republicans and Democrats have starkly different interpretations of what the recent mass shooting at an Orlando nightclub represents. While 79% of Republicans view it primarily as an act of Islamic terrorism, the majority of Democrats, 60%, see it as an act of domestic gun violence. Given Republicans' more lopsided views, Americans as a whole tilt toward describing it as a terrorist act.

The results are based on a June 14-15 Gallup poll, conducted days after a Muslim U.S. citizen, Omar Mateen, perpetrated the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history at an Orlando nightclub. Mateen had been listed on the federal government's terrorism watch list in 2013 and 2014, but was later removed. While both President Barack Obama and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton described the incident as an act of terror, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump went further, tying the act to radical Islam.

Democrats' interpretation of the Orlando shooting may be influenced by Democratic leaders' calls for stricter gun laws in recent days. This was exemplified by a Democratic-led filibuster on the Senate floor Wednesday and Thursday, which ended after Republican leaders agreed to take up proposals on background checks and steps to prevent terrorists from obtaining guns.

Trump's statements on the event may be contributing to Republicans' views of the Orlando incident as an act of Islamic terrorism, but Republicans' tendency to define it as terrorism may also stem from theirgreater concern about terrorism in general.
