Joe,
I'm sure water fees are a nominal cost for irrigating the lawn at the Wicomico youth and civic center, particularly after the recent deluges.
They could do a little better in these tight times to check if it's working right. Every morning on my commute, I see the same errant lawn sprinkler unit GUSHING water over the sidewalk and cascading down the street to the nearest storm drain.
To see it makes you wonder. Alas I don't have a camera to shoot and send. Just cruise by any morning at 7 AM or so to see for yourself.

Geez dude, get a life....IT'S A WELL, NOT CITY WATER! In case you haven't noticed, well water tends to be free-if you have been getting a bill for your well water then quite frankly, YOU'RE AN IDIOT. I'm getting sick of everybody trying to complain about something just to complain! Why don't YOU go up to the Civic Center and ask then to fix it if it bothers you so damn much?
Uh...anon 8:34 am, wells do run dry you know. Wasting water is wasting water, no matter where the water comes from.
8:34,
Is the electricity to pump the water out of the well also free? And doesn't this action lower the water table in the area as the wasted water has to go to the Bay, evaporate, rain, and then filter down 100 feet into the ground in order to get back to the well?
Waste is waste, and ignorance is, well 8:34.
well water is free? rofl @ 8:34, everyone does get a bill for it....it's on the electric bill, from the well pump running. And in this case guess who pays for it? You do 8:34...by way of taxes and patron fees to the civic center....still ok with the waste now IDIOT?
Call Puddle Duck Irrigation, they'll make that system efficient in no time.
Granny and orsonswells,
This post wasn't asking how much water is being wasted or how much electric is being wasted or if the water table is getting low...he was asking who is pay the water fees. Water fees to me is the bill I get every quarter from the City, not electric or the "cost" of a low water table. I answered his ignorance and I was clarifing that the Civic Center was not paying the City Water Fees to run the irrigation-you two just took it to a new ridiculous level, but I can entertain that too...
Apparently you know absolutely nothing about pumps and irrigation...the more back pressure you have on a pump, the more energy (aka electric) it takes to run it. So essentially, that leak or broken irrigation head relieves some of that back pressure on the pump and does, in fact, LOWER the energy/electric cost to run the pump. In addition, the Civic Center sits on some of the most porous, well-drained land in all of Salisbury-that well will NEVER run dry!
There's some knowledge so that perhaps you won't be so IGNORANT yourselves!
9:19 your still an idiot. Quit wasting water, period!!!!!
Thank you to the person who sees the malfunctioning sprinkler every morning for bringing it to light. After reading the complaint, I called the civic center. They didn't know a sprinkler needed adjusting,or fixing and after saying thanks for the heads up, said someone would check into it.
None of us is all-seeing, or all-knowing. We can help each other and help ourselves by calling things that need attention to those responsible. I bet most of the time it's appreciated...
Now what's the name of that motel where all the hookers hang out? Maybe a lot of people need to keep calling the powers that be in Salisbury to get that mess cleaned out.
I've always said, "You can't fix something you're not aware of."
Welcome to Salisbury News!
I have to include that the regeneration surface area for wells is not very often directly over the top of the well. For examlpe the aquifer my well in Wicomico County draws from has a regeneration point where it begins in Anne Arundel County. I could go in to terms further illustrating the ignorance of comment such as it's a never ending supply or what have you but, this is a comment not a post.
Update: The broken sprinkler head at the Civic Center has been fixed. We appreciated the phone call and addressed the problem immediatly. Thanks again for letting us know!

Orson,my thoughts exactly!
It's great not having a metered water bill but what some people dont get is that when you have a private well, you also have an electric pump.I had a small water leak last summer and before it was resolved I had astronomical electric bills and a worn out pump. Its not cheap to waste water, even with a well.
